Well said. You nailed it in six frames.
Yup, i'd definitely go after him for not being married…..shoulda done the whole proposal thing a ways earlier in the relationship……
Corey-Borey
Not getting married until the girlfriend's pregnant is CLASSY? Sure.
Lots of money and sophistication, old enough to know better but living in fear of being judged by Jon Stewart and the ladies of "The View."
They live next door, ugh.
Does this mean that the libertarian wing of the party, which doesn't give a hoot about marriage, is now dead?
IMO, I think its a social commentary, not a party plank.
What libertarian wing of which party?
I think that would be the "troll wing"
"Why is it the only people with class are in the middle"
???
That is such a tired bromide. I think it's time we start holding all those in "the middle" accountable. You'd better not step too far to the left or right or we'll pound you with the hypocrite club. Better not have an issue about which you feel passionately. We're gonna nail you for it.
What, you couldn't make a normal White couple or something?
I have three letters for you, you twisted creep: PJB
What's PJB?

Look what the cat drug in, it really stinks bad! What's wrong, Staphy? Couldn't get in a dig about Israel?
Big Hollywood Comment Sections: Unintentionally proving moderate-conservative bloggers right since 2008
I'm not really a big fan of the "graphic novel", so I'm not sure I get this.
She's a democrat and he's a republican? A metaphorical "mixed marriage"?
One thing: we have to work harder to separate political conservatism from social conservatism. They aren't even compatible on the level of public policy. I'm not "in the middle" politically or socially, but it isn't the government's job to legislate morality for either the left or the right.
So, I guess I'm seeing the author's point as kind of irrelevant. What does "middle class" mean in this context?
Please stop giving Stafford more negative reputaion. It feeds him.
Patrick J Buchanan has a host of demented posters at H.E. Check out the "not so hidden" vibe. Absolutely repulsive.
Yeah, a moderate would not like this cartoon! lol.
Mine would go after me because we're not married
Really? Marriage before getting knocked up is now an "extreme" position?
Your'e probably right, just can't help myself sometimes when I see a piece of human offal like him try to spout some BS as truth…. : )
Good cartoon, spot on in fact.
Not sure why some are confused with the marraige aspect of the cartoon…
I guess it is just another example of how ideologues, as they poke their collective noses into private lives, rarely recognize their transgressions against those with different ideas.
And how many thumbs down will I get for this? Depends on how many ideologues stop by and get their knickers in a bunch.
Oh, yeah…posters on that site give links to white supremacists ( all "cleaned up") and lots of conspiracy theorists. They find Pat's new found pacifism fits right into their antisemitic construct. Pat, himself, is not on the site among his fans. They say they are "third party forever" and will never vote for a Republican again (and cover themselves by including Democrats.)
Sorry, I don't get it. The man isn't scared to bring a child into this world, but he is scared by the idea that he's expected to marry the mother?
I take the "in the middle" comment here to refer to the unborn baby in the picture (who is literally "in the middle" of both parties in that frame). This I can wholeheartedly agree with: of all Americans, only the unborn are truly classy. This, in a nutshell, is the premise of my ongoing unborn child/ zombie/ robot/ sci-fi webcomic, "Ulysses The Undead" (http://www.ulyssesundead.com).
It's absolutely the government's job to "legislate morality." That's why we have laws against murder and theft.
It's also why Dear Leader was able to push through Cap & Trade… because we have a "moral imperative" to protect the environment, right?
If the cartoon strip had been truly moderate, Muir would be getting hits from both left and right. So far, he's getting hits only from the right, for belittling this business of expecting marriage before pregnancy. Hits he deserves.
Draw your own conclusions about how moderate this is.
I dub thee … parody troll.
Not entirely accurate. It's the government's job to protect our God-given rights as free human beings. And while you are correct that every law that exists is in some way legislated morality, the important difference is that it is also made to protect our rights from being infringed upon. The laws exist to stop your rights from infringing on mine and vice versa. Therefore, you have freedom of religion right up until your religion calls for something like slavery or human sacrifice or stoning for adultery – all of which infringe on the rights of others. So we have laws protecting the rights of those other parties who may not want to be your slave or your sacrifice or your stoning victim.
