Daily Gut: Does MSNBC Want a Race War?
by Greg GutfeldSo on Tuesday, we did a segment on this black dude who showed up in Arizona where Barack Obama was speaking – with an assault weapon and a pistol strapped to his shoulder. We all pretty much agreed, that despite his actions being legal, it was still idiotic. There are many things in life that are legal, but totally nuts if done at the wrong time. For example, when I shower I’m completely naked – no law against that. However, try showing up nude at a Jonas Brothers lunch box signing – that’s another story (I blame it on the Ambien).
But this leads me to MSNBC, where on Tuesday Contessa Brewer – someone I’d like to see in a shower – filed a report about health care protesters showing up armed. In it, she used tape of that same black man carrying an assault rifle and said “there are questions about whether this has racial overtones….white people showing up with guns.”
Of course, like I said – the guy was black. But you never would have known. Because MSNBC has strategically edited the tape, so the race of the armed dude wasn’t revealed. You just assumed he was white, thanks to Contessa.
Take a look at the tape from the MSNBC segment:
And here’s tape of the actual armed dude:
How awesome is that? Anyway, later, pop culture analyst Toure added that there is “anger about a black president being president,” again ignoring that the armed man was black.
So why deny this salient fact?
Because it didn’t fit the story MSNBC wanted to tell: that if you disagree with Obama, you must be a white crazy person with guns.
Even if you’re black!
Look – there were millions of people angry at Bush – and the media never seemed to worry if their own vicious anti-Bush rhetoric would foment hate. Worse, the idea that every angry person is a potential assassin just makes it harder to deal with the real threats. I also resent that my opinion, enraged or not, can be dismissed as racism. Fact is I’ve been against Obama’s policies back when they were Hilary’s policies, and even before that, when they were Ted Kennedy’s and Jimmy Carter’s. Wrongheadedness knows no color, which is why my shorty robes only come in Topaz.
TONIGHT, an awesome super-duper lineup of awesome super duper people!

i cannot tell you how often i've wondered what color your shorty robes were.
now that i know you favor only one color, i have to ask — isn't that racist?
Greg we mustn’t let facts get in the way of a “good” story.
They should move all the MSNBC anchors over to Comedy Central.
As Fred2 reminded me a couple of days ago. This is like when the mainstream media were reporting that the Beltway Snipers were White Supremacists. It turn out to be Two Black Guys OH…OH. can't have that. The only problem was it was True. Yeah unbiased reporting. That I'll be the Day.
And they made surprisingly little of the fact that one of them was named John Allen MOHAMMED.
And they made surprisingly little of the fact that one of the black guys in question was named John Allen MUHAMMAD.
Popular culture is all about image. We are flooded with images day in and day out that are supposed to represent what is acceptable and what is not. In large part they are meant to induce a longing to consume those things that are associated with positive images. MTV is a perfect example of this. We are presented with an image of what is 'in' and an entire consumer infrastructure is built around this. Brewer is using the same technique only now she and those like her are trying to engineer an image of what it is to be an outcast in society and truth be damned if she is wholly inacurrate. I often have wondered why those on the left HATE people that don't think like they do in an ideological sense. I have come to the conclusion that people like Brewer with the help of the educational system have literally brainwashed those simple minds that find it more convenient to buy into the images set before us rather than to actually apply the critical thinking we were supposed to be learning in school.

You are the issue – not the substance of your argument.
Wow.
Even by MSNBC "standards" this is, well, actually not merely "shoddy". "Shoddy" suggests carelesness and indifference to quality. This is not only a deliberate fabrication, or "lie" as some people still say, but a dangerous and vicious lie at that.
Save this one for the next time some hopey-changey Obamanaut tries telling you the MSM in general, and MSNBC in particular, isn't at all biased.
Hey Liberal Media: You can quit the race-baiting now. We are on to you. You look really stupid.
On second thought… never mind – go ahead and keep it up.
MSNBC is shamelessly partisan, a veritable state run media oraganization. Now that Obama is being criticized the race card is being played with disgusting regularity that it only seems to marginalize real racism. You know, pergatory could very well be having to watch MSNBC endlessly.
