by Greg GutfeldSpeaking truth to power was supposed to be heroic – like yelling at your parents over their lapses in recycling.
But then something funny happened: people started speaking truth to power to people who speak truth to power. And now the man who once inspired, starts to perspire. The king of cool begins to lose his. And the side that normally champions freedom of speech, is asking America to pipe down.
Check out our nation’s high school paper, USA Today, where House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer called the town hall protesters un-American. How odd that in a different context, with different protesters, these disruptions would be seen as brave.
But it’s not brave at all, according to the media. That’s because, for once, the media is not on the protesting side. Instead, the media is the “power” that’s being spoken to – and that confuses them. And so they mock.
Look, the protesters are ripe for mockery because they’re ripe in general. They’re old. And you know that, in today’s youth obsessed world, as long as protestors are young and hot, they’re awesome. VH1’s “Lords of the Revolution” series devotes one night to the Black Panthers – a group that trafficked in murderous hate. But they were young, black and adorable. Of course, who can forget the pointless WTO protests in Seattle? Hollywood made it into a dreadful movie called “Battle in Seattle” – making every protester juicy enough to sleep with. Which, as you know, is pure fiction (most resembled Squeaky Fromme in her prime).
Don’t expect the same treatment for the White Haired from Walgreens. Using a profoundly convoluted plotline last night, “Law and Order” somehow linked the benign tea party protests to the Baader Meinhof faction – a violent Pro-communist group from Germany. It’s gross, but it’s not surprising. After all, you have senators accusing citizens of bullying and deception, and a President sounding less like a community organizer, and more like a Union boss.
It’s enough to make me want to hurl my fibercon through a window.

It isn't funny. It's a kind of systemic inversion and perversion of America happening before our eyes. Nothing is what it was, or what it seems anymore. Madness is in the air and so is the faint odor of a burning social fabric. The educated and elite are now actual enemies of the people. They don't even bother hiding their contempt. Our notion of the individual, our collective metaphoric identity with Capra's John Doe and scores of other brave underdogs which flowed through our common culture for generations is dying if not dead. Massive public anxiety and restiveness is breaking down civic health and trust. Where once we joked about boneheaded and self-serving politicians now we gasp about certifiably seditious ones. Try as I may I can't see a way out save through violence. This leftist movement is now secured in too many holds of power, too full of itself, to ever allow itself to slip back to "loyal opposition." A revolution is coming.

Great commentary. I wondered if I was the only person who caught that tea party reference last night. My husband was ready to turn off the television. Yeah, tea party protesters are exactly like terrorists murdering well known capitalists and blowing stuff up hoping to spark a revolution — to the liberal mind anyway.
I also liked how USAToday trumped up the oneline sentence about UnAmerican, and ran it is an imflammatory headline. Dinosaur watch of the death of print media.

I, too, loved the USA Today article Pelosi and Hoyer co-wrote, calling protesters "Un-American." It showed just how out of touch they willing are considering they put their names on the column.
I actually laughed out loud (while reading in a restaurant) when I saw the statement on why healthcare reform is so important…."[Healthcare] drives the economy." Healthcare drives the economy?!?!? ALL CONGRESSPEOPLE SHOULD BE FORCED TO TAKE ECONOMICS 101.
Healthcare has been and always will be a drag on the economy. That is why it is so important to make as efficient and fraud-free as possible. It is the cost for living on a physical, real planet.
I suppose in Nancy's upside-down bizarro reality the real economic wealth drivers are healthcare, attorneys, lawmakers and accountants. While industrialists, inventors, innovators, and capitalists are simply shifting money from one person to the other.
For years, I – like many of you – have wondered how some of these people get elected term after term after term. Between demonizing non-organized protesters asking (sometimes yelling, yes) difficult questions at open town halls and treating retired people like idiots, I'm beginning to sense that many of these goons won't be re-elected. I've noticed a whole-lotta Democrats attending these events, just as there were lots of Democrats at the Tea Party protest I attended in Oklahoma City. Are the time a'changin?

When I read the "piece" (re: "piece of poop", "piece of excrement", "piece of …", well, you get the picture) in the USSR Today, I couldn't help but think about one person. This individual (a female) popped in my head like a rabid "whack-a-mole" (and me without my hammer!). Who did I automatically go to, mentally speaking, when Nancy and Steny's bird cage liner assaulted my senses? None other than Imelda Marcos.
Remember her? She of 5000 pairs of shoes? She was the wife of the Ferdinand Marcos, former president of the Philippines and a general douche bag (forgive my reference….I did not intend to offend douche bags).
Mrs. Marcos and her hubby came to mind was because (and I'm about to date myself) they were well known in the 80s for their TOTAL CLUELESSNESS. The ninny was spending thousands and hundreds of thousands on footwear when a large number of her own people went barefoot. And the real kicker was she actually thought she was beloved by her people. Sigh.
Now, I'm not saying that we are turning into a 3rd World country (yet) but the knuckleheads on the Hill and throughout the Beltway and in the media have the same mentality as the Marcos clowns; "We rule over you, therefore we are superior to you."
New luxury jets. Demonizing fellow Americans for speaking their minds. Spending our money like it came out of a Milton Bradley box.
These idiots honestly think that WE are the problem and that they know what is better for us, the poor, unwashed masses.

