It’s Morning-After In America
by Gary GrahamI awoke this morning with a splitting headache. As I staggered to the bathroom I blew past the mirror without a glance, fearful of the report. I hadn’t felt this awful since I can’t remember when. Though memory eluded me as to the details, I was certain that I had tied on the Mother of All Benders. As I stared blearily into the commode bowl, I studied it disinterestedly for any and all evidence my stomach contents may have divulged as to just what the hell had happened the previous night.
Nothing came to me but more questions. Satisfied that no further gastric contributions could tell the tale, I rose from the bathroom floor, shrugged unconvincingly and hit the flusher. What a perfect way to end unseemly encounters. Flush them.
I proceeded to weave an unsteady trail down the hallway in the general direction of a coffee pot. My daughter had arisen before me and FOX News was already drifting in from the other room; Bill Hemmer recounting the latest on the decision to move the admitted 911 terrorists to NYC for trial.
And then it struck me like a wet trout.
Why – I hadn’t been drinking the night before at all! This was no hangover! This was Bizarro-World 2009 (or as some call it, the Barrack Obama Presidency) — in full flower!
Recovering from the jolt of reality that had knocked coffee grounds everywhere, slipping and sliding on them I staggered into the living room to stare at the TV screen. Yes, it was coming back to me like a recurring bad rash – the Commies had taken over as America slept. And we were all out of 2% cortisone cream.
As the inebriative disorientation of an Obama reality continued to blur my vision, I recounted some of the more recent national realities.
Emergency stimulus bills – $800 billion in spending, cash-for-clunkers, tax cheat cabinet, Marxist czars, quadrupling the national debt within 10 months…and as Communist China lectures us about deficit spending and fiscal responsibility…Obama pushes hard for a socialized medicine bill that will cost taxpayers at least two trillion dollars, nationalize one-fifth of the U.S. economy, and drive insurance companies, hospitals and doctors bankrupt, leading to rationed health care and a gross decline in research and overall quality of medicine.
But I don’t want to rush to judgment. It’s only been ten months, give the guy a chance.
Huh!!????
And in the We-don’t-rush-to-judgment category… Major Hasan’s shooting spree at Ft. Hood that left 13 dead and 30 wounded seems to have the mainstream media baffled. It seems he must’ve been a nut. He must’ve been tormented by fellow soldiers for his religious views. He must’ve been a victim of the system…who simply snapped. And we don’t want to rush to judgment that he may have been a Muslim jihadist murderer terrorist, dead square in our midst, at the largest Army base in the country…that simply wanted to kill as many Americans as possible for his jihad, for his Allah. Gee, sure didn’t send up any red flags…even with the bitter and angry Wahabbist rantings to his fellow soldiers, his communication with a noted Muslim radical cleric, and oh yeah, his phone calls, documented by the army, to Al Qaeda!
Hmmm…how could anyone possibly have seen anything bad coming….?
And now… The people that admitted to having masterminded the destruction of the Twin Towers and murdered three thousand Americans are to be put on trial a few blocks from where the towers fell in downtown Manhattan.
As a “Star Trek” alumnus, I am bereaved that the phrase “Beam me up, Scotty!” has been so over-used…or I’d be tempted to use it now.
The ACLU will ensure that these self-admitted terrorists’ ‘rights’ will be guarded as they’re extended every legal privilege, the same as a law-abiding citizen of the U.S. Upon discovery it will be revealed that they were not Miranda-ized and made fully aware of their ‘rights’ when they were apprehended. Upon discovery it will be revealed that ‘proper’ search-and-seizure methods were not used when these miscreants were arrested. Wire-tapping may have been used that the ACLU will have a problem with. Three of these fellows were strapped to a board and had water poured over their faces, convincing them that they were in danger of drowning – all in a very successful attempt to procure valuable information that may have saved thousands of more lives of Americans.
