DENIED: Bigotry of the Obamatrons
by Charles WinecoffRecently, at the office (a place I sometimes affectionately refer to as Obama Central), I made the mistake of printing out a Washington Post editorial that questioned the foreign policy expertise of our new Commander-in-Chief. By the time I got to the printer to pick it up, someone else had already seen it - and stamped “DENIED” across the top of the page in red ink. Next to that was scrawled, “RIGHT WINGER GO HOME.”
The first thing that went through my mind was: cross burnings. The second was: children are evil (my workplace is overrun by hundreds of twentysomethings).
I tried to be rational. Whoever defaced the page had no way of knowing who had printed it out – just as I had no idea who the defacer was – so it wasn’t personal. Still, it was hurtful.
And it was bigoted. The defacer didn’t know anything about me – my political affilitation, my sex, my race, nothing. Die hard Democrats read mainstream editorials, don’t they? So much for the good will of Dave Matthews’s “American Prayer” starring Idi Amin and Perez Hilton - and Michael Moore’s patronizing, post-Election email exhorting his followers to be kind to their Republican friends (as if they have any).
I’ve been the object of hate before. As a teenager, holding my black boyfriend’s hand in Greenwich Village, a truck swerved to hit us while we waited to cross the street. To be honest, I prefer that kind of hate. It’s direct, out in the open, and in response to an action – in that case, our hand-holding – not in response to a thought. Had I committed a hate crime without realizing it?
As I headed back to my office, images of the Ku Klux Klan, going after people they didn’t know in the middle of the night, raced across my brain. Then I had to stop myself. And chuckle. There was no comparison.
But my gut kept telling me there was. Whoever stamped ”DENIED” across my document clearly felt justified in defacing it. Though petty, this was a hostile act – another tiny blow in the insidious war on free thought. And one thing I’ve noticed in the stifling PC smog of LA: the Obama generation doesn’t think twice about openly ridiculing folks who don’t follow in lockstep. They’re still acting like there’s a Texan in the White House. They can’t let go. They don’t want to. Because, like the believers of a certain 7th century ideology that’s made a big comeback in recent years, their objective is not, despite claims to the contrary, to coexist. To quote Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, it’s “to rule.”
Instead of gossiping at the water cooler, today’s privileged jugend hover in packs around TV monitors to mock the usual suspects - poor old Sarah Palin, the Tea Partiers, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Miss California (chivalry is deader than dead). Together, they telegraph their warning to anyone who might disagree: don’t.
They believe Loose Change is an important documentary, Al Franken a natural for the Senate, and Arlen Specter a hero. They judge people not for their principles or achievements, but by the letter that comes after their name. The one coworker I saw who dared walk the Yes We Can-festooned halls in a McCain T-shirt last fall got singled out by a supervisor (”Are you serious?”). The answer? Of course not - the tee had been donned as a joke.
Kids today. They enjoy complete freedom to open their pieholes at the slightest brainfart. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. That should be a benefit of freedom. Yet despite the apparent spontaneity of their farts, a strange uniformity pervades.
To their credit, Americans born after 1980 seem to be almost entirely free of old-time prejudices like homophobia – kudos to Will & Grace, I guess - though it’s hard to tell where genuine acceptance ends and “Vote No on Prop 8″ fanaticism begins. Where I work, no one voted “yes” - at least no one would say so - so we’ll never know if “DENIED” would have been stamped across a human forehead.
But too much of a good thing, even media-sanctioned tolerance, becomes oppressive. “You’re so negative” is an accusation I’ve heard many times since moving to Hollywood, usually in response to less than total elation about the release of the latest Spiderman sequel or the nasal squeals of the current American Idol. Whatever happened to critical thinking?
I used to think its absence here was an organic deficiency of the West coast. Back East, where the weather stinks, people spend more time indoors, are more likely to pick up a book and exercise their own imaginations. In the easy, optimistic climate of California, kids grow up tanning and surfing, and the sky is generally blue. Irony gets bleached out. Life is good. Why bring everyone down? Opinion – “DENIED.”
Sometimes I wish I had been born in Malibu.
But lately – okay, since the Election - I’ve begun to suspect that the rejection of critical thinking is more than a regional custom. Forget the swine flu, anti-thought is a viral pandemic - and it’s spreading fast. As Marge the Palmolive lady used to say, “You’re soaking in it!”
Twenty-somethings are fond of declaring, “It’s a free country!” But is it? Really? And what exactly does that notion mean to them, anyway? Because from what I can tell, they believe the First Amendment is a natural phenomenon which, unlike the climate, will never change. At the same time, these kids – who see nothing odd about surrounding themselves with creepy, halo’d icons of The One - mock folks who actually make the effort to exercise their right to free speech on talk radio, at Tea Parties, and at workplace printers.
Talk about a false sense of security. They think this double standard is perfectly normal.
As a young’un said to me not long ago, “But Republicans… aren’t they, like, evil?” When I was growing up, the only Republican I knew was my grandfather – and he used to describe himself simply as a “skeptic.” Party affiliation aside, I always thought skepticism was supposed to be a good thing.
Not anymore.
As the media distracts us with constant fear-mongering about hate speech, racism, and possible assassination attempts on our President – by rightwing nuts, of course – a virulent new strain of politically correct intolerance has risen swiftly and silently in our midst: an all-out intifada against the individual.
In 1950, journalist Edward Hunter coined the term “brainwashing” to explain how some American POWs were converted to Communism during the Korean War. Today, the practice is commonplace. In 2009, every time an American turns on a television, he faces non-stop identity assault from a rat-tat-tat of guilt-inducing messages and innuendo: America is bad; America is collapsing; America should become more European; America deserves to be put in its place; America must bow to the wise and humble global community (especially if it’s Third World).
I’ve talked with otherwise well-educated twenty- and thirty-somethings who seem unable (or unwilling) to distinguish between the cavalier anti-war ravings of Madonna in concert and the published propaganda of Hillary Clinton (Making History) and Barack Obama (The Audacity of Hope). While it’s reassuring to know that Gen Oers still know how to read, it’s chilling to observe how readily they accept the words attributed to their idols at face value.
For reading these books, they are validated by their peers, complimented for their good taste - and tacitly discouraged from turning a critical eye to even a single sentence. No surprise, then, that brainwashing is also known as “thought reform,” with social acceptance the dangling carrot. The thoughts in these books are “good.”
This is the exact opposite of how Gen Oers are taught to view literature by conservative thinkers like Mark Levin and Ann Coulter (who, BTW, actually write their own books). In these cases, the same kiddies are emboldened to ridicule, condemn and name call – no reading required. The thoughts in these books are “bad.”
Guilt also plays a major part in brainwashing. Everyone from gay activists and environmentalists to socialized medicine zealots use it to browbeat people into submission (like any of us need more that). If you resist their arguments, then you must: a) be suffering from internalized homophobia; b) own shares in Exxon, or c) secretly want minorities to die waiting to get into the ER.
Brainwashing can only work in an environment of isolation – and there’s no lonelier place for a conservative than New York, San Francisco or Hollywood. Hopefully, that’s changing as many of us are starting to speak out. Still, the Left controls the arsenal of psychological weapons (film, print and digital media) used to break people down.
The challenge for young people is that, unless they already know someone who at least identifies as a “classical liberal,” their malleable minds will be hard pressed to discover the joy of civil discourse or rational debate. They won’t be exposed to any.
In 1983, best-selling shrink M. Scott Peck published his second book, People of The Lie. In it, he tells the stories of several patients whom he came to believe could be clinically diagnosed as “evil” - a character disorder he describes as “militant ignorance.” According to Peck, an evil person prefers to psychologically destroy others rather than face his (or her) own faults, exhibits zero empathy towards his targeted scapegoat, and enjoys falsely labeling other people as evil.
You know, like spending eight years comparing people you disagree with to Hitler.
Self-deception, Peck states, is the number one risk factor for evil, easier to maintain in groups – like MoveOn.org, Al-Qaeda, Queers for Palestine, Rachel Maddow’s Facebook page - than individually. Ironically, Hollywood has long told us this sort of mass bias is wrong. Just watch Gregory Peck and Dorothy McGuire in Gentleman’s Agreement, Ginger Rogers and Ronald Reagan in Storm Warning, Tom Hanks in Philadelphia, Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thorton in Monster’s Ball, the entire Screen Actors Guild in Crash… the list goes on and on.
So when did groupthink suddenly become cool? When did words start meaning the opposite of what they were intended to mean? When did “progressive” come to mean ”do nothing,” and “conservative” mean “progressive” (i.e. “do something”)? When, as Andrew Klavan has so eloquently pointed out, did the belief system of the angels get reduced to the two-syllable mantra: “Shut up?”
When did dissent become a de facto hate crime?
In Don Siegel’s classic sci-fi flick, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), the citizens of Santa Mira, California, are gradually replaced in their sleep by emotionless impostors – the proverbial “pod people.” The film is often interpreted as an allegory for Communism and McCarthyism (a tactic first reviled, then hijacked, by the Left). But Body Snatchers is more relevant than ever – right here, right now.
You walk the halls, wander the streets, visit the homes of other two-legged beings who appear to resemble you on the surface, yet seem to have no clue you exist as a separate person, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. These seemingly intelligent beings talk about you, in front of you, as if you were in another room, automatically assuming you are of like mind. (Maybe they just never read Miss Manners.)
If you say something to correct them - or just ask a question about their leader – they blink, not comprehending. You repeat the question. They smile at you wanly. It does not compute. Welcome to Santa Mira, a.k.a. Hollywood, a shifty dreamscape, where nothing is exactly as it seems, where a marine layer rolls in every night, blanketing its sleeping citizens in a fine vapor of paranoia.
Does anyone know the way to San Jose?
Back in the harsh reality of daylight, the O generation carries on, oblivious to its own cruelty or mortality. As long as they have Dancing with the Stars and Tivo, all is well with the world. Are these overgrown, enlightened rejects from Village of the Damned the new ugly Americans? If so, they are primed to be thrown over, fatally, themselves. By whom? I think we all know – and it ain’t The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
At the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter have managed to escape pod-dom by staying awake for days on end. Exhausted, Wynter finally succumbs. When she awakens, changed, she gives McCarthy some icy advice: ”They were right… Stop acting like a fool, and accept us.” If she’d had a rubber stamp, she might have branded him – “DENIED!”
