Hopefully ObamaCare Will ‘Die Quickly’
by Frank DeMartiniRepresentative Joe Wilson shouts in the House Chamber to President Obama during a speech on Health Care Reform, “You lie,” and is forced to apologize to the President directly and compelled to apologize in the House where the incident occurred. He chooses only to apologize to the President. This did not make him many friends in the Democratic Caucus. They could not bully him into a formal apology in the Chamber. What happens next, the Democrat House votes to rebuke him in a meaningless resolution. Of course, the vote is along party lines.

A few weeks later, Representative Alay Grayson of Florida, who also happens to be a Democrat, says while debating health hare reform on the House Floor:
“If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly. That’s right. The Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick.”
And, what happens to Grayson: Nothing! The Democrat Congress does nothing. Speaker Pelosi says she will not force him to apologize or withdraw his statement. A resolution along the lines of the one rebuking Wilson is introduced in the House by the Republicans and fails. This is just another example of the Democrat double standard that exists in Congress.
But, the deeper question is this: has the debate over health care gotten to the point where the Democrats say that Republicans want Americans to die and Sarah Palin throws remarks out like “Death Squads.” Has it all come down to fear mongering and hatred on both sides? What happened to the intellectual form of debate, not only in Congress, but in the media as well?
A few weeks ago, I wrote “Why We Can’t Sign onto the Democrats Health Care Reform?” In that article I attempted to give a carefully thought out argument relating to conservative issues in the current Democrat proposal. I am not in Congress. Why can’t our elected leaders do the same? Why must they resort to fear and hatred? Is it because they have no faith in the American public to understand policy decisions? If that is the case, they are deadly wrong. We do understand and that is why President Obama and the Democratic Congress cannot get HR 3200 passed in its current form despite their overwhelming majority.
Senator Baucus of Montana, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee is fighting to get his proposed bill through the Committee. The bill has been in the mark-up phase for about two weeks. Numerous amendments have been added to it such that it has been reported to be now over 1,000 pages long. Here they go again.
And, now, Congress is debating whether this bill or HR 3200 will be available online for 72 hours before any vote on them. Why are they even debating this? Wasn’t that one of President Obama’s main campaign promises? Did he not promise more transparency in government? Didn’t he want to stimulate fair and open debate?
The very liberal “Saturday Night Live” ran a skit last week in which President Obama was parodied. The main point of the skit was not that the President is too liberal, but that the left should be just as mad as the right because after nine months in office, the President has done absolutely nothing. And, one of those “nothings” is more transparency.
Both the Congress and the President do not want America to see either proposal before they are passed. They do not want any more debate. They know that if intellectual debate continues, the current form of Health Care Reform will fail. At first Senator Baucus’ bill looked like it would work. It was just a bad enough proposal to get both sides a little angry. It smelled like an old fashioned form of bipartisan compromise.
However, to the dismay of the Democrat Leadership, it did not contain the required public option. The Democrats from the far left have sworn that a bill without the public option will not happen. The Republicans will not vote for any bill with a public option. The middle of the road Democrats, the Blue Dogs, are the key. So, maybe the plan is to just sneak the public option in at the last minute, create a sense of urgency and convince the Blue Dogs to vote for it. This is not transparency. This amounts to lies and deceit. Hey, maybe Wilson was right?
I have another question regarding this issue. Why will this miraculous form of Health Care Reform being proposed by the Democrat Leadership not take effect until 2013? Maybe, because the President and Congress both know what a disaster it will truly be and they want the President safely into his second term before the disaster strikes. Again, this seems deceitful. Hey, maybe Wilson was right?
President Obama says he wants the bill to be revenue neutral and will sign it in no other form. Yet, neither the President nor Congress has any plan on how to pay for it and keep it that way. Other than higher taxes that is. Oh, I’m sorry; the President and Congress are not calling them taxes. Remember, Obama promised that no one making less than $250,000 per year would have higher taxes. So, how is this bill being paid for: penalties. Sounds to me like taxes, after all if it smells like a duck . . . Again, maybe Wilson was right?
But, I digress. The point of this article is supposed to be about civilized debate. That is what we need. We need health care reform. We all agree on that. Maybe Congress should stop trying to bite off more than it can chew and debate the real issues on health care reform. Only, after real civilized debate will we be able to come up with a plan that actually works and makes both sides a little mad and both sides a little happy.
