A World of Choices: If Hollywood Won’t Deliver, I Can Now Go Elsewhere
by Dana CommandatoreI’m a mom with a full-time job and two dogs, so spending $75 on a babysitter and a couple of movie tickets so I can take a nap in a dark theater is not my idea of a good time. Television isn’t much better. I anxiously awaited HBO’s The Pacific only to be given a selective recollection of World War II as seen through a post-9/11 prism. Then there was AMC’s The Walking Dead. It really had me up until the final episode’s waning moments when a member of the CDC explained that, when it came to the Zombie Apocalypse, the French scientists were the picture of courage while the Americans cried like babies. Yeah, right. The reanimated dead are walking the earth? Okay, fine. But the world’s foremost country in waving the white flag is now the paragon of bravery? That’s a bridge too far.

Since 2010 only got me out to the movies twice (that I can remember) to see The Town and The Social Network, the internet became one of my main forms of entertainment. That was where I found Drinking with Bob. Sure, he looks a little angry, but so am I. However, thanks to Bob, I don’t need to get my blood pressure to the boiling point; he’s here to do it for me. I was starving for an alternative viewpoint. Sick and tired of being distracted by liberal celebrities and their need for attention, I needed some meaning. And strangely enough, Bob delivered.
Somewhere in between Facebook, Sean Hannity, and the occasional Tivo’d Red Eye, I found Bob’s rants. His website and YouTube channel represent the reason the internet has become an alternative venue for entertainment for so many. It doesn’t have any sponsors or politically correct audience to temper its intent or its delivery. Sure there is a lot of crap, but when you come across a gem like Drinking with Bob, it makes it all worthwhile. Each installment starts off with: “What’s next? I’ll tell you what’s next…” and then blasts off into a tirade over anything from the NFL cancelling a game due to snow to why he thinks Ben Affleck is a hypocritical d-bag. He covers it all and no one is safe, especially President Obama and his nonsensical policies. You know the ones that make you want to punch your own head, like spending millions on a census commercial during the Super Bowl?
I don’t know Bob’s last name and I don’t care. He thinks like I do, shares the same insights as I have, and even gets as angry as I do. But the difference is that Bob can rant with the best of ‘em. He crams more rational thought into a two-minute video than you ever thought possible. His tirades reach such a fever pitch that it leaves you wondering if he’s going to have an aneurysm right before your eyes. When I hear something in the news that annoys me, I wonder if Bob is feeling it too. I imagine that, somewhere in New York City, he is forming the perfect response with the right dose of humor, anger, and common sense.
—–
I contacted Bob and he was more than happy to answer some of my questions. He began making videos in 2004 about celebrities and bad drivers. It wasn’t until the last Presidential campaign that Bob got political. Motivated by anger, Bob was tired of people being “silenced by the politically correct shackles of the mainstream media” and decided to do something about it. He considers himself “an independent fighting for the ideology of common sense.” Check out his classic rants for an introduction. Warning: Once you start, you’ll be hooked. Oh, and they are not for the kids — strictly adult entertainment.
Bob is a New Yorker. This means he has no problem telling you how he really feels. Whether it’s disgust in the prolonged feigned interest in the Chilean miners or sending relief money we don’t have to Haiti. It’s a swift kick of reality right where it counts.
You’ll be relieved to know that Bob tries to take care of himself so he doesn’t have a heart attack. He sounds like a good guy to me. The type of guy that appreciates what he has and is grateful for being born in the greatest country in the world. He respects the military and seems to know what is important and what’s frivolous. I thank goodness there are people like Bob out there daring to make sense of so much senseless behavior.
Hollywood and the mainstream media will be a thing of the past if they don’t wake up and see what the majority of this country wants. The entertainment industry has a monopoly on our film, television, and news that is forcing people to go elsewhere. I wanted to be entertained but there was no outlet worthy of my hard-earned cash. Instead, the web caught my attention. It offered the diversity, values, and sense of humor that reflect my ideology. If Hollywood won’t do or say it, someone else can with nothing more than a webcam. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

I'll check Bob out.
