Ideology of a Liberal
by Frank DeMartiniSince the health care debate has wound down a little as a result of President Obama’s speech on Wednesday which, by the way, was pure rhetoric and seen by the general public and pundits as a failure because of its lack of new ideas and detail, I have decided to tackle a subject other than health care reform in this article. What makes a liberal tick? Why are there such major differences between the two parties in this country?
The other day I was playing on Facebook and saw a number of posts from my liberal friends regarding health care. The comments posted were all similar. No one should go without health care in this country and no one should go broke because they got sick. Why only liberals would post this amazes me, because there are not too many people in the world that disagree. However, it is just not that simple.
In response, I posted a few comments. The majority of them were along the line of “Yes, I agree too, but who is going to pay for it and how is it going to work?” Almost universally, the liberal responses were either “The Rich,” or “Bring the Troops Back from Iraq and Afghanistan.” I then realized that most thinking from Liberals is not based upon logic. In fact, from these responses, it appears liberal thinking is idealist and based upon emotion. This has been argued in the past by both Ann Coulter and Dennis Prager among others. I now agree.
Whether you agree with the War on Terror is not the issue. The troops are committed. You cannot simply bring them back. To think that bringing them back can be accomplished overnight is not to think realistically. You must leave them there as long as necessary to accomplish your goals or to train the local military to do it themselves. In Iraq because of the surge, this is quickly happening. In Afghanistan, it is a different story.
The Afghanistan situation is beginning to look like Vietnam. Either we make the commitment to beat the Taliban or we will be involved in a war of attrition which cannot be won. President Obama must take the steps necessary to accomplish the goal. Anything short of that will give the Taliban and Al Qaeda the foothold they need to take over the Afghanistan government again and to possibly move on Pakistan to get control of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons. This is unacceptable.
The second response “The Rich” is also idealistic. How much more taxation do you think the rich are going to take before they completely revolt? The middle class and blue collar workers at the Tea Parties on Saturday show that they are fed up. And, they are not paying nearly as much of their income as the rich. If you add another 5% to the marginal tax rate as proposed in HR 3200, most of The Rich will be paying almost 50% of their income in taxes before state income taxes are even considered. In California and New York, that is more than 10%. (This analysis includes sales taxes, property taxes, luxury taxes, etc., as well as income taxes and other income withholding). And, you wonder why people are leaving California for Nevada, Arizona, Washington and other low tax states by the thousands. People; rich, middle class or poor, will just not tolerate more.
As shown by the previous examples, both responses given me last week by the liberals are just not realistic. They are based upon emotion. There is no logic behind them. Hence we have the major difference. Conservatives think logically and based upon the reality seen in facts and figures. Liberals think emotionally and from idealistic goals and ambitions. The two do not mix.
Let us examine a few other examples:
What about the current Administration’s outlook on foreign affairs? President Obama, during his campaign, said that he would talk and negotiate with the radicals in Iran, Venezuela and North Korea. Since he has become President, what has this policy gotten him; nothing. Iran continues its nuclear ambitions unabated. Venezuela continues poking its nose at the United States and its President. And, North Korea does whatever it wants and will soon, not only have nuclear weapons, but will also have missiles capable of delivering them.
Most recently, the tape from Osama Bin Laden is just another example of the failure of President’s Obama’s policy. After his speech in Egypt, everyone on the left believed the Radical Moslems would change their attitude towards the United States. All one has to do is listen to Bin Laden’s tape released in the last two days to realize that the emotional based thinking of the left is a far cry from the realism of the situation.
In the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, the President says that Israel should cease building settlements. The Prime Minister of Israel agrees in principle provided that the Palestinians agree to recognize Israel’s right to exist. The Palestinians say ‘no’ and Israel continues its expansion into the West Bank. Another failure of idealism on the Administration’s part
Those that truly understand foreign affairs could have predicted these outcomes. Learning from the past and the use of logic as done by conservatives, works. The emotion and idealism of the left does not. The Left’s desire for everything to be right and for everything to be fair controls their policy. Unfortunately, this is not reality. And, hopefully, President Obama is beginning to get it now too. All evidence however is to the contrary.
The same is true with “Cap and Trade” and “Health Care Reform.” Both liberal positions are based upon idealism and emotion. Everyone would like to lower carbon emissions and make the environment a better place. Everyone would love universal health care. But, the fact of the matter is that “Cap and Trade” will cause many businesses in this country to fail and for those that do not fail, there will be many lost jobs. The realism behind Health Care Reform or any of the plans under consideration by Congress now would bankrupt the country. There is no plan that is revenue neutral at this point.
