The Feel Good Post-Holocaust Dr. Mengele-Twins-Experiment Jewish Exorcism Thriller Movie of the Year
by Debbie SchlusselWow, I never thought I’d be writing about the Feel-Good Nazi-Twins-Experiments Jewish Exorcism Movie of the Year. But that’s the basics on the absurd movie, “The Unborn,” out today. It’s possibly the most absurd and laughable horror movie of the decade. Not sure what’s up with Hollywood, but this must be the Demented Take on the Holocaust year for movies. It’s not just “The Reader,” in which we’re supposed to be sympathetic to a Nazi SS Guard because she had hot sex scenes with a 15-year-old and liked to be read high-brow books. It’s this one.
Oh, and then, there’s “Rabbi” Gary Oldman (dude! nice knitted yarmulke)–hilariously reading transliterated Hebrew–in this one. (And, of course, for the Jewish exorcism, you need an Episcopal Priest in tow.) As my friend, reasonable liberal movie critic Corey Hall of Detroit’s “Metro Times” joked, “With all the Jews in Hollywood, they need to cast Gary Oldman as the rabbi?” More like, with all the good scripts in Hollywood, they need to make this exercise in laughing gas?
Example of a great thriller invoking the image and deeds of Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele: “The Boys From Brazil.” Example of a bad one: This movie. Gives new meaning to the phrase, “Never Again.”
Read my full review of this and the other new releases at the box office this weekend, and guys, make sure to skip “Bride Wars” at all cost. You’ll thank me. . . or dread that you didn’t listen. Makes “Sex and the City” and “Mamma Mia” look like exciting male action hero films.

Welll…..the poster is nice.
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
They could have cast Mel Gibson as the Rabbi, and slay the demon with overwhelming irony.
And about that poster, is there supposed to be something scary about it? I just didn’t see any ghosts or anything….
I think the casting of Gary Oldman in this can be due to the fact that he has worked with David S. Goyer previously (Goyer co-wrote the last two Batman movies).
But yeah, he does seem like an odd choice for the role of a rabbi. He’s such an edgy guy that when I watch the trailer, I keep expecting him to freak out and punch the heroine in the face or something.
the more horrible you make it sound, the more i want to see it.
I’m sorry, but that is one smoking hot poster.
These days a horror film ain’t a horror film unless it has a super skinny girl in her underwear.
Furious, I was wondering the same thing about that poster. It might as well be titled: “The Unborn (Hey, check out the ass on this one!!)”
Gee, I wonder what market their targeting.
I’m happy to hear that Gary Coleman has made a comeback. Felt so sad for him since I read he became a security guard then later as a pitchman for a gold company.
Way to Go GARY!!! Can’t wait to see it!!!
I would hit that like the hammer of Thor. Love it when you can see all the way through.
Judging from the movie poster, the director is a pedophile.
How long before our congress members are pressured by AIPAC,JDL and the ADL to mandate that Americans be forced to see a new “holocaust” movie every week?
This is getting ridiculous.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for Steven “Spielberg” to make a movie about the biggest holocaust, the one that took place in the Soviet Union that actually resulted in millions of dead…Christains?
Maybe it has something to do with who the architects of the “Russian” revolution were and of those that carried out the purges and other horrors of that era.
Never mind, grab the remote because “American Idol” is coming on soon.
I can’t figure out why the ”unborn” twin looks like he’s 8 or 9 years old in the trailers…? That doesn’t make any sense.

Way to go, Kit!
David Crandell,
I heard they tried that title with test audiences, and it just didn’t make the cut. It may have been that the test audience was made up wholy by women, but the jury is still out. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I like it when they make movies like this that are important for the times. Most people seem to think that the unpleasantness with the Nazis was only an issue, say 60 or so yrs ago, but we all know that they are still a important part of current events, as we speak. People have a right to know what Hitler is doing, darn it! I appreciate Hollywood going out on a limb like this to show the real dirt on this mystery man and his loyal followers.
Scotty, tell me you didn’t intend to not mention Gary’s run for Governor of Calif?
It should be titled “Unspanked” and I intend to remedy that situation.
The only thing about this film that in any way interests me is that the female lead was the voice of Amata in Fallout 3.

Kit, Odette Yustmann is half Cuban & half Colombian–Latin chicks ALWAYS have ‘meat on their bones’—no skinny minnies for them, no sir!

Gary Oldman is a bad ass. He probably makes the movie cool, even if it sucks.
