24 Hours Apart – The Second Civil War
by Ernie MannixThe peaceful transfer of power in this country was indeed thankfully just that. Unfortunately though, it has been anything but polite or even the slightest bit classy. The rapper horror, the boos, the nasty silent welcome of a President that kept us safe since 9/11 – sadly, we have come to expect this kind of incivility from too many members of the no-shame, no-apology, no-manners bunch.
This behavior causes me to believe we are in the midst of a type of second civil war in this country. Maybe it’s a bit of a bomb throwing moniker, so choose another name – but there’s no denying that it’s a nasty war of minds, attached to mouths that spew nasty words, pumped by hearts filled with hate. The war’s small arms fire are the childish run-of-the-mill ‘Buck Fushers’ – with its big guns being judicial radicalism, tyrannical political correctness, moral relativism, and blame America first-ism.
The biased media and Hollywood celebs can spin it all they want; this is not a time of joy for this nation. It is a time of mistrust, miscommunication and mean spirited jousts. There is a divide that is ever widening.
Bill O’Reilly addresses half this battle and calls it a culture war. He is right. The culture war is on; the struggle against the moral equivalent anti-preachers whose sophomoric eye rolling disdain of ANY type of Judeo/Christian value mocks the rest of us. However, it is only part of the Left’s attempt to destroy everything moral and political that it does not deem “progressive”.
Besides culture, the other major theatre in this second civil war is the basic difference on how we view our enemies, and it can be boiled down to two distinctly different views of this enemy. Simply put; there is the Sept 10th mindset, and the Sept 11th. There are those who think it’s September 10th and those who have seen the horror of the following day and have adjusted accordingly. There are the misguided who don’t understand our enemy, and the folks who do and know what needs to be done. The party in D.C. for the new President will soon fade, and then we all know what’s going to take its place. We see it already in the new president’s sweeping executive orders pandering to those who would rather pull the covers over their heads than face the truth of our real enemies.
Does it come down to selfishness? I think it does. We are so insulated from the realities of our enemies as we watch our Super Bowl, pick our kids up at school, go out for a great meal, or watch “Red Eye” at God knows what hour in the morning, we forget there’s a group of fanatics waiting for the right moment to take all of that away – with a bang. We are not guaranteed PEACE AND HARMONY. We have to work for it, by working at it.
This misguided motions by the President to boy scout our intelligence services and dull our badly needed covert spears shows he and his party pretend to live in that September 10th world. Covert ops is a dirty business. You don’t get info on bad people from the local boy scouts troops. You get it from characters that crawl around with the ones that want to kill us all. (Deal with that Hollywood.)
10 second pause for a PM:
Dear Mr. President,
I respect you as a man, and you are my President. I just think you are a September 10th kind of guy. Please move your political clock 24 hours ahead. Consider the advance of this clock “America Savings Time.” Most of all sir, please understand your enemy.
I’ll close with this:
Notice I said “sir” and “please.” I did not make fun of the way he talks, the way he looks, make up stories about his family, or declare him not to be “my” (that selfish thing again) President. Let’s deal with the facts and realities of our world, and learn to fight together the best we can as Americans. To bury your head in the sand, or pretend that enemy combatants are U.S citizens, or keep blaming and shaming our military and intelligence services makes us all so much less safe.

This is just a case of magical thinking on a national scale. The Buck Fushers want desperately to believe that all anti-American hatred began with and was caused by George W. Bush's inauguration — because if that's true, then this Jan. 20, the world stopped having any reason to hate us, and that means we're all safe from evil terrorists now. (The people who insert 'Israel' for 'George W. Bush' in that logic are suffering from the same magical thinking: as though rich Saudis and poor Agfhan and Pakistani religious fanatics ever were under any threat from the existence of Israel, except the threat to their self-image as members of the wisest and greatest culture the world has ever known.)
The same people who hate W may end up hating Obama even more, when he proves not to have the magical power to make anti-American hatred evaporate. To them, Bush at least comes by his evil honestly, through his pedigree, upbringing and associations; when Obama engages in the same policies (rendition, a surge in Afganistan, cross-border raids in Pakistan), they'll turn on him as a traitor both to their ideal of America and to themselves personally.
