Why I Took My Family To a Tea Party
by Doug TenNapelI’ve never been to a protest. I hate protesters because they seem to be professional bitchers. They’re quick to complain and jump to picket signs and screaming at the drop of a hat. I once had lunch on a sidewalk cafe as a bunch of war protesters sat two tables away from us. I wouldn’t want my kids near that protest because the teens were screaming so loud and some were covered in fake blood, carrying signs with Bush super imposed with Hitler. Their chants included saying “fuck” a lot. Apparently, daddy’s private school money didn’t pay for an etiquette workshop.
But on Tea Party Day, no freaks show up. Because the issue isn’t about complaining that an untraditional group can’t get married. It’s not about opposing a war that some people approve and others don’t. It’s about being over-taxed to fund bail outs and expand government to exert control over the citizens. Who, besides this administration isn’t for that?
My family is safe among the over-taxed people. Hopefully, there will be a higher percentage of conceal and carriers…all the more American. No broken windows, nobody takes their clothes off. Nobody makes out in front of my kids. There are lots of nice old ladies wearing red white and blue. I love seeing the American flag in the hands of people who know how to use it. They wave it with gusto because it’s not the first time they’ve ever touched a flag. They didn’t have to buy one for Tea Party Day.
I want my kids to see this. It’s important for them to see that middle America gets mad too. Protests aren’t just for lefty victims and college kids. The politicians may not be listening and frankly, it would surprise me if this administration listened to my protest as much as they gave an ear to Europe. They’re more eager to listen to France than to American Republicans. After all, they know their constituents.
Now all that’s left is to watch media declare the tea party a quagmire, a sexual innuendo, an act of hypocrisy. The usual.

I could not put time in at the Iowa City tea party, but I was able to drive past it just now and honk my horn in support.
At 11:30, just as the event was starting, there were around sixty people on the Burlington Street bridge, and more arriving.
The best part about the Iowa City location is that Burlington Street borders the University of Iowa, a VERY liberal institution. There will be a lot of perplexed undergards and angry faculty walking and driving past in the next hour on their way to and from indoctrination sessions.
I do wish the anti-abortion people had kept their "Hitler's Holocaust=America's Holocaust" sign at home. Aside from the fact that I don't agree with the hard-core pro-lifers, this is a protest about financial irresponsibility, not abortion. Plus, the MSM will smear the whole thing as an anti-abortion protest.
I approve of the message of that sign, even at a financial irresponsibility protest.
As a pro-life, pro-second amendment, pro-limited govenrment conservative, I observe that people who are squishy about maintaining absolute protection for the lives of the innocent are squishy about everything else. That's why Janet Napolitano wants to keep her eye on us rather than on Mexican drug-runners and Saudi-financed "charities".
This will be my protest ever (unless you include my protesting the protests against Bush in London). I couldn't be more excited.
As for kids, I like your position. You want them to see patriots. Still, I have always been skeptical of seeing the kiddies at protests though (I hate seeing them at pro-life rallies and anti war rallies alike). it seems like it robs their innocence and doesnt allow them to form their own opinions. Besides, they don't get to vote.
I'm there in spirit (way to far to travel) and I'm hoping that I am not given a reason by my own government to have to attend an Australian version of a Tea Party.
Though I've no idea what we would call it here. Maybe a 'Home Brew Party', as they've raised the taxes so high we cannot afford beer and we have to brew it ourselves.
Sigh…nothing good ever comes of the "libertarian vs conservative" debate on abortion, but here goes…
I am not convinced that an embro in the first trimester is deserving of full status and protection as a human being. I am convinced that third-trimester abortions are murder.
My "squishiness" has nothing to do with my staunch support of the Second Amendment, and quite a bit to do with my firm belief in limited government.
I'm going to the one tonight in Franklin TN at 6pm, the excitement in our community is palpable. Honestly I'll be shocked if we have less than 500 people in this extremely affluent, highly educated mid American community.
I remember all y'all's cute little tea tantrums during the Bush years, when Dubya was pissing away the Clinton surplus and jumping recklessly into a war of choice that our great-grandchildren will still be paying for.
That is to say, I would remember them, if they had happened.
Just came from the Philly one. Great turnout in spite of cold rain. I'd say about 300 people turned out in support plus one visible anti-anti-tax protester.
Here is a fun pic:

Not quite the people MSNBC would have you believe attended.

Thanks for the info- if you go into AOL you will see absolutely NO mention of these gatherings- but when ACORN did the bus ride to harass AIG employees they were all over it. So there's that…
Know what? If someone staged one, I would have been there. Bush didn't see an expense he didn't like.
even though we do not agree we think this to be a principled position- not 'squishy' at all. No, Bart and Milhouse see Apu for pure Squishy syrup- (Apu) "pure squishy? such a thing has never been done. If you survive, come again"
The sign in the picture says it all. "Government by the people is now Government vs the people". Our government is no longer "Of the people, by the people and for the people". This is not a partisan issue but one that threatens every citizen and their children. Unless we halt the governments leaching of wealth and power we will cease to be the land of the free.
I'm all for this too! Since I wasn't able to make it one either, I'll have a 'Home Brew/Tea Party' right where I'm at.
I just got back from the Franklin, NC Tea Party. The population of the whole county is around 32,000 and I conservatively estimate the turnout at 1000. It was inspiring to see so many folks understanding the dangers of the current administration assault on the Constitution.
"It’s about being over-taxed to fund bail outs and expand government to exert control over the citizens. Who, besides this administration isn’t for that?"
The prior administration gave $700 billion to the banks, so I guess that would make administrations in general, but lets ignore that because its more fun to point fingers at the other guys!
Wheres my bail-out as my tax bill wiped out my savings?
"tea bagging obama" is funny in any language, including 'Austrian'
Of course the MSM is doing it's best to undermine the teaparties by using terms like "Teabagging" I haven't even watched this video with sound. Just seeing the captions was enough to make me see red. (Okay, just listened and now I'm REALLY offended. Repeatedly uses "teabagging" in such a deliberate way. I hate these people).