If the law simply reinforces a moral belief without also protecting a basic right, then it is legislating morality.
I haven't weighed in on this because I've been thinking about it. I am a little irked by the shot at the right, and I've been reading and re-reading this trying to get exactly what is intended. So here's my take:
I can't tell from the drawing's how pregnant the girlfriend is. It's seems to me she isn't extremely pregnant, so it may be that the couple haven't know about this situation long, and I can't recall having seen the subject come up before in other panels. If that's the case, then it may be a relatively new situation to the couple. In which case, is it an unintended pregancy which would lead me to believe that they're talking about sex before marriage and shacking up? In which case, I'd say, umm, lighten up. I don't know of too many on the right that loudly condemn that even if they don't strictly approve. And frankly, he did the right thing by popping the question and making a commitment which is at the end of the day the thing most conservatives are most worried about.
Ah, I see. Still, while the antisemitism may be a common Buchananite trait, I've never really associated them with racism.
"My party would attack me if our child was disabled."
What?
…poke their collective noses into private lives…
Well, if the crotch-fruit of unwed parents had no effect on society then you would be justified at the nose-poking. But everyone else has to live with the consequences of these actions.
Here's a taste The Taxpayer Cost of Divorce and Unwed Childbearing

I for one am offended that they are tall, slender and attractive. Why couldn't they be short, fat and ugly…like me!
After all there are more of us (S.F.U. people) than there are of the tall and attractive.
Good Lord! Don't any of you folks read webcomics? There's tens of thousand of them! Day by Day is only one of my favorites with a story line that deserves several graphic novels. Most of the best ones started as simple pencil drawings clear back in the 1999-2000 days and evolved into some startling stories. Start with DbD and start at the beginning, follow the links if you dare, you probably won't be sorry… except for the time wasted of course.
And so serious! Folks… it's a comic strip, not carved on stone or anything. Lighten up a bit before you all get ulcers. God knows the Big O will be handing enough of those out already.
Lighten up? Premarital sex is one of the worst things to infect our culture. It's left us with broken families, a massive increase in STDs, and a general desensitizing of all forms of sexual misconduct. We could do with a WHOLE lot less lightening up on this subject. You're right, alot on the right don't loudly condemn it. Heck, alot practice it. Doesn't mean it should be excused as something only "prudes"-as those with sexual morals are often called-condemn. But yeah, he did do the right thing by proposing. That's not the issue though. The strips implication that those with a sense of decency and honor are right-wing wackos is. To compare believing pre-marital sex is wrong to believing that disabled babies should be aborted is just plane wrong.
I'd say there is a big difference between pre-marital sex and loose sex. Sex is something that is precious and should be treated that way because it is an act that potentially creates life. Too often, our culture devalues and debases it as something that is to be completely divorced as much as from the consequence or incidence of procreation. Prior to the birth control pill and the sexual revolution that really wasn't possible. I would prefer that we restore it to an act of reverence and potential creation to be respected and enjoyed with someone you are deeply and preferably permanently committed to, but before we ask for everything (marriage), we need to take those first few steps back on the road to where we wish we could be.
Looks like a completely unbaised report to me… lol
I don't know how he could've drawn it any clearer. The parents seem rather pleased with their "crotch fruit". But instead of seeing the beauty of two people who care about each other, expressing happiness at their future, you choose to be one of the very people he is writing about.
Kudos to you!
I think that the metaphor here is that he..being black, she being white…and on top of it all…He is a Republican…she is a Democrat. Reverse roles I guess. But then I get lost when he is worried about .."not being married"??? Cons, I think don't really have such a problem with that. We have a broad realization that lives are quite complex these days and that you must not be sooo serious about small stuff. Yes we live a higher moral ground…but come on…I will not pretend to be mightier than thou. S**t happens. You deal with it. Liberals are the one's that see "COLOR"…so it is they who would see the couple for what they are , a mixed couple. THEY are the racists. Cons see people for there Spirit and Individuality. For how kind they are. Unfortunately race does exist in this Country. In both parties. MOSTLY on the LEFT! The State Run Media throws in the kook right(white supremacists) into our side. Well of course, they vote Repub. Nothing we can do about that. Oh well, I think I have rambled myself into silliness here. By for now.
