Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

levis. the kick-a** jeans of every generation.
am i the only one who thinks these "tea parties" are ineffectual and cute? I mean, sales tax is being paid on the tea bought to throw into the water…
You know, if everyone who attended one of these tea parties would then go home and fill out a new W-4 form, so that their payroll tax withholdings were reduced to zero or near zero, it would not take long to make a real difference and get some attention.
Yes, yes you are. This is not about sales tax, this is a polite form of protesting a tyrannical non-responsive government that involves neither torches nor tar. We have very few options left due to the lack of a free and open press. We are also banned from engaging in protests allowable by liberals such as rioting and looting, which is in clear violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act since the primary factor in this illegal denial of rights is the majority of willing protesters are pigmentally-challenged.
In any case, these tea parties are a temporary thing, as the federal government (read Obama) will soon ban them. Greenpeace will complain the tea bags will choke dolphins, the Sierra Club will complain about the water pollution, and Al Gore will advise that the tea-darkened waters will absorb more sunlight thus hasten global warming. Although if we ask His Majesty nicely, perhaps he will allow a cap-and-trade permit for tea emissions at a mere $2 million per event. Although I think we could mount a legal challenge to that, we're obviously helping the environment by keeping a carbon-containing substance far away from waste incinerators.
It would certainly draw the IRS's attention, they get snippy if you're not paying enough withholding before return time, which may indeed lead to a change, of scenery, as viewed through iron bars.
That's kinda like tyranny, specifically mentioned in the first and second amendments,I can guarantee you,the US military will side with constitutionalists, not dems.
oh, and just say no to crack…(yeah, i know. patti = killjoy)
Too bad the 16th Amendment is in there, although the way it's applied you'd think the 13th would apply.
Remember, extortion is only legal when the government does it!
The original Boston Tea Party was ineffectual and cute too. Adorable little buckskin outfits, feathers and bad makeup. In fact, it was a complete failure, except for setting the stage for the Revolution to come. The tea tax was rather minimal, unlike today's, but it was an infringement on the inherent rights of the people to be represented and consent to the tax. And Parliament merely replaced the tea tax with some other minimal taxes. The current tea parties aren't about the money alone. They're about oppressive government attempting to tax us into submission. They're about getting the attention of the out-of-touch powers in DC. Indications are that the protests are getting the attention of the powers-that-be, locally and nationally. And this despite all the attempts of the MSM to minimize their impact or ignore them entirely.
King George and the Parliament knew that with all their wealth and power, this ragtag bunch of colonials could never succeed in their opposition. But the patriots had a wealth of righteous indignation and the power of an idea which could not be denied–liberty. King Barack and the Congress probably think the same way. Unless they've changed history, I believe the Sons of Liberty ultimately lost the first skirmish but won the war.
SORRY: Duplicate post. I tried twice to delete the duplicate, but I give up.
great points, Lawhawk, I guess my point is that i'm sure congress [if they even pay attention to the tea parties] gets a chuckle out of them. I mean, go to the grocery store, pay tax on the tea bags that you will use in order to protest taxes?, not that i'm promoting stealing tea bags…… I do get the symbolic gesture, and i think there are a lot of us that are pissed off, I tend to think the withholding of taxes would have more impact, hit them where it hurts… maybe not reduced to zero… but close….
I'm with you. I want to hit them everywhere it hurts. The advantage of the tea parties is that they get attention, and are the symbol of a mass movement. It will take a genuine, nationwide, organized agreement among all protesters that we won't pay our taxes before we can pull the big one off. Otherwise the feds can pick us off a few at a time, release a few murderers and terrorists, and make room in the federal prisons for us. I'm all for the idea, but it's going to take a much larger, more vocal, and completely united movement to pull of the tax boycott. But I'm not saying it couldn't be done.
