I've got a news flash for the liberal insurgents and their media friends who scorned the Tea Party crowds. The local news coverage was far more positive in countless cities – because they're more directly accountable and in touch with their audience, and less prone to insult them. They took the time to check out the Tea Parties and talk to participants before preparing their narrative (in most cases). Unlike MSNBC or CNN's clown here in Chicago.

It's not going away. It's going to be their worst nightmare – a real grassroots movement rather than astroturf stagecraft by a PR team to create the illusion of a political power mandate with vague platitudes to get elected. We'll be back … We're not the unhealthy mutants who Axelrod perceived. They're the specious ones at risk of being selected out of the political gene pool at our first opportunity if they keep scorning Americans this way.

There's a difference between a natural elite and a self-selecting elite, IMHO. The latter is what we have in Washington — "I got elected so I must be important."

Some people are genuinely special. A lot of the rest simply have swelled heads.

People used to make fun of the way Madden stuttered and tended to restate the obvious. What nobody knew was that that was actually an incredible feat of self-control — apparently, back in the days when he was still coaching, he tended to pepper every sentence out of his mouth with enough curse words to startle a Marine.

If the FCC had allowed him to cuss on TV, you'd have gotten some really insightful commentary from him — but hell, the guy's a mensch.

I'm stuck in the wilds of Northern California. But there's always Southern California. Wait–they're just as bad. Never mind. We're screwed. But at least we don't have to worry about losing elections, because that's inevitable. I suppose there's a certain comfort in that (not!). We have some great politicians, but they can't command anything larger than a rural or suburban district. Statewide, we can still have hope–which Laura Schlesinger described as "deferred disappointment." It's up to you, Texas! We gave you Reagan, and that won't be easy to top.
