Occupy Sundance Sticks it to Redford’s Swag-Laden Film Gala
by Christian TotoPerhaps now Hollywood celebrities will discover what the rest of the country already has – those Occupy Wall Street types are pretty gamey up close.
The Occupy movement seems to be dying down, witness the pathetic showings at recent OWS-style events and its cash woes.
That isn’t stopping OWS enthusiasts from staging the first-ever Occupy Sundance film festival in Park City Utah – the same location where Robert Redford holds his annual movie fest dedicated to giving indie artists a voice – and some pretty neat swag. Each of the films playing at Occupy Sundance will relate directly to a movement known for mass arrests, destruction of public property and incoherency.
After all, as the festival’s web site points out, “of the 11,700 films submitted this year to Sundance, 180 were accepted=1%.” Maybe the 99 percent are just frustrated filmmakers unable to win over those Sundance gate keepers.
Occupy Sundance claims it doesn’t want to disrupt Redford’s festival, but one only has to witness the seething class envy already displayed by OWS to predict some clashes between Occupiers and Hollywood elite.
Visitors to Occupy Sundance, which begins tomorrow and runs through Jan. 29, can see the following features:
“Occupy Wall Street: The Revolution is Love” by Ian Mackenzie
“Hot Chicks of Occupy Wall Street” by Steven Greenstreet
“That Which We Occupy” by At the Hop Productions
“Where Do We Go From Here” by Ed David
“No One Can Predict the Moment of Revolution” by Iva Radivojevic
“Occupy Wall St: The Revolution Is Inspiring” by Tim Schwartz

So, if I understand you correctly, you're saying we should carpet bomb Park City Utah during the Sundance Film Festival?
At least that's what I got out of it.
Maybe I'm projecting a little.
Pictured above is what a 50 IQ looks like, and that's all of them combined. I have one more word for the OC crowd, Lysol.
LOL, I wonder how many of them brought their screenplays?

