ObamaCare: A Good Night For Tyranny
by Gary GrahamBut it was a bad night for Liberty.
Oh man. I didn’t want to write a blog today. Damn those Dems. (And a special F-U to you twits who voted them in.) A bad night for Liberty.

But it was a good night for Chicago politics. It’s nice to know some things never change; that back-room arm-twisting, extortion, blackmail, bribes, and pay-offs can still work wonders when applied judiciously by Leftists Speakers of the House, Presidents (and their hatchet men), and Senate leaders. Even ‘principled’ Democrats like pro-life Rep Bart Stupak folded like a proud jellyfish. (Any stupidly spineless act of Congress will henceforth be regarded as “a Stupak” as in, “Looks like those idiots on The Hill pulled another Stupak!”)
Yes, Lady Liberty took a serious kick in the teeth last night. The health care bill will put one-sixth of the U.S. economy in the hands of the federal government. But even worse than assisting further in the bankrupting of our economy, our freedoms are now seriously diminished.
We Americans became considerably less free last night.
I feel like apologizing to the ghosts of our forefathers for not doing more to preserve our liberties, the liberties for which they sacrificed so much.
I sat, like most caring patriots, and watched the news last night, appalled yet not surprised as Republicans held strong in opposition, and Democrat after Democrat caved and voted for the obscenely bloated and convoluted restriction on American freedom, known as the House Health Care Bill.
With a stroke of the pen, after the Senate votes, the President will now sign the bill into law. And millions more little piggies will sidle up to the public trough of American largesse. But it’s okay – you Americans won’t mind paying a little extra, will you?
After all, Nancy Pelosi reminded us all ad infinitum they’re doing it ‘for the American people’.
Considering that, by most available polls at least 75% of Americans were happy with their health care, the decision to completely dismantle and gut our entire health care industry to give free health insurance to less than 10% of the populace whether they want it or not, would seem to this writer a bit Draconian, to say the very least. And tack on to that that the new bill contains federally-funded provisions to pay for abortions as well as well as mandates to purchase insurance (as in, they are going to FORCE you to buy insurance – enforced by IRS agents)…and you pretty much have a huge leap forward down the rocky slope toward tyranny.
Guess we’re all Progressives now.
My prediction for the next six months? Full speed ahead for the Leftist European-Utopia Obama-Pelosi Marxist machine. They are energized now, having passed this monstrosity of a health care bill (even post-Scott Brown) and they know they will need votes in November if they are to maintain control of both houses of Congress. The simple solution: Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (oops, sorry, I mean ‘undocumented workers’. Don’t want to be politically incorrect.). That will be next up. Millions and millions of illegals will be welcomed in to the Democrat voting registers. (Hey, I’m legal now and the Dems will give me a bunch of free stuff?? Yeah, baby — Democrat all the way!)
“We just want to spread the wealth around, that’s all.” – Barrack Obama in his this-won’t-hurt-a-bit chat with Joe the Plumber.
And of course, Cap-and-Trade. The Global Warming Hoax is still alive in Leftyville (oops sorry again, Climate Change – how un-PC of me…) and there’s no time like the now to shackle what’s left of the U.S. economy with miles and endless miles of energy restrictions, mandates, fines, convoluted bureaucratic hamstringing guidelines and mindless procedural minefields for the American small businessman to navigate. But don’t complain – it’s all so we don’t lose the polar bears and caribou. I know it’s all true because Al Gore made a movie about it.
Someday I’ll sit on the porch with my daughter’s kids…and if I’ve outlasted the government death panels, I’ll tell them about America. The land of Liberty. It was lovely while it lasted.
But back to right now — So they’ve got their tentacles around our economy. Our banks. Our businesses. Our media. And now…our health.
Next up – they’ll come for our guns. A disarmed populace is so much easier to control, isn’t it? But then again…they seem to be doing a bang-up job without touching the second amendment. It seems we can keep our guns…we just have to give up our Freedoms.
Will America go quietly into that good night? Or is there fight in her yet?
