I still don't get, Doug, why you think it's okay to tear into Pagans in general and make them out to be cissies and environmental terrorists, whereas when anyone criticises Christianity you go on the serious defensive.

I think you'll find that most people on "my" side of things with this, as in most progressives in general do not make these kind of remarks about Christianity in general - just fundamentalist Christianity. Nobody's saying you have to teach evolution or global warming in the church, so please stop trying to push religion into science, especially if you're going to insult other religions while doing so. This is not the same as tearing into Christians the same way you have done pagans and environmentalists.

At the end of the day the earth is something we know for sure exists and know for sure that pollution hurts in a way that comes back to hurt us. It potentially affects everyone of every faith or no faith, and at the end of the day while we can hurt the earth, it'll most likely survive and WE'LL be the ones to suffer. This "creator not the creation" crap has to stop. I doubt if your God did create the earth, he'd appreciate you pissing all over it in his name.

Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, . . . and this knowledge he holds to as being certain from reason and experience. Now, it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking non-sense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn. (Augustine 1982, 42-43)

Okay, what the hell, I remember making this post but it seems to have disappeared. Guess I clicked a wrong button.

This is what I mean when I say "arrogance". Saying "Sorry" and acting like it's a fact when you provide no evidence, is very arrogant.

<a href="http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2009-01/uoia-ssa011609.php" target="_blank">http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2009-01/uo...</a>

"They're the ones who study and publish on climate science. So I guess the take-home message is, the more you know about the field of climate science, the more you're likely to believe in global warming and humankind's contribution to it."

The fact is roughly 97% of Climate scientists, not idiots like you or me who rant at each other on some fundamentalist loonie's blog back the idea of human influence in global warming. These are people who actually make a living out of looking at this.

You specifically said this was not true, however it would be very hard to disprove these statistics. If you have some other serious gripes with global warming and it's human factor regardless of the vast majority then I suggest you bring it up with a climatologist, one of the 97% might be able to explain something to you. But you specifically said that there's only a "few grant-whores" backing the idea.

No big deal if you admit your mistake, but I don't see that coming. I've no idea now you're going to say Oh but they're GOVERNMENT FUNDED and there lies the bias. But, you still said a majority(and apparently government funding didn't matter then), and you were incorrect. If you could accept at least this we might get somewhere in this debate.

Of course I'm being nasty. You're reactionary people and you're not going to react pleasantly no matter what way I put it to you. That doesn't mean I'm not right. It's far too easy to put a smiley face on a crock of shit, otherwise.

This isn't my opinion either. There's such a thing as the style over substance fallacy. I never said "You will believe this or else". This is an example of the delusion that causes me to be so "nasty" to you to begin with. Consistantly I said close to the opposite. In fact, I outright welcomed you to try and prove your opinion by getting involved with the scientific community.

If you could actually debate this like an adult instead of constantly trying to take argument that applies to you and stick it haphazardly on your opponent, I would treat you with respect. The fact is that you're flat out delusional and reading something into my posts that isn't there in your inane attempt to pigeon hole me. I don't think you have to believe in GLOBAL WARMING OR ELSE. I just wish you'd treat scientists, and the earth(given pollution is bad, regardless of global warming) with a little more respect.

If he is criticising the movement, why does he constantly feel the need to bring up Pagans by name and blame them for the movement? This is no different from when people rant about something while blaming the jews for it in some insane manner.

"Simply not true", then you prove it. And you don't just pull up some random ass article that agrees with you. The majority of scientists, climate researchers who actually look at this problem, say it does. So "science" disagrees with you.

And yes, debate is allowed. There is constant debate. The problem is that most scientists do not feel comfortable debating people who are at the end of the day, anti-intellectual little shits. Just because YOU and YOUR view is not being taken seriously does not mean there is no debate. Nobody takes you seriously because you so frustratingly reactionary. And again this is very simply proven by your opposition to "green" issues being "Pushed" on you when it's something we should be doing anyway. Waste and pollution is bad, amazingly enough.

Religion is still heavily pushed on people, but you don't give a shit about that. Instead you just focus on where religion isn't, and wher environmentalism is and act like the world's collapsing.

Thank you for proving the exact point of the original post: When it comes to the idea of man-made global warming, it's basically, 'YOU WILL BELIEVE THIS OR ELSE!' Your swearing, nasty tone and preaching is exactly what he was talking about in this post. There is not even room for discussion, only nastiness.

Whether it's Pagans or whoever else promoting it, the idea that global warming is man-made is simply not true. Or at the very least, highly debatable. But no debate seems to be allowed. It's taken for granted that it's true, and we are constantly being preached at to change our lightbulbs, change our cars, buy "green" this or that. On and on it goes, every day. If you cannot see that, I'm not sure what I could do to convince you.

In other words, he is criticizing the movement itself. And that most certainly deserves to be criticized.

Yes, he is tearing down Pagans. He "yammers" on about Pagans in the blog entry here, "blaming" them for environmentalism. He wants his religious beliefs to be taken seriously but pisses over those of others.

WHY are you so sick of it? Most of the measures taken against global warming are things we should be doing anyway, and are common sense. You can't pump tons and tons of waste into the atmosphere and have it take no effect. At the very least, pollution is a bad thing, and wasting energy is a bad thing. The fact that people like you and Doug sneer at environmentalists saying how you're going to be purposeful wasteful shows your position is entirely reactionary - that's a stupid fucking thing to do, regardless of global warming.

Also, if you're so determined it's "Not fact", why don't you prove it with science? Why do you try to bump heads with scientists? Why not just become more active with science in general, because surely if you're right eventually that's the undisputed result that they will arrive at?

It's a minority of scientists that are claiming global warming doesn't exist. You're the one pushing a crazy conspiracy theory and some of us are getting sick of it. Nobody is outright intolerant of the idea that global warming is not man made. It's just that thus there's been far more evidence for than against. Obviously, you think otherwise, but you're not even considering the possibility your ridiculous conspiracy theory is false which is the root of the problem.

What's this then, exactly?

"The worship and love of materials is our nation’s religion. I’d say it was a new religion, but it’s actually the oldest religion in the world, Paganism. Judeo-Christian values came from a pagan world with a radical new concept: the Creator, not the creation, should not be worshiped."

Doug is ranting against Pagans and blaming them for what you percieve as global warming being shoved down your throat. He bitches and moans how people don't take his fundamentlist christian views seriously then levels attacks at paganism in general, as opposed to the lefties he hates so much who target fundamentalism rather than all christians.