Meanwhile, I've been spending zip on Hollywood. I dropped $6.50 on a special for the Macintosh port of Left 4 Dead 2 (I gave up on Walking Dead during the second episode, so you were braver than I, Dana). I've played it over 1,000 hours. Even at the normal rate of $19.95, I'd be glad to have paid the money. When was the last time Hollywood gave you 1,000 hours of entertainment for a couple of bills?
If Bob isn't a Tea Party member, someone should reach out to him. He'd make an excellent speaker…
I paid for nothing from Hollywood this year except for Kick Ass. You're right, the Internet is the place to be. And you're right about Bob. He's getting a bookmark.
True Grit was the only movie I found to be worth the money to see it.
The rest of the Liberal Hollywood assbaskets can have a free prostate exam by banana hands Tony Robbins………………
Thanks for bringing Bob to my attention and for posting a link to his blog. I've bookmarked it. If I ever do get a chance to drink with Bob I'll buy the first round. The man is excellent.
Bloomberg would tax the crap out of this guy if he was found to be a a raving conservative.
Tho he reminds me of NYC Congressman Weiner, who responds to questions from the
media, he doesn't like, in the same fashion
I watch nothing from Hollywood unless it's been cleared by BH or I've seen it already. Hollywood has lured me in for the last time. Westerns are populated by crybabies who grapple for two hours with the immorality of shooting bad guys, and then the bad guys do it, too! The History Channel, Learning Channel etc. all bear close scrutiny and I give them a quick hook as soon as a get a whiff of post-modern worldviews read back into the past. This stuff in Hollywood goes back to at least the 1970's when Tom and Jerry were now portrayed as best buds and when Hansel and Gretel sat down to a nice home-cooked meal served up by a misunderstood witch. I watch Turner Classic movies as much as anything (except for any intros by Ben Mankiewicz). I may miss something by doing so by relying on my kindred spirits at Breitbart but I'm happy with the risk. No more fraternizing with the enemy. One thing I will do: I will give anything with Robert Duvall a chance. I still laugh when the bad guy he shot in "Open Range" says to him, "You're nothin'." Duvall's answer: "Maybe so, but I'll still be breathin' in another minute."
Inbetween Toy Story 3, Tangled (I have small daughters), Waiting for Superman, Kickass, Scott Pilgrim and Inception, I don't have any complaints about 2010's movie offerings (on the tv side all that springs to mind is Justified).
While the guy is no Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh (some may say that's a good thing), he still makes a heck of a lot more sense than Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz, and Chris Matthews put together (Ben Affleck and his "Hollywood-ugly" wife – hee, hee – that's a keeper).
A friend of mine posts Drinking with Bob on Facebook – I love this guy.
Neither funny or entertaining. I found the Left Behind series to be funnier and more entertaining..
I have finally left Hollywood (bar the reliably stellar out-put of Pixar) for the greener, curry-soaked fields of Bollywood. I dance around a lot more now and know that 'Pyar' means love.
This just in……….the French army has just surrendered to your column, Dana!
Bob rocks!! This guy makes so much more sense than any of the political hacks out there!
Great videos. I especially enjoyed the Ben Afflack one.
Drinking With Bob is quite possibly the greatest rant vlog…EVER. Raise your glass and drink one with Bob in 2011!
Agreed.
The best thing to come out of Hollywood in recent memory is Big Hollywood!
Kudos for bringing attention to Drinking with Bob, the guy is awesome and always makes me cheer out loud with his videos.
If you ask me, the beauty of the tea party is that there is no tea party. Its not an organization. It's a state of mind.
If someone wants to join the tea party, all they need do is get mad as hell at the ruling elites in government, and then you're a member of the tea party.
I meant as far as getting him on stage to speak. I'm sure a lot of what he has to say is in sync with most tea party folks.
I have been going elsewhere for years now. With independent films by unknown filmmakers. Revival theaters Like the New Beverly Cinema and the Old Town Music Hall here in LA. An unprecedented amount of old movies available on DVD. and the internet I wont even give Hollywood a chance to insult me. Sorry Affleck, Penn, Damon and DiCaprio. I don't need you.
Sounds to me like he already is on stage speaking. And his stage is the internet.
except there are no black zombies! notice that!? only white… weird.
And now, I am too!
In all fairness, the french soldiers, etc. are actually quite brave and competent, from everything I've heard from my infantry buddies in several services. It's their leadership that tends to throw up the white flags.
