Is The Republican Party Lost?
by Frank DeMartiniEvery article you read these days from the liberal media has a very clear message: the Republican Party is dead and should be buried. Conservatism is in shambles. The Democrats have the upper hand and the correct solution for the country. Tax and Spend is working. The Stimulus is working. Foreign powers love us. All is happy in liberal land.
I beg to differ. In fact, I believe the evidence is stronger each day that the Republican Party is making inroads into the Democratic “majority.” The election happened and Obama and the Democrats are in power. We have to live with that for another 18 months. But when one looks at the trends a new picture begins to develop.
All evidence indicates that the country is going the other way and still leans center-right. Look at what happened in Virginia yesterday. In a hotly contested Democratic primary for governor, R. Creigh Deeds, a conservative Democrat, whooped an ex-head of the DNC and staunch supporter of the Clintons. Deeds is about as far to the right as the Democratic Party gets. He is so pro-gun that he supports concealed weapons in bars and nightclubs. I’m not even sure if I go that far.
Why did Deeds get the nomination? Well, according to every article and news report, it is because the Virginia Democrats are afraid of losing the governorship in November to the Republican candidate. Robert McDonnell is a staunch Republican Conservative and the Virginia populace is definitely to the right regardless of whether the state went with Obama. A liberal Democrat is never going to win Virginia right now and probably never.
Another example can be seen by the current events in the New York Legislature. The Democrats which have had control of the New York Senate for as long as anyone can remember have physically locked the chamber to keep the new majority Republicans from enacting any legislation. How has this happened? Well, two members of the Senate switched sides tipping the scales in favor of the Republicans. The Democrats, according to Governor Patterson, a Democrat, are now acting like children and have physically taken the keys to the chamber to stop the Republicans from doing anything. In fact, they are refusing to recognize that two of their brethren have abandoned them.
Speaking of Governor Patterson maybe we should talk about his approval rating for a minute. This is the man that became governor after Eliot Spitzer resigned in disgrace about a year ago for being the typical Democratic hypocrite. He “played” with the people he took on. Governor Patterson’s approval ratings are so low that some people believe that a Republican may actually have a chance to win New York. That would be only the second Republican to hold office in New York since 1975. The last, George Pataki, took power during the Republican revolution in the mid-nineties and barely lasted two terms.
What would happen if New York gets a Republican governor in the next election cycle? With California currently having a Republican governor and a strong potential candidate in Meg Whitman, the top two states would be Republican. If you factor in Texas and Florida which are third and fourth in population, and both of which have Republican incumbents, you would have approximately 32% of the US Population controlled by Republican governors in just four states. To me that doesn’t sound like a dead party! Rather, it sounds like one that has the potential for a strong majority.
On the national front, Nancy Pelosi’s current popularity is at the lowest it’s ever been. According to a Gallup poll released on Friday, Pelosi’s ratings are currently at 34%. If I’m not mistaken, these are lower than President Bush’s at the end of his administration. In fact, the same poll showed that Ex Vice President Dick Cheney’s popularity is actually higher at 37%. Eight months ago, this was one of the most disliked men in the country. I guess that speech he gave a few weeks ago on National Security and the effects of 9/11 made a lot of the population think.
One of the most important facts about these poll numbers is where the change is actually coming from. Both Ms. Pelosi’s fall and Mr. Cheney’s rise are directly related to a change in independent electorate which went strongly Democratic last November. And, we all know that is where elections are won.
Just yesterday, the Obama spin started on the stimulus package. The President stopped talking about creating jobs and started talking about saving jobs. How will anyone prove the accuracy of his statement yesterday that 150,000 jobs were saved as a result of the stimulus package so far? Last month the economy lost more than 500,000 jobs net. That’s a loss, plain and simple. When that number turns around and there is job growth in a month, then he can start to claim credit. But, by saying that 150,000 jobs were saved last month, he is making it look like the stimulus worked when there is no proof one way or the other. It’s spin, pure and simple.
Newt Gingrich, it seems, is already running for President and his popularity is growing. At a conference in the past few days, he stated that Obama has already failed. And, he is strongly criticizing Ms. Sotomayor. Maybe, the American public is beginning to agree. For the first time, the President’s approval rating has sunk below 60%. I predict it will be teetering around 50% by the end of the year.
Jon Voight publicly stated at the same conference that he is embarrassed by the President and that the President will cause the downfall of this country. Jon Voight, who in my opinion is a great American, should probably think about running for Congress. I am still moved by his Memorial Day comments about Hollywood being in a sorry state when it cared more about Earth Day than Memorial Day.
Why is this change happening so shortly after the “Democratic Revolution?” I can answer that one, but it would take a book. To put it simply, the American people are beginning to see this Administration for what it is: A return to the failed policies of Jimmy Carter and Democrats of the seventies. Weakness in Foreign Affairs and out-of-control spending will not sit with the American electorate at either the national or state level. And, unfortunately, that is what the first five months of President Obama’s Administration has brought. And, unfortunately, that appears to be what the future will bring as well.

