Note to Wanda: Obama and Limbaugh Agree on Same-Sex Marriage
by Eric GolubWanda Sykes has decided to be the latest celebrity to cross the line from comedy into hate speech. Her refusal to let other leftists have all the fun without any social consequences has led her to embrace Ideological Bigotry.
At the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Ms. Sykes decided to lob verbal grenades at Rush Limbaugh. The leftist ideological bigots that make up much of the mainstream media will offer pathetic and predictable defenses. Inevitable choruses of “she was just making jokes,” and “Rush can dish it out, but he can’t take it” will try to drown out the truth.
This cannot be allowed to happen.
I personally have never had any major objections to Wanda Sykes. I find her humor tasteless, but nothing more. Her skit about tying the feet of black quarterbacks so they would stop running around may have been the death knell for the once brilliant program “Inside the NFL,” but by then the show was already in free fall.
Yet suppose I were to remark that as punishment for her poor humor and caustic comments, she should be waterboarded or hung from the nearest tree. I would be branded a racist, a sexist, and a bigot. I might be arrested and charged with plotting a hate crime. The reason for this is because there is nothing funny or humorous about killing somebody.
Yet liberals fail to respect this view.
Jon Stewart and other comedians have referred to George W. Bush as a war criminal. Leftist radio personalities joke about raping Laura Bush and Condoleezza Rice. “Abort Sarah Palin” t-shirts are trendy among Democrats on college campuses. Miss California Carrie Prejean was verbally and emotionally violated by Perez Hilton, who feels that spreading ideological bigotry is the way to spread tolerance of his own lifestyle.
Now Rush Limbaugh is being Garofaloed by Wanda Sykes.
Her “comedy routine” was motivated by the same factor that got Jon Stewart to lash out. Any criticism of President Barack Obama will be met with large heapings of liberal abuse. In fact, if either Sykes or Stewart were attacking a Palestinian, the response would be mischaracterized as “disproportionate.”
Rush Limbaugh was asked whether or not he wanted Barack Obama to fail. Limbaugh very clearly stated that if Barack Obama were to try and enact policies that would be bad for the country, then the attempt to enact those policies should fail.
In an adult and reasonable world, that is called “disagreeing” with somebody.
Wanda Sykes went on television and made a ludicrous comment. “Rush Limbaugh wants Barack Obama to fail. That means he wants America to fail. He wants this country to fail…”
No, it does not mean that at all. Yet what she said after that truly became speech that only a liberal could embrace.
“I hope his kidneys fail.”
Are any liberals going to condemn this remark?
President Obama will not. He was too busy laughing. The media toadies will not. They made sure that Barack Obama found it funny, and then allowed themselves to find it funny.
Ms. Sykes also expressed the heinous notion that Rush was “the 20th Hijacker on 9/11.” She reasoned that his being responsible for the atrocities that murdered 3000 people was due to his “being high on Oxycontin.”
For those curious as to why Ms. Sykes has such rage, I read her Wikipedia page. She was married to a man for eight years. Her marriage failed. There is no joke here. I do not want anybody’s marriage to fail. She then became a lesbian and married a woman. Whatever a person’s views on gay marriage, I do not want that relationship of hers to fail either. She is an outspoken advocate of gay marriage, and very militant about the passage of California Proposition 8, which bans gay marriage.
There we go. Now we know why she despises conservatives.
If the left had an ounce of intellectual honesty, they would admit that Barack Obama and Rush Limbaugh have the exact same position on gay marriage. Barack Obama may not mean it, but the issue is not that he holds beliefs out of political expediency. Giving a prominent liberal a pass for beliefs that are identical to a conservative expressing those beliefs, and then lambasting the conservative, is ideological bigotry.
This is not about issues. It is about leftist hatred.
Leftists hate people who disagree with them. Conservatives cannot be a noble opposition. They are evil, and need to be destroyed.
When conservatives use words like “evil,” and “destroy,” they are referring to Al Qaeda, Saddam Hussein, Adolf Hitler, and their ilk.
Liberals see conservatives in this vein. Comparisons of President George W. Bush and Adolf Hitler are as common as they are odious.
Wanda Sykes is a black, female, lesbian, liberal. Rush Limbaugh is a white, male, heterosexual, conservative. Therefore, his criticism of Barack Obama’s policies are considered hate speech, while her calling Rush a murderer who she wished death upon is considered comedy.
This madness has to stop. Ordinary people have to stop cowering in fear. Hatred is poison, and no minority group should use past injustices as a sledgehammer against innocent victims today. It is not about race, gender, or sexual orientation. It is about basic human decency. So once again, let me explain to the left how human decency works.
I want Barack Obama to personally succeed. I want his marriage to remain strong, and his children to grow up and lead happy lives. I want him to experience intellectual growth, emotional nourishment, physical strength, and medical normalcy.
I also want Barack Obama’s policies to fail if I believe they are bad for America.
His health care idea in its current form is too heavy with government bureaucracy and too light on free enterprise. The idea in its current form needs to fail. If he would work with Republicans on a better plan, that plan may deserve to succeed.
His cap and trade idea has the potential to become a regulatory nightmare that will destroy the American economy. Any plan derived from that idea should fail.
He wants to raise capital gains taxes. This will be a disincentive to invest. This will be a disincentive to take risks. America was founded on the idea of entrepreneurship and risk taking. Raising capital gains taxes is bad for America. I want this policy to fail. If he tries to lower capital gains taxes, I will want this policy to succeed. I do not care where good or bad ideas come from. I care about the actual ideas.
This is why I am a conservative. I have no patience for ideological bigotry.
Some liberals will howl that I am lumping them all in with Wanda Sykes. My response to them is that if they want to be separated from such vile speech, they must unequivocally condemn it. They should howl at Ms. Sykes, not me.
Evil exists when good people do nothing to stop it. Calling somebody a murderer and wishing for their kidneys to fail, even in the context of a joke, is evil. Yet I don’t want Wanda Sykes to die. I don’t want her kidneys to fail. I want her to become a better human being. For now, the world will be a better place if Wanda Sykes has one thing fail…her vocal chords.
When every leftist bully from the executive level to Congresspeople to their parasitic defenders from Hollywood and the media gets laryngitis, the healing can begin.