We had at least 500 people at the beginning of the tea party protest in liberal, bluest-of-the-blue-states Rochester, NY. I had to leave early, but people were still coming. I was surprised, as I expected far less. A few Paulnuts were there with their "America is a Surveillance State!" banner, and there were a few churches interested in spreading the faith (which, as a Christian, I can't exactly get mad at), but all in all, it was a friendly group. I'm hoping that 500 grew even more after I left.
Conversation on Univ. of Iowa campus (or any other): What are these rednecks doing? Don't they understand that Obama's trying to help them with all this spending? We're on their side, not those greedy free-market capitalists! Those bitter Republicans must have put them up to this, somehow; they could never have started this on their own…
No legitimate opposition to liberal goals is possible, you see. And watch and see if some of that mock dialogue doesn't get picked up as "objective reporting" by the evening news and MSNBC before the day is out.
I want to bring 2nd Amendment signs.
We must be tolerant.
Going to the Dockweiler Beach (Los Angeles) party south of LAX at 1pm! It's a beautiful day for a rational protest!
Midnight,Its quite likely that most of the protestors are socially conservative. So are you willing to chase off eighty percent of your supporters in order to feel comfy? There's like 2% of the populace thats Libertarian, and that 2% does a lot of damage with their snarks which provide cover for the RINO gutless pols in Washington.I agree that the mediots would LIKE to smear it as you say, but there are some sharks too large even for them to haul over a tank.
Are you absolutely convinced that an embryo in the first trimester is not human? If I had a dozen revolvers, and only one was loaded with one bullet, it still would be criminal for me to play Russian roulette with you as the target. Even with odds of 1 in 72.I'm a believer in Limited Gov't with Enumerated Powers. The Founding Fathers had to square the circle between Strong Gov't (tyranny) and Weak Gov't (anarchy), and what they chose was Weak, but Strong in a few areas. Protecting Life is one of the few functions of a proper US Constitutionalist gov't.
I attended the Pasadena Tea Party and this girl gave a speech. Have you guys seen it?-
http://www.popmodal.com/video/2333/Pia-Varma-spea...
Here's a fun factoid:
KKOB tried to reach each member of our paltry three Democrat Congressional members.
None could comment.
In fact, the station was told "current scheduling" prevented any comment.
Now, in other words, a country that can talk to inanimate robots on Mars, communicate instantly in real time over the interwebs, can pick up a cell phone and talk to someone else in some of the craziest isolated places on this earth, can have surgeons in one city perform lifesaving procedures on another human being in another; simply cannot talk to the press because they hung out a sign saying they were "too busy?"
I can fix this quick, fast, and in a hurry. You get to stay home next election cycle and find another line of work.
And you deserve that.
I've been following the tea parties live on twitter: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23teaparty
There are some good tweets coming from people who are there at the events, but they are all but drowned out by the ignorami who have no clue what it's about, and have no problem parading their ignorance for all to see.
We're having one tonight in Orlando. I won't be able to go I'm afraid, but I'll be there in spirit.
So what, as a stay at home mom I have to shell out money to hire a babysitter if I want to attend a protest? there is no perfect objective playing field where kids get presented with the mythical "every side of the issue" and then "form their own opinions." Either their father and I are going to teach our children what we think is truth or we're going to give our responsibility away and let other people teach them what they think is true. I know which option I'm going to choose.
What Washington has managed to do is piss off the silent majority, never a good plan. This country is swinging back right and fast, stay vigilant and we’ll put thing right in 2010. This country is great because of it’s people, not it’s government.
"Besides, they don't get to vote," and yet they are being taxed.
Good deal! I have family up there, so I'll have to ask if they'd heard anything.
New Yorkers have their own problem with an out of control state government. I can't imagine living like that, but with Obama, I'll probably find out.

I said I have always BEEN skeptical–until now, I haven't seen a protest that wasn't steeped in a radical framework. I am all for the kiddies going to this one. As a parent, especially one so actively involved in their education, I respect your right to choose what they see/are exposed to.
Their signs can say " You better hope I don't grow up to be John Galt"
I would have as well. I did not vote for Bush [quasi-republican] i.e he spent to much money & I did not vote for "O" [socialist] i.e. has spent more money in 3 months than every president before him…..combined. The Clinton surplus? Really? You mean the surplus that came from the Republican contract with the people under Newt Gingrich (who I am not fond of either). Would it be that surplus? You mean the one that the Goracle wanted to put in a lock box? The one that all the democrats wanted divied up for their earmarks? And you really believe the best way for you to get that surplus back is……….what……..spend a couple Trillion dollars more? So if our great grandchilderen are going to pay for the Iraq war, how many generations down must we go to pay off the big "O"'s crap?
Greetings from San Francisco. I'm headed downtown in hopes that the rally here will grow into a riot. It's being held near my bank, which I will be robbing during the protest in order to pay this year's taxes. With a little luck and my handy Obama mask, the distraction outside may keep them from recognizing me inside.

Nice piece, but how was the tea party you attended beyond the nice old ladies? Speakers? Singers? Where was it? How many attendees? Just curious. The site should have an open thread about it.
I did not vote for Bush [quasi-republican] i.e he spent to much money & I did not vote for "O" [socialist] i.e. has spent more money in 3 months than every president before him…..combined. Besides of which, Bush only released the second half of the tarp funds at Obama's request, and you really want to pine about $700 billion, when "O" projects $10 trillion. "but lets ignore that because its more fun to point fingers at the other guys!"