McCarthy flees, desperate for human help, lamenting in voiceover how “a moment’s sleep, and the girl I loved was an inhuman enemy bent on my destruction.” Watching the attractive people I see everyday, working out at the gym, driving their Smart Cars, grabbing a Starbucks, watching CNN, listening to their iPods – and talking about Hope – I know how he feels.
When did they all fall asleep? When are they going to wake up? Perhaps when they learn, the hard way, that freedom is not just another convenience.
Meanwhile, try not to express a dissenting or individual thought – and don’t gasp if one of them lashes out viciously at a friend who steps out of line - because that’ll clue them in that you’re still human.
And then they’ll come after you.

Mr. Winecoff, If you were to run for president, I WOULD VOTE FOR YOU. But what he hell, I am 76 years old what do i know?
Mr. Winecoff, your observations and commentary captured current events and attitudes so accurately and succinctly I’m agape with envy of your mastery of prose. Your grandfather would be proud of the skepticism he instilled in you. Should my own grandson be so gifted I’d be doubly blessed. You'd have my vote as well. Sincerely!
As a S.F. resident, I have worked with many nice people who suddenly became hateful at the mention of a Republican's name. I was totally unprepared for the mainstream media's abdication of its own lofty values of impartiality in order to get Barack Obama elected President. By now, I don't need to elaborate on those things – you get it. What's truly frightening to me NOW is the fact that for the first time in my life (and as far as I can tell, the first time in American history), satire targeting a POTUS is nearly non-existent. There wasn't a comedian that didn't kick Bush in the nuts, and even Bill Clinton's still a reliable dirty old man joke, but Obama? To paraphrase MC Hammer, "Can't touch him."
I remember in middle school having a teacher born in Russia tell us all about the danger of criticizing Stalin or Khrushchev in public, in jest or otherwise. We're not there yet, but as in many other respects, America is "progressing" in the direction of the USSR.
A great example of the dismissive nature of the modern "liberal". If it doesn' t fit the narrative, down the memory hole with. Even if you were a fellow traveller who was just reading what the opposition was saying, fuggetaboutit. Verboten thoughts. Not to be disseminated. Access Denied. All must fit the narrative. Thus, Harry Truman: War Criminal. I wonder if they can see themselves, at all.
From someone who's only 22 years old, I would definitely vote for you for President good Sir!
For someone who's finally going to be graduating from college at the end of next week, I can not wait to leave this Obamatron haven that is the University of Missouri. The constant use of F-You's and Go F Yourself just because someone dares to say that they were not going to vote for Obama. And when someone asked me who I was voting for I took the coward's way out and said I was voting for Obama, even though I SURE as heck did not fill in the box next to his name on my absentee ballot. All this because I did not want to be called a racist. I love having interesting debates with people on the other side of the aisle. But at the same time it seems like the majority of the Obamatrons don't want that and that's why I hate having discussions with them. Because if there just going to attack you then what's the point?
WINECOFF FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012!
Those of us who voted yes (or would, if we lived in CA) on Prop. 8 because we do not want the definition of marriage changed are not afraid of homosexuals. Nor do we hate them.
Aside from that, spot on article! It truly is an insane world we live in right now. And it's not just a problem for the younger generation! I know plenty of people 30 and up who are behaving this same way.
The left loves fascists, they're mostly dysfunctional people, and humorless to boot.
That they vote becomes their most important quality, after all they live in a world where they're not very valuable, having won the "Not Aborted" lottery.
They have owned the media for awhile, almost as long as they have owned academia. Their brainwashing of the kids will only hold so long, as they become cognizant of reality, the few of them that commit to each other and have families. The rest will fade away, without heirs. What's a long term lease to a gay couple ? Are their kids going to be inheriting the business ?
Failed business models, crushing bureaucracy, and the lack of control over futures will awaken these young Americans, they have generations of DNA from America in them. There is an American dream and most everyone here has felt it, and all immigrants certainly cherish it, Take heart, maybe it'll happen.
hitting head on helicopter, not being able to speak off prompter, 57 states, organized the slums of chicago, that according to pictures is even slummier after being organized, wearing his muslim gear, speaks of sacrifice (means granny dead, you are broke), yet seems to indulge a heady lifestyle himself, many more ironies……
I have been using the imagery of The Borg from Star Trek, but the pod people is probably better. The fact that you can't see it comming is the most frightening. At least with the borg you knew who they were.
Good read.
(I'd vote for you too.)
"Mark Levin and Ann Coulter (who, BTW, actually write their own books)"
EXCELLENT point.
The Left is a cult of personality.
"How dare they judge someone they don't even know? Now watch me write 2,000 words judging people I don't know."
IT'S OKAY WHEN WE DO IT
I take particular delight in attending University as a 40 something year old with the time and resourses to go while the kids are in class and in force, i.e. in the daytime five days a week, not a night like a normal adult. I'm respectful but ready, go ahead mention habeus corpus for enemy combatants, just be able to argue your case. They usually can't, and usually won't….youth is truly wasted on the young; to badly paraphrase…
'Pod people'. Dang. That's a good one. And all you have to do is lose consciousness – of responsibility, of common sense, reality, courtesy, tolerance, etc. – and whap! You're one of 'them'.
BTW, there’s no lonelier place for a conservative than…San Francisco??? Oh, honey, TELL me about it as I live here in the Sunset. Damn, Hester with a scarlet 'A' on her bosom could not be more ostracized and shamed than me with a big fat 'C' on mine.
You have to resort to personal insults to get your point(if I can call it that)across and McCain and Palin are the losers? Yeah, right.
Oh and also, its only people one the left who are still obsessing over Obama's win. People on the other side are the one's focusing on the future. We ain't angry about the election. We're angry over the big O's policies. But I'm pretty sure that doesn't matter to you.
That's true….I expect the applause for Obama at the next joint session to continue, and continue and continue and continue and…until they ring a bell like they did for Stalin. Then we'll know 'for whom the bell tolls'…it tolls for thee…
Great post, as usual, Mr. Winecoff. Love it.
That AWESOME Brownshirt poster – 'It's not Fascism if we do it' – is…..awesome! I've been studying the Third Reich for four decades and I swear that's one of the best uses of that poster that I've ever seen. Truly incredible.
So – please – where did you get that poster? (And all of the others?) I have GOT to get one like that for myself.
Trolls are out today, eh? Must be the warmer weather.
Seconded. I can't say "those of us" because I don't doubt some of the people who voted for 8 do have the hate/fear (kind of like the South Park episode about the flag). But it's more than a bit tiresome to have to keep sounding that horn. Disagreeing with you isn't hatred, nor is it fearful. It's disagreement.
I work in LA in a youth industry myself, and I frequently hear the offhand Sarah Palin joke or someone loudly proclaiming that some 'bigot' they know voted yes on Prop 8. It's a hostile atmosphere for Conservatives, or anyone who dares question anything Obama or the Democrat party deem law.
I wondered where this had gone. I read it (and loved it) I think on Saturday and then I couldn't find it. (Unless you hadn't written it yet and I have been time traveling again.)
EXCELLENT essay. Thank you.
I guess we have a new brood of ugly Americans. The only thing that needed to be stamped "Denied" was the forehead of the poor sap that marked up the page. The young evil Obamacons ('Bots are the good guys ;p ) show their intolerance regardless of the situation. The lack of respect for anyone or anything is reaching an all time high. If you're lucky, they may just leave the piece on the printer, follow you back to your desk and light it on fire after you step out for a break. To add insult to injury they will just claim that the insulting piece just burst into flames for daring to question the Anointed One. Don't bother debating with them. It's just a pointless exercise unless you have time to spare.
"When did dissent become a de facto hate crime?"
January 20, 2009.
Welcome to the New America. The left's takeover of academia and the media since the 1960s is bearing frightening fruit.
Your post confirms what was said in the article…thank you for your providing proof.
"I'm respectful but ready, go ahead mention habeus corpus for enemy combatants, just be able to argue your case. They usually can't, and usually won't…."
-Jamesb
Boy are you absolutely right about that. I've had that exact same type of discussion with other people. Only instead of being about habeas corpus for enemy combatants its been about why the Atomic Bombs should've been dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. When I counter them with facts like if over 100,000 Japanese were slaughtered on Okinawa alone then how many would have died on the mainland, and if Japan was so ready to surrender then why did it take TWO A-Bombs to get them to give up and not ONE, they can't answer. Just like you said, you can argue your case but they can't argue their's. And with no facts or proof at all to back up what they say.
Wow it didn't take long for the troll to show up. I'll make it simple for you. Here in Nevada, the state is pressing charges against ACORN for voter fraud. But I would imagine that you trolls are OK with ACORN. The "tolerant" left shouts down anyone disagreeing with them on a regular basis. At the VA clinic I am currently attending (for injuries sustained in battle) has a daily parade (across the street of course) of anti military lefties. The trash they spew is reprehensible at best and treasonous at worst. The truth is that the left in America loathes the average person. A great example is Affirmative Action. All I ever see from the left is a desire to change this country. I have an idea for ya. If you hold this land is such contempt, LEAVE!. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. But cowards would rather hide behind the skirts of their ideology than to truly stand up under their own accord.
(cont) Mr. Winecoff, I know that you are aware that the heart of fascism beats on the left. I wouldn't be surprised but the threat and yes I belive it was a threat, is yet the next wave for the silencing of dissent. Stand tall sir, I got your six. Still a damn shame that whoever defaced that paper didn't have the courage to at least sign it.
SUA SPONTE
To me the most disturbing aspect isn't the ignorance and unthinking uniformity — it's the lying. People who are otherwise sensible, intelligent, and honest will nevertheless assert blatantly untrue things ("Republicans are all racists" or "Bush caused the mortgage meltdown"). At some level, they must know those statements are false, but party solidarity and tribal identity are more important than truth. If you repeat the right lies, you belong to the Movement. You can feel comfortable and accepted by all the others who repeat the same lies together.
My goodness, what a tour de force! You certainly knocked Mr. Winecoff out of the park with your well-written and grammatically facinating riposte. Why it's almost as if you were channelling the combined wits of the Algonquin Round Table along with the biting insight of an H.L. Mencken. Have you thought about writing professionally? I'm sure that there are many Soros-funded publications that wouold appreciate a savvy level-headed commentator such as yourself on their editorial staffs.
Either that or they just needed to go the 7-Eleven to get another slur-pee.
