Daily Gut: Bush Speaks
by Greg GutfeldSo in a talk before a local business group, former President George W. Bush finally responded to all the mud thrown at him the previous five months. In the speech, Bush defended his policies regarding enhanced interrogation and rejected the idea of government-run health care. And to top it off, he said the new White House dog sucks.

Well, that dog part isn’t true, but it doesn’t matter. Because I already know how this is going to be played by the media – a group who takes any criticism toward Obama as a personal insult. After all, Obama isn’t just the man. He’s their man. I’m sure right now, Chris Matthews is taking an extra dose of meds to control the “thrill.”
But let’s be clear. Bush has every right to talk about this stuff, since his beliefs are broader than any current political strategy. So if he’s asked about them, why not answer? After all – love him or hate him – his words reflect a philosophy that most people know to be true. That it’s people, not the government, who create wealth. And that “therapy isn’t going to cause terrorists to change their mind.”
And lastly, Bush didn’t start this war of words. He should have every right to take aim at the new administration’s policies – if only because for the past five months or so, Obama has been blaming Bush for everything from global warming to his lousy bowling.
But in the end, Mr. Bush still remained diplomatic, and that’s because he really wants Obama to succeed. Because Obama is his president too. Even if he can’t bowl.
Tonight: Tobin Smith, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Mark Ebner and Alison Rosen. I’ll be sitting again, too.

I say good for him…. I may not have agreed with everything he passed… But I know that he did the best he could with the circumstances he was given…. and I swear if I hear the Government utter the words "economy we inherited" (Or something to that effect) one more time I am going find a way to reach through the tv and throttle someone…. Because I am pretty sure that Fmr Pres. Bush didn't whine and complain about the recession that Clinton handed him… :/
Idiots.
If only GWB had had Sarah Palin's set of balls we might not be in this clusterfwark of a mess we're in right now as U.S. taxpayers.
As it stands, I have no respect for the man. Go back to Crawford. He does, of course, have a right to defend himself and his administration at any point. Wish he'd tried this tactict six, three, one years ago…
We should never forget that it was GWB's administration that started throwing Capitalism AND Israel under the bus.
I said it then and I'll say it now and history will say it later…. I like George.
I would love for someone to ask President Obama or one of his minions for a date certain when they are officially responsible for the decisions they make. How long are they going to milk the blame Bush first for everything party line? At some point they have to own their decisions and take responsibility for them. That's what grown ups do.
Prez Obama is shifting the blame now….he has his sights set on Fox News:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/06/17/o...
–"First of all, I've got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration."–
Poor guy…he's frustrated Fox didn't get the "Complete Adulation" memo.
This man shows how true class acts. I miss President Bush.
Bush is years late and Billions short . He should have been out their defending himself all along against the Opposition instead of being a Christan. Which I respect,
, but I'm not out there trying to destroy him. The Democrats took that as a sign of weakness. O.K. What's the Old Saying, Better Late then Never. Do what you can for Us W Do what you can. It's All Hands to the Pump.
GB got ahead of his administration and ahead of the American people and they couldn't keep up. He got thrown into the world after 9/11 and had to respond. Apparently, responses that even though he campaigned against them BHO is now perpetuating. He was a pathfinder in a violent wilderness. He rewrote some of the old rules and some of the fundamentalist couldn't handle it. He wasn't perfect, his administration wasn't always right but compared to many recent presidents he did a great job of protecting the United States from extremists and terrorists. I hope at the end of his presidency we can say as much for Brak.
George Bush is a decent man who you could believe when he said something. There were things that I disagreed with him on, No Child… Immigration, Prescription drugs, TARP. But after five months of Barry, I truly miss W.
Pres. Bush's comments while true will have no bearing on upcoming debates and legislation. What do you guys expect, reality? The uber liberal left has never been a subscriber to reality, they prefer to make up thier own. No amount of evidence, facts, or common sense will deter one of the members of the current administration from inventing thier own reality that supports whatever power grab they have in mind next. I am afraid it is already too late. We have lost this country and are just sticking around for the funeral.
