NBC’s ObamaVision Causes Facebook Brawl

It all seemed to start so simply, as I watched this week’s “SNL” and saw an NBC in-house commercial bragging about how all this week’s Thursday night comedies will be packed with environmental propaganda, including an appearance from Al Gore on “30 Rock.” So I hopped on my Facebook account and wrote the following response before heading out for the next 10 hours:
“So NBC’s bragging that all their Thursday comedies will be pro-green propaganda this Thursday, so much that Al Gore’s gonna guest on ‘30 Rock”?! Ugh. OK I’ll do my part – by throwing out my television. (Not a fan of Al, in case you can’t tell. Find the story of why i hate him buried amid my blog topics at americasfunniestreporter.com.)”
Three friends commented quickly afterwards in support of me. But then, two others – a former boss from a Chicago magazine named Jane, and an acquaintance who’s a public school teacher living in Whittier – chimed in to express their disagreement. Caught in the middle was one of my best friends and co-host of my weekly Internet talk show “Grand Theft Audio,” Jake Belcher.
The roundelay that developed over the rest of the day seemed worthy of pointing out to a broader audience, for to me it shows just how ingrained the PC, ‘love the left no matter what’ mindset can be in some people, who will even assume that there’s just no way to make a living while being outspoken about having a conservative, or “right-wing,” viewpoint in today’s Hollywood. It also shows just how scary it is that a schoolteacher in our publicly funded classrooms is so hidebound to a leftist ideology and is likely teaching them that mindset each and every day.
Forthwith, some highlights (or lowlights) from the exchange, coupled with my final response in defense of speaking up for a conservative mindset…

MONICA: Just Curious, how does a right-wing comic survive in Los Angeles? Do you use some of your political views in your stand up? Truly, I am baffled by your views. I know your from Arkansas, and these views are probably more widely accepted there, but I just can’t see it going over so well in Los Angeles.
JANE: Carl I adore you. But…. actual hate and anger doesn’t get laughs. It’s uncomfortable and scary, not really entertaining. So I’m guessing that your conservative comedy pokes fun at right wingers as well Is that how you do ok for yourself in LA?
JAKE: Jane, what did Carl write above that could possibly scare you? And Monica, Carl does very well with his views, not everyone blindly follows the same Ideology. Nice assumption on the fine citizens of Arkansas, no hate coming from you on that. To everyone. I think people need to get a fucking grip on reality. People are still allowed to have … different views from each other, free speech fear mongers. Fear of expression is one of the ways Hitler gained and kept his power. Every time you see or hear a viewpoint that is different than yours you should thank God that you live in a land that has such freedom.
MONICA: Your projection tactics do not work here!
JAKE: Oh well, yours seem to be working just fine. Wonder why that is? Oh yeah, avoidance of the point. That helps ALOT.
MONICA: I might not agree with Carl on some issues, but it does not mean I do not think he is funny. Personally, I do not find the word hate funny, that’s just me. No comic is funny 100% of the time! See the late shows, some stuff doesn’t work. Watching a bad joke is like watching a plane plummet to its impending doom! Still curious if this talk works. Obama being compared to Hitler, Now that’s funny!
JAKE: Sorry, no, I compared your line of thinking with Hitlers.
MONICA: When a person has uncomfortable thoughts or feelings, they may project these onto other people, assigning the thoughts or feelings that they need to repress to a convenient alternative target. Goodnight, Belcher.