Ironic, isn’t it? The people who pledged to unite America…have divided it to a point not seen since the Civil War.
The battle lines are drawn — not geographically, but ideologically. On the one hand we have the “progressives” – leftists who align themselves with other infamous Marxist tyrants who use the power of government to subjugate, tax, and control its populace. Leftists who use class- envy warfare and promise free goodies to parasitic masses who think the world owes them a living simply because they draw breath. Leftists, who are so arrogant as to believe that they are so wise that they are ordained and worthy of determining what remedies are best for our lives, and work around the clock to ram these down our throats — whether we want them or not – all under the log-line of “…doing it for working families…”.
But on the other hand, we have.. the American citizens. Free individuals who want to live, work, and raise their families without government intrusion; people who don’t think it’s right that they should work hard to provide goods and services for people who won’t work hard. People who believe that they alone are wise enough to figure out how best to spend their own hard-earned money. People who know that America was founded upon and excelled because of the principle of freedom and not subjugation. People who believe that solving one’s own problems and not looking to the government to solve them promotes prosperity, maturity, self-reliance, and in the end, happiness.
You know…people like you.

*sigh* Alas, Gary, I have no witty comments, biting sarcasm, humorous spin today. This one isn't funny. AT ALL. I feel so sad today, and so used. I came here from Canada to get away from the stifling grasp of socialism. I wanted to live in a country where expectations of what an individual could achieve were so high, only limited by one's own imagination. Now that the U.S. has jumped the shark, what will I do? Where do you move to when you already live in the greatest country in the world? *sigh* My goal now is to make as much money as I possibly can in the next few years so I can insulate myself and my family with dollar bills from the coming tyranny. *double sigh*
One more link in the chain that binds us all to an oppressive government.
I think it was Dennis Prager that said, "The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen"
We are smaller today.
As the eternal optimist, let me add the immortal words "it ain't over until it's over." We've just suffered a big loss in a major battle. Our first battle in WWII at the Kasserine Pass wasn't anything to crow about, and then they sent Patton in. And George Washington lost nearly every battle he fought, except the ones that counted. We've lost the First Battle of Capitol Hill. There will be plenty more to go before this war is over. I have faith in the American people and a now-fully energized conservative Republican caucus. This is one war we can't afford to lose, and I don't think we will. Now, if we can just find another Patton . . . .
well, at least the adult section of our forum weighs in…
And, of course, Hawk is right about this. Kasserine Pass? Maybe. Dunkirk could be more apropo. The larger point is this is abattle; not a war. And it doesn't get any easier from this point on. But that applies to them as well. And their coalition is frayed at he edges-
And afraid of the voter, too…
Gary, your side will never win until you realize that those with whom you have political disagreements are also American citizens who believe in this country and its consitution. As long as you continue to insist that everyone who disagrees with you — including, by the way, the majority of voters, who brought this administration into office — is a traitor, a Comunist, a Fascist, a Marxist or a foreigner out to destroy the nation, you will continue to lose the great middle who sees value in ideas on both sides.
Why not start from a different place — that liberals and conservatives, for the most part, want the best for the country, but disagree what that means? Why the imputations of bad fait — of evil?
Yes, it looks bad, but remember that the National Recovery Act, that juggernaut of the New Deal statist central planning, was found to be unconstitutional. So here's hoping that the Supreme Court shows some guts and smarts, and do the same to Obamacare.
Gary, i am sick and tired already of this man or the CHOSEN one and his band of thugs.. I hope that the PEOPLE that voted him in there finally realize that this GREAT COUNTRY is slipping away one bill at a time…
I'm beginning to think that John Derbyshire is right. Imperial feudalism is the natural state of humanity. Throughout history, there have been 100 oppressed people for every single 'free' man. American-style democracy is a bizarre, short-lived aberration; the human mind is simply not built for total freedom.
The lights are going out all over America. We shall not see them lit again in our lifetimes.
And remember, those of you who are still believers — God wanted this to happen. Fiat voluntas tua.