Is that Perez Hilton, who says “twit”? It is spoiled brats like you that sit back and thumb your nose at everyone crying "Look at me, We won and you lost so NAH NAH.." Ultimately you have no idea what you have won or at what cost. Consequences be damned and you drink the Jim Jones Kool-aid. But hey, at least you can call everyone else losers, right? No matter that you and your family are dead from being stupid. Maybe it your payback for being bullied in middle school, get a life. Don't be stupid, a fad is a fad and right now you’re on the bandwagon.
This is one of the best things I've read all year. This is why I keep coming back to bighollywood. Awesome!
The slogan on the mock poster–"It's not fascism when we do it"–reminds me of the classic line on SOUTH PARK: "No, it's not fascism because we're not going to call it that."
One word Mr. Winecoff: Brilliant.
I really don't think they believe their statements are false at any level. They really believe them to be true with every fiber of their being. It's completely crazy.
Bigot is just a label and the libs think this label will compel folks to do what they want.
I voted for Prop 8, I was comfortable with it and have no issue admitting it. People will do, what people will do.
That's life.
Alright, so:
1) Having your speech mocked does not impinge at all upon your freedom to sway whatever dumb thing you like
2) Censorship is only censorship if it's gov't mandated
3) I know it shouldn't, but it does genuinely surprise me how quickly you guys forget who was in charge in this country, in both the executive and legislative branches, from 2000-06. Like, I know we libs had a helluva nasty persecution complex going on, but it sounds like you're ready for the cross after less than five months of being out of power. Grow up a bit.
Let me paraphrase an episode from "South Park"
Kyle's Dad: We live in a liberal Democratic society and Democrats makes the laws and these laws tell us what we can and can't say and can and can't do.
Kyle: Isn't that fascism?
Kyle's Dad: No, because we don't call it that. Do you understand?
Kyle: Do you?
Talk about proving his point. We all know Obama won, that is the electoral process. Does that mean we have to now agree with everything he does. C/mon, use that noggin for a change.
"For eight years those moonbats compared Bush to Hitler. But you know who's the real Hitler? OBAMA!"
IT'S OKAY WHEN WE DO IT
These posts make me so glad that I live in the South.
It's strange that you mention that….I JUST finished a class about the Pacific Theater in WWII, taught by a JAPANESE professor (Dr. Kawashima, U.Texas E.P., educated at UC Santa Barbara, doubters can look him up) and he described watching the bomb destroy Nagasaki from a hill he was working on( he was 30 miles away, saw mushroom cloud) collecting turpintine for the war effort (forced labor). He SPECIFICALLY mentioned revisionist historians, with some disdane, that decry the use of the A-bombs on Japan. He's in his very late seventies and while clearly not over joyed by the use of the bombs but can intellectually understand why the U.S. did it. He believes the entry by the USSR in to Manchuria and the modification to the Potsdam ultimatium were suffient, but he DOESN'T criticize the U.S. use of the bomb! He saw it BLOW UP! Case dismissed liberals, call the next case!
Indeed, We need a SC justice with empathy, as long as he or she is NOT empathetic to the plight of the soon to be aborted baby. That child deserves no empathy as the rights of the mother are protected by the Constitution. Wait, well no they are not.
Hmm, need another argument there.PS-How can a POTUS who is OK with abortion be NOT OK about waterboarding. Hmm, death vs simulated death.
If you are confused, raise your hand.
Why are you printing out personal reading matter at work, on your company's dime? Why are you stealing from your boss?
Eric Hoffer nailed this phenomenon in "The True Believer." Many mass movements reach a point where logic and skepticism are consciously rejected by the believer since these stand in the way of his total immersion in the rapture of absolute belief. This is much easier accomplished with the young since they are usually looking for accepance by the mass and (particularly today) have fewer life experiences on which to base an objective viewpoint. The belief provides a core sense of being for the believer (and particularly for those already hollowed out by the popular culture.) Any assault on the belief is an assault on the believers sense of self. Adherence to the belief also excuses the believer from having to do anything to prove his own worth or personal goodness. The believer need only parrot the tenets (or talking-points) of the movement. In my mind all of this explains why seemingly charming and reasonable people can, in less than a nano-second, become snarling bigots if their Obama fixation is challenged.
btw, the bombs and subsequent actions (USSR, etc) ending the war without an invasion probably saved 500,000 American lives and a million plus Japanese. The I.J.A. was adamant about fighting to the death even though the P.M., an admiral named Suzuki, and the Emperor were done with the war. Hirohito and the cabinet KNEW it was over….the Army just couldn't or wouldn't accept reality…kinda like it'll be when the Obamatrons lose Congress in 2010 and then the W.H. to Romney or whomever in 2012. It'll be alot of whaaaaing and gnashing of teeth!
LN Smithee? Nice
but Obama (all hail) hasn't done anything mock-worthy.
Ahh the tolerant left. Gotta love the straw-man arguments, the false premises, the leaving out of facts, the false empathy, the elitism, the self loathing. What else am I forgetting?
Ahh the tolerant left. Gotta love the straw-man arguments, the false premises, the leaving out of facts, the false empathy, the elitism, the self loathing. What else am I forgetting?
I sounded a little pessimistic in my first post–I know that in the end, all the pretty speeches and soaring empty rhetoric, Maher/Olbermann drive-bys, Critical Race Studies curricula, and general close-mindedness on the left will crumble in the face of economic reality. Multi-trillion dollar deficits, national debts that equal 80% of the GDP (it's coming), and stifling taxes and regulation cannot be wished away by sensitivity training and MoveOn bumper stickers.
The True Believers will stick by Obama to the end, but many of the people who voted for the Dear Leader and His Apostles will have second thoughts when inflation spirals out of control, jobs disappear, and taxes continue to rise. Even some of what I termed "the Grant Park People", i.e. those early-twenty-somethings who voted for Obama because he was cool and/or because Jon Stewart and their Philosophy professor told them it was the right thing to do, will have second thoughts when they are out in the job market, starting up businesses, or looking to buy a house.
1) Having your property (the printed off article) destroyed for saying "the wrong thing" is actually a small impingement up on freedom.
2) Neither the article nor the comments have yet mentioned censorship.
3) That's exactly his point: too many people see this as a "war" to "win" at all costs, and are rejoicing in victory with out knowing what that victory is costing them (or the nation).
Yeah I can totally see how having someone write on your piece of paper would bring to mind cross burnings
Well said. I learned a long time ago there's far more conformity on the left than there is among the libertarian/conservative right.
You can tell you get to them when they completely lose their minds. Not that they have minds. I look at most leftists as people with brain stems and merely the correct brain scape in order to get through the day. The rest of the cortex is slug…sucked up at a local university.
I love this post though Charles. Dead on observations.
Excellently and thoughtfully written as usual, Charles. By the way, I believe the left's suppression of dissenting thought is known by the ingenious oxymoron "repressive tolerance," which asserts that the right's ideas and opinions are always bad and must not be tolerated.
Though I'm skeptical that any of your officemates are aware of the theory, such gleefully hateful supporters of Obama have certainly embraced it in action. In this new climate of "post-political change," openly intolerant attacks like Perez Hilton's foul, vicious accusations of "hate speech" are rapidly becoming the cultural norm.
Waa- if you can't have a decent debate please let it go. You people are problem that the rest of teh country has. What did Chuck Heston say? Political correctness is fascism with a smiley face? Me thinky since you have this bile you had to spew that your the perfect example. I give you all Waa…leftwing Pod Person.
Barty your an idiot to. Does it make you happy to look like such a moron in front of millions? I hope so. What was it that Lincoln said, Tis better to stay silent and let people think your a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt. But hey keep being entertaining…Ala poor Yorick we knew him well.
Mr. Winecoff,
You have debased an entire group of people on the basis of one mystery "stamper." It's a prank, not a 1st Amendment issue, so with all due respect, get over it.
You could just as easily have written an anecdote about interoffice pranksters. Of course, that wouldn't have suited the agenda.
Document defacers – WORSE THAN THE KLAN!
Love, the Right
Are you that slow that you don't get the point of this article? In fact, the point is in the title: Bigotry of the Obamatrons.
The intolerance and outright hatred (not to mention childishness) of many Obama supporters is on display here. That is what was being pointed out. And especially because this is the attitude in our entire culture right now – either bow down to Obama or you are an outcast.
I will not bow down to this America-hating, infanticide-supporting, socialist, racist man who is sitting in the White House right now. Not now, not ever.
Did you not read later in the article where he admitted to himself it wasn't the same?
Noyadidn't.
*MissQuinn*
I don't think Mr. Winecoff said that.
Trying another "I can see my house…", moment, huh?
Fail.
*MissQuinn*
Correction in paragraph 3: the song "American Prayer" with starring Idi Amin and Perez Hilton is by Dave Stewart, not Dave Matthews, title may have been confused with Dave Matthews "American Baby".
Hey wa wa wa waaaaaaaaaa or however you spelled it, THANKS!!!
You just proved the author's point!!! Have a nice day, DUMB A$$!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
TTFN
I can easily envision the little Obamabots goose-stepping in the town square spewing, “yes we can.” As one of the dumb ba$tards that pays for this monstrosity of a federal government, I believe these mind numb, leftist, dim-witted, parasites need to be spanked and sent to their rooms. It sucks for you that you have to work in a hive of self righteous (in their own mind) liberals, you deserve combat pay. These indoctrinated lemmings are going to reap the whirlwind as Barry’s policies hit home. Experience is the best teacher and some incredibly naïve dweebs are gonna have theirs comings up, 20% interest rates, 11.5% unemployment, gas lines, misery indexes, laughing stock of the world, hyper inflation, CRA, it’ll be fun. I expect Barry to outdo Jimmy on all points. So, haul-ass left stupids we’ll see you on the other side.
I've been to Hiroshima and the Peace Park Memorial and it's fascinating for a variety of reasons. Do you that they don't mention Pearl Harbor once? My friends and I looked all over for any reference to what let to the American bombing– and nothing. America even donated footage of the Enola Gay to the memorial but it had pretty much no impact on lessening the Americans- are-evil theme going on. When I went back to school I started asking the Japanese students what they knew about WWII and Pearl Harbor and not one person– not a single one– had ever heard of Pearl Harbor.
Typical left-wing response:
Yeah, I know we suck (well at least they don't deny that part), but we're in charge, we won, you lost, and there's nothing you can do about it you right-wing …
So would I.
