The President sited his vast experience in business management and corporate restructuring. He pointed to the fact that he has built twelve companies from the ground up, managed seventeen others, and brought them out of the red into profitability, and…and…
Oh wait – wrong Obama. I’m thinking of Fred Obama… out of Connecticut. Inventor of Cheez-Whiz, Fruit Loops, colorable place mats, and Boog-Stop, the pocket nose-hair trimmer. Fred Obama… of the Connecticut Obama’s.
Oops — my bad.
TOTUS, (Teleprompter of the United States) gave a stirring and charismatic speech today, much like it gave yesterday and the day before. In fact, I do believe TOTUS has given speeches every day of its reign.
But as the President today read from the teleprompter, he sounded so knowledgeable as he faulted GM for not coming up with a viable restructuring plan to avoid bankruptcy. As Mr. Obama expertly read his statements, alternating between prompters, going back and forth so as to give the impression that he’s addressing the audience in a truly inclusive manner, he sounded so sure that they had not taken the steps necessary to bring this automotive giant out of a crippling debt and rebound into its former strength.
He actually sounded like he knew what the hell he was talking about.
And yet I sat screaming at the screen, “What do you know about business, Mr. Obama??!!? What does your business experience and acumen consist of other than community agitating, oops, I mean ‘organizing’? What the hell do you know about it, but what you read on you teleprompter that Tim Geithner wrote? A bunch of liberal Keynesian economists gather, stitch a report together, careful to remain vague and non-specific, and sound like all is well. We’re not going to devalue the dollar, we’re not going to monetize the debt; our Federal Reserve is rock solid. Don’t worry, my peeps. We’re taking care of you!
Go back to sleep.
No…actually President Obama only sounds like he has a clue about business. When, in his illustrious career of pandering, making speeches, posturing, photo-opping, and campaigning, has he ever actually worked within the machinations of a capitalistic enterprise? When has he ever run a real business??
And yet he is dictating how one of the largest corporations in the world is to be run. “Hey, I gave them a bunch of money, I own them.” (Okay, it’s really taxpayers’ money, but what’s a few billion between friends?)
Yes I can. Cuz we won.
‘Audacity’ does not cover it. Arrogant… pompous…disingenuous. None of these words quite describe the full essence of this president. We need a new word to describe President Barack Hussein Obama.

Bombastarrogandacious.

Make up your own, let’s have a contest. Winner gets a billion dollars. I’ll call Beijing, get the paperwork started.
So the decisions in this new fascism business arrangement are set. The government (our dollars, their decisions) will own 60% of the auto giant. That’s right…60%.
Controlling interest.
The fact is…everything this president does is about control. Though he reassures us that this is never the case; it’s always the case. But this seizing of control is always, as he puts it, ‘to protect us’. He has no interest in dictating or controlling or managing. As he then proceeds to dictate and control and manage.
He is the Disinformer-in-Chief.
The president is lying through his teeth. And because he has a nice smile and a charming manner…we overlook this? We give him a pass? Has Bush Derangement Syndrome gripped the American populace into some sort of mass hypnotic psychosis?
But the GM CEO took to the cameras today and reassured that the restructuring plan will work. It will be hard. It will require ‘sacrifices’. . But it will be dedicated to making smaller cars. It will innovate ‘green’ technology to make better-mileage, more environment-friendly cars. It will make cars that provide high wages and provide comprehensive health and retirement benefits to union employees. It will make cars that the President has told us we need to be making to help save the planet.
You know…cars that people don’t want to buy.
But if you don’t want to buy the cars they’re making, the government is going to Change your mind. You see…you need to get your mind right. You need to be convinced that it’s in your best interest to let the government make the important decisions for you. Decisions like deciding which sort of car to drive. What sort of light bulb you use. What extent you must go to by recycling and, hence, save Planet Earth. What sort of health care they think you should have. What food you can buy. Where you can travel. What school you’re allowed to attend. What sort of profession you may ‘choose’ for yourself.
Oh, I’m sorry. I apologize again. I was thinking of Communist China.
It’s easy to get them confused with us. Hey, even the Russians are catching on to what’s happening in our country.
What was once proclaimed to be the ‘most transparent administration in American history’ has proven to be merely the most media-visible. Obama-fatigue has gone critical within the ranks of the Right, but Lefties undoubtedly have a much higher tolerance for the current shenanigans. If not to simply prop up ‘their guy’, they have self-important sensibilities of righteousness to protect. And protect them they will, like a mother lion with her cubs. When things begin to unravel with the President, as they invariably do with socialists, the Media will circle the slogans and bite back hard at the dissension. There will be vitriol and incendiary epithets hurled as a matter of course. All lovers of freedom and liberty will be identified and ‘outted’ as Racists…. Homophobes… Sexists… Haters.
And this is when the government will intervene. Lead by the ACLU and supported by the President’s NewSpeak in a still-fawning and sycophantic MainStream Media, the dissenters will be thrown into a web of legal entanglements this country has never seen. Fortunes will be taxed, fined and eradicated. Personal savings accounts and family nest-eggs will be sucked dry by legal defense expenses. For you see, the government has a blank check for legal expenses. You, who oppose the Obama Machine, will eventually be brought down by a Death of a Thousand Legal Cuts.