And the CIA, the FBI, George W. Bush and the entire U.S. Military will be put on trial for the court of world opinion to evaluate – a years-long, hundred-million dollar dog-and-pony show of a trial for the America-hating Leftists to rally behind. “You see? You see how bad we were before? You see what Bush/Cheney/Halliburton gave you? Well…we’re not like that anymore. And to show you how sorry we are…we’re gonna serve up America’s autonomy and exceptionalism on a silver platter. Everybody come take a bite — who wants white meat?”
In Bizarro-World 2009…up is down. The good guys get prosecuted and the bad guys walk. So how many betting men do we have out there? Has Vegas set the odds yet? And what’s the line and spread on these five guys walking?
In a rush to re-establish to the world our supposed, and heretofore, absent humility and global cooperation – and in the name of a misguided allegiance to some missing ‘higher good’ for humanity, we have abruptly changed direction and now champion a new banner – ‘Peace through supplication…strength through softness’.
Future Al Jazeera news headline in Arabic: “The Pussification of America is complete.”
I suppose some will merely deem it to be the natural countermanding of Mr. Obama’s predecessor, George Bush’s ‘cowboy’ persona, in both personal style and foreign diplomacy. Mr. Obama, in order to counterpoint Mr. Bush’s ‘cowboy swagger’ (Bush calls it “walking”), bows low to foreign heads of state – some would say grovels – and in every tone and rhetoric, apologizes to the world for our excellence and achievement.
And, oh by the way, we’re sorry we’ve been such horrible racists – unlike you all.
But now that we’ve proven to the international community that we’re no longer racist and are suddenly all too aware that we’re the focal point and primary cause for everything bad, destructive and unstylish in the world — Europe cheers us. How better to validate their own insistent bend into socialism? Socialists everywhere just love us now. Third-world despots embrace our epiphanic rush to change. Hamas and Hezbollah smile their congratulations at our new enlightenment and willingness to abdicate our superiority of both strength and ideals — all in the name of tolerance and ‘balance’.
Enemies of America everywhere smile warmly at us…as they sharpen their daggers.
Our allies around the globe are getting nervous. And who could blame them? I read of Neville Chamberlain’s assurances to his countrymen in 1938 after meeting with Hitler in Munich. He was certain he had engineered a path to peace in Europe — through appeasement.
Ronald Reagan used to speak of America as a “…shining city on a hill.” A place of liberty and freedom and personal responsibility; a place people all over the world looked up to and emulated, and couldn’t wait to visit, and even emigrate to legally, to start a new life, a better life for themselves and their families. He reminded us of our strengths, of our compassion, and of our unending ingenuity, drive and resourcefulness.
Ronald Reagan made us feel good about being an American. He held us to the high standard of honesty and fiscal responsibility and individual initiative and personal accountability for our actions. The ultimate result of these ideals was success – success, achievement and excellence, the likes of which the world had never before seen. And something else we had: Pride in America. There were no ‘apology tours’… no gestures of contrition… no tacit appeasement, to anyone, anywhere for any reason. We believed in peace through strength. And these were not empty words – they were backed by actions. Reagan meant the words he spoke — and you could take them to the bank. Reagan spoke of the success that we enjoyed by sticking to our ideals, American ideals. He said it was ‘morning in America’.
The image was of the sun coming up in the morning…and not of its setting.
Honest and ardent students of history are not just nervous – they’re alarmed. This country we know and love, this America, is fast becoming unrecognizable to many of us. It’s like we’ve had this big wham-jammer of a party…and now we awaken to a monstrous hangover.
It’s the morning-after in America…only the aspirin bottle is three years away.

