Obama’s Next Folly – Health Care
by Frank DeMartiniPresident, it has to happen today, Obama is up to his tricks again. In February, the stimulus bill had to be passed immediately or disaster was waiting. “Cap and Trade” had to pass immediately or another crisis would occur. Now, it’s time for health care. The House must pass a health care bill this week or the American people will be in for another disaster.
So, Obama asks and Congress obeys! Here we have another 1,000 plus page bill winding its way through the House of which I am sure almost no member of Congress has read. Just get it done before anyone knows what’s going on. Make it happen fast! That appears to be the logic behind the President’s legislative agenda. If you get the ball rolling, pass it and sign it before anyone reads it.
We all know how much good the February stimulus bill did; none. If anyone had a chance to analyze it and the pork associated with it, it would have never passed. It looks like “Cap and Trade” may be dead in the Senate. People must have read it and told their Senators to make sure it dies. I guess things did not move fast enough.
Now, let us look at the health care bill. The rich are in for it again per the Democrats. The Democrats are proposing that the top income earners will see their income taxes increase in order to pay the approximate one trillion dollars that this bill will cost our future generations. The top tax rate would go up by 5.4%. This would be on couples earning more than one million dollars. The smallest increase would be on couples earning more than $350,000. They would get an additional tax bill of one percent of their income.
If you analyze those tax raises carefully, you will see that President Obama is now breaking one of his most vocal campaign promises. If you remember way back to last November, he preached to his loyal followers that “no one making less than $250,000 would get a tax increase.” Well if you do the math, an individual earning $175,000 will get a tax increase of one percent. You may ask how I came to this figure. Well, if couples earning $350,000 are getting taxed at a higher rate, an individual (single person) would be taxed at $175,000. That unfortunately is the way the tax code works.
The bill additionally states that any individual without medical insurance would be forced to pay a penalty of 2.5 percent of his/her income up to a cap of the cost of medical insurance. In Southern California medical insurance for an individual runs approximately $6,000 per year. So, someone making $250,000 per year would be paying $6,750 per year more in taxes. How did I get to this figure? Let’s not forget that one percent tax increase.
However, there is another break of the ultimate campaign promise here. The middle class wage earner making $50,000 per year would be penalized $1,250. You can call it a penalty or anything you want, but it is a tax. So, now the anointed one is proposing to raise taxes on the real middle class. This is not someone making $250,000 per year. It is not even close. To someone making $50,000 per year, $1,250 per year in additional taxes is a real blow. And, on top of it, the poor soul still would not have health insurance.
But, that not the real shot below the belt which is the penalty on employers for not providing health insurance. This proposed penalty is 8% of a worker’s wages. That means every company that does not provide health insurance will pay a penalty to the US Government in the amount of $8,000 per $100,000 of payroll.
Talk about messing with the middle class and the employment rates. Again, Obama and his economic geniuses are killing employment in this country. Do you think any business is going to absorb this cost?
If the company chooses to give health insurance, they will be forced to pay approximately $6,000 per employee in Southern California. This $6,000 would come from only a few places; one, the employee’s pocket, two, the consumer’s pocket, or, three from employees losing their jobs to pay for this mess. Companies are working at small enough margins as it is now with the economy in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. They are not going to absorb this kind of loss. Of course, the proponents of the bill are saying that there will be a small business exception to the requirements and penalties. How that will be defined in the final bill is anybody’s guess?
So, who will benefit from this plan? You may say the poor and uninsured. The poor already have access to health care. They just show up at emergency rooms and get treated or they qualify for Medicaid. So, it’s not them. It’s not the middle class. We already looked at that. It’s not the rich, since they are paying for it. It’s not the business owners since they are getting burned again. Who? NO ONE.
Yes, a large portion of people who are not insured will be under this plan. That is true. But, they will be paying for it either in the form of higher taxes or lower wages. Some people making less than $250,000 per year cannot afford that. In fact, as I said above, the poor soul making $50,000 per year cannot afford to lose $1,250.
To put it simply, this plan is a joke and should be killed this time before it even gets to the Senate. So, get your pens out and start writing your Congressmen again. If enough people complain about this crap going on in Congress, it might actually stop.
As an aside, I had lunch today with a fellow entertainment industry Republican, Michael Mandaville, and he had an interesting analysis of this health care bill. In the movie industry, people are hired usually for short periods of time during the course of a production of a film. On a union picture, most people have insurance, but not all. On a non-union film, almost no one has health insurance.
