Karma: Actors Quick to Mock GOP as Dumb Embarrass Themselves at Golden Globes

Anyone who so much as channel surfed onto the 69th annual Golden Globes telecast last night spotted one bumble or another. Maybe more.
Meryl Streep dropped an “F” bomb during her acceptance speech for her work in “The Iron Lady.” Natalie Portman walked to the wrong podium. The teleprompter had a hiccup, leaving Rob Lowe to stare at the screen as if he had never ad libbed a second in his life. Johnny Depp looked like it was his first time speaking before a live audience.
“Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara had trouble with multiple names, but we’ll cut her some slack since one of them was “The Artist” director Michel Hazanavicius.
It’s a good thing Robert De Niro or Warren Beatty, two of the worst public speakers in Tinsel Town, weren’t in the building.
Some of these very same celebrities are pretty quick to mock the IQ levels of GOP presidential hopefuls like Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann, but when it comes to one of the biggest nights of their profession they can barely maintain a professional veneer, let alone hit their marks.

Can you be more specific? When has Depp mocked republicans? Or Vergara? Or Lowe?
I think people back in the days of Georgian and Victorian England were on to something when they regarded actors and acrtresses as disreputable as prostitutes, pickpockets and beggars. Nowadays, people seem to lionize actors and actresses – along with prostitutes (think Xaviera Hollander, the "Happy Hooker", and movies like "Pretty Woman"), pickpockets (also known as politicians and government bureaucrats), and beggars (the OWS crowd).
Because a person can spout lines believably, society thinks they are knowledgeable. I like the commercial Doogy Howser made, were he spouts he is not a doctor, but played one on TV as he walks through a hospital killing people.
Too bad the scripted jokes are never this funny.

I will never argue that liberal actors are unintelligent…but you mentioned Rob Lowe…I thought he has come saying he is a conservative/libertarian …I have never heard anything from Sophia or Depp for that matter. That being said Depp would not surprise me. I guess if you know something I do not…I would love to know. Actually I might not like to know…because I like Rob Lowe…I only know Sophia from Modern Family…and Depp is just weird.
Fair question. Maybe that's why the author used the term "some". In Der Spiegel, Depp called Bush "a liar and an idiot" almost 10 years ago. Yet in another interview he said, "What can I say? He's somebody's kid. He's somebody's father. God bless him. Good luck. You know what I mean? I don't agree with his politics, and I'm not going to pretend to, but I don't agree with a lot of people's politics." And he has also said, "I am an American. I love my country and have great hopes for it. It is for this reason that I speak candidly and sometimes critically about it. I have benefited greatly from the freedom that exists in my country and for this I am eternally grateful."
Sofia Vergara is a conservative. Lowe's appearance on Hannity was fluff (much of Hannity is fluff: the host seems to put little effort into issue research and his lack of depth is apparent); Lowe will do SNL skits, but he stays away from controversy.

Who cares what actors think about anything? They play pretend for a living and are paid far, far too much for it. This gives them a sense of importance and thus believe they are relevent. They are no more relevant than a painting or a sculpture. For this they have the great self-love fests that are award shows. The day after, their arms must be sooo sore from patting themselves on the back all night.

That was Sidney Poitier not Belafonte. Poitier is the Black guy who has class, sanity, and acting ability worthy of his Oscar.

Take away their scripts and these vapid celebrities are as about as articulate as 10 year olds. The only reason most of them ever sound very bright is that someone else writes what they say and they're good at pretending to understand the words they read. That's why they're actors.

Rob Lowe doesn't blast liberals there or anywhere. Empathy is a good quality. I'd call liberals childlike, irresponsible, angry and dangerous. Not him.
He says liberals are empathetic and left brained, conservatives are logical and right brained. That's making both equal as a person does need both hemispheres of the brain.
Elsewhere he says he was very liberal when he was young and calls himself an "Independent Moderate" now. I guess that's an "extreme rightwinger" to Sean Penn but a step in the right direction to me.
Sidney is 84 and looked every bit of his age up there. He didn't look like he's in the best of shape, unfortunately.

Depp didn't just mock Republicans, Depp openly mocked the United States in an interview a few years back, about how grateful he was for "getting out" and living in France, and how he'd never raise his kids in the states.
Most of these celebrities are idiots because they bash those who go see their movies right before they open, i.e. Cher and Hanks. My list is long: Penn, Oprah, Odonnell, JayZ, Beyonce, sadly Paul McCarthy, Spacey, Cher, Hanks, Streep, Sarandon, Plummer, Moore, Damon, Affleck, George Lopez, Jennifer Lopez, M. Moore, Midler, and soooo many more.

Ummm…karma would be if they didn't win anything. They still won. And their fans don't mind a bit if they flub–it makes "live" tv that much more exciting to watch things get screwed up in real time. Besides, everyone knows the Golden Globes are the awards show where everyone's drunk.
Yeah, it's pretty amusing how these lame brain, self-absorbed drama students mock the intelligence of others while wildly inflating their own importance.
WIth respect Christian, but what is the point of this piece? But I expect candidates running for the highest office in the country to be exceedingly smarter than celebs. A celeb making a gaffe or two during an awards show cannot be compared to Bachmann or Palin. I understand people here like to make celebrity bashing a daily sport, but it's a bit hypocritical when you consider the many high profile conservatives/ republicans actors who critized Obama AND also made gaffes at award shows. The recent debates serve as proof that candidates running for office make endless gaffes far exceeding the ones made by slightly intoxicated celebs at awards shows. That is far more troubling!

Depending on how "big" a talent thinks he/she is usually determines whether or not they show up for rehearsal. Usually, they run backstage right after walking the red carpet to meet with the prompter operator. After a quick run-through, the talent runs off to either the green room or their seat for top of show. Few take the time to learn their lines, using the 50-inch screen set up in the middle of the house as a crutch. All too often a useless crutch as vanity prevents them from wearing glasses to see.
Maybe you should ask instead which celebrities we ARE willing to give our money to — would be a much shorter list!

Back in the old days, actors and actresses were regarded as persons of ill repute. Then as now, not all of them actually were whores. But Angelina Jolie certainly is, in every sense of the word, and a lying one at that. Jolie attended the Golden Globes hankering for an award for her latest directorial fiasco, and left empty-handed.

It is all about failure to do one's homework, and yes, it IS important. Here is why:
These celebs nearly all participate in left-wing politics and do fundraising and campaigning for Obama and other hard-left candidates and causes, including, but not limited to, pro-Muslim, anti-Israel, and eco-radical issues.
Many of these Hollywood personalities have never thought clearly about what they are talking about. When somebody asks them reasonable questions, and they haven't already been fed talking points from some lefty propagandist organization, they often let the truth slip out. We have genuine reason to worry, simply because these people have a lot of money, and can do expensive fund-raising events, and campaign very effectively for left-wing candidates and causes.
They rarely have done their homework. Many celebrity spokespeople don't know much about, or haven't bothered to think through, the issues that they are campaigning for or against. They rely on someone to give them talking points, and when someone asks them a question they didn't expect, they occasionally let the truth slip out. Case in point: [LINK]
Most of these folks' highest academic achievement is high school drama class. Need we say more? Give me just 'The Amazing Race' and 'Top Chef' and I am happy. No actors and non-union writers. Yes!!!!
