Another 9/11 Travesty
by Frank DeMartiniA little more than eight years ago, a group of Muslim terrorists attacked Americans on American soil. In the end, more than 3,000 innocent civilians were dead. The attack on that day was just that: an attack. A well planned and executed military attack that murdered thousands of people.
Friday morning, another travesty relating to 9/11 occurred. President Obama and his loyal minion, Attorney General Eric Holder decided that the war criminals who were responsible for 9/11 would be tried as civilians in a Federal courtroom in lower Manhattan, a few blocks from their main and most deadly attack that day. A few blocks from Hallowed Ground.
I am angry. As all of you know from this column, I try to be fair and balanced in my arguments. I do not allow anger to rule the day. But today, I am angry. The Obama Administration has now decided that these war criminals should have the same rights and privileges as ordinary citizens.
The ramifications of this are obvious. It is just another example of the appeasement and weakness of the Obama Administration’s policies. I want you all to remember the last time appeasement was used in the late 1930’s. After that travesty fifty million people were dead including six million innocent Jews. The last time we were weak was during the Carter Administration. The result, Americans held hostage for more than a year.
Having the trials of these war criminals in civilian courtrooms will allow these hate mongers to abuse and mock American citizens and families of those they have left tortured and depressed for eight years. The trials will be subject to public scrutiny and will be a media circus like that of Michael Jackson and OJ Simpson. National security measures will be made public and National Intelligence Techniques, not all of which are water boarding, will be made public. Relevant evidence will not be admitted because of technical issues on the rule of evidence. These war criminals may actually be let free.
The Bush Administration, with all of its faults, kept us safe. Just last week, another terrorist attack occurred at Ft. Hood on American soil that left 13 Americans dead and more than 25 wounded. President Obama did not even call it a terrorist attack. He was too concerned about the feelings of the terrorists to say what it really was. And now we have this travesty.
Ronald Reagan said it best, “peace through strength.” Maybe Obama should listen and learn. After all he claims to be a pragmatist.

what happens if they are found not guilty, who wants them in their area, and if in prison, how many terrorists will they inspire?? save the trial, give them lead poisoning, a 9mm slug will be perfect. while in gitmo, they don't get constitutional protections, once here, they will use our laws to their advantage, and make a mockery of our court system.

I share your anger, and I believe it to be fully justified.
I've always despised the so-called 9/11 truthers, partly because, in my view, they cause great pain to the survivors of those murdered by the terrorists. President Obama is adding to that pain, as well. I despised him before this boneheaded move. I despise him even more today, if such a thing is possible.
This man, the man we call ObaMao, isn't worthy to polish the boots of President George W. Bush.
If it was not reality I could sit back and watch events as if watching an Andy Kaufman skit, but the upcoming circus of how evil is the US is and how all the "defendants" are victims of an imperialistic plot and becons of hope to all who are oppressed. I think I'll watch a Troma movie instead.

Painful truth is great. I'm with you on that. I mean, I regret the painful part, but truth trumps pain, every time. I'd rather know the ugliest truth than be comforted with the most pleasant lie.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was captured 6 and 1/2 years ago, not eight. At the time of his capture, there was never going to be a criminal court case. It was to be a military tribunal, followed by KSM's execution. He knew that and so did the government. As to why the military tribunal hadn't happened by now, I can only guess. I'm quite sure the government need to debrief KSM before his trial and execution.

The question is, how do we treat people who pass off lies as the truth? Are we allowed to stifle them? Even when their lies harm the innocent? "The truth" is often a way to pass off your particular agenda (political, religious, or financial) and bears little resemblance to the truth that most other people see.
The problem is not that it hasn't gotten serious enough for the right people to wake up. The problem is that no matter how serious it gets, no matter how big the mushroom cloud or bad the dirty bomb, we are basically supposed to believe that despite catastrophe and death, we should nonetheless be thrilled that our 'diversity' will have been kept intact, and no one will have been offended.

I hope people realize that there is a fair chance of acquittal for these terrorist reptiles in a civilian court where as military combatants captured in the field they don't belong. Their civilian defense attorneys will cut to the chase that their Miranda rights were never read and confessions were extracted under physical duress. And, never mind the discovery process where classified information useful to AQ will be made public, the lefty media will leak it. The public will understand how the enemy is being aided with this unnecessary lefty circus.

First, he wants to shift all the attention away from himself. Except that the comedians are acting exactly as the administration is acting towards our adversaries – they avoid "confrontation" because they don't want to hurt their feelings and provoke another adverse reaction. It is obvious that this troll hasn't the capacity to see past his irrational vitriolic hatred to recognize the terrible wounds this trial will again inflict on the people of NYC. He cannot understand that by allowing the press to be present, that day in and day out the people who survived 9-11 will be again drawn back into the "terror" of that monumental period of American history. It's interesting how you conveniently forget that Obama is following Bush's policy. Bush said in 2006 he wanted to close Guantanamo and put some of the suspects on trial here in the U.S.