I think that everyone pretty much took for granted that the Left (in particular "news" organizations like MNBC) would be pulling this card out of the deck as soon as there was sufficient opposition to any Obama administration policy. CNN did a piece last week about the "growing danger" of possible anti-Obama terrorism noting that the Southern Poverty Law Center had recorded an "alarming" rise in applications for gun permits. (Yeah – That's the underground army I want to be part of – One that fills out all the paperwork and goes through a five-day waiting period before starting the revolution.) All of this is just the usual progressive fantasy that their opponenets are dark Morlock-like beings who hate the Left simply because they ae so pure and noble. In short, they are evil for it's own sake. Well as Jean-Francoise Revel rhetorically asked, "Why is it that the dark night of facism is always descending in the U.S. but always landing in Europe?"
Jake …dammit, it’s the religion of peace.
Better yet, move John Stewart to MSNBC
I'm urging you to stop posting this crap
This one may actually cost them. It's jumped from libertarian and conservative blogs to Politico, and MSNBC has already offered a lame justification. I don't think it's going away.
The result is that they will in the future do a better job hiding their bias.
BTW, I guess I'm a traitor

Unfortunately, I think the only real result will be that they will do a better job hiding their bias in the future.
Does MSNBC Want a Race War?
The last thing the Media and the Democrats want is to be discovered to have been the real racist for all these years. If war will hide the truth they are all for it.
Sounds more like full on Hell to me.
The Left lost no time in launching a boycott over Glenn Beck's calling Obama a racist. Would this be the right time for the Right to boycott the advertisers on MSNBC? I think a boycott over someone's political opinions is wrong as it flies in the face of the First Amendment but a boycott over overt distortion of the news from a supposed news agency is a different matter.
As much as I don't like Obama, a coup d'état would be the death of this republic!
So apparently if you hand a law abiding black man a gun he's now a "white racist"?
newspeak makes the baby Jesus cry (and my head hurt)
> Does MSNBC Want a Race War?
Was that a rhetorical question? If it bleeds, it leads. If it hates, it rates.
Nice try, troll.
BTW, Where do you flag your posts now that flag@whitehouse.gov has closed up shop?
BTW2, Are you Richard Warman, Chief Narc of the Canadian Human Rights Commission?
I disagree. Jefferson wrote of its need when necessary.
The man now occupying the White House and his cronies have created racial divisiveness the likes of which I've never seen, and it keeps getting worse. I think Glenn Beck hit the nail squarely on the head, and Martin Luther King must surely be rolling at warp speed.
"You furnish the pictures. I'll furnish the war."
-William Randolph Hearst, 1898
The GOP paid this black guy. Listen to him, he sounds like a Black guy who hate black people!!!
*ucking Tom!
I'm with you. I guess that makes me a traitor too; my 24 years military service is right down the drain.
I think it's past time that the site admins block this guy. This is dangerous stuff.
WE URGE Our Armed Forces to rise up and take over the government. unseat and Jail the Kenyan Usurper and call for new elections after having executed all ACORN and Black Panther goons.
WE DEMAND OUR ARMED FORCES UNSEAT THE KENYAN USURPER IMMEDIATELY
Obama was born in Mombasa, Kenya, Obama is not a natural born citizen as required by the Constitution:
a.- Both Parents US Citizens (his father was a Kenyan national)
b.- Born in Us Soil (Obama was born in Mombasa,Kenya)
IMPEACH KENYAN NOW –ASK QUESTIONS LATER!!

Mark Hinkley?? Haaaaaahhahahahaha!!
Wot Leewwwzerzzzz…..
Life's just sooooooo much easier to understand when people fit in neat little boxes. Republicans hate blacks, Mormons hate gays, Jews eat Palestinian kids…
I think it's probably true that the already simmering anger and resentment among large segments of the black population (ref: Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton, et al), has been exacerbated by a new sense of empowerment.
"My President is Black". I've seen the T-shirts.