Since I am not an abortion absolutist, and as a Lutheran I have no church-sanctioned rule against abortions under limited circumstances, I can understand your point without agreeing with you. The first trimester concept was bad science and worse law when Roe v Wade was decided. For many of us, viability is the issue, and that comes earlier than the end of the first trimester. Like Tennwriter, I would err strongly on the side of caution. And as a federalist, I want the damned national government out of state decision-making. Your argument makes sense about third trimester versus first trimester in that we have fifty states with their own scientists and their own democratic governments who should have more right to make the decision about when life begins than nine gray eminences in isolation in Washington DC. I suspect that with the Supreme Court getting its nose out of state business, there would be states for pro-abortionists, anti-abortionists, liberals, conservatives, libertarians, and pretty much anything in-between. The decision about when life begins is far too important to be put in the hands of nine judges in a nation as large and diverse as ours.
Do not know about his, but you can go here http://www.richmondteaparty.com/welcome.html – to find out about the one I am attending. I will let you know a first hand account in the am.
The MSM won't have time to use the anti-abortion red herring. They'll be too busy arguing that Holder is right, the right wing lunatics are forming cadres to overthrow the government by force and violence, and the rotting corpse of Timothy McVeigh is out there leading them.
Shuster (scheister) is such a tool. Glad he left Fox and went to where he belongs. With the liberal sissy boys at MSDNC. Punk.
Agreed! btw it is now "A Government of the Government, by the Government, and for the Government"
Wow, was he (an open minded liberal) calling everyone at these functions gay. Isn't that hate speach? What does he have against gays, that he would consider using this as an insult. According to all the dems on this page (& Barney Franks), I was under the impression that it was Republicans & Christians that are the homophobes. But low and behold, they impune one group of people for the very behavior they exhibit…..hmmmmmmmmm.
The price of this war is miniscule to the upcoming additions to our debt from the great one, Obama.
At first I was going to say that but it's not entirely true. The politicians are not in it for the government but for themselves. The only interest they have in the government is what they can get out of it. So it's more like:
"and that government of the people" (the governance of the people), by the politicians and for the politicians.
The only decisions they make that are in favor of the people are geared towards buying votes and securing their power base. Again this is not a partisan issue. These elitist millionaire lawyers, career politicians and ex-CEOs exist on both sides of the isle. These bureaucrats have become embedded like ticks and even after the painful process of pulling them out a little piece of them remains to infect the area they had dug into. Term limits seem to be the only salve that will cause them to let go before they have engorged themselves.
At the tea party I attended today, the most touching protest I saw was a torn and tattered American flag being flown upside down, the signal of acute distress. It touched my heart because the America we knew and loved is
under terrible distress and, in fact, in danger of going under.
I thought BO got that $700 billion going for TARP. That is what the media told us during the debates. That his great leadership through that crisis proved he was ready to lead.
You can bet that the MSM will focus on a few radical "plants" and then label every PEACEFUL protestor as an extreme nutjob.
BTW, I'm really begining to believe that not as many people voted for obama as the government and the MSM would have us belive. I believe obama would have won even if he had gotten zero votes. It's all part of some master plan by the "higher ups". It may sound paranoid or whatever but IMO something sinister is at play here and I don't believe it's going be anything we can control.
There's going to be a tea party tonight here in Phoenix but sadly I can't go..I will definitely be there in spirit though.
Are you TEABAGGERS serious? (are you aware it's also a sex act?) Where were you when Bush/Cheney were starting a WAR of CHOICE and spending $2,000,000,000 of OUR tax money? Killing and maiming thousands of civilians and solders….You looked the other way for the past 8 years and now that the economy is in the tank, unemployment is at record highs, housing market on it's knees, etc. NOW you're upset???
Remember, You Get What You Pay For…IF You're Lucky!
Hey idiot..No one is using the term "teabag" except you filthy lefties. The term is TEA PARTY or can't you read.
The "Clinton Surplus" was created by HIGHER TAXES. Most people I hear use that term "Clinton Surplus" think that we were actually in the black part of the balance sheet then, because the media lapdogs painted it that way…WRONG!!! It was some creative accounting that made it seem there was positive cashflow; we were nowhere near being in the black and there was no reserve fund of cash built up.
We didn't ask for SOCIALISM, but that's what Barack is putting in place right now, and everybody will pay for that.
You're just too brainwashed and indoctrinated in socialist thinking to understand the implications of that.
my goodness these people are an embarrassment.
No idiot, people who deny that this country was founded on the constitiution are the true idiots. People like the left who want to undermine what the founding fathers stood for are idiots. People who walk all over the vets who fought to keep this country FREE are idiots, NOT freedom loving Americans. Get your priorities straight pal and read a little or a LOT.
I've already had a few too many for the cause tonight. Now it's time for bed.
LOL… Good luck, hope you get enough to pay your taxes and the taxes for the rest. Where did you manage to get the dumbo mask?
"But on Tea Party Day, no freaks show up."
Oh, come on now, Doug. You're better than that.
I'm largely sympathetic to what are supposed to be the foundational grievances of the Tea Partyers here: lower taxes, smaller gov, etc. All good things. You and I, I believe, would have a lot to agree with in regards to these rallies. But you and I both ALSO know full-well that there WILL be "freaks" in abundance at these – perhaps not at yours specifically, I'll grant, but at more than enough of them. There'll be guys shouting legitimately racist slogans, people squealing about Obama's birth certificate or how "We ARE a CHRISTIAN NATION!!!," almost-definately a few crudely-xeroxed dead fetus pics just for good measure. I've already started to see the photos. The Right has it's crazies just like The Left does, to pretend otherwise is at best disingenuous.
From the local Democrat Circus, Costume and Voodoo Store.
these things are pure "astroturf" (FAKE GRASS ROOTS!) manufactured by the usual elite right wing billionaires.
I can name more LEFT wing billionaires then you can probably name Right wing.
This was my first protest as well. Earlier, I was at the Culpeper, Virginia, tea party, where we had probably 300-400 people standing out in the cold rain. There were kids, elderly folks, military vets–people from all walks of life. It was peaceful and respectful, and I didn't see a single police officer anywhere in the vicinity. The signs were very clever and impassioned. My favorite was a young old girl holding a sign that said "I'm already $36,000 in debt!"
