Daily Gut: The Travesty of Truces
by Greg GutfeldSo Tuesday, the Pakistani Taliban decided that it wants a peace deal – kind of like the one they had originally before they ramped up killing and maiming people in awful ways (which to them, is basic yard work). And then, quickly and appropriately, they got their hairy asses handed to them on a goat.
No wonder, they’re up for a truce!
And here we find another lesson on how the world really works: When it come nuts, truces suck. There should only be victory for one side, and defeat on the other. The “other” being the nuts, of course.
Anyone mildly aware of history knows that truces mean nothing to people consumed by fanatic ideology. As a resident fool, I’m willing to suggest it’s the very unwillingness to compromise that makes them fanatics! (And vice versa.) The Taliban, for example, want their Sharia law, along with their unmanageable beards, their institutionalized abuse of women and gays, their barbaric notions of justice – and nothing is ever going to shake this twisted grim world view from their lice infested heads.
Well, there is one way.
Death.
The latest round of fighting eliminated roughly 1,100 Taliban from our pleasant, noisy orb – a development that transcends all language barriers and religious differences. The simple ultimatum – “stop hurting people or face death” – is the only way you can talk to freaks who hate you and want you dead. In this strange new world, it helps to be reminded of this: that while the symbolism of an “unclenched fist” soars in speeches, it makes little impact when you want to hit someone.

remember the last truce with the Taliban? Tora Bora anyone? Let Usama escape, last we checked, and some good people we know died because of it…
That must've been GW's fault. Isn't that the motto nowadays? I'm going to tell my son to tell his teachers that it's all the fault of the GW administration as to why he didn't turn his homework in on time.

These guys use a truce like a timeout. They go in, start trouble, and after losing a good portion of their armed fighers and captured territory, ask for a ceasefire. They then use the time to regroup and rearm without fear of being fired upon and begin their mini Tet offensive all over again.
Are the Pakistani forces actually discussing another truce with the Taliban?!

The only reason they want truces is so diplomats from moslem countries can come in with more money and arms. That and they got their hairy asses hand to them again.

There's a story (don't know if it's true) about a British honcho in the Raj in India. When the Indians claimed the right to continue the burning of wives (Suttee, I think it's called) upon the husband's death, the Brit commander said, no, that wouldn't be acceptable. "But it is our custom," the Indian replied. The commander nodded understandingly and said, in effect, "Well, we have a custom, too. When someone burns up another human being, we put them to death, usually by hanging."
This is what needs be done with the Muslim fanatics. We don't need Obamas trying to curry favor by playing nice with people who behead other people, people whose religions encourages them to murder their daughters, covers women in shrouds before they're dead, openly calls for death for those who don't believe like they. What's required is to assist these people in achieving that which they long for more than anything else — Paradise and the 77 virgins that go with it.

The "Western" way of war is a face to face clash, with one winner and one total loser. By accepting the "eastern" way, we allow ourselves to be drawn into a series of meaningless truces (the Arabs have a name for these: something like 'hudna' ie, let's back off, relax, get a good meal, and then go at the battle when WE feel like it.)
It is a symptom of our weakness that we have forgotten how to be "Western." We have forgotten how to win.
Why isn't the UN and the world demanding that Pakistan accept a truce like they always do when Israel is kicking jihadi butt? That doesn't seem very even-handed…
Good one, Greg. Although I think it would have been appropriate if on the evening of 9-11-01 when Palestinians danced in the street it we walked a string a GBU24(2000lb)bombs down the street. I'm sure the Israelis would have approved and, having gotten everyone's attention with that, continue to give our enemies(jihadists)airborne death in numbers that would've made biblical pale in comparison. Seems to be the only message they understand. Worked on the Germans and Japanese, and they're our strongest allies today. Sometimes the simplest things are best, and cheapest.
Ha! LOL -These are moderates, you're right. They know how to "just get along," I'm sure. If only some of our courageous Dems had led by example; and rushed over there to negotiate with those moderate Tali's, they could have talked some sense into them and stopped this fortuna-, er, I mean unfortunate*cough* loss of life. (Hey- if those Navy Seals aren't too busy popping pirates, maybe they could go enter the negotiations).
Your comment reminds me of the good ol days during the first Gulf War where we mercilessly decimated the retreating Iraqi army from Kuwait. The arabs dubbed this bloodletting the Highway To Hell.

With the enemy sueing for "peace", the only response the Pakis should be giving them are more bombs. The only way to end a guerilla war is with a scorched earth policy. Save what civilians you can, after that the sad truth is that they will become collateral damage. I know how this sounds and frankly don't care. I have fought these animals and know that the only thing that they understand is overwhelming force. I'm past tired of watching PC wars. JUST FIGHT THE ANIMALS TIL NONE ARE LEFT.

Truce is only good for one thing: Rearming for the losers. No more PC war, WIN!!! But we have to draw the line at water-boarding people! Right? We do have standards and wouldn't want them to experience any discomfort. Kill the terrorist and then splash water in their face.

The World should be standing up to the Taliban! Sharia law is no joke for the people that live under it. Do you want an acid bath for going to school little girl? How about a little removal of the hands for speaking in english young man? Oh no Burka thats good for 35 lashes with a cane, if not death.

One of the above outcomes resulted in lasting peace. The other resulted in continued hostility.
Which is precisely the Quranic definition of 'truce (hudna) '- the only sort of 'peace' with infidels (us) which is permitted.

Time to review the protocols for dealing with fallout on South Korea coming from up north. We have neither the time nor resources to adequately protect the South Koreans by conventional means from a full-blown offensive, and with over 48 million people the death toll will be catastrophic if we hesitate at the first sign of NK activity.
Outcome 2 is China takes over NK "for the greater good."
You must also be cautious of white flags. That either simplifies or complicates the conflict, depending on your level of realistic pragmatism.