I agree the Republican Party is not even close to being dead. The same was said about the Democrats after 2004. I believe the Republicans could have won the presidency last fall except for the timing of the lending meltdown and the lack of campaign prowess by McCain. A huge key is to recapture both houses of Congress and make it fillibuster proof.
the answer to the above question is, of course, No…
Mr Obama and his minions located the party, wndering aimlessly. Gave it a new sense of purpose, and unity.
Re-invigorated the debate, re-defined conservatism, and injected a massive amount of energy into a dispirited bunch.
Thanks, Barry…
Four years of President Obama and his failed policies and broken promises and people will vote for Donald Duck before they'd ever vote for him again, no matter how the media tries to spin it. He's a one-term president.

I think Newt or someone like him, must come to the front, Romney is OK but he is not a fire brand. Newt carries a lot of baggage and incites hate almost as much as V.P. Cheney. I think Palin would make a good number two and of course I would support her as number one, she would have such an up hill battle with the press however. And that could work to her benefit. I just want someone to LEAD!
Frank, are you related to Warren?
Completely agree with you. Someone who can lead unapolgetically and not pander.
California doesn't have a Republican Governor and anywhere clinton campaigns the candidate always looses..
Good luck NY. Careful not to elect another Arnold RINO
I have said on BH many times this country is conservative. Lets all remember that Barry, and Blue Dog Democrats ran as centrist and are now serving as a liberal dingbats. Liberals always hide their stripes, but today they’re strutting around real proud of their liberalism. I say, haul a$$ left to all our commie friends, expose yourself, so we can finally begin to vanquish our misguided ‘60s radical brethren, and their offspring once and for all, starting in 2010.
One guy I had high hopes for was Representative Duncan Hunter from California. He dropped out early last time, probably due to lack of name recognition and money. Whoever it is, though needs to be charismatic. So much of presidential elections anymore is packaging the right message in a way you can sell it. In that regard, I must admit Obama's tele-prompter is highly skilled at the sales part of the equation.
I still would like to see Condi Rice included somehow. Why not beat the Dem's at their own game? Condi would bring the invaluable foreign policy "gravitas" to the table, she speaks well and is intelligent. Like Governor Palin, she may still need some political seasoning . Perhaps the second spot would be good.
I don't know why anyone sweats what lefties say. Let me remind you:
A) They live, literally, in a fantasy world. It's a world of their own invention, having nothing to do with the real one. Consequently, they have no accurate view of anything.
B) They lie. They lie as a matter of principle, because they have deliberately separated themselves from the truth and from reality. Lying is so habitual to them that they lie even when the truth would serve them better.
C) They are, on the whole, not that bright or well-educated. In many cases, they're flat-out stupid and hillbilly ignorant. That goes for their big guns as well as the also-rans like their so-called "journalists."
In short, you can safely ignore everything spewing from a liberal's mouth, because it is either wrong or a lie. On the off-chance that a leftie ever gets something right, it's purely by accident and you will hear it from more reliable sources anyway, so just ignore them and keep on keepin' on.
I was a huge Dunter Hunter fan also! sigh. He represents my political beliefs and is a true Conservative. Rep. Hunter's campaign took off like wildfire at the beginning of the Primary, he actually won the straw poll in Texas. Then he quickly was overshadowed by lack of media coverage. Too bad.
Here's my fantasy: Hunter/Palin 2012
The Republican Party/Conservative Movement is not dead! It is just fully waking up.
Believe me, besides Conservatives, there are a lot of Blue Dog Democrats and Independents that are not happy with what is happening to our Country.________
I was born and raised in Virginia. Creigh Deeds is a democrat in the old Byrd tradition. So is Virginia historically. The "republican" Va. that the party imagines is the true core of Va. politics were the old conservative Byrd machine dems who got sick of loony liberalism and went with Reagan. But they were never "republicans". Va has never been an historically republican state. None of the South has. The Reagan years were an aberration, not the norm. Bush Republicans betrayed these conservative democrats and they have gone home to build a new democratic party. Are repubs that stupid to believe otherwise?
The Republican party has faltered, but conservatism is still strong. And the reason it faltered is because it failed the conservative base. Once the GOP recognizes its mistake the party will come roaring back. I have no doubt about it and I'm not at all worried about the future of the GOP. They'll eventually figure it out. I only worry about how long it will take for the party to figure it out. Time is not unlimited. The Left is taking this country apart by the day.
===Well, two members of the Senate switched sides tipping the scales in favor of the Republicans. The Democrats, according to Governor Patterson, a Democrat, are now acting like children and have physically taken the keys to the chamber to stop the Republicans from doing anything.===
We're a banana republic. An army of pygmies in loin cloths with spears could take over this castrated and feminized nation.