I wonder how big the next one will be when the weather is nicer and there is even more planning involved.
you are the idiot, and a douche-bag to boot. the Constitution allows for taxation provided there is representation. DUH. and by the way, the Constitution didn't exist for 10 years until after this country was founded – maybe you should do some reading a-hole.
[...] Why I Took My Family To a Tea Party by Doug TenNapel [...]
I went to a tea party today. We had a good little turn out. Most of the passers by showed support even though one gentleman told us to where we place our klan robes.
The interesting part for me was that there are Americans protesting for less government, fewer handouts, and less regulation. My experiance with Europe shows just the opposite. Europeans will hit the streets over slight cuts in government handouts or demands they work more.
Here in Salt Lake City, we had two events scheduled. I went to the one downtown, it seemed like at least 1,000 people turned out in a busy SNOWSTORM. We had local speakers, looks like the Atty. Gen. for the state might want to run for senator, lots of ordinary people expressing opinions on bailouts, high taxes, the Fed, you name it; couldn't find any ACORN plants or counter-protesters, I guess it was too cold for them to get involved. If we can keep this level of participation, I know we will turn this country around.
Just got back from the Sacramento Party at the state capitol. Spent an hour just driving around trying to find a place to park. It was so big (still anticipating Johnny Carson asking HOW BIG WAS IT? – but you could hardly hear the speakers which included Neil Cavuto of Fox, Michael Reagan, Tom McClintock (our representative) –
On Tom Sullivan's show – Tom was interviewing Grover Norquist and he made an interesting point. To the fact that you will hear virtually none of this from the MSM, the same situation occurred with the movement to enact term limits in 1992 – the MSM virtually ignored it – but we all know what happened…
Everyone was well behaved and not a trace of trash left on the ground. News accounts put attendance at 6,000. And I was making bets with people whether we'd even see this in our local newspaper.
CNN aka the crybaby news network, trolls and all the other losers who let Obama and his ilk steal from the people should wake up soon.
All wars are wars of choice. That is the whole point of pacifism. Will you damn Roosevelt for responding to Pearl Harbor? Why did we go to war with Germany? They did not attack us. We could have given into the Japanese and spent our resources building homes of Americans. Did you cry when Clinton took America into Kosovo or Bosina where there were no American interests at stake?
Bush spent too much. Conservatives are not denying that and they abandoned him because of it. Still the amount he spent pales in comparison to what Obama is wasting. I am still waiting for you Leftists to explain to me with an A+B=C equation how Bush ruined the economy. All we have is acccusations and hyperbole from the Left. But this is nothing new. The Left never has to prove its points with actual facts. If that was so we would have ended the welfare state in the 70s.
So in an area with roughtly six million inhabitants, you got 300 protestors — and you think that's a great turn out? What is that, .0005 of a percent? Wow. I can see why you guys are so sure you'll take congress back in 2010.
That must be true. Because in Philly, .0005 percent of the entire population came out to protest! That's like 300 people! And if they didn't vote for Obama, then clearly no one did!
Sorry, Michah, but this is simply not true. A "war of choice" is one launched by a country that has not been attacked and is not necessary for the defense of the nation. We were attacked by the Japanese, and since they had a treaty with Germany, once we were at war with them we were also as war with the Nazis.
I have never been to a protest, I have always had a special hate for protesters, has anyone seen PCU? It's a great comedy of political correctness and protest run ramped, and in that movie they really showed the intolerance, ignorance and variety of I-Mac liberal protests. The recent college protesters and G-20 protesters shows the ugly face of leftist rallies, and it stokes my hate even more.
I just returned from the Lansing, MI rally and it was great! It was like no other protest that I have ever seen in person or on T.V., young and old, men and women, squares and rebels, all Americans. It was peaceful, pro-American, pro-community and it was a grass root cheer to take America back. The roar of USA and The National Anthem was amazing!
It was not about Obama winning and GOP losing, it was about this administration and congress continuing the same old out of control spending. Most of the attacks were actually directed to our great governor, and the continuing spending in our state. Obama was supposed to bring "change" yet he continues to spend like Bush, and the Democrat congress has picked the spending up, compared to their last 2 years of their control.
This is our outrage and this has to continue to be the focus, accountability and stop wasting of our money. There are many other worthy values that we need to fight for, but these need to be handled separately, this protest is truly bi-partisan, lets keep it that way, and not let this be about sour grapes, but instead Sweet American Tea…Drink up and God Bless.
Well weirdo, just because only about 300 or so showed up doesn't necessarily mean that they voted for obama. It just means that they're probably AFRAID to show up because of the exposure to the MSM and being labeled as the MSM is so fond of doing.
Oh Ouch! Struck a chord with the IDIOT line did we? Tsk tsk tsk..Oh gee I'm just so MEAN. Boo hoo hoo go home to mommy poor little leftie.
Tea parties all over Arizona, not just in Phoenix. It's really quite telling when people who attend Code Pink rallies are described as brave but ordinary moms and dads who show up for a tea party rally to voice their opinions are being portrayed as right-wing zealots. President Obama and Janet Napolitano, are you listening?
http://the100mostannoyingthings.blogspot.com/
Went to a tea party here in my state of Washington ( A very blue state especially the west side) and there was about 700 people in the afternoon. Lots of speakers and I took my kids and they had a great time. There were many people of all ages. I didn't see any nuts and everyone was very pleasant. The people are getting tired of the careless spending of Gov. The other Washington is going to have to pay atttention eventually. (I can only hope)
LOL @ all these retardo TEABAGGERS!
you lost the election, so now you don't wanna pay taxes. wah wah wah. you guys epitomize "sore losers"!
It is so shameful the way the media has portrayed these protests(and fully expected it). These protestors are citizens of this country and deserve to have their views respected. I have had a very low opinion of the media and our representatives for guite some time now. Their actions on this day only reinforce to me how little they respect our views and see us as stupid and on the fringe. I don't know what will come of these tea parties. I do know that I will listen even less to what our media and representatives have to say, and I didn't think that was possible. Very Depressing.
