Daily Gut: Did
by Greg GutfeldSo, like you, I enjoy the series “24,” which follows a man trying to save the United States from its enemies, using any means possible. And within one complete day, he succeeds.
Of course, in real life this is impossible – it’s what we call fantasy.
But, not anymore. Today if such actions occurred it real life, it would simply be called criminal.
Because it has… and it was.
Earlier today President Obama said charges might be brought against those evil Bush lawyers behind the just-released memos justifying the harsh interrogation techniques used against folks who wanted to blow up our country. Or more specifically, blow up Los Angeles.
Which is why I brought up “24.” Not only is it about this sort of thing, it’s made in Los Angeles, a place that might have been totally screwed, if it weren’t for those evil lawyers. Writing in the Washington Post, Marc A. Thiessen refers to a memo noting that “enhanced techniques” led to the discovery of a Second Wave attack determined to crash an airliner into the Library Tower, the tallest building on the west coast. Thiessen writes that the info culled using these interrogations led to the arrest of those in charge of attempting this attack.
Now, Thiessen was once a Bush speechwriter, but that doesn’t take away from his point: that although Obama released memos revealing the interrogation techniques, what those actions actually achieved is blacked out.
And that’s the scary part. Usually what goes on behind the scenes is what keeps us alive. Now we know, however, that not only does our President find that sort of thing distasteful – as a consequence, he’s open to sharing this info with everyone.
Except the part where it says it works.
Jack Bauer is officially dead.

A 9/11 style attack in Los Angeles may have been prevented, but at what price? America has lost it's "moral compass", as Obama says. But it's not too late to fix the damage we've done to our souls. As a bold demonstration to the International Community that we will NEVER sacrifice our principles for the sake of a few thousand American lives, 3000 Californians must immediately saw off their own heads. Since the progressives have been most vociferous in opposition to the cruel practice of moistening terrorists, I am sure they'll be the first volunteers to help us set things right again. Arianna Huffington is probably already digging through her silverware for a steak knife.
This torture thing is the proverbial briar patch. If the Democrats really want to go down this road, I'm not sure that it would be in the long term political interests of Conservatives to try and stop them. If they want to put aged and confused Pat Leahy front and center, more power to them. He ain't Obama.
RIP Jack Bauer
Down this path lies danger. The end to what's left of the Rpublic.
I have no idea how you could charge a lawyer for giving advise to the government? What's the charge? This sounds like Obama trying to satisfy his hate-filled constituents with words that can't be translated into action.
Still, even the suggestion is INCREDIBLY stupid: (1) now his own lawyers will be reluctant to give advice on anything that can get them into trouble, and (2) foreign governments will be less willing to share information with the US. Thus, his access to information and his ability to get advice will be severely limited. This will particularly hurt him in unconventional situations.
Good luck fighting those pirates now big boy. Hope you don't need advice on how far you can go.
Liberals win the ultimate Darwin Award….
Message to the average liberal in LA…once you are dead, you really wont have to worry about your car, your mortgage or anything else ever again! Just saying.
Let the political show trials begin! Welcome to Leninland!
For the first time in my adult life…I am ashamed of my President…… (Sound Familiar) ??
I agree on the content but not the analogy. 24 has been dead for a while, but this season was the last nail in the coffin. Janeane Garofalo and a terror threat caused by Blackwater … give me a break.
Well said. As LIncoln is supposed to have said, and as Justice Jackson reiterated, "The Constitution is not a suicide pact." Obama and Holder are planning to erode that concept by going after the Sixth Amendment and Article II, bringing in "assisted suicide" in small doses.
Obviously, lawyers are entitled to a legal opinon unless it becomes popular. Using this logic, OJ would have been stripped of council first time around. Oh, wait, he was an African-American. Different rules.
The same way the left has been doing it since the Warren Court. Find a new umbra, penumbra, or emanation from the Constitution, announce that the corresponding rule has always been there and you just missed it, cite foreign law, and proceed to trial.
I am hoping that they waste JG in a future episode.
My friend, you're alive! We thought the last Garofalo article drove you over the edge.