From what I'm reading, it's not the Republican party rising up from the ashes as it is the Obama/Ried/Pelosi alliance falling flat on it's face. Obama is personally popular but professionally shedding numbers. The Republicans, except for a very few like Gingrich and Limbaugh, are keeping a pretty low profile. Without an honest press, it's as if the Republican politicians are waiting for the Democrats to fall smartly on their overly ambitious swords. I figure with the Sotomayor and nationalized Health Care debate, not to mention it's whopping price tag, and the ruined economy looming on the horizon, the Afghanistan ramp-up and Guantanamo quagmire, Obama should just about ruin his own professed image with more broken champaign promises. IF the Republicans can focus on the middle american perspective and start speaking intelligently maybe the country will start to see Obama for what he has always been, a tax and spend liberal. If Mr Ambition then tries to push through another illegal immigration amnesty folly disguised as a 'inside track to citizenship' then he can take the shambles of his administration and hope Iran and Korea don't ruin his day.
As a fiscal conservative and a registered Republican, I'll give my vote to whomever actually reduces government spending. Blue Dog Dem or Repub.
I'm done with big spending RINOs like my own Senator Specter.
The Will to Live in Freedom is stronger than any political party or system. History is replete with examples. The Republican Party Dead ? The Republican Party Redivivus but only if the party candidates and party leaders play hard ball and go nose to nose with these Quasi Gangster Faux Americans who have hi-jacked the once proud Demorcat Party and once back in Office they Must Walk the Talk or else Learn to live in the Political Wilderness they've condemned themselves and us in… for a very long time.
How do you explain Eric Cantor? Also, how do you mean "Bush Republicans betrayed conservative dems"? Do you mean in the way Bush betrayed all fiscal conservatives or in another sense?
Definitely, the Republican Party strayed and needed to be taught a lesson. However the left, in their arrogance, believe they won a mandate to impose their extreme leftist agenda on the public. Sorry, but USA is still mostly a conservative country. The public will have a sense that they over-corrected by the results of the last election and the Obama phenomenon (fraud) was a huge factor too.
I am sure that after the damage that will be done by these neo-socialist Democrats, conservatism and any Republicans willing to be real conservatives, will be back in power.
But I would not read too much into RINOs like Schwarzenegger as proof of the bright future of Republicans. RINOs ultimately hurt conservatism.
Great points. Lousy avatar.
I agree with all your points except about liberals being not well-educated. In fact they are over-educated.
It doesn't give they any common sense however, as you stated.
I think lefties like bureaucratic education so much because it is another way for them to spend our hard-earned tax dollars. Parasites that they are.
It seems after almost 250 years it'd be obvious there's ALWAYS going to be dems and cons. One side gets in power, then blows it, then the other side gets in power and blows it. And the circle of life continues.
It'd be nice if people acknowledged that not everyone on the other "team" lives in a "fantasyland" and always lies and blah blah, but that's the attitude what keeps the back-and-forth going on.
I hope nobody is holding his breath waiting for California to go conservative. A charismatic national leader like Reagan can carry the state, but they're few and far between. At the state level, there are strong conservative nests in the Central Valley, the Southern border areas and some of the "cow counties." But the huge metropolitan centers are moderate/liberal, and with the influx of large numbers of legal and illegal immigrants, growing more radical all the time. A strong gubernatorial conservative could win statewide, but who are they. The best conservatives hold state assembly and senate seats or isolated Congressional seats, but they are not well-known nor particularly charismatic. I think there will be a Republican resurgence, moving slightly right, but don't count on California to help much. On the other hand, New York is now one-up on us. I don't remember the Democrats ever locking the Republicans out of the state capitol here. And we haven't been close to a majority in fifteen years in either house of the legislature.
Absolutely Right…The Strong Obey When a Strongman Shows Them the Way.
I agree but it's one term to long Brother.
I think Palin blew it for your guys. And Bush was a saint.
even I wouldn't be that optimistic, but thanks for the good analysis on the golden state. p.s. great job with the new site.
I agree whole-heartedly. Liberals are, without a doubt, the stupidest people on the planet. Liberals are proof that an education means nothing. The sad fact is that all of the liberals I know got their warped view of life from people they consider smart and well educated. But most people simply are not all that smart. Most people are just plain dumb. What a lot of people do not seem to understand is that education is not some kind of pot of gold at the end of a rainbow that every person can use to achieve success. Education is like every other opportunity. Only those capable of exploiting the opportunity get anything from it.
What's really unfortunate in the whole dumbing down of American society is the loss of recognition that intelligence matters. It stopped mattering a long time ago. Equal Opportunity morphed into Affirmative Action which morphed into Equal Outcomes. We live in a society now where a college degree is seen as a right every kid should have, and where that college "education" they get today is dumber than a high school diploma, and if a kid washes out of college it's the system's fault.
Achievement means nothing because we're all the same. Conservatives are not better educated anymore, they're simply smarter. Can't have that.
Seriously, 'cause what could we do to them? Shoot them? That would be hateful!