As I have stated before, the Republicans want the following issues addressed and debated. If the President wants this bill to be bipartisan and wants some Republican support, we need the following to be debated:
- Coverage for Pre-existing Conditions;
- Tort Reform;
- Insurance availability across state borders;
- No coverage for illegal aliens;
- No coverage for elective abortions;
- A means to pay for it that makes sense across the board and that will somewhat revenue neutral. (Anyone that thinks this is not going to cost some money is dreaming).
The Republican Party does not and has not ever wanted people to “die quickly.” It does not want people to die at all. But, it does want a carefully thought out plan that protects the people, the sovereignty of the states, and is fiscally sound. Representative Alan Grayson is definitely wrong and should apologize to the American people for his outlandish and hate filled statement.

If this thing passes, health care premiums HAVE TO RISE dramatically in order to cover the pre-existings. You can't say that forced participation will keep the cost down because people simply will not participate.
As high as premium costs will be with guaranteed mandate, these three things will go a long way in keeping the cost down:
Tort Reform;
Insurance availability across state borders;
No coverage for illegal aliens;
The current bill will be a disaster and will be the excuse in a few years to implement government health insurance. At that time we'll be in the Third Depression due to the tripling of health care premiums.
When Sarah Palin used the phrase "death panels" I thought it was a bit much– at first. But it was so effective. The phrase is still being used and it brought more attention to what was in the bill than pretty much anything up to that point. I forget which late-night host it was, but one of them said something along the lines of if the best thing Obama can say about the health care bill is that "we won't kill grandma" then things aren't looking too good. With two words Palin put the Dems on the defensive. I'm not saying the debate should devolve into just shouting "death panels!" but you have to admit, it got everyone's attention and sparked a productive dialogue.
Judging by the photo on this article, either Queen Nancy needs a tad more botox, or she needs life support.
They are proposing a $1000 fine for not getting insurance. Insurance cost $3,500+. Removal of pre-existing conditions and what's to prevent a young, healthy person from waiting until they get sick, then purchase insurance. It would be much cheaper, would it not?
When she said that it made me cringe, but I'm now thinking she did it to get back at the media. They were reporting every little thing she did, and she made that backfire on them. It also showed the power that she has.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy so many people are interested in an ageless relationship. young girls

We've hit the big time…Joe Biden now posts on BH!
"4.No coverage for illegal aliens;"
Hate to say this but any national health care will cover Illegals. Supreme Court has already ruled in cases like this that you must cover them. It may never be in any legislation but it will be taken to the courts and they will be covered: no if ands or buts about it.
When/if national health care is passed you can add the costs of illegals of around $91 billion a year on top of the projected costs.
And yet one STILL cannot call Osama what he is lest one's post be deleted.
2013 Obama's plan doesn't go into full effect until the year after his first term. Why such panic urgency to pass a bill that flies in 2013? Why let the republicans kill people for 4 years and wait to start the bill?
Obama must think he will use it to win re-election.
If you have government panels setting rules for who gets medicine and who doesn't, they will cause people to die. Death panels. Never mind that their rules more often than not reflect what people will choose for themselves, sometimes people will not want that choice, and then the government becomes an executioner.
Go Sarah.
This BS makes me furious. I despise ThuggObama and anyone who makes deals with him.
Thank you for the excellent write-up!
I think he forgot to take his sleeping pills. Digital somnambulism, ya know.
But how can it fail? Our MESSIAH!!! HIS HOLINESS OBAMA SAID IT WILL WORK!
Of course he doesn't have any proof and it violates every rule of a economy…. but.
OUR MESSIAH SAID IT WOULD WORK!!!
Remember, follow Obama blindly.
Go over to HotAir. They have a post about the death panels over in the NHS that withdraw food and water from the elderly and let them die, not just refuse them meds. It is a reality. In any rationing it will have to be a reality, thats the only way it can be paid for. Also, this is going to get passed, they are working with Harry Reid to attach it to another bill and ram it thru with 51 votes. We have already been shafted.
Apparently the same part of the Constitution that allows Congress to force people to buy something they may or may not want. I forget, though, what part is that again?
Thank you HumanPersonJr!
My head is about to explode from the royal ramrodding we are getting from the King Thug and his minions.