Our enemies know that most great civilizations fall from within. America is not different. We are on decline now. We are too divided to be one nation united again. Our beliefs are too far apart. America’s enemies are laughing as Amerians continue to follow Hollywood and worry about themselves. How many Americans know that more Mexican citizens were killed last year than all Americans killed in the Iraq war? Don’t think that has much to do with America? The drug cartels will bring the beheadings to your neighborhood in the near future. Just one example, now continue on with America’s fixation on Hollywood.
Thanks Ernie, I think you covered just about every conservative cliche and republican rationalization.
I believe you have hit the nail on the head, Mr. Mannix. Unfortunately, I fear it will take another attack of similar or worse devastation before any of those September 10thers will adjust their thinking. My main concern is how many of us will have to die for it to happen.
There is something incredibly unseemly about the just below the surface sentiment in posts like this HOPING for another terrorist attack. Each day that passes in the Obama administration without an attack erodes the Bushies mantra that his incredibly misguided terror policies were necessary to “keep us safe”.
By the way, describing HONEST political differences as being a “second Civil War” is just typical extremist ass-hattery that has come to dominate this site.
You’ve got it right on the civil war, but I wouldn’t say it’s 9/10 vs. 9/11. I think the left really, honestly believes (like any good sociopath) that the enemy exists because Bush exists. Get rid of Bush, get rid of the enemy. I have heard many libs wax on and on about Obama, but it’s certainly not about how he’s going to keep us safe and stop fundamentalist Islam. It’s the hope/change/unity drivel. To them, the threat was neutralized the second Obama took the oath.
I disagree with SammyB, and would like to point out that throughout our great country’s history, there has always been a chorus warning loud and long of the “decline” of our country. This started in 1776 and has continued to the present day.
Our country is in terrific shape; we’ve been in far worse. We once had an ACTUAL civil war where hundreds of thousands of Americans lost their lives, and untold property damage occurred. We got over that in fine form. There have been other challenges, other depressions, recessions, and wars; nothing that’s happened to us from September 2, 1945 to the present day can compare to the trials that came before. Even 9/11, as bad as it was, was a pinprick compared to WWI and WWII.
America is changing, as it always has. The Obama presidency is already moving to the right, and will move much closer to center-right as the days, weeks, and months go by.
We’ve been in much worse shape and come out on top and we’ll do so again. The rhetoric is already starting to soften as the more radical Obama supporters see the new prez is not rushing in to repeal constitution and declare a new socialist state. My liberal neighbors are actually coming over for dinner tonight…who’da thought?
Beth-
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Truly one only has to scan up or down a few posts to see this flawed thinking in the leftist mentality. It becomes more and more clear that liberalism is a mental disorder. They can’t see reality beyond the fantasy they’ve created.
It’s funny to me to see the liberals talk on and on about how conservatives are hoping for another attack on America when we all know it is the liberals who feel we deserve it. It’s funnier still to see them claim that conservatives orchestrated attacks on their own country when we all know that the attacks that occurred were due to inaction and bad policy on the part of liberal administrations.
I have a feeling the next four years will provide a lot of laughs.
Do these guys know they won? They know that right? They do know that their little hero is now “The Man” right?
Personally I’m bored with Obama, with Hairplugs, with Botox. Put up or shut up.
And Terry, did an Israeli steal your girlfriend/boyfriend/newspaper route or what? You seem fairly pathological in your inability to keep from threadjacking every frigging thread to talk about the Israelis. I suspect you’d threadjack a blog post about how to make sugar cookies to talk about your pathological hatred of all things Jew.
Gird your loinses, everybody.
America probably won’t see a terrorist attack on it’s soil for a while. Why – because are waiting for people to be lulled into complacency and feel safe, then they will hit. As long as there are those who stand vigilant in protecting America, the will wait. It is safer for them this way.
Terry, pretty well everyone here knows that you hate Isreal. You need to remember that you may have a really valid point to make, but people won’t pay attention to it because they figure it will be the same thing over and over and over again. Here’s the deal, how about you only post (no matter how many subjects are posted) one hate filled comment about Isreal (if you really have to), and only ONCE A MONTH! Remember, it is better to be thought a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.