Law & Order's blatant left-wing bias eventually turned me off the show.
It's very bizarre because it began as a very center-right show, back in the Michael Moriarty days. But over time it drifted, with the biggest break being that horrible blonde assistant DA.
But old-school L&O has nothing on the gutter garbage that is SVU. Nothing but a liberal lecture every single week. And it's hilarious how they manage to bring completely unrelated nonsense into a show that's supposedly about sex crimes – one episode had them 'finding justice' for an Abu Ghraib prisoner. Another had them 'sticking it to the corporations' over Katrina.
It's to the point where you can't watch anything anymore. People misunderstand me when I complain: I don't want to hear nothing but right-wing talking points repeated any more than I want to hear left-wing talking points repeated. I want balance, or better off just shut up about politics. Cop shows used to be cop shows. I caught that line too. And in the spirit of that episode, it got me to thinking … capitalists don't use terror. They don't strap bombs to themselves, or leave them in a red sports car outside a union hall. Actually, the only reference to any kind of capitalist terrorist is Ragnar Danneskjold in Atlas Shrugged, and he ain't real (yet).

One thing I learned from watching lefty protestors at Walter Reed Army Medical Center be counterprotested by the right: Protestors hate being protested. Turnabout is not fair play in their book. They reacted with rage, exasperation, dirty tricks, demands the police arrest their political enemies, threats, etc. They were completely flummoxed when their tactics were turned on them.
It's no surprise that the Left reacts with such unhinged fury when they are sharply questioned and protested in public. Their self-righteousness and arrogance does them in. They don't like sharing public forums or having to defend their programs. Deep down, the Democrats don't like democracy and its obnoxious companion, free speech. What they really want in their black fascist hearts is to rule by diktat.

I used to chuckle at the "speaking truth to power" mantra. I mean where's the risk? Theeeeeeen they asked folks to report fishy conversations and emails. Then there was an actual duo of politicians telling folks like me that it is plain un-American to speak out (as opposed to the lie the same two manufactured about Conservatives calling war protesters un-american).
I still think the phrase is bunk, but it suddenly carries more weight and makes me think… Do I want to be the next Joe the Plumber?

Things got better when Fred Thompson was on the show. One episode concerned an immigrant whose son had been killed while serving in Iraq. Some anti-war punk got in the fathers face and said his son got what was coming to him. The father killed him. The case ends with the father being found not guilty. Earlier in the episode Fred Thompson's character says he knows the father will be found not guilty. At the end of the show Sam Waterson asks him how he knew this. Because Thompson replies the ones who dodged active duty also dodge jury duty. But alas the show and it's spinoffs have all gone off the liberal cliff and I stopped watching years ago.
It's funny to watch liberals be completely flummoxed by the current protests aimed at them. For the past 40 they've seen themselves as the rebels going against the "Man". Now when confronted by their own tactics they have no idea how to react so they lash out at the people protesting. It's also funny to call them on their own behavior for the past 8 years, I wonder if the Speaker will kindly show me her op-ed denouncing the anti-war protesters as un-American? What would happen if Pelosi and Hoyer were trying to regulate Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites and made these comments about people who use their services. Riots. That is the goal of Congress and the Whitehouse. To cause Riots. No other real explanation. Luckily we have the wisdom of folks a little more experienced going to these town hall meetings. More Wisdom. The Wisdom the Health Care bill wants to kill off.