I remember your other posts and I've a got feeling you Blow It and Your No Saint.
Thank you kind sir, on both counts.
Some important things you are forgetting Jed. Besides FNC and talk radio, the dems had a strangle hold on the MSM. They still do. And for the next three years and four months, they will be blaming republicans (even though we are out of power), gloss over Commrade-President Obama's record, demonize conservativea and preach that we need to not only listen to but make our party's leaders McCain, Powell and the other members of the 'moderate' wing of the party.
We have a uphill battle.
God bless you, Frank, you're seeing things with a clear view, which seems rare these days. I've been telling people the same thing for months. I knew that Pelosi would eventually be seen as toxic by most of the population, just as I knew that Mr. Dirty Chicago Politics would screw up so badly it wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't out of office before his term is up. I've also been telling people "We vote again in Twenty Ten" and that the Dems are going to be thrown out by the score in that election.
Why do you think the lib media is trumpeting this "GOP is dead" garbage so often? They're scared to death that it isn't true, and that's why they go after Sarah (God bless her) Palin so often and with such vileness and ferocity.
Even in Europe, they're wising up with recent elections.
They declared God dead a while back, too, but it didn't work out for them, did it?
Donald Duck? He's a quack.
Obama has awakened us all. We didn't appreciate what we had. Now we do. The dead weight Republicans in Congress are moving on. Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan and others are diamonds being polished. Mitt Romney needs more air time. He makes so much sense when he in front and center. Rush Limbaugh should be broad cast again at night and have an hour on TV.
Liberals think they can shut us up by playing the race card. It's time to speak out and let American know who are the real racist. And how about that fuzzy Obama math. Everytime a lib says he is cutting taxes on 95% of American. Shout back, ONLY 45% PAY TAXES! Now how does that work.
Come on folks get out and ask these questions of your Congressmen.
Why has Obama spent over $900,000 in legal fees to block seeing his birth certificate. If he was born here, why doesn't he have the certifcate in the Smithsonian for everyone can see.
We are running out of time. The libs are organizing the Unions, Acorn and going to nationalize millions of mexicans to get out and vote. And old George Soros is pouring his money into the liberals campaign state and federal. Please do what ever you can. We can't let Obama destroy our country.
I think this is the problem. Remember the Republcian Listening Tour of a month or two ago? McCain, Eric Cantor, Jeb Bush, Romney. These are the people who have control of the official "Republican Party". They represent big-money interests, and inside the beltway cronyism, and although they will pay lip service to conservatism, they can not be counted on. Gingrich, Palin and other actual conservatives had nothing to do with the tour.
I personally think that John Boehner, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnel and a few other people need to fall. It's not because they are "moderates", it's because we put them in power and they expanded government. Ditto to Both the George Bushs. I don't want to see any Bush near the Whitehouse again.
I'm not sure whether Conservatives need to splinter off from the Republican Party proper, but I don't believe the entrenched powers will give up control of the party.
We conservatives lost last Nov. 4th because of lies. Our RNC lied to us in saying it was conservative – it wasn't. McCain lied to us saying that he was conservative and also that he wanted to win – both lies. Obama won because he lied to the people saying that he was a Christian and a centrist. BIG lies. The democrats lied because – well, they develop a rash if they tell the truth. And lastly but not least, the MSM lied and lied and lied and lied. God, did the MSM lie.
Well, the painful 'gift' of all those lies is that now the majority of Americans are waking up to the fact that they ARE lies. A lot of lies. And this time we're not going to believe them anymore. It was a painful awakening to the lies – and the pain isn't going away any time soon. But DeMartini is right. The majority of Americans are waking up and we're mad as hell. Liberals and the MSM had better beware. We middle Americans are that thing which Yamamoto warned about. "We are a sleeping giant who has been awoken and now is being filled with a terrible resolve."
'cept Arlen ain't even a RINO anymore.
"Conservatives are not better educated anymore, they're simply smarter."
Hmmm. Not exactly seeing a whole lot of evidence of that theory these days.
Conservatives had almost all the power for at least 6 of the last 8 years–yet, the American people voted them out.
Now, either that means there are more liberals in America than conservatives (but according to this site America is a mostly right-leaning country)…
…or they were simple Americans "tricked" by the "mainstream media", which means they weren't that smart then in the first place, were they? (Since every conservative knows the MSM is "fixed" to begin with.)
And purposely not wanting to vote for a RINO doesn't seem like a smart strategy, does it? That is, if the result is going to be a socialist-marxist-hippie-liberal is going to win, and "destroy" America. Seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face–not exactly "smart." Seems like the Rino would be a better choice than that, at least.
Especially since half the ticket had Sarah Palin on in–the new conservative superstar. Wouldn't that be enough to get out the vote? If she is so great and beloved, how could the MSM keep the "smart" conservatives from voting for her? Surely you can't blame Katie Couric, and still claim intellectual superiority?
So, really–where's the "smart?"