Under this proposed health care plan, a catastrophe will happen to the entertainment industry. Let’s say for arguments sake that 30 crew members on a film have no insurance. These 30 people will work an average of approximately three months on a film. If you figure that the average cost of health insurance is $500 per month, the budget of the film will go up $15,000 per month to cover these employees. Over the course of three months, that is an additional $45,000 added to the cost of making the movie. Say goodbye to film making in the United States. Whatever is still here, will be gone. (And, this whole analysis is based upon low budget movies. On a high budget movie, you could be talking an additional cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars).
Well, that’s about if for now. Until next week . . .

Actually that already happens in socialist countries. It's called Legal Aid. But you don't want that because the Lawyers get paid pittance and there are penalty ceilings. Also, like National Health, illegals take advantage and get free legalcare to the tune of millions and millions each year adding even more to the tax burden.
You may have been joking but I kid you not.
Conservatives seem to be concentrating on the costs of public healthcare, but I'd like to propose that the real issue is government intrusion into a private relationship with your doctor. Just like the abortion lobby says, government should "stay out of my body." "Well, the insurance companies play the same role as what the government proposes to do," say the pro-single payer crowd. My answer to that is that I would rather deal with an insurance company than the government on decisions regarding whether I live or die.
You may be onto something AlistZ. My apologies to Andrew and Lawhawk.
You can find your Congress person here by Zip Code or Name, http://tiny.cc/MnF6r. Please write them and say NO!
And using your metaphor Writer X we need to continue to send torpedoes into that ship until it hits the bottom, don't stop now.
We run a small business and pay over $800 a month to insure our family- but I would absolutely rather pay that than deal with the government. I can always try to shop from one insurance to another, deal with other options and thus my own choices, but I can't shop around with the government! Isn't the best government the least, one that basically leaves you alone?
Absolutely agree. Now, more than ever, people need to call their congressmen, their neighbor's congressman, anyone in Washington D.C. with a phone number. It's time to melt the phone lines.
All of this crap has been in the can for forty years, this is why no one has read it, no need to, …it’s an issue of faith for our ‘60s leftist. Stimulus, Cap-n-tax, Universal Healthcare …are nothing put power grabs by Washington government elitist. Stay vigilant and hassle your representatives, right and left.
If the liberals really wanted to help us with health care costs they would just make all medical payments tax deductible. Currently, you can only deduct those cost that are above 7.5% of your income. So if you make 50,000 a year you get to deduct all cost above 3750. So the liberals aren't for us paying less. They are for control of your life.

I'll support Obama's Healthcare Reform when it's mandatory that all members and employees of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Branches of our government use the same government healthcare option that's available to the average citizen………..LEAD BY EXAMPLE OR STFU.
Healthcare and Social Security will never be fixed until our government members and employees are on the same plan.
I know this may not be popular to say out loud, but I want this to pass. This Universal Health Care idea is going to be such a monumental failure ( and by monumental I mean literally not one person is going to benefit from this) and huge government expenditure that even the most myopic brain-dead liberal will finally realize that Progressive ideas DO NOT WORK! For a long time now I've contended that the best way to defeat the Democrats is to give them what they want. It's going to work with the Stimulus plan, Cap and Trade, and soon this too.
Not sure your film crew info is going to cause the calamity you predict, as most films are union, and everything that can go overseas has already gone. Even smaller films shot in the US often cut deals with unions for lower rates and reduced benefits. On a big budget project most crew members are already covered by health plans they signed up for through their unions. Keeping an existing plan isn't going to cost a producer any more than it currently does. People who already have insurance aren't going to be forced to give it up, and most film crew health plans are pretty decent. You can work with no health plan in place–this happened to me last year: I was on a show and discovered that a slump on '07 cost me my coverage for the end of '08, but three months of work made me enough for all of '09. What did I do for the three month gap? Bought the COBRA. Of course, absolutely nothing happened. Had I been injured without any insurance, however, I would have been covered by workman's comp or the previously mentioned emergency care.
BO is just doing things by the book.
Saul Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away"
Quote from Saul himself. If we follow BO path we all become Have-Nots. Except for the few who enforce the Glass Celling.
I certainnly agree with you that this disaster of a plan will not work but I sincerely doubt it will finally make the liberals realize that progressive ideas do not work. For that to happen, the liberals would have to realize that they are not always right and that they do not have a monopoly on good ideas. I have never seen a liberal yet who is capable of admitting that his ideas are wrong.
