Michael Jackson is dead.
I get why this is news, and on a very deep level, why it’s important to a lot of people. But I hope soon we all make room for the things that are equally as important. Michael Jackson’s death doesn’t mean we should forget Neda’s.
Millions of Iranians who were risking their lives – hoping that we might act in solidarity- are now temporarily rendered irrelevant and unwatched by the world, because of the coverage of the death of a superstar.
I know, it makes total sense. It’s the biggest story, perhaps, in years. But any momentum to expose, or stop, mass tragedy, has been, for the moment, muted.
Mahmoud must be doing the moon walk. Can you blame him?

Did you catch that the White House issued an immediate statement on Jackson? Oddly, I didn't hear Obama pontificating that endorsing Jackson would delegitimize the claims of the children he was accused of raping.

But… but… it's Michael Jackson. He changed the world, he inspired all of us. . . unlike some people I've never heard of doing whatever it is they do in some South American country like Irania.

Thank you. Michael Jackson is dead. Bummer. But he wasn't exactly a shining example of physical or mental health was he? I understand some immediate coverage, but honestly, I haven't heard anything else on the news today. While we're all turned around moping about a guy that most of us can agree is kind of a creep, Libs are ramming a climate tax right up our hoohoodillys. Mahmoud isn't the only one dancing. Dems must be delighted at the opportunity to do this while we're looking the other way. If we can't get our priorities straight, we deserve what we're getting.

Amen to that! The Dems couldn't have planned this better if they tried. They're passing a massive energy tax bill that will bankrupt the nation and bring our economy to a screeching halt, and everyone's focused on the death of a very troubled and not very relevant pop star.

You know RS…you sorta have a point. My niece wasn't quite sure what the protests are about, but is compelled to be FOR the protesters…even though one despot is probably much the same as the other, if people get just a TASTE of freedom….they'll keep biting. Yes, thousands are always dying in Africa…but that's the trouble with Africa…no one ever learns a damn thing…it just goes on and on…I think there's some hope for Iranians because they're a little more educated If that sounds bigoted, so be it. (I recently watched Black Hawk Down and am in no mood…).
Governor Sanford and Letterman must be doing the happy dance as well. He just became a minor local story as opposed to a national punchline. Full-tilt Jackson coverage will dominate the weekend, then calm down a bit until the funeral, which will shut down L.A. And then things will wind down until the full coroner's report is released. This is the Princess Di/JFK Jr. model. Going to be interesting to see how "The Stoning of Soraya M." is affected this weekend, if at all. It had a big buzz, but Jackson just swallowed the media and the internet as well.

And that is the big point right there. In many cases, history has shown that once those who've been subjugated for so long get a taste and an understanding of what they have been denied, they hunger and fight for more.
Maybe he needed a nuclear plant to power his hyperbaric chamber.

Like I mentioned in another post- the people want "bread and circuses," not real-life issues to deal with. Iran is burning, America is on the precipice of disaster, and the MSM spends all its air time on this tormented and perverted celeb's death.

Colleen the trouble with Africa is that for Centuries because of the Richness in Natural Resources such as Gold, Silver, Oil, Slaves ect. This continent has been looted and exploited by savage and violent Invading Countries who arm and turn tribes against each other while they Steal what they want! Black Hawk Down was a Movie made by people who want to glorify the violence without telling the whole story. Their are many books out that explain how Africa has been exploited if you can tear yourself away from the TV and read a book. African People deserve Freedom just as much as the Iranians and a large part of Africa is Educated but you are not shown that on your TV so you dont know. On your next vacation you should do some traveling or reading to Broaden your Horizons.

Michael Jackson was a landmark musical entertainment figure, and we would expect some major coverage, but this is totally out of control, even with the medical mystery element taken into account. I'm sensing an upcoming maudlin People's Princess event in the offing.