You might find this blurb from NewsBusters interesting. I found it interesting how anyone who is not an Obama worshiper is labeled:
As my colleague Mark Finkelstein noted this morning, now that gay activists are unhappy with Barack Obama, CBS has dusted off the “far left” label and used it to describe those who are upset that the President has not done more to advance the gay agenda. Co-host Harry Smith on Thursday: “President Obama gets some pressure from an unlikely source, the far left….”
So when was the last time CBS even used the phrase “far left” to describe fringe groups beyond the liberal mainstream? A Nexis search reveals that the last time the phrase crossed the lips of a CBS reporter was five months ago. On Inauguration Day, anchor Katie Couric mildly described unnamed “people on the far left or far right who don’t want Barack Obama to succeed.”
And the last time the “far left” label was used by CBS to describe a particular person or group was more than two years ago. On the May 17, 2007 CBS Evening News, reporter Sharyl Attkisson was talking about an immigration reform bill: “It’s a complete reform of US immigration law as we know it, worked out by a bipartisan group of negotiators, including Senator Ted Kennedy, politically on the far left, and Saxby Chambliss on the far right.”
At least according to the data available from Nexis, CBS has never before referred to gay activists as “far left.” But now that they’ve criticized Barack Obama, they’re evidently outside what CBS sees as the mainstream.
Oh, kind of like how every other TV station was devoted to attacking Bush?
Cry me a freaking river, cupcake.
Glad to see Bush is finally defending himself. Obama has Bush Derangement Syndrome as much as anyone in the MSM. I'm sure those useful idiots on MSDNC will be working overtime attacking Bush for just opening his mouth. Odds of Stewart & Colbert "weighing in"? = 100% Odds of me watching them? <0.00000% The next time some Obamadrone says something about failed policies of 8 years, ask them when 1933-1941?
No, dear, that would have been Carter, not Bush. Of this I need to set you straight -the Bush Administration was one of the true allies of Istrael. They kept a tight rein on Israel while not caving to terrorists. Because no matter what you want to believe, Hamas and Hezbollah are terrorist organizations bent on the destruction of Israel and neither have not taken one step towards a peaceful resolution at all.
It was also the Democrats in Congress that have thrown Capitalism under the bus…
George Bush may have made a lot of mistakes, and had policies I didn't agree with, but you could tell he TRIED. You could tell he was humble, down-to-earth kind of man. He might not have been a great orator, but he was genuine.
Bush needs to keep on the DL for awhile yet. When he speaks he gives fuel to the blame Bush crowd.
He needs to keep quiet to ensure that a true conservative voice from a true conservative leader can rise from the ashes of the Republican party.
Whatever you may think of Bush, he showed that he was no true conservative as he turned a blind eye to the unravelling economy, along with the majority in congress, and then started us down the road to bailout nation.

Actually, it's "Better late THAN never".
No kidding…one station, out of DOZENS?? The man needs to ask Michelle for the contents of his scrotal sack back.
This isn't an exchange that Obama should have provoked. His bully pulpit can turn into a dunking booth really fast, especially right now.
And someone should replace Obama's tacky "Egg of Power" sculpture with Truman's "The Buck Stops Here" sign. Maybe he'd stop whining about the deficits and take ownership of them if his gargantuan government spending wasn't all just a big Keynesian experiment.
Well said!
I sincerely hope that critics of Pres. Bush do not find themselves on their hands and knees wishing for him back.
No sarcasm.
There are no conservative leaders, which is why he and Cheney are doing it.
Maybe you are supposed to do it twice, first late and then the second time never.
Look, you guys were in control for 8 years–complete control for at least 6 of 'em–and you screwed up. Big time. Face it, you blew it like almost no other admin in the last 100 years. So forgive it America isn't really listening to your "warnings." Especially since you can't make a point without hollering "socialist!" every other sentence.
You left a huge mess–(I know, I know, somehow none of it's George's fault, it's Clinton and Carter, all republicans skipping responsibility)–and it's gotta get cleaned up. Gonna take more than a couple months, most likely. You guys were pretty thorough.
