The New America – Deja Vu All Over Again
by Gary GrahamThe simple catch-phrase slogans bandied about for the past year were the thing of pop culture legend. Hope. Change We Need. Change We Can Believe In. Yes We Can.
Pabulum to the ‘downtrodden’… manna to the Constitutional deconstructionists… and justification to history revisionists everywhere. But prior to the election these euphemistic phrases were long on emotional incitement and glaringly short on substance. If words can be taken to mean anything…ultimately, they mean nothing.
Or so we thought.
Five months after the election we are starting to see that President Obama meant something very specific with these slogans that helped garner him the election. It just wasn’t quite what any of us Americans thought he meant.
No one really believed that this ‘new direction’ Mr. Obama wanted to take the country would pay anything more than lip service to the Marxist ideologies of history’s dark past. With such an infamous cast of predecessors as Stalin, Hitler, Khrushchev, Castro, Mao… who could ever juxtapose such a charming and ingratiating figure as the handsome young Senator from Illinois? And he loves his family and smiles so warmly. I get a thrill up my leg.
But if we can still our beating, fawning hearts for one moment, just long enough to focus on reality…perhaps we can begin to see what this Change-We-Apparently-Needed-and- Supposedly-Now-Can-Believe-In…really is.
In Europe this month, our president apologized for our arrogance. He apologized for us causing the world economic troubles. He apologized for George Bush, Gitmo, the war in Iraq, the trouble between Muslims and Everyone Else… and for the despicable evils of Capitalism.
At home, not one to let a Crisis go unexploited, the President turbocharged the printing presses at The Mint, poured nitro-methane into the spending machine and spun dollars out of our pockets faster than goose-down in a hurricane. Our grandchildren’s children’s children will be paying off our debt well into the next ice age.
After maintaining that they don’t want to micro-manage businesses, our president fired the CEO of a private company, promised to fire anyone from the private sector they don’t like, for any reason; and we are now asked to simply trust them to do the ‘right thing’. Bureaucrats, with no prior experience running a corporation, will now run Fortune 500 companies as it suits them, picking and choosing, micro-managing at will. TARP funds in play, bail-out funds clicking in, and bonuses held ransom, Big Government will stick-and-carrot American industry to its liking…or else.
And just the ghost of Chairman Mao: Behind every ‘or else’…is the barrel of a gun.
“Oh Gary, Gary, Gary… Aren’t you being just a bit melodramatic? A little paranoid? Just a tad over-the-top?” You think so? You think the federal government is just moving into American business as an ‘advisory council’ of some sort? Offer assistance and good advice where it’s needed, but backing out within the actual workaday mechanism of commerce, trade and business? And once the economy is booming again, the government will just graciously bow out…withdraw…go away?
Pinch yourself – you’re dreaming.
Ask yourself (and FDR apologists and sycophants need not apply) – How many of the freedom-shackling elements of The New Deal are still in place after seventy-six years? Answer: Nearly all of them. So what is the likelihood that in future elections, with future administrations, that freedom-loving people will be able to reverse these Draconian measures already set into motion by the Obama administration?
Slim and none — and Slim just left town.
Mr. Obama had quite the love-fest going on abroad at the G-20 event in England. Europeans love American Presidents who slam Americans. For you see, Socialism doesn’t work in Europe any better than is does here, and this pisses them off. It’s nice to have an American prez come out and claim that it’s all our fault. This fosters an American-European group hug with warm fuzzies and candy cane sentiments. And it doesn’t hurt either that he abdicates our national economic autonomy to the newly formed FBS (Financial Stability Board), an organization of twelve nations run by an Italian banker, that gives the U.S. one vote — even though our GDP is three times its closest rival (Japan).
This, I imagine, was concocted to take the edge off our ‘arrogance’.
Then he took the Magical Mystery Tour to four other nations that agreed we were arrogant and dismissive; he bowed low to the Saudi king…(oh, I’m sorry, I mean, leaned down low in the midst of his handshake to the monarch to admire the fine carpet.), and then, in turkey, by supporting the Wahabbists, dealt a non-support blow to the Turkish middle class who seek to maintain a secular Constitutional government.