In all of these situations, the liberal agenda is fueled by idealism and emotion. Maybe, if liberals started thinking logically and based upon the realities of the world, there would be less partisanship in Congress and more could be accomplished. Emotion is no way to govern this or any other country.

Great piece, Mr. DeMartini.
Logic to a liberal is like daylight to a vampire. Neither can face up to it.
Liberals base decisions on emotions and sell them with bumper sticker arguments.
Here is a great video of Michigan's Thaddeus McCotter discussing how insane cap and trade is on the house floor:
http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/thaddeus-mccotter-d...
There you go thinking again, Mr. DeMartini.
Rational thought has little force against the Kool-Aid swillers on the left. It tends only to annoy them, usually…but keep it up!
Liberal idealism must be combated for the good of the nation. Even if, in doing so, we inspire the wrath of the loony left. But at least we know it's coming. Remember: "EVERYBODY EXPECTS…THE LIBERAL INQUISITION!" at http://firebreathingchristian.wordpress.com/2009/...
Keep fighting the good fight!
How often have you heard people like Martha Stewart and Bill Clinton demanding that America snatch a greater portion of their wealth in order to fund whatever they are on air to promote. What they do NOT tell you is that there are all sorts of tax loopholes/havens that allow those taxed at a higher rate to bring their taxes down to nearly nothing. Regular old tax payers and those of the majority who pay NO taxes (on the higher and lower income levels) – OF COURSE they want the burdens to be on the taxed. Change tax law to a flat tax and pursue those who seek to abrogate the law and the tune will soon change.
And then – I wonder how Stewart and Gates will feel about say – 75% of their income or maybe even their total wealth going to fix what ails the world. How about 80% – - it is for the CHILDREN!
The basic premise of the article is wrong. The conclusions are correct, but the underlying reason why liberals think the way they do is missing.
Liberals hate America and Western civilization. That's really it in a nutshell. They view mankind as a virus that needs to be "cured". The biggest symptom of this virus is Christianity. The hatred of Christians is what drives all the basic fears and values of the liberal mind. The vast majority of people are, for the most part, dumb victims of the greed of the elites in power. In the liberals mind and thinking, the world is divided into two parts: the oppressed and the oppressors.
The oppressed are kept down by the oppressors and there is no hope for them unless the oppressors are eliminated. That philosophy is why liberals are so sympathetic to Islam.
They don't seem to have any logic in their arguments because if you don't understand how they think you will never understand how perfectly logical their thinking is to them.
One example:
When the Nick Berg beheading video first came out on the internet I posted a link to it on the liberal message board I posted at. The "usual suspects" of liberal posters replied and here was their "logic":
The video was faked. Berg was dead when he was beheaded. The killers in the video were CIA agents under the direction of George W. Bush. The video was obviously a CIA tactic to make Muslims look bad because Bush, as a devout Christian, hated Muslims.
After about 100 replies, where the liberals were all parroting the same theory (backed up by links to far-left websites with proof of this CIA plot) I picked one liberal to reply to and I asked her this question:
So if I understand your theory correctly, you are saying that the video shows the beheading of a dead man which proves it couldn't have been true Muslims because only Muslims would behead a live man? If Berg was dead, that proves it had to be the CIA, because even CIA agents aren't barbaric enough to cut off the head of a live, screaming man. Only Muslims would do such a thing.
At that point all the liberals started accusing all of us who actually watched the tape of being ghouls and monsters because we watched it.
Ann Coulter is absolutely right about liberals.
I would have to say liberals are more like little teenage girls who never grew up. Looks and popularity are more important than almost anything else. They have no real concept of money and believe that "daddy", in this case the government, has an endless cash supply.
Slight addition to the koolaid guy: http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/4957/obamafant.j...
Liberal-logic = misnomer. Consideration of facts are other peoples problem, like work, and taxes. We must not allow anything to get in the way of the coming egalitarian utopia. Sipping the Kool-Aid eases the pain, brothers and sisters …come into the light …Barry loves you, …yuk!
I can spell failure ….O B A M A. What do I win?
A big of part President Obama's problems stem from wildly encouraging this emotion based thinking in his campaign and then translating it to the real world. A problem of advertising vs product vs follow through.

I'm (slowly) trying to build a quality blog. I need feedback from smart people on the right, also people who are interested in media. This website is loaded with both.
Please come by and comment.
Thanks.
those links just take you back to Big Hollywood.
Liberalism is a mental disease, volumes of evidence to prove it, none to refute it. Everyone wants daisies and cocoa. Not going to happen.