Don't like how it's being done? Win a few elections. Maybe quit whining and pointing fingers, openly wishing for the pres to fail, and offer some solutions. And some sane candidates. Obama's way might not work, but you guys's way sure didn't work.
And Bush, seems his popularity goes up when he doesn't say anything–maybe he should go fishing and ranching, and wait for that time you guys are counting on for history to suddenly claim he's a great president. THEN he can talk…
Thanks Teach, the Blood got in my eye while I was posting it. I appreciate it . In a Christian sort of way of course.
Yea, learn how to spell properly.
What I take from all of this is, being the Am Pres is easier said then done.
Ha! That's right, the Bush administration never complained about what was inherited from Clinton.
How was the economy at the beginning of Bush's term? Oh yeah, the best Economy we'd seen in decades!
George Bush should not hang out with the clintons nor hug obama.
He has a sign permanently attached to his back that says "Kick me"
Bush is a good man, he farms the land, mostly by hand.
I believe the 78% of American voters who are Jewish threw Israel under the bus when they voted Obama into power.
I used to attend many pro-Israel rallies in NYC however found it quite discouraging to hear time and again how America MUST support Israel (which I agree) while at the same time hear how George W Bush was the evil Hitler destroying the world.
The last straw for me was the horrid treatment the pro-Israel camp did to Gov Palin; Sandra Bernhardt threatening to send her black brothers to rape Gov Palin if she stepped one foot inside Manhattan while the the pro-Israel camp refused her an opportunity to show her support for Israel. .
All I can say now is, if you mush insist upon crapping your hatred all over your friends do not expect your friends to come to your side when you need friends; stupid, blind, idiotic game played all because of Bush-hatred
Good Luck, Liberal America voted to screw you royally; I had nothing to do with their decision and neither did George W Bush.
Smartest thing you've said all day.
Correction: Good Luck Israel, Liberal America voted to screw you royally
You better learn how to HIDE and when did you become a Man?
I'd accuse you of history revisionism, but you probaby only 3 years only in 2000 and just don't remember it correctly.
Actually, the economy was slipping into a recession when Clinton left office. Al Gore even said that it was partially to blame for his loss.
But then Bush somehow got the blame for the downturn.
I'll go further…
I miss George.
While I do wish W. had been a little better at politics (e.g. what Obama's people are good at– responding immediately to every criticism) I do think there are a couple things to remember. 1) He was a better president than politician who took the war on terror with deadly seriousness, and was too busy to bother messing with those who wanted to score political points, and had the class not to do so, partially because oratory was not exactly his strongest suit. 2) He was elected as a "unificator" based on his record of governor in Texas. As such, he was never the conservative many of us had hoped or at least wished he was (see "no child left behind" and inviting the barbarian Teddy Kennedy over for a movie.)
Somebody scared W. sh**less about the collapse of the mortgage market and the financial markets and he over-reacted. This area was never his strong suit anyway, and by then, it's hard to blame him for actually giving a rat's ass given the horrible way he was treated.
Wow, good work.
Poor ricky…the word is "THAN", not "then". Please learn to spell correctly….
You do it with your Nose. ricky the Man ross LoL What is that… you going into Wrestling now or something?
I admire George Bush for his ability to make moonbats even crazier than it was previously thought possible.
Unlike liberals, we actually deal with reality and take responsibility. Bush needs to take the blame for opening the door to pouring government money into private business. It was wrong when he started it and now Obama is making him look like an amateur. He also did a very poor job communicating what he was doing the last 4 years which allowed the left to demonize him and everything around him. With that said, he not only inherited the Clinton’s recession but also Al Queda/911 because Clinton was preoccupied getting sexually serviced. Remarkably, for most of his presidency the economy was in good shape. By this time next year, Obama's policies will have this country in desperate trouble. Good luck with your savior and the election, I don't think even the MSM will be able to save you then.