I’ve been thinking, for the past 16 years, that this culture war is going to come to a head. The loons on the left are forcefully ramming this stuff in our faces and it’s been getting to be annoying. Time to slap these limp-wristed libs back to their holes.
And Terry and Titov, you’re part of the problem. But you probably just got done watching “Enemy of the State” and threw you in your conspiracy mode. You’re also morons.
the christian president who goes by a muslim name is the biggest fraud of the century. his friends are crooks and criminals and terrorists. None of his fools have any class. Pelosi is a liar and a FRAUD with her jet, and Al Gore with his con. the ignorant liberals can do nothing except try to instill fear in the hearts of the fools that voted for them so they can get that 900billion passed..112 miillion of it is going to some maintenance firm to make sure the garbage cans are lined up 18 inches behind the white line on streets.
alot of people are coming to their senses and his ratings have gone from 88% to 59% in 2 weeks.
Timmeh, again with a post here making gay comments along with veiled threats against those who disagree with you.
However, let’s address a few fallacies you guys are using.
1. 9/11 Trutherism is a fringe thing. No one in the mainstream left OR right buys the inside job jive.
2. Care to find me a current member of the Administration or Congress who has expressed a belief that we “deserved” 9/11 or any other attacks.
3. Again, the longer we go without an attack, the harder it will be for some on the right to loudly insist that torturing prisoners in secret prisons was literally the only thing that “kept us safe”. You might not understand this, denizons of the right, but one of the other political goals of international terrorist groups is to get their enemy’s society to become so paralyzed with fear that they freely throw away their own values. Turning America into a society permanently paralyzed with fear as a means of ramming through or justifying odious military misadventures was a catostrophic blunder by the GOP, a blunder that completely played into AQ’s hands.
Titov,
I’m sorry but who’s paralyzed with fear? Islamic extremists want us dead.
It’s a fact. I’m not much of a Bush fan , but I have to give him props for his administration’s efforts to keep this country safe.
If jihadis have to be waterboarded to get information then I’m all for it.
I don’t know if you read much or understand history, but the fact is Islam has been at war with the west for a lo-o-o-ong time.
It’s not because we support Israel. It’s not because we occupy their lands.
It’s because they hate all non-Muslims.
During WWII, for instance, Muslims sided with the Nazis.
You knew that, right?
Gary, don’t expect an answer from any liberals on your point about WWII. They never really want to comment on that.
Has anyone else noticed that the first comment on many threads is something negative about the post? Do the lib-trolls have BH staked out such that as soon as something is posted they rush to write something negative? Geez. Still, I suppose The One has to keep his minions busy for the next four years.
This is slightly off the topic, but one of the many things I admired about President Bush was that he had a hell of a lot more class than those who hate him, and he still does. Despite what the left-wing kook fringe (I guess I don’t have as much class as President Bush did), he kept this country safe for eight years and never asked for a word of thanks. God knows he’ll never get it from the libs who are so preoccupied with pre-9/11 America that they still foolishly believe he stole the 2000 election.
I am a conservative, not a Republican, but I can say with no shame nor regret that I would even today march into hell to help President Bush is he needed it.
Bush…Class? Seriously, he had “class”? Ahem…from a Tucker Carlson piece before the 2000 election:
In the week before [Karla Faye Tucker's] execution, Bush says, Bianca Jagger and a number of other protesters came to Austin to demand clemency for Tucker. “Did you meet with any of them?” I ask.
Bush whips around and stares at me. “No, I didn’t meet with any of them,” he snaps, as though I’ve just asked the dumbest, most offensive question ever posed. “I didn’t meet with Larry King either when he came down for it. I watched his interview with [Tucker], though. He asked her real difficult questions, like ‘What would you say to Governor Bush?’ ”
“What was her answer?” I wonder.
“Please,” Bush whimpers, his lips pursed in mock desperation, “don’t kill me.”
This charming little vignette comes from Tucker Carlson’s profile of George W. Bush in the premiere issue of Talk. Carlson’s attitude toward Bush is clearly positive. But the profile is nonetheless devastating, because Carlson is a good reporter who’s captured his subject’s unattractive aspects as well as his appealing ones.
