Daily Gut: The Bystander in Chief
by Greg Gutfeld“We don’t know how this thing is going to play out.”
Somehow, that statement doesn’t blow your mind like “hope and change,” but that’s exactly how Obama feels about Iran.
“We don’t know how this thing is going to play out.”
Which, as you know, is a stance that has never stopped our President from immediately re-imagining health care, trying to end enhanced interrogations, or reducing carbon dioxide emissions via something ridiculous called cap and trade legislation.
“We don’t know how this thing is going to play out.”
I imagine you can use that excuse on pretty much anything. Except when it comes to press conferences. Which is why Obama does him. And now that our President has recognized that he’s potentially on the wrong side of history – he gave us a press conference designed to blunt criticism, as opposed to blunting the persecution of innocent people.
“Bearing witness,” as Obama calls it, is all it takes, apparently. But I’m not so sure. If you were being mugged, you’d really like a cop to shoot the bastard, instead of bearing witness. If you’re lugging five bags of groceries up four flights of stairs, “bearing witness” does no good. Lend a hand, champ.
So I disagree with Obama – we’re not seeing a “debate” in Iran. We’re seeing a brutal, ruthless crackdown. Something tells me that stopping that is more important than reducing carbon emissions to fight a questionable threat.
Look, I like the fact that he’s finally – although reluctantly – stepping up, but I wish Obama felt as immediately outraged about Iran as he did over the murder of an abortion doctor.
“We don’t know how this thing is going to play out.”
It would have been closer to Obama’s real concerns, if that quote ended with “for me.”
TONIGHT, we’ve got the awesome Adam Carolla, the lovely Anna Gilligan, the delightful Rick Folbaum, plus a look into your most sickening nightmares!

What a sad, sad lil' empty suit. Has no problems making up all kinds of dire predictions about the economy to get his imbecilic non-stimulus bill passed, but can't be bothered to look at the evening news to see how things ALREADY ARE playing out in Iran before hiding under his desk to avoid taking a side.
We have a brain dead, moronic putz for president.
The myth of Nero is in jeopardy, Barry will be king of the infamous, how’s that hope and change working out for you?
“We don’t know how this thing is going to play out.”
I hear that alot when I ask BO voters how's that hope and change working out for ya.
Obama's m.o. is the 'cool cautious' approach; ergo the moniker 'no drama Obama'. Sometimes this is a good thing, and it does sometime make him appear smarter than he actually is. It can run counter to leadership- which Mr Bush was actually quite good at. As the Colonel Glover T Johns told the late great Col. David Hackworth, "Showmanship is an essential part of leadership".
Obama can be good at that as well. And it is that, the essential rallying cry of oppressed people worldwide- Freedom!- that is the message a true leader should bring to the table.
We're waiting…
as long as he's fiddling, I request "Devil Went Down to Georgia".
don't hold your breath. Here in Michigan, we're still waiting for Granholm to "blow us away" as she promised at the beginning of her administration.
Um, what do you want him to do? Invade? Bomb? Well, what?
What does the WMD crowd want? Ante up, tough guy!
I think you're all just really pissed because now you CAN'T demand that he bomb them.
It is typical of Obama. He and others felt Bush was a "cowboy" who acted too quickly on most foreign policy issues. He probably is waiting to make sure he gets on the "correct" side of the issue politically. Charitably, though, I'll assume he believes he is doing the right thing because he actually believes he can negotiate in good faith with the existing government. I just believe he is is totally wrong in that assessment.
nobody wants war with Iran. And WMD proliferation is a real threat. However encouraging people to be free is the American way, isn't it?
That's all anyone wants…
This idiotic response takes many forms – the "what do you want him to do, BOMB THEM?", the "well do you have any ALTERNATIVES?" when you point out how flawed their plans are, and on and on and on.
What we'd like him to do, HuffnBlow troll, is speak out for freedom. You know, what America supposedly stands for, before we became "just like all the other countries out there". When the French President can speak out against Iran while our idiot-in-chief is getting ice cream, skating with Tony Hawk, and going golfing, that speaks very poorly of us.
Way to pony up. You've really got nothing do you – except for vague generalities and canned talking points. This is why you lose arguments. You don't bring a goddamn thing to the game.
Oh and BTW I'm not a troll — I disagree with you and challenge your lame-o statements. A troll tries to hijack the discussion into a flamewar and spam it all up. I'm not doing that here at all. You don't have much of an answer for my counterpoint so you call me a troll. Which is weak.
Neither did your mother.