“This is the end of this business of centralization, and I want you to go back and tell the president that we're not going to let this government centralize everything."[
– Louis Brandeis, Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, to Harry Hopkins, FDR's aire (1935)
Well said!
Thanks for expressing how I feel.
There's not a lot that I can say here, well, that's probably not really true, but "in the bigger picture" we need to understand that the game hasn't changed. The other side scored and now we are on offense for a time. I hope and pray that we and our representatives (in and out of govt) use whatever legal and non-violent means available and necessary to do what now must be done.

I didn’t want to write a blog today.
That makes two of us, Moron
Mrs. Davis, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that the Shining City on the Hill has been set aflame by Democrats. Because you are right – where do we run to, where do we go? We were it. There is no place else to go.
But the good thing about that is this: We will be the anti-Alamo – we will fight as we did, our last stand – BUT WE WILL BE VICTORIOUS.
I despair a little with you as well, but I always hold out hope. It's not over yet. We can still bring this back from the brink . . . as long as we have elections.
LawHawk – you are right. I despair a little, but I remember it ain't over til the fat lady sings! One battle, that is all.
The War goes on and WE WILL BE VICTORIOUS!
Clearly you don't realize the sheer gift we have been given by our chosen one. You must know nothing about superb healthcare since 12,000 new IRS employees is an obvious prerequisite for cutting-edge, advanced beyond our years, healthcare reform.
Don't you have tables on which to wait?
I almost wish we could divide our population into three major classes. One class would be the know-it-alls who want to run everyone's lives. Another class would be those pathetic people whose lives are so fucked up that they actually *want* and *need* the first class to nanny them from cradle to grave. And the third class would be everyone else – the ones who are doing ok and want nothing to do with the other two. We'd have our own system, wherein the government is there when we need it but stays discreetly in the background when we don't. The way people are fighting these days, this may actually happen. Unfortunately, the geniuses and their helpless victim allies will outnumber the rest.
OK, instead of evil let's just call it severe delusion.
I agree that Dunkirk is a great example of recovery from a massive defeat. I chose the Kasserine Pass because it was our first major battle against the Nazis after America officially entered the war. Dunkirk occurred a little over a year before Pearl Harbor. And come to think of it, Pearl Harbor isn't a half-bad example as well. Just substitute Halsey and Nimitz for Patton.
I feel sorry for people like you wr1, you wanna know why? Because you are still under the impression that these azzwipes in office "want what's best for our country". Are you freakin' kidding us? Here's a dollar go buy a clue..Wait make that 20 dollars for hyper inflation.
Excellent points, all. I, for one, would rather die on my feet than live on my knees — in subservience to Obama's faux utopianist technocratic rulership. The only fit time for free individuals to be on their knees is in prayer, and that to God not supplication to government. Fortunately, we are not yet at that point of needing to die to restore the U.S. Constitution. We still have recourse to some of the remaining constitutional sources of authority for that restoration.
And, yes, "Stupak" can now go down as an insult — as in "he ain't got no balls he ain't even got a 'stupak'!"
Because it's not true, wr1, that's why. Whatever the Democrat Party was, it is no longer. It is peopled with statists who do NOT want the best for our country. They want to turn us into Western Europe (at best) and that is going down as quickly as we are.
The way they handled themselves for this vote shows they do not care – polls showed that Americans were not happy with the bills that were bandied about. Reform, yes. But not what they were putting out.
And they didn't listen. They pulled back door deals and all kinds of nonsense and that is how it passed – WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE.
It is PURE TYRANNY and nothing more.

You may be an American citizen on paper, wr1, but I do not recognize you. You know nothing of the Constitution nor the Founding Principles. You and your fellow statists have bastardized it to mean what YOU want it to mean, as long as it gives the gov't more and more power over the people.
Explain how a group of people that cry about a woman's decision to abort as a private decision, that her body is her own, would want to pass a bill that gives the power to the gov't over your health. You do realize that you have to have GOVERNMENT APPROVED INSURANCE, right? Which means, ultimately it will effect everything about your life, what you eat, whether you exercise, your children, etc?
How is that freedom, wr1?
