Daily Gut: The Death of Awareness
by Greg GutfeldIt used to be that the most important job in the world was to “raise awareness.” Everyday we were told how important it was to do it for issues like AIDS, global warming, and indoor plumbing. But just as raising awareness had become fulltime jobs for millions of people bearing clipboards and acne, in some very important arenas the crusade is now being undermined. Destroyed, even.
Look at the issues that will potentially devastate your bank account. There, “raising awareness” no longer matters. It happened first with the stimulus bill. It was far more important to push that mess through than it was to actually read it. Nationalized health care? Beyond knowing that we need it right now – what else is there? And what of this cap and trade muck? It’s way too dry – too bad there aren’t any Cliffs Notes.
The truth is – if you raise awareness about all this stuff, people realize it sucks. Hence, the folks pushing for this crap realize it’s better to cloud awareness until you’re left with nothing but noise masquerading as bumper stickers.
To incorrectly paraphrase a famous public service campaign – it’s the “less you know,” that really works.
And this is really why the modern progressive needs Obama so badly. With his endless charisma and hypnotic charm, Obama represents their only – and perhaps last – opportunity to sell the un-sellable, and remake the United States to fit their Utopian nightmare. It’s actually a testament to how destructive these ideas are: that even someone as gorgeous as Obama can’t even unload this crap.
Tonight we’ve got in studio: comedian Jesse Joyce, Andrew Breitbart and S.E. Cupp!

The SOCIALIST are taking over….
CAP AND TRADE=DEATH OF CAPITALISM
Raising awareness is a way for people with otherwise worthless lives to try and look useful. Hence, look at all the celebrities involved in them.

Well it's becoming painfully appearent to most that to modern day liberals "It's not what you say, but how you say it that counts." Because in their minds how can anything they deem to be noble, actually turn out to be a bad idea.
They keep putting lipstick on this pig but even they aren't buying it.
Obama is telling Americans that the cap and trade and health care reform bills are too complicated for their poor brains to understand, and if they wait too long, the bills will become even more complicated and incomprehensible, so it is absolutely vital that they be passed, without question, before the August Congressional recess. Just drink the kool aid, fast, and everything will be OK.

Great post!
remember about a million years ago when Limbaugh had his TV show? One day he shows up loaded to the gills with collered ribbons. Exposing absurdity by being absurd.
Looking at a problem on the other side of the planet, is easier for some than looking a problems at home.
Washington does not read or understand effect the reform they pass.
I thought that the Obama mantra was TRANSPARENCY??? he wanted to post any bill online for 7 days before a vote was placed on any bill? Cap and trade did not even have the ink dry before it was ready…. this administration is a shame….. It is turning into another derangement issue and the namesake will be OBAMA this time….. The socialist characters are lined up and running this country into the ground… thanks to the people that voted for this man…. it will be the downfall of the western civilization, this man and the likes of Hoyer/Pelosi/Boxer and Rangle…. what a who's who list of socialist and progressive LIB's
I can just see the typical Hollywood liberal's response to some questions regarding the cause of the day.
"Mr. (fill in the blank)!! How do you feel about Darfur??"
"I'm all for it…. Dude, you're in my light….."
How dare you question Hussein Obama !
Racist !

This morning, one of the local radio guys likened the Obama Admin. to a bunch of used car salesmen. "You NEED this today, the deal is good for today only. Buy now! Buy now! Buy now!" Anyone who doesn't see a red flag after that analogy is beyond hope….or change.
Slowly but surely….I have said it more then once… it is downfall or decline of the western civilization as we know it
Is that like saying he is articulate?
Thanks, Tchris: It is vital to the Obama administration that Americans not understand what the liberals are up to, or it will all be over. The small delays so far in the rush to make everything a tool of government have already produced massive citizen anger, and cracks in the formerly united Democratic front. The faster Obama pushes this through, the better for him. Given time to reflect and consider, none of his power-grabs will get passed in anything like the form he would like. So hurry, hurry, hurry.
How about asking these people where is DARFUR? can you point it out on a map or a globe?
Donn: Which makes me wonder how long it will take before they read the handwriting on the wall.
Who is that in that Darfur shirt? Looks familiar but not distinctive.
Do as i say and not as I do is the hypocrisy of the liberal elite movement. Congress and the Senate dont want Obamocare for their heath care.
Chug, Chug, Chug, Chug – Golly, this KoolAid tastes terrible but if our King tells is to drink it it must be good! Chug,Chug, Chug….
I agree the longer it take them to Pass Cap and Trade and Obamacare the more aware Americans become that the agenda of the Pelosi, Reid and Obama is not the change that most Democrats wanted.