That's in spite of anything Obama has actually done. Now his buddy Gates has a new lecture series, "Racial Equality in the Age of Obama", or some crap like that.
I won't be going. At least, not until they make it mandatory…
This ignorant *lut is an Obama Groupie. I'm sure all 38 of her viewers enjoyed her little tirade! No one believes those bed wetting goofballs on PMSNBC anyway.
Liberals are not born, they are excreted!
Richard Warman . Ha! Great call.
Dash Troll, you're not one of us. Go away.
And by one of us I mean a sane human being
Dude, I hear they’ve had some real success with “Lithium.”
The man now occupying the White House and his cronies have created racial divisiveness the likes of which I've never seen, and it keeps getting worse. I think Glenn Beck hit the nail squarely on the head, and Martin Luther King must surely be rolling at warp speed.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————-
I totally agree with you, Pamela!
Glenn Beck rocks! And I don't believe he has a racist bone in his body.
Come on now, Comedy Central has more journalistic integrity than to accept MSNBC.
Tom? What a bloody racist you are. "White people can hold wildly different views, but black people MUST think a certain way or they're not really black at all!"
John Oates? I can go for that.
This is like when Brewer and MSNBC edited Letterman's joke about Palin to make it look less offensive. (Here is a link to the video of John Ziegler calling them out on it and completely obliterating her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McvC7n6-buo )
Also apropos in that clip is Ziegler calling them out on their blatant agenda again, saying "You portray Republicans as old white men and wonder why people think of them as old white men?"
Worse, though, is how factious the Democratic party become, far from being "post-partisan" and "post-racial". He continually plays groups of Americans against each other. The media of course plays along since the bigwigs, like all leftists, conceive of every society as having classes.
Before he left office, George Washington left us with a word about those who seek to divide Americans, saying that factionalism would. . .
". . .put in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party;—often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community;—and, according to the alternate triumphs of different parties, to make the public administration the mirror of the ill-concerted and incongruous projects of faction, rather than the organ of consistent and wholesome plans digested by common councils, and modified by mutual interests.—However combinations or associations of the above descriptions may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the Power of the People, and to usurp for themselves the reins of Government; destroying afterwards the very engines, which have lifted them to unjust dominion."
Michael Vick paid his debt.
Fortunately, our military is far too professional than to listen to you. As are the overwhelming majority of Americans, whether or not they support Obama's policies.
Fortunately, our military is far too professional to listen to you. As are the overwhelming majority of Americans, whether or not they support Obama's policies.
And if Lithium doesn't work, Dasharky, there's still the old fallback of lobotomies.
Oh, you've already had one?
Heh. Thumbs up from me.
Not necessarily. Look at Honduras. Our military is made up of patriotic American citizens, not socialist stormtroopers.
"with a magazine in the AR and the bolt closed."
Was the weapon loaded?
Also, my understanding (may be incorrect, I've read this but not confirmed) is that he was a member of a pro-Second Amendment group using the opportunity for a publicity stunt, and the group contacted the local police department ahead of time to make sure there were no problems. And that there was a police liaison witht he group at the protest.
That's a good point!
Laws permitting open carry notwithstanding, if that dude had been white, light beige or even pink, he'd have been swapping his teeth for pieces of pavement with some big Secret Service people fitting him for some fancy bracelets.
Very nice indeed!
He's to funny for MSNBC.
I have contacted the sponsors of MSNBC and told them I would not buy their products or services and encourage other to do the same.
MSNBC should apologize.
What statements? In the posted videos, you can only hear him in the third one, where all he says is that the health bill amounts to theft in his eyes.
Still, I think your husband's points are very valid.
agreed
Well kids we have reached that stage of the "Political Correctness Hierarchy" where it is now going to be labeled racism for a white person to disagree with a person of color, any color.
Sadly this stage also includes releasing convicted terrorists to go home and die with dignity in the presence of their loved ones as they did today in Scotland. Perfect! I can hardly wait to see what's next.
When was the last good story on MSNBC?