Gee, nickname you're quite the idiot. Hows about he gets up off his knees and just uses some of that tough language from his Cairo speech? you know– "We will, however, relentlessly confront violent extremists who pose a grave threat to our security. Because we reject the same thing that people of all faiths reject: the killing of innocent men, women, and children."? Or maybee "And finally, just as America can never tolerate violence by extremists, we must never alter our principles." Or maybe "That does not lessen my commitment, however, to governments that reflect the will of the people. Each nation gives life to this principle in its own way, grounded in the traditions of its own people. America does not presume to know what is best for everyone, just as we would not presume to pick the outcome of a peaceful election. But I do have an unyielding belief that all people yearn for certain things: the ability to speak your mind and have a say in how you are governed
What about the notion that our getting too involved hurts the cause of the green revolters? That the regime would exploit that to tie the revolter to the US and undermine their credibility? That is the counterpoint. Address the counterpoint instead of calling me names.
I think what you want is to try to make him get involved so that you can blame him if the revolt fails. You want him to own it so you can blame him just like you blame him for everything else.
nicely said. And our 'I'm not a troll friend' disagrees but does not challenge, accuses those of talking points when it is talking points (and insults) that they offer instead of genuine discourse.
So you may feel comfortable with this particular triumph…
Sorry Greg, Adam Carolla is a punk.
So a troll tries to hijack a discussion into a flamewar … like disregarding my direct statement of what we want to call me names? Learn to speak like an adult before trying to engage in a conversation with one.
without the teleprompter, it's nothing but crickets.
Better them than us? A few well placed bombs might be in order.
"What about the notion that our getting too involved hurts the cause of the green revolters? That the regime would exploit that to tie the revolter to the US and undermine their credibility? "
That horse left the barn days ago. Do pay attention- the mullahs have been blaming this whole thing on us (and the Brits and the "Zionists") since Thursday. It's the standard 30-year propaganda line, and the populace don't think much of the regime propaganda.
What, you think they're going to blame us louder?
Tool.
I will tell you what I want from Barry! I want him to go the F**k away. I want it to be like he never existed. One Jimmy Carter in a lifetime is enough for me…………..
talking point
Sorry but you lost. Start winning arguments again. Take it like a man.
That 'notion' is ridiculous at first glance. While it's refreshing that you just decide to openly parrot White House statements rather than think for yourself, the reality is that Iran has been blaming us for the uprising since day one. They've said so, publicly, every day. What's the worst that could happen – they blame us TWICE a day?
You got there quicker than me!
Perhaps the same should be said to the Prop 8 opponents……
What do you really think, ha!
What, you think they're going to blame us louder?
Yes, when they have VIDEO of the President sticking his nose in it.
The reason they are revolting is bc they don't trust the regime. So if they are saying it's the Americans but have no proof, NO ONE IS BELIEVING THEM.
What's your point?
False equivalency
That's hilarious – people who don't trust their regime and are trying to violently overthrow it would abruptly stop if Obama, the person they supposedly love, were to openly endorse their goals.
What size bus do you ride to school, anyway?
learn to speak english. I don't even know what that means.
You misunderstand or something. At this point it is only the WORD of the regime that America is behind this. Once they have VIDEO that changes.
If you talked that way to Ahmadinejad, the Mullahs and their trolls you could be choking on your own blood like this young woman:
http://www.weaselzippers.net/blog/2009/06/we-are-...
Or lying dead now like this man:
http://www.weaselzippers.net/.a/6a00e008c6b4e5883...
All our President needs to do is say "We stand, and will always stand, with those who are on the side of freedom and against those who attempt to take freedoms away." He did not – nothing close.
Way to vent your Republican-hating spleen while people are being killed for speaking out against an election. Did you speak out when Bush beat Al Gore in Florida? Were you or any of your friends shot or beaten as a result – perhaps your daughter lay choking in her own blood for being on the streets during such a protest like the young woman above?
You need a lesson in decency, you ugly little person.
bring something to the table other than a regurgitated talking poiint created by someone else
There is no surprise here…he's simply voting "present" again.
And what happens when our President says that? THat changes what?
First of all, in his speech last Friday at prayers, Khameni called out American, the UN and Britain for meddling and interfering. So the notion of the US not getting involved is a strawman. As long as we're accused of meddling anyway, why not meddle? If the dissident don't want our help, why are the protest signs mostly in English? Certainly not to rouse the majority of Iranians who speak only Farsi!
President Firelfy can do plenty. First dis-invite Iranian diplomatic people to 4th of July celebrations. Symbolic, but important.
Second, how about sending a few thousand satellite phones to the dissidents to enable them to communicate with each othe and the outside world and avoid the regime's attempt at blacking out communications? Think that'll help?
Third, stop all the defferential talk, like calling Khameni 'Supreme Leader" and "the Islamic Republic" these terms confer continuing legitimacy on the despots.