By taking their plans and boiling it down to the essence of what the end results would be–death panels–Palin immediately changed the dynamic of the debate. It was a phrase that everyone had a reaction to, and was a lot more clear to people than phrases like "public option" or "single payer" would ever be. Her critics howled and screamed "Foul", but the effectiveness of her argument is indisputable. Palin also shut up a lot of the people who claim she is now of no consequence or relevance. It seems to me that she did more with two words on her Facebook page than the all the Republicans in Congress had to date on this issue.
Because of the 2013 start date for this plan, some of the essential numbers in the CBO review are flawed. They are predicated on cuts to Medicare that future Congresses will have to pass–something they can't legislate now. When the cuts don't happen, they'll have to make up the loss of those billons somehow: "Hello, Middle Class Citizens–we need your tax dollars–it's for your own good!"
If anyone over with over $50,000.00/year salary has to pay a 20% of income tax to buy their own and subsidize lower salaried workers, then we are not talking about the "rich" that are making $250,000.00/year. Personally, I want to know how everyone is going to afford this "affordable health care." This will take so much money out of the US economy, that it will NEVER recover. People won't be able to afford the basic necessities of life, let alone any luxuries. Add the carbon-neutral tax (which will shove gasoline to about $6.00/gallon (not to mention diesel fuel, fuel oil, natural gas, propane, or electricity price spikes) and we're talking about mass death due to starvation and hypothermia. But, at least the budget will be balanced when Big IRS gets 55% of the total estates of all that die, plus the additional income of wealth passed to the next generation….
Give the Libs an inch, they'll take a foot. Give them a foot and they'll take a mile. I see the same thing happening with Obamacare.
Liberal Democrats don't want debate. It's their way or their way, period. This socialist health care plan will be rammed through somehow by the Dems even if it is only a scaled back version of the original plan. That way they at least have their foot in the door which will easily allow them to add more socialist nonsense to it later on.
"Affordable healthcare" will be exactly like the "affordable housing" which became non-existent after the imposition of rent controls. Same tired old playbook.
10 ways to kill Obamacare in 2010
1. reduce Obamacare payments so no doctors will do Obamacare work
2. Make states rights laws that can halt Govt intervention
3. Make international insurance available for health insurance
4. support medical tourism
5. tax excess medical malpractice awards
6. simply end all "death panels" by ending funding
7. create a parallel "swiss" style private system. make it attractive enough so everyone abandons medicare and medicaid for this new system
8. use assigned risk pools for high risk or poor patients, with govt subsidies.
9. make state regs on insurance go away or lose fed medicaid reimbursement
10 have insurance policies compete on national media on price.
There may be no way tp prevent the passage of this mega bad bill. The House and Senate leaders are working on ways to get this passed without having to go through the normal legislative process. The Democrats already know that they have lost so much political capital that they might as well pass what they want anyway because if they don't it might be more than a decade before they get the chance again. Remember a cornered animal is the most dangerous. The next few weeks will be critical. The current plan is to push this through before Thanksgiving. They feel that they are going to lose a lot of seats in 2010 so they might as well go all in.
I thought you got fined and then forced into the public option…
But that was 2 bills ago
Pelosi looks like she's a little early for Halloween in that photo.
I'm afraid that you're probably right Rich.
Drop Dead , Grayson!….. Obama did lie and Republicans don't want folks to die , you bonehead!
Yes, I don't think I read that in any AP stories. But the courts will be sucked into this simply for the reasons you outlined. They never need to worry about an election, and can simply mandate anything the legislators are too cowardly to do themselves.
Yes, Pelosi has the real bill in the house, and Reid will do anything to get past the republicans in the senate, then it will be put back in during the reconciliation committee version, and only face a 51 vote instead of the filibuster proof 60.
They know what they want, and we are simply an inconvenience to be overlooked.
Destroy medicare, demand young, people pay premiums, limit payment to doctors, limit payments to drug companies, require that insurance companies only write comprehensive policies, don't touch malpractice or tort reform, tax insurance companies and people with high end plans, and extend benefits to 40 million people while telling them they will get better care for less cost. I can't wait for the queues, the exodus of doctors from the profession, and the stagnation of medical innovation. Our descent into 3rd world status is now underway.
Who's lying again ?………………………..
It better die quickly otherwise our personal liberty will die even more quickly if this tyrannical bill is passed.
that hope thing is only working for obama liar
so what are the Real Americans going to do to the stop the killing of America by obama and his fellow radicals and America haters?
can we wait till 10/2010
nobel is betting that America will not stand up agaist the damage of obama
nobel is betting against the American people
nobel has spoken – when will we respond to nobel and their fellow euro/muslim puppet – obama?