I've noticed a new concerted attempt by Obamaphiles to 'subvert' public opinion on Obama's Health Scare plan. Sites they normally couldn't give the slightest concern to are now drawing them likes flies. Maybe Obama feels his iron grip on American discourse slipping away (as it should).
What's the old saying?
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, SHAME ON ME!
First it was 'stimulis', then it was "cap and tax". What do you call it when you are fooled three times?
I have been trying to locate the Hissy Fit Obama had on Friday. His speech where he stalked off after declaring that he will sign the health care bill this year. Does anyone have the link?
How long before doctors say to hell with it? Many doctors already 'subsidize' the paltry Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements with regular private ins. revenues, because the govt. approved fees do not cover the related overhead. Govt. is incapable of doing anything cheaper than the private sector. I wouldn't believe any projected cost on anything the govt. proposes. It Does have a track record. It should embarrass them, not embolden.
Obamacare would dictate what kinds of treatment would be allowable and for whom. It's bureaucrats in Washington who would decide what treatments are 'viable' and which should not be offered. Just think about it. Normally, if you had a condition, your doctor would discuss all options available to you for treatment. He or she would tell you the pros and cons and the risks associated with the particular treatment; leaving it up to you to decide how you wished to proceed.
Under Obamacare and his vast bureaucracy, which needs to be staffed by thousands of Obamacare-exempt government employees, some table created by a committee of statisticians will tell the doctor which treatment option will be paid for (or worse, penalized in some form if the 'wrong' one is chosen) , and for which classification of patient it will be allowable for. If you want chemo and you are in your late 60s, Obamacare bureaucrats will determine what drugs are used, for how long, where they will be adminisered..if they will allow it at all. If you have a prematurely-born child with a heart valve problem, the Obamacare bureaucrat will dictate that a replacement valve operation is allowable, or may prohibit the operation until the child reaches the allowable age listed in the Obamacare regulations.
don't want that because the Lawyers get paid pittance
….I don't want that because the lawyers get paid pittance? That's exactly why I do want it. Why should a doctor go to school, work his ass off and then be told that the government is deciding what he is allowed to charge for a procedure, but a Lawyer goes to school, works his ass of and then can charge whatever the market will bear? Let's see if all the DC legal minds want National Health Care as much when we solve the overwhelming legal crisis in this country with the same prescription they have for Medical care.
Illegals are already getting public defenders to the tune of millions and millions each year. That's called "revenue neutral" in newspeak.
Here, here. Everytime someone says "Health care is a right". It shoudl be pointed out that you are now saying that you "Own" the productive effort of a doctor. If we decide that a Doctor can no longer go to school, put a shingle out, invite customers to come in and charge them what he wants, then we can do that to anyone. Hence my arguement regarding National Legal Care.

The belief that Health care is a "right" is immoral in nature and denies a core right to an individual who practices medicine.

Not to mention that there are more than just one insuance company. If you don't like your insurance company, you do have the option of shopping to the others to see if you can do better. And because you do have that option of taking your business elsewhere, the insurance companies do have some incentive still to try to keep their options competitively priced as much as possible to try to keep you as their customer. Sometimes, the price of low cost is the annoying hassle over services that we all experience and dread.
Putting it all in the arms of nanny Government won't change any of that. All it will do is ensure that we have no option to shop around and investigate other options if we don't like what our insurer says, and it will make sure that the price in trade-offs over care come at a worse and worse cost to us all.
No, not this. Cap and Trade maybe, but not this. This would do irreparable damage to our system. Some of us can't afford to play games like that with our lives. And once you get something like this passed into law, you will have less chance of rolling it back.
Cap and Trade would be far easier to roll all the way back and much less likely to do irreversible damage in the little time it would have to take effect.
I agree about the libs not admitting this is a bad idea. I recently read a comment left by some lib on HuffPo the other day that essentially said, "Well, the rich republicans don't want this bill to pass because then they'll have to wait in line like the rest of us. They don't want everyone to be even, and this bill will make everyone even." So, this person would be happy with crummy healthcare…just as long as EVERYONE got crummy healthcare! It's this kind of upside-down thinking that makes it virtually impossible for liberals to understand why this bill is so wrong.
You will also be REQUIRED to attend "End of Life" counseling starting at age 64!!!