I agree the longer it takes them to pass Cap and Trade and Obamacare the more aware Americans become that the agenda of the Pelosi, Reid and Obama is not the change that most Democrats wanted. I didnt vote for BO beacuase of his radical associations.
I second that……
Tchris: I actually think that Obama does have feelings for the people who voted him in. It's far more dangerous than that. I think he actually believes in his messianic vision, and truly believes that he is the man who is going to save America from itself. That kind of true belief always leads to disaster.
kool-aid flavor of the day: pee-eww.
One positive thing is the Democrats are wearing out their welcome. It took 12 years for them to recover from Carter. It will be 16 years for them to recover from BO.
Thanks for raising my awareness about this issue Greg.
I think it is Ryan Gosling from the movie "Lars and the Real Girl" and "The Notebook" among others.
The Greek translation for "utopia" is literally "no place." American liberals always remind me of what Brazilians used to say about themselves; "Brazil is the nation of the future and always will be." The Left is so obsessed with achieving some sort of scientifically perfect society that any "minor" costs to human freedom and liberty are things they are willing to bear. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the Marxist historian Eric Hobsbawn was asked if the sacrifice of the fifty million or so human beings who died under Lenin, Stalin and their successors would have been worth it if the USSR had actually "worked." Hobsbawn's instant response was "yes!" I believe that most socialists really understand the cold inhumanity underlying their program and adopt causes like Darfur, Tibet and others simply as a sop to their own consicences.
Hawk, I must admit I never looked at it like that… and how true is that!!!! Truth is this vain will lead to DESTRUCTION!!!!
Andrew, don't you mean you blood pressure???
"Awareness raising" does seem to fall into one of two categories:
1. "Raising awareness" on an issue where it's clear nothing is ever going to be done except more awareness raising. Prime example here would be Dafur, where everyone who's going to be made aware already is, and it's obvious nothing is going to be done except more awareness raising–unless someone seriously thinks that "Dancing for Dafur" is going to save anyone.
2. "Raising awareness" on an issue where you actually can do some good by spreading information, but for various reasons, won't give enough information or the correct information. AIDS would be the obvious example here.
I suppose there are some problems that people become aware of, and that awareness has the effect of solving the problem. However, those don't seem to be the ones that interest the activist. After all, once the problem is solved, there is no more need for people to raise awareness.
No, I was just goofing on the title.
On the issues, I'm not worried because they're all falling apart on the Messiah.
The messiah is getting out of touch with his MINIONS….
Greg rocks!
His humour is so refresghing
Such a handsome clever man (sigh)
The fallacy of "transparency" is that you can give too much information and too much access. Obama & Co. are counting on people get overwhelmed, then getting bored and moving on. They were banking on it. But what they are also finding is that there are now 300M eyes on them and, if you have 300m eyes and 300M pages of info, all any one person has to read is one page and share the information. We are catching on. Instead of getting bored, we are delving deeper and finding interesting little tidbits buried in the details. Like, why is the USDA paying $1.50 per lb on ham sandwich fixins for food bank programs when we could fill up local food banks by just going to the local supermarkets and paying .79 per pound?" Vilsack's been caught – oops, too much information…
Go to http://www.drudgereport.com/ and you will see what I mean.
I predict at some point shortly, the Obama administration will be reporting a "crash" at Recovery.com that won't be easily fixed…
While everyone is commenting on the blogs I sincerely hope that you're using the same computer to inform your representatives daily to oppose The Obama juggernaut and listen to their constituency instead. Wth the myriad issues now threatening to derail this Republic and set us on a course to being Europe or some other nig-nog nation now would be the time to let them have a piece of your minds, and don't pull any punches. Be polite yet firm. Let them know who they work for and why. Let's not go quietly into the night.
The minions are leaving the compound. . . starting to stare into the abyss that is unemployment if they lose the next election.
Haven't seen Bruno, but loved the clip when he talks about DarFive, now that Dar four has been done…..the satire is beyond biting.
"Uh sure dude, it's right across from the Starbucks, I get my eyebrows waxed there…."
The only words that really stood out to me there where "USEFUL IDIOTS" that is the NEW DEMOCRATE RALLY CRY… USEFUL IDIOTS!!!
“raise awareness" is code for give us money. I observe awareness campaigns in breast cancer, domestic violence, AIDS, pets – mostly women, gay, and animal stuff. These people have been creating awareness for two or three decades now. Give it a break already – get a real job.
With slipping poll numbers and no evidence that anything Obama is doing is actually working, and with the prospect of even more radical out of control spending on the horizon they should be concerned that their game is up and everyone's getting wise.