Mr. Winecoff, the fact that you drew so many trolls to this post only underscores how well written, thought out and dead-on it is.
"Mark Levin and Ann Coulter (who, BTW, actually write their own books)"
For what that's worth. Sure hope I can I find some of that "civil discourse or rational debate" in these books!
That would probably depend on what they wrote, and in what context . . . as well as what your experiences with cross burning had been in the past.
But regardless, having your property defaced or destroyed by somebody else just because they disagree with you is a (small) act of aggression against your freedoms.
Place this on the copier next time
Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death
Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775.
Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.
No hanging chads, but I am sure there were plenty of ACORNS. This administration borders on fearmongering and harrassment. I for one can say, "this is the first time in my adult life that I am truly ashamed of my country".
Please go look up the definition of a Fascist. Then look at what Obama is proposing for our future. They will look very similar. To much government control is most definately Fascism.
You must be working for Stalin. Oops I mean Obama.
Are you jumping to conclusions. I am allowed to print out items at work as I have a code and pay for copies, and as long as I do it on break, it is an approved activity. Why would you assume that someone is stealing without even having the facts. Guess if you do it yourself, you may assume all others do it.
Miles you again prove the point that you Leftwing lunatics are narcissists. I would bet that in your heightened state of paranoia you were waiting for brown shirted thugs to show up and take you away for saying any bigoted sort of nonsense that happened to wander through that mush between your ears. Hmmm Miles never saw any camps and noones speech was censored and please if you try and say it again I am going to have to ask you to prove it.
You see Miles some of us have studied the issues of fascism and everything people like you do is a symptom of that form of mental defect called fascism. You apparently cannot deal with some one elses point of view so here you are playing the victim card like you will win points. Awesome. That victim card you play Miles cheapens you and your point of view. NO ONE CARES! And you aren't a victim. Let it go.
If you want an example of that Perez Hilton Phenom. check out the statements by "anonymous" sources about Carrie's behavior at the pagent in that tome of credibility, US Magazine. I almost threw the copy of it across the dentists office today.
Mike sorry but thats how it starts. Ever read any of the history of Nazi Germany? Soviet Russia? What about fascist Italy. Before you start marginalizing an opinion you ought to do some quality study. Maybe you would have a different point of view. Of course that would probably not be something someone with your open mind would want to try but hey..we gotta try to open a few leftwing narrow minds a little.
Adrian, are you able to look at yourself in the mirror each morning with a clear conscience. I thought the left was all about tolerance. Your comment just proves that if there are those who don't agree with you, you would rather they be dead. Tolerance Indeed!
Very interesting. I guess there's "victors justice" and "losers history". The nation of Japan is basically emasculated by the Treaties they live under so at least their illusions can't "mushroom" back in to belligerancy. They started it, we ended it, and that's it. I was born near Tokyo and grew there till age 10, it's a beautiful place. I left there many years ago, I hope to return sometime soon.
Mr. Winecoff,
Thank you, and please continue to grace us with your well thought out articles. I appreciate your candor and applaud your strength and convictions.
Of course you can't debase an entire group off of one incident, but the incident author is describing is only one of the many incidents that are constantly being perpetrated by this group.
Miles next time you talk to a camp victim or walk through Sachsenhausen come find me. Until then please allow me to say that you are a leftwing brain washed narrow minded fool who has no idea what he is talking about and is only interested in making sure he attacks the oposition. If you were truly about free speech as you like to "think" you are you woudl be offended by what occured in the above artical. But you aren't. You are offended that the person transgressed was offended because that person doesn't agree with you.
Miles when you grow up and realize that being criticized and having people voicing dissent is part of life come find us. You Obamabots need to grow the hell up because if you don't your hubris will destroy you. It always does.
To Winecoff – sorry you're feeling suppressed, but you need to man up and quit being turned off by "mocking." Or do you simply not have a moral principle strong enough to stand up for? If so, I pity you because you would be living your life in the gray world of moral relativism. You know, that feeling that would compel you to end up saying, "I believe in my principles and that they are good!…but I guess not that much…maybe I can't believe in them strongly because others won't like me…that's bad…or maybe I should just not believe in them…or even talk about them…how 'bout I just shut up now? Forget I exist, really."
NOT ME. I have principles that I believe in. Enough, if needs be, to die for them – or kill for them.
SEE PART 2 NEXT.
PART 2
Find some courage. It's a liberating experience (pun richly intended.) Be the person they cannot control. Be bigger than they are – their scorn is meaningless. (How can someone who comes out of the gay closet be so destitute of public courage?) You can only grow stronger after you die if your life is dedicated to worthwhile principles, because someone else will pick up the torch and carry on.
(Or do you worry that your torch ain't worth carrying? You sound too full of angst to be anything other than a closet Lib.)
As for your office Lib panty-waisters, tell 'em from me: Sow the beans, reap the flatus.
Ernest, why are you trying to live out your half baked Marxist schemes on the taxpayer dime.
I've had more than a few animated discussions with the lefties here in San Francisco. They're hopeless in their doctrinaire stupidity. Most think the New York Times and Washington Post are right-wing publications. I've been called a "racist" more than once in places where they didn't know me. But nobody has ever tried what they did to the author. That may be because one of the advantages to being a conservative in Moscow by the Bay is that the lefties are all talk and no walk. They know that if they tried something like that with me, I would hunt them down, and feed it to them in pureed form, since they would have no teeth left to chew with. And then I would call the police and report that I had just been attacked by a crazed junkie who has no teeth.
Which is weird because the Klan was founded by Democrats and I thought you love Democrats Blarty.
Great post, Charles.
The thing I just don't get (well, one of them anyway) is the nerve of someone to mess with someone else's stuff (office print job in this case). As Charles points out, the person who did it had no way of knowing who printed the editorial or why. Plus, it wasn't just a matter of being disapproving of it. The person felt comfortable in defacing another person's material–with hate speech, no less. The mentality it takes to do that is frightening. Okay, it's just a print job, but what's next? What will be the next thing that it's okay to do because it's only a Republican or conservative. The verbal attacks on Palin were pretty nasty, but not entirely new. Just ask Clarence Thomas. Beyond verbal attacks on public figures, at what point will those of us who work among the pod people have to fear for our safety? Sounds a bit dramatic, I know, but "DENIED" on a print job is a step down that road.
Gee, math guy, you're whiny.
If that was what we were saying, you'd have a point. But it's not. What we're saying is that many liberals don't just disagree with us; they want to shut us up. Deny it if you like, but that doesn't change it. I've had the experience twice in the past week, and many times before that, and I think it's been established that I'm not alone in that.
===Boo hoo hoo. There are people who don't agree with me. They must be brainwashed. Boo hoo hoo. There are people on television who don't agree with me.===
Disagreeing is one thing; tell me stupid, do you condone the leftwing degenerate for defiling the author’s paper? Can I go ahead and slash all your tires and break your windows if I don’t like one of your leftwing bumperstickers?
They're not pod people.
Brain sucking zombies is more apt.
It's not that they think their talking points are God's honest truth, it's that it never even occurs to them to question whether it might be otherwise. They have an almost pathetically fidelitous trust in their sources.

Excellent article Charles and thank you. I have had the same experience with some very close and dear friends that you sight in the last paragraph. Its frightening, when they look and (yell) "denied" to your face. Dissent is NOT an option. Oh and HOORAY for Big Hollywood, it continues its march to be my favorite place on the world wide web.
Remember? Dissent is the highest form of patriotism. Oops! I'm out of date. Sorry.
I agree, Rambler, that's why Andrew started Big Hollywood to foster a "rebellion" or a least a taking back of ideas through the culture. The Left has been genius in its takeover- through Big Hollywood maybe we can make a beachhead- to start to take a little piece back. I hope.
Why are you crying if Obama won, Troll!
Late again to another excellent article..Arrrrgh..Charles, I think what you experienced is appalling but once you explained your co-workers ages it became understandable. They're young, brainwashed individuals who have never been trained to think for themselves. They only know how to follow the masses, thank our schools and college professors for that. Keep fighting the good fight Charles, you can do this.
Hi Lola…..
I think it is "Alas Poor Yorick, I knew him Horatio."
Don't feel bad it's one of the most misquoted of Shakespeare's lines. Blarney Stone is just responded with vitirol because he cannot respond to Mr. Winecoff's very prescient points. It is hard for people like him to see what fools they really are so they respond with backlash and anger.
In 10 years when these policies hit home they'll finally realize. I fear it will be too late.
I can't believe someone else realized that the political text for the 21st century was Invasion of the Body Snatchers, before I could write it up myself. I'm so PO'd. The other text of the 21st century is Fahrenheit 451, where the books are there, but people don't read them.
Change ….. er …… Central Planning we can believe in!
Mr. Winecoff…….. In the only parlance allowed to me today by the current regime……
DoublePlusGood Citizen!
OMG! Oh, I'm, like, sooooo sorry – I am NOT a Gen Oer, but . . . omigosh . . . this is an incredibly wonderful column. Congrats on nailing so many points (I've got to read it again – and again, and then send it to, like, 100 people), Mr. Winecoff. Excellent!
Absolutely, Midnight Rambler.
As a Conservative in NorCal, I can vouch for the obnoxious/malicious behavior I witnessed/endured from my "open-minded" Liberal neighbors (all in their 30's and 40's mind you). I've been called racist, clueless and born without a brainstem among other things, simply for being a dreaded Republican and for not going along with the crowd to vote for Obama.
There were also plenty of hateful and rude comments in person and on Facebook about Palin and Bush and "all of those Republican liars who lie".
Overall, the message was "If you're a Republican/Conservative, move along, because you ain't welcome here and don't even think about speaking up because we'll shout you down with nasty insults!"
It's interesting to note that the original setting of the book The Invasion of the Body Snatchers was Mill Valley. I have always wondered what a paradise of independent thinking it must have been when the book was being written.
HA! I've got to start watching "South Park."
Hear! Hear!
Virtually nothing in this reply makes sense. You've talked to camp victims, so you feel comfortable comparing what happened in Nazi Germany to tax hikes and stimulus packages? I'm anti-free speech cuz I'm not going to share dude's waaaahburger over the fact that someone defaced a piece of copy paper on which he printed a Washington Post article? Where's the injustice here? Where's the pattern of repression? Who is disenfranchising this guy? Freedom of speech works both ways–you're welcome to your opinion, but others are just as welcome to tell you you're a fool. I'm not offended that he's offended, I just think it's really childish and shallow.
