TRAILER PREMIERE: ‘Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’
by Carl Kozlowski[Ed. Note: Big Hollywood is proud to be among only a handful of film sites chosen to premiere the new "Narnia" trailer: "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," which won't be officially released until Friday. Carl has more below. ]
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader Official Teaser Trailer
Rising above the crowd of mediocre and anti-Christian messages of much Hollywood fare, the first two filmed installments of C.S. Lewis’ epic “Chronicles of Narnia” series – 2005’s “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” and 2008’s “Prince Caspian” – were bracing reminders that family entertainment could also be inventive and exciting. Marrying top-notch special effects with timeless storytelling that was rich in Christian allegory, both films proved to be wildly successful examples of what Hollywood should be making more often.
Now, the third installment of the series – “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” – is destined for release this Christmas, and 20th Century Fox has shown its appreciation for the Christian audience by offering the film’s trailer first – a full day ahead of major secular outlets like Yahoo, IMDB and AOL – to the readers and fans that frequent 150 faith-based online and television outlets.
The exciting third chapter in the series sails for adventure with the fantastic Narnian ship, the Dawn Treader. Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace and royal friend King Caspian, are swallowed into a painting and onto the Dawn Treader. Per the breathless press release, “as they embark on an incredible adventure of destiny and discovery, they confront obstacles beyond imagination.”
Besides showing Christian and conservative sites thanks and respect for all their support, Fox is hoping to stir up excitement among those core audiences and give them something to look forward to amid this lackluster summer season. Open this trailer now, and remember to return the favor by checking out the film when it really opens big December 10.

I will so be there opening day. A midnight showing if possible.
It's hilarious how 20th Century is trying to backpedal with almost chicago thuggish styling to woo back audiences when they tried to make the movie a "summer tent pole" w/ the second one. Unlike other sequels I remember how much weaker it performed and was then wondering if they'd continue for it~
Not an opening day for me sadly for it…
Excellent movies. This third of the series should be a stunner if the graphics are this great throughout the film.
It's sort of sad that the effects seem so…commonplace now. Fine for kids, I'm sure, but a major case of the I've-seen-this-before-itis for this old hag. That Harry Potter kid gets a three-week jump on Narnia this time around as his penultimate flick come out mid-November…it'll be interesting to see if Harry' still got it worldwide, although I also lost interest in those movies several sequels back.
Disney, not Fox, distributed the first two. (the mouse quickly dumped the series after "Caspian.") So Fox is trying to rekindle interest in a franchise after a 2 1/2-year lapse in the audience's hearts & minds. I'll bite, though: how is that "Chicago thuggish styling?"
I will be there and I'll see it more than once. The trailer looks great.
But quite frankly even bad C.S. Lewis is better than most of the garbage that comes out of Hollywood these days!
Hoorah for a series like this to be able to pull out a third great looking piece of work. Four more to go, right?
It looks great, go here for a 1080p version.

If they're releasing it to sites like this and faith-based ones, why is the hi-def version on YouTube?
Looks cool. Caspian was a bit boring, but my daughter still loved it. I'll take this over most of the crap that's out this summer. If they do it right, it should be really good. If not, it'll still be worth seeing.
Maybe greater viewer traffic.
Dawn Treader (I always thought it was pronounced Dawn "Tree-der") tells so many stories within stories: the monopods, Eustace and the dragon's lair, Reepicheep…and the trailer makes it seem that they've included the best bits in the movie.
Eustace needed hope when he'd never had any; the rest of us could use some hope now, I'm sure. Forgiveness, redemption, courage: the movie will be entertaining, but (like the original C.S. Lewis book) offers a glimpse of so much more.
Wow~ sorry, jumping in without facts is a bad thing I've fallen into when insta posting. Even when I was typing out 20th~ It sounded kinda wrong.. but I still barreled on.
I was all in the birthers bandwagon in regards to the presidente, but was constantly getting conflicting reports about it. Out of all that mess though, one thing stood out Every time. His ties with the Chicago Unions and their "Thuggish" ways that has infected his time in office. Therefore; I equated Disney "busting" into the summer with what they thought was perfect for it Despite the great returns from the winter release.
Good luck to 20th~
I'm good for 5 tickets on the 10th and the Blu-ray already!
.
Yes, by Christmas we will sorely need a bit of inspiration in our national journey. And maybe a miraculous guide out of the dark islands.