Carlson’s major theme is that Bush is “comfortable with himself” and “doesn’t give a damn what you think of him.” (Message: I don’t care.) He has risen above the obsession with what other people think that marks most politicians. Yet the Bush who emerges from the profile is remarkably thin-skinned. Carlson notes that while “the Larry King–Karla Faye Tucker exchange Bush recounted never took place” on television, “Tucker did imply that Bush was succumbing to election-year pressure from pro-death penalty voters. Apparently Bush never forgot it. He has a long memory for slights.” If this is what Bush considers payback, remind us to stay on his compassionate side.
For sheer ugliness, nothing else in the article matches Bush’s remarks on the death penalty. (When he sees Carlson’s horrified reaction, Bush “immediately stops smirking”: ” ‘It’s tough stuff,’ Bush says, suddenly somber, ‘but my job is to enforce the law.’”)
Terry – The point you seem to be making is because the Muslims sided with the Nazis, it proves that they don’t hate all non-muslims. Pretty poor logic there.
It was a simple, the enemy of my enemy is my friend scenario. Muslims wanted to kill Jews. So did Nazis – a common goal. It isn’t unlike the USA and USSR banding together to stop Hitler. It wasn’t because we agreed with each other. And both the Nazis and Islam would have looked at each other (certainly Turkey, North Africa, etc) as the next target…as soon as the Allies and Jews had been defeated.
Furthermore, radical Islam does respond to strength and respect. At the time, they respected the Nazi’s because of their strength. They may have despised them for infidels, but they have clearly shown they salivate at perceived weakness. Thus, destroy the Jews, destroy the weak and tolerant, the Nazis could wait until later.
Because let’s be honest. If radical Islam at killed 3000 people in Berlin in 1939…..half of the mideast or more would have been scorched earth. No reluctance. No insurgent targeting. No allied sheiks. Man, woman and child would have been targeted and a lesson taught – from their perspective.
Terry’s obsessive Israel-hatred disqualifies him from being taken seriously. Israelis “squirm with delight”? Nice phrase – doesn’t reveal too much about your biases!
At the same time, I find it annoying that anyone with a dissenting point of view on this site immediately gets labelled a “lib-tard troll” or some such nonsense.
Terry, my brother, seriously read something .
They both had something in common. Hating the jooz. Muslim extremists will side with anyone who hates the jooz. Sunnis and Shiites may hate each other, but they hate Jews more so they’ll team up to destroy Zionist/Jew pigs…….Then , of course, they revert to killing each other.
Once again, history didn’t start in 1948. Read something besides what Alex Jones tells you to read.
After eight years of an imperious presidency, an administration that shoved whatever it wanted down the collective American throat without asking permission or offering apology, can you really not understand the visceral response to Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney, et.al? If not, you’ve not been paying attention. It’s wonderful that Mr. Bush and his minions used “please,” “thank you,” and “yes, sir.” But it’s possible to be polite and still screw an entire country in the process. Aside from the absence of another attack since Sept. 11, 2001 – no small feat, I agree -what good did the Bush Administration do this country? The problems President Obama is taking on are a direct result from an administration that existed in an echo chamber without allowing for dissent. And dissent, sir, is as American as a flag lapel pin. The fact that Mr. Bush was unwilling and unable to allow even a whiff of dissent in his White House speaks volumes to his character and intelligence. That’s why there is such a backlash against Mr. Bush. Has it not occurred to you, either, that there is little or no interest in a memoir from Mr. Bush? Why do you think that is? Crude or no, Mr. Bush is reaping what he sowed.
Terry One Track, check out this story.
Hm, ex-Nazi settles in Egypt and becomes devout Muslim…..just a coincidence or a plant by the Mossad, I’m sure.

Terrorists don’t scare me as much as our government does. We’re robbed, lied to, spied on and they even have our own army deployed to American soil in case we have a problem with it! Go to http://www.truthconvicts.com/ if truth doesn’t scare you. Our personal freedom will be taken if we even stand up for the Constitution. In the name of fear we are being herded into the net.