Then, as North Korea launches a ballistic missile, Obama offered a stern ‘warning’ that North Korea’s missile launch will not be tolerated…and then went ahead and tolerated it. So much so, that the very next day he issues a statement that our missile interceptor program will be cut drastically. I’m not one to recommend increasing the size of government – ever… but I think perhaps a new cabinet position should emerge: a Secretary of Consistency.
So I listened with great interest this morning as the President addressed his teleprompters at Georgetown University on the Wonderful Successes of The Obama Administration Dealing with the Economic Crisis. And I just had to swoon. President Obama is so smart, he is going to take over the entire formerly free market, and then, against all odds, manage, fix and render it solvent, practical, efficient. Whew! Now I can finally get some sleep.
And, amazingly, the President even invoked Biblical words, as in “…build your house upon the rock.” — likening his plan, I guess, to being as solid as having Faith in Christ.
Uh…. Now that’s arrogance we can believe in!
Are you kidding me?? When in history has a collectivist central-planning federal government ever lead to prosperity? When has it ever lead to nothing but decline? Decline and decimation of freedom, liberty, enterprise, and the economy? When has shackling our engine of freedom, Capitalism, ever been a good idea for prolonged economic growth?
But the teleprompter rolls on. They have figured it all out for us. The President’s bullet-points sounded so efficient, and forceful, and humane. Organized approach to the financial crisis. Practical oversight tempered with responsible stimulus. Restored Fairness and Balance to our tax code.
Fairness? He reaffirmed his commitment “to provide tax-cuts to 95% of working families”. But what about ‘families’ who aren’t working? I will bet you dollars to donuts they still get a check. That’s how we define ‘fair’ now. People who don’t pay taxes get ‘tax break’ checks. And what about the 5% who don’t get tax cuts? Wellsir… their taxes are going to go waaaaaaaaayyyyyy up. Because they ‘can afford it’, dontcha know. How do I know that? Hey, ask any Liberal/socialist. They know. They have the innate ability to determine who can afford what. It’s a special class they take at the university, in the Humanities and Philosophy Departments nationwide – Rich Dude Take-Down, 101.
That will get the economy humming.
A typical reaction after an Obama speech is to feel hopeful…bolstered… inspired… even proud. But then, like a tailing off sugar-rush, you come down from the Obama high. And you’re more confused than ever.
Fairness? I don’t know what that means anymore. Sort of like Hope…Change…Yes we can. Meaningless fluff, concocted to elicit an emotional feel-good temperament…while control-hungry despots carve up our world and send our freedom up in smoke.
I’m curious to see how long before the voters beg for a do-over. And if the frog in the boiling water will be able to leap out…or whether if by then, it will be too late.
But I’m just being melodramatic.

"if we can still our beating, fawning hearts for one moment, just long enough to focus on reality…"
and there it is……….
Thanks, Gary. Keep saying it. Say it clearly and say it calmly.
I agree: you are definitely being melodramatic.
Note that it was one of your "shackling elements of The New Deal" that Phil Gramm removed with Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act… which, according to some economists, was to blame for the 2007 subprime mortgage crisis and 2008 global economic crisis.
The real Deja Vu here in America is this: Like in the 1920's…a significant portion of Americans have been living beyond their means. On Wall Street and on Main Street American's have chased profit and material wealth to the point where their individual failures have spread a problem to the general masses who were, for themselves, acting prudently & responsibly.
As then, there are some hard lessons to be (re)learned.
We don't have to worry about our grandchldren's grandchildren's children paying til the next ice age. You forgot that our grandchldren will already have drowned from the global warming flood.
Once again a red-blooded commentary by Mr Graham… it has the added attribute of being correct. Marxist/socialist constructs are best delivered by incrementalism and under guise of crisis (Alinsky 101) and we are watching this particular tragedy unfold before our very eyes. And now, according to Janet Napolitano and DHS any mention of such 'is right wing subversion'… wild eyed right wing radicals we all are, you bet. Unfortunately for them we are the only ones paying taxes right now, so they're kind of stuck with us…
Obama wasn't apologizing for all of us, only for the right-wingers that have tried to turn America into a fascist pariah state. Let's get this straight, we apologized for allowing you to be in control of our country, not for the decent Americans that embrace progress and represent America's true values. The rest of the world knows this.