You say these words above and it sounds to me like you are scared. Scared because you and your side woke the sleeping giant and she IS NOT HAPPY. And now you want to pretend like we are friends.
Well, we are not. You and your fellow statist citizens have sold us into slavery and now you want to make nice.
Forget it!
Oddly enough your administration is doing the exact opposite of what they ran on during the campaign. Most would call it LYING. The majority of the people that were fooled into voting for this hemroid didn't give him a pass to turn us into a modern day Nazi Germany by slowly, and painfully, striping us of all our freedoms.
Conservatives = Smaller government, less taxing, less spending, personal responsibility.
Liberals = Massive government, Welfare state, highest taxes, ridiculous spending and ZERO personal responsibility.
Because it is evil, you fathead! The majority of voters who voted for Obama were fooled. He lied to them and they bought the lies. He's still lying to them and us. He hates this country as it is and will change it, if he can, into a European Socialist democracy with the majority of its citizens dependent on the federal government for their very sustenance. Get your head out of your ass and look around. The America you were born into going down the drain.
Jake, it was only recently that I realized why so many people have a problem with the Constitution, with America, with freedom.
The whole thing is really THAT radical that the majority of people on this planet cannot comprehend it and cannot handle the responsibility, including some of our fellow Americans.
But I will not give up. The Shining City on the Hill as been set aflame by statists, but we need to gather ourselves together and start a water line and put the fire out. It will not be easy. But we lasted this long, I say we can last even longer.
Do not despair for long, my friend, my countrymen.
WE WILL PREVAIL!
ladykrystyna: It's not easy to recover from a defeat like this, but it would be the worst possible time to go weak in the knees. When I saw that first vote hit 216 last night, I felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. But, a knockdown is not a knockout, and as you said, we will be victorious.
Don’t sweat it Gary, we have them right where we want them fully exposed. We’ve held this Marxist creep off for 14 months. We have only just begun to fight!
I'd like to add another term to the government lexicon:
The New Stasi – defined as the hoards of IRS agents sent to check up on Americans who don't have the individual health insurance mandate.
—-
"For true patriots to remain silent, is dangerous." Samuel Adams
"A little freedom died today…" Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.)
70% of Americans support public health care. You all make my stomach turn.
Kit, I'm not under any delusions. I agree with them. Well, not entirely — I believe we need a strong public option to make the health care bill complete. But this is exactly what I'm talking about — if you refuse to understand your opponents, you can't debate them and are reduced to hurling insults. Sure, that can be fun when you're mad, but if you want to win you have to sway the middle. And if my side can explain what a bill will do, how it will be paid for, and why it's essential, and your only response is to toss a couple of misspelled expletives, you're out of the conversation. You want to be taken seriously by the electorate? Start acting seriously.
My skins crawls every time I hear, or read, a lib talking about how they "just want the best for this country." If that were anywhere close to being true then they wouldn't be a liberal in the first place!!!
Since Obama is dead-set on destroying the economy and killing jobs, I guess it's safe to assume next on his agenda is to legalize all illegals since working class Americans surely won't (if they have any functioning braincells, anyway) be voting for him again.
The consent of the people is not weighed by popularity polls. It is measured by elections. And elections, as Republicans have been so quick to say for so long, have consequences. You think you've got a majority against the Dems? Great, vote us out. But don't start claiming that democracy has been overhrown simply because you didn't get your way. It doesn't work like that.
And really, all you're saying is that you don't recognize me as an American citizen because I don't agree with you. I don't think you'll find that anywhere in the constitution.
He may not be Patton, but we have gotten Paul Ryan out of the deal.
Bwaahaahaaa! Make the FORTY dollars so you buy TWO clues. I'm out of the conversation because YOU say so? I don't think so pal, go take a long hike off a short pier, it may do you some good.
FYI, I misspelled deliberately. Of course we couldn't hope to have a lefty mouth breather understand the REAL thinking people of this country.
What is Obama doing that is the oppostie of what he ran on? I seem to recall that health care reform was one of his major issues.