This means you are a burden and should let the gov't kill you to benefit mankind (Congress exempted themselves…..)
obama wants to kill babies, the crippled and the old people.
His best friends are terrorists.
He is one sick twisted person.
This is the same philosophy that said it is better to let Obama win than vote for McCain since Obama would be such a monumental failure. While train wrecks may be fun to watch in movies, if you allow one to happen in real life then you are at fault for the collateral damage. We will be decades recovering from what has been done already, how much more "fun" do you think this nation can withstand?
Becoming a Democratic constituency. After three times they are confident they can fool you on anything forever.
And thats only if yr already itemizing, which for an average family must be over ~$15K in deductions.
But you guys are missing the bigger picture. Without letting somebody fail they will never learn to pick themselves up and try harder or smarter the next time. This is the fundamental arguement against socialism and all the crud that his being heaved upon us right now. Anything and everything can be rolled back or undone. Isn't it easier to return to something you like than to create something new you don't like? And you have to admit that far more liberals will suffer or die from Obama Care than will conservatives, so eventually they'll see the light (no pun intended).
This may sound "Pollyanna" like, but I'm working toward a law career, and not for the $$$$! It'll be a second career, I want to help people getting screwed over by the "system". Really! I'm not kidding! I'm not "high" or crazy!
Dispicable…really sickening…
Everyone out there that has a "conservative" democrat as a representative or senator beware. Since the dems have an overwelming majority, they are telling the "conservative" dems to vote against cap&tax and health care. They are doing this to allow those "conservative" dems to be re-elected with the notion that they voted against all these dumb programs – BUT the program passes anyway since the dems vastly out numbered the Repubs.
"Letting someone fail" could include pulling the 200,000 assorted federal, state, and local welfare programs. Good luck on being able to get any one of them "rolled back or undone." Welfare programs are like smoking, the best way to quit is to never start.
No, and Obama better thank his lucky stars that he did that hissy fit on the same day Walter Cronkite dies. That story sucked up all the oxygen on the news nets.
I'm sure O'Reilly will have something on it monday.
I have a nephew who was born with a leaky heart valve among other problems. He had open-heart surgery at 9 mos. He's one tough little kid. It is chilling to wonder what might have happened had he been born under Obamacare.
Not to be negative, but if I were a baby boomer I'd be very worried about Obamacare. Considering the sheer number of people in that group who are going to be needing more healtchare in the coming years vs. the amount of rationed care that would be available under Obama's plan, I'd be worried that I might be left out in the cold. I worry about my parents (ages 62, 57) under such a program.
Okay, I'll admit I'm wearing my tin foil hat, but just suppose all this "universal health care" isn't really about taking care of the uninsured but "taking care" of Pappy and Grandma. (Rationing would mean the sickest of these old fossils will croak waiting in the queue). It's time for them to go. First of all, they've been collecting Social Security since they turned 65. AND, look at all that money they have in their individual retirement accounts. At least those who worked and saved. Time for them to moveon.org. With Obamawama's sights fixed on grabbing their assets and they not having access to smart lawyers who know how to sock the funds away from the IRS, when they kick the bucket, look at all the budks that'll pour into the coffers which he can then distriute to "those who earned it" — code for those who voted for him.
When Big Daddy FDR conjured up his Ponzi scheme in the 1930's, there was no penicillin, chemotherapy, surgery was in its infancy and life expectancy at birth was 58 for men and 62 for women. WOW! What a deal! Add in that workers paid in their whole working careers and if they kicked off at 64 1/2, it didn't cost SS a red dime. No way did FDR and his socialistic buddies figure that Salk would come up with a vaccine for polio, Hume would come up with kidney transplants, DeBakey would figure out how to fix abdominal aneurysms, Cushing would start opening up crania and those damned heart surgeons would not only revascularize coronary arteries so that heart attacks didn't take out the fat old guys at 60 anymore, Shumway and Lower would start transplanting hearts. Damn!
Time for "universal health care".
Well let's see. Social Security has been underfunded and headed for bankruptcy for as long as I can remember. It is either facing cutting benefits or raising taxes and in about six years they will not be able to avoid dealing with it. It began as a one percent tax matched by your empoloyer. Now it's a 3 1/2 percent tax matched by your employer.
Illegal immigrants are artificially adding 7 billion a year to the system by using fake SS cards, which is one of the reaasons no administration really wants to illegal immigration.
Anyone who tries to retire on SS benefits alone will be living at the poverty level.