That CRASH is very evident in the way the dem's of the seante are starting to balk at alot his views and bills…. We have been drudged through the mud now for 6.5 months!!!! this administration has one good thing.. it has casued all of the CONSERVATIVES to really rethink there place we are starting to try and make a difference, by emailing faxing and calling our senators and saying we are not happy…. I know that his month alone I have contacted my senator and congressmen about 6X. via email and phone calls… we need to stand together and EXPOSE this man for the shame he and his minions really are!
greg…what about all those "studies" that report on coffee, sex, obesity, bad breath, depression…….all paid through my tax dollars….and they all differ depending on who, when and why it is studied……
visualize whirled peas bro
ryan golling who got with sandra bullock…she robbed the cradle on that one
That Darfur shirt totally saved lots of lives. Right?
"…maybe he'll be stopped before we're reduced to third-world status. "
Hank, I sure hope that's the case….seems to me he won't be satisfied until every American is living in a straw hut like his brother in Kenya.
"Such a handsome clever man," if by handsome you mean Marty Feldman and by clever you mean Leave it to Beaver.
I watched a video with the guy who write STUFF WHITE PEOPLE LIKE promoting his book at the Politics and Prose bookstore. He is a liberal guy from Canada who makes fun of liberals. He says liberals (particularly actors) make themselves feel important by raising awareness. They don't have to do anything or give any money.
It is funny how much awareness raising involves nudity. I think there must be a lot of folks just looking for an excuse for getting naked in public.

Raising awareness for the Raising Awareness campaign. What color of rubber awareness bracelet would that be? Or the ribbon?
Made me look (or more accurately look it up in Wikipedia).
Are you talking about Marty Fieldman – Football Coach
or English writer who had Graves Disease and died?
How about, we agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
hee hee
I vote for invisible (or is that too obvious?).
I bet the guy in the photo couldn't even point to Darfur on a map.
Ever so true. In my entertainment law class, we talked about the use of loan-out corporations. Basically, a tax dodge for those who make enough money. Ever notice that the liberal rich love talking about "awareness" and "giving," then hire the best tax lawyers and accountants available to avoid paying whatever they can?
"Raising awareness" isn't code for "give us money," it is a mindless, knee-jerk reaction from those who feel the need to use "celebrity" to "do something." Basically, it is (generally speaking) a group of people who want to "do something" in order to give meaning to their lives.
That is, when it comes to the rich and "famous." There are plenty of people who struggle to raise awareness on issues that are really ignored. But, really, who *doesn't* know that AIDS and breast cancer kill people? I see it in sports. Just last year, NCAA basketball coaches wore white shoes to "raise awareness" regarding breast cancer. Really? There's something called breast cancer that kills people?
Something else really upsets me: nearly as many men die from prostate cancer as women die from breast cancer, but I don't see all the ribbons/awareness days/rallies that we see with breast cancer. That, of course, is due to politics (even men want to save breasts).
Or AIDS – the rate of mortality with AIDS is a *fraction* of that associated with prostate and breast cancer, let alone other types of cancer. Yet we spend VASTLY higher amounts of money per death on AIDS research (a disease which can be stopped through behavioral changes – and I don't mean "stop being homosexual," or anything – simply slow down in the number of sexual partners/get tested/safe sex/don't use IV drugs, etc., would be enough) than for any other kind of research.
The actual numbers are astounding, and show the politics of death and disease. The same goes for "awareness:" people talk about Darfur (but not the religious genocide that is at the core of the violence) but not other tragedies (China, alone, gives us a cornucopia of issues).
the sinner,
Patrick
That's no good. They need everybody to see how aware of the awareness they are.
I doubt he could point to the United States on a map.
Reminds me of a funny line from a song by an obscure band named Shoveljerk, who once opined "how many ribbons do you own? And do you wear them when you're alone?"
This from the mid-90's. Now it isn't so much ribbon-wearing as "awareness raising."
the sinner,
Patrick
Absolutely, raising awareness, if by awareness you mean taxes.
Cheers.

You just described a Hippie….
Were you NOT CONSCIOUS during the multiple hearings???? At the UN, at the Capitol, and back again. The debate raged longer than the first Gulf War.
Oddly, there's no fuss from the left about upping the ante in Afghanistan.
LawHawkSF this goes back to what I have been saying since Obama appeared on the political stage. That he was created by the Democrats to run for President. A lab experiment if you will, that's sole purpose in life is to push through every piece of crap legislation Liberals have ever wanted, and die when the experiment is complete. Call it political suicide! He's expendable to the Democrats! A means to an end for them!?