Here's more Kool-Aid guy-related parody: "Obama Invites Voters to White House for Kool-Aid Shots After Saying Electorate Acted "Socialistically" Last November" http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/07/obama-invites...
The article basically is correct. There is another aspect to it though. The "idealism" is based on a set of ideals that most of us are propagandized to – altruism, being your brother's keeper – that inevitably lead to a collectivist and statist "nanny state" mentality. A better set of ideas is to realize at root that we each own and are responsible for our own lives, for making our own choices and living with the consequence of those choices. We are individuals not members of a group. When the altruist mentality is put into play you inevitably lead up with the Gulags or Castro's camps or Mugabe's famine. When people are free to do their best with their own lives for themselves and the ones they choose to love you end up with America.
Must be the way this site works.
But if you click on my name, it will take you to my site. I just tried it.
Thanks.
I appreciate any feedback.
Obama is behaving with fairness, openness and honesty even to Chavez and the Iranians and over time his qualities will win them over the way he has won friends for America all over the world. You are thinking about this in a typical male manner. We are not individuals, we are a part of a society and our first responsibility is to our society and not ourselves, Businesses that do not reduce carbon emissions should fail. People who have great healthcare should give it up so that people who have no healthcare can have some. You are obligated to take care of everybody in the society as part of the price of being part of the society. The failures of Russia and Cuba are not reflections on socialism they are reflections on individual leaders who did not live up to the socialist ideal.
OH YEAHHH! To conceptualize a "liberal" as an emotional reactive parrot may resemble some, but could also be applied to many whom refer to themselves as conservative. When you have representatives in office that give half truths which would make Satan blush, those in the system need to be voted out. That when these polititians spend millions to be elected to a position which "pays" much less, then become a rag to riches story (amazing). To ignore that a humanitarian legislation (insert cap and trade, healthcare etc..) will make princes of paupers and kings of princes must be the focus. Not calling the opposition stupid, heartless or ignorant. To attack syntax or semantics of anothers arguement without seeking clarification only shows a weak arguement or lack of talking points (which shows lack of imagination).
I got into a heated argument about health care with some friends of a friend on FB a couple weeks ago. It was when a bunch of them posted the "if you don't believe anyone should go broke because they can't pay their health care bills" blurb as their status. One couple spun this story about how they could not get health care for their son because he had cancer, and after be turned down for care repeatedly, they, in this guy's words "took him home to die."
A couple of comments later, he continued the story with a bit "BUT. . .through a miracle he survived and now he's 17 years old." I was a little miffed at that and told them that was a cruel and rather stupid way to manipulate the conversation. To be honest, I had left the house for a while and never saw his follow-up comment where he said that his son survived. All hell got rained down on me from the guy, his wife, and other commenters. Then I posed a similar question that Mr. DiMartini did: why this particular plan and how are we going to pay for it.
The only responses were along the lines of "I don't know, but something needs to be done" or "it doesn't matter. . .something must be done." One guy even proposed nationalizing the entire insurance industry. . .all types.
Bullseye. And if you don't give them the credit card, they throw a tantrum and scream "You hate me!"
I don't know, I tend to think liberalism isn't just emotion and idealism. I think that it has proven itself to be purely nonsensical and alien. Platitudes are nice, but what usually accompanies them are nothing of substance. A perfect example of this was Obama's speech on healthcare. Human being are both rational and emotional, and from the Stoics to modern thinkers, ration has always controlled the emotive. To behave in a way that simply utilizes emotion, is to deny your very existence of human nature. It is an imcomplete form of humanity, not truly living to one's potential. The question is; what happened to these people that make them deny their humanity? Any thoughts?
In response to that Facebook message (which I only saw one or two people post among my friends), I was very tempted to reply, "So are you volunteering to pay for that personally?" It's always easy to spend someone else's money. Much harder to volunteer your own.
It is amazing how those leaders so prone to "failure", as you put it, almost invariably rise to power in collectivist states. I am equally confounded on how it is that Europe, reaping all the benefits of soft-socialism, flounders in economic stagnation, martial impotence, and a demographic collapse which leaves it increasingly vulnerable to the whims of Islamic immigrants.
I actually read a couple of days ago some lib claiming an "American tradition" of "sharing burdens equally."
What do they teach them in these schools?
Quoth the last admirable Dem President, Grover Cleveland: "I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution and I do not believe that the power and duty of the general government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit.."