The local news reported 10,000 protesters at the Nashville tea party I attended. It was fun, respectful and impassioned, and I took all my kids.
Why didn’t you go to a similar protest when G.W.Bush was throwing out money to airlines, insurance companies, etc after the September 11th attacks? Why didn’t I see anyone protest then?
I do not understand, why people do not get it, all these TEA PARTIES PROTEST had been planned by the REPUBLICAN PARTY, Why they did not organized protest when BUSH was getting us in this economic mess. REPUBLICANS have short memory, we have to remind them that their party eight years of wrong policies get us in this economic caos. These actions from the REPUBLICANS are a disgrace to the country, and make us look in the eyes of the world like a bunch of idiots, that do not know how and where we can solve our problems, we have to met our representatives, our congressmen, organize(non political) townhall meetings in our communities like civilized people, that's why we elect our representatives. Please stop the insults to that group of people who are trying to find the way to get us out these mess, BUSH and his croonies made this mess in eigth years, the new administration had been in office just for three month please let them work, all the country must be united and be positive, a lot of people didn't show a their work places because they attended the protest we can not afford disrupt our productivity in this times , be more responsible
Maybe because back then it wasn't the FAULT of the airlines and insurance companies it was the fault of TERRORISTS. We UNDERSTOOD the difference between failing through NO fault of their own and failing because of poor leadership. Something the lefties don't quite seem to grasp.
Well Vera, I no understand why for you need to comment. Maybe obama and croonies teach you eeenglish.
Wow. Somebody who gets it. When will the rest get it?
http://www.cipher-is.com/solrac
at 8weeks the ulrascan showed the baby moving with arms and legs separate and the facefully developed.. we have pictureres o prove it.he already looked like my grandson, it is murder.
A question I have is – what is the probability that we can change the face of Washington in 2010?
Any opinions?
http://www.cafepress.com/solrac
I am socially conservative, but this was a tax protest.
Hmmm…so spending "$2,000,000,000 of OUR tax money" is an outrage but spending 2 TRILLION of it is not? Or rather, protesting 2 trillion dollars in spending but not 2 billion is an outrage? Talk about your cognitive dissonance. The real Plato would be spinning in his grave to hear you unable to argue intelligently but rather bring Iraq back up in every argument, whether it's relevant or not.
Yes!!! I so called it! And we have the first leftist unable to understand that people are actually, genuinely ticked off by all this government spending, and fall back to the line that the elite right-wing billionaires put them up to this somehow. The grass roots are only real when they come from the left, because clearly no one would choose to be conservative or right-wing of their own accord. Continue in your state of denial, sir, the rest of us will be out protesting in this nice place I call Reality.
The problem is not taxes, it is overspending and mismanagement by government that demands we pay for their blunders(started by the republicans, as I am sure you know). Remember, government only takes money, it never makes it. I am more than willing to pay taxes, at some point there are no taxes to raise because there isn't any more money to take.
Just got back from attending my Tea Party in Portland, ME where we were told about 600 people attended. My sign: IF I WANTED PORK I'D GO TO THE STORE TO BUY IT! My sign was gracious enough to let me have my picture taken with it many times and the TV cameras also took an interest.
It was a wonderful success and now I feel like, like such an antagonist of the US government! YES!!
the government can act in a way to let the economy tank or not. (assuming you buy this assertion) which way will we be better off?

Democrat Circus, Costume, Voodoo Store, and Head Shop, don't forget they expanded recently.
But when Code Pink can get 12 people out on the street it's worthy of coverage on every network and shows "mass dissatisfaction" of the people right?
Most conservatives work for a living. There are probably a lot of people that would have liked to attend, and I know I'm one of them, but there's these little things conservatives believe in, like responsibility, which preclude many of them from actively participating. Unlike the massive leftist protests where you can see a lot of non-working, angry, bitter, probably chemically incapacitated people shouting their bile and drivel. Contrast that to the protests today, where conservatives were upbeat and positive.
We know they must have voted for Obama, because in Philly they usually turn out 105% of the voters and they usually all vote Democratical.
Went to the tea party in Glendale, CA. Very convivial and peaceful, except when some 911 Truthers started spreading their literature.
I agree that there are things the government can do to help. I do not believe growing the size of government is one of them. Remember, the guy that wrote the new deal for FDR eventually said it only accomplished extending the great depression. And don't forget the russian economist that Stalin shot in the head for concluding capitalism is better that socialism. The simple fact is that out founders had a fear of large government. I will always fear government more than a corporation. What corporation was in charge of the Pol Pot, Mussolini, Stalin or Hitler(and countless others) regimes. I keep hearing people say that the actions of Bush and Obama are not socialism. What I really need is for someone to explain to me how it is capitalism?
Again, we use the term "tea party", only you vile obscene socialists are trying to use the vulgar teabagger term. Which one are you, Beavis or Butthead? "Heh Heh, they said teabagger! Heh Heh!"
Yes, you are an embarrassment to the concept of free speech. I guess its "free speech for me, but not for thee"?
gee- if this were really about taxes & spending – and not just because you people are sore about loosing the election… then where were all of the other "Teabagging Parties" from the last 8 years when Bush and his cronies were spending like drunken sailors? HMMMM?!!! Isn't that special?

I hadn't forgotten about the "Head Shop." It's just that when I'm giving my hypocritical lectures on drug abuse, I can't have anyone know where I shop when they're not looking.
geez you are a nut.
before Bush, and after Bush, the USA was the world leader in capitalism.
before Clinton, and after Clinton, the USA was the world leader in capitalism.
before Carter, and after Carter, the USA was the world leader in capitalism.
before Johnson, and after Johnson, the USA was the world leader in capitalism.
before Kennedy, and after Kennedy, the USA was the world leader in capitalism.
before FDR, and after FDR, the USA was the world leader in capitalism.