And I'm really sorry if you can't tell the difference between regulations of health insurance companies and the systemic murder of entire classes of human beings. Most people can, and they're not goint to take seriously anyone who keeps insisting that Obama is secretly Hitler.
I'd guess you didn't vote for Obama, and therefore I'd suggest you are not the best spokesperson for those of us who did.
We're also not going to take seriously someone who throws out FALSE accusations/allegations such as yours. "Systemic murder of entire classes of people"? Wow you'd better step away from the obama kookaid. I misspelled that wrong on purpose too.
Guess we’re all Progressives now.
I'm progressively coming to the conclusion that Washington needs to be burned to the ground. Is healthcare a right? If the answer is yes, then why do we have to pay for it? This is the first time I've heard of a right having to be purchased via government mandate. Will we have to buy our right to free speech next? How about our right to a speedy trial by a jury of our peers?
Maybe next it will be our "right" to own a GM car or bank at whatever "too big to fail" banks the government decides to take over.
This country has been undergoing a slow, painful death for a while now. It's almost time to administer last rites.
And you DO need a "spokesperson" don't you. Because you can't think for yourself you need a leader to lead you. Like I said, I feel sorry for you.
But I guess that's the point, isn't it? Nobody got "their way". Its not a bill that offers universal coverage, as most people on the side of reform hoped, and it doesn't increase prosperity for Americans, as people on our side want. And it was reached using a highly suspect and deceptive process. If this were just a straight up or down vote based on what the majority of Americans want, I would surely agree with you when you say "don't start claiming that democracy has been overhrown simply because you didn't get your way." But this was just so underhanded. But, as you pointed out, elections do have consequences. Many Republicans and conservatives stayed home for mid-terms and generals this last go-round because of their disappoint with the Republican party and their resolve. Well, they are all reaping what they sowed. I couldn't agree with you more on that point.
I like the way you lefty's throw out the constitution when it works FOR you. When it's not working for you you trample all over it. Typical.
You're a liar and not a very good one at that.
We've all been "numbers" to the government for a long time, and that's all we are to these people who voted for this monstrosity.
Evidently:
Where in the hell do you get your numbers? Media Matters? Daily Kos? CNN? Huff Po? I believe that 70% support serious healthcare reform, but if you think 70% of Americans support public healthcare, you are nose deep in medical marijuana.
The majority of the US believes this bill is a mistake. You will see just how true those words are in the upcoming election in November.
70% of Americans support health care reform. That's not the same thing as "public health care" by a long shot. There are plenty of villains on both sides of the debate. The public wants the issues of cancellations, denial of coverage, pre-existing conditions and insurance competition resolved. The answer isn't government control of the market. "One size fits all" results in a bad fit for most. If that makes your stomach turn, I'd suggest you make an appointment with a public health service where you will be misdiagnosed by the marginal graduate of a marginal medical school who couldn't get through the training at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
There are plenty of delusional folks on the left who think the American public was angry simply because the bill "wasn't socialist enough."
You want to talk "systemic murder of entire classes of human beings", then lets talk about that. I don't believe for one moment there is a "murder" going on, much less a systemic one. People die. That is a fact. This trash will not make dying go away. In fact, looking at Canada, it might speed the process up some. There is your "systemic murder". Waiting 3 months for a cancer screening, or YEARS for a transplant all the while languishing on dialysis or life support, at least until some faceless bureaucrat says you are costing too much money. Sounds like a fucking paradise.
The only kind of "reform" the left can imagine is the kind where the government becomes intimately involved in all of our lives. Rules, regulations, fees, taxes… those are "reforms" to a person on the left.
Increasing competition and allowing citizens to exercise their freedom of choice when making decisions? That doesn't count for some reason.
That which does not kill us… is merely postponing the inevitable.
That's fine.
I don't want to be them when the "numbers" are against you.
Opposites? I've got a whole list of things with regard to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Patriot Act, etc. Or were those things only important when they were used by Democrats to bash Bush?
How about transparency? Posting bills for the public to read? Ending partisanship? Not having lobbyists work for him?