"…our first responsibility is to our society and not ourselves…"
Maybe if you are an ant living in an anthill. The USA was not founded on socialist ideas. All socialist experiments have failed, and many have resulted in the loss of millions of lives caused by those who would force others to do their will at the point of a gun. Socialism is evil. As Margaret Thatcher commented, "The trouble with Socialism is, sooner or later you run out of other people's money." You can continue to believe that somehow you are entitled to the fruits of other people's labor, "just because", but it's actually just stealing.
The problem goes deeper than just emotions. Liberals feel they are entitled to their own facts. I assure you, that is not just a rhetorical statement – they really, really do believe that there are "facts" to support any given argument, so they may as well "select their facts" to support the point of view that gives them the most emotional satisfaction and rasies their esteem in the eyes of their peers – leftism. They believe that any given "fact" that you may come up with is little more than a "social construct," a product of your perspective as a racist fool dedicated to holding back humanity in it's march toward a better tomorrow. For example, they believe that the economic misery of the late 1970's (double-digit inflation, double-digit inflation, gasoline rationing) was caused by RONALD REGAN. Try to tell them that Carter was president then, and they will shout you down and change the subject. It's not relevant to them – Regan caused people to suffer, end of story. If you say otherwise, you're a bigoted liar like Rush Limbaugh.
Not to mention that all of the investment dollars that Europeans had and have, are/were all coming to the US, which is precisely why Obama needs the US in stagflation to appease the Europeans into reinvesting in their own failures.
Socialsim – No incentive for extra effort, no dis-incentive for poor effort. How could that possibly fail?
Funny how all socialist governments still manage to generate a ruling elite that does very very well, for themselves.
I wonder how the makers of "Kool-Aid" feel about their product for children being so culturally synonymous with suicide and psychopathic groupthink? I have to feel bad for them because it is now such a widely used and accepted social phrase to say "they are all Kool-Aid drinkers" that it has to make Kraft Foods just cringe a little every time they hear it.
You are obviously racist against teenage girls!
(please note sarcasm)
The left is Procrustean. Facts must be made to fit, or else.
The thing is – altruism and taking care of your neighbor are nice when truly voluntary, but meaningless or even harmful when imposed by the government, and that's what liberals can't understand. On another website a liberal actually told me that Jesus was the first and best socialist. I responded that if he really believed that then he clearly didn't understand Jesus's message. True charity encourages personal responsibility and a sense of community. Government-imposed "altruism" undermines one's sense of personal responsibility and concern for the community.
The notion that "liberals" run primarily on emotion I find more or less accurate, though the implication here that "conservatives" somehow DON'T is amusing to me. After all, I just watched the (tragic) "leading-lights" of The Right prostrate themselves in front of the Family Research Council and, by-proxy, the noxious "religious conservatives" the FRC represents. I ask you: How much more logic-averse and emotion-based can you GET than either religion or someone who sticks the word "religious" before their political affiliation?
The overriding problem of our world is far too much BELIEF and not enough THOUGHT in regards to actual, physical problems. That goes for the left and it's "belief" in the collective good AND the right and it's "belief" in… well, "it's belief" pretty-much covers it
No…wait…you're kidding right?
No, really, you're being serious?
Ask one of the 100,000,000 murder victims of your brave plan to work for the collective, since the USSR took over Russia in 1917 you commie sympathizing piece of dreck.
Oh, that's right they can’t because of the mind set that “they just did it wrong” like yours they can’t…because they’re still dead.
Proof positive that liberalism is a thoughtless and self defeating ideology.
Thank God.
Not Over.
(by a long shot).
DUUUUUH!!! Socialism is sold based on emotion and idealistic goals and ambitions.
But it has never been a success on any sizable scale, ever!!. Dreamers hope it will work. Realists know it won't. Dreamers argue "But it should work, so we have to try!" Then when things go horribly wrong, their only excuse is "Well it shouldn't have."
When millions of Israelis are killed by a nuclear explosion, the Libs will be the first to be outraged by saying it shouldn't have happened.
I still think "modern progressiveness" its a definable mental disorder. Every view is clouded by emotional (often scattered and paranoid) stimuli rather than rational/critical thought. They never work issues through to their inevitable end. I recently had a "Facebook" conversation with a lib friend of mine on healthcare that quickly devolved into the "What's with the racist conservative a**hole teabaggers waiving Nazi signs" meme. I responded that I think anyone who shouts Nazi first loses and pointed out that that imagery is not new to protests and over the previous eight years we were replete with Swastikas and Hitler images posted by the left and that in either case it's wrong. His response was that the left doing it was completely justified because of the issue…When I read that, I was convinced that my friend whom I've know over 40 years had gone irrevocably insane. I mean he just defended the use of Nazi imagery by one group over another because their issue justified it. He was completely oblivious to the hypocrisy of it and further the fact that the conversation devolved within two responses into "Conservatives are A**holes" name calling because he had nothing else exemplifies the mental delusion he and others suffer.