Pie?
Don't worry about global warming, Obama's going to shoot dirt into the atmosphere. That will make EVERYTHING better. . .
Yeah, and it was liberal democrats — Obama supporters (Wall Street types, Hollywood types) — who lived beyond their means. Go ask George Soros how this crisis has worked out for him.
Obama apologized to the Saudi King the way the libs always do by bowing… and grabbing the ankles.
Geez Auntie,
Give me 3 reasons I should give a well rounded pile of steaming manure, (as H. Truman was apt to say), what Europistan or the “world” thinks about us. Damn for appx. 80+ years we, (the US of A), have been bailing out their sorry asses at every turn, for any reason, and they have always hated, (been jealous) of us.
Just 3…Go!
Not Over.
P.S. Where’s the pie?
and just as many have stated that "Gramm-Leach-Bliley…..softened the impact" of the financial crisis. There is a lot to be said about people living well beyond their means. I have seen this for years and shake my head and go on paying cash for vehicles, have no credit cards at all and have never once refinaced a home. I own my home. I own 2 vehicles, paid for at the time of sale. Listing causes for this problem is incomplete and slightly devious if you do not include the Community Reinvestment Act, the pressure, put on the Financial Institutions by the Clinton Administration, to loosen up lending to those who do not meet sensible lending criterea and the complete lack of urgency and downright refusal of Congress, to acknowledge problems that were coming with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I acknowledge the greed within the system that lenders took advantage of, by often using unqualified lenders, to meet quotas. However, if those standards were not lowered, a lot of this would never have happened.
===Obama wasn't apologizing for all of us, only for the right-wingers that have tried to turn America into a fascist pariah state.===
Typical drivel from a leftist puke. Tell me stupid, how did Bush try to turn this nation into a fascist state? Did he single out American citizens such as Rush like Barack Hussein did? Did any Republicans threaten to nationalize the oil companies like (D) Maxine Waters did? Did Bush attempt to unconstitutionally use the tax code as a weapon against a group of people like Barack Hussein did? Did Bush have the DHS list all leftwing groups as hate groups that should be monitored as Barack Hussein has done with those that oppose him?
===not for the decent Americans that embrace progress and represent America's true values.===
You poor dumb bastard. Notice how these leftist cretins never define things like “progress” or “change”, why? Because the change and progress reek of socialism and fascism.
Progress is building nuclear reactors for clean abundant power. The French socialists understand this and are leading the way in this regard along with Japan and others. But the liberal regressive are against nuclear power, like brain dead ignoramuses they prefer to litter the landscape with windmills that will provide little to no useful energy; the mark of a stupid society.
Liberals have destroyed public schools and instead of allowing the children to progress by leaving to private schools with the help of vouchers, they vehemently protest such programs solely for their own financial self interest, not the benefit of the child. Liberals are detestable shouldn’t be allowed near children.
"We?" How many of your multiple personalities does it take to get together in a socialist, bureaucratic, committee and decide what is "decent," what the rest of us believe our "true values" are, and how the rest of us should "progress" further into debt for your collective "we" to embrace your politically correct nanny state and force it on the rest of us? Your collective definition of fascism is false propaganda, and your knowledge of history is abysmal. Just because your collective "we" believes something to be true; doesn't necessarily make it truth.
yep, sometime next week, I think. Next Tuesday…….well, maybe Wednesday.
Today's revelation of the Department of Homeland Security being on the watch for the radical right militants — and which people make up that group — drives another spike in the coffin of the United States of America, a free and capitalist nation.
Hope you enjoyed the Show! LawhawkSF is here till thursday. Remember tip your waiters and waitresses. Thank you and Good Night!
LawhawkSF knows how to do Funny!!
They could always make paper boats out of all the dollars Obama's printing since that's about all they'll be worth when he's done.
Wouldn't those "some economists" be the same Keynesians who failed to foresee our current situation?