Not since Leo LaPorte hosted "the site".
Yeah, so?
That has nothing to do with the point I made.
Vick went to prison for his actions. What will MSNBC's consequences be for comparable behavior?
Although this is really a waste of time since you are obviously a TROLL. But, what the hey I have a few minutes.
"Guest", your comments are about as ignorant as MSNBC's story. Now, I did not call you stupid as I do not know you but it is obvious you are lacking a lot of information and really need to get out once in awhile.
"he sounds like a Black guy who hate black people!!! " You mean kind of like MSNBC sounds like white people that hate white people?
Not true. You can offend white people all you want.
Sadly that's a given MK but we're Wising up pushing back.
I am so confused. I don't know which of my neighbors to spread rumors about or to hate. Being a reporter is hard y'all.
For Contessa Brewer, journalistic integrity is a foreign concept. Any reputable news agency would have fired her long ago……oh it's MSNBC.
Some of Contessa's greatest moments:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwcE0_80dwY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkxsodBhwkc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLMgGe6bPTY
I really wonder how many times they think they throw that card. Really. This, the Obama-Joker poster, tea parties, anyone keeping count?
But I'm sure a retraction will be coming soon……
If the facts don't fit MAKE UP A STORY! Heck, the threat of racial violence is important enough to ignore facts!!! It's a news show. And we (MSNBC) make up the news!!!
MSNBC has just shown us that integrity is a lost quality in "agenda journalism". And who would have believed that there is more truth printed in the National Enquirer than in most liberal newspapers and magazines? Truth is always the first casualty of totalitarianism.
And don't forget that Contessa Brewer told John Ziegler that she has no problem being called "slutty!"
Contessa is dumber than a sack of hammers. What makes her even more stupid is her sincere manner of taking herself so seriously. "Look, Ma, I'm a journalist!"
Let me see…."You are the issue – not the substance of your argument." Hmmmm. Yep. I think that qualifies as one of the stupider of stupid statements I've ever heard. It's right up there with "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father"
Goob.
I'm sure they were just worried that it would be racist to point out that the man with the AR-15 wasn't white. /sarc
Unbelievable, did you see they deliberately shot the footage to make sure the guys color was not shown? And then they cut to a protester from days early who was white. "These people are sick!
I really really hate this software, Hate it, Hate it, Hate it, Hate it, Hate it, Hate it, Hate it, Hate it, Hate it, Hate it,
There is something very odd about this country since the 1960's. There seems to be a moving line that continues to shift regarding whats right and whats wrong, whats acceptable and what is not, what is the the norm and what is not. All you have to do to get this line moved is just do it. The next day it becomes the new…usually after the initial shock and protest..then business as usual with no one held accountable. Does anyone REALLY realize just how dangerous, unethical, un-American this is for a major news network to knowingly crop this image and make a false story. Welcome to Pravda..comrades.
From the Dan Rather school of journalism.
And one for you! Thanks.
Two Possible Reasons for This:
(1) MSNBC folks believed that Conservatives/Americans/Bloggers were too stupid to check out and compare footage and figure this out.
(2) Someone in the MSNBC editing room has a huge grudge against Contessa Brewer and (maybe) MSNBC.
Of course, it is also possible that Brewer said that not knowing the footage just shown was black .
agreed, but the anchors at MSNBC aren't really that funny (though I know Kieth Oberman thinks he's very witty inside his own head)
WHy boycott a network no one watches anyway?
MSNBC is a joke—Let the "Uncle Tom" comments begin…
Funny all this terror of right wing loons wanting off to the Prez. Seems to me the last three assassination attempts (two on one guy!!) were against Republican dudes (Ford & Reagan), and the shooters (or would-be shooters) were either counter-culture kooks (Squeaky) or random, unaffiliated whack jobs (Moore and Hinckley.) Furthermore, I've already read that the overwhelming majority of assassinations in U.S. history (at least of the Presidential variety) were perpetrated by odd-lot socialist/anarchist/communist left wing losers. Angry white men, apparently, have other things to do: oppress and exploit minorities and women, conquer and seize third world countries, rip out consumers, et. al. Leave us to our dirty work, Contessa, and fight the real power — schizos and welfare moms!