To quote my favorite metaphor yet again: No matter what we do to fight it, we're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
What's the difference?
Liberalism flourishes in the shadows expose their leftist horse twaddle to light and it vaporizes in a hazy ‘60s mist. Everybody raise hell with your representatives and these imbeciles can be stopped.
The effort to raise awareness is acknowedging that we must raise our awareness in order to become more aware for awareness' sake.
Uhh, where was I?
Jake, it is so true….. this is a sinking ship and the commander is no where to be found… he is off with his other SOCIALIST buddies….I knew even before he was anointed, this was going to be the end of a GREAT COUNTRY….. Obama, always said this is a GREAT COUNTRY now HELP ME CHANGE IT!!!!!
Greg is right on as usual… I saw Greg last week about 230am "lollygagging" as he talked on his cell walking up Broadway…I dont wanna use the term "crab walking" to imply anything lol I couldnt get outside fast enough, I was going to actually try to talk to him, but I didnt wanna end up as a story on the show….
If these groovy people want to be aware maybe they should drop a couple of tabs of Orange Sunshine and get themselves lost in the desert.
and this guy is probably the type to mock the people who have flags or magnet ribbons on their cars….
and the photo guy is probably the type to mock the people who have flags or magnet ribbons on their cars….
I think you're totally right on! I've always felt Obama was essentially the product of a well managed marketing campaign. Here's a guy with less practical experience, than say…the governor of Alaska (just an example). He's been a community organizer (rabble-rouser), a senator in one of our most corrupt states, a US senator, where he voted not to vote nearly 200 times and ran for president for half of his tenure. He's got no substance other than giving frilly speeches and can't do those without the infamous prompter. I think you're more right than you know on this.
Pushed? From what I remember it took 14 months to go through the UN sinkhole with one worthless, unenforceable resolution after the next to get the first boots on the ground in Iraq. It was hardly rushed, as many would like us to believe.
Got me on that one! +1 Jake………………..
I agree. Obama is extremely Narcissistic. No one believes they are doing evil. Believe me, Hitler thought he was doing the right things. That's why he did them. With Obama, his followers listen to the message and are satiated. My mantra has always been, "Your actions speak so Loud, I can't hear what you're saying". He said he didn't want to be in the auto industry and then promptly got into the auto industry. His followers heard the message but ignore the actions. I've talked to some that voted for him and they are still convinced he is going to "clean up the mess of the last 8 years" How do you get through to someone like that?
Vatz, going into Iraq did not happen overnight, was well known and widely supported well ahead of time, and it was debated by many before anything happened. Many WHO SUPPORTED IRAQ, PARTICULARLY ON THE LEFT, HAVE SINCE DECEIVED ALL CITIZENS BY DIS-AVOWING THEIR OWN COMPLICITY IN APPROVING AND SUPPORTING THE IRAQ DEPLOYMENT … this is the ultimate hypocracy and is typical of the modern statist (the liberal left). You have no idea how you've been lied to, not by BUSH, but by the liberal left who are simply pigs … this includes your teachers, your media, and your university professors etc.
How do you like O'bummers illegal, immoral, un-constitutional, unethical, non-transparent government? Do you even understand how un-constitutional the deployment of these 30+ CZARS is? Do you even know what is in the Constitution?
Sleazebag politicians are our biggest export here in Illinois. We figured since where so good at it, we might as well take it to the national scene………you can thank us later……
It isn't about raising awareness anymore. We need to raise new leaders who represent "We the People". The liberal left in Hollywood don't represent "real" people who struggle in the day to day…real families who have lost jobs and are trying to stay afloat. The elected government officials who won't have to be on any government health care plan EVER, they really don't care at all about what the real American will experience on Obama care or how high our taxes go. They are exempt from our trials. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, the whole lot are nothing more than Snake Oil sellers and they have some people charmed because Hollywood helps to sell their wares. I guarantee if George Clooney or Barbra Streisand had to go on the Obama death plan, they would sing a different song. It floors me how Ms. Streisand can back a President that has sold her people (the Jewish Nation of Israel) down the river – a President who gives our tax dollars to Hamas…. Go Figure….. But then she lives in her own little secure world safe from the true reality
yeah that's him. but HE is also into wearing 'in' shirts. darfur is cool…Rwadna is so last decade.
No wonder Obama is Compelled to do everything at once, before he moves on to the next… as yet unheard of bunch of govt. takeovers. He's aware of everything, just as he implied in his campaign. Nothing he's doing is experimental. It's all well thought out and backed up by a combination of propaganda, threats and a thuggish grip. But sometime between now and 2012 I expect he'll start finding that he'd been 'misinformed', by others. Those czars might make handy decoys. Hell, at least it's a true Epic.