Welcome, Mr. Joe Biden, to BH!
And along with the fine points mentioned in the article, please also have Congress explain what part of the
Constitution leads them to believe that funding arguably the biggest economic disaster this country will ever see (e.g. health reform) should be paid for by those making more than $250,000/year?
And then have them explain how their answer is *different* from the same logic employed by old-world socialists and communists.
I think a couple of Czars troll here, too.
I lost count.
Remember, when Democrats are over the top, it´s never a scandal. Another fresh example:
Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton of Missouri got too close to the live mike on the House floor Thursday when he let another lawmaker, a fellow Missourian, have it. "So stick it up your a–," Skelton could be heard saying during the debate on a defense bill. [...] As chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Skelton was shepherding the bill through the House. But he apparently was irritated over Republican objections to piggybacking hate crimes legislation onto the measure.Republican Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri, a ranking member of an Armed Services subcommittee, argued that hate crimes had nothing to do with the defense bill and shouldn’t be part of it.
As soon as those who disagree are getting ahead, suddenly it's: "Why can't we all just get along?" Okay. You first. Drop the health care/insurance/we really do care bill, stop saying Republicans want folks to die, leave the banks and car companies alone, stop printing money and raising the debt, stop teaching the kids – both elementary and high school – songs about how great Obama is or how rotten the insurance companies are…, well, the list goes on. Take your pick. You want bipartisanship. Great. So does everyone. But gouging Americans for a lousy health plan and taking over industries isn't the way to get it. Whatever happened to town hall meetings? Hmmm? But Democrats are screaming how unfair the internet is – too much vitriol at the speed of light. Half-truths? I think not. It's all about exposure. Let there be light.
Also, they have to start collecting the taxes in advance of actually implementing the plan. That's right – they're using ten years of tax revenue to offset 5-7 years of implementation. Isn't that a genius move?
If the Democrats' healthcare reform plan was only about providing quality healthcare to all Americans, a bipartisan plan would be possible. But it's not about quality healthcare to all Americans; it's about expanding government and the control it has over or lives. We could provide healthcare to every American for far less money than any of the plans currently being proposed, but providing healthcare to those who can't afford it doesn't give government the leverage it needs to intervene in our lives. Once the government controls our access to healthcare, it controls us. If you don't believe that, compare the life of a person who supports himself with the life of a person who relies on the government for support.
By the 2010 election the Democrats will have you in the poorhouse.
Democrats giving America, the world and beyond to America's Enemies. They have had their time to solve the problems created by them…their anti-American morons trying to bankrupt America…just so they can make us the New Soviet…with them in charge forever.
I'd suggest millions of you going to Washington DC now, surround Congress…not allowing any more money stealing schemes to be passed…especially healthcare. Frack these chumps…arrest and prosecution for Democrats…fraud, destruction of property, unconstitutional/possibly treasonous behavior…from YoMama on down…pelosi/reid…dodd and frank…boxer and rangel…all…doing time in gitmo…until they tell us who all they really work for…it's not us…
Pres. Opompous ought to use some of his optimum taxpayer funded health care and have that huge bump removed from his face. That thing is gross!
Opompouscare has absolutely nothing to do with healthcare for all….it has everything to do with Obama control OF all. If they control your life (or death), they control you. Even the libtards should be able to figure this out…but are too blinded by their stupid ideology to do so.
[...] him into a formal apology in the Chamber. What happens next, the Democrat … and more » Hopefully ObamaCare Will ‘Die Quickly’ – bighollywood.breitbart.com 10/12/2009 Representative Joe Wilson shouts in the House Chamber to [...]
Not just control, but expansion of the dependency class. As long as Democrats play themselves as the party which will "protect you and your benefits", they stand to gain from expanding the group which relies upon those benefits. They want to ensure their lasting legacy. It's all about solidifying their power, the good of the country be damned.
Ok, so…a bigger opponent of government run health care you will not find than me. I also agree that there is a complete lack of actual debate going on…and I'm sick of arguing with liberals that don't understand how to actually debate a topic instead of just calling something stupid or racist…I guess they take their cues well from the leadership. But……..