One of these things is not like the others…
Occupy Hokkywood. Give me a break. Anyone who thinks these occutards are relevant haven't listened to the queen of occupy, Pelosi. Your toast when the radical left disavows you. ( should I have spelled it hokiewood?)
I'm sure the snobs at the festival, those who encourage and support the OWS crowd will be appalled at the notion that they (the OWS) would have the nerve to come there and interrupt their protected world. The OWS crowd is for other places to demonstrate for their demands, certainly not theirs for they are on their side after all.
i stopped in park city last year, and i noticed everybody was a future actor/actress. they would first ask if you were in the film industry, then pretend it was just an act. it was funny. it's a shame redford had to trash such a beautiful city, by bringing the the garbage in!
Maybe Redford will get a "dialogue" going with the riff raff.
“Occupy Wall St: The Revolution Is Inspiring”
That title sure isn't. Most 4th grade history essays have cleverer tittles.
I hope the film is better… although given that it probably treats the Occupy [Insert Random Location Here] Movement with reverence and respect, I doubt it.
I am pretty sure that the uccupy myanu$ people will not bother the stars.
But rather, disrupt businesses of the evryday working stiff.
Just like they have done in every major city.
Without ever making it to the house of a Michael Bloomberg or Michael Moore.
Next on the agenda-Occupy SXSW.
Aren't they going to protest against Redford for killing all those Crow Indians in "Jeremiah Johnson"? And asking where he can find animals "worth cash money when skinned"?
I love the smell of napalm and patchouli in the morning….
There are 2 alternative festivals occupying Sundance. Check out <a href="http://www.occupysundancefilmfestival.com” target=”_blank”>www.occupysundancefilmfestival.com for info on Occupy Sundance Film Festival Jan. 21 – 24. The movie lineup described in the article is actually for the Occupy Sundance Film Festival
Why don't you check it out and see. http://www.occupysundancefilmfestival.com. Click on "movies playing"
Regardless, all are great films. Checkout http://www.occupysundancefilmfestival and take a look.
Wow, and I thought nothing could make Sundance less enjoyable than it already was.
I stand corrected. That was actually a decent short-form documentary. I liked the fact that it presents scenes as they appeared. People like me, who found the whole Occupy Movement a monumental hollow joke will keep shaking their heads… and those who found it inspiring will be inspiring.
That said, I found the final minute stirring, despite my contempt for the subject matter.
I overstepped myself and cast aspersions where I shouldn't have. "Occupy Wall St: The Revolution is Inspiring" is a well-done bit of film-making. My apologies!
NOBODY CARES.
Park City is Utahs biggest liberal blight. Do you know that RR extorts money from the state to keep this festival going and his sundance ski resort too? Yep. If his leftist friends knew he was kissing republican ass they would squeal like the pigs they are.
When I saw the headline I thought there would be some docs pushing back at the excesses of Hollywood or the hypocrisy of elitists in the entertainment industry. Nope. It's just a bunch of navel-gazing, self-serving propaganda. ZZZZ.
I will say this – having been in Park City during Sundance (but for Slamdance), it was everything everyone jokes about Hollywood – pretentious, obnoxious, overblown, and stupid. Try driving and having people in snow for the first time crossing the street right in front of you like you're the one doing something wrong. It was a quarter mile of concentrated Hollywood narcissism that made this trad very angry. Try driving your wife and son and mother around in that nonsense.
Slamdance, by comparison, was actually pretty cool. People with some vary wide ranging views didn't work too hard on politics – just on NOT being Sundance. While that, in and of itself, isn't necessarily a good thing, it was, for the most part, successfully followed through on in the sense that it was about NOT being pretentious and obnoxious.
Which is why this Occupy stupidity coming to Park City just makes me laugh. This is the very same thing these Hollywood, super-rich morons talk a big game about but go bonkers over when it interferes with their parties. Hey, you smelly protest people, be all revolutionary and stuff, and we'll talk a big game for you, but just don't do it where we have to actually confront it.
the sinner,
Patrick
Which reminds me of the old joke – liberals love minorities – they just hate blacks and Hispanics and Asians, etc. Keep them an unknown abstraction, and they're fine – bring them into my neighborhood and I'll have a problem.
the sinner,
Patrick
I find it interesting that the people most calling for a revolution are probably the ones least likely to survive it. Remember, the future belongs to the prepared!
Wow, so that's where all the "Third World Transgendered Marxisit Literature" majors have been hiding.! Damn I have a $150,000 a year job with full medical and 401k plan that needs one of those grads and I can't find anyone.
Sigh, guess I'll have to hire that kid who majored in Business!
TJ, have you read "One Second After" yet? There's a great scene in there dealing with how our clueless, spoiled slacker college kids would fare when the solid fecal matter impacted the air moving, room cooling device.
I heard a version of that about North-South relations. A Southerner once told me that "Southerners hate the Black race buy like the individuals they know; northerners love the Black race but hate the indivduals they know."
Redford is so self-righteous that it makes me ill. I hope some of the great unwashed of the OWS get into a nice debate with him over Redford being in the 1%. Yeah… like that's gonna happen.
The Occupiers are OCCUPIED! By WHAT? Um…DEMONS, maybe? I mean, C'MON…EAT THE RICH? LORD HAVE MERCY! These GHOULS sure don't!

*Eddie, an outspoken atheist, spent his entire life of 50 years denying the existence of God. Then he contracted a debilitating disease, and his health slowly deteriorated. As he lay in a hospice house awaiting death, Eddie was visited almost every day by some Christian friends he had known in high school. They told him again of Christ’s love. But the closer Eddie came to dying, the more it appeared he was not interested in God.
One Sunday, a pastor stopped by to visit. To everyone’s surprise, Eddie prayed with him and asked Jesus for forgiveness and salvation. A few weeks later, he died.
Eddie denied Christ for 50 years and spent just 2 weeks loving and trusting Him. But because of his faith, he will experience forever God’s presence, glory, love, majesty, and perfection. Some may argue that this isn’t fair. But according to Jesus’ parable in Matthew 20, it’s not about fairness. It’s about God’s goodness and grace (vv.11-15).
Have you waited such a long time to trust Jesus for salvation that you think it might be too late? Consider the thief on the cross, who put his faith in Jesus just before he died (Luke 23:39-43). Trust Jesus now, and receive His gift of eternal life. It’s not too late!