Consequences, yes (Ghengis Khan)Keary gets to be Senator, instead of in jail for lies in front of a congressional comittee. While many become indignant over being called a baby killer when they promote "pro choice". Again logic is the best arguement, but when hate and vitriol is allowed by some and called a buzz word by others it must be pointed at. Those who give comments and then cry that others are being hateful must be called forth, not the "tough" question without follow up or the simple ANSWER THE QUESTION, not double speak. C'mon teh it is a crime the way vets are treated now, they are lied to and made to wait for services (and that is if they know about them, government acts like it is top secret the aide some need now). And don't knock gin, it makes the sh*t sandwich palitable.
Another good one!
Liberals are like young children, when they want something, they want it NOW regardless of the consequences. Conservatives may want something, but are willing to "proof test" whatever it is and move slowly to make certain, their "want" is viable and allow alternatives to surface in the process.
Liberals cry for freedoms they are not willing to give those that disagree with them, conservatives desire freedom for all.
Liberals cannot handle truth or facts and operate as robots controlled by emotion, conservatives search for truth and desire only facts before making decisions.
Liberals march in lock-step to whatever they're told to do, say or how to act, Conservatives nurture free will and independence.
Liberals desire to be supported by everyone else, conservatives desire individualism and the chance to succeed or fail on their own merits.
Liberals have no moral compass other than what those around them have taught them from the Judeo/Chrisian ethic. Which they are pleased to ignore, deride and throw away for their "humanist" agenda.
I wasn't knocking gin…drink all you like,
. As for the way vets are treated now, it seems to me that since Vietnam the military has been seen as a necessary evil by our government. Not that there aren't some individual elected officials who are fiercely protective of them, but as a whole the government views them as a we only have 'em because we have to thing and it angers the living crap outta me.
Sorry,
The above links don't work. Just click on my name and you'll link to my website. Please come and comment.
As far as liberal belief systems go, they have they same problem as those who don't believe in evolution(not really a conservative belief, but call it one if you wish).
Neither can see the beauty of chaos or seeming chaos. Each require a "guiding hand" to make sense of their world. Neither can see that the diversity and fluctuation of the system is a good thing.
Liberal belief demands a god, in this case, "big government".
Otherwise, how can the hedgehog doing what he does and the bees doing what they do and the pine tree doing what it does and so on – add up to a common good. They can't see that exactly because, the hedgehog et al. are looking after their own interests that you have a beautiful strong economic ecosystem.
That your pointing out hail to the new boss, same as the old boss is lost on most. I found the continuum bends back at the ends to show two flavors of cool aide. They taste the same, have the same amount of toxins, but only change color according to the glass of the drinker. Just give your opinion, the sheeple will hate it, the others may learn something.
error 404
So the TLDR of this post seems to be, 'yes we're emotional but you're dirty christians.' Is that right?
Looks and popularity are more important than almost anything else
Please explain Henry Waxman
This is why fascism/commumism/socialism originates from the left/liberals. Emotion driven liberals are the non-critical thinking component of the population that the elitist left can exploit.
The problem is that liberals do have a basis for believing what they believe.
If you say to them, the rich are already paying most taxes, they will dismiss that because in liberal paradigms, the top 1% of the population has more "wealth" than the bottom 95%.
Having been raised by liberals, I can tell you, logic has little to do with their thinking. "Do as I say, not as I do" was a refrain I heard often. Taking care of ones finances or health were not even thought of. Living in the now was the important thing and government care down the road was necessary because personal accountability is not in their language. They don't really give a damn about care for "all," they just want to make sure it's there so that they can get their share. That's the bottom line. Abortion is the same way. It's not about a woman's freedom, is about having an out so they don't have take on another unwanted responsibility. Liberals try to phrase their mindset so that it appears altruistic, but it is selfishness personified.
Especially since Jim Jones and his cult actually used Flavor Aid in their mass suicide.
Charity that is mandated by law ceases to be charity.
Good point. Well, it got him out of Hollywood. Maybe they were afraid that if he stayed there he'd start breeding.
Name a single "friend for America" that Obama has won.
Here's a thought for you: I have "great health care" because I have a job that provides that as part of a benefit package. How about if the people who have no health care graduate from high school, stay off of crack and Night Train, keep their damn knees together, learn some skills that make them employable, then go out and get jobs that provide them "great health care" too?