I have no doubt they can make up some charge against the lawyers, but it will have no legal value. But you and I know that's not the point. The point is to torture them by putting them into fear of being convicted and then making them expend huge amounts of legal fees to defend themselves from utterly baseless charges.
Personally, I'd countersue the lot of them for slander — and I'd bring in Eric Holder as an intervening party. He approved some of those memos. See how Obama likes that.
That's why they call them political show trials. If the law had anything to do with it, they would be real trials, with things like evidence, proof, witnesses under oath, a legal code to follow, and all the rights, protections, privileges and immunities which the real legal system has provided, more or less, since 1789.
I'd be happy if we could just get Holder declared an unindicted co-conspirator. It tends to take the wind out of politician/prosecutors' sails.
This entire torture memo thing is going to get nowhere fast. I just read a post on 'The Corner" at NRO from Clifford May that says Adm. Dennis Blair, Obamas Director of Nat'l Intel. sent around a private memo last week that says the "enhanced" methods have produced vital intelliegence. Bammyites may try to play this as more 'We ain't Bush" booshwah but when your own people in the know are contradicting your own spin machine it's "arrivederci newsworthiness". Not even Gara……Hawk, now relax, I didn't say it, didn't finish it, stay calm, remember your BP, I wasn't thinking, just typing too fast. Whew. I'll be looking for ya' sometime between 4-5 am EST.
If they're going to do a show trial, they should do it in California. You guys have a knack for blowing trials way out of proportion. And they should make everyone wear the English wigs.
I would absolutely do my best to snag Holder and whoever else is currently in the administration. You're right about that sucking the wind out of the prosecution's sails.
Now I know how those Bush Derangement Syndrome folks felt. Like I wake up every morning in Bizarro world.
Do what must be done, fighting terrorism is a lot like making sausage, it taste very good but, you do not want to know how it's made.
This is how left wing politics works. Liberals are all righteous and good, so it's ok to politicize everything, from the private choice of eating trans fats to the classified files of the CIA. Spin it, embellish it, or completely lie, as long as our political heroes who know what's best for us make their power play on the electorate for as long as possible.
Okay, I just have to tell you all (y'all for you Texans) that I was just over at Huffpo and I must say, they are a bunch of humorless drones. Not one amusing post!
PS I had some fun being a anti-troll.
Do you mean I'm not supposed to wear this wig all the time?
Will there be chorus girls and glitter?
This was always about politics, never about the law. There are too many people in too many positions of political power on both sides of the aisle for this ever to be more than a newspaper headline. The Obamists know that if they actually sell out national security for the sake of political expediency they will pay a price at the poll booths that they could never survive. But their bull in a china shop approach to law enforcement and national security will undoubtedly cause some serious harm anyway. I'm willing to bet that at least a few genuine CIA agents will be outed during the process, and I'm not talking about desk jockies like Valerie Plame. Obama and his gang will do anything to look upright, and a hole or two in national security wouldn't bother them one bit if it gives them the appearance of "doing the right thing."
I saw a sign from a tea party that said: "for the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm AFRAID for my country." I think that message can be applied not only to the economic mess but our new national security "methods".
Leftists, the people who feel victimized by the very language they speak and the air they breath, don't have a sense of humor? No way! Maybe you caught them in an off-millennium. Wait till they start rounding people up, that will put them in a better mood.
Nice work on the anti-trolling by the way. You've probably sent a thousand little liberals into therapy. The American Psychiatric Society will put a little something extra in your paycheck this week.
Ah. . . no. Only when you appear in British court. And the wig is supposed to be white and powered, not long, blond and curly.
You've never been to a political show trial. First the gray bureaucrats give their reports. Then the gray waiters serve cold porridge. Then the gray judge finds the defendants guilty, sometimes after a gray defense, but usually only after a gray prosecution reads a gray brief. It is so gray that it would be a waste of time to film it in color. The defendants don't have to be executed, they die of boredom before the whole thing is over. If capitalism had no other virtue, it would at least have the honor of being in color.
Liberals like to cdelebrate the "gray" areas of moral relativism, Don 't they.