The capitol switchboard number is 202 224 3121. Call and ask to be connected with your Senator. If you don't oppose this healthcare insanity, you will be jeopardizing the future health of your family and yourself. Rationing is the obvious outcome to government "cost cutting", a drop in students becoming doctors, and the absence of free market competition. Now is the time to act like an adult, not a child.
Depends what type of Hippie we are taliking about doesn't it? If it's an ageing, ponytail wearing, 60's Hippie then yes please add copious amounts of drugs.
If it's a new age granola eating, bunny hugging, fart sniffing Hippie than no, all they need is a slogan (Hope And Change seems to be big) and a few retro concert t-shirts and their good to go!
Both taste like chicken if you grill em' right though……..Save a cow, grill a Hippie is my motto…
I'll go with that! Hash flavored Hippies or Hippie flavored Hash? You could probably get a contact high from the smoke coming off the grill……
You'd be surprised what Hollywood bigwigs can get on the black market. They certainly have enough money to grease all the right wheels.
I'm guessing that would be a red Mobius strip.
[...] Greg Gutfeld’s column at Big Hollywood doesn’t use a military analogy per se, but it reminded me of one, using a lesser known military event—The Son Tay raid into North Vietnam in 1970. The letters on their post-operation unoffical patch stand for “Kept In The Dark, Fed Only Horsesh*t,” referring to the extreme secrecy of the plan, details of which even the pilots were kept in the dark on until they were airborne. With Obamocare, Tarp, and Government Motors our Free Enterprise is lost and our Freedom is being taken away.
With the power he wields, it is as if he has no feelings for the people that he was voted in by….. it is pathetic what his plans have already done to this country and it will continue to get worse….. we are in a world of hurt at the moment and he is continuing us down the spiral!!!!!
what he said!
Totally agree with Hank.
I disagree, I think he views those that elected him, and his enablers as useful idiots. I think he believes this was his destiny and he was going to win anyway. he's been told he's so smart by everyone that he must surely believe he's smarter than everybody else in the room anyway.
I do agree that he believes he's the answer to all America's problems. And while he goes about dismantling everything our founding fathers built, he believes he knows better than they did.
His poll numbers are slipping these days, maybe he'll be stopped before we're reduced to third-world status.
It irks me when a celebrity goes around advocating environmentalism and the people of Darfur. Instead of making high profile advertisements and appearing in rallies, how about they focus on the people who made them successful, the average fans, and focus on domestic problems. Let the UN focus on global issues…HA!
Face it. For liberals, 'raising awareness' of a cause really means raising awareness of themselves. It's the giant 'look at MEEEEE!' spotlight highlighting how saintly, how caring, how damned smart and aware the (fill in the blank) liberal is. They're all St. Francis of Assissi or Peter on the Rock raising their arms beatifically into the air – all the while their eyes scan the crowd to get body count so they can brag afterwards to other liberals "I drew a bigger crowd than YOU!". Vanity – thy name is liberal.
"Just drink the kool aid, fast, and everything will be OK." That could have been Jim Jones' slogan! Hmmm…
My representatives don't listen to me. In fact it's worse than that. I am positive that I'm on the Obama black list if it ever gets that far.
I'm surrounded by hyper-leftist eggheads who are so clueless about all of this. It take two minutes into a debate with them to realize they can't debate me. And they think I'm the idiot.
Double hee hee; Marty Feldman, comic actor, in many Mel Brooks movies, you may remember him as Igor to Gene Wilder's Dr. Fronk-oon-steen in "Young Frankenstein." Yes, the one with Graves disease.
back at you.
Cheers, Frank
If it weren't for "raising awareness", what else would liberal arts majors do after college?
I went to a minor league baseball game last night with my daughter to meet Sponge Bob. These young girls were passing out flyers for a "not for profit" music concert at the stadium. The flyer said something about the concert was for the whole family and to raise funds and to and I quote " raise awareness for all thats good" What the hell does that mean? raise awareness for all thats good. I found it odd that they would want to raise awareness for all thats good by bringing in bands that are all that sucks. Thats a pinko commie for ya. Oh and by the way the fun filled concert for the family 45 dollars a ticket 100 for a VIP which I would imagine seats you as far away from the crap band as possible?
Same tactic as coining the term "politically correct."
I saw a whole bunch of black folks standing outside a local helicopter plant on strike. Ii coudln't help myself but I yelled out as I was driving by "how's that hopey/changey thing working out for ya?" It was a beautiful moment marked by much hand gesturing on both sides.