Sorry – if I want a map drawn of how we got into this labyrinth, and how we're to get out, I'm not going to the guys with blinders on…
Being the wife of a deployed military officer, I spend many nights alone ,275 days and counting. It falls to me to protect myself and my family so I have trained in several different martial arts and keep my .357 handy. My daughter is currently training to defend herself and in doing so taking personal responsibility for her own defense. I urge all women out there to take responsibility for your own safety and get training. Dont put your men in a situation of having to defend your family himself. The thought of my children not being able to purchase a firearm for the defense of thier families makes me sick.
One of my friends who is a self-proclaimed liberal is already showing signs of voter-remorse. She, like many others I know, bought into the 'warm fuzzy' mumbo jumbo and neglected to do her homework before voting. His warm smile, endearing prose and grand (unfulfilled) promises have not helped her husband who has been out of work for almost a year, nor has it helped them pay the ever-mounting bills and mortgage payments. In fact, she has seen first hand how being diligent in her mortgage payments has denied her help, while those who were irresponsible receive gov't assistance. Although Obama's approval rating according to mainstream media is still high, I wonder what would happen if we had a do-over.
Great article, Mr Graham! Keep 'em coming
Excellent points!
Yeah! A do over! I want one of those. I have some friends who were jolted out of their complacency by the Obama Youth Corps. They've got this kind of panicked look in their eyes and I'm tempted to say "told you so," but I'll wait a bit.
Gary,
2 “thumbs up” on your post. Always a joy to see you here.
"I’m curious to see how long before the voters beg for a do-over."
It’s not going to happen buddy. Ever.
Progressives/liberals/hippy’s/my ex-wife, are incapable of admitting when they are/were/or could be wrong.
It’s simply not in their DNA/brain wave patterns like “normal" folks, (just look at Auntie F.)
You thought that the Japanese were tough during WWII, with their “bushido” code well, todays lib, would rather spend the next 50 years on a remote pacific island denying that they voted in error, (it’s the narcissism in them all), before they’d bow to the truth of the reality of events they endorsed.
Not Over.
Yep. Buyers remorse is really setting in. Most of the so-called right wing folks already know what people are figuring out now.
The masses that Washington D.C.truly need to worry about now are the ones whose hopes got built way up on slippery sand that is sliding away now. These are the people whose expectations are crashing because the man cannot and will not walk his talk.
The true question is will people have awakened in time to stop the damage, or will we all have to live with the disastrous results.
Mr 98 Zulu is dead on correct here. If you are going to mention Phil Gramm's contribution to this debacle you must include The Peanut's Community Re-Investment Act and the subsequent Fannie/Freddie/ Barney Frank-Chris Dodd-Franklin Raines nexus… the subprime mess came not as much as from greedy lenders as lenders FORCED to make loans or ACORN would protest their bank… there is blame to go around but not if you are conciously disingenuous and 'forget' the liberal nitwittery extant…
Really? My friends in Poland think Obambi is a twit. They especially liked how Barry had absolutely no problem throwing an ally under the bus to garner favor with Russians. They liked "President Bush" as did a lot of the former eastern block nations. That doesn't make a difference to you left-wing moonbats though, Poland and countries like it are meaningless. Had it been your beloved France or Spain that would have been different!
To sum it up: This country and it's people owe an apology to no one! We have nothing to apologize for! When any other piss-ant country on the globe does as much for the world as we have done then open your trap! Thanks for playing! There a nice parting gift at the door!
If the U.S. were truly a fascist State, the Canadian Provences would be States. Japan and Germany would have English as their official language. And Iraq would be sending all their oil to us, without monetary compensation.
I am so sick of hearing how bad we are.
Geez. Great blog, good points, Mr. Graham.
The Community Reinvestment Act wasn't at play when my realtor was pushing an "interest only loan" so bad I had to threaten to ditch her if she wouldn't shut up about it.
All of this harping on ACORN and the Community Reinvestment Act is a fake out. Investors had more money than they knew what to do with and that always spells trouble.
When they install the Photon Torpedoes…
(Couldn't resist. Sorry.)
We'll be using them for fuel in the stove, because "Cap and Trade" will have shut off normal energy production…
And just think, if they quit feeling inferior and get to work, they'd be so much better off…
Please, someone remind me…why are we emulating the Eastern Hemisphere?