Screw you, Price, I'm wearing it anyway. Ya know, I was actually involved in an exchange program with some Australian lawyers. I got a free trip to Australia, and I got to assist counsel while wearing a wig (it's more abbreviated than the British model). We were later having a discussion on conducting witness examination. I started to tell them about how I prepare a witness. The room got silent, and I was getting looks like I was describing how to bribe a witness and suborn perjury. I had jet-lagged my memory and forgot that under the British system, you don't prepare witnesses, period.
Will you at least lose the plaid zoot suit?
For Obama this is a win-win situation. If (when) we are attacked again, he can blame it on Bush. After all, the liberals have been floating the idea for quite a while that if you stand up to terrorists, you just create more terrorists. If you ignore them, like Clinton did, the terrorists get bored and go home. I know that sounds silly, but it's what Obama and the liberals are passing off as a "new tone" in foreign policy. Get ready for the fireworks.
I replaced that with a beautiful forest green polyester leisure suit years ago.
true that…well said !!!
What did you log in there as…….
Did they speak Austrian there…….
Say not again the name of the loathsome beast G666. I have low friends in high places, and the utterance of the name of the beast in public again shall bring forth my wrath in apocalyptic fashion. You have been warned!
What Obama should have said to Chavez:
"But I'm going to be honest with you. I don't like you, probably never will. You're a smug unhappy little man and you treat people like they were idiots."
Apologies to TOMMY BOY
So, let me see if I have this right. NO TORTURE. None, nope, nein. However, dropping bombs on Palis in their homes where their wives and children are, OKAY? Hmmmm. Why does this seem somewhat off? Plus, I have to say it, I have lived through torture, experienced the real kind, and what's in those memos, that's not real torture.Trust me. I could tell tales that would make you have nightmares, even if you are Jihad Johnny. Waterboarding? Please. Try hours and hours of games with cigarettes and eyeballs, then we'll talk.
Oh dear God! I take it you also have the "matching" white platform shoes with the goldfish in them?
That's because the whole torture thing was just a slander made up to attack Bush.
Yes. And their second language is Grecian. I love our Presidents, they are so educational.
You know me better than that. They're piranhas.
Grecian? Formula or urn?
Very lawyerly. Scary, but lawyerly. I take it you've got a shark skin belt that matches?
Neither. It's Grecian the wheels of free trade.
Word. Greece that is. Greece is the word.
With my same name "BevfromNYC". What fun! They are so stupid. I was commenting on Sean Penn's article about the how wonderful it was to see a real President shake hands with Hugo Chavez. He is such a good friend of Chavez'. You have to read the comments! It's great!. There is a link on BH homepage.
Bingo AndrewPrice! I've come to the conclusion that most libs and especially the ones currently in power stand for very little. All this garbage they complained about Bush was just a means to get back into power. Obama is basically advocating a "surge" strategy in Afghanistan yet Obama was against that policy in Iraq when Bush was in charge. They stand for hardly anything. For some time now I've held the belief that had Gore been elected and we went to war in Iraq (which we most certainly would have) the Dems and media would be singing the praises of the great sucesses in Iraq. What's more instead of counting every dead American soldier as if they died for nothing we'd be hearing and reading about the amazing amount of dead terrorists as compared to our relatively low casualties. The Dems are so loathsome and lustful for power that they willfully undermined our foreign policy interests in order to seize power.
All this garbage about prosecting Bush now is just follwing the big lie to its logical conclusion. After all, they've been yelling about an "illigal war" for so long now that they'd look like if hypocrites if they didn't at least pretend they were going to do something about now. Now you get Obama who makes Bush's spending look like nothing, but somehow that's ok now. The sad thing is that it worked. A majority of Americans hate Bush and they don't even really know why. Iraq and Katrina are usually the ones a liberal will cite if pressed, and both those events were pure fabrication and propaganda as to how they were failures. Even the press will admit that all Bush really did wrong when it comes to Katrina was that he made a PR mistake by now immediately going to the cite. Yet somehow a "PR" mistake has been blown up to the point that most Americans think Bush somehow caused the hurricane.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is bothered by all of this "outing" of the past administrations "secrets and tactics" It seems as though this is what obama meant by being transparent. He's going to expose EVERYTHING that the past administration did but not his own. I hope he doesn't mind when the next administration does the same thing to him. Or will it even matter by that time.