CARL: Wow, i can’t believe I missed all this excitement! First off, thank you jake for having my back.
Now, Jane, as someone who’s the mother of two boys, you ought to know that “hate” is a euphemism for “can’t stand”. To scold me for saying i hate Al Gore, or spinach, is ridiculous. What are we living in, “Little House on the Prairie”? And yes, i make fun of both sides, though I’m happy and proud to dish it out to the left more, when there’s 6 million other comics all saying the same thing on the other side of the fence. Oh really – comics hate Bush? I still hear that shit a full year AFTER Obama got elected! (not that i was a big Bush fan, either.) I have had more breaks happen in the past year since coming out of the coservative closet than ever before (actually libertarian – im’ for drug legalization and gay marriage, and have opposed our involvement in the Middle East since the FIRST Gulf War – an antiwar position shared by Pat Buchanan,its’ not just a hippie thing to oppose war, there are different philosophical reasons for it).
Monica, grow up. It’s sad to think that you’re part of the problem in our schools, where only one side is taught anymore , the left. To both you and Jane, I would gladly make less money and know that I spoke my conscience in this lifetime, even if there were consequences, than to shut up or tell lies as i see it. Besides, Monica, you’ve never come and seen me perform anyway, so what am i missing by your being baffled? i don’t get very political onstage, but i don’t deny or hide my views either, there or anywhere else.
Are you both seriously going to tell me you, as committed liberals, never felt or expressed “hate” for Bush or Republicans? Monica, are you seriously expecting those with different views to just sit down and shut up? Maybe that works in your classroom,but as the son of a man who fled Communist Poland and the grandson of a man who died fighting the Nazis at Normandy, I’ll be damned if I ever keep quiet about any injustice I see, especially in the form of propaganda for Al Gore,a man who whored his dead sister’s memory for votes and made millions off tobacco, the product that killed her, for a decade after her death – only selling his interest in the family crop when he ran for VP and it got too politically “messy” to keep it. Now he wants to reinvent the American economy with “green” schemes that he personally makes billions off of, while spending 20x more energy in his home than the average American. By the way, his college grades were worse than W’s .

Oh I'm familiar with those Facebook brawls. Quite innocently I "became a fan" of Sarah Palin right before I left for vacation. Because I don't consider it a vacation if I'm checking e-mail, etc. I didn't go back on my page for almost a week. You wouldn't believe the crap I got for admitting publically that I liked Sarah. Well, I guess considering what you went through you would. I come to this blog and a couple of other places to vent politics. I had basically kept my FB page "clean." But I soon found out that if you don't toe the line, the folks on the left will come down on you like a ton of bricks. I got at least a dozen snarky comments to some downright insulting private messages. The worst was something to the effect of "I thought you were an intelligent person, but I might have to re-think that." Mind you, this came from a "friend." As the old saying goes, with friends like these…
the environmental movement is BS at its best. We have the richest and powerful telling US how to live, work, behave and play. Kiss my NY arse. This is America. You do not tell those who keep you in biz how to live. These people pollute more than all of us combined. I'll shut up, but they will have to run me down with their private jet first.
I lost a friend because of my Conservative FaceBook updates (links to Bill Whittle, National Review, and so forth). For a while he felt the need to note, on posts that had nothing to do with politics, how he 'disagreed with me on lots of things', but he could agree with me on this totally innocuous point such as the sky being blue or water being wet. I suspect this was for the benefit of his many left-wing friends who would be shocked – shocked! – that one of their true-blue comrades would associate … with a RIGHT-WINGER!!
I don't let it bother me. When I finally decided that I had to be honest with myself and profess my Conservatism, I realized I would lose friends. But it's like the old saying: sure beer kills brain cells. But only the weak ones. If you have friends that are so closed-minded, so incapable of rational thought or handling opposing ideas that their response to your Conservatism is to scream in fear or belittle you, you're better off without them.
Hypocritical be-otches. See, Al Gore is part of the reason why liberal women are so callous, rough, and bitter…they need to yank the recycled, eco-friendly, reusable hemp tampons out and they will be so much more pleasant.
Awesome, I love it when the Conservative view is able to overcome. I say that becuase I was banned from commenting on Consumerist.com when they lauded Al Franken for asking how many bankruptcies Swedan has had due to mecial costs. I dared to challenge the statements and was banned.
The "friend" who has to rethink your intellegence, needs to remember that those of us in the (no-longer) Silent Majority have been smart enough to have jobs, start businesses, and, until now, make the economy of the US the best in the world, while the so-called "Smart Ones" hid in school and took grant money. It is amazing to see how many of us are taking vacation time from our jobs to go to "Tea-Party" events to express our dismay and anger at what is happening. The "Smart Ones" rarely have to sacrifice time away from a job – they cut class, or their union organizes attendance, so they thought that we would never protest en masse the way we have. I don't do Facebook, but I'm glad to know there are people like Jake and Carl fighting the fight on those sites!
Can I make fun of Monica for using 'your' instead of 'you're'? Typical liberal union-tenured teacher; -do as I say, not as I do-, no dissent allowed. pot-kettle-black is right (or is that racist?).