Oh, that's right…the inferior elected one of their own. Damn.
A "do-over" was what the democrats tried to get in Florida in 2000.
I really like your "tag". LOL
Show me those cartoonies of yours.
Not Over.
TEABAGGERS UNITE!
Why is there a picture of Keenan Wynn with a very long beard on this post?
like all lefties, they still think fascism is a right wing ideology; it is, of course, nothing of the sort. It is the Clinton's who tried to bring their trendy upper east side fascism during the 90's; Mr Bush being more of a conservative populist returned power to the people… not quit 'fascist', dontcha think?
Great article, read it twice. Very detailed, and it scares me that, it's all true.
Great article Gary: Here we are ladies and gentlemen witnessing the largest con in the history of mankind. Brought to us by our aging ‘60s radicals, as promised so many years ago, it seems like yesterday. The hope of our glorious egalitarian society has come brothers and sisters let us be thankful the Woodstock Nation is borne, hallelujah. “HE” is among us “blessed be the Barry,” everything will be right and free with the world!
Soon it will be, “Hey Mother#ucker where’s my check! I said where’s my g#d%amn check b%tch.” Worthless leftist throngs marching in the streets, demanding this, demanding that, meanwhile Barry was last seen running out of Washington elbows and a$$holes screaming, “I thought they loved me, Bh…wa…wa…!”
This President and his cronies are like a bunch of drunken monkeys trying to put together a jigsaw puzzle……
A steaming pile of failure….. (Apologies to Dilbert)….:)
Either click on my name "Wag-a-muffin" and then click on to "my blogs/sites" and it will take you to my cartoon blog (on RightNation) or hold the cursor over my avatar and then click on "wag-a-muffin toons."
And my thanks to Emcee Primer!
Part 1:Here's the deal, and I do believe that history is repeating itself, all over again. Today Homeland Security basically says, if you believe in anything that we don't like, we are watching. To suggest that the (white) military servicemen, returning from Iraq are going to be joining a crack-pot militia group, only shouts to all that will read and understand, they, being the Obama Administration, hates the military, and has now lumped them into one pile, right-wing nut jobs. This sickens me to the core. I left the United States Marine Corps, and I have never even once considered these types to be anything other than "nut-jobs".
"Change and progress reek of socialism and fascism." That's a great comment. I guess it does fit with the name "The Great Satan". Our country is in such great shape after 8 years of being run by the Conservatives, clearly all our problems are now the fault of a man who has been in office for 3 months. Apparently, we do not need any progression or change to our great country, look where we are at! Highest unemployment rates since The Great Depression, little to no health care available to the average citizen, add to that an endless war in the Middle East and you've got a top of the line society. Grow up and realize we have had significant financial problems that started with Reagan. It is a very reasonable idea that those who make more money should be taxed more money. I'm happy to pay taxes because I use the roads, rely on our police departments and support our troops. These things all cost money, and taxes are the best way to get that money. If our citizens who were born into wealth were forced to spend a year living the life of a middle-lower class citizen, I think we would see much less whining from those upper class about taxes.
Being that you are a far Right Winger, I am assuming you are extremely close to God. I know the God that I was taught to follow would really have enjoyed your language "You poor dumb bastard". Being that I am not a religious fanatic, I am allowed to say things like that, but you Right Wingers are breaking your own rules. I guess that's normal for you, though. Let the poor suffer, kill those with other beliefs, and never, ever work together to solve a problem. Because that is a waste when you have been told by God himself what humans should do.
One more thing. I would suggest you not bring up keeping Liberals away from children after all the wonderful things your religious leaders have done with children. For me, I would much more trust my child being around a Liberal than would I want them ever to be alone with either a violent, uneducated, armed Right Winger or a child molesting religious leader. You extremists have shown society your abilities with children for hundreds of years, and I've yet to see a result I'd be comfortable with.
Best of luck to you Mr. The Great Satan. I see you are continuing to work hard to reserve your spot in Hell.
Part 2:I love my country, and would never bare arms against it. If you believe that paying more in taxes, than you should, they are watching, if you belive that our borders should and need to be secured, they are watching, if you voted for anyone other than the Africian-American President, they are watching, if you belong to a viable third party, they are watching.