Another great article from BH BTW.
"This is the life of illusion, wrapped up in trouble laced with confusion. What are we doing here?" "And how come these people talk so funny." Well, that pretty much sums it up.
It's just a diversionary tactic.
LET'S CONTINUE SHOUTING …… NO TO BAILOUTS, BIG GOVERNMENT AND SOCIALISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES TO TEA PARTY AND A MILLION MARCH TO WASHINGTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I could go back in time, I would tell Bush to not torture the terror suspects regarding the LA plot. After the attack was over, I would tell the President that he should ask all of Hollywood to thank him for "preserving our principles despite the cost."
I'm so hot and bothered that my original post got outed by BH (not BHO) admin.
*waving* goodbye to the next city or community devastated by terrorists….Tell Obama and his flying monkey brigade thank you !!
Well, Clinton didn't ignore them. We would've been better off if he had. Because he did something worse. He tried to prosecute them as criminals.
Mega mistake.
If you catch them, the trials go on forever getting bogged down with more and more appeals and the public loses interest. And frankly, who can blame them?
If you don't catch them, they'll naturally continue to plan and carry out attacks.
If you don't catch them and get caught trying, you end up with your people dismembered and dragged through streets LIVE on CNN. In all cases, the message is clear for such misguided methodology as Clinton employed: Hit us again, and keep on hitting.
This is a maneuver designed to drive non-liberals out of politics altogether. The criminalization of politics and political differences has been pushed by the left for many years. And here it comes.
We should not call them "Bush lawyers". They are Justice Department lawyers – appointees, I assume – who did their job giving legal advice. Treating them as criminals because the next administration doesn´t agree with their legal evaluation is not only unprecedented, it is a sure way to end up with a government unable to fulfill its constitutional duties even as it expands into every other aspect of your life.
All this does is provide more proof how utterly ideological, politicized, partisan and thuggish this administration is. They just can´t help it. We kept the Republic for two centuries but these jokers are apt to lose it.
I saw you over there and posted a reply, but because I was critical Sean the Pinhead my comment wasn't posted. But I read what you wrote. Bravo Bev, bravo. HuffPo doesn't allow criticism of their posters. Think threads like the Shillue/Konig discussions could ever take place their. Perfect examples of what the thought police are all about.
If you think about it, exchange "little" with "tall" and Chavez could've said that to Obama.
c'mon…we all now know Blackwater was just a stooge for something or someone much more sinister and powerful…prolly a former Vice President they will refer to as Darth Vader.
/s
It is rather odd that President Obama and the Democrat Party would leave their primary urban areas undefended; that's like killing your own voters.
I'm leaving NYC, I find no reason to remain paying the highest tax rate in America only to end up being blown to smithereens.
Liberalism is a luxury item which will kill you.
I have to say this once more; okay, I don't like it any more than you do that JG is part of the '24' cast this season, but as far as the 'Blackwater' company goes, don't pay too much attention to that. Don't forget Jonas Hodges's response to the FBI, asking them if they found any WMD's in one particular building, and then telling them they couldn't look anywhere else. Very reminiscent of the WMD situation in Iraq, I thought; Saddam told the UN inspectors "Here's where you can look, and here is where you can't look." It's the reason the more accurate statement is "No WMD's were found in Iraq," rather than "No WMD's exist in Iraq."
Personally, I can't stand that the producers of '24' are doing PSA's on global warming and touting how they're being carbon-neutral. My take on it, though, is that, like with a fictional Blackwater being to blame for the bioweapon, it's part of doing business in Hollywood; in order to keep your show going, you have to throw The Powers That Be the occasional bone. Take the good with the bad, I say.
Anyone want to give their guess on where the terrorists will hit next? Los Angeles? DC?
The only thing is, Darwin Awards are supposed to go to people who strengthen the gene pool by offing themselves in an incredibly stupid manner. My fear is that, in this case, the libs who appease and try to make nice with thugs and terrorists will take the rest of us out, in addition to offing themselves.