I'm normally not the conspiracy theory type but I can't help wonder if Obama is systematically trying to tear down the U.S. so he can rebuild it in his image. He's taking us down economically and socially and all the apology tours and bowing to foreign leaders is a direct hit at our morale. I don't think it's possible to have a more demoralizing man in the office of president.
next stop: obama declares no new presidential elections needed as he is the new supreme leader that we all hoped for…

Thanks for writing this. It's an excellent summary of the nightmare. After Hussein's finished destroying this once great nation we're going to need more than aspirin to rebuild. That's right… a spiritual reawakening is coming. Something good always comes from the bad.

Gary, your opening paragraphs echo how I feel many mornings. I've been blogging for less than a year now, and before showering and dressing for my paying job, I am up a few hours early to leap into Drudge and Malkin and Washington Post and Big Government to get caught up on events and to pick the three or four issues I can write fast commentary on. Issues that drive me nuts, make my jaw drop. Some mornings, I absolutely dread the thought of reading the news.
I don't want to know what outrageous crap Obama and his socialist minions did while America slept. I'm ashamed to say I sometimes wish I could go back to being more trusting of my government to even take one day off from it… hell, I trusted Bill Clinton more than this clown. I never felt like this under Bush. Some days, I feel so overwhelmed with the efforts of this administration to rapid-speed dismantle our Constitution and rob Americans of their liberties that my stomach is in knots all day.
And just when I think maybe I'll stop for awhile, I remember something I read in a bio piece about Rahm Emanuel. He's the master at wearing out his opposition. He said "it isn't over until the last vote is counted." Rahm is a dynamo and relentless… he hopes to tire out his opposition (it's the Alinsky method) so that victory is his. And I'll be DAMNED if that happens because I chose to be lazy and not write one more expose' or send one more email to my congressman or make one more phone call to DC.
I'm just one little conservative ant in the blogosphere, but with all of us little ants pulling together, uniting on this, we CAN stop this socialist government takeover.
Just is, we can't tire out before Obama/Rahm does. Because they're in it to win. We are, too, and there are more us than them. So, we need to shake off the delirium and the exhaustion and remember why we're doing this: we love America and want to save her. In so doing, we save ourselves.
In conclusion, Gary, thank you and all the contributors at all the Andrew Breitbart sites. You keep us informed and inspired to continue to fight the good fight, to keep getting up when we want to lay down, to not be bullied by this administration. It's starting to turn the tides. Without you and others tenaciously communicating, America would have become Cuba/Venezuela months ago. I always love reading your columns, Gary… know that you ARE making a difference. Especially with me.
It's far more insidious than that.
Step one, make every voter in America dependent on government for their lives (health care).
Step two, go into standard democratic play book mode: the republicans want to take away your social security, vote democrat and we'll save you.
Step three, enjoy decades as majority party in Washington.
What Obama is doing won't require the end of the elections.
Unfortunately a lot of us saw this coming. This isn't something that most of us awoke to. It's something we've been screaming is approaching while too much of America were too busy to listen.
I knew he'd be bad, but I never dreamed he'd be this bad. Only three more years to go. 2010 2010, get rid of the dems so he can't do anything!!!!

The thing that's getting to me is that it all seems so calculated. The apologies, the bowing in addition to government spending and weak military policy. He seems bent on reducing our status and systematically taking away the spirit of individualism that has sustained this country for so long. I think he really wants us to feel so helpless that we'll opt to be dependent on the government because we won't have faith in our abilities to take care of ourselves anymore.
Yikes! Isn't it frightening we have to use hangover jargon to describe our country's current state? I almost hate knowing there are a lot more people like me walking around, wondering when the world will start making sense again.