Here's politics in a nutshell. When the other side's man does something we don't like that's all the proof we need he's scum. Alternatively, when our guy does the exact same thing it proves exactly nothing. That's what I've learned in my political migration to the Right. The Left only deplores something the other side's guy does. When it's somebody they like– crickets. See their loathing of Pinochet but worship of Castro as an example.
George Bush took office in Jan, 2001. 10 months eariier, on March 11th 2000, the stock market began to crash. It had lost over 50% of it's value by the time Bush took office, and the bottom wasn't hit until it had lost 70% of its value.
Great Catch!
"and you screwed up. Big time. Face it, you blew it like almost no other admin in the last 100 years."
Oh, bollocks.
An ability Sarah Palin seems to have inherited as well.
I thought it was funny when Gibbs said today that "they won" Yeah…but they won with lies, cowardice and intimidation, which is exactly how the government is being run today. Lets see if they win again. Americans aren't as dumb as they think.
"But in the end, Mr. Bush still remained diplomatic, and that’s because he really wants Obama to succeed. Because Obama is his president too. Even if he can’t bowl."
You know, every president, with the exception of carter, had waaay more class then the current president will EVER have.
Perhaps the only smart thing Ricky has said in a very long time.
The Bottom line is that President Obama was a solid socialist, with impeccable socialist credentials dating backk to his childhood, his years at Harvard, his religious association, his political associations. There is no reason for anyone to surprised that he acted as a Socialist, expanding government debt and authority, while taking over big chunks of the private sector. For whatever reasons, this is what Americans voted for.
George Bush and the Republicans in the US Congress (Graham, McCain, McConnell, Bohnner, Hassert, Delay, et al) all failed to be fiscally responsible heirs to the success of Reagan & Gingrich. None of them has any credibility with me at all. I don't care what any of them have to say at this point. I want them out of leadership in the US Government as much as I want Obama out.
Even money that “Oh prez please and Ricky Ross" are one in the same. It had that disjointed, I don’t know what the Hell I’m taking about feel to it.
If you are going to refer to President Obama "their man", how dare you use a lower case "M"?

Washington is a swamp that needs to be drained.
" ….in decades", huh? As in 20-30 years? If you weren't so pathetic, I'd pick a fight with you. At least make a half-assed attempt to get your history straight, comrade.
Unemployment during Clinton – 5.2052%
Unemployment during Bush – 5.2049%
Bush inherited the clinton recession – fact, check out the numbers.
Bush was dealt 9/11 – fact, and still managed to steward the U.S back to reasonable numbers. He did have an escalation in unemployment and the deficit when he left, granted, but your assertion is baseless.
Also, never mind the fact that your boy has quadrupled that number in 5 months! He only averages $540,000,000.00 A DAY!
We need term limits NOW for everyone in Congress as well as the POTUS.
And yes, I know the POTUS has an 8-year term limit. Although, if Obama gets re-elected in 2012, watch for calls to drop that restriction with our intellectual superiors in the MSM.
I guess you forgot about the .com bubble bursting that was a lead in to the Clinton recession…. I was barely of voting age when that happened and I still remember it… :/
And Gibbsy today said to former President Bush, "We had this debate, we counted the votes and we won!"
Juvenile does not even work here as an adjective.
This response was during a press briefing today when Gibbsy was asked about President Bush's criticism about Obama pursuing universal health care. The adults have left not just the building, but all of Washington! Grrrrr!
As a student of history, I completely believe that history will see George W. Bush in a much more favorable light.
I agree. His words had substance.
Actually presidents are limited to 10 years in office.
Let's hope that it isn't "TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE" for America's sake.
I disliked Dubya for many years, not really disliked, just felt he was a guy who should have had a long happy life as the owner of a baseball team, and maybe Governor of Texas (much later in his life, like now). I disagreed with many of his policies. I think Iraq, while well intended, was horribly mismanaged.
I tell you what though, he's a good person, you can tell by looking at him and hearing him. He's been demonized in a way comparable only to Adolph Hitler. It's not fair, and history will show him as a decent, good, if not great President.