I think this is the Liberals big mistake. For six years they railed about George Bush's Huge deficits. They actually moved the polls towards their being the party of fiscal responsibility. Now after seizing power they've gone on a nightmarish spending spree, still trying to claim that the deficit is Bush's somehow.
All those independents and moderate Democrats in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvannia that got Obama elected were giving the Democrats a chance to be a responsible party. They will definitely rebel against the spending/taxing agenda that has now been exposed.
An army of pygmies in loin cloths with spears could take over this castrated and feminized nation.
Are you referring to ACORN?
Nope, and Toomey has a good chance to beat him next year too.
I think we need Newt as President. Could you imagine a debate between Newt and Obama, there would be more umms and awes than a Nancy Pelosi CIA press conference. That would be the only thing that will ever break this spell that Obama has over the press and his followers. The world would finally see that he is all charisma and NO SUBSTANCE. In the V.P. slot we need Romney. I like Palin but she just isn't ready yet and the press hates her so much she will never get a fair shot. It is really strange cause there are so many super intelligent people on the right like Thadius McCotter of Michigan but the best ones aren't rising to the occasion. It is really sad too that when you hear Frank, Pelosi, Reid, and Dodd speak you can just tell they have nothing but their own interests at heart. How did Democrtas get to be so gullible?
"Obama won because he lied to the people saying that he was a Christian and a centrist".
You couldn't be more right…………..
Now we are not a "Christian Nation" (big suprise to the christian majority!) and he suddenly identifies with Islam…..
Calling this man a liar is an understatement of epic proportions!
Conservatism is not in shambles. The conservatives are the only ones speaking out against what's going on.
I believe that the conservatives will save the Party after the Messiah and the Democrats make such a mess of this country that everyone except the hard core liberals will be demanding that all this change get changed back.
I think Newt is more moderate than conservative. We will need a real conservative to scrap all the Obama crap. A moderate I don't think can do this as effectively as a conservative, because moderates hold a grudge towards conservatives and will support ideals that a conservative won't but a Democrat will. We need someone with a strong proven true conservative backbone to take this all on. Palin comes to mind. She can't do it alone, so we need to start vetting our representatives very carefully from now on, actively support the good candidates to make sure they get elected.
We need to rid ourselves of all the ones that got us to this point.
The Democrats don't know what pygmies are. Now, if you called them "vertically-challenged indigenous people"…
Very nicely said Carolyn. I’ve never seen normally unassuming Americans so angry, and I’m not talking about a worthless leftist nar-do-wells, but business owners, professionals, hard workers, producers that normally stay quiet, no more. We’ve been called out and now we’re here to fight for the USA.
While the South was democratic before Reagan, there is a huge difference between a southern democrat and a NE democrat. It was a matter of time before the south went for the GOP. And I'm not sure why you think it's going to change. Obama is Jim Jones who has his minions drinking the kool-aid. His policies are a joke, and have been a spectacular failure. Sure, the morons still like him personally, but the Dems are going to get waxed in the 2010 elections.
I don't think conservatism is in shambles, but I do think that the GOP abandoned a lot of conservative principles and made them so indistinguishable from the Dems that made it easy for someone like Obama to come in and save the day. I hope it's been a wake up call to the GOP so they can get back to lower taxes, a free-market, strong defense, and a return to individual accountability and freedoms.
Are you sure she didn't perform a Colin Powell on her ballot?
Hey PFran, I'll agree with you on this one. I would love to see over the next 2 or 3 election cycles every incumbant official be voted out of office. So a totally new breed of politician can start over and fix this broken political process. Politicians need to start answering to us instead of just verbally pandering to us. We desperately need term limits as well.
Agreed! Conservatism right now is stronger than the Republican Party. I can't speak for other states, but here in Maine, conservatives and moderates simply do not co-exist. We have had decent viable conservative candidates for governor and other seats that the moderates will not support, so they lost. The moderates go out of their way to campaign against conservatives. The moderates have no qualms about voting for a Democrat, but it is beneath them to support a fellow Republican who is a conservative.
This is a sad situation. The first two that I can't wait to see go are Snowe and Collins. After the Specter defection, Olympia had the nerve to send out an email to Maine Republicans with the statement: The Party did not have to lose Specter. The message then went on about how wonderful he has been, yada yada yada, but kind of pointed an accusing finger at conservatives stirring the pot. Can you imagine?
These gals and any other rabid moderate should just do the right thing and follow Specter. Then, perhaps, the party can start to heal.
As long as the Jacka$$e$-in-Elephant-Suits insist on running sewage like Mel Martinez, Charlie Crist, or Jeb!, they are lost. The stench has become overwhelming.
in 2010 we will have Peter Schiff and Rand Paul (Ron's son) in the Senate. Those 2 alone can lift the party and restore reason to DC.
I agree. Looking at the internals you can see a weakening of the Dems in land slide proportions.