Find a liberal who thinks SS is a failure.
Universal Legal Care
The average guy can't afford decent legal care. The wealthy (Bill Clinton and OJ) hire teams of lawyers, the poor guy gets a third rate public defender. Millions of people go bankrupt trying to cope with expensive legal bills.
Having a single payer Univeral Legal Care system will solve all the problems. No more worry about getting a lawyer, rich and poor alike must belong to LPO's where they are assigned Legal Care on a completely random basis, and the cost of all Legal "Procedures" is set by the government. The rich can no longer buy the best care while the poor suffer. The Governent Legalcaid and Legalcare payments will drastically cut legal costs. Billions and billions will be saved, which then can be spent on Health Care!
Demand a Single Payer Legal Care system. If it's good for Doctors, it's good for Laywers too!
This is a very good point. Don't forget that the Democrats are the ones that moved us into Employer-provided Health Insurance in the first place. Imagine how highly competitive the market would become if everyone was shopping for their own insurance. And additionally, since some of the most expensive people to insure are the smokers/drinkers/sedentary, imagine how many would be incentivized to changing their lifestyles when their personal cost to be insured reflects their behavior.
National health care works on the principle of reaching a lower average cost by spreading the bill across everyone regardless of their personal behaviors and lifestyles. The guy that exercizes and eats and drinks moderatley will be subsidizing the unhealthy's lifestyle even further.
Commie-care is a bad freakin' idea in every way
Somewhere in all this mess there is (or was) also a provision that makes it illegal for employers to add new hires onto their health benefit plans meaning those individuals will either have to pick up private plans out of pocket or go government eventually phasing out all employer plans altogether.
That may have gotten trimmed out, or given the way they are putting crap together, it totally conflicts and no one has read the bill to figure it out.
I also love the way Obama has announced that they will "reign in costs by reducing the amount the government will pay out in Medicare and Medicaid." That's really code for punishing the rest of us who refuse to accept his government plan. If the government pays less, the rest of us will pay more through our suddenly more expensive private insurance plans and businesses who provide health care benefits will likewise be punished with increasing costs. Someone needs to start shouting that the costs don't change. The only thing that changes is who ends up paying.
AMERICA’S NATIONAL HEALTHCARE EMERGENCY!
It’s official. America and the World are now in a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. A World EPIDEMIC with potential catastrophic consequences for ALL of the American people. The first PANDEMIC in 41 years. And WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES will have to face this PANDEMIC with the 37th worst quality of healthcare in the developed World.
STAND READY AMERICA TO SEIZE CONTROL OF YOUR NATIONAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.
We spend over twice as much of our GDP on healthcare as any other country in the World. And Individual American spend about ten times as much out of pocket on healthcare as any other people in the World. All because of GREED! And the PRIVATE FOR PROFIT healthcare system in America.
And while all this is going on, some members of congress seem mostly concern about how to protect the corporate PROFITS! of our GREED DRIVEN, PRIVATE FOR PROFIT NATIONAL DISGRACE. A PRIVATE FOR PROFIT DISGRACE that is in fact, totally valueless to the public health. And a detriment to national security, public safety, and the public health.
Progressive democrats the Tri-Caucus and others should stand firm in their demand for a robust government-run public option for all Americans, with all of the minimum requirements progressive democrats demanded. If congress can not pass a robust public option with at least 51 votes and all robust minimum requirements, congress should immediately move to scrap healthcare reform and request that President Obama declare a state of NATIONAL HEALTHCARE EMERGENCY! Seizing and replacing all PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance plans with the immediate implementation of National Healthcare for all Americans under the provisions of HR676 (A Single-payer National Healthcare Plan For All).
Coverage can begin immediately through our current medicare system. With immediate expansion through recruitment of displaced workers from the canceled private sector insurance industry. Funding can also begin immediately by substitution of payroll deductions for private insurance plans with payroll deductions for the national healthcare plan. This is what the vast majority of the American people want. And this is what all objective experts unanimously agree would be the best, and most cost effective for the American people and our economy.
In Mexico on average people who received medical care for A-H1N1 (Swine Flu) with in 3 days survived. People who did not receive medical care until 7 days or more died. This has been the same results in the US. But 50 million Americans don’t even have any healthcare coverage. And at least 200 million of you with insurance could not get in to see your private insurance plans doctors in 2 or 3 days, even if your life depended on it. WHICH IT DOES!