Obama is just another politician, buddy. He and Bush are more similar than most folks are willing to admit, but you go right on deluding yourself that this is "change" we can believe in.

You'll have a porch?
People should be talking about turning this defeat into something positive. I think the new battle cry should be, "Civil Disobedience." If 73% of the people disagree with Obamacare, then let's stay organized and refuse to participate. Are they going to lock up 73% of the population? Obama's Justice Department can't even figure out what to do with 200+ terrorist at an island prison. How are they going to lock up 200 million Americans?
I'm not so sure we will be victorious. I just see so many people who want to have my tax money pay their way through life. I see our "representatives" bribing each other with our taxes to take away more of our liberties. And I know that once these liberties are taken away, they won't be granted back freely, at least not in full. I don't really think if the Repubs gain power in Congress that they will repeal this horrible law and restore our liberty. Even if they did, can you see Obama signing that bill? Ha.
Bad news, wr1, the hypoxia from having your head that far up your backside has completely destroyed your brain. The "middle" as you like to call them are the same people who call themselves "moderates" and imagine themselves to be more thoughtful about all the issue when talking to them invariable proves they are indecisive, largely because they are clueless. I don't care about the "middle" or Illiberals/Regressives/Secualr-statists because they are not the people who made the country the great place it was. Conservatism, capitalism, freedom, personal responsibility, etc., did that. Liberals (complete misnomer) do not want what is best for the country unless by best you mean minimal freedom, a minimal living standard, and bread and circuses. Get a clue. I see the ante, below, has been upped to $20. You're a lemming.
Mark your calendar with these historic dates for upcoming legislation.
April 15 – Wall Street reform(passed in the Senate Banking Committee today)
April 22 – Cap and Tax
May 5 – Immigration Reform also known as the Supplemental Socialism Assurance Act
July 4 – Repeal of the 2nd Amendment
Sept 6 – Big Labor Day (Paid holiday for SEIU, AFL-CIO and all other union members paid by a special tax which was collected by the IRS on April 15th or if not paid automatically withdrawn from your account)
Dec 25 – (formerly known as CHRISTmas) Obamas Day
Dec 26 – (formerly known as the day Mao was born) Obamao Day
Stay tuned to the FOX Report with Shep Smith for coverage on how irrational the TEA Party/Conservatives/Republicans react to these historic events.
Personal note to Shep. First, F U. Second. Check your own networks tape of Jerry Rivers aka Geraldo speaking with Sharpton last night. That shouldn't be to difficult if you have any shred of credibility left…then get back to all of us who are outraged. Punk!!!
Yes. I know. Spelling, grammar and punctuation. Whatever. I have blood spewing from my eyes.
Probably not. Most actors I know like to consider themselves victims of capitalism and the sit home complaining that they don't have jobs.
But it's good for them. They have all the time in the world for the six hour wait to see a doctor for their herpes meds. Yayyyy! Of course, with the system we have now, they would only have to wait about half an hour at most. But … oh well it's freeeeeeee!!!
new flash: your "need" is not a blank check you can draw on my life, liberty or property.
And by the way, I don't have health insurance. And not because I don't want to, but my employer can't afford it and neither can I. Oh, and I take 3 medicines daily for high blood pressure as well as one anti-depressant. But you know what? I believe it's wrong to stick my hand in YOUR pocket to pay for something I need.Too bad you're not willing to extend the same courtesy to your fellow citizens.
"And I'm really sorry if you can't tell the difference between regulations of health insurance companies and the systemic murder of entire classes of human beings."
What part of THE STATE WILL NOW BE SUBSIDIZING THE MURDER OF AN ENTIRE CLASS OF HUMAN BEINGS (the unborn) do you not understand???!!
WR1 – which Constitution are you referring to? Have you read it?
For those of you talking about how sad you are get off your sad butts and focus yourselves. This administration is tightening their own noose – pride goeth before a fall, and the higher the false sense of superiority and power, the harder the fall. It should be a spectacular one.
one more thing WR1 – Obama clearly stated before being elected he had no respect for the Constitution – the one you haven't read. He could not have been clearer about that, his rabid pro-abortion stance and voting record, or his anti-Christian rants in his "Call to Renewal" speech. Go read that, then go read our Constitution – still proud and strong after being spat on by your party.
