This "edgy" crap is just another legacy of the '60s. Just keep in mind that what it really means is "annoy your parents," and everything gets a lot clearer.

When I was a kid in the '40s I learned to sing and improvise listening to Ella Fitzgerald on AM radio. Imagine my sadness witnessing the endless tantrum of the "artists" of the last 40 years.

Well, finally some honesty about the NEA on this site. You're mad that your friends didn't get grants. There are plenty of artists from the left and right who feel the same way, but I'm not really sure how coherent of a political position that is.

The headline for this op-ed and the image gave me a good idea: change the name of the National Endowment for the Arts, to National Entitlement for the Arts.

Something tells me Michaelangelo would never have gotten an NEA grant for the Sistine Chapel.

Some of these lefties are on record as stating that we, as a freedom loving country, have a duty to not only permit dissent, but support it with tax dollars. For the moment, let's ignore the fact that this nation is hardly a bastion of right wing oppression in the first place and allow their argument to stand its shaky ground. Now let's assume that, heaven forfend, the left is eventually successful in creating yet another (doomed) iteration of a workers' paradise here in the good ol' USA. Does anyone think the party then in power will be so supportive of dissent from the right? Has history EVER shown this to be the case?

I can hear it now: "Well, we can't allow right wing dissension because everybody knows it's just WRONG!"

Just Google Martin Luther King Statue and you've got your NEA/Acorn-esque story and all you will ever need to know about the NEA.. Yep, that's right, 90 million quacks to a Chinese communist to sculpt Martin Luther King in Washington out of Chinese granite imported via slave labor camp.. Not a black sculptor, not Virginia granite, not even an American sculptor is involved because the NEA doesn't think there are any.. Our first Washington landmark created by a communist.. It's like Pol Pot making the Vietnam War Memorial..

No taxpayer money should ever go to NEA. It is not fair to anyone — whether a mechanic or a farmer or a Wall Street broker to take their hard earned dollars through taxes to support "art" — regardless of the type of art — a glass of urine with a cross or a future classical masterpiece painting. No taxation for art!

Well put, Mr. Balogh. These so-called 'artists' are just another stripe of welfare recipients who feel entitled to the fruits of others' labor. When they cry about censorship for failure to secure a subsidy from the taxpayers, they once again demonstrate their ignorance of the concept. Equating a passive disinclination to financially support their 'art' (or anybody's, for that matter) with the legal proscription of its creation & distribution is sheer idiocy- the logic of spoiled children.

And on a related note, similar to the attitude of Michael Moore toward capitalism.