I guess that's just too much to ask. And by the way, last I checked U.P.S. provided health care benefits for their part-time loading dock employees. You don't have to have an Ivy League degree to get a job with health insurance, you just have to be willing to work for a living.
You win a spot on the White House Snitchers Bureau's "Dangerous List".
Welcome to the club.
I think George Soros should put his money where his big fat lying mouth is and donate a *hefty* portion of his wealth to aid the uninsured in this country.
I'm pretty sure britcat is joking…
Either that, or britcat is one joke of a human being.
An expired Cash for Clunkers coupon.
Congrats!
My uncle,. 3 and a half tours, wounded, his crew blown to a bloody paste when his tank was hulled by an RPG, and coming home, was spit at in the airport. Screamed at, .. he never got over the wrong of our nation sending him his men, and then treating them like that when they came home.
there is no forgiveness in me for them.
I enlisted because of dad and my uncle's example, did my time in the cold war and like the rest was forgotten.
Yes liberals do have a rather infantile outlook. But their leaders are masters at the art of double speak and deception. The latest iteration of the health care sales pitch claims to not increase the deficit. Well that's just great at least we the people won't be on the hook for more dept. Oh wait a minute this is done by raising taxes and fees. I guess they don't realize (not) that the same people responsible to pay the dept back also have to pay the taxes. They use the terms debt, taxes, fees, penalties, etc as if there is a significant difference between any of them.
Looks like an editing error, the URL has the ellipsis on the end as ID would display the text, with slash-a in arrows like when it tries to auto-correct an URL mistake. That link is completely lost.
Ding Ding Ding…we have a winner!!! lol. I am so done with this administration, I can't listen to any of them longer than 10 seconds before my head just explodes all over the place!
Dear God, I hope you're being sarcastic. 'Cuz if you're not, then the only logical conclusion is that you have no gray matter.
Can not argue with that sentiment. All we can do is support those stuck trying to do their job with polititians playing games with lives. There are alot of groups raising money now to send tokens of appreciation to our troops out of the country, check your local paper or call your local Family Readiness Group. For the guy in Ohio contact the Youngstown Air Force Base, or the 475 Quartermaster in Farrell Pa., any help is appreciated.
one of my least favorite expressions is "Give something back to society" in the context of a successful person doing some charitable act, or even paying their obscene tax bills. as if starting and growing a business, or otherwise leading a happy productive life, didn't do anything good for the community in and of itself.
when was the last time (ok, the FIRST time) you ever heard that phrase properly and accurately applied to some welfare parasite?
http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/thaddeus-mccotter-d...
This link should work …
The whole logic versus feeling is, was, and will be a never ending conflict because it's a conflict that has happened at one point in each of us as people. The problem is when we just listen to one and shut out the other. Rationality needs the emotion as a check and balance for a well rounded human being. The same is true for government. We can't make policy with our feelings, but we can't be given over to bottom line mentality either. Each extreme leads to suffering like in the early days of big industry where people worked 14-18 hour days in terrible conditions for a pittance that barely kept their families alive and before labor unions came around to check that injustice. Now the pendulum has swung the other way and emotion and ideology need a reality check. It just seems impossible for any society to balance extremes for very long because we fail to look at the value and contribution the other side offers.
thanks! I've added a new link
Like one of Obama's books anedote (if even true) about shring his sandwich with a classmate. How generous he was with something his grandmother provided with her funds…not his.
You have not been forgotten by everyone. My grandfather was in WWII, Korea, AND Vietnam. My Dad was in Vietnam. The military holds a special place in my heart. No one, and I mean NO ONE disparages them in my presence…..ever.
Thank you for your service, it's people like you that make me proud to be an American.
It's always difficult to understand the liberal mindset, but I still find this a good speech and I think worth a look if you have the time. May be a bit dated given todays current events, but still a good speech.
It's called "How Modern Liberal's Think"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&v=eaE98w1K...
Stupid is as stupid does Britcat.
Always assume stories like that are lies, just don't reply to them. People are stupid and you'll be the bad guy. I replied to a liberal once because I didn't believe her story. I was vilified for it for years. When she finally admitted that the story wasn't true after all nobody cared.
And furthermore the new Ministry of Health would be a HUGE JOBS BILL for the same sort of people who polulate the Department of Education! Get it. It is a rape of the best, flawed, health care system in the world, but more importantly it is A JOBS BILL for the left! The Hispanic and Black Caucuses want this bill bad because it will hire Hundreds of Thousands of clerical workers, and the whole entourage nationally. Get it GET IT!!!