Dear Ms. Sykes,
If Rush Limbaugh saying he wants Obama policies to fail amounts to treason, then what do you call the millions of Bush-haters that this country has had to endure for the last eight years.
I'm not saying two wrongs make a right – just trying to remove that false shroud of fairness… after all, no one's made a movie about the assasination of Obama…
The thing about Rush is that he CAN take it (and give it), unlike those pansies who cry "hate speech" when they hear jokes that a) they don't like/think are funny, b) don't jibe with their ideology, c) cut into the truth a little too deeply to their liking (otherwise, WHY would it bother them so much?); this goes for both sides, who need to learn there's NO such thing as hate speech (at least that which does not incite violence, which I don't believe Ms. Sykes' uneven-at-best roast did)!
Rush said that he wants Obama to fail 'if his policies are socialist.' This is the power of yellow journalism.

She wasn't funny. She was somewhat humorless – though in a sour way – but she wasn't funny. You can't call this woman a comedienne (though she IS a bad joke).
But what got me was something else – that elephant in the living room. The media's pandering to black racism. Only by understanding that can anything else be explained. If Wanda were white, she wouldn't have been allowed to buss the tables, let alone entertain. Like I said, she's not talented, she doesn't have the wit or intelligence or needle sharp timing of a true comedienne – at best, she's humorous. Yet here she was headlining one of THE most presitigious political events of the year. And there's only one reason for why that happened. The media's pandering to black racism. Wanda was up there because she's black – not because she's talented or smart or witty. And that elephant in the living room just unloaded a bomb of hate and meanness and cruelty. And the entire media (save for Fox) is just sitting there telling us it smells great.

Sykes uses jokes that are crude and humorless. She is also bigoted at times. I tried hard but never found that this woman "comedian" was funny.

I think Ms Sykes further illustrates the sad fact that the Left in this country is so enraged that it is impossible for them to conduct themselves in a civil fashion. They find offense at the slightest provocation and project their hate onto whatever has displeased them instead of attempting to engage in rational discourse. The Polical Correctness that is tearing this country apart will eventually run its course and the old saw that what goes around, comes around will once again be proven true. Then the Left will indeed have something to yell about once their ox gets gored a time or two.
I agree with you on the whole, but what's with this "became a lesbian" bit? Did it occur to you that maybe her marriage failed because she was naturally a lesbian and couldn't love her husband in a romantic way?

i thought wanda's words about rush pulled back the curtain on the liberal's true stance on a few issues: they agree with torture afterall, they wish death to those who oppose them (exception to the rule = Islamic terrorists), they think jokes about a torture attack on american soil is funny stuff, they will twist what one says to their advantage.

I'm sure this has been brought up a million times since Rush's comment, but the history establishment considers the among greatest (i.e. most successful) U.S. presidents to be Lincoln and FDR. How can that be, when the Civil War and the Great Depression/WWII were, almost without a doubt, the absolute worst two periods in American history? I'll tell you how. A president's success has little to do with the success or failure of the country. If anything, it's the opposite, because really bad situations are opportunities for expanded authority. And what makes a leader great, if not being able to impose his will on the nation?

I, for one, am glad that Ms. Sykes had the opportunity to display her opinions, views, intellect and attitude. Had she not said what she said in this public and televised forum, I would not have the opportunity to become informed on her views. Now that I know, that not only is she rude, crude, and hateful but inconsistent in her values, I can make my decision in a more informed manner. I will no longer watch "The New Adventures of old Christine", I will not eat at Applebee's, and I will continue my boycott of "Monster-In-Law" (Sorry J-Lo, nothing personal, it's all about your co-star Jane Fonda).