Yes! I love it. Media: please give this your apt attention (wishful thinking?). Let these libs live amongst their own.
Observation: there will always be a 1%. This is some really silly sloganeering on OWS' part. What free system would not have a 1%?
This all parallels an aspect of the Woodstock generation that kids today rarely hear criticized. It is this notion of equality uber alles, i.e., that everything should be available at no cost to everyone. It should all be free! Unfortunately, forced equality cuts against the grain of liberty and freedom, let alone initiative.
After Woodstock, there were a litany of other rock festivals that tried to recapture the magic, but had the audacity to ask attendees to pay. This frequently lead to hostility and violence. I recently watched the fascinating "Festival Express" (1970) wherein the Grateful Dead and other acts give in the mobs bullying them to play free of cost. Yet, aboard the touring train, these very same counterculture icons (Bob Weir specifically) very adamantly, and persuasively, defend the idea of being free to make a living (Phil Lesh echoes the same), being paid for their talents and against the abuses hurled at the police assigned to work their concerts (someone on board argues that "the pigs are the ones starting it!"). Weir seems especially bothered by the latter, and says the police were really excellent people, but were met with hostility and aggression for no reason.
The exact same mob mentality was seen at the Isle of Wight in the UK and most notoriously at the Stones' Altamont fiasco. Now we see it in OWS. These are perfect examples of what happens when people expect things for free. It's an entitlement mentality….a plague really.
Certainly there are legitimate issues (high cost of tuition, e.g.), but the OWS has been so general in its demands that it's much more representative of what I'm talking about (anti-authority, anti-rules, anti- capitalism, anti-police, etc.) than anything really specific. It's a mentality, not a cause.
I'd like to see some Occutard defecate on some Hollywood elistist's limo (or maybe in it).
I was married to a malignant narcissist. 3 brothers are/were(Bob died at 60, kinda like Christopher Hitchens).
Dad, was a narcissist. VIRTUALLY, every kid I grew up with is, or WAS a narcissist. The President is a narcissist. Ron Paullyanna and His disciples are ALL, PASSIVE-AGRESSIVE, HISTRIONIC, ENVIOUS, NIHILISTIC, COWARDLY NARCISSISTS.
Peace and Love…Eat The Rich…CUCKOO, CUCKOO, CUCKOO!

2. "When the narcissist's grandiose sense of self-worth is perceived as being attacked by another person, the narcissist's natural reaction is to rage and pull down the self-worth of others (to make the narcissist feel superior to others). It is an attempt by the narcissist to soothe their internal pain and hostility, while at the same time rebuilding their self worth."
3. "Narcissistic rage also occurs when the narcissist perceives that he/she is being prevented from accomplishing their grandiose fantasies."
Well, if you all can change the definitions of work ethic, personal hygiene, and capitalism . . . I guess you can change the definition of 'great film' too . . .
Question: are there any hairy armpits in 'Hot Chicks of Occupy Wall Street'? Love me some gnarly armpit hair.
Great way to stay classy, too, by the way.
Craig, I live over near Beijing U.(Dartmouth).
I caught one of the GIRLS, in repose. Not carrying her Piece Sign(white flag)