Part 3:If you are an Arab male, between the ages of 19-25, on a student visa, and you don't report to class, or you come from a country that supports terrorism/man-made destruction, and you have no relatives that have put down roots in America, don't worry, we would never watch you, that would be racist, and anti-arab, we can't have that, so please make yourself at home, at least until you get call from Allah, to blow up a school, and don't worry, we will blame W., for our arrogance, if you are an illegal, and you come to America, to steal an American's job, help bankrupt our health-care system, fill up our prisons, and then have the courage to say "no mas" to learning English, again don't worry, we will never watch you, but if you are a blonde hair, blue eyed, white male, who served in the military, and loves your country, we have your file, right next to Timothy McVeigh's, and we are watching.
And the Tele prompter rolls on and on. Has any President ever had this much face time in the media. Sometimes twice a day he is on the Tele. Does he ever have time to sit down and think about the solutions he is proposing and what affect it will have on his children? Or does he just think his children will be so "special" that they won't have to deal with this countries future?
Nope, he’s simply a delivery system, Obot X-3000!
Thank you KimmyG. Have you prepared yourself?
His kids will be the future Commissars of the Dem Party, like the Kennedys, Bidens, Kerrys, Cuomos, etc.
I think all you people on the far right and left both suck. Your endless bickering and holier than thou attitudes will do us all in in the end.
Is that you, Auntie Fascist? Where's the pie?
I think a good number of people are coming around now. (If you are in the Ohio Valley and don't want to head to Pittsburgh, go to the 300 block of Market Street in Steubenville from 3-4 and join us there for our TEA party)
The question is, however, once the initial protests are over – what then? We know that no one in DC is going to give a rat's fat behind that Americans are protesting in little corners of the country and not in large numbers there (heck, they manage to ignore the pro life protests annually) Oh, this will make us all 'feel good' for about a day or two, but you know we'll have business as usual in DC and around the country. Tax and spenders in DC aren't going to be intimidated by News Nine's footage of protesters holding "Taxed Enough Already" signs in Steubenville. They will continue their plans to skew the census and take what isn't theirs (our money and our liberties) and build their power while paying some kind of lipservice just long enough for most Americans to go back to slack-jaw zombie mode during the commercial break in the evening news.
What then?
Sorry – didn't you say you "said no"? So how were you victimized?
The concept of a free market system is that you will frequently be offered things you probably don't want. If you take them, you're at fault.
I need for your liberal friend to meet my liberal friends, who are holding firm. One even praised the buy-outs and the apology tour. Help!
Why is it that liberals throw around the word 'fascism' without bothering to look it up?
Fascism: a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
Gee, that sounds an awful lot like the Obama administration.
Great post Gary. Its funny today Beck had on his radio a student who insisted he was a socialst. Then the kid explained his beliefs. He came out sounding like Ron Paul. Beck schooled him as best he could but…thats the thing, semantics. Socialism sounds humane. Its not. Its for killing unborn babies, population control, and eugenics, its for spreadin misery by taking wealth away from people and making everyone sad. And it has never worked. Not even in Rome. Think about this: Octavian was a Socialist dictator. How did he keep Romans happy? He gave them grain. Gave it to them. When Romans were starving or on the brink of starving tehy would revolt. Hence bread and then Circus' to make people focus on other things. This is what we have going on now, or the future. Doesn't it look delightful? I say not. For you leftys, You all may do whatever you want, I am going to Texas.
Support your state's initiatives to confirm state's rights under the 10th Amendment. Follow the lead of Texas.
You went "interest only" on a cardboard box? I guess TrollStamps don't cover much rent, do they?
Gary, thanks for a well-written piece, and grist for the constant mill.
"No one really believed that this ‘new direction’ Mr. Obama wanted to take the country would pay anything more than lip service to the Marxist ideologies of history’s dark past."
Oh yes, there were many of us who took him at his word. We yelled back into the yawing void, and were met with a cacophony of vapid, slogan sound. From the start, we believed him (and hoped the majority would, too, and be abhorred by the sound of him). In the awful present, we continue to yell 'Stop!' And we shall not cease. STOP!