And contrary to what you may believe, I'm glad there are people out there criticizing this administration, and I wish more people from my ostensible side of the aisle would stand up and say something about Obama's worthless cabinet appointments and milquetoast social policy positions. I encourage people to voice dissent, but that doesn't mean you get a pass on saying stupid things.
So, yeah: as per your first amendment right, you can continue to talk in hushed tones about fascism and Nazi Germany and patterns of censorship and group think, and I'll continue to tell you that you sound like an hysterical college freshman who's had one too many cans of Mountain Dew over the course of a night-long X Files marathon.
Oh, boy! What's next? KRYSTALNACHT?! </sarcasm>
Don't be surprised.
Hanging chads are a result of stuffing too many blank ballots in a basement Vote-O-matic to hand out to the dupes bussed in to vote without first checking where on the ballot where the Democratic candidate was listed.
Back to the article. I thought I was the only one that saw strains of pod people in the Obamatrons.
Thank you for defending this great country Old Soldier !
1. So you're defending the people who wrote "denied" and "right winger go home" on Winecoff's document?
2. Winecoff never mentioned censorship. He's talking about groupthink.
3. The Republicans never came close to having a 60 seat filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. And, speaking of government censorship, they never proposed bringing back the so-called "Fairness Doctrine."
slashing tires & breaking windows = defacing a piece of paper? * okay *
"…an all-out intifada against the individual."
Oh yeah.
Wonderful post, Charles. And very insightful quoting Peck's "People of the Lie". That book helped me understand much in life, the nature of evil…and of course, Liberalism. And I too regard with total horror the number of my good friends who have become , seemingly overnight, ObamaPod people. Not knowing who they pray to, not caring what they serve.
Stay awake, folks!!!!!
Miles, go review Mussolini's economic policies and then take another look at the Obama admin's actions vis-a-vis GM and Chrysler. Then come back armed with a bit of actual knowledge.
The point is defiling something you don't happen to like. Whatever happened to that liberal tolerance we always hear about? Maybe you prefer this analogy: how ‘bout if you were in an office waiting for a fax and a Republican happened to get it and decided to crumple it up and throw it away knowing it would irritate the bedwetting leftist it was sent to? That would be funny, no? No?
You're a good man Charles, thank you for another excellent article. Continued success and good health.
Thank you. I am never disappointed when I come here to read at the end of the day.
Ironic place to post this comment don't ya think?
Sorry but I don't care if I misquoted Shakespeare…the point was made and that was the important thing. You get lost in the minutia dude. Don't do that.
No!
geez, what a turned around world this has become. As a flaming leftist myself, I find myself bewildered. On the one hand, YES, this was a CASE OF INTOLERANCE.
On the other hand, geez, us folks on the left have been beaten down for so long by this type of thing… its sure tempting to give a smidge back just a little bit.
How long have I had to walk through the valley of "Go away dirty hippy!" lamblasting?
How long have I had to listen to people accuse me of not loving my country?!
How long… okay you get the idea. Anyway, my point isn't that Whinecoff here isn't "wrong"… my point here is that he is making a very big MOUNTAIN over a very tiny ant hill.
All of this posturing from the right… I dunno, at the end there's a feeling of "Me thinks you doth protest too much!" YaknowwhatI'msayin'?
I think the same way, in my more optimistic moments. It's occurred to me that one reason leftist professors have been able to get away with filling little brains with p.c. fluff over the past several decades is that, ironically, capitalism was working so well that people indulged them (a great mistake on the part of conservatives.). "Diversity workshops" and whatnot are luxury items. The little brats the author of this article has to put up with now will be suffering themselves in a few years – they're living in a state that is coming apart at the seams and they're the ones who will be footing the bulk of the bill for Obama's spending. The sneers will leave their faces soon enough when they realize that a "Gender Studies" major won't get them a house or a lifestyle anything close to what their parents had. And that "free" healthcare isn't free.
The pity of it is the rest of us have to suffer too. But if you think I'm going to hold back on the "I told you sos" – well, no, actually, I'll be rubbing it in relentlessly.
Ah, leave Adrian alone, he's just being a good little goosestepper. He would have been a star at the University of Berlin circa 1936.
Gary, couldn't help notice your reply…the issue of dealing with friends who have been transformed into blind servants in the name of Obama is one of the issues which could be visited @ the actors table. Thoughts?
I'm awake and just a phone call away.
Excellent post, I suggest everyone watch these YouTube videos of ex-KGB officer Uri Bezmenov articulately describing how the Soviet Union targeted and brainwashed these "useful idiots" of the American Left to destroy the United States from within.

Projection. They're the ones that bring up censorship, when none is mentioned in the original article. Much of what they're fulminating about is what they're actually guilty of.
"Us folks on the left have been beaten down for so long." Oh, poor widdle one! Ah, yes, how the left suffered under the terrible Bush years, not being able to express an opinion on a college campus, being hounded by the media, Dick Cheney's minions making everyone hide under the bed! What heartrending tales you'll be able to tell your grandkiddies. "I remember when Bush shut down Daily Kos and sent everyone in a Che t-shirt to prison camps!" Except that he didn't do that, did he? (Actually, that's exactly the sort of thing Che did do.)
Project much, drama queen?
If Winecoff did run for President, there will be no limit to the left's homophobia…and they will deny it all!
Judging by the results of Public Education, for all the good that our books are doing we might as well be burning them.

I've been there also. Ground Zero Peace Park in '78. This was before the Japanese school system began revising history. The Japanese are or were very respectful of Dec 7. Japanese that I was very friendly with would avert their eyes. Likewise, we knuckledragging, insensitive Jarhead baby killers similarly respected Aug 6th and 9th. Mutual respect between people cognizant of history, killed by progressives.
Obama has attained deity status in much of America and almost all of the MSM. His elevation to the office of POTUS validates their belief system. To them, he represents a shining new day in America and many, "for the first time in their adult lives", are feeling good about their country! Oh Joy!
But they dare not rest on their laurels. The evil ones are in full retreat but must be driven further into oblivion lest their wicked, sinful ways ever be allowed to see the light of day again. The evil ones' children will be properly educated in the ways of Obama. Home-schooling will be outlawed and private schools will only be available to the children of the ruling class. Continued below………
……Continued from above
An attempt will be made to humanely re-educate the adults and they will be offered full citizenship rights in return for the satisfactory completion of the program and the signing of a loyalty oath to Obama. The unrepentant will be shouted-down, ostracized and shunned (much like they are now). By law, their gatherings will need State approval and will be supervised by FCC-approved Community Advisory Boards.
The Democrat Party will be renamed The Obama Party and all other parties will be terminated. Ultimately, the Constitution will simply be replaced by a listing of hate-crimes against protected groups including The State and Obama himself. Resistance will be futile.

I wonder what happened. I was there in the mid-90's and I didn't feel precisely disrespected, I just felt like there was no historical memory. Though I bet every country does this over time. I'm sure if we were to compare our school's history books from 30 years ago to today, covering the same events, the history would be presented very differently. The difference is that our books would make us look worse while other countries, like Japan, make them look better.
Sssssh…he's sleeping through history. Don't wake him up.
I've never seen a written tantrum before, but I'm sure I've just witnessed one with your posting. What's up with the gloating? You don't even want to go into comparisons between the last few elections. If anyone was trying to steal the 2000 election, it was the Dims – I was in FL at the time – I saw the shenanigans the Dims tried to pull. The reason you leftys are so angry about it is because it's the first time we conservatives didn't meekly shut up and hand you the election. And then personal attacks on McCain and Palin? What's the point? I see a little projection in your writing – it looks like your loudly complaining about even the hint that the left is acting a little like fascists, or pod people or whatever. Learn how to deal with it as we did. Now that you're the ones "in charge", you're putting much more of a clamp on any dissent – real or perceived – than conservatives have done to you in the last 8 years. If anything, that's the real point of the article.
Yet again another great article Charles.
The malevolent echo's of failed societies have found voice in the culmination of decades worth of social engineering, (public schools, public college) into a crescendo on par with the perfect storm…. Obama.
So deafening is this storm that normal phrases that should install fear into anyone that hears them is lost to the howling diatribes. Normal phrases such as Civilian Security Force. This very idea should bring to mind some of histories great Civilian Security Forces. Note to liberals at this point you're going to have to think beyond what the name is and focus on what the subject behind that name embodies.
The media in bed with the President, not shivers up Matthews leg but more like shivers down my spine, American liberals should start to at least think about this new but historically old danger.
They say when the jungle becomes silent you know the enemy is close….. the comedians have gone silent America the enemy is close!

Ardo? Yet another buzzword I'm not familiar with, presumably?
Me too.
Exceptional column, Mr. Winecoff. You are a gifted writer with a wonderful grasp of the little things that don't feel so small to those they impact. I like how you took a small incident and instead of ignoring it (or whining about it), found a way to use it as a metaphor for the things we're seeing all around us. I couldn't agree more, and expect to see these incidents increasing as we go along, especially when things get worse and people who are incapable of admitting they could be wrong have to face the failings of a horrifically under-qualified Commander-In-Chief.
I watched those about 6-8 months ago and Holy Moly are they scary. Everyone should watch them. Very prophetic..Thanks for the reminder..
Way to prove Charles' point for him.
southparkstudios.com has ALL the episodes. That dialogue came from an episode made waaay back during the Clinton Administration about sexual harassment lawsuits gone amok (thanks to Kyle's dad).
Actually, 98Z, it's 'C' for Conservative. :>)
By the time I got to the printer to pick it up, someone else had already seen it – and stamped “DENIED” across the top of the page in red ink. Next to that was scrawled, “RIGHT WINGER GO HOME.”
Are the "DENIED" stamps common in the office, or did this particular person have one specially made? Wondering exactly how twisted the people in your office are.
Why are you crying, math guy? Did you get beat up by your own strawmen?
We'll take your word for it. You've already written about 500 words too many.
This, from people who have the vapors and call their therapists because somebody said 'you people."
Love, the Left
This is really wonderful. Thank you.
Obama doesn't have the balls to be Hitler. He's Castro.
Not until you learn to spell it right </no sarcasm>
With Obama it will be more like Night of the Living Dead.