One interesting number was in a poll which said 38% of Democrats did not like the way Obama was handling GM. I would be willing to bet the number is higher, and will continue going higher as the fallout begins to hit coffee shops, diners, and all that is called a town built around a dealership. The collapse of the auto industry is going to bring home, with great pain, why there must be capitalism and a free, not obstructed free market.
It is this 38% that the Conservatives must appeal to, and with clear proposals. People want answers. They do not want to hear what you think about Obama, they want to hear what are you going to do with Obama's mistakes. They want simple solutions. Mark Steyn spoke in a NRO piece about the attempt of the Obama Administration to make our problems appear overly complicated, and impossible to solve. They certainly want average Americans to believe we do not have the capacity to fathom a solution. This 38% of Democrats can understand, and fathom why drilling is a good idea for not only our safety as a nation, but as a solution to their job problem. They can understand, and fathom that where there are jobs a union will certainly follow. Welcomed or not.
Speaking to this 38% is also necessary because of ACORN. They are not finished with the election tampering. Not by a long shot. Which is why we need lawyers, and poll watchers out the whazoo during the 2010. We are going to have to win by large margins. Wide publication as to the recent moves by Dems to restrict or make it hard for military members to vote might be a good idea for the RNC!
Another reason you are correct is because of your take on the media. They are stretching the rubber band on this one, and it is going to snap back in a major way. Just look at their numbers! If Katie Couric was a man she would have been fired before she ever interviewed Sarah Palin. She may need Johnny Depp's character, Captain Jack Sparrow's abilities to dock a sinking ship before all is said and done at CBS. Does anyone not smoking crack take Matthews and Olby seriously? We can afford to lose those who do.
I object to calling him "Mr. Ambition" because it gives ambition a bad rep. LOL! But his ego, along with those behind the curtain, they are digging a Grand Canyon sized hole in the foreign relations department. At this juncture, the Brits might rain on his parade! And here those who heart the "Citizen of the World" speech were wanting their very own Barack Hussein Obama to take home to their countries! Right! News from BBC, yes the vaunted BBC, and other sources like UK Telegraph would indicate our cousins are ticked.
My greatest fear, and the one thing you left out is the beautiful circular firing squad the Republicans want to create. I want to palm plant the noggin every time someone goes ballistic because you made a suggestion for Sarah Palin's next press conference. I like her a lot, but tweaking things for success, or constructive criticism offered with the greatest intentions is often rebuffed from those who have already purchased a ticket to ride with her to the nomination. The same goes for the die hard Newt fans. Heaven forbid you suggest he has made a few missteps as of late. Some which for me cause great trepidation. Yes, I listened to Levin's take at Real Clear. Nevertheless, I still would support him if he was the best choice, but do I have to die because I pointed out a problem I had? This for me is where the Republicans are going to have trouble. The circular firing squad. UGH!
You are very correct, Obama along with Reid, Pelosi, Murtha, Obey, Frank, Dodd, etc. are going to help. But will we survive the apathy, and the Fascists moves from last week? At this rate, who is going to be able to give to a campaign against Dear Leader?
Won't it be shocking to see absolutely NO DIFFERENCE?
Gawd, I hope you're right.
It will be a good test to see if PA is ready for a real conservative again. I hope we're able to be the same state that put Santorum in the Senate.
Snort!
And you know who else blew it? People who for years have opted not to get involved in protecting this country while others like our military were. McCain was only the product of many years of taking things for granted, and thinking others could carry the weight. We allowed liberals of the worst kind to take over our colleges and universities without any or much fanfare. We have allowed our public schools to take away the things which were part of our heritage. They no longer teach real American Civ! We settled for mediocre everything. From fast food service without a "thank you", "have a good day" or a smile, all the way down to allowing a woman to be called names we would not call "the worst person in the world!" We allowed all of this.
What blew it is not one person, it is the lack of will to fight daily for liberty and our uniqueness to have the blessing of being a kick ass American!
But you had better hide under a rock buddy, because the sleeping giant which saved the world is awakening.
When will you on the Left understand that it is not one person which makes this nation the best nation in the world? It is the people you moron! It goes something like this "WE THE PEOPLE"!
And we are ready to RUMBLE!
Republican(aka Rinos) governing is dead. CONSERVATISM IS ALIVE AND WELL!!! We just need LEADERS who believe in it, campaign on it, and most importantly, GOVERN BY IT. Being nice to Liberals and taking the "high road" must stop. The gloves must come off so we can restore America's greatness(before the Liberals destroy it).
I'll say one thing about liberals –they can at least design a comments section on a blog that isn't like a drunk Stephen King story.
Replies don't appear/disappear with no reason, the numbers of replies actually matches the number stated, the number of comments pages don't change and rechange constantly with each click, and you never see something like "active 153965 hours ago."
If you guys ever want to run the country again, you might want to show you have smarts enough to run a, you know…blog.