"if it hates, it rates."
Well, fortunately, based on MSNBC's ratings, that isn't entirely true.
Okay, Carlos let me explain how this works. The issuse should be the substance of ones argument and Greg's argument works very very well: He asorts that MSNBC has opted to lie to the people and try to dismiss the protesters as motivated by race and this only shows how far they are willing to go. They will dismiss you, they will belittle you and they will do so all in the hopes of beatting you without having to actually debate you.
If you cant see past the person to so the argument than you are on the losing end.
You forgot that Christians are Terrorists.
Damn those nuns with guns!
In the language of your ancestors oh Troll of the North!

"But this leads me to MSNBC, where on Tuesday Contessa Brewer – someone I’d like to see in a shower – filed a report … "
Come on Greg. All the intelligent, beautiful and lovely women in the world and this skank would be on your wish list for shower viewing. Sorry man. I have some standards — and though, admittedly, some might question them at times — Ms Brewer would never measure up.
The only thing worse than a "dirty" journalist is a dirty politician. You can wash either for days and they'd still be dirty. No thanks.
Man with assault rifle–political ringer, perhaps…anyone taking bets?
Contessa Brewer continues to vie for top propagandist bragging rights. Goebbels would be so proud. We need a contest!
First, everyone knows that blacks with guns are the real problem in this country. They kill each other and anyone else who get in their way. That black man in that story was there probably as an SEIU plant to intimidate the white people there. NBC wanted to make white people the problem. That black man needed a gun to defend himself against all those white racists without guns. It backfired so they decided to ignor his race and in fact make him white.
Your expression of love for your mom and dad warms my heart.
Do…do you even know what sarcasm means? Sigh.
So, S.C. you and I can both, ( wink ) say its true, but put our forefingers on our lips and say:
'sssh' don't tell MSNBC.
That's what I just said. If you are against Obama's plan and can explain why – they won't listen to your argument. Instead, they paint you as somebody like the guy with the gun. To be honest, it made more sense a few hours ago than it does now.
Military takeover of the government, huh? That's not how we do things here.
The committed and radical leftists of the 60s realized the same thing Hitler did when his attempt to foment revolution from the "outside" failed: it is a very difficult thing to do especially in a society with stable institutions/systems. They, just as Hitler did, realized that success meant working "within" those institutions/systems and then using them against the society they detest to bring the changes and power they desired.
The shift you describe is, in my opinion, not an accident; it has been deliberate and methodical and well financed. ACORN is a perfect example of using society's institutions/systems against the society they detest.
Re: "Worse, the idea that every angry person is a potential assassin just makes it harder to deal with the real threats."
A guy carrying a freaking cannon on his back isn't an 'angry person'. He is a 'real threat'.
Also, the incendiary title of this column is a laugh. 'Race War'?? W T F? Calm yourself.
You're right tho… the newsbabe in question is a looker.
Fox has a large number of highly attractive, beautiful, feminine women who are also savvy, smart and logical.
MSNBC has Rachel Maddow. It's what they call counter programming in the TV business..
I think they have moved far beyond hiding their bias.
It's not on here, but the other night on Red Eye they showed a longer clip where the guy was being interviewed and they asked him if he carried the AR often. 'Oh yeah, everywhere.' Everywhere? Really? 'Yeah, I even take it in the shower with me.' He said this completely deadpan. Maybe it's just me, but I have a feeling he was there to mock the protesters, not contribute. I wasn't trying to characterize the group as a whole, just this individual. I mean, really, even in an open carry state, who carries an AR 'everywhere,' or even often? It just seems suspicious to me.
They didn't pay him enough, he didn't pull the trigger.
I live in near Phoenix and saw this protest first hand. I don't agree with Chris (that's his name) bringing an AR15 to the protest, but it is his right.
I just have one question for everyone. What was the Founding Fathers intent when they wrote the 2nd amendment?