Meh. If my high school students gave me that as a final project I'd give it a B+ for technical work, and a B- for coherence.
All I kept thinking, was how well off the apes were in Planet of the Apes, after they tore down all that man had created. They lived like cave men. These crowds of brain-washed/idealistic/dead hippy/manipulative drones, all chanting incoherent slogans in unison, scared me. If enough of the useless rose up, could they unbalance our system and destroy it? Probably. Would ANY of us, us or them, like what came after? No, I don't think so.
Also reminded me a lot of the old After School Special The Wave . . .
And, HERE'S a Gheh-Paullyannist-Leftist-Dirtbaggin-Mensa candidate.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh205/dishmael...
I appeared on NPR the other day with a nice young but misguided gentleman from Dartmouth. He was very polite. I'm too close to the MA border for my own comfort. My wife dragged me to see each of the candidates in the week before the primary, and at Newt's I picked up a "Don't MASS Up NH" shirt
About 6 years ago I worked in West Lebanon, and had a Dartmouth student as a customer. She was from Iraq…SHE ADORED GEORGE W. BUSH. AND, SO DID EVERYBODY SHE HAD AT HOME. I told her to not let that get out on campus. She said, BELIEVE ME, I KNOW!
I ran away from Gayfemarxachush#ts, in 1992, FALSE CHARGES OF DOMESTIC VIOLINS. I have been in exile, ever since.
AND, we've already been MASSED with…We're dead last, behind Ghehvermin't in the Live Birth Rate. NO BABIES, NO CIVILIZATION.
YOU, are OCCUPIED, Squirrelfriend…
Please attempt to FIND THE LIGHT SWITCH…Better over here…Trust me.

Here is the take from here just in case someone at Hollywood or RR happen to read the blogs on Big Hollywood.
Hollywood and it's tentacles like Sundance… is very quickly becoming entirely irrelevant. With technology and internet and apps up the wazoo ANYONE can make a movie short, documentary, expose, music video….. They might not yet be spectacular techno masters yet, but with the right exposure….. the independent film and entertainment industry is in a very big way cutting the apron strings that bind all to the Hollywood narrative and political pressure to constantly rewrite history and events to suit their own agenda and at the expense of true artistic expression.
Most homes are being built with home theaters, media rooms and many options for electronic viewing via internet and computer, streaming and sharing. Won't be long till most movies wont even spend the money to hire the same old Hollywood retread actors and actresses….One can only hope.
Times are a changing. OWS…. lost the battle of dialog relevancy from the very beginning…. quite different from the dialog of the Tea-Party… whether you were a part of it or not and whether you agreed with them or not they were a powerful reminder that there are still people in America that don't and won't tow the line and will take to the streets if the need arises… OWS should have paid attention and so should have Hollywood..
Well… a B isn't bad, at least not when compared to some of the crap i spend a good part of my day watching.
I think share your viewpoint on the Occupy [Insert Random Location Here] Movement, but it was still unfair of me to let my contempt cause me to pre-judge a film. (I still think it's a lame title… and I will see if "Hot Chicks of Occupy Wall Street–a GOOD title–lives up to the promise.
)
I applaud your recantation . . . is that a word? Although I don't completely agree with your more enlightened review.
Oh, and I couldn't help myself, and caught "Hot Chicks" after I watched "Inspiration" . . . I would have given the film a C, and the film-maker's taste is 'hot chicks' an F.
If you bomb them I'm sure the smoke rising out of the mess would be so infused with pot that most of the nation would be high and get the munchies.
These Satanic Ass-Clones are the mobs, in the French Revolution…Mao's People's Army, Bolsheviks, Nayzees, of course… ____Leftist A-Theists and Right Wing A-Theists, are only capable of HATING THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS. They have GREAT COMPASSION FOR EVIL.

These movements were founded by Lenin, Mussolini, Franco, Hitler, the leaders of the Iron Guard in Romania, various figures from the extreme right in France, and through every single country in Europe in some version or another—the Bolshevik movement on the Left, all of the other movements on the Right.
The story in the Book of Revelation says: There is a people of God; the people of God are being afflicted and polluted by forces from within their own society, who worship at the synagogue of Satan. At the same time, the people of God are being afflicted by cosmic foes from abroad.
The people of God who are oppressed rise up in rebellion against these polluting forces from within and against the cosmic forces from abroad. The name of this war is Armageddon, and it lasts, according to St. John, the author of Revelation, one hour.