If President Obama has to declare a NATIONAL STATE OF EMERGENCY to rescue the American people from our healthcare crisis, he will need all the sustained support you can give him. STICK WITH HIM! He’s doing a brilliant job.
THIS IS THE BIG ONE!
THE BATTLE OF GOOD Vs EVIL!
Join the fight.

Jacksmith – WORKING CLASS
One of the mantras of the talking heads for the last fifteen years has been "A person's health care should not depend on the decision of some bean-counter at an HMO." This usually leads to a examble where some poor schnook was denied a life-saving oepration by some Uriah Heep working for an insurance company. Yet now the administration is proposing that these decisions be made by some Heepish bureaucrat working for the government. Although the Dems will never admit it, "health care reform" has little to do with little Suzy getting an appendectomy and everything to do with raw political power. The huge bureucratic ziggaraut that will be built as the result of "national health care" will rapidly become an AFSCME (or related union) boondoggle guaranteed to sluice money into Democratic coffers. Obama came up through the Democratic party machine of Cook County where government jobs are still the lifeblood of politics. the new health care "system" will provide plenty of patronage and tons of grant money to favored groups, all of which will be used to reward administration supporters.
President Obama and his health care plan–a sinking ship. Of course he wants to pass the bill quickly; the more people learn about it, the more they realize how bad it is.
I also read an article this morning that explains how the new health care bill tightly controls and/or prohibits hospitals from expanding and how/where hospitals and Doctors may invest. Can you say Marxism?
There are rare procedures that have actually been done while the child is still in the womb! These were achieved by doctors willing to risk their reputations, if not their entire careers, doing the near impossible in order to preserve life. No Obamacare bureaucrat would ever risk their comfy and union-protected job for the life of another. Heck, I bet that they'd refuse to take a late lunch in order to finish processing a request for someone's life or death surgery.
Funny thing…HMOs were the brainchild of Teddy Kennedy; one of the architects of the Senate plan. The thing with an HMO beancounter, is that there is a way to appeal the decision. If there was really a crisis regarding HMO decisions, the Congress could mandate a 'blind' appeals board to look at the facts surrounding a claim, and decide whether the procedure was covered or necessary.
How about universal lawn-care?
I agree absolutely. Conservatives need to stop making everything about money. The cost is important, but always objecting on the basis of cost reinforces the liberals complaint that the right only cares about money. Conservatives need to argue individual freedoms before all else. Taxation impinges on an individuals most basic freedom-to control the fruits of their labor!
Stop it. You are scaring me.
Hey guess what? Your fear mongering doesn't work here.
Along with the obvious need for them to "control" medical costs by denying the elderly needed healthcare, as well as others that are deemed undesirable, there is another BIG reason Obama is trying to ram this through:
http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2009/06/red-aler...
I find it amazing that liberals believe they are more compassionate.
What a dope. He's exactly what the Democrat party hopes is out there. Lemmings without thought and are easily duped into anything. Worst health care system in the world? Why do people fly here from other countries to get life saving treatments done?
Well I am old enough to have lived through th Carter Presidency. I thought God this guy is the worst of my lifetime. I was wrong. Lock and Load people.
Only the elderly Serfs will be denied. People like that scum Ted Kennedy will still have the best of care. Do you think us pawns would still be alive with the cancer he has as long as he has lasted?
Hey, that's not fair. I don't have a lawn! And it would only benefit those rich fat cat Congresspersons and their wealthly lawn having cronies and, of course, Big Lawn Care!
Hey, that's not fair. I don't have a lawn! And it would only benefit those rich fat cat Congresspersons and their wealthly lawn having cronies and, of course, Big Lawn Care!
My mower's broken. I'm all for it.
Carter was inept. This guy is malicious against the free market.
Carter was inept. This guy is malicious against the free market and he KNOWS what he's doing.
Is it me, or does it seem like the "Disasters" happen "after" Obama fixes things? This guy's pulling crisis situations out of his a**. He's the crisis! Funny that I don't remember the bread lines before he took office.
I can't wait for 2012………….if we make it!
I know how you feel. Clinton's sins against the country now seem pale in comparison to the outright treachery being employed by Obumble. And ToddM is right- he knows exactly what he is doing. It is truly frightening to behold.