Doing any or all of these things would show some leadership. Firefly is way behind the curve on this one, because that's where he wants to be.
He reminds me of when Bernard Shaw asked Mike Dukakis a question in the presidential debate. It was essentially "If someone broke into your house and raped and murdered your wife, would you be for the death penalty?". In gutsy, manly liberal fashion, he said that he would leave it to the justice system to come up with the best punishment for the perp and that he wouldn't want to see him fry. Why are liberals so gutless? They are so afraid of getting locked into a position (unless you're Barney Frank) that they can't wiggle out of later when it suits them. Obama's no different in that sense. Bill Clinton was the same way. No balls.
hey Nickname, you were a talking point at conception, and now even less than that, punk. F*** off.
Agreed +1
nick why dont you add something to the topic other than talking bs?
yet another brainless talking point. amazing how they apply to everything. like a handy-dandy utility belt full of talking points.
Obama knows exactly where the economy is going, and he's doing his best to make it worse. Unlike Iran, the economy is a disaster over which Obama has some control, and he has chosen to exploit the crisis to advance his socialist agenda. Iran is a different thing. He didn't create the problem, and he can't solve it, but he can assist in defeating the democracy movement by failing to take a strong stand for democracy and against oppression. Instead, he uses weasel words so that if the movement fails, he still has his buddy Ahmanedijad to talk to. He may not be able to guarantee success for the freedom movement, but by leaving the door open to the current regime, he can assist in the defeat of that movement. The opportunity to promote freedom is slipping away quickly. He can encourage democracy without ever saying he supports the overthrow of the current regime. And he is free to point out that the Supreme Leader has himself called the election questionable without ever directly attacking Ahmadenijad.
By the WMD crowd, do you mean Bill Clinton too? He said that there were WMD's in Iraq in 1998.
Jesus, even asking the question proves your stupidity.
Insulting, not convincing. Convince me.
Oh so there was no point in Obama condemning the protests FINALLY, right?

nick u should be euthanized post haste….
nickname, I thought I'd respond civilly, although your posts are uncouth and divisive. I've reviewed your posts, and a couple of things are clear:
1. You've only been part of this forum (at least in this guise) for 1 week, during which time you've managed to acquire a -49 rating entirely due to the content of your postings. I'm guessing that this validates you and your way of thinking somehow.
2. You use the mantra of "weak rhetoric", "unable to win an honest debate", etc, against other contributors, and yet your posts reflect the very things for which you revile others.
3. You repeatedly flog others for using conservative "talking points", yet most of your contributions use liberal talking points…for example, your latest "Bush's fault" response.
4. You don't "challenge" people's responses, you just attack them personally. Unless you think a barking dog "challenges" cars driving down the road.
5. You claim you are not a troll, because you don't incite flame wars. Yet, that is exactly 98% of your posting content. Honestly, I'm not sure if that non-troll 2% was intentional or a mistake on your part, based on your history.
Yes, thinking with your genitals has gotten the GOP so far lately.
Why on earth would you think he has control over what is happening there? Talk about arrogant.
Stick to the topic. Answer my question. Don't hijack the thread. It's not about me. It's about the topic.
Such as?
oh so i should be killed? i suppose you know a "lone wolf" who'll take care of the problem?
Perfect nco77!
I still don't see what that changes in Iran. That was for domestic consumption. I'm sure you'll credit him then.
[...] crediting his Cairo speech for inspiring the protesters” in Iran Greg Gutfeld, Big Hollywood: Daily Gut: The Bystander in Chief Commentary Magazine: Barbecue Diplomacy Scared Monkeys: Biden was Right, They would Fail … Hot [...]
And he was 100% wrong too. But he didn't invade. Trash the Clintons ALL YOU WANT. I have no love for them. Or Pelosi or Reid or whomever you want to claim I worship. Which is your next post.
No surprise there. Much like you don't understand a lot else in this world.
The United States of America is the number one purveyor of freedom in the history of the world. The entire history of human civiliziation.
That is why the President must condemn the actions, and do so with confidence.
If you don't understand that, and that's about as plain as it can be said, stop asking dumb questions and making stupid statements until you've actually studied history, and can discuss it without regurgitating Code Pink slogans.
you want me to argue with myself for you? amazing.
In my opinion that's arrogant bunk. Meaningless, empty rhetoric that changes NOTHING on the ground.
Perfectly repeated
are you advocating for my death because I disagree with you?
appearing smarter than he actually is
Only to wet-pantied little liberal pussies.
Maybe doesn't change anything, maybe everything. So, are you now claiming your guy is wrong for speaking out?