You can bet your sweet bottom dollar that after Obama… we will still be the world leader of capitalism. FRIGGIN GET OVER IT YOU MANIACAL RETARDO FEAR MONGERS!!!
yeah, I understand that you are ticked off that your sorry a$$ side lost the election, and now you are ticked off because you are facing the music. TOO BAD!
congress has control of all money, bush kept safe for71/2 years with the same programs that obama has kept and is using so obama must be as baad in your belief sytem as bush, right?.
But on Tea Party Day, no freaks show up
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Good laugh.
You don't have to dig too far on YouTube or in the media to see a good number of freaks. Especially the ones carrying signs that show Obama looking like Hitler. You know, the same thing the Left did to Bush? Only it bothered you then but you shrug it off now. I saw one protest with a woman who wanted to burn books. And another with a guy who said Obama was a Fascist. When pressed how and why he just kept saying, "Cause he is. Cause he is." Nice logic.

What a surprise. Another liberal that believes in civilized debate. I knew my last comment would get you to show your true colors(mostly yellow). Cognitive dissident my left butt-cheek, your words show you to be nothing but a democrat ass monkey.
Bless you and your family, sir. This is American democracy at its best, and let us hope the naysayers won't be able to break down our resolve with their usual blitzkrieg of mainstream media and celebrity-sellout. Our children's future depends on it.
well well well, mister dingleberryface. I never pretended to be ANYTHing besides a unapologetic loudmouth LIBERAL TROLL….AND SO WHAT?
as far as my last posts' rantiness, YES I GET UNNERVED at all the constant talk of "SOCIALISM". At first I never understood where people where coming from with all of their scarey talk of socialism. Its like they are suggesting we're becoming the USSA or something.
Uh, no.
A little bit more regulation does not magically / instantly turn us into Communist Russia. Sorry.
Ditto for some much needed & popularly embraced GOVERNMENT EXPANSION.
(continued rant)
YES if by socialism, you fear mongers are so stricken with concern that our nation might be a bit more like the REST OF THE ENTIRE WORLD. then yeah, OOOOH S O C I A L I S M. I'm really so scared. BUT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE ALL THOUGHT WE WERE GETTING WITH OUR VOTES FOR OBAMA AND WE SURE BETTER GET IT.
AND NO, I'm NOT talking about far left COMMUNISM a la USSR, Cuba, Chavez etc.
Government will not solve our problems, BUT YES WE CAN have a Government that helps ease the situation. Without government – there is only anarchy.
Wow, that is a brilliant comeback! We are simultaneously creations of right-wing elitists and just having a fit over losing the elections. Clearly, we could not possibly have any intelligent opposition to the Obama administration. So are we real and angry/irrational, or just tools of the elite? Maybe instead of sticking some profanity in your comments, you should have an intelligent response. Oh, and when you get together for your next love fest with Auntie Fascist, please ask about the pie. We're all wondering.
I don't have a problem with a little more regulation, like the kind Bush tried to get on Freddie and Fannie, but was turned away by Frank and Dodd. The problems were created by both sides and I am tired liberal and conservative trolls . Neither of these things does a dissident make. Why do we need such a large down payment on a healthcare philosophy that has only ever worked in one tiny country. where they actually got to vote on it(in Britain they just told women with advanced breast cancer that they can't have the medicine because the country can't afford it). Americans volunteer and donate more than any other country, why do we even need the GIVE act? Why do we need to pass on such an incredible amount of debt to people that haven't even been born yet( this comes from the Congressional Budget Office)? I guess being concerned about these things, looking at the facts and not just blindly following makes me a nut. When you answer, remember that I have criticized republicans as well, so simply blaming the right won't be enough.
Funny, every other post on this site is how all the evil, rich liberals control the country. Now that it suits your convenience, the liberals are actually unemployed losers with all the time in the world. The fact is, you assume that anyone who doesn't share the exact details of your lunatic political philosophy must be a drug addict or evil conspirator. Sad.
I was watching my local lefty news and apparently no one showed up to any of the tea parties. I might have believed them if I hadn't have been there myself.
Not all liberals are unemployed losers with all the time in the world, but there are a lot who are. Look at all of the bizarro demonstrations of the past eight years where there were multitudes of foul mouthed, angry, bitter liberals at the protest du jour. And I would also say that there are probably some unemployed conservatives too. And yes, there are some evil rich limousine or lear jet (or in Pelosi's case, jumbo jet) liberals that control this country politically, and are trying to increase their control over the lives of the unsuspecting populace. Better luck next time trying to twist my words and meanings by trying to say "all" liberals blah blah blah. Bitter.
Doug, I couldn't agree more! I get so tired of the same old "Hey, hey, ho, ho" sing songy slogans, and cleverly worded, albeit profane, protest chants from the left. I've grown tired of their need to "create awareness" through protesting. As if we could be any more aware of global warming and every other liberal pet cause.
Most of us conservatives are more than happy to just live our lives peacefully, as long as the government leaves us alone. But that's kind of the point — the government has suddenly become much more intrusive under the new administration, and people are rightfully concerned, and now we're showing it…. peacefully.
Thanks for the great commentary, and the amazing work that you do. I am a big fan of Creature Tech, especially the meaning behind it.

I went to the Seattle WA tea party and it was fantastic. Hundreds of people–the place was packed and the crowd was really diverse. Young and old, rich and poor, all fed up with the freedom we see slipping away from us.
"I love seeing the American flag in the hands of people who know how to use it. They wave it with gusto because it’s not the first time they’ve ever touched a flag. They didn’t have to buy one for Tea Party Day."
And they didn't bring a single match.
Oceanside, CA, home of Camp Pendleton, had about 2000 people. I was expecting 50 people or so and was blown away when I saw the line of marchers that stretched for three blocks from city hall to the pier. I'm tired of the government ineptitude, fraud, and outright theft perpetrated by the criminals in Washington and Sacramento. Don't be fooled by the focus on Obama's spending and taxes, it's not just about money, it's also about the growing power of statist politicians who seek to control all facets of our lives and who want to change this nation for the worse.