This is the (unprintable) who as an Illinois senator allowed babies who survived abortions, as in were "accidentally" born, to be set aside to die rather than attempts to save them be made. In response to complaints, he considered it an improvement they were given blankets in a room while dying rather than merely left in a closet to die. Premature baby, lots of expenses up front with possibly a lifetime of higher than normal health costs and less productivity, if productive at all, if they even survive? What do you think ObamaCare will really do for preemies?
Here's a scary thought. What if it fails. Do you really thing that Obama will say "oops, my bad! I guess we'll switch back to the old system"? NO! He'll do what Democrats always do, more spending, more government interference and less freedom.
Being a liberal means never having to say you're wrong.
You may have to stick to "neutral" areas like property law and estate planning. There are lots of "little people" getting screwed over in property disputes. With estate planning you can help people protect what they earned. A major part of that is setting things up well before long-term care happens. While I believe in "paying your fair share," I would have no problem helping people remove assets from the sight of Medicaid if that is what it takes for them to qualify when the time comes. It is only just since Medicare should be covering such due to all the money paid in during a lifetime of working, you are remedying a broken government promise with one they cannot deny.
Otherwise, if you get into defense law you will end up (even more?) cynical seeing all the people who should have known better. You do not want to be an ambulance chaser. You may even want to avoid helping people "fight for their rights" to certain government benefits, leave it to the bleeding-hearts not yet burnt out or those in it for the paycheck. I have friends on SSI all their lives, it is hard to keep my sympathy in check when I see them trapped in a system that keeps them at poverty level, discourages working, even penalizes for having savings, thus giving them no noticeable chance to advance and succeed. I can even understand why they frequently go off and loudly demand "their rights" to any number of things, since after having to fight the government for so long for anything they can get it has become automatic to turn up the volume. And that is despite them actually being better off than me at various points of my working career.
If I was stuck helping people like them "fight the system" professionally, in ten years I would either be voting Democratic, or would be through that phase and desiring "a solution" involving first digging very large pits…
Sadly syvyn11, you are correct. Statists/Marxists care about intentions not results.
Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.
I have a question. Why in the world would anyone go to the time and/or the expense of going to Medical school if the Health/Death Care program passes? The government will now tell doctors who they can see, when they can see them, what he or she can prescribe and whether or not they may perform surgery. That's not a doctor, that's a 'dispencer'.
Besides, this same individual could go to work for GM or GE or one of the other government-owned companies and work for the 'union' and make as much – if not more – than a doctor. It's a no brainer.
Our representatives are not listening to the majority of average citizens who are absolutely against rushing into another major fiasco. They're bowing to pressure and bribes in the form of meaningless amendments to bills that they haven't even read! How much more damage will our country have to endure?
They'll just say that they "guessed wrong" again.
For me it gets worse – I am actually pining for those innocent days of Billy Bob Clinton! I never thought I would see the day when I would pine for a Clinton…
THIS IS THE BIG ONE!
THE BATTLE OF GOOD Vs EVIL!
Well, you're right about that- only you're shilling for the wrong side.
On http://www.newsmax.com there is an article about Republicans trying to get an amendment to the health bill, that would stop illegal alien's from getting on this…..LaRaza is demanding illegals be on it.
The Dems shot down the amendment! Also they are talking about making cuts for certain treatments for Medicare and Medicaid receipients…….
Our government has officially decided to throw our elderly overboard, for a bunch of illegal aliens! And get this, LaRaza wants Hispanics that make up to $66,000 to get all of it free!
So now we have Union members that probably won't have to pay anything and now illegals!
Please, research what they are doing and stop them….we are becoming serfs to our own government and to all the world's people!
The Dems will not pay any taxes per Tax-Cheat Geitner. All liberals think the conservatives will pay all their taxes.
Heil…Heil…Heil…
WOW Jack what about Free Enterprise and hard work?
THERE IS NO HEALTHCARE CRISIS IN AMERICA! 84% OF THE PEOPLE IN AMERICA ARE SATISFIED WITH THEIR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. THEY ARE UPSET OVER THE COST OF HEALTHCARE. THAT DOES NOT EQUAL A CRISIS, NOR DOES IT SIGNAL A NEED TO TOTALLY REDO THE BEST HEALTHCARE IN THE WORLD ENJOED BY THE USA. ALL OTHER COMMENTS ARE JUST OBAMA SALESMEN TRYING TO JAM SOCIALISM DOWN THE THROATS OF THOSE AMERICANS THAT ARE SMART ENOUGH TO SEE THROUGH OBAMA AND AXELROD'S SCAM. DON'T LISTEN. THE OBAMAMEDICALMESS WILL TOTALLY DESTROY OUR ECONOMY AND OUR MEDICAL SERVICES AVAILABILITIES. FIGHT THIS THING. IT IS LIES!!!
screwed by the Big O.