My three cents:
Bill is right, there is a war but a war we can win by holding our ground and never failing to make our feelings known. I’ve lost count the number of conversations I’ve had with non-conservative friends when their arguments fail even when slightly challenged. The phrase I hear from them towards the end of the conversation is “that is not what I meant.” Unfortunately, it is what they say.
For those who “hate” G.W. I’m reminded of the words of JFK “…with history is the final judge of our deeds” and his view was that history will judge a president. He was and will continue to be right. It took ten years for historians to revise their views on Ronald Reagan, twenty years for Harry Truman and 200 years for poor John Adams. Once the dust of the current issues settle, I believe G.W. will look far better to historians. Something else to think about, according to the historian David Herbert Donald, JFK stated that “No one has a right to grade a President – not even poor James Buchanan – who has not sat in his chair, examined the mail and information that came across his desk, and learned why he made his decisions.”
For those who are frustrated with the “haters” of G.W. (see the above window), don’t worry about them. Life is too short. What I see is an effort on their part to entrench before the results of history roll over them(see the historical revisions of Ronald Reagan). They should have better things to do with their time, but they don’t. Go figure.
Terry:
Anti-Semitic much?
Amazing posts!
Someone please correct me tell me about the facts, but haven’t we prevents Israel on many occasions from simply wiping their neighbors off the map? Around the 20th of Jan, didn’t we ask them to stop the bombing?
This is the civil war at its finest? You can’t even get/trust facts anymore. Its all opinion!. The way I feel about it, my advice to Israel would be to: Replace your divot. Problem solved.
#2 Even some of the more liberal posters get it when we say that we believe that we will be attacked again. No one wants it, we just expect it to happen, and I for one would happily apologize if it does not happen. Unfortunately, I believe it will happen. The Terrorists plan their attacks, and they evaluate and learn from their mistakes. 9/11 was the second attempt at the WTC.
NightFly, Maybe if you worked out more you’d get more cupcakes??? (sorry Dude, I couldn’t resist)
Well said.
The media and Hollywood have brainwashed us to think that Islamic terrorism doesn’t even exist. Now our new president seems to think so too.
Our enemies are real, and they have no interest in holding our hands and having nice chats. This naive and unbelievably childish attitude will lead us to our end.
This Nation as we knew it is over.
Nobody is asking anyone to fight or die. Just to be worth fighting or dying for.
In that, we have failed our troops and our ancestors.
“Tucker did imply that Bush was succumbing to election-year pressure from pro-death penalty voters.”
Titov – Just for future reference – the Governor of Texas does NOT have the power to commute or pardon sentences including the death penalty and has not had that since the ’60’s. The Governor can issue a one 6 week stay of execution. That’s it. Bush couldn’t have stopped Karla Fay Tucker even if all the libs in Hollywood begged him.
By the way, the Texas Legislature took that right away to stop the Democrat govenors from pardoning all of their friends and associates.
Special shout out to all the looney-left troll-posters for substantiating all my points once again.
Gary bro, next tuesday!
Pete Stathulis – What exactly did Bush shove down our throats? The Fairness Doctrine? The Freedom of Choice Act? Bailouts? Sucky lightbulbs? High taxes? Waco? Ruby Ridge? Elian Gonzales’ raid? Richard Jewell’s reward for heroism? Lines at the gas pump? This is just off the top of my head.
Oh, right – “he” shoved a war that ummmm congress approved 77-23 after going to the UN. Or maybe you mean when congress voted 69-28 to EXPAND the wiretapping last summer. Maybe you mean when he tripled the aid to Africa for AIDS. Maybe you didn’t want to pay for that with your taxes.
Hmmmmm
Ernie, thanks for censoring my post – in which I criticized Terry, as well as some other posters – and publishing everything by Terry. That shows really good judgement.
By the way, I don’t think Terry is a “loony-left-troll-poster” at all. He’s a paleocon libertarian anti-semite.
Not a liberal.
I judge not. You assume to give me more credit/power than I am responsible for.
I don’t have any censorship powers here. Zero.
EM
Yeah, David Duke calls himself a patriot as well.
Solid company there, Terry.