And your evidence, CgntvDssdnt, is exactly where?
"no freaks show up because the issue isn’t about complaining that an untraditional group can’t get married." I suppose this quote says a lot about Mr. TenNapel . It is one of the most blatently homophobic things I have seen since I was in junior high and at most websites would have been removed (much less actually published). I rememeber earth worm jim as a kid but I will no longer buy anything made by this man. Thank you Mr TenNapel for seperating the "good" americans that wear nice hats and wave flags from the bad americans that lost their friends and/or legs in the war that based on a lie. Thank you for explaining to me how these people are so bad for using a certain 4 letter word by then using that 4 letter word. But where were you Mr. TenNapel when the regulations that caused this disaster where repealed. Where were you when spending got out of control paying for a war against a country based on lies that hurt our creditablitity.
If you are such a good american then standup for people that are gay that are in the military like my friends. Standup for the distraught. Standup for those that need it. And please, stop complaining about paying the taxes that cover their medical bills, build the roads that we all enjoy, and create the technology to finally end our dependency on oil.
Good Lord, Blarty, et tu? Yet another person too ill educated (or stupid) to understand that tu quoque is a fallacy. Yes, Bush was a fiscally irresponsible leader and conservative should have protested on fiscal grounds then, too. But that doesn't mean that Obama isn't more so and that doesn't mean that people can't wise-up and learn to protest. Why can't "But Bush was bad, too" people get that? A fallacy is, by definition, a bad argument. Of course, your cute little fallacious tantrum is about all you have to go on to condemn these Tea Parties, so you gotta stick to your metaphorical guns, even if they're unloaded. Grow up, learn how to debate, formulate a non-fallacious argument, and then come and talk with the grownups. Okay? Good. Cute lil' thing.
You mean, "Silent Minority." If I recall, the Republicans lost almost every election in 2008, ths making them a minority at the polls. Republicans are also a minority in Congress too. What amazes me though, is why you were so silent when you were the Majority and were ruining this country (somebody caused these problems that the current administration (of 90 days?) is trying to fix.
the tea parties are a complete joke. the proof is when the National Heritage Foundation provides you with your "handmade" sign…
Most of us came down at lunchtime from our day jobs. So, whatever makes wr1 feel good.
Right Golani. The local coverage was pretty good. So the message got out there. (Please see the Six Meat Buffet link at the top of the comments section)
I brought my own. So I guess I wasn't in on that joke.
Hey David! Nobody gives a $hit!
I had no idea the left could be so nasty, yet provide nothing to backup their rhetoric. Bush spent too much. Agreed. Many conservatives were as unhappy as the liberals.
On the other hand, look at just *how much* he spent in 8 years compared to what our current administration has committed us to in just 3 months.
I admit I am a conservative. I didn't start that way – I was around in the early '70s and remember attending a lot of peace rallys then. What started to turn me off was a lot of the rhetoric going around then about changing things (revoluton, etc) but no clear suggestions on what would replace the current system.
During our President's campaign, I heard rhetoric very similar. "Change we can believe in." and other platitudes. I really never heard much (and still haven't) about exactly what the change was to be or how it was to be implemented. To this day, we mostly hear broad sweeping speeches loaded with buzz words, and precious few details.
Regardless….The TEA party I attended was not "Anti-Obama" as many of you suggest, not racist, not backed by the Republican Party. All Americans were welcome if they felt that our government was behaving in a manner they did not approve of. Most of the criticism was directly addressed to congress, as they are the ones who draft the bills. If a bill is not presented to the President, he has no power otherwise to pass laws or spend money.
I want more of my Freedom back.
What is freedom?
Think of it this way. When you were a teenager, you more than likely could not wait to leave home and make your way in the world. Why? You wanted away from the restrictions placed on you by your parents (for your own good of course). You wanted to make your own decisions and pursue your own dreams and goals.
Now that you are on your own, the government is attempting to take the place of your parents. They continually pass new laws and policies (for your own good, of course). Each change implemented by the government represent some portion (however small) of your freedom which is being lost.
As I remember the first stimulus before the election was voted on by a house and senate that had a majority of democrats. The few republicans that they managed to swing over to prevent a filibuster allowed it to pass with President Bush. Amazingly after the outrage over the vague terms and dollar amounts that who knows went where on Wall Street, it is now blamed on the republicans.
Here is an abstract thought, maybe, all of the Tea Partiers are angry with the republican congressmen/women also?
[...] at Big Hollywood, Doug TenNapel shares why he took his family out for a protest, Greg Gutfield gives the 411 on the little liberal [...]
And now I will explain to you why going to a Tea Party is NOT so fun and uplifting as you'd wished it to be. Sure it was there in the crowd and I walked away "uplifted and proud to be an American"…
To find that my car was STOLEN.
I was already unemployed and yet wanted to be a part of this movement, I barely have less then fifteen hundred dollars to my name and still tried to show up and…
Now, I just don't feel that fervor and pride. Perhaps it really wasn't there to begin with and I was lying to myself all this time. Damn my stupidity for all of this crap and I unfortunately will damn anything that deals with this crisis now. Honestly, I hope now that this country descends into a depression so deep that we all will become a third world country with the nukes and disappear into oblivion on a small notation in some historians' notepad.
Damn my hope
DAMN my dreams
damn america

Exactimundo. I'd give you a + but I'm not using that system, so have an honorary +.And Liberals, if that somehow means something in deviant sex speak, please don't tell me.
You hit the nail on the head with this article!
Sure the Right has its crazies. But being curious about why someone is trying to hide a birth certificate (I don't know why he's doing it, perhaps it shows Mom wasn't married to Dad), or saying obvious facts about how our nation was founded on Christian principles doesn't make one crazy. But I think there are less crazies on the Right than the Left. For one reason "There are no enemies to the Left". The Right is better at social hygiene. The Rep Party got together with the Dems to vote in a D crook in preference to the R racist Duke. Perhaps you could show me a case where Dems got together with Reps to vote in a Rep so that some D scumbag doesn't get elected. The Reps chased Duke out. I haven't seen Al Sharpton get chased out of the Dems.