They’re changing our government. They’re ignoring our Constitution. They’re changing ‘free’ enterprise. They’ll soon be changing our health care system. They’re changing the language. They’re changing the meaning of the word ‘change’. In fact, from now on, every time you hear the word ‘change’ — feel free to substitute in the word ‘destroy’. ‘Or ‘abolish’. ‘Eradicate’. ‘Undo’. ‘Do-away-with’.
Destruction we can believe in?
Wake up America. The water’s getting hotter. Will we jump out of the pot before it’s too late? Or will we boil to death?
This is only the beginning. The President hasn’t even trotted out Nationalized Health Care. (Socialized medicine to those of us paying attention.) I believe it was Alfred E. Neuman who once quipped, “It is thoroughly impolite to toss a drowning man an anchor.” If I were a cartoonist, I’d sketch the boat-side scene with the drowning man as our economy and the anchor as ‘National Health Care’.
It’s coming — all of it. Every lunatic fringe Leftist wet dream conjured up out of radical ‘60’s pot smoke. Hey, when I was a hippy-dippy, doobie-toking college student…yeah, I could see it. It all made sense.
But when I became a man, I put away childish things. And childish ideas.

Motors- the 'Lada' ization of the US auto industry. The $$$ we've given them so far has done one thing, and that's fund the UAW and the legacy costs. Now that the union is fully funded and in charge, first order of affairs was guess what? Needing an entry level high mpg car the brass looked to China to import some of their product. Not so fast, said the UAW- GM will only sell cars made here. Protectionism, they call it…
Whether they are cost effective or even desirable is besides the point. For you, the taxpayer who need GM to be HUGELY successful to even get a small return on investment, you will be cajoled, pressured, blackmailed- into buying cars you don't want, that are poorly made and dangerous to boot- not to mention overpriced.

I feel like we are seeing the New Deal all over again and the Pravda press won't come close to criticizing this guy. I keep saying to myself, they are over-reaching and will pay a price. Of course Gary is preaching to the choir here, but we also need a politician with a high profile who will keep the pressure on. Right now, Newt seems to be closest to being "that guy" (to quote Bruce Willis) but it remains to be seen if someone else will emerge.

Hey, I did vote on principle rather than self-interest. I knew Obama was going to drive this country off the cliff in fifth gear. McCain would only have gotten into second gear, and with any luck, Palin would have pulled the emergency brake before it was too late.

I have a question. Does a family of 6 driving to Obama's Veggie Palace (government run, of course) for dinner in TWO Obama-mobiles create more pollution than in one minivan, sedan or SUV? Please consider the additional traffic due to the increased number of motorized skates on the road. While you ponder that, think of the water saving toilet that needs two or three flushes to do the job.

That they took a company with a real-world book value of less than $2 billion and started handing them much more than that to keep them out of bankruptcy says enough about the Democratic understanding of business.
What has been done:
1. They said they did not want GM and Chrysler going bankrupt.
2. They paid off the union people the best they could manage.
3. They put both makers into bankruptcy, as part of forcing Chrysler to be bought by Fiat and to simplify the government takeover of GM.
4. They say they do not want to run GM.

It's funny, (well, not really) but I owned a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire, purchased used with 87,000 miles on it. It lasted until it had 257,000 miles. (And was still running fine, but was totaled out in an accident) Even when it was in need of a tune-up, it got 32 MPG. Most of the time it got 34~37 MPG. My wife and I loved that car.
I also had a 1981 VW Rabbit Diesel that got 50~55 MPG. So why do we need more efficient cars? Why aren't current vehicles getting those kind of numbers?
I scream at my television too, but I don't call it "Mr. Obama". My wife won't let me watch TV when he's on it, and I don't blame her.
And I never go anywhere without my Boog-Stop™. And one of these..

I could barely bring myself to buy a GM car when GM owned the business. Why on God's green earth would I buy one now with the federal government at the helm? Will the company be run as well as the post office? The IRS? Get real.

BTW, how soon before the only treadmills, steppers, and "spinning machines" allowed to be sold are plugged into the wall so the electricity they generate can be sent to the grid? I am waiting for the specs, I want to know how many calories I will have to burn to cook the steak I will eat to replenish those calories.

So we (taxpayers) spent about 25 billion to keep Chrysler and GM out of bankruptcy — and what did we get? Chrysler and GM in bankruptcy. And since Chrysler's merger with Mercedes worked so well, we thought it might be a good idea to let FIAT buy it? Sounds like AMC's 'merger' with Renault lo those many years ago. Chrysler goes to Italy, Hummer to China, Saab and Saturn to who knows where and Pontiac to that great junkyard in the sky. Hell, I could run the automotive sector better than this. But we have a 31 year old Columbia drop out running it — a 31 year old political appointee whose great claim to fame is he worked on the Obama election team.