I had this EXACT conversation on FB before the election with "friends" — one of whom is also a public schoolteacher. Her arguments and point of view were equally appalling and would have been laughable if she wasn't in a position to influence young minds. (Nothing like being called racist for outing someone's voting records, political affiliations, and totally transparent marketing push.)
The silver lining in all of this madness is that a lot of folks are seriously considering homeschooling or private schooling their kiddos. Gives me…wait for it…HOPE.
I have a few "democrat" acquaintances, thankfully they are too lazy to actually vote. They do like to try and argue with me though. It's actually quite funny. Usually my last line is "I'll pray for you." That makes them so damn mad they run away.

That's why I've tried to keep politics off my page. I think I had one thing on there, but I left out my 9/12 March experience and pictures. It simply wasn't worth it. Most of those people do know that I'm conservative, but we don't talk politics that much because I feel that sometimes there are "politics free zones". I speak up when necessary, though (BOY, HOWDY! There's a reason my friends call me "passionate"!).
If I felt it was necessary to speak up, say for instance if one of my facebook friends made one of her stupid political comments, I'd jump right in. Otherwise, I let it go. Facebook is supposed to be social for the most part, so unless I'm on a political site of some kind, I keep it out.

Every day Public school teachers do less and want more more more. They are over paid and under worked, they are paid twice the national average wage and they work less than 8 hours a day on less than half the days in a year.
How about the results? They teach our kids a bunch of clap-trap so they will accept it when they become voters. There is no God, praise homosexuals, be politically correct, global warming, embrace illegals, bigger government is the answer to everything. They don't have time for the three RRRs any more, they are too busy turning out idiots that can't speak, write or form a cognizant thought. The government is their god

Why so defensive?
I am not defensive, just disappointed at a person whom I thought was a friend! I tried to get Carl to hike so could get healthy and he turns around to do this. He greatly blew one comment out of proportion! For the ignorant fool that commented on teachers not working hard enough, I invite you to visit any school and spend one day in a teacher's shoes before you open that mouth against any teacher again! This is a forum for people to vent against any Democrat! I am a Democrat and apparently ruffled all your feathers because my comments were that powerful! Carl, this can only come back against you and it will. Is the need for attention and approval that great? What a disappointment! If I were not a threat I would not be here! I am blessed to have a few Democratic friends who do not bother to argue with me…:) I post lots of stuff (especially from this site!) on my facebook….if I have to argue my point, I am intelligent enough to say what I mean and mean what I say…If someone were to treat me badly because of my point of view, i don't think I would consider them my friend.
Monica, given how people of a slightly liberal to outright hardcore leftist publicly react to anyone from 'flyover country' and what "I might not agree with [insert name] on some issues" usually imply, it's understandable that people think you're slamming both Arkansas and Carl's humor. I can't tell you how many "friends" have dropped off the face of the planet after they found out I'm registered with an R in parenthesis before my name. "But I thought you were so smart!","I knew we disagreed on some stuff, but I really thought you were smarter!", "What's gotten into you? You used to care so much about people…", etc. Then the gradual loss of all contact kicks in; and sometimes some slamming going on behind the back of the dreaded outed conservative. There's been a few cases where suddenly I'm a RAAAAAAACIST because of it (I'm still trying to figure out how valuing a person based on the content of their character rather than a superficial glance at just the color of their skin determining their culture, creed, reliability, etc is racist, but apparently it somehow is…this according to several ex-friends and an ethnic studies professor upon finding out about the R).
So, while slamming Carl and Arkansas may not have been your intended goal, it definitely comes across that way given Carl's political leanings.
Al Gore and Obama have strong views, just like Hitler. They also understand the use of propaganda, just like Hitler.