Your message to the avg. LA lib is reminding me of 'Aenima' by Tool, by the way. "Fret for your figure and fret for your latte and fret for your hairpiece and fret for your lawsuit…"
On a separate note, Mr. Gutfeld, I love 'Red Eye.' I watch it whenever I can.
So what you're saying is there will be no fried OREO's then. Damn! I LOVE fried OREO's!
Hilarious! I just showed TB to my son this weekend. Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?
"24" WAS STILL ON ?? WHOA !
Someone at lunch told me that they were doing public service spots during 24 for global warming info, how much has this show sold out anyway ? We usd to watch the whole year between Christmas and New Years, finding ourselves up at 3am wondering whether we should watch "one more episode"…..
Guess the sharkjumping days are here for the apologists at whatever network was responsible.
The liberals have made a major mess out of this country. They have bigger fish to fry than going after the ghosts of Bush's past in order to appease the angry left wingers. This country is off kilter, we look weak, and I fear a major catastrophe is waiting around the corner for us. I don't feel confident in the people running this country and if anything does happen, God forbid, I won't feel confident that they will be able to safely pull us through. Obama has not a clue what he's doing.
NH just elected a Republican handily over a Democrat to the senate. Perhaps this is the beginning of voters waking up. Let's hope so.
Now you owe me a keyboard too…..
Excellent points. Obama is in WAY over his head, on every level of leadership. Wasting time pandering to left-wing extremists by "prosecuting" members of the Bush administration is totally the worst thing this administration can do.
Unfortunately I think it'll take another 9/11 to wake people out of their Obama-love stupor….
My opinion only, but putting bad guys in the dunk tank to get information to save American lives is A-OK by me….
It is fun, isn't it? My posts were "being moderated" too, but I guess they really had no complaints since I wasn't calling the morons (or morans, as one of our trolls used) like I wanted to. It's a shame Huffpo is so humorless.
do you post as Dom Colangelo? If so, I will look for you.
Bev, in my reply to our post I got all up in Penn's face and called him a punk. Then I cut and pasted his own like about wimps playing tough guys and asked if anyone saw a resemblance. So they never put it up. These people are truly about the thought police. But when I'm at HuffPo I post as GSPatton1957, just because I'd rather have those toads wandering over here and starting up the same argument. And it is fun watching those people practically swallow their collective tongues when some puts real facts and reason in the face.
A couple quotes from Sun Tzu – Art of War, Chapter 12:
1. Sun Tzu said: Raising a host of a hundred thousand
men and marching them great distances entails heavy loss
on the people and a drain on the resources of the State.
The daily expenditure will amount to a thousand ounces
of silver. There will be commotion at home and abroad,
and men will drop down exhausted on the highways.
As many as seven hundred thousand families will be impeded
in their labor.
2. Hostile armies may face each other for years,
striving for the victory which is decided in a single day.
This being so, to remain in ignorance of the enemy's
condition simply because one grudges the outlay of a hundred
ounces of silver in honors and emoluments, is the height
of inhumanity.
3. One who acts thus is no leader of men, no present
help to his sovereign, no master of victory.
4. Thus, what enables the wise sovereign and the good
general to strike and conquer, and achieve things beyond
the reach of ordinary men, is foreknowledge.
5. Now this foreknowledge cannot be elicited from spirits;
it cannot be obtained inductively from experience,
nor by any deductive calculation.
6. Knowledge of the enemy's dispositions can only
be obtained from other men.
4. Thus, what enables the wise sovereign and the good
general to strike and conquer, and achieve things beyond
the reach of ordinary men, is foreknowledge.
5. Now this foreknowledge cannot be elicited from spirits;
it cannot be obtained inductively from experience,
nor by any deductive calculation.
6. Knowledge of the enemy's dispositions can only
be obtained from other men.
14. Hence it is that which none in the whole army are
more intimate relations to be maintained than with spies.
None should be more liberally rewarded. In no other
business should greater secrecy be preserved.
15. Spies cannot be usefully employed without a certain
intuitive sagacity.