I find it odd that a lot of conservatives and republicans don't see the difference between what Joe Wilson did and what Alan Grayson did. Don't get me wrong, Grayson is a typical lying liberal douche. But the two actions aren't equivalent. Interrupting a speech by the president (any president) during an international broadcast by calling him a liar in front of the whole world right to his face is not the same thing as critisizing a party in general during a (so called) debate on the issue. It's just not, and it does our party a disservice to pretend that it is. What Wilson did was tantamount to questioning a generals orders right in front of the enemy. You just can't disrespect the office of the presidency in front of the whole world like that. It should not have happened, and we should not further the problem by pretending it was not big deal.
In the days of the founding of this nation, debates were never, ever civil. They were knock-down, drag-out, very personal battles. The problem isn't that we need civility, it is that we ever had civility in the first place, because civility pretends there's reconciliation between our views, when there never can be. It's a war for the future of the country, the left knows it, and the right is finally starting to act like they know it. Calling for civility is calling for our defeat, plain and simple, and I just cannot understand how anybody misses that.
Joe, from 1789 and for a hundred plus years after that, men did exactly that alllllll the time. Insisting on civility is insisting on defeat. Remember, we're dealing with Charles Manson.
This is the first I've heard of conservatives "all agree(ing) that we need Health Care reform." I thought Limbaugh told you that our system is perfect the way it is, and that doing nothing is the best option? Where are you hearing otherwise?
How do you maintain such magnificent ignorance? Oh yeah, you probably watch Olbermann and Daily Show and don't read or watch anything else. The Internet is amazing, go do even a cursory search and relieve your ignorance.
They already have death panels in America.
http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/5755842/
Illegals will be covered. The vast majority of Americans, by and large, are good, decent, caring humans. They will never put up with footage of people legal or not, being denied care.
Not in America.
The Democrats forced Joe Wilson to apologize for calling out to the President in chamber, not for what he actually said. Seems they only have a problem with anyone pointing it out. Their support of Grayson's blatant, bald-faced lie reinforces the fact that they don't have a problem with liars, just those who call them out on it. Democrats are quickly becoming the party of Liars and Gays.
It is fun reading the bleatings of the Republican Conservative sheep on health care. What are you all really afraid of ? As a canadian citizen I have a private relationship with my doctor, no government involvement. I receive any care required in a timely and effective manner. Although I hear of long waits for some procedures thes are usually procedures that are under pressure due to the age demographic which is an issue worldwide (they are called the babyboom generation).
If you really want to promote entrepenuerialism in the US changing your healthcare from sick care is the solution. People who don't want to risk their ability to have health care don't take the risks involved in being an entrepenuer plain and simple. If a person can count on having healthcare at a reasonable cost no matter their employment situation they will take the risk of going into business, then they will employ people. continued….
If you doubt the impact of your sick care system just look at GM the main reason they went bankrupt was the stratospheric cost of health care for retirees and employees. Of course it is easier to be selfish and blind to the corporatist agenda. this is likely what will continue as well as millions spent by health car companies on propaganda keeping the media compliant on this issue.
There shouldn't be anybody in this country making over $250K per year. Tax all income over $250K at 110% and solve ALL of America's problems.
hey Biden! you Theif! You stole my clown shoes and I want them back!
hey Biden! you Thief! You stole my clown shoes and I want them back!
The latest Obama Administration tactic is to demonize the health insurance industry. This is absurd. The health insurance industry makes only a net 3% profit on every health insurance dollar spent and is forced to reign in provider costs and fraud on their own because the government will not control frivolous litigation and other costly abuses of the system. When a provider tries to jack up their rates by 30%, healthcare insurance companies refuse to pass the increase along to insurers and fight to control increases through negotiation and cancellation of provider contracts. Also the health insurance industry is the largest combatter of Medicare waste and fraud. The federal government just looks the other way while the health insurance industry eliminated waste and prosecuted fraud resulting in over 2 Billion Dollars in savings to the insured and the taxpayer in 2008. The federal government is really good at stifling competition and innovative treatment through pork barrel regulation of the health insurance insurance industry, though. This is another egarious deflection of the truth by the Democrats and Obama. If a manufacturing industry had to try to survive on 3% net profits, the industry would go bankrupt and require a government bailout. Can you say GM?
"Sarah Palin throws remarks out like “Death Squads.”
Next thing you know, you'll be berating her for saying she could see Russia from her house.
I understand you want to seem bipartisan and above the fray, but it helps if you know what the #^(! you're talking about first. All you come across as is clueless – and that's before we even get to the fact SHE WAS RIGHT!