If one is incapable of thinking for ones self, then the logical way to vote is liberal. If on the other hand the brain is still capable of rational thought, the conservative is the proper way to vote. How nice normal people can fail to see the failurers of the socialist, communist, leftist styles of government is beyond my comprehension. My grandpappy used a corn cob, my daddy used a corn cob and I still use a corn cob is unfortunately the thought processes of so many. Change the words "used a corn cob" to "was a a democrat" and you have the mind set for so many people today. Thats not very charmin to say the least. Sharing in scaricity is not the way for any nation to prosper and all the socialist, communist government's of the world could not do any better than that.
"And there is nothing 'fascist' about being in control !! – - "
Oh no of course not. And nationalization of private industry through bullying and threats that's not Fascist either ………
Right Benito ——- S'all Right
Censorship is only Censorship of the government does it.
Why?
Do you have any clue what Fascism is………
It is corporatism. It was touted as the Third Way between Marxism and Socialism. It is Corporatism, the takeover of Private Industry by government. Deer Leader is going to use the power of the White House Press corps to punish Bondholders who won't accept 29 cents on the dollar. Exactly what is "milqutoast" about that. Exactly how does the government even have this authorty. THIS IS AN EVIL ACT. There is no looking at Obama any other way. One would be hard pressed to find any difference between him and Benito Mussolini.
You sir are an incredible hipocrit. You come on this board with childish insults trolling around then when you get spoken back in the same tone you attempt this high road "I believe in dissent" nonsense. So tell you what you want me to quit calling you and yours Fascist. Have Obama sell the interests the government has illegally obtained.
And please I have read you posts you are the last person on God's green earth to call anyone shallow.
As if to prove the point.
If we click on Mr. Winecoff's bio it says he is a TV writer and Journalist.
Gee is there any chance that a TV Writer / Slash Journalist might need to print a news article for work reasons.
Hmmm…… that's a tuffy……
Classoc +1
Yeah that's right and we are all a bunch of tea baggers ith overdeveloped limbic brains too.
Tell you what Mike. Since you are obviously so well schooled explain to me how when Benito Mussolini takes over private industry and Barack Obama does it what these nuanced differences really are. Explain how a President who uses threats such as telling banks he stands between them and pitchforks and bullies Chrysler bond holders to accept less than they have a right to be paid or experience the full wrath of the White House Press Corps is unlike Musolini or Hitler. Why is Fascism the Third Way supporting Government takeover of Industry. Why did the New Republic support Benito Mussolini in the 20's as a great "Progressive".
You do realize that everyone;s 401 K was halved recently by the direct actions of this criminal in the white house. So Expain to me how none of these things are Fascism when the O does it.
PS: I find it ironic that the Pitchfork line was also used by Musolini in the 20's in the same circumstance. I also note that in your critical thinking argument you don't give one example to support your conclusions.
I'm getting this image of an unshaven basement dweller doing his version of a touchdown dance at Obama's acceptance speech, before being yelled at by his mother for not doing the dishes…
By the way…STOP ENDING DECLARATIVE STATEMENTS WITH SOLID CAPITALS! JUST BECAUSE YOU WRITE EVERY OTHER WORD LIKE THIS DOESN'T INCREASE THE POWER OF YOUR STATEMENT, IT JUST MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A MORON.
Great stuff! "Militant ignorance" is a powerfull idea. Found all over the place. The Truth is so powerfull it must be stopped with militant ignorance.
The answer to your final question is this(I hope;)): life will kick the youngsters around enough for them to wake up to reality. Easy to believe stuff when you live in a happy cacooned existence.
I was beginning to suspect that Obama had a reserve of "brain slugs" that he would put in peoples' ear after the likes of Colin Powell and other unliklies started to endorse him.
For every Mark Levin and Ann Coulter, you usually have about a 5 to 1 ratio of libtard writers with their own books filled with "civil discourse or rational debate" as well. Just go into a Barnes & Noble or Borders and its as plain as the nose on your face. And, you don't want to dig too deeply into how many of those leftists' books are actually written by ghost writers, it would just depress you even more than you are now.
Uh….huh?
Might have come from Provers 17:28 "Even the foolish man, when he keeps quiet, is taken to be wise: when his lips are shut he is credited with good sense."
Great piece.
I've come across similar actions by similarly closed and cowardly minds who deface and defame while no one's looking. History is crawling with them.
I love the Body Snatchers comparison. So true. So true. I've felt it myself when surrounded by pod people.
Don Siegel dismissed the Red Scare symbology. He said he simply wanted to make a monster movie with no monsters. He sure did! Man, when Dana Wynter, such a lovely actress, screams "he's in here!" my heart drops through the floorboards. Wow, that is a painful moment.
What we need is the great Whit Bissell at the hospital at the end, to do that great head turn of his, that he does so well, as we see in his eyes that he finally believes us, to get the FBI on the phone, to roadblock the highways, to…
..to save us.
Whit, we need you!
Because that's the definition of the word
Thank you to Breitbart for giving you a platform. My husband and I have relocated to Texas from California , not only because of the taxation but because of the liberals. Enjoyed the article but I know you may need to check your brake lines and tire pressure daily before leaving for home. Enjoy the weather while you can still stand it out there and don't change!
Excellent read!…
Most liberal 'useful idiots' have not read Animal Farm…((prolly can't read, anyway)…It would do us good, as a Nation, to collectivly digest it and it's meaning….and to remember the lesson…"Some Animal are more equal than others."…..I think we have sadly arrived at THAT place.
Couldn't agree more. I've been calling them pod people or Borg for quite a while now. Resistance is, apparently, futile.
That was the best episode. I sent it to some Dem. family members and they got mad at me. Which is fine. Truth hurts don't it? HA!
As this is intelligently written, it also forgets to take in to effect the previous 8 years, and yours and many others similar attitudes to what you are now experiencing as an outsider. Just as many people are holding on to the Obama train, not caring where it may be headed, as there were taking the W train in the exact same manner. Be more responsible in handling your emotions and thinking that you're "a victim". For every example of an uneducated, zombie, prick liberal you give me, I can give you just as many conservatives. Every last bit of what you have described was done within the last 8 years. You should probably just take a step off your high horse, thank God you live in this country, and wait your turn to gloat and dance once your party gets their act together. That and maybe do work at work and print out articles at your home.
Great article, Mr. Winecoff.
Here is someone, wondering aloud, if everyone is experiencing the same, scary group-think and intolerance of discussion which includes opposing views.
Miles: I, for one, don't agree with attacking you for positing an opinion (your subsequent posts indicate you aren't a lock-step Obamatron). I do have a question–did you personally experience an overt pressure, nearly everywhere you went, to avoid expressing your opinion from '00 to'06? This is just an open question, as I've wondered if the "left" (over-generalizing for brevity) experienced anywhere near the intolerance in every aspect of both work and social life that Mr. Winecoff (and I too in the Midwest, of all places) have experienced.
Trying to be as open-minded as I can given my own experiences, but at least from what I've observed, there does definitely seem to be a difference between '00-'06 and '09. Wondering what you experienced during that time………..
No. It isn't the definition of the word. In fact, I couldn't find that definition anywhere. If you could provide me with a cite that would be most helpful.
Censorship can occur at any given time. It occurs when there is an impediment to the free flow of information. (It's why we hear private school wannabe journalists scream and cry that the administration of their is censoring them when they can print their musings in the school paper). Whereas it's illegal when the government censors, it is legal (but not always acceptable) when private entities do it.
That said, it wasn't censorship, but it wasn't civil either.
From dictionary.com:
cen⋅sor [sen-ser]
–noun
1.an _official_ who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures, radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other grounds.
From the OED:
censor
• noun- an official who examines material that is to be published and suppresses parts considered offensive or a threat to security.
Censorship occurs when a government entity suppressed entitled speech on the grounds that it's dangerous in some way. Someone disagreeing with you does not count as censorship. When private school wannabe journalists complain about censorship because their articles aren't getting published, they're just being dim: it's not censorship, it's an editorial decision. Censorship is not an "impediment to the free flow of information," it's actual state repression of free speech. This happens very, very rarely in this country. Don Henley suing over the use of his song? Not censorship. People loudly disagreeing with a published and freely available article? Not censorship.
[...] DENIED: Bigotry of the Obamatrons by Charles Winecoff [...]
Miles, note you purposefully avoided using the definition of "censorship" and instead gave the definition of a related, but not identical, word.
You also only chose piecemeal definitions. I've never seen an OED definition that short, you maroon.
It also doesn't address Freedom21's point. Where, even in your intentionally distorted attempt to provide a definition, does the word "GOVERNMENT" appear? What's that tool, it's not there? I guess Freedom was right and you were wrong.
Enough time wasted on a low-down troll. Make me some pie, biatch!
Unfortunately, a lot of them have read Animal Farm but they completely and consistently misunderstood it's message. Every class for the past 10 years that I have had read that book (or 1984) has managed to twist it's meaning completely in reverse. That's how brainwashed they are. They really think that Liberals are incapable of being oppressive or unfair and that only Conservatives or Republicans can be Totalitarian. They think in black and white. Conservative is wrong. Liberal is right. The really dim bulbs thought Animal Farm's point was to make a case for animal rights.
I do not believe that a person can be a smart, educated, student of human history AND STILL be a LIBERAL.
What?
Proper sentence structure is your friend. Please learn it.
The previous 8 years? The time when Democrats endlessly declared the president to be a fascist? When Democrats, as soon as it was to their advantage politically, shifted from supporting the defense of the country to declaring our defeat, convicting US servicemen as war criminals without evidence? The 8 years of the left declaring that the Constitution had been "shredded", but being incapable of actually explaining what rights had been taken away from them?
The 8 years when a liberal Republican president reached out to the Democrats to help make policy, only to see the compromises declared monstrous by the Democrats?
The 8 years that included a political witch hunt that managed only to catch a vice-president's aide in a disagreement with a reporter?
The 8 years of the press repeating every damned lie they could find, if it made the president look bad?
Grow up, david. The left has been heartily destroying the civic AND CIVIL discourse in the country for as long as I've been alive. Own up to it.
Thanks Shady. I was going to respond …but it didn't seem as if Miles was going to share his pie…some socialist he is!
Outstanding post Charles. Hopefully in 2010 Obamasoros becomes a lame duck. Just watch how fast skepticism becomes popular again.
"If you say something to correct them – or just ask a question about their leader – they blink, not comprehending. You repeat the question. They smile at you wanly. It does not compute." Love, love, love this, so true, I experience this daily! HA!