After they sat through the disgraceful 911 commision where 70% of their questions went unanswered, at the very least they want a re-investigation, which was recently denied the people of New York after a petition by one of the victims families got 80000 signatures. Along with 6 of the 10 911 commisioners on record as saying it was a white wash. I would ask you to watch "press for 911 truth" no conspiracy in it.

Hi all. Obama and Holder don't give a rats ass about the rights or priviledges of the terrorists. The only reason they are doing this is to put Bush and his administration on trial prior to 2012. You know that the left lawyers are going to flock to this trial like flies to manure. I'm sure that their lawyers will convince them to plead not guilty in order to get a trial which will allow the lefties to call all kinds of witnesses, demand documents (relevent or not) and grandstand to the court (and therefore the media) on the evils of Bush and Republicans. I suspect that some of the arguments used by the lawyers to convince the terrorists not guilty is the turmoil in America this will cause and perhaps the opportunity to strike another blow against America at the same spot as 9/11.
To holder this is a calculated gamble. The gamble is that they can achieve the same guilty verdicts that would have been likely with a military tribunal. They're banking on two things. The evidence remains confessions but not confessions obtained while under duress. The problem is that the defense can easily make a case that they were in duress in the time after the last waterboarding as well as during. The claim would be that they feared if they didn't say what the government wanted them to say, the government would waterboard them again and that only once they made it into a New York courtroom did they feel the confidence to tell the real "truth".
But the most important thing holder depends upon is the somewhat greater likelihood that there may not be a jury in the US that would fail to convict.
So why the gamble? This isn't about trying the suspects, but the CIA and ultimately the Bush administration. It is with this, that liberals believe the American voter will now only support democrats.

If I read one more revisionist columnist who claims that "Bush kept us safe," my head is going to explode. Bush did NOT keep us safe. 9/11 happened on his watch, and it happened after significant pre-warnings that were ignored by his administration. He then proceeded to half-heartedly pursue the alleged mastermind, and then shift his focus to an entirely different country that had nothing to do with the attack, finally claiming that as far as Bin Laden was concerned, he "really didn't spend much time thinking about him." That ain't the U.S. justice that I know.
This is just a diversion to get our minds off the economy stupid.
After 9-11, Americans were ready to do whatever it took. But then the propaganda media went into overdrive.
They ceased showing pictures of the carnage, stopped showing the videos of the people jumping to their deaths to escape the fires, stopped showing the plane going into the tower, attacked Bush for being a war monger. They kept up the drumbeat on THAT unrelentingly, too, convincing Americans McVeigh was a member of a militia (he wasn't) and a conservative. Bringing KSM and terrorists to NYC for trial is not half so dangrous to our well-being as the propaganda media. I saw a few minutes of it. Dark implications, sinister music, demands for questions answered, etc. etc. It seemed one main point of contention is that President Bush and Vice-President Cheney gave unsworn testimony in private. Well, too bad.
Just tell me in a few sentences what they're expecting to find. Maybe they're not as crazy as the typical 911-truther. I feel sorry for their loss. Sometimes, however, a thing is just what it seems. Sometimes, bad things happen to good people. The fact that victims' survivors want to assign blame to someone, anyone, is hardly new. I would probably do the same thing. However, that doesn't translate into the broad truth of 9/11 being disproved or even called into serious question. Terrorists committed an act of terror. It's what they do.

9-11 happened because Bush (meaning the Federal Gov't) along with most of the Intelligence community, the FCC and many systems of national security had disjointed lines of communication and protocols. I can't be the only one who remembers that in the after math of 9-11 we found out just how outmoded the lines of communication between even the CIA and FBI–not to mention the FCC–were? It was embarrassing.
Sure, Bush can be criticized for not addressing this issue in his first 10 months of office. Then again, Clinton had 8 years to address it and, well, that didn't happen. I'm not excusing Bush just illustrating the pre-9-11 mentality of our gov't.
On the other hand, it can't be denied that there wasn't another Terrorist attack on US soil after 9-11 during the Bush years. This is not revisionist. It is just plain fact. If the idea is to turn this into an international show trial of Bush administration officials with an added bonus of furthering their transnational agenda – as seems the only remotely logical explanation – well, I don´t think it will work. They are on a path that´s going to explode. It may be a disaster for justice, but there´s NO WAY the Obama administration will benefit from it.