Wouldn't be surprised if their CDC guys also weren't the stereotypical surrender-monkeys.
That said, "Walking Dead" had several issues with it, namely the utter cluelessness on the part of the survivors. If people with THAT little tactical sense survived, why do we have a zombie problem?
World War Z had some excellent material on how to do it right.
Ha, ha! I love Bob. I would be walking around the house ranting just like Bob, but my wife won't let me. Listening to a Bob rant is a good substitute.
He's funny, but it won't substitute for a movie anytime soon. A little goes a looong way. Thanks for the intro to him, but I never went much for screamin' comics. He could be the next Tosh.0 if he plays his cards right, tho.
I surely will…I will tip a Crown Royal reserve with the man!
Was greatly looking foward to "The Pacific". Turned it off in the first 20 minutes. The way foul language was used was not only vile, but not true to the time.
Wow. What a coincidence. I read your blog and found the back of my "Honey Nut Cheerios" box to be funnier and more entertaining. Weird.
Thank goodness for the internet. It came just in time, before the leftists took over the MSM and Hollywood, and gives us a grass-roots voice in the Pathetic Socialist Agenda.
Hooray for Bob and all those yet-unknown Bobs who are keeping it real!!!
Exactly Jed58. The moonbats running Hollyweird today believe everyone in America has a potty mouth. I've met many WWII vets & have yet to meet one who uses profanity the way the cretins in Hollyweird do. I'll stick with movies by John Wayne & Steve McQueen to name two. Both were vocally against profanity, gratuitous violence & gratuitous graphically sexual scenes in their movies.
You read Dick Handler's blog? Seriously??
Did you take a Silkwood shower after?
I've been following Bob from the beginning. Glad you found him, he's a breath of fresh air.
This folks… *this* is classic, naive, unintentional irony. Just enjoy it for what it is.
Drinking with Bob has been a guilty viewing pleasure of mine for a couple of years. Thanks for giving him additional exposure.
I would abrade my hide until I looked like one of those guys from "BODIES"…
richardporter…what a putz…
And he thinks we should care…the only thing entertaining about him coming over here and ejaculating….
Zombieland…
"Thank God for rednecks…"
Best. Line. Ever.
I'm glad I'm not the only fan of this guy. His vids have been cracking me up for over a year.
Hey there's this cool thing called the internet, with crazy people making all their OWN stuff! Now I need to let the OTHER suburban soccer-moms know!
Next time: "What is a Blog??"
Yeah. The soldiers in a lot of leftist euro-tard countries tend to be great. And when you find a real conservative in one of these far left nutjob euro countries, watch out. They tend to be ultra-conservative.

^One of my favorite right-wingers in 3rd world Urop.
I like stories so I won't be avoiding movies or tv any time soon. I enjoy both and don't mind spending time finding what I like. Much the same when I go to a bookstore and wade through a lot of crap to find a book I want to read. I haven't given up reading because there are a lot of crappy books out there.
Some did, not all and few in the company of ladies…….But that aside, if it were you who were the veteran of that time and wanted your great grandkids to watch it with you, is that what you would want them to hear?
Anyway, try and watch the series, then you can decide
Absolutely. Difference was, you didn't hear that kind of language in movies *depicting* American GIs. Or any other movies, for that matter. It gives people the false impression that soldiers were much less vulgar back in the Day. I don't think that's the case.
I agree. I won't be avoiding movies – I just won't be seeing many of them in movie theaters.
Me too, before I spend my money at the theaters I want to KNOW that there are no sucker punches. I'll keep watching my DVDs of both movies and TV shows I know I like. And of course read more books.
And watch a Bob rant fromt ime to time.
Almost thirty bucks to see Tron: Legacy the other night.
Some movies need to be seen in a theater: big sci-fi, fantasy, or superhero epics, certain westerns, certain war movies. Maybe even musicals and sports films. They deserve big screens, big sound, and the sense of escape you can only get in the theater. But I think that only a tiny subset of those – the very best – are worth the price anymore.
Political thrillers, comedies, chick flicks? Why go through the trouble and expense required to see them on the big screen?
I'm undecided about Tron. Visually and aurally, it was worth $28.00. Give it a couple of points for nostalgia and some hot chicks. In other respects, I'm not so sure.