19. If a secret piece of news is divulged by a spy
before the time is ripe, he must be put to death together
with the man to whom the secret was told.
27. Hence it is only the enlightened ruler and the
wise general who will use the highest intelligence of
the army for purposes of spying and thereby they achieve
great results.
You actually went on Huffpo? You are a brave, brave woman.
Did you see any pie though?
Waterboarding definitely isn't torture, in fact it's part of counter-interrogation training for some military units. If a government is willing to waterboard their own soldiers, then why the hell wouldn't they do it to captured terrorists because it was "torture" then? The liberal logic on this doesn't compute, unless they think it's perfectly fine to torture their own military but not the enemy, then again with liberal logic they may in fact think that.
As for the Palestinian civilians that had bombs dropped on their houses, I'm guessing you meant in Cast Lead. The thing is they received phone calls, and text messages from IDF telling them what areas were going to be bombed, it's called "roof knocking" and a way to limit civilian casualties. If they were still in their houses when the bombs fell they were either Hamas supporters, or were being held there by Hamas supporters. Sheikh Rayyan was one of the leaders of Hamas, a top target and he still even got a warning call because of how many wives and children he had, but he wouldn't leave or let his family leave. So it's not completely equivalent there, but your point on torture in general definitely stands.
Certainly is okay by me as well. Liberals………… kill innocent babies, but save the frogs and the terrorists. Go figure.
And just in case we could stomach the Blackwater bashing, we are treated to PSAs in support of the global warming hoax. Jack and Chloe must have been water boarded. I demand a full investigation!
When you are on a plane and realize you might be disintegrated into a building, or be-headed like a pig on camera, you might magically lose interest if a planned attacker (non-civilian or soldier) is tortured as a LAST resort to gain key info. The 'morality' game is nothing more than a ruse by biased people to convince themselves that God is watching and that they will go to heaven. It' adorable but it has no real place in the dirty real world that we live in. At least, not the fake morality that comes and goes as it pleases.
Oooo! can I have the plaid zoot suit? I have an expert witness appearance comming up and I want to look professional.
Sorry, I already donated it to Keith Olbermann.
"Yet somehow a "PR" mistake has been blown up to the point that most Americans think Bush somehow caused the hurricane. "
Of course he did! He stole Cobra's weather dominator to do it.
I think 24 has gotten better the past 2 episodes. First part of the season was not too good.
I agree, I am sick of NY and the BS. If only I could afford to move and start over…maybe there is something in the stimuLIE bill for relocating the hard working and fed-up.
"Jack Bauer is officially dead."
I must vehemently disagree. Jack Bauer is NOT dead.
He is currently in custody, awaiting trial for his crimes as a Right Wing Extremist.
Oh yeah! I've been making a list of some most excellent plots involving her demise.
I have 2 kids in DC and 1 in NYC…I'm sitting on pins and needles
BTW, Does "DID" mean Democrats In Diapers"?
If they don't "kill off" Genine Garofalo this season and stop the "green garbage", this will be the last season I watch. I'm going to write them a letter of my displeasure! In fighting these evil radical muslims "24" is how we should be operating!

What Obama is basically saying is he'd rather let an attack go through that kills american citizens then actually make the hard decisions to prevent an attack.
It must be above his pay grade.
if on 9/10 we had the 20th hijacker in custody and new an attack would happen in the next few days but didn't know where or when, and the 20th hijacker was sneering at our efforst and saying "You'll know soon enough" Obama's reaction would be….nothing apparently beyond the army field manual. Anything beyond that and we lose our souls. And the trade off is that he's willing to let American's pay the difference with their lives.
You both morons
No pie and waaaaaaay too humorless. We may be crazy wacked out Neo-Con idiots, but at least we have a sense of humor!! And pie…
You didn't get any smarter during the whole day it took you to come up with three words that don't even form a sentence. Which two? Lawhawk and Lincoln? RobertB and Lawhawk? Abraham Lincoln and Justice Jackson? They both morons? Another victim of the public schools.
I guess we are, since I don't have a clue who or what you're talking about. Do you? Provide verb, names, and points of discussion, please.