I can't wait for this. I think the reason the second movie didn't perform as well is that Prince of Caspian was already a thin story to begin with and most CS Lewis fans knew that. Then they made it a summer film instead of a holiday film. And then everyone who followed the news about the movie heard they changed some of the story to "modernize" it. When talking about classics, modernizing never excites. The added raid on the castle scene and the love interest between Caspian and Susan, we knew it was coming and it served to quell those waiting for a true recreation of the source material.
Still, I loved Prince Caspian about as much as Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe and it sounds like (and looks like) that Dawn Treader aims to make the movie as CS Lewis would have made the movie, as his story originally was told. Plus, it's a richer story, so it naturally gives to a more robust movie experience.
We're good for seven tickets, opening night, popcorn and drinks for all! I hope this movie roars at the box office.
There's a ton of Facebook buttons about Edmund. Girls are collecting Edmund buttons instead of Edward or Harry buttons. I think the 2 year wait has only increased the appetite for this movie. We'll see in December.
I have been greatly looking forward to this film. Out of all the Narnia books, Dawn Treader has ALWAYS been my favorite. I must have read this hundreds of times as a kid.
Trailer looks good. It has some stiff competition in the Potter movie coming out around the same time. I'm afraid this will NOT be as big, but it should still do very well.
I may break down and actually go to the theater to see this movie….maybe even opening day.

Thank you. The version posted here kept crashing Safari. Or rather the freakin' flash plug-in it used kept crashing Safari.
This is one I really want to see. Should be great.