I will be on the lookout for it now, with disdain and disgust… as a child, I was a witness (5 blocks away, up the hill, with a perfect view from my bedroom window in the late afternoon) to the Baader-Meinhof attacks on Campbell Barracks in Heidelberg, GER. Two men my father worked with were killed by their car bombs. I terrifyingly felt the explosions to my core and saw the bodies and debris fly in the air with the mushrooms from the bombs . It has left a lifelong impression on this 50 year old girl… one that made me realize from a very young age what fighting for freedom from tyranny was about. I was a naive 12 year old until that day, and my innocent life changed forever. I suffered nightmares for years after that (that Nazis or some nefarious terrorists were coming to our houses to take us away and kill us), even after we moved back to the United States. For the writers of L&O to make some loose assertion that tea party protestors (myself being one) are like-minded to the evil of Baader and Meinhof and their followers makes me furious. On top of it all, I am a stage IV breast cancer survivor/patient who is on disability and made the terrible decision 2 years ago to drop my private health insurance and opt into Medicare when it became available to me. I sit on the couch many nights sobbing because I cannot opt back into private coverage, and I am terrified by the 500billion in Medicare cuts the Ojoker promises to make to pay for stage one on his march to his and Barfey Frank's desired rationed single payer plan. If I lived in the UK, I would be dead by now. My treatments are the same advanced/targeted ones that have been denied for late stage breast cancer in the UK. I am one of the most expensive patients to treat, and I am reasonably certain that the Medicare cuts will make my treatments, scans, tumor markers, etc harder to get, with more restrictions on how much and how often we can monitor me and keep my treatment individualized. I a currently a thriving patient, but I know that I need to move to get certain affairs in order now, as I can't depend on the same level of care and treatment that I had with private insurance, or even have had up until now on Medicare (though more rationed than on private coverage).
I applaud you Greg, and Big Hollywood, and I can't wait to see you and Ann Coulter tonight.
This is the heatening thing for me about all of this. A LOT of Democrats are showing up for these events and they find common ground with us. Many still thinking Dems are finally seeing the cr$pola that passes as congresscritters and they don't like it. Bouncing the creep reid out of office would be the real determiner. The icing would be the slaying of the wicked witch by the bay. That would be a true marvel.
Pelosi and Hoyer might be in secure districts but there are enough Congressmen who can be voted out of office so that people like Miz Nan and Master Steny no longer have a national forum. Lorie, I quit watching L&O (all permutations) a year ago. I got tired of the plotlines twisting the criminals to suit a PC agenda. "Ripped from the headlines" started to mean that if a gang of hispanics or blacks attacked a caucasian male, L&O changed things to make it a Neo-Nazi white gang attacking a gay person, or a black guy for the crime of dating a white girl. L&O's favorite criminal, though, is the Christian. Anytime they can make a Christian the guilty party, they do it. Their second favorite criminal is the corporate CEO-type.
Do yourself a favor and just don't bother with Law and Order anymore.

I think we need to have a method of holding a referendum on some federal legislation. Say, if the proposed spending for said legislation will cost over $750M (as estimated by the CBO) and/or if it will affect over 50% of the population. We cannot trust politicians to do what is right by the people any longer. They are too busy promoting their own self-interests and those of special-interest groups.

One word: Gerrymandering.
Many of these people have cherry-picked their constituents, and their districts look like squiggly worms meandering all over the map. As long as the neighborhoods or areas stay about the same demographically, those people get elected time after time, easily. It's very difficult to get them out.
This is partly why it is so vitally important NOT to let the Census get politicized, as Obama wants it to be. To paraphrase a movie title "There will be fraud". The census determines where the district lines are and how many representatives each state gets and what districts get the most clout. Imagine what Obama can do with a little fraud working in his (and the democrat's) favor!
I thought that effect was from the Botox , which wears off after awhile, seeping in to her brain. I hear you. I also quit watching. The final straw for me was an SVU where a woman goes into a pharmacy demanding the "morning after pill". She has been raped. The pharmacist (a woman), wants to see a Dr's prescription, and asks if the woman has SEEN a doctor. The woman wanting the pill gets angry and starts yelling. She then physically assults the pharmacist. The SVU people come in to take the raped woman away, completely sympathetic to her, and when the pharmacist tells them SHE was the one who was assaulted and will be pressing charges, Olivia says snarkily "Don't press your luck!"
That was it for me! No more L&O.
Having had some forensics experience, rule 1 for a rape victim is, DON'T do anything after a rape but call the police. Don't change clothes, bedding, shower, bathe, anything. Get a rape exam at a hospital. Preserve the evidence for investigators. And the pharmacist was right to ask after the victim's well-being by inquiring if she HAD seen a doctor. She got assaulted for her efforts. The cops painted the pharmacist as a pro-life zealot by being disinterested in her assault and probably felt she deserved it.

Shutting down town hall meetings, instead holding tele-conference meetings (getting several constituents on the phone to listen to them answer preselected questions- is no different than running an ad).
Still No direct interface, no forcing debate this leaves us where we were before the summer break.
We now know they are personal cowards as well as being liars (surprise) many have squirmed away from their duty to allow us a forum.
They are successfully cutting off avenues of contact, forcing us to the streets .We now have to protest in front of their office buildings (not knowing if they are even inside).
Paying bullies to harass and intimidate the people expressing true beliefs.
The bitterness they feel because they have lost the opportunity to come home and preen before adoring constituents, will only make them happier to sign the bill to get even and fix us.

Oh, you are getting hit by the "session timeout" as well? I think it is, what, 10 minutes at times. Intense Debate knows they are overloaded, and the shorter timeout reduces the "open sessions" they have to keep track of. It sometimes seems variable, late at night with low traffic it is somewhat more forgiving.
Try typing the reply in a simple text editor like Notepad (M$), then reloading the page, then paste over the reply and post.
It is getting hellish over at breitbart.com. When ID is really acting up and doing the timestamp thing, it can take ten minutes on dial-up just to load a dang article, with well over a hundred timestamp copies to a single ten reply thread.