Holder knows they will walk. Out of 12 jurors how many will vote for acquittal. How many will vote for acquittal so their family does not have to go into a witness protection program for the rest of their lives. Holder and Obama are smart people and they know this will be a hung jury, or they will be acquitted.
We had our night of drunken revelry, We won! We won! We won! Now it is the morning after and the bleary eyed liberal saps are waking up to find they have married the village idiot, and he ain't looking so good.
On the nightstand is our empty wallet. The phone rings, it is our bank manager, someone has mortgaged our home for the next 50 years and our credit cards are maxed out. Looking outside we see the repo man leaving with our car. When we call our business a stranger informs us that all our interests have been sold to China for Monopoly money. Not only are we not the owner any more but a guy from the Post Office is running things.
This news makes us violently ill, no car so we have to walk the 23 blocks to the hospital. After waiting in line for over 2 hours we are admitted to the waiting room. We recognize the administrator, he used to work a desk at the DMV. Another 3 hour wait and then we are informed that the union doctor is not expected back until next week and that until then we need to fill out forms, wait in line, and of course, pay the waiting room tax.
Bad dream? You ain't seen nothing yet!
The public will then be calling for KSM's, Hussein's and Holder's heads. If this jihadist subhuman is ultimately acquitted Hussein has said he will not let him go. Does this clown not understand he's undermining his own convoluted logic of giving a foreign terrorist a trial on American soil simply to show the world what "fair" weak kneed quislings we are. How does he think the world will react if Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is acquitted and not released?

Excellent article Mr. Graham, but comparing the Obama Presidency to a mere hangover might be the understatement of the year. I compare this Presidency to having cancer and choosing to ignore it's presence. America is just HOPEing that the cancer doesn't spread too quickly or attack any vital organs. And to play off of your analogy of the aspirin bottle being 3 years away, under ObamaCare and its subsequent rationing, America's Chemotherapy treatments will be unattainable for 3 more years.

People ask "why would Obama want to tear down the U.S.?". Well, why do anarchists do what they do or Islamic terrorists do what they do? I'm tired of the "PC" constraints foisted upon us. Are we to watch our country destroyed while we get good marks for being PC about it?
Obama has more allegence to Islam than Christianity. My wife and I sat and talked to an elderly black women on a bench in DC when we were there for the 9/12 march on DC. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Towards the end of a long heartfelt conversation she exclaimed: "He ain't no Christian, he ain't no more Christian than the shoe on my foot."
I think he has a deep hatred for this country and is actively doing what farmers used to do to prepare an old field for a new crop – burn it off and till it up.

Sometimes I feel like giving up, but then hear what you or Gary or someone else has to say and gather strength. There are a LOT of us out there, a lot of sleep being lost, a lot of people to connect with who feel alone and overwhelmed. When I start to feel sorry for myself too much, I think about Revolutionary War soldiers marching bare foot in the winter to snap me out of it. Think about "Dreams of OUR Fathers". Think about dreams for our Children. Think – how dare they!

Randy, you're absolutely correct. I also think about the early days of America. How Washington's army was without shoes during the winter, how soldiers during the US Civil War ate crappy hardtack with mealy bugs in it, how my grandpa fought during WWII without amenities. Men and women over the past 2 centuries gave up their comforts and many, their lives, to defend and preserve America. Nothing worth having is easy, nothing worth fighting for is on a 9 to 5 clock. I was never apathetic about our nation's history, but in the past year, I've become much more passionate and informed. You don't know what you've got until it is threatened… or until it's gone. I love the readers of Big Hollywood and Big Government and Michelle Malkin because no matter our race, gender, socioeconomic background, we all share a common thread: love of country and love of liberty.
We are not alone. There are millions of us out there. It ain't over 'til it's over.
Get yer head out of the toilet, dood, it's a year away, actually less, since people vote on November 4th. Look at it this way; after we survive this prick and his pack of dingleberries, we'll be inoculated from insanity for 100 years.