Yeah, I learned my lesson about having anything to do with politics. But the thing that bugs me is that I didn't shoot off nasty little messages to them when they "became a fan" of Obama. Or when they make their entire FB experience about politics. I have spoken up when I felt I was going to burst – such as when everyone was updating their statuses to say, "No person should die b/c they can't afford health insurance." It is just such a double standard. "They" are supposed to be the tolerant, understanding ones, but we all know that just isn't the case.
I was a public school teacher before my son was born. I loved the classroom experience (the part of the day with the students). It was the part of the day that I had to spend with my peers that I disliked. I truly believe that I had that experience for a reason. It opened my eyes to A LOT. My whole worldview changed, so much so, that when my son was born I became a stay-at-home-mom. And when he got school-aged, I decided to homeschool him. My closest circle of friends are the former public school teachers that now all homeschool. I don't have any statistics, but I know there are a lot of us out there.

I saw a book today talking about "The Last of the Republicans" and here you say that the Republican Party is going downhill fast to their impending doom. Hey, Monica, have you noticed that Republicans are leading Democrats in almost all polls including generic ballot and who America trusts most. But I'll shut up now…you're absolutely right…we're no threat to you…go on about your business of your party being so awesome.

I worked for a school once – taught digital animation – one teacher was left total power trip (replaced me first then asked me if losing 27000 hurt)
she was forced out but I was never recompensed. (of course)
the other teacher (her replacement – nice enough – but still let me get screwed without saying a thing)
the third – kept a bottle of whisky in her drawer and it wasn't for dabbing cuts…
I wasn't allowed to fail a child who did nothing. sat there didn't come for help when it was offered nothing.
I was told 'we don't want to fail people or we might not get the grant again – and that isn't fair to the other kids'
So the grant wasn't working, the people incharge were doing their own agendas – AND YOU COULDN'T FAIL THE KIDS CAUSE THEY MIGHT FEEL BAD – and this was a couple years ago – they never lost the grant and all children are SO BRIGHT NO ONE FAILS – EVER. In obamaland….

Dear Monica, (my poor, union controlled liberal drone), most of us can find common ground on any number of issues. I am quite sure that you and I, as women, can find multiple social issues that we agree upon. I am also quite sure that there are a myriad of issues that we will NOT agree on as thinking Americans. For instance, I don't agree that people in Arkansas have any less a sense of humor than those anywhere else in the country. After all, Arkansas gave us Bill Clinton so they must have some semblance of humor! I also happen to believe that friends are too valuable to throw away like used tissue because they are not marching in lockstep with my own political view. The point, dear heart, is that you reacted to your supposed friend in the same way many knee-jerk liberals react. You went after a friend because you didn't like what they said. That says a lot about you. I, for one, continue to admire and live by the words of Voltaire, "I may not like what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
Let me close this with the sincere hope that you will learn that expanding your mind means you must listen and process the thoughts and ideas of others.

I won't have friendships with liberals unless they hide their fascist inner child. One could suggest liberals just read some history books to learn about the oppression, pollution and poverty of ideology they demand, but then Liberals have airbrushed and revised the history I have lived through and seen with my own eyes to be something totatlly different than reality. Our poor children have been brainwashed into thinking oppression is cool while the freedom of the "dead white men" is racist and not even worth learning about. Oh well.
The day will come when Liberals, the friends and supporters of every dictator who has ever lived, will be the ones who will hide their faces from American-Americans, in shame and fear. That day will come with a generation of Americans ask: "Why did liberals hate us so much that they demean our ancestors, cleansed our history and culture? What don't we know about ourselves and our American ancestors? I want to be free!"
So, can you keep your politics out of your classroom, or do you do your part to teach children the correct (i.e. Democrat) way? There's a fine line between education and indoctrination, and I'd hate to think that you're on the wrong side of it.