I'll play hookey from work to see this premiere! Can't wait.
The problem with Caspian was quite simple: they rewrote much of the story. When will Hollywood screenwriters figure out that they probably aren't as talented as the classic novelists they presume to "improve"?
As an avid reader of the series, Prince Caspian was my least favorite, and I thought that the story was wanting compared to the other books. I'm assuming that lots of Narnia readers feel the same. Because of that, I was not surprised to see the movie didn't do well and was scared they'd chicken out with the rest. I'm really excited about this one and will actually go to the theater to see it!.
This movie will do well despite a concerted effort by the atheistic Leftwing that it fail. They have never forgiven us for the debacle that was the Golden Compass.
Agreed, I remember when I read the series as a kid that most of the book was walking through woods. And when I would reread th eseries, I would skip those parts. Due to it being my least favorite in the series, I was scared that the "powers that be" would quit if Prince Caspian the movie didn't do well. I'm so glad I was wrong.
Ditto. I've read the series a couple of times, but I skim through Prince Caspian every time. It was really…meh…compared to the rest of the series.
Though as strega2010 said above, the first two films were released by Disney, not Fox.
I agree. The movie was actually better than the book, if you can believe that. Not that I thought the movie was so bad. I liked it!
Yes, I rememeber, just flipping through the woods scenes. Which were like 5 chapters? LOL Felt like half the book.
Yeah. It was almost as frustrating as reading through the Council of Elrond part in Fellowship of the Ring. You just go "COME ON!" after a while as you're reading it.
Definitely a midnight Cinemark XD screening.
I loved this book.
[...] those who care, the folks over at BIGHOLLYWOOD have a (relatively) exclusive trailer for Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn [...]
Probably just 2 or maybe 3 – extremely unlikely that "A Horse and His Boy" will ever get made – and I'm guessing that "The Magician's Nephew" will only get made if the remaining films are mega-blockbusters.
I liked "Caspian" (but then I think it is geared toward boys). I thought the weakest were, in order, "The Horse And His Boy" and then "The Magician's Nephew".
OH I hope, hope, hope they also release a 2D version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must confess I am less than enthusiastic about this offering. The first movie was good, but Caspian was not so much. Hope they do the book justice, there is alot to it.
Must be so, cause those are my two faves and in the same order. LOL
I cannot wait. IMHO, This is the best book of the Narnia series. I am glad Fox took it over, and it looks like they will do justice to the story.
My family will be seeing this when it opens. We liked both the previous films. Prince Caspian was good, but had a tall order to stack up against the first. My family liked Caspian better after we saw it on dvd actually..Second time was the charm.
I've got a conservative movie/tv review blog at http://hollywoodpropaganda.wordpress.com
Check it out, and if you like it pass it on!
Having just seen the trailer for the live action Smurfs movie coming out next summer, I plan on seeing this one at least 3 times now. I think that Big Hollywood needs to post up the trailer for Smurfs here. I'm curious how many other people saw it and thought, "Great, it looks like they are making it 'edgier' which in Hollywood land mean trashy. There tagline is something about next summer prepare to be "smurf'd". Not prepare for a "smurfy summer", but rather something alludes to swearing. Not to mention the disturbing "Wild Thang/Smurf la la song" mash up that goes on. Ugh….
Narnia looks like solid family entertainment though, Thank God.
I'm a girl and I love "The Horse and His Boy"!
I don't know how Hollywood could legitimize "The Last Battle" – when it's about Aslan's return, Armageddon, and the "new Narnia" (read, "new heaven and new earth").
Not to mention, the loss of salvation from a major character. (sad face!)
It's the best of the Narnia Chronicles, but the kind that Hollywood shuns.
Yeah, "The Last Battle" would be pretty tough, particulary the Susan part – it might help that she won't (shouldn't) be in Dawn Treader or Silver Chair – that always pained me when I was younger, but it's a brave and honest touch on Lewis's part.
But if the series makes it through Silver Chair (for my money, the Empire Strikes back of the Narnia series, dark and pretty scary, in a lonely hopeless way) I can't imagine the producers shrinking from wrapping things up with The Last Battle. The vast majority of the audience knows how the story ends already, they just want to see it brought to life on screen. Hopefully in a way that's true to the books. But yeah, I can see Hollywood trying to drastically alter it.
"The Silver Chair" is a very intense, edge-of-your-seat Narnian tale!
LOVE it!!
With all the "Prince Caspian" bashing (and really, I know you're not BASHING-bashing…), I thought I'd defend it.
The film has grown on me.
The most important part of the tale is Lucy's ability to see Aslan. Both Peter and Susan, on the edge of young adulthood, are finding firm ground in their own self-worth. Not necessarily an arrogant belief, but they've already "lived" as adults in another world – they know who they are in their own world.
Lucy, meanwhile, completely understands that the only reason they're in Narnia is because Aslan has a purpose for them. And yet – where is he? Edmund, being the "prodigal" brother, is humbled enough to realize she's right.
Caspian's role as Narnian defender is questioned more by Caspian himself when the Kings and Queens of Narnia arrive on the scene. When Peter naturally assumes lordship, it's because he was already placed as High King – not because Caspian isn't Narnian.
Caspian as insecure defender of Narnia? Peter forgetting that he was chosen by Aslan?
Until they attack the castle – and consequently fail – does Peter realize his mistake: he relied on his own human strength, rather than following the will of Aslan.
The subsequent "romance" between Susan and Caspian is sweet, if not predictable. And we all know it.
The only thing that bothered me was Andrew Adamson's view that, like Tolkien, C.S. Lewis wrote that the Earth was having its vengeance on mankind for global-warming. Too bad you can't edit that stuff out of the DVD-commentary.
Pst! Andrew! Lewis was writing on Christianity, which has nothing to do with saving the earth. Worship the Creator. Not the creation.
All right. I'm done. Thanks for letting me have my say.
PS: I just went to IMDB and noticed that David Arnold has replaced Harry Gregson-Williams for the film's score.
Bummer.
I defy anyone to try and stop me from going. =D
The problem of course is that this is not C. S. Lewis' "Voyage of the Dawn Treader." That is obvious from the trailer alone. I am not saying it won't be great story; I am saying the book is a whole new realm of delights. I think we are too hung up on the political and international; read "That Hideous Strength" if you want that. The most political and international of the Narnia books are "A Horse and His Boy" and "The Last Battle."
The movie looks like it was done right. If they get the Dark Island right, well, it will be a terror at least for that part of the tale. I am up for it– I am pretty sure they can't do any worse than they did for Prince Caspian, and that turned out okay even if they left out a lot of the best parts.
At least I have one decent movie to see this Christmas! I loved LWW and, except for that bizarre romance scene, Caspian so I have very high hopes. It was such an amazing book.
I will have no issues deciding between this & Harry Potter which I dropped about 4 sequels ago.
Smurfs really? They are scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I have to admit I'm a little nervous. I loved the LWW movie, but thought they did grave disservice to both storyline and characters in "Prince Caspian." Now in this trailer we somehow have the White Witch, or a vision of her, appearing? What was that about? Curious why Susan and Peter appear at the end of the trailer as well. I'm just wondering, "What did they decide to mess with?" I hope not much.
The Golden Compass: Welcome to the wonderful magical world of atheism where we believe in everything but God. I was happy to see that one tank, but I was also surprised that it did so poorly.
Me too!