Ms. Carolyn if it's any solace to you. My Liberal friends Center-Left not Wack-Jobs are very unhappy and scared with whats going on in our Country. They also have a lot invested in this Nation emotionally and financially and they see the Naked Power Grab that's taking place. This is a good sign for 2010. Keep the Faith. The Smoke is starting to dissipate and the mirrors are starting to crack on this Telapromter Cellophane Marxist.
If Texas and Tennessee agree, it must be right!
I like that Hunter/Palin thought very much.
I'm glad your on my side or is it I'm on your side? Whatever… glad your there and Happy to know you.
Desperate people always try to assure the populace that all is well.
They also (strangely) try to convince the other side to give up. Preferably before the desperation of these people becomes public.
This is exactly what the liberals are doing.
America is sick of their neo-socialist garbage and they know it.
Don't bother arguing with a liberal either. They'll do one of two things:
1) Pull statistics out of their a** to make their point.
2) Call you a "bigot" and declare the argument over.
Arguing with a liberal is like shoving a coat hanger down your urethra:
It's painful,
You should know better,
Why did you try it?

You can't call a party dead a few months after an election.
I'm not sure where the dem's get off doing that.
Not as far as I know. Maybe a distant cousin
I've seen some funny stuff too, but I'd like to know how YOU know what the political affiliation is of the guys who designed intensedebate
http://intensedebate.com/aboutus
Granted, I didn't look very long, but I couldn't find a single political comment in either their blogs or profiles. Just looking at their photos and using the usual liberal method of stereotyping, I'd say they were libs, but I could be wrong.
S. King IS a drunk, isn't he, or at least, he admitted he used to be. Personally, I think most of his best stories were written by his wife Tabitha, or at least improved upon by her.. (she's the talented one in the family, IMO)
Remember the Whigs – They died because of fissures over slavery. Today the republicans have an unnatural alliance between social conservatives and economic conservatives. It is tied into a fabric of anti-intellectualism, and anti-immigration. With the demographics of the country changing, and various constituencies like latin-americans are being pushed away to the democrats, the republicans have to change. If not they are dead meat!!!!!!!
It is a losing battle to fignt the demographic change. So for all of you who are yelling and screaming, it is change or watch your party die..
YoYep — check it out. Republicans lost, not because the Dems (or Liberals really) beat them in the arena of ideas… no. Republicans beat themselves. They let the media define them, they let the Libs define them, essentially they let their enemies define them.
Lesson learned. That won't happen. Ever again.
Conservatism is truth. End of story.
Every now and then, Conservatism needs to be jolted awake.
Get ready for the rise of true neo-conservatism.
I was speaking of the people who run this blog–BigHollywood–and who elected to use this funky comments system (wherever they got it, and whatever the political persuasion of the designers may be)…
…because, and, I may be mistaken, I would say this blog (BigHollywood) is run by non-liberals.
Pardon any confusion.
This site is very entertaining, but it has the worst, most wacky comments system I have ever seen.
They are? They do?
Doesn't seem like it, outside certain parts of the Internet…
"Why is this change happening so shortly after the 'Democratic Revolution?' I can answer that one, but it would take a book."
Gosh, Mr. DeMartini – a book?
I can give it to you in one word:
ARROGANCE.
Cause the dems control most of the media. The truth is whatever they feed to DNCNBC and CNN.
The GOP isn't dead. The left believes that if they say it long enough then even the conservative party will believe it. Remember, one of their mantras is "tear down". Well they want to tear down the GOP's Morale so that eventually we'll give up on ourselves.
I'm not buying into it.
Well we're just SOOOO Sorry that we don't have YOUR kind of jackasses, like geithner, clinton, kennedy and obama et al.
Conservatism is strong – if anything, with Obama reminding people what a disaster Liberalism is – conservatism is growing stronger. The Republican party is weaker because too many Republicans abandoned conservatism. We ran a centrist Republican in McCain and he got slaughtered. The only thing that kept him in the race was Palin. This is a time to stand for conservative principles and let the potential leaders vie with each other until the next Reagan arises. Obama will force through liberal policies and get slaughtered by the consequences – debauched currency, inevitable hyper-inflation, economic stagnation and humiliations of America and triumphs by our enemies over seas due to Obama's weakness. It took a Jimmy Carter to get a Ronald Reagan. Things are on track. Painful period to get there but a re-invigorated conservative Republican party will serve America well.
The Governor is irrelevant in California. The State Legislature is completely Democratically controlled, utterly ideologically and controlled by the teachers and state employees unions and the trial lawyers. It is utterly anti-capitalist. The California state legislature has killed the goose that laid the golden eggs, entrepreneurialism, capitalism. They have constantly pushed policies increasing the number of people riding on the wagon at the expense of the people pulling the wagon – since the Democratic party is the party of the people riding on the wagon. They finally have hit the tipping point. Despite all the creative people in California this process is too far gone to reverse. Terminal death spiral. That is why I left to start my business elsewhere. Michigan is the ultimate consequence of Obama socialism, California is 70% there, the danger is that Obama will push the rest of America off the same cliff. Turning around California would require revolutionary change – massive repeal of legislation, shut-down of government to the level it was at in the 1990s, cutting taxes by 2/3 – just not going to happen until the whole state hits bottom. Like an alcoholic looking for the rest of the country to enable them.