All of the horrible things people said about Bush and his "Jack Booted Thugs" (how many times did you hear that expression) who were coming to take our freedoms away, will come true with Big BrOther in power, wait and see. He already controls the automobile (transport) and bank industries, health care is next.
Obama is the monster the Bush haters feared, but instead of the sane response of suspicion and skepticism, they worship at his altar. Scary.
I agree. Bush isn't a very good orator either. He needs to leave it to the Cheney's to defend his administration's policies that have kept America safe. (They're doing a great job too.) Unfortunatley, his economic policies set the table for what Obama and the Democrats are doing now (which is bankrupting our Country). History will judge George W. Bush's presidency in a good light.
Democrats(and people who vote for them): GREAT blamers but POOR problem solvers.

I'm certain that Historians in the future will connect the dots between the Persian Gulf War of 1991 and the overthrow of Hussein in 2003. They will see and understand that Clinton's eight years of malfesiance and weakness in the milddleeast, his inept foreign policy, his criminal misuse of American Military might to diivert attention from his domestic problems, his inablity to grasp the ramifications of the fateful Prince Sultan decision, and the connections that can be drawn between the Iraqi secret police and Clinton era terrorism, that have all been removed from public discussion by the corrupt and dishonest state of news reporting in this era.
We need a Constitutional Amendment to get term limits.
We also a need a Constitutuional Amendment to remove the phrase "to promote the general welfare" and capitalize "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" in the preamble.
Then we need to specifically articulate the areas of society regarding which Congress does not have our authority to pass laws or spend money.
This is where Conservatives and Libertarians should be focusing our efforts.
Robert Gibbs, "We had this debate, we counted the votes and we won!"
We have a little boy in the White House who is so used to getting patted on the head by white liberals, just for being alive; that he completely falls apart, like a child, at the first hint of criticism.
Obama, and all Barbara Boxer democrats, need to be defeated in the next election if this country is to survive.
I remember Jack Booted Thugs from the Clinton administration. Along with the black helicopters, etc.
thanks
I would edit if I could jack-azz
I'm more into jiu jitsu.
"I miss George."
I said that to my wife tonight while watching a History Channel show on U.S. Presidents (Carter through Obama).
My wife was not a Bush fan and asked me "why?"
I told her two reasons:
1) He had no problem declaring things right and wrong.
2) Bush never demonstrated anything but pride in America.
Are you saying that the government pulls magic levers to steer the economy? Even liberal economists don't blame Bush or Republicans for the recession, as much as they'd love to.
Can you find one quote where a Republican promoted subprime lending and the deregulation of securities? You can't, because it never happened. I can cite examples of Democrats promoting foolish subprime lending, but I wouldn't be ignorant enough to say it was their fault.
And we'll stop hollering "socialist" when your party stops socializing things. Even Hugo Chavez recently joked about Obama nationalizing more GDP than Venezuela– and he wasn't exaggerating.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I shall bring this to the attention of the MSM/HATE AMERICA coalition/intifada in the morning. You will all be in THE DEAR LEADER's re-education camps by dusk. Enjoy your flags while they last.
When pressed with all the concessions, Israel needs to pull an Obama and just remind everyone that "they won" (War of Independence, 6 day war, Yom Kippur war, etc…).
Bush kept us safe. I am proud that he was a cowboy against tyranny.
…you mean, like you? 'Cause you just misspelled "yeah."
I always beleived that George Bush had my country's best interest at heart, even when I didn't like some of the things he did. I never felt like he was just trying to be a celebrity and look out for his own self interest – and I miss that. I miss having a president who actually cared about more then their personal status.
I can edit. Do you want me to take a shot at it?
"Socialism" = truth hurts. Although, you do have a bit of a point. Try looking up fascism in the dictionary and then take a long and hard look at what President BO is doing with the auto companies and banks. Also, a local radio talker has a sound clip of a Sebelius interview where she admits that her preferred plan to socialized health care (her words) would be to enact a limited government option to compete against the existing private structure because it would drive them out of business and soon become a single payer socilized system. This is from 2007. Now examine what you see the hardcore Dems in Congress trying like mad to pass. Oh yeah, limited public option …
.