Honestly? The walking around with blinders on is dangerous. Remember when any one who wasn't with the president wasn't patriotic, even the people over in the sand pit fighting? Has that slipped your memory? Repeating every lie? There shouldn't be any. Especially ones that involve a nation going to war and the death of many brave young people. This could go on for awhile, regardless of your news source the last administration was no where near a perfect one. Now finally, you are going to claim the left has ruined civil and civic discourse yet likely sit down nightly to FOX news shouting with O'Reilly, and any else that shares your opinion, at the those satanic liberals. Find unbiased news, better yet research everything you hear and read how it is played on both sides of the coin and make an educated decision. Having sensationalist news spoon fed to you for entertainment is not being informed. Saying that Republicans did not take advantage of their time in the limelight is irresponsible. I never once said that liberals are perfect. I merely stated that it is now the conservatives turn to be the little guy. To go any further would lead me to assume that your 13 and just itching to argue with someone.
Well, no. The charge is voter REGISTRATION fraud, and even the prosecution says there's essentially no chance that this led to any vote fraud. And Acorn points out they fired the guy who was committing the crime — which was paying by the name signed up, rather than by the hour. Of course, what that led to was lots of forms with Mickey Mouse on them, all of which were tossed out long before any election. But go ahead and make up facts that fit your prejudices.
Excellent post!
I sent the articles to some co-workers, because I thought maybe this could wake them from the zombie sleep, but alas now i'm a homophob, racist, biggot, ..and some other choice words
So now the stock market dropping is proof of Obama's Fascism? What exactly do you think Fascism is — some kind of magic fairy dust bad guys sprinkle around to make you suffer?
As someone who works at a newspaper, I have experience in dealing with this type of leftist behavior.
My advice would be this: Wear … them … out. Fight and argue and bicker at EVERY turn. Truth is on the conservative side — their ideology can not win.
My first day on the job, a few of them were bashing the Patriot Act until I asked them how it violated the Fourth, Fifth, or Sixth Amendment . TWO years later, I still don't have an answer.
Not only that … I have beaten the life from these leftists so thoroughly that now I can actually see them recoil every time an idea comes to their little minds.
I even switched two of them.
Great entry, Charles. Keep fighting.
My suggestion contact a lawyer and ask if there is the basi for a lawsuit. Then inform the office manager that unless the offending bigot is not found and publicly fired that you will bring suit on the company and the office manager.
I suspect if the case has merit that you will find out first who is the bigot and what their next career will be. This is how minorities and women worked to get in the door at the work place so adopt their tactics and make their rules work for you.
You forget, Winecoff is not a *true* homosexual.
guess what? Obama won!
For now…
Go easy, Mo, I don't want you to suffer a nose bleed, or worse. Do we really need to resort to ad hominem attacks?
Of course I understand the point of the article. Perhaps you didn't understand the point of my post. No worries…I'll spell it out for you: The hackneyed anecdote introducing Winecoff's premise is flimsy, at best.
Are you qualified to speak for our entire culture? Is Mr. Winecoff? Or, in an attempt to add fuel to the fire, are you (and he) generalizing on the basis of a handful of isolated events?
Both your comment and the OP conspicuously fail to mention the intolerance and outright hatred spewed forth by many Repubs. The plain fact is that many folks on ALL sides of the court have conducted themselves like idiots. In fact, THAT point is also in the title: Bigotry of the "Obamatrons."
Mo, the vitriol pouring out of some conservative camps stinks like sour grapes. A Dem is in the WH, and you're pissed. Doesn't matter who (s)he is, b/c that person would've become a punching bag, regardless. That's politics, I get it.
But does Obama REALLY hate America, or are you quoting a Rush soundbite? Does he REALLY support the murder of infants? Does he REALLY judge folks based on their race? Does he REALLY support state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods?
I urge you to search first a dictionary, and then your soul. You can't possibly be as closed-minded as your post suggests.
Have a great day!
I have to say, I love the way the trolls are validating the point of the article. I counted exactly one coherent statement correctly spelled. That one statement could be summed up as "Well, you guys are all jerks, too, so there!". The rest were pure, unadulterated ad hominem vitriol.
Thanks, trolls. Keep it up. You do almost as much good as the article itself.
As to the article in question, well done, sir. As a non-brain-washed twenty-something, we do exist. And we're right behind you.
Lola,
People on both sides of the ball have conducted themselves like grade-A jackasses.
To be honest, the last sentence of your post suggests that you've blindly aligned yourself with the party line. Ever read any of the history of Nazi Germany? Soviet Russia? Fascist Italy? I suggest you heed your own advice, m'kay?
Ohh Mikey truth hurts don't it? Jackasses? OK…..when the left respects Carrie Prejean, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and several other promininent Conservatives and stops marginalizing millions of people who don't want to hear the politically correct fascist line then perhaps we will talk. Mikey if you don't want to be attacked, stop assaulting people yourself. You know, the right of free speech? Its a good thing, when the left respects it we will respect them. Until then GAME ON! Being called a fascist really is insulting to the left good. They do it all the time to us, so apparently we now know they and most likely you cannot take what you dish out. Good to know. A weakness has been exposed. Now to exploit it.
[...] Charles Winecoff has a depressingly thoughtful piece on the coercion tactics used by the young Obama generation, or [...]
And as a liberal in a Red State, I can vouch for the same obnoxious/malicious behavior described by you and Mr. Winecoff. Yet I know that these people are idiots first, and conservatives second.
Clear-headed judgment must never be supplanted by anecdotal evidence.
I will concede that many online channels are dominated by liberal thought, but hey, you guys get AM radio, right?
Part 1
”Both your comment and the OP conspicuously fail to mention the intolerance and outright hatred spewed forth by many Repubs.”
Spare me. Pointing like a child and saying, “Well what about them” does not erase the facts of what Obama has done, is doing, and will continue to do. (Oh, and by the way, I love the tolerance that was shown to me for 8 years – all of which has been magically erased from public memory.)
”Mo, the vitriol pouring out of some conservative camps stinks like sour grapes.”
Facts are not vitriol.
”But does Obama REALLY hate America, or are you quoting a Rush soundbite? “
I don’t listen to Rush. I look at what Obama has said and done.
Part 2
“Does he REALLY support the murder of infants? “
Of course he does. Look up his vote on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. Look up his promise to sign FOCA.
“Does he REALLY judge folks based on their race? “
Twenty years in a racist church, friends with a racist, and a campaign and now presidency that has focused more on race than I have ever seen in my entire 41 years on this earth.
“Does he REALLY support state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods?”
Do you even listen to what the man has said and has done?
”I urge you to search first a dictionary, and then your soul. You can't possibly be as closed-minded as your post suggests.
Have a great day!”
Save your snotty condescension and your false pleasantries for someone else. You cannot refute my facts.
Let's see: the entire journalism industry, all of Hollywood, the educational system – all of these dominated by leftist thought. But in your mind the little outlet of AM radio is equal to all of that. (And even this outlet would be ended by the so-called Fairness Doctrine.
Yeah, that's equal representation.
Again refute my facts. Oh, wait. You can't.
I can only read postings from the "trolls" with amusement. What better example to prove your point?
Thank you for writing this. I assumed I was a Liberal until 9/11. Imagine my surprise when I saw fellow Democrats begin to sell the country down the river to muticluturalism, political correctness, "inclusiveness",
appeasement, and become apologists for the very set of policies and forces that will eventually eradicate America. (At least, the one I know.) You have articulated what I and many others go through on a daily basis–from the party of "Tolerance." Their proselytizing is unasked for, unfounded, and usually free of any basis in history or fact. It's all about FEEEEELINGS!!! (And the right, rote, Progressive vernacular.) Yet, all of them think they are "mainstream." They make the Moonies look like anarchists.
OHMYGAWD! I see the light. Thanks ever so much for clarifying your arguments. You won! Therefore you're right ! Bush won twice, therefore he was still wrong. As for the Republican Party, I'm Canadian. You're evidently way too smart for me. I will continue to "have fun out there", if you and the other Borg find it in your huge "liberal" hearts to allow it. I'll wear a green helmet and everything!
Liberals see themselves as victims and thus have a mammoth sense of entitlement to fight their oppressors. My very liberal brother (who I love) lashes out quite harshly (and incoherently).
Good thing there is no bigotry being shown here.
"Spare me. Pointing like a child and saying, “Well what about them” does not erase the facts of what Obama has done, is doing, and will continue to do."
I'll let you re-read the post, and my comments, then re-think your answer. Hint: "Obamatrons," not "Obama."
=========
"Facts are not vitriol."
I'm glad we agree on something.
=========
"Of course he does. Look up his vote on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. Look up his promise to sign FOCA."
The BAIPA sought to undermine Roe v. Wade. If Cons were truly in support of BAIPA, they would not piggyback such an important bill with this language.
BTW, infanticide denotes the murdering of infants. Fetuses are not infants. QED
=========
"Twenty years in a racist church, friends with a racist, and a campaign and now presidency that has focused more on race than I have ever seen in my entire 41 years on this earth."
If you loved your Grandma despite of her occasionally racist remarks, does that make you a racist? Do you hate the sin, or the sinner? Are you a salad bar Christian? Are you honestly trying to tell me that race WASN'T an issue in the minds of millions of voters/constituents with soft racist tendencies? PUH-LEASE!
=========
"You cannot refute my facts."
Fact is, I'm reading mostly opinions. Funny, how much they resemble a$$holes.
I've spent enough time in the lions' den. No surprises here, just as there will be no surprises in your shell of a response. Have a nice life!
"(Maybe they just never read Miss Manners.)"
So true.
C'mon, seriously? I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the world to respect these blowhard talking heads.
What weakness are you even referencing in your incoherent comment? You're busy preparing for a war, I'm just trying to have a conversation. But this is why the dialogue will never change.
Silly Mo, I agree, and that was said in jest, but thanks anyway for interjecting yourself. Leftist thought OBVIOUSLY pervades (some) media, Hollywood, and to some extent, the educational system.
I may not agree with your politics, but truth be told, I wouldn't mind having you at my back in a fight.
Thank you for demonstrating how full of hatred and intolerance you are.
Human fetuses are not infants? What are they, then? I'd laugh, if it wasn't so pathetic.
As I thought, not one fact refuted. Goodbye.