I'll give him credit for speaking out, but days after he should have. This is not LEADERSHIP. This is sticking your big toe in the waters to see if it's too chilly while that footage of that young woman being shot was out there for days.
It is condemning the death of "all innocent civilians" without distinguishing between Hirohito's Japan, Churchill's England, Hitler's Germany, or Roosevelt's United States.
Cowardly.
Germany and France spoke out before him – was that pointless, too? Well, the U.S. is probably right where you want it to be, following those countries' lead (not sure if the U.N. spoke out or not, but you probably would want an American President who waits for them, too).
I most certainly am responding to the post. What are YOU doing? THe question I am posing to the thread is what do you want him to do? And why do you not consider the possibility that getting more involved can hurt the green revolter's cause?
Very nice. . . and much more than the dipsh..t deserves.
Yes! That’s what you do so well, pretzel logic.
Hey Andrew, how about engaging and answering my question?
I thought it was brainless.
Not saying it's wrong I'm saying he's tired of conservatives kvetching about it. But I don't think for one second that it changes anything at all on the ground. He's humoring YOU. But he's not going to make the mistake of taking ownership of this. Which is what you're trying to trap him into.
It could be something simple along the lines of, say…"Tear down that wall."
Sorry StanH, but this little troll doesn't do anything well.
answer the question stop derailing the debate
doesn't take brains to repeat something you heard somewhere else
indeed. This has been a very civilzed thread about a 'leader' who isn't- and the only talking points have been utterd by Mr Name. It is amazing the self-righteous (and self congratulatory) tone his ilk takes with so little intellectual heft brought to bear.
He doesn't like 'ilk' any more than troll- and he isn't as flat out funny as auntie… you just can't find a good troll anymore…
"a look into your most sickening nightmares!"?
So you're going to talk about Bill Shultz's sex life?
That is a nightmare!
Nickname
I was an "Independent" up until you liberal morons voted this scumbag into office. So I didn't lose!
And what argument are you talking about? Do you mean any debate with the left which inevitably ends with children like you screaming Bush, Bush, Bush blah blah blah……..
Your type know's nothing of my former Senator. He is a crook who will do, and has done, whatever is needed to gain power.
He did nothing at all his entire political life in Illinois. Not one piece of legislation. Maybe you consider being groomed to be President a political career though?
He was created by Illinois Democrats for the White House. Your savoir is a lab experiment…..
There is one plus to BH0 being President though. He is out of Illinois and can't screw us directly anymore.
answer the question this is not about me.
Obama is a Marxist. Marxists believe that it is the responsibility of the people to revolt in order to push toward the ultimate evolution of political construct know as communism. It is maddening to watch, simply because it is all you hear in every university class where the professor feels as though politics has a role to play….which is every last freakin' one of them. I would not be surprised to think that Obama feels as though democracy has already had its chance in Iran and with the deeply imbedded influence Russia has in the country that behind the scenes with a power vacuum left behind after the topple of the current regime that what do you know…a man that no one has ever heard of before pops up and takes the reins of this "democratic' nation and pushes it toward a communist construct.
Thanks Greg. Appreciate your thoughts.
I think the thing that bugs me the most is Obama's misuse of the word debate. Debates don't kill people. If we keep sliding down this road of redefining words to soften a situation then we can use Obama's redefinition of debate and apply it to Tiller's death. Hey! It wasn't murder, it was a debate…. sheesh.
Guess what, if this were to happen, BO sure as hell isn't going to stop it. This is all conjecture on my part but I have a very real understanding of how academics view this sort of thing and they DO believe that the evolution toward communism is right, just and inevitable. In their eyes the ends justifies the means at all costs. Even if that means innocent people must spill their blood in the streets fighting for the illusion of freedom, that I pray will happen but the cynicism I have learned from listening to liberals speak will not allow me to believe.
I am not the focus of this thread. Why can't you guys directly engage on the topic?
Kimmel is funnier.
Define WMD.
Chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp………………
You're right there with the sharp one-liners! Obama's numbers are coming down, the Dem congress is below 20% approval, Nancy Pelosi has lower numbers than Dick Cheney, Harry Reid has lower numbers than a guy who got caught cheating on his wife. Wow, I'm scared that the Dems have locked this up for the foreseeable future.

What debate?
Dang bro, the truth hurts don't it?!
You're still not answering the points these guys are making nickname. Just skipping by the subject yourself.
Maybe not! But it’s not brainless, oh… you’re just being nasty.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
No he is advocating your death because you are an idiot!
answer the question
What is this topic?
what points? tell me what point I'm not answering. you know it's me vs. a lot of conservatives in this thread. I'm a bit outnumbered.
uh what was the question?