The Left continues to prove that it's too stupid to understand humor, decency, the United States of America and citizens sharing their opinions such as has and does Rush Limbaugh.
When he said that he hopes Obama fails, the Left can't distinguish between policy and personal tragedy. Limbaugh opines in support of the former, the Left is entirely (and exceptionally negatively) focused on the latter, unable to even understand the difference.
Obama's policies are rotten and many Americans know it. If Barry, however, wants to continue to dance his life away amidst his party-friends on the streets of Chicago or Saudi Arabia, wherever, fine, let the guy try and enjoy himself.
If he opts to dance the life away of our country and us citizens in the meantime, no go, that's a fail.
Limbaugh understands the difference, the Right and other Americans understand the difference, but the Left, they're still stuck over there grabbing, jabbing, hating-away about AMERICANS and the country, unable to distinguish policy (behavior) from individual destiny (in this case, Barry's destiny is nearing minus-million-and-one, and Sykes' was long since lost to undescribable negatives).

One isn't a lesbian if and as they a female who isn't sexually attracted to a man they've married or are spending time with. Sometimes females just make the wrong choices, are talked into relationships they are not fond of, get involved for material security and hope things will later develope — granted, strange things all — but it's often a result of social immaturity or naivete when they are and when they leave a man for sexual imcompatibility, they are often heterosexuals in need of another heterosexual.
On the other hand, homosexuals do engage heterosexuals for purposes of intentionally misleading both themselves and those they've gotten involved with.

How anyone could sit through that was impossible to imagine. I would have liked to have seen at least one person get up and walk out. I cannot imagine Palin's husband not getting up and walking out after hearing his wife, and daughter, joked about. Shame on them all.

She's a stand-up comedian and also shows up in the occasional movie or TV episode. I thought she was kinda funny in her few appearances on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm… but that's about it.
I am a Republican and I know that in today's world a very large proportion of people on the other side of the political spectrum would like for my opinions to be suppressed and for me and everyone who agrees with me to die. They say it over and over again. They would like to have us locked up and not allowed to disagree with the present administration because that disagreement means that we are ignorant, evil, racists and have no right to be citizens of the US of A. Their feelings seem to be that there should be no speech allowed that is in opposition to leftist beliefs.
This is not paranoia on my part but has been stated many, many times by members of the left. Wanda Sykes just happens to be the latest one to make the news.
I live in a city where it is dangerous to put a Republican bumper sticker on your car or a window sign in your window because your car may get keyed (which has happened to our neighbors) or you may get a brick through your window.

I should say conservatives with a small 'c'. Meaning commentors on sites like Right Wing News, Hot Air and even here. But so what? People have a right to call other people names. It's a protected right.
But I don't mean big named conservatives in the media or politics. Most stay away from this thing. I mean, she said a stupid thing. But alas she is an entertainer – like Rush and Coulter. Although they actually have some power in the Republican party. Sykes does not. I'd never heard of her before the weekend. And we probably won't again.

This is another nonsensical argument. I've seen numerous people on the right compare Obama to Hitler (a right wing fascist). A simple search on Google will show you such comparisons to Hitler to the president are committed far more often by the right. Do a search on "Obama and Hitler" and you get ~7 million pages of results. Compare that with "Bush and Hitler" and you get ~1 million in results (even though Bushes have been in positions of national power for over 30 years).
When your arguments fail to acknowledge their logical counterparts it shows that you are biased. You don't care about being fair and intellectually honest any more than Hannity or Limbaugh or Al Franken does.

The real surprise to me wss that Sykes was invited to perform as a comedian at this function. She's not even remotely funny, but then libs. aren't known for their sense of humor. They're known for cheap and mean-spirited attacks on subjects about which they are poorly informed. Given that, maybe she was the perfect person to host this event after all.

Find me someone else who was pro same-sex marriage back in '96 but who now, 13 years later, has changed their mind. Obama is saying what he needs to say. He knows he'll have a lot more political capital if he stays neutral on the issue. The end justifies the means.
Does Limbaugh describe himself as a "fierce advocate" for the rights of gays and lesbians? Again, you can say what you want about Obama's "stated position", but their position on the *rights* that gays and lesbians should have in this country are almost polar opposites.

I think anyone who said equally horrible things about Ms. Sykes is out of line, but I also don't think most mainstream conservatives would agree with that tactic either. Maybe small "d" conservatives…

Agreed, those are some ugly and uncalled-for sentiments, to be sure. Some are really gross.
But they're all toward established leaders who've dictated policy of some sort, or are symbolic for having a large following. It's not hard to find similar statements from the right wing toward liberal leaders. People of all stripes get venomous and extreme.
I'm talking specifically about examples where a normal person is threatened with imprisonment and/or death for having conservative leanings, as Aprilmay describes.
Because in my experience such sentiments are extremely rare, to say the least, despite Aprilmay's conviction that they "say it over and over again."
Most liberals — like conservatives, and the majority of Americans in general — tend to have a pretty live-and-let-live attitude. And ugly demonization on either side hopefully won't change that. "Agree to disagree" is still as vital now as ever.