The Euros keep missing their 'targets' for reducing CO2, and in fact they never will; but Obama still wants us to destroy the remaining manufacturing industry we have to be in line with the rest of 'the world'. (How he can say 'the world' without including China, India and other third-world countries that pollute far worse than any US company did during the late 1800s.) He still wants 'cap and trade' which simply means he wants to impose huge taxes to pay for part of his gigantic budget. The Chinese can't and won't keep buying our increasingly worthless Treasury bonds, and the crippling inflation looming because of our needing to print more money, so he promotes this 'cap and trade' scheme.
All the while the MSM ignores the wasted TARP funds, the unaccounted for 'stimulus' money, the massive debt, the slashing of our defense (which thousands of real jobs depend upon, besides being necessary to protect the US, our allies and our interests), the lack of oversight and competence in the Obama White House, the politicization of the Justice Department (Yeah, why aren't the MSM concerned NOW?), and the real dangers to freedom of speech, association, etc.
Instead, they are more concerned with the new dog.
Maybe we should move to Hong Kong…
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB12396676790651533...
heh…no really. Thank you so much for gracing us with your astute summation of all things bad regarding conservatism and all of that stuff. It is truly awe inspiring to be in the presence of one soooo seasoned and knowledgable in things politic. I am curious though: are you sure the rest of the world knows what you know? And how did you come by this information? Are you clairvoyant or are you making this up as you go along? And I'm a little curious about the name "antifascist". Is it the right's supposed version of fascism that bothers you or is it fascism per se that puts a burr under your particular saddle because lately the liberal wing of the land has been going farther than any party has gone before in the realm of fascism. Fairness Doctrine, et al. Freedom of speech only when convenient?? I'm just asking….Think a little before you speak.
But you don't understand. People like antifascist, with their superior intelligence, represent true progress and enlightenment for America, and therefore are always on the side of good. Nut jobs like us are always backward and on the wrong side of history, and represent bizarre extremist strains that are out of touch with the American people's true interests. Therefore, only liberals/progressives like antifascist should be the only ones to hold power, because they know what's best for us. Hmmm…I think the technical term for this is "false consciousness." Where did that come from???
I don't think you're being melodramatic at all, Mr. Graham. But then I'm an actress so it could be that melodrama just appears ops normal to me!!
Regarding your earlier posting of a call to arms: I was in CA. surrounded by liberals reading blogs on a computer not my own. My response to that post: BOOYAH!
Another excellent column by Gary Graham.
I must say the quality of thinking on the political right is so much more consistent and thorough than the demeaning emotionalism that usually passes for argument on the left.
For the left, mindless platitudes are not just slogans, they are the sum total of their depth of reasoning.
Another group that will no doubt gain power this next four years would be the ACLU. Check out the founder Roger Baldwin and his stated goals of the ACLU:
"We are for SOCIALISM, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself… We seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the SOLE CONTROL of those who produce wealth. COMMUNISM is the goal."
The "C" word is a little harsh and nobody wants to see it but those goals dovetail with our current social/political trajectory.
I hope you all realize that Obama and his stooge, Janet Napolitano at Homeland Security ,have just called all who oppose him "right wing fanatics" who must be watched carefully. It won't be long before we RWFs are required to wear a symbol on our clothes to single us out. Perhaps it could be a Star of David…Oh, that's right, that has already been used by the other nazis.
Yes, we should all worship the freedom lovers like Timothy MacVeigh, who have the guts to murder innocent children in the name of "freedom." One good thing about having W in power was it kept the truly evil on their knees worshipping him. Now they can start planning new murders — of course, in the name of freedom.
Ummm, no. They called "right wing fanatics" right wing fanatics. You know, like that lovely fellow who blew up a Federal building in the name of "freedom" and murdered hundreds of children. Or like the "freedom fighter" who decided that he had the right to murder abortion doctors. Losers who whine about "freedom" on the internet after a long shift at the shoe store really aren't a target of the FBI — no matter how much they'd like to be.
So how's business at the Payless?
Interesting how the left can only seem to come up with Timothy McVeigh when searching for a "right wing fanatic". There is an endless list of "left wing fanatics": Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Castro, Chavez, Che Guevara, Kim Jong Il, etc, etc. We losers from the shoe store know that we're next on the general secretary's list.