Yeah Ernie. Looking forward
Ernie, KUDOS for a great post!
but may i add a few points? the Texas ethos that both Bush 41 and 43 took to Washington was not understood and certainly not liked by a lot of Bush-bashers. it goes way beyond failure to communicate too, because we are talking cultural bias begetting political bias here. one of my ancestors was also a Texas Governor in the 1880s, and we are decendents of the Republic, but this mindset and classiness of a “rise above it all” attitude has been around a lot longer than Texas has… think of the motto of the Royal Order of the Garter: “honi soit que mal e pense” (forgive my latin spelling) which loosely translates:
“evil to him who evil thinks”.
…as with Harry S. Truman, the buck really did stop there with GWB.
contrast that reality with the ABSD (advanced Bush derangement syndrome) in the media, blue states, and hollywood elitists, who never understood – nor even acknowledged – GWB’s penchant for falling on his own sword, for the greater good even when he shouldn’t have, IMHO. the proof? let’s do a quick and simple google excercise…
search exact phrase “Bush takes responsiblity” = over 4000 hits.
exact phrase “Bush admits mistakes” = over 14,500 hits.
more general exact phrase “Bush admits” = over 115,000 hits.
exact phrase “Bush apologizes” = over 29,600 hits.
…now let’s google the mother-of-all-lies and ABSD manic-mantra, the exact phrase “Bush lied” = over 282,000 hits! and not a single one of them truthful.
let them have their cupcakes. the inmates are running the asylum. they will need a LOT of cupcakes.
PS: i tried to send this privately to u, but had to post it here instead.
change: “ABSD” shud be “ABDS” in above post. its late. i’ve had enough Shiner Commemorator Ale. i’m tight. i’m sleepy. i’ll bo to ged. night.
Uh, Lodo, way to bring the talking points.
I would venture to guess that a few people were in fact converted by Rush, etal.
See, they deal in facts. And they give the facts in an entertaining fashion. Hence the ratings.
BTW, Coulter doesn’t have a show. She writes a column.
if it quacks like a lib-tard-troll and walks like a lib-tard-troll, then… c’mon you lib-tard-trolls, finish the logic! oh wait, right, you don’t use logic.
fab per usual my good man, ernie!
I beseech you, my fellow conservatives, to recall the outcome of the last Civil War fought between red states and blue. Has our cause any strength now we had not then? Can we hope to prevail against the liberal forces when their very government controls our economies? Turn back, I say, their Federal largesse and let us find economic independence so that we may one day declare our independence from their political correctness! And when we have severed ourselves economically from their manufactures, finances, ports, capital, entertainment, and institutes of higher learning, we will at last fulfill the promise of the original secession. Let Texas lead the way! Divorce and separate! Live free or die!
Hey PAUL_D…
You might have wanted to read the whole link you gave us before making your smarmy point. It makes clear that the briefing “Bin Laden determined to attack the US” was vague and something already known. What else would they think Bin Laden wanted to do, catch a Red Sox game and then head north with the wife to get some Vermont Maple syrup? The citation of this briefing though interesting to those who are sincere about history, is a comical dud from those morons who think that their level of NPR listening “show” intelligence is greater than President Bush and thousands of National Security professionals. Hey, I’ve met people that knew or worked with President Bush, he’s smarter than anyone you’ve ever met. Even if you technically have a higher IQ the fact that he was a Governor and President for even one day makes him smarter than you. Because obviously you think you’d be a better President but failed. But I know, some guy typing angrily in the middle of the night in his Healthcare Not Warfare tee-shirt would’ve stopped 9-11, too bad you weren’t in charge.
BTW – I really don’t mean to call anyone morons. But the collective act of being the “zinger” liberal that mutters something about Halliburton etc. to make a point is moronic. That’s all I’m saying. They might be fine or smart people in other areas…but please wake up from this moronic modern liberal cult.
As far as the sign in the cupcake shop…I’d love to break the window. But don’t ever. But do go inside and if you’re talking to whoever put the sign up…let her have it with every name in the book.
i think everyone that posted coments on this topic has nothing to do with their own lame lives and need to find a new hobby.(: the world is not goping ot end because of our terrorists we are THE UNITED FREAKIN STATES OF AMERICA. we can prevent terrorist attacks in modern day suburbia and show those terrorists what were made of or we can just blow up their cities like were doing now. have a nice day and be excellent to eachother(;