These supposed retro posters are all over the left wing blogs and I know, because we have to photoshop their hate speech out of them to return them to their intended use, To now bash Real Fascists with them
Guess morbid curiosity got the better of me. For your benefit, I'll let the dictionary do my refuting:
=========
"Human fetuses are not infants? What are they, then?"
Well Mo, fetuses are fetuses, silly.

Tough break, Mo – you'll get 'em next time!
The guy who wrote/stamped on the printout was a rude jerk. The hilarious thing is some creep in an office was rude to this guy and you're all panicking about concentration camps. And you're the same bold warriors who want to invade every country, spit in the face of every foreign politician you don't like, and secede from the union if you don't get your way. You're absolutely an unstoppable force of nature — unless some minimum wage office assistant is rude to you.
I was thinking the same thing about that poster!
Hey Charles, and everyone else here! Increase the size and resolution of this poster, to a 24"x36" size, print a few thousand and sell them. I think those will make a good showing at the next Tea Parties.
Yes, the past 8 glorious years. Those years where every time I turned on the TV, all I saw on the news was Bush bashing. People saying he had no experience, no intelligence, an abarrasement. Bush horrible, U.S. terrible and on and on and on. Need an example. How about the CNN reporter that called a Bush mask with a Hitler mustache a "look alike" but then the same reporter yelled at a protester for the same type of image of Obama saying they should respect the office. Make's me laugh out loud. There was no respect for the office even in the first 100 days that Bush was in office. They hated him from day one and the news reporting was unabashedly against him. Yes, I remember the last 8 years, only to well.
mr. winecoff, you're amazing. i love that you quoted from "People of the Lie". I've had that book on my mind recently.
It seems as the though cries of calling anyone that disagrees with the president unpatriotic, including those fighting in the sand pit, has simply just been forgotten. I stated that the right has zombies as equally as the left, to say otherwise is irresponsible. So, thank you for missing the thesis of my post and instead trying to find the weakest part of it to attack. Though in response, seeing as my other post has disappeared… In the previous eight years the media was on the administrations side up until they began to have blunder upon blunder. When the president's approval rating was up it was good business to have positive news dealing with him. People want to watch the news that they agree with, I find it doubtful many of you posting here watch Keith Olberman. Then as his approval rating went down as mistakes were made the news began to report negatively towards him, because that is what people want to watch. George Bush was not a liberal republican. A witch hunt? Was it that hard? The Libby affair was brought out in a major newspaper. Was Watergate a witch hunt too, or people acting illegally and getting caught? The fact that the office lied so blatantly is terrible and any one responsible for the lies deserved to look bad, especially the lies that resulted in the death of thousands of our countrymen and women (oh God, not the war! Don't open that can of worms!). See Rob, I did grow up and come to the realization that news is merely a form of entertainment. If you want the truth, then it takes effort and research to find it. Too many people have their information spoon fed to them by sensationalist news programs and become the zombies of the talking heads of their respective station, FOX or MSNBC. I am also aware that every opinion has two sides to it and that absolutes very rarely exist. Your post implies that the right never behaved in a similar manner and I can assure you someone could bring any number of Youtube post to prove you wrong. To Jake, citing one example that has nothing to do with my thesis is silly. Bill O'Reilly, my rebuttal to your post, that's all that's necessary. (Hint, as to my thesis: It says that conservatives are just as guilty as liberals. I do not claim that liberals never spoke down of the office.)
Charles..this by far is the most spot on article I've read in weeks concerning the sense of dread that has decended upon realistic conservative thinkers. I'm one of those at work who happens to have a "Support the Troops" sticker in my cubicle and had the nerve to put up a McCain/Palin button. I'm in AZ so not quite the tempest pot as LA..but man, I find it amusing that I'm pointed out as "the Republican"..as if I might bite. I love asking those I know who voted Obama what they think about Canadian healthcare or the fact that our energy costs were going to "ncessairly skyrocket" under cap & trade….I get blank looks, silence or comments of "I don't know about that" from his supporters. They just fell for the hype and have left us conscience ones to clean up the mess that will be left for generations to clean up. I'd love it if you expanded this article into a book….great read.
Charles, another great read. Well done!
For an article promoting freedom to think, why so many comment deletions by the administrator?!?!? Part of our culture's problem is that people don't know how to deal with criticism: even criticism that is childish, hurtful or unjustified. A thicker emotional hide would do everyone some good. Ignore a fool, but don't stop him from speaking.
I ridicule and mock Obama every chance I get. Most of the people I know love Obama but their arguments are incoherent & unintelligible as to why they worship this slug! And, these are educated people, folks!
I have done my homework; I despise Obama and upon confrontation have a fluid, factual, and logical argument. I haven't "lost" a battle yet with any Obama supporter and I plan not to!
Liberals can't stand for conservatives to stand in solidarity … our reasoning is deafening to the Jackasses! One of the reasons they've launched an all-out campaign to discredit us. If we are embarrassed, we will keep quiet and others on the fringe will be more easily swayed to the fascist camp simply because that's where the "cool" kids are going!
Not a chance, for me! I am proud to be conservative … and I challenge any libby to a duel of words and ideology!
If you did that to an Obamabot, you would be a racist
[...] DENIED: Bigotry of the Obamatrons [...]
Boo – f'n- hoo.
Come on guys, let's be honest. Dave here is about as fair and balanced as you get in these comments. Both sides have said and done great things, both sides have said and done bad things. Harry Reid shouldn't have declared that the US had lost the war, Ann Coulter shouldn't have called dissenters treasonists…and on and on and on.
Thanks Dave, for providing a litle sanity in this left-right, blue-red, liberal-conservative sniping.
OMG!!! I can't believe how well this article summed up how how I feel about America today. How I despair that today's young people are being brainwashed and the amount of hypocritical double-speak I hear everyday now coming from Washington. It's scary because most people don't see it, or don't want to see it.

I have an uphill battle to do the same here in Australia. It is due to the liberal media over here that people believe that this know-nothing is a professor and that he is really intelligent – NOT!!. I have a degree in Economics. My degree is really quite mediocre, but I do know more than that jerk, even though I did my study in the 1970s and have not been in practice or been really watching the economics elsewhere.
The real big lie is the one about Obama being a law professor. People in Australia really do believe it. However, what is really irksome is even the more conservative folks have fallen for the crap about how good it is to have a black president and proclaim this street organizer as wonderful….. pass the sick bag please.
hmm… I missed seeing the comment. Was it from BHO or his offsider Rambo?
three cheers for Lola. Great comments. You are so right about fascism. It is not just in the USA but it is everywhere.
I might be in the age group that would not like South Park, but guess what, I discovered that these guys really know a thing or two, and they get it …. most of the time.
I have not seen that particular episode but I saw the ones about having a Prius and the cloud (which started with a George Clooney acceptance speech at the Academy Awards). I have seen the episodes dedicated to Al Bore … oops I mean Gore… and then there was the ever so rude and funny episode about Oprah Winfrey… it was crude but I could not stop laughing….
I hope that the creators of South Park will be willing to take on the Obamatrons…….
yes the real Hitler is Obama
I have not read either Fahrenheit451 or the Invasion of the Body Snatchers, however I have read 1984 and believe me, it has arrived. In the year 1984 the press were so sneering in their claims that the content of the book had not come true, but the missed the point entirely.
There is another book, and I cannot remember its name… I barely remember very much of the plot except that it involved some things that have also come true today including IVF procedures and artificial insemination so that men are no longer necessary in the mating process. From what I remember (I read the book 40 years ago), the people were rather lawless (anarchists). Today I continue to remember snippets of that book and think about how some of the author's ideas have in fact come true.
!984 is the most relevant especially when you consider that Big Brother would announce that one side was at war with another, and there was the ministry of thought etc. etc. I guess I need to find my copy and read it again. All I know is that right now we are experiencing many of the things that Orwell predicted, including the changing the meaning of words: read terrorism and the change to man caused disaster ROFL. (it is only one example). Other attempted changes have been going on in a smaller scale. I find myself bucking against those changes
It is not just in America that this is happening. Ever since the election of Krudd we have seen the Kruddites in action. It is the same hateful attitude towards those of us who are more centrist and conservative in thought. The article is an excellent summary of what is happening in workplaces etc around the world.
Just West of Hollywood, in Santa Monica, things are just as bad. The self-righteous leftist mantras that I hear at work are unbelievable; it truly feels like we share a common physiological make-up but otherwise we are from different galaxies. The assumption that everybody comes from the same galaxy is amazing…
I wouldn't be fired for speaking out, but my work projects depend too much on those alien creatures. I just can't afford to "offend" them. I need the job and my family needs the health-insurance, so I shut up.
"Critical thinking"? Your defintion isn't the same as theirs.
Does this sound familiar? "You believe in freedom of speech for communists because what they say is true. You do *not* believe in freedom of speech for fascists because what they say is a lie." –John Howard Lawson, head and cultural commissar of the Hollywood division of the American Communist Party, instructing the rest of the Hollywood 10. From "Odd Man Out: A Memoir of the Hollywood Ten" by Edward Dmytryk
Even in Asia, this is true of westerners that I have met. They want to jam their opinions down your throat and react viciously if you resist. Well, I slammed back publicly and humiliatingly at the jammer, who retreated. Now everyone knows where I stand and try to force-feed me at their own peril. Silence is not an option. DENIED and GO HOME are fighting words. Bring it on.
Puppet Masters by Robert A. Heinlein is the text we've been following since 9/11. The left is just the (appropriately enough) Red Zone.

If you want to have some fun w/ this element, it's very easy to turn this element against each other. They tend to be malicious people and are often very status conscious.
Just start a whispering campaign that so and so's sister is religious, or that they you'd heard them call someone a spic, or whatever else will set things off.
Keep a few of these accusations going for a little while and before too things will start to blow up as they use these accusations to jockey for social dominance.

Dear Charles,
I just found your blog via your interview in frontpagemag.com. I loved the interview and I really enjoy your blog – (I've been reading your past entries also). I can relate to where you have come from regarding the constant bombardment from the media while growing up. Most of us have been indoctrinated. And yes, we do evolve into "conservatives" if we are open-minded and have a little something called common sense. I used to be a fiscally conservative, socially liberal Democrat who was always concerned about national security. As Reagan said, I did not leave the Democrat Party, They left me.
Welcome to the non-Left. I hope you make some very interesting new friends and enjoy yourself.