Gary, you missed mentioning my favorite part of the whole speech – the new "Five Pillars of Financial Stability." Not five principles or five standards — nope, five pillars. Now where have we heard 'five pillars' before? Maybe last Ramadan?
I have a '66 Rambler that does that – it shoots dirt into the atmosphere and the state just wants me to get rid of it. Who knew it was actually saving the planet?

Why so infantile? You debate, then you post up puerile tripe like that. Well, I was wrong.
couldn't resist.
Fair enough, but it takes two to tango. Both parties involved in a bad subprime loan are responsible for the situation. And since their problem has become our problem, then our solution will be to prevent "them" (irresponsible lenders and lendees) from causing such problems in the future. In other words: we will have the REGULATION that should have been there in the first place!
and no I didn't take any interest only loan, I knew better, thankyou.
Come back when you grow enough cojones to have an opinion.
Hold onto that Rambler, you could be the savior of us all!
ROFLMAO!! +1 for you!
Against my country, never. Against what this government has become, very likely. This government does not represent me. It wants to repress me. It is scared. It is arrogant and perverted. In collaboration with the left, with the MSM, with eurosocialists. They have become that which they always accused the Conservatives of: Fascist. They pulled out all the stops to get the Manchurian Teleprompter into office. This is their gambit and they won. In the process, they have exposed their sympathetic lawmakers to scrutiny. They are exposed now. They exhausted the print media who are rapidly becoming irrelavent. Oh, they blame the internet but that is simple misdirection. They used it up to achieve this bright shining moment. Those of the liberal mindset who still posess rational thought are coming awake again and will question things they did not before. I am seeing more and more of it. If we are to right this before it comes to armed insurrection, these are the people we must get to and reach an understanding. I urge anyone of the liberal persuasion, who haven't gone off the deep end, to give debate open consideration. Forget talking points. Seek answers and truth instead of ridicule. The rest can stay in their parents basements. At least until the house is foreclosed on.
LOL – good one, Wavey!
You mean the "regulation" that they shouldn't give out loans to people who do not otherwise qualify for sane loans, the way the Community Reinvestment Act did?
The GOV'T caused the problem by forcing the banks to do the wrong thing.
The GOV'T should stay the heck out of it!
Why don't you leave your liberal talking points at the door, skippy.
You are playing in the big leagues, not the Daily Kos
What is it with all you clowns and your Timothy McVeigh obsession today? Did MoveOn, the HuffPo or Daily Kos issue a new directive of some sort? It's just too convenient to be coincidental that McVeigh has been dragged out of your goblin closet by at least four or five of you loons today. And what's with the "worshiping Bush" crap? A lot of us voted for him, and for many different reasons. But unlike you cuckoos with Obama, we never thought he was the bloody messiah. We never wrote or talked about him as if he were the next best thing to great sex. And many of us have been highly critical of Bush's administration. So now that Bush is out of office, will William Ayers, Bernadette Dohrn and their drooling sycophants from the fledgling new Weather Underground be too busy kissing Obama's hind quarters to plan new murders? You guys need to start thinking outside the cell.

"Community Reinvestment Act" is nothing but a conservative talking point. geez.
TARP covered the bridge at least…
Okay now that was damn funny! LOL
That was a good one too, so all I can add is: Remember to try the veal!
Still no frickin' pie eh? This is getting tiresome.
What after the parties? Start looking for new people to vote into office in 2010, at least that's my plan.
Now you have me looking at whether Steubenville is closer to me than Pittsburgh now too.
You're a wise woman ma'am.
Doh! You mean drunken…umm Wildebeests, yeah that's it.
That was a close one but I think I covered for you in time.
It seems you've been reading too many leftist articles. CRA is the Dems ruining home ownership. Barney F'wank blocked Bush's attempt at regulating Fanny and Freddy. And Ironically Chuck Schumer and Chris Dodd were CountryWide's own Angelo Mozilo's best buddies.
Wow. Definitely an argument for a private education. May God bless you and the stick up your bum.
How is that sweater coming along?
Because all dictionaries have conservative in them.