Seriously who won't have an uphill battle with the media on our side?
No, not dead, just waiting for a leader that can draw a crowd and state clearly
that the Dems lead America into ,
"Weakness in Foreign Affairs and out-of-control spending ".
Palin could be that leader, thus, she is savaged.
Geroge Allen could have been that leader, hence, the macaca-boy that followed him around.
Our ideas are winning, Obama looks clueless, but gets great press. It won't last
Student – too right. You are too sadly right. I live in San Francisco – and it is a nightmare. This city has stabbed business in the back so viciously that we're hemorraghing red ink, our worst deficit in memory. And what does the Board of Supervisors do? They stab some MORE knives in the back of business. The latest (and that's just the latest) is fines for people not recycling their garbage – and forcing businesses to pay for the Calory Cops to spy on restaurants to see if there isn't sufficient info on the menus telling customers how many carbs or protein, etc. are in the food. It's insane here, just insane.
I'm leaving San Francisco by the end of this year. And I don't think that's going to be soon enough.
I thought they released an official copy. Is it bogus?
Palin / Condi 2012.
Isn't that state gerrymandered to the point of insanity?
Ah, George Allen. I wouldn't count him out in the future.
Hope!
The Republican party isn't lost, we are the Republican party and we know exactly where we are and where we are wanting to go. Our politicians are lost because they moved away from US leading US in a direction we refused to follow. It was a painful choice, one that we will pay for over the next four years, but we decided that would be better than to continue to compromise our ideals for the lesser of two evils.
When you politicians wake up and rediscover your values and integrity, we will be behind you once again.
You forget what happened in '94 saved Bill Clinton's presidency. If we get a new class like that '94 in the next election, it could save ol' Barry.
Agreed! Alot of these clowns spend so much time campaigning and congressing that they don't know the bloody issues. Look at Cantor's remarks about climate change recently. The man has no clue about the subject. We had six years(2001-2007) to reduce gov. and pass things that the feds do to the states and yet, they got nothing productive done accept a tax cut that they let the media and dems paint as tax cuts for the rick!
Congress and senate had no one that would stand against Bush and demand true conservative government. Bush lead and that got us a big load of new spending and our butts clobbered in the '06 and '08 elections. He destroyed the republican brand by not being conservative.
Newt really needs to clarify his positions on "climate change", "renewable energies", and like issues. Green=Red(commie) to me.
True, but the republicans stepped on their weenies when they didn't cut gov. during the proceeding 6 years. They gave up on reform of soc. sec. They didn't cut ACORN out of every budget. They passed HUGE farm bills. They passed bloated highway bills. They didn't eliminate the spending from the highway trust fund on mass transit. They didn't do lots of things true conservatives would have done. That was the true reason they lost on '06. Accepting the "premise" is something too many republicans do and hence get painted into a corner, but being true to the party platform is paramount.
"shoving a coat hanger down your urethra" Down? As an EMT, if you have priapism, I would really recommend you see a doctor.
Not only are the dem numbers weakening but their level of social activism wanes. The gubment is so mired in self-inflicted economic woes, the only hot button social issue moving to the front burner is health care. The dems are losing their swagger, becoming cautious and moving into the shadows. The Tea Parties got their attention and Global Warming is becoming a harder fantasy to sell. One way to squash dissent is to ensure no disagreeable issues reach the public eye. The Obama freewheeling ramrod seems to have about a 180 day length. Having unleased his activist agenda in the first 180 days, I wonder where he will meddle for the remaining 21/2 years? Government at its core is about solving problems. Activist Obama and our activist media will find or create problems worthy of his attention.
cont. Although I agree the Republican leadership is fully capable of forming circular firing squads, I believe the subservient, fawning media is the country’s greatest current threat. It feeds the apathy you mention. Its corrupting influence saturates all levels of public thinking and discourse. It shapes, guides, and leads public understanding and opinion. It subverts debate. It detracts with sensationalistic newsutainment. It hides apparent malfeasance, like firing an inspector who catches your buddy misusing public funds or ACORN’s egregious behavior. The fourth estate, more than usual, takes on Orwellian significance.
preach it brother!

Deeds supports guns because Virginia is overrun with criminal illegal aliens. They break into homes and murder joggers.
Lessons learned from all those years of living in California: no matter how truly-conservative an upstart is, the RNC refuses to spend money unless it's on a RINO.
I haven't trusted the National Republican Party since the '90s. THEY taught me not to trust them.
I believe in the American conservative. I believe in the American voter. Michael Steele is just another RINO-apologist.
Until Sarah Palin is accompanied by other staunch conservatives, fighting back, I don't believe in the NRC as a whole.