I have the feeling that we will never get to vote these thugs out of office. They have the pedal to the metal and an ace in the hole, martial law.
The census questions and ACS should give you some idea of far the IRS (when they're hired) will be crawling up your ass in search of everything about you. Start with not filling in the form, having census takers stop by and then informing them of your refusal to answer questions other than how many live in the house. Be sure to take pictures (movies would be better) have your copy of the Constitution on hand, get names and credential numbers to document what will certainly be outright intimidation by a nascent fascist organization. I will not go silently into tyranny.
Good.
If it was such a great piece of legislation, why the need for so many deals? Justify preferential treatment of the unions. You can't, and that is just one example of corruption. I respect you for at least being up front about your political affiliation. If you want your finances redistributed, post your pin and send me your debit card. Better yet, I will put you on installment program. Here is how it works. For the next three years, you give me a percentage of your pay, at the end of that three years I will allow you to purchase insurance from me. I promise it will be available. Now just to be upfront, you should know that I am living beyond my means. Sometimes I go over budget to the tune of about 1.4 trillion dollars in any given year. But I have a great rate on that debt…I think it runs about 500 billion annually. Seriously, don't worry about that though. I can implement a scheme to charge people a VAT…
It's particularly entertaining from someone who has the audacity to say this, too:
'Ironic, isn’t it? The people who pledged to unite America…have divided it to a point not seen since the Civil War'. That abstract concept of 'personal responsibilty' doesn't include any degree of self-awareness, it seems.
You've got to wonder what people such as the author of the article will do when their flaky propaganda turns to dust. None of their 'predictions' have the slightest chance of becoming reality, so where next for them? Eyes down, kids, because it looks like we'll just have to make this a good, old-fashioned abortion debate. Hey, it's already started…
Thank you. I was beginning to think that nobody noticed.
God and our Founders gave us a republic, a Constitution and freedom. But they never said it's all for free. Nor did they say no one would ever work to take it from us.
So, now we fight.
How about roads? Fire departments? Police departments? Schools? Sorry, I choose to live in a civilization, not a state of barbarism ruled by whoever can grab power., which is what you would have if we all refused to let anyone "stick their hands into our pockets."
By the way, I opposed the invasion of Iraq. I guess I shouldn't have to pay for that, rigfht?
This bill was debated for a year. It passed the senate with a supermajority of 60 votes and the house with a clear majority. I'm not sure how you can characterize this as suspect and deceptive, unless it's because Rush said so.
All of it.
"Is healthcare a right? If the answer is yes, then why do we have to pay for it? This is the first time I've heard of a right having to be purchased via government mandate."
So, um, who should pay for roads, schools, the military, emergency services, and a sewage system…magic?
If you don't believe health care is a right we're just going to HAVE to agree to disagree. But there are other things in this country that I guarantee you think of as a "right" that everyone is in fact paying for.
that is next! amnesty for illegals. he needs votes for re-election. this is a nightmare. get your ammo ready!
C-girl — I agree it's hard to find any optimism today. But remember — we're talking putting CONSERVATIVES in Congress. (RINO's need not apply!) That's how we do it, by electing people with backbone who will stand up for the Constitution. 2010, we can only hope to stop the bleeding. Our crushing triumph will come in 2012, when Big-O's presidency has been revealed to be the abyssmal failure that all reason knows it to be. And as Davi suggests — we need Conservative LIONS. Patience, dilligence, vigilance, steeled nerves…and with the Truth. This is how we defeat them. God bless America.
Yes, we need to put conservative \”lions\” in Congress, but just where are they? I'd gladly vote for them, but, living in California, I haven't seen any lately. Only animals out here are the RINOs; just look at the \”Governator.\” I'm feeling discouraged that we will ever have any \”electable conservative\” in this liberal political-muck-hole of a state.