Can you spell failure? How about Waterloo?
dead ass on target with this post!!!!!!!
Honestly, I wonder how many people actually remember the basis of the phrase anymore.
You're right, Jaynie. I took the bait and shouldn't have. As I told my wife afterward, you should never, ever take a "child home to die," even if they're rejected for care at dozens of hospitals. If it's your child, you FIND help SOMEWHERE.
Excellent post there pal. My sympathies on being raised by Liberals. Your youth must have been painful & confusing. Glad you didn't catch the disease.
Liberals base decisions on emotions and sell them with bumper sticker arguments.
Here is a great video of Michigan's Thaddeus McCotter discussing how insane cap and trade is on the house floor: <a href="http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/thaddeus-mccotter-d…” target=”_blank”>http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/thaddeus-mccotter-d…
The nationalization of our healthcare is all about social engineering. We do not need an overhaul of a system the vast majority of Americans are satisfied with, what we need are specific reforms. Here are few immediate steps we can take to make the healthcare system better:
1)Tort reform
2)Allow insurance to be sold from any state
3)No one is exempt from co-pays
4)Illegals are financially bleeding us dry. It is not the American taxpayers responsibility to subsidize the lives of foreign nationals. Billions are spent on them in education, healthcare, welfare, incarceration, at the local level, etc. There’s your money to provide healthcare for the 12 million poor that don’t have it.
5)No exclusion for pre-existing conditions
These little wannabe leftist fascists want to tell us what kind of medication we can have, what kind of surgical procedure we can have, what kinds of foods we can eat, what we can drink, what kind of car we can drive, how much energy we can use, how big our house can be, how much we can drive, what we can say, what temp we’re allowed to run our a/c, what kind of TV we can have, etc. These demented little Napoleons need to be put back in the basement where they belong.
Your focus in on idealism and emotionalism, but I think there is something else at work of a more sinister nature… some liberals actually hate freedom, and want us all regulated… it's almost a sickness… they just want to pry into all of our lives and shame us, tax us, and generally manage our insignificant lives, while they as the elites of the new world will decide who makes money and who does not.
Maybe waxman is the exception that proves the rule…
I met a liberal vegetarian once she thought if we stopped eating meat the cows could all go free.
Peter Principle at work.
Wonderful piece. Its all facty and logicky I love it! The libs showed themselves for what they are during Vietnam. They screamed about American "atrocities" got the public all ginned up, out we went and then libs moved on to something else and the carnage that followed the U.S. retreat was nearly unspeakable, but the libs had better things to do…like spit in my father's face and call him a baby killer.
And therein lies their problem…no follow through. Let's be all hope and changey, but let's not worry about the cost or the consequences. How people live like that escapes me.
Well, you learned a lesson, but that should not disuade you from commenting. You are logical, therefore you should be able to change the flow of the conversation without directly disputing anyone. I just ask specific, pertinent questions, and my only responses are neutral (oh, I read that they were covered. Maybe my source is mistaken…). Otherwise, look out for specious, idiotic, emotional attacks upon you.
SWEET JESUS, YOU AND YOUR WORDS ["JUST WORDS"..... SAYS OBAMA IN THE BACKGROUND....]__ARE PROOF POSITIVE LIBERALISM IS A MENTAL DISORDER!!!!! LET ME GUESS, YOU WORK FOR BRITISH NHS…. OUR COUNTRY IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD AND HAS BEEN SINCE IT FOUNDING. PRECISELY BECAUSE IT SET MEN FREE FROM THIS TYPE OF TYRANNOUS TRIPE– WE ARE INDIVIDUALS, ALL OF US, THAT'S HOW WE HUMAN ARE MADE. EVEN A DIPSHIT LIKE YOU IS ALTHOUGH YOU REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT!!! TO DENY THAT FIRST AND FOREMOST, IS TO DENY HUMAN NATURE. AND BY THE BY, NAME A SOCIALIST LEADER WHO WAS/IS A SUCCESS… WELLTHEN, CHEERIO, MIND THE GAP- BETWEEN YOUR BRAIN AND REALITY!!! AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT GET RUSSEL BRAND SOME OF THAT "FREE" HEALTH CARE YOU SHITS, ER, BRITS ARE SO FAMOUS FOR…….