Just as I thought, no solutions, just a big mouth. You are what is wrong in the Republican party.
Regarding the birth-certificate… IF his people are actively trying to "hide" it, I imagine the most likely reason would be that since his father was a Muslim it may SAY "Muslim" on said certificate regardless of what his mother/grandparents did as far as raising him later. This would, of course, be entirely inconsequential (being "born listed-as" a religion doesn't mean a damn thing if you don't practice it) but would none the less create a media firestorm.
Regarding "founded on Christian principles"… Firstly, aren't you supposed to stick the faux-big-tent fig-leaf of "Judeo" in front of that? Might wanna check yer playbook, jus sayin'. In any case, there's an OCEAN of difference between " founded on Christian/Judeo-Christian principles" and "A Christian Nation." We are NOT a Christian nation, because Christianity and the government are seperate entities.
All of this pretend indignation about the "Teabagging" jokes are so transparent. Seriously.
If there is one thing I'm MORE convinced of than the fact that Obama is NOT the Manchurian Candidate… its this: IF there was an organized labor union walk-out over at the fudge packing plant, you can bet there'd be plenty of people here making fun of that. Come on, just admit it!

Repetitive Trolls are a complete joke. The proof is when they keep pasting the same thing over and over.
CD improperly truncated "Dissonance" in it's nickname.
The Republican & Democrats in Congress have been pissing me off for decades!!!! I actually called and wrote my congress peeps during the Bush admin (whenever he proposed something I disagreed with) imagine that. I am going to do the same with this one. Regardless of whom takes offense. You are also pretty high on your majority bit, here some numbers for you. 129,438,754 people voted (that figure comes from CNN – hehe) out of 306,234,498 people in the US (this comes from the US Census Bureau – hehe). That means less than half of the population actually voted & out of that the Big "O" took 53% of the vote (CNN). That would mean you seem to think a quarter of the population equals a majority. Unfortunately (for you) I do believe the "Silent Majority" has awakened, We are Americans first (bedamned the contrived voting blocks).
Beutiful event…..it was cold and raining. Around 3,000 people showed up, it was a nice mix of dem, mod, rep, & other. People of all walks of life, every creed & color (for those that care). I loved the fact that traffic heading into the city at 5:00 was heavier than that leaving. Everyone was very pleasant, at least when speaking and dealing with each other, when speaking on the Government…..obvious frustration and anger.
You're welcome.
According to your figures, the silent majority appears to be those who do not vote at all. However, as it relates to those who actually voted, President Obama did receive a majority (53% according to your post) of those voters.
We all should be Americans first ans support our current President, regardless of party. We all had to endure the last Republican President for 8 years, but nobody hoped that he would fail. Presidential failure would mean failure for the country as a whole, and what kind of American would want that?
"According to your figures", Read again, I cited my sources. "(T)he silent majority appears to be those who do not vote at all", yes, thats why they are called the "silent majority", where do you think the term came from. I also never wrote a single word about our president and failure. Where exactly did you read that in my post? We do eschew on the president though, I believe that "No" man or womyn makes or breaks America. If he "fails", HE fails. Be American first, vote every last Dem/Rep out of "Congress" & send them both (parties) that message. You see, just as before, I am attacking Congress not the current admin. I am tired of the constant demonization that comes from both sides. Demonization is a crutch that people on both sides of the aisle use when they do not want to have open & honest debate. Congress = Coward!!!
Funniest thing is, that under the last Presidents Admin, you would have been supporting my complaints while the others layed into me. But now its your boy and you take offense at me saying something about Congress, go figure. No President has ever been or will be perfect (except maybe George Washington, he did not want it & tried his best to be quiet and out of the way) & I have every right (currently) to disagree with whoever I want within our government, it is after all supposed to be "A government of the people, by the people, & for the people". (You will notice how Dem/Rep appear no where in that sentence).
I guess you don't like comments that disagree with you too strongly huh
Alright, let's try again.
First off, I find it disturbing that you're meant to be an "individualist" yet you have such a low tolerance for "freaks". Maybe if you knew some freaks instead of writing them off, you'd get somewhere in your arguments.
>. Because the issue isn’t about complaining that an untraditional group can’t get married.
"Untraditional group", oh wow. Yeah, because social definitions never change and traditions rule everything. How would you like if we inhereted the ancient greek rule of man/boy relationships? Fundies seem to think "Traditional" starts with christianity.
But yeah, if you're against "freaks" and you're against homosexuals it's pretty hard to call you individualist. Rather I'd say you're focusing on a smaller subset of things you believe make you an individual and are probably scared of having little or none. Nearly all your blog posts read 100% generic to what I've seen on various political messageboards. If it weren't for your art and writing(which is becoming increasingly dire, honestly) I'd be hard pushed to find anything that seperates you.
Whereas with these "freaks", it's easy to label them all as the same especially if they identify as part of a subculture. But you'll find a wider overall set of interests. I know people who are into all kinds of crazy things from folk-punk to vintage synthesisers to avante garde drama, often in the same person. Usually republican/con types pick one or two fairly mainstream "quirks" they cling to. This is a popular foreign view of america, predictably eccentric.
You are not an individualist. At some point you probably were before the Fundie virus took over completely, and what you're experiencing now is a throwback.
Having lower taxes will not make you more of an individual. Some of the most individual people I've met have been from Sweden, which to you would be socialist hell.
My second problem is how selective you are with these things… there are just as many nuts with Obama demonising posters, etc. and he's only just in office! Also, the level of aggressiveness doesn't prove an argument, but it doesn't disprove it either. If a particular group of people are riled up, it's probably because someone riled them up. You just can't use that as a valid metric.