I'd unfriend Monica. You need to change that dim bulb. Unfortunately, she sounds like almost every teacher I encountered during my stint as an educator at public schools. One of the many problems with our education system is that we have too many truly stupid adults teaching our kids. Despite all their talk about free speech, liberals only mean it when it comes from the left. My blog has lost many liberal readers because of my conservative political views, but I can't sit by silently when a situation reaches a level of sheer insanity, e.g., algore's climate BS. Don't even get me started on obama.

I have had the same problem with FB. It asks "what's on your mind?" So I tell them. I'm sure I've lost friends because of my postings, but oh well. I have never defriended people because of their posts, but I have been defriended. If you don't point out truths, how will they know? Your liberal friends probably don't watch or read conservative news outlets do they? They may be more open to other opinions if they come from friends…
One thing that comforts me is that people are starting to see the creepy power trip SOME teachers are on. They are used to being able to control children and try to carry it over others. Why can't teachers just keep their political opinions to themselves?

and btw, i've done the school teacher thing and have had much tougher jobs for much less money. the "overworked, underpaid teacher" is one of the great myths of our society. but then again, judging by the average (actually well below average) caliber of people who go into education- as witnessed by your witless comments here- maybe it really is tough for folks like you. here's a better idea: instead of constantly daring the rest of us to walk a mile in your shoes, why don't more teachers try slugging it out in the real world without their tenure, vacation time, and other union/govt-guaranteed perks? you'll be diving back into the classroom so fast it will look like a 1950's civil defense drill.

I am a conservative. We raised our kids in a wealthy neighborhood. We used cotton diapers and even used a clothes line to dry laundry. Our pets also included rabbits and ducks. Conservatives have been long famous for conservation. Green radicals seem to be angry city dwellers.

She's a pathetic example of the type teacher that all my children had at least once in public schrewl…at age ten none of them would have made that error and they were often sources of controversy in the classroom for correcting the teacher.

The double standard is definitely getting tiresome. The good thing about that is this: Americans as a whole don't go for hypocrisy, no matter who's peddling it and they definitely don't like double standards. Despite decades of leftist propaganda in this country, Americans are at their core "common sense" folks and if something doesn't smell right, they speak up. Hence the Tea Parties, etc.
On social sites, basically if no one else is politicizing beyond having one little "Obama" thing on their home page, then I don't bother. They are exercising their 1st Amendment rights and I'm not the type to tell people to shut up just because I can If someone went further than that and injected politics into it, then I would have something to say. So far, so good. Even though I know I've got quite a few Democrats and/or straight up Leftists on my facebook list of friends. Still, we manage to get along and that's the American way.

I don't know if Whittier is in the LA Unified school district. If not, they're neighbors. If you have the time, look up the literacy rates and testing scores of LAUSD. You will see how shockingly poor they are. Even more shocking however is the power of the teachers' union to keep these failures in their jobs. No one is accountable.

I guess I am still in the proverbial closet when it comes to my Facebook! I sneakily joined the "House Republicans" late into the night one evening thinking nobody would notice, and I even went to my Profile page and hid the posting. When I decided to become a fan of Tom Campbell's (R), I checked the bottom of the page to see who was online at the time. I did brave a new group, Advocacy California, which I figured looked pretty innocuous to an outsider if they bothered to check. That's why I visit places like this, and have my Twitter where I can vent without anybody….. Holy Cow, I think I need therapy…
We worry that some Republicans are too influenced by greed or fear or hatred. However, some Republicans are just mind-numbingly stupid.
I came here from a post on FB. It's pretty funny actually. We're left coast liberals who Never ever stop in Red America. We don't buy junk from Red America or do any sort of business with anything remotely conservative. We know we control the economic might of the country from NY and California. Our friends are NY'rs and we identify more with our European friends than anything that passes for the uneducated masses that make up Palin Land. Frankly, I'd be happy to boot Red America from the map. It's great to see that people don't tolerate tea bagging and the nutty flavor of conservatism these day. We win! We control education, the economy, the culture. You get nothing and have to hide your posts on a freaking social network site. You probably should stop and look at what you've created. You have no link to the American culture in music, movies etc..You are outcasts in your own country. Just give it up and get the F out ok.