Bob has been on my favorites list for ages. He always zeros in on what most Americans are really thinking in rants that either make me smile largely or laugh out loud. I love Bob!
And there are like, really snarky liberal brats that like to act like they're super funny and intellectual, like they're smarter than you! They'll use sarcasm to show you their high-brow sense of wit and pizazz. You may not spend all your time on the Interwebs to troll websites, stalk preteens on YouTube, and check on Lady Gaga's latest costume idea, but they'll sure school you for not being as "in the know" as them!
Next: "The Adolescent Brain of a Do-Nothing Leftist: How to Run Entirely on Sarcasm and Act Like You Contribute"
If you're referring to the game Left 4 Dead, their are indeed black zombies (or "Zombies of an African American Heritage") which caused some to call the game, you guessed it, "racist." My article here:
http://freedomfightermedia.com/ffm_wir_25oct10.ht...
I recall there being lots of "Black Zombies" in LFD 2 since that one is set in New Orleans.
Just know that I grew up (born in 58) with some of the roughest men you would ever want to meet, WWII vets, and none of them cursed as such and even pointed it out to those whom did. This series and many movies wants to say that all people talked like that to anyone
Anyway, look at "Band of Brothers", was no reason it could not have been done the same.
I very much get the angry take on comedy, but in order for it to work you have to be clever enough to not seem like a spastic twat. While commendable in effort, Bob lacks the creative wit that transcends internet ranting and turns things into a quirky argument. An example of this would be say Yahtzee Croshaw through Zero Punctuation, in that while some of his points are raving mad at the very least there's enough inventive pieces of comedy that he doesn't bother you when he spouts something overly hypercritical. Argue what you will over subject matter between Yahtzee and Bob, but at the very least I can argue the superior quality of the former over the latter. But then again I suppose that all breaks down to taste, so I suppose arguing the quality of it all is an exercise in futility.
But wrapping things up, seriously Dana only two movies caught your fancy? Well I can't argue you should have seen more, but at the very least I can argue you missed out on a number of great movies.
This guys vids are funny but a replacement for movies? Cmon.
Shouldn't this blog just be titled "I Liked These Youtube Videos"? That's the non-snarky version… but no… she catching the *wave of the future!!* Sorry poking fun at that causes a full-on meltdown, complete with tons of insults, even accusing me of "stalking preteens." LOL. I'm the one trying to prove something?
You're really busting apart the conservative clichés aren't ya? Well, you haven't accused me of being in my mom's basement or collecting welfare, YET.
But you can write a sentence, which is different … so ya gotta respect that. Only question is why someone as smart as you is reading this "content." Your comment is far more interesting than anything I've read here recently. Oh, and I *hate* you for your politics or something… that's how it's done? Lemme know how I'm doing LOL.
I.LOVE.BOB.
He screams so I don't have to.
You guys are late to the Bob party.
Everyone should go to Bob's classic rants section first.
The selected rants on this thread are not even close to his best.
Some things, once read, cannot be un-read…unseen….brain bleach, for the love of God, guns and we giaours ; )
I see shades of old Dennis Leary in these vlogs….wonderful LOL
Far Rockaway.
I still like "Nut up or shut up." I use that all the time with the Progs.
"Neither funny or entertaining."
I noticed you didn't say it wasn't accurate.
Right-on Bob.
The hubris and hypocrisy of these Hollywood jack-wagons is mind numbing.
Thank you Dana!
Hence, this from the article: "Check out his classic rants for an introduction."
Now, that was funny!
The only problem with that, lk, is most proggies have none, and don't understand the statement…and no matter the subject, ALWAYS express their "expertise"…
It amazes me how many there are considering their love of gayness, abortion, risky behaviors, etc…
*snicker*
I use ice picks, myself…
It just amuses me how often he thinks people on the Bigs care about what he says…despite every commentary to the contrary…yet, here he comes…
Oops…was that out loud…?
See what I mean…?
ZING….!!!
MrGJG for the EPIC WIN…!!!
I bow down to a master…
Just caught some of the classics. Great stuff!
New Yorkers really tell it like it is.
Now how do we turn them from blue to red?
Brillo pads too sissified for ya, huh?
Just like Monty Python, if we get started on tormenting ideas, we'll never stop <she said with a cheeky grin>
Out of curiosity how does Bob escape the same criticism of having a hubris?