I agree with you. Who cares about a bunch of sick, sad old people anyway, who worked their butts off their entire life and tried to do the right thing. The kind of people who PAID for car insurance versus the losers who just drive around in a junker thumbing their nose at the system – the kind of people who PAID for their insurance premiums instead of spending their money on cigarettes and beer and flashy, spiffy rides and houses they can't afford. With Obamacare, only Acorn members, liberal hippies, rappers, and thugs and the uninformed idiot voter will be covered–you know–the people who really count.
I heard Obama was going to start the "full court press". I guess he really meant something, for once.
Unfortunately, I'm not buying.
No thank you. Obama and Jack@@.
Oh, it CANNOT fail. If this thing fails, it is going to be a MAJOR blow to Obummer's perceived power and maybe even his mojo. That's why he basically makes someone else do all the work, and then flies around the country at $500,000 a pop just "signing" stuff. He's going to distance himself as far away from it as possible if this thing doesn't fly. And God forbid it does.
If this bill was GREAT for America, he would want the minions to read about it and tell everyone… what he is actually doing is RAMMING it down the throats of the country and senate he wants it passed NOW AND NOW isnt fast enough…. he does not want anyone to read it and pull it apart one page at a time and find out what he is ABOUT TO DO TO THIS COUNTRY… moving it closer and closer to SOCIALISM…… PLEASE everyone call write/fax and everything in your power to make a stink about this and WHY IT SHOULD NOT PASS!!!!!
I am old enough to remember the Carter presidency as well….. what a farce and sham that man was.. just like Obama, we need to get this man out and out fast.. or else the next 3.5 years will be the downfall of the United States..
I am old enough to remember the Carter presidency as well….. what a farce and sham that man was.. just like Obama ONLY WORSE!!!!!! we need to get this man out and out fast.. or else the next 3.5 years will be the downfall of the United States..
Then of course there's this sad angle to the whole mess- this just in from Newsmax:
"On Friday, Democrats moved one step closer to giving free health insurance to the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal aliens when they successfully defeated a Republican-backed amendment, offered by Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., that would have prevented illegal aliens from receiving government-subsidized health care under the proposed plan backed by House Democrats and President Barack Obama."
It pretty much speaks for itself- and our country is pretty much doomed if this passes.

If you believed BO's campaign promises then you should get what you deserve. The Media bought this president and they are still backing him and the Washington Democrats. Every issue is hurry up issue because America is catching on. Contact your Congressman and Senator and demand that we need Heath Care that is a Free Enterprise. STOP Taking our Freedoms Away!!! We need a Government to be fiscal responsible. STOP Cap and Trade! We can not afford any more mistakes!!!
One positive thing is the Democrats are wearing out their welcome. It took 12 years for them to recover from Carter. It will be 16 years for them to recover from BO.

The biggest problem with the national health care is the lack of a copay. All of the insurance companies have found that people first decide that they need to go to the doctor if they have a copay. Otherwise, they would just go and take up space for every minor ache, sniffle and cough. The copay places value on the doctor and the visit, and the patient gets care when they think they need it. The reason the health care industry is currently failing is for the simple reason it has people that have no copay. The result is that people place no value in wasting the time of doctors and hospitals everywhere. That expense is then passed back to the consumer in the next rate hike. Obamacare will destroy the system entirely, and the quality of all health care recipients will suffer.

As a professional whatever, no. But I have always been an outsider socially, never was wired to schmooze and booze. I learned my social skills by observation, and learned a lot about human behavior.
You sold cars for a living for a long time, you were up-front and honest in your dealings. You are a bit of a white knight, you have a strong sense of what is right and want to do whatever possible to help those in need, riding in to defend people. But it can be a short trip from white knight to messiah, wanting to help everyone possible instead of just those you come across.
We'll make sure he owns this. If america goes bankrupt, he'll be the one responsible.

I think Obama is finally a president who is living up to his campaign promises. The current US healthcare system is a failed system for many. And I am not too small to understand that I may need to live with higher costs for some time for the benefit of people who currently have no recourse for medical treatment. In the long run, costs will come down and just like car insurance medical insurance will be available to most people.