The question is invalid as only one vehicle will be used. A licensed driver will be behind the wheel while the other five will be outside pulling and pushing the vehicle using the attached handles. Thus no pollution outside of toxic carbon dioxide will be produced and the exercise mandates of the National Health Care plan will be fulfilled, especially the Excellence in Children initiative. Do not worry about the toddlers as their support harnesses will keep them from hitting their heads on the roads, and consider the developmental boost they get by learning to keep their feet moving to avoid being dragged. The Big O cares about all his citizens, even those whose only tax they directly pay is for their own diapers to offset the environmental damage.

I would love to slap each and every person who voted for this change. Do they realize the mess we are in now? You can't blame this on Bush. This mess was bought and paid for by Obama with our money, our children's money and at least their children's money. We already flushed over 70 BILLION in just the auto industry and smarter people than the smartest president ever had been warning us of this from the beginning. Currently I can think of NOTHING he has done that his been good for the country. Nationalizing at least 2 industries so far is not what I wanted from my Government. No German citizens ever got a Volkswagen till years after the war. Other than a prototype or two, none were produced till 1949. The English military helped piece the bombed-out factory back together and then they went home. Or something like that.

Although the Obama administration deserves all the score heaped upon it, let's also remember GM, the Heartbeat of America, (with help) put its head on the chopping block. Was this outcome not seen and fortold years ago? Years of mismanagement, poor leadership and poor business practices, years of union manipulations, and years of government interference together brought it to ruin. Has anyone learned the lesson or is it too lost along with GM. Maybe this correction, if Mr Obama is true to his word and intends this a temporary fix, will actually work to our advantage. One can only have the Audacity of Hope. All Hail Government Motors!!

You are right about GM value. Chrysler at the start of the bailout under Bush was exactly worth zero. All Chrysler assets were equal to all the money the Chrysler finaciers owed. That is why they had to marry Chrysler to somebody, because it was worthless on its own.
I'm starting to wonder if all of this bailout bs isn't just one big plan to take down one of the countries biggest employers..You know to help add to the great depression that is coming. If it's not by design then they're some pretty heavy duty screwups. If it is by design then they're some serious freakin' genious' because it's working like no other plan anyone could ever think up.

The 'Won's' only real experience in running anything, was when he chaired a committee (with his buddy Bill Ayers) that was given 100 million bucks from the Annenburgs. They were supposed to improve education in Chicago. What happened? Obama spent every penny and not one child improved in reading, math, etc. Oh, they learned lots about political action and 'community organizing', but the kids in Chicago schools were just as bad off or even worse, after Obama blew 100 million bucks.
And he puts "Skippy the Car Czar" in charge of a multi-billion dollar organization.

If you missed it, Pravda printed an article this week chastising Obama for taking us down the same path that Russia took 70 years ago. Even Vladimir Putin warned Obama to change course and avoid what happened to Russia under communism. But Obama's too clever to listen to anyone with practical experience; he only listens to marxist college professors with dreams of utopia and no more real world experience than he has.
Just a couple, (well maybe more), random thoughts re: downsizing…cars, CO emissions, life in general… will large touring bands like Springstein, Dave Matthews, Tim McGraw et.al. be required to downsize their requisite tour buses? Will artists like Eminem, 50-cent, and Lil' Wayne need to purchase 2 seater "Clown Cars" for the members of thier respective posse's? I would be quite amused to see that parade. Since the current administration seems so "concerned" about the welfare of the planet you would think they'd send a memo to these supporters asking them to take an even bigger role in leading us to a "greener, cleaner" world.At the risk of answering my own question, I think we will see "exceptions" made…Some areas of society will still have SUV's,buses and semi's ..special priveledges(sp? Besides the obvious that Obama doesn't know how to run anything but his mouth and a campaign, there is a more VERY glaring problem with his administration that a few have commented on- not only has he not hired an entrepreneur in his administration, but he surrounds himself with "only the best and brightest"- Ivy league graduates. So, how has a PhD from Harvard, or better yet, President of Harvard, helped? What about that Yale degree? What has Ivy league gotten our country but way overpriced inept business/economic ideas (particularly on Wall Street). I have yet to meet a business professor who could actually run a business. Liberal elites in particularly are simply in the business of ideas, not actual business. Who is SURPRISED at the overwhelming stupidity of Obama? The magic number has been determined at 10,000. That's with 21,000 fewer union employees (that's a great union for 'ya). The foreign car I commute over 100 miles a day with already gets 35mpg with 10% etanol. Who needs a Malibu? I CHOSE to buy that car because of the improved mileage to save money on gas and pay less tax on the gas (here in WI we have 2nd highest gas tax and will be #1 after the next Democrat-majority budget is approved).
The new GM car that will be named after obama will be called…The Mini Pooper….