"Honest and ardent students of history are not just alarmed but very close in enacting the second amendment". I think this describes more effectively where the majority of Americans are who understand what is actually going on.
However, once the manifestation of this administration is actually felt and now understood by those masses not active politically? All hell is going to break loose IMO.
When a community organizer, a do-nothing senator was elected, I expected the next four years would be very detrimental to our beautiful country and its citizens. But, this has turned into something much worse than I could ever have imagined. I feel like I have been kidnapped and deposited in an alien country. Every morning I have to prepare myself for the battle of reading about what new innovative plan our socialist leaders have devised to destroy our freedoms, as well as our country, without allowing what I read to cause me give up, because that is exactly what they want us to do. That’s when they win.
The first site I visit is Breitbart to read about their most recent subterfuges and to read the posts from other people expressing similar feelings, values, and often offering words of encouragement. From their posts, I also learn and gain strength through the knowledge that I am not alone and that united we can defeat them just as our founding fathers defeated the tyranny of England.

Thank you for writing this. it is one of the most important pieces on this site which has numerous important pieces. The blind spot that our leaders have and the blind spot people have who put these leaders in office is fatal. So many people say that the conflict with Islam is complicated and hard to understand but in truth it is so simple. It is a war between good and evil and the solution is simple as well. Kill the evil and the good wins. Thank you again and I hope many people read your words and take them to heart. To paraphrase Sean Hannity, you are a great American.

Playing the fiddle implies he is doing nothing to stop the fire. To me, it seems like he is trucking in gasoline to throw onto the fire.
You know, I think like this often, so you are not alone. Not by a long shot. Currently, I have semi-convinced myself that he will not be able to turn us into a totalitarian state without a serious fight that would make him look really really bad, unless of course, he had the capability to become the President of the World. Instead, I think it's more about just making the U.S. less important and less powerful than it is (or was). Just taking us down a notch and making it difficult for us to get back where we were before.

With his 'wise Latina' and who knows how many SCOTUS radical justices he installs, they'll simply state that the Constitution is UnConstitutional, and he won't need an election.

I grew up with re-runs of the original Star Trek. I LOVED the characters, the adventures! It opened up my mind to think about the future in positive ways. The possibilities of new technology and discovery! It was wonderful:)
The new Star Trek did Gene Roddenberry proud-focusing on the characters and their relationships and the IMPORTANCE of those relationships-not just to their own survival-but to all mankinds. AND they were able to do it with everyone KNOWING WHO THEY ARE.
And by that I mean-Scottie had no desire to be Spock. Chekov was totally into being himself. Uhura was strong and powerful and assertive in herself! She knew who she was and she LOVED who she was! Sulu, Spock, Kirk, and more-all the characters were strong and confident. And they worked together-voluntarily. For they knew that ALL were needed in order to make things work properly. Each member of the team is needed to be a success.
With their own gifts, talents, and expertise. Not begrudging the Captain because he WAS the captain. When Spock relinguished command to Kirk-and then came back to help the team-he KNEW his gift was for being the first officer. Nothing else would do him justice.
Too often it seems like society and our GOVERNMENT is talking about leveling the playing field. Everyone being equal. Everyone having the same opportunities. Same experiences, etc…. But what is that? Isn't that blatantly throwing in the face of sanity that PEOPLE AREN'T THE SAME!!!
We are suppose to have different experiences. We all have different make up-emotional, physical, and psychilogical. We are that way for a reason-so that we can share to gifts, insights, and experiences with those around us. To that we too can form into 'teams' in order to accomplish more together than would ever be possible alone.
If we were all Captian Kirks-well, it would be fun for a while-but lefts face it, there would be a lot of emotionality and 'congregating' and boldly going where no man has gone before-BUT who will get us there and how? Who will take care of us if we should get sick or injured? Tell us when we need to take a step back-or direct us in a good sword fight?
It is when we relish in our gifts and uniqueness and not begrudge someone else theirs that we work the best together.

Didn't they ever learn that life isn't fair? And who are THEY to say WHAT is fair? That people need the freedom to make choices and mistakes, to struggle and to flourish, to succeed AND to fail! To utilize and develope their God given gifts and talents! To do so as individuals, families, businesses, and a society….
Without FREEDOM we will all end up like the nameless, faceless guys in the red shirts. They give one up every episode without blinking an eye.