What a poignant comment, mrsmdavis. I'm sadder today and tired, too.
But you still are in America. It's always been different here, and I am counting on that difference now. The Constitution was authored for times like these.
I'm with you, Marc.
And the fact that O publicly humiliated the Supremes at the State of the Union speech probably won't hurt the cause.
I don't think that many people are cheering this bill.
I'll have a porch. The government just mandated the American right to a porch. You will pay for it. Thanks.
I think Kasserine Pass is a greta example other than the obvious fact that Dunkirk was a British failure. Leading up to Kasserine the American army was saddled with bad leaders, outdated equipment , no real training in modern war and allowed themselves to be spread out all over the place with no thought to actually having to fight an enemy. After the defeat the General hiding in his bunker way in the rear was replaced by a frontline General ( Patton), the equipment was replaced with a new urgancy, more time was spent on training new troops and officers before sending them to the front lines and the battle groups were moved into mutually supporting distances. Which is what we have to do, replace the RINO's, update our message, train our young people, and consolidate our power base.
i do not know if i would call 4 votes the first time and 7 the second a clear majority
working in a school play does not make you an actor. Whatever you may think of Mr. Graham he is on here using his name to make a statement about his beliefs. And you want to do a surf-by post calling him a moron? Try using your name or at least something besides a throwaway account to make a statement and i might have more respect for you
ha ha. come on wr1, how does it not make sense to you that there can be a whole bunch of human beings that were never born? It's like you're saying there's a difference between fetuses and infants which necessitates distinct terms, like that one exists inside of another human being and one doesn't.
You're obviously smart enough to know that you'll never convince these people, so I'm guessing you just take perverse joy in pissing them off.
Sorry, i do not think of roads, schools, etc as a right. They are something you use, so you help maintain it. but with this health care bill even if i do not use a hospital or a doctor i still have to pay for YOU, to use it and that is wrong. and before you give me some line about not everybody uses roads or schools, etc. Sorry at some point you have used a road or gone to school.
John Adams is rolling in his grave! WHAT did the founders sacrifice for??? It IS an outrage! Ropes & chains for hope & change! Welcome to the USSA (United Socialist States of America)
Even Sotomayor looked pissed off.
The photos of Pelosi laughing after the bill was passed made me want to throw a tomato at her mug. So I made this poster: http://www.cafepress.com/ppenguin.437406656

You own my favorite post of the day.
I wish I could grant you more than one thumbs-up.
This is the Battle of Hoth at best and the REVENGE OF THE SITH at worst. But, in the end, the Rebellion won at the forest moon of Endor.
I like it!
Want to stop all this immediately?
WE SHOULD ALL REFUSE TO PAY
OUR INCOME TAX. If millions of Americans
refused collectively, what could the feds do?
A dream perhaps… but it makes me feel warm
and cozy inside.
That too!
As the Duke said "Our turnin' back don't mean nothin'."
This is a set-back. A big one. The Republic can recover, if we wish it to and we work for it.
Last night, we the people got our ass kicked. Today we got up. The word that best fits our situation is from a film about America getting up after a bloody, oppressive assault.
"WOLVERINES!!!!!!!"
No…Suspect and deceptive because of despotic parliamentarian tactics like an deem/pass, reconciliation for something that Congressional rules do not allow it to be used for, and unconstitutional provisions which will be challenged in court.
And then, of course, we have the marvelous words of Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings "when the deal goes down, all this talk about rules, we make ‘em up as we go along." This would be the same Alcee Hastings who was arrested on charges of accepting a bribe from the Mafia and, subsequently, impeached by the House of Representatives, convicted by the U.S. Senate on the bribery charges, removed from office, and disbarred.
Sorry, but learn a little math. Fifty percent plus one is a majority.
Deem/pass, a parliamentary procedure to which you had no objection when the Republicans used it over 100 times, was not actually used in this bill, although the possibility of using it had been discussed.
As for Alcee Hastings, as you point out, he was no longer in the House when this bill came up. You might as well blame its passage on a criminal like Tom Delay.