The single most important arguement against the Health Care system is this:
Social Security does not collect 3.5% of your income, add it to a matching amount taken from your employer and places it all in a money market account that sits there accruing at the time value of money. It adds those funds to the government "general fund" and spends them. When the government socailizes medicine, the major change in the system will be the shift of 3 trillion dollars in annual Insurance Premiums away from insurance companies, which invests those funds to gain a return. Those funds will go into government coffers where they will be spent. The only reason Democrats want to take over Health Care is to steal those funds.
Applause!
Frank I do agree that the thinking is based more on emotion and utopianism. However, I disagree we could avoid partisanship if they were more objective and realistic. There is a philosophy behind the ideology. That philosophy is hierarchical. It may be social collective in nature, but underlying is a desire to control. That desire to control overwhelms and ends with them seeking charge over their fellow man, because ‘they know best’. This is why when progressives are cornered intellectually; the attacks of racism, elitism and lack of compassion are thrust upon their advisories.
Psychosis – a psychological disorder in which a person loses contact with reality, experiencing irrational ideas and distorted perceptions. Bulls eye!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is what I put as my FB status when my liberal friends did their "compassion" status:
People should be free to make their own choices and reap the benefits or bear the consequences. People should not have to worry about faceless government bureaucrats making decisions for them, especially about healthcare. The government should work for the people and not run roughshod over the Constitution while drunk with power. If you agree, please post this as your status for the rest of the day and longer.
I also put a modest proposal for healthcare reform on my website.
When I think of a liberal's idealism the phrase that comes to my mind is "It aint why, it just is." A liberal has a hard time dealing with real world issues either out of naive idealism (foreign affairs) or just plain ignorance (economic policy). A liberal thinks appeasement can work when dealing with lying, power scheming despots and their mantra of taxing the rich is boneheaded when we need their investments to create and keep jobs.
Thank the spirits I live in a free country where there are no liberals. I love China
Part 1
Let me be clear in saying I prefer to deal with individuals rather than group labels. I try to approach life that way as often as possible. But the past 4-8 years have left me with little choice but to agree with your article.
Aside from voting, I've never been much into politics in general. It just wasn't a part of my family growing up. And so all of this "Left vs. Right" and "Conservative vs. Liberal" talk was pretty new to me. It wasn't until the advent of the internet that I was exposed to people from many different viewpoints and political ideologies. I was fortunate in that I got to know many people as good friends way before I knew anything about their political views.
Part 2
In the past few years, I have tried my best to discuss issues logically. But time after time after time I have had the experience where regardless of the specific issue, facts did not matter to my liberal friends. It was always about emotion. I would express again and again that President Bush did not steal the election, we did not go into Iraq for oil, Islam does teach conversion, submission or death, all of Obama's associations, his voting record, etc. – all of these talking points and more – and never once did they change their views. I have experienced all the stereotypical behavior: constantly changing the topic, condescension (especially the sugary sweet kind, like you're a silly child), repeating of false information even when you have clearly pointed it out, etc. And once they are done with this and they cannot refute your arguments (or even ATTEMPT to address them!) they choose to never speak to you again.
Nah. Let's examine what makes a tick liberal. They suck other peoples blood for their own personal gain! Drumroll……..
Maybe it's that both sides have their folks that lean towards emotion over logic.
To pretend it's just one is disingenuous.
I had a friend who thought if we weren't in Iraq we could have strengthened the levees in NO for Katrina, to which I could only ask, was NO only under sea level after we went into Iraq, or if you must, when Bush came into office. People with that mental disorder do not think logically, that's where the struggle comes for us normal people
I met a conservative that said an extreme thing once too.
Businesses that do not reduce carbon emissions should fail. People who have great healthcare should give it up so that people who have no healthcare can have some
This has to be parody. Otherwise this is the clearest example of the liberalism-is-a-disease I have ever seen.
If you, as an individual fail to reduce your carbon emissions, can we mark you as a failure and refuse to give you health-care? You know. To benefit everyone else? And surely you have some other freedoms you'd be willing to give up for the greater good? Your job perhaps? I'm sure someone else could use it more. No unemployment benefits though, I'm sure a homeless mother would be much more deserving and you'd give her yours. Might as well be the example. Right? I'm sure someone else will be sure to see your needs and step to make sure you're taken care of. That always works. Right?
"The comments posted were all similar. No one should go without health care in this country and no one should go broke because they got sick"
Let's examine how Obamacare affects these two ideals.
1) Under Obamacare care will be rationed as the demand increases and the supply is dwindled. Therefore there will be those that go without care.
2) Under Obamacare taxes will sky rocket to pay for the inferior plan bankrupting the average american citizen and the fortunate rich enough to fly to the Bahamas to get care the bureaucrats deny.
Hmmmm…………………………………