Listen here you independent thinker, what you're saying goes against the constructed narrative that I've built in my own head that tells me what's objectionably correct and for that I find your argument and by extension your own being to be inferior to my own by that very nature.
You see what we approve of around these parts is unconditional approval of the editorials and articles. Anything related to the idea of criticism is obviously the rantings of socially maladjusted freaks with self diagnosed Asperger's syndrome. And quite frankly damn you for misinterpreting your own opinion.
Now I'll have to ask you to bugger off before the collective hive mind of the site descends upon your digital name with our arbitrary numerical ratings. I say to you sir, good day.
Yes, but beware.. as the most insidious and sinister evil people, in the political power halls of Washington DC, ie' the Liberals, have had, and still have all the power, and will, I repeat WILL, subvert, destroy, and take away your Rights and Freedoms, in your ability to make these choices, as they know that controlling the information and communication of that information, is vital to keeping the people, in their liberal indoctrinated realm of thought.. No independent and non-liberal, aka, Conservative thoughts and opinions, allowed.. this is all about Liberal Politics, and the Corruption that goes with it.. It is Evil and Sinister, plain and simple.. be aware and careful..!!
You sir, sound like a writer for Keith Olbermann. Since Keith has such high standards, I assume, sir, he required that you be diagnosed with Asperger's by a licensed profressional. Carry on, sir, and return to your mutual admiration society. You wouldn't want to miss the circle jerk hour, now would you? Sir.
You know you are breaking them down when you get lots of negative ratings but no comments. And your irony was completely lost on the other commenter below. Shhh… I will go tend to my AS. GOOD DAY.
This sort of thing is best left to the professionals.
I started my protest against the MSM newspapers years ago. Silently, I simply withdraw my consent to their PC agenda based reporting. I discovered the internet and the world of like minded people. I waited patiently waiting for the elites lap dogs to collapse. you know what, hasn't happened. They carried BHO's water buckets like the second coming. And in hushed voices, behind the scenes, talks and schemes of government intervention, "for the public good"
Hollywood, quick to condemn those horrid rich for not paying their fair share, were first in line for government handouts. How many tax breaks do they get? America will be a flaming wreck and they will still be pushing the progressive line. Why? Because they are the elites, above petty concerns like delivering what the customer wants, because, well, their customers are too inept to know what's good for them.
I want to know when some brave entrepreneur is going to start a web based production company and end run the whole lot of them? I just connected my new flat screen to the router. I'm just waiting for the content.
That was one good rant on Ben Affleck.
J-Lo kicked Affleck out. Alec Baldwin was kicked to the curb by Kim Basinger. They knew these guys the best and they couldn't stand them. Why should we think any different?
Here, here! I just found found Bob through this post of Dana's and I sure appreciate it. I've never heard of Bob before, so I guess I'm late to the party. I LOVE BOB!
I agree. I'd never heard of him before Dana's post. THANKS, Dana!
Say something intelligent and people will respond…………..If you can't do "intelligent" try being funny
and If "Soccer Mom" is all you got, then may I suggest you go back to the 90's till you get some better material………….
I'll give the series a try, Jed. As for your other point —
"if it were you who were the veteran of that time and wanted your great grandkids to watch it with you, is that what you would want them to hear?"
Frankly, I'm not sure. I suppose I'd want to have my war experiences reproduced as accurately as possible to help a new generation of Americans understand what it was I went through, and if the drama was simply too intense for the great-grandchildren, well, they shouldn't be allowed to watch till they're a bit older, simple as that.
This, I think, is a much better alternative than having to sanitize and "child-proof" our culture.
On the other hand, I am told (and you and Dana have confirmed this) that THE PACIFIC is not exactly an accurate portrait of history. Rather, it is a slanted, scolding, "progressive" view of World War II and as such it sounds highly suspect — at least to me.
Thanks.
He left the opening, I jumped in.
Not seeing it.
Ol-Bob strikes me as a humble sort.
i have sent drinking with bob links into red eye, hannity, oreilly, greta, several times – i think it would be awesome if they played his videos – my son did a tribute video to him – check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOar7PipTyw
bob even commented on it!
I've become addicted to his videos. He is a master at rants.