Big mess to clean up = So our solution is to max out our debt even more, by several magnitudes. My understanding of personal economics is that in order to pay off one credit card, I take out another one with an even bigger limit to pay off the first. Then I max out both cards. Wash, rinse, repeat. Because someone, accruing even more debt, at an even faster rate than before will magically fix all my economic woes. I'm not even going to get into the lack of logic here. Apparently DC has been going mad for quite some time, and they've totally sold you on the idea that the regular rules of finance don't apply to them.
Hah, I remember 8 years of whining and finger pointing. Perhaps you should remove the plank from thine eye before you point those grubby fingers. Also, you should consider that public polling now suggests that the public trusts Republicans on the economy more than Democrats. In fact, any major issue tha Democrats have addressed under this Administration is now magically polling in favor of Republicans. We don't seem to have to do anything; you guys are doing it to yourselves
My dad asked me one time "what is the difference between liberals and conservatives?" Being kind of a smartass I told him liberals see the world as they want it to be, conservatives see the world as it is. What I'm starting to realize is that the tables have turned.
"his words reflect a philosophy that most people know to be true. That it’s people, not the government, who create wealth."
I don't think that is the case anymore, most people do believe the gov't creates wealth. Most have too little education or (un)common sense to know otherwise. "Most people" don't know or care about anything other than when the new iPhone comes out or what to "tweet", everything else is someone else's problem.
That's odd, ricky…a little "edit" button appears right after I post a comment. You may want to upgrade the PC in your command center, or at least hit the "SpellCheck" tab.
There is no comparison between Pinochet and Castro. Pinochet, whatever his faults, left his country prosperous and at peace internally. He promised elections at a certain date, held them, lost and relinquished his power. Castro has done none of those things. But Pinochet was a man of the Right and therefore a demon, while Castro is a man of the Left and thus a "saint"
Too little to late. If Pres Bush and his Administration had spend more time forcefully defending his policies we might not have ended up with a Chicago pol in the WH. Also less not forget that it was W who opened the door for Obama's dismantling of our capitalist system.
Hey Gutfield, newsflash for you:
W. isn't very popular right now. He's politically radioactive.
I hope he speaks out more and more, because every time he speaks out, he helps Obama, he makes Obama look that much better. He reminds people of what the other side did to this country.
Every speech by Bush=a few more years in the wilderness for the Bush Party.
The other side did nothing to this country, except keep it safe. Too bad you can't say the same thing about your man in the White House, who is destroying this country day after day.
And I hold the fools who voted for him responsible for every bit of it – including the blood that will be shed when the jihadists attack once more.
Oh, I don't know about that. I hope – and pray – that you're right but then, look at all these fools – Boxer, Pelosi, Chris Dodd, Ted Kennedy – that have managed to stay in office for years because the people in their states or districts keep re-electing them. In my state (Illinois), the people voted to elect and re-elect two oily frauds (George "Lyin' Ryan" and Rob Blagojevich) in succession to the governor's office.
Where Obama is concerned, "the far left" is a straw dog. There is NOBODY to this man's left.
I miss Bush, and am confident that future historians will be much kinder to him.
An observation about the difference between Bush's off-teleprompter verbal stumbles with Obama's:
Bush had a lot to communicate, and he stumbled along trying to get it all out.
Obama has nothing to say that's not pre-scripted, and so he just bumbles along to fill time.
Jiu Jitsu is the art of using your opponent's violence against him, which bears little resemblance to your oafish malevolence. You usually end up leading with your chin.
"Bush never demonstrated anything but pride in America."
Man, I miss that, too.
I find it interesting that obama is so much more critical of Fox news than he is of Iran and North Korea.
George Bush 43 was a great leader in harsh times, strongly dedicated to his country, to the welfare and the security of the American people. He has make the most difficult choice regardless for his personal benefit. The time will passed and that great man will be more and more loved, as for all the real freedom fighters. God Bless Georges W. Bush.
