Showtime Preps Cheney Doc By Pro-Clinton ‘War Room’ Producer
by Christian TotoHBO has made a name for itself for not only delivering strong original content like “The Sopranos” but deeply biased documentaries like “Reagan.”
Now, HBO’s main competitor Showtime is backing a new documentary on Vice President Dick Cheney. The channel hired R.J. Cutler, the producer behind the pro-Clinton documentary “The War Room,” to give us a new look at President George W. Bush’s vice president and confidante.
Tentatively titled, “The World According to Dick Cheney,” the film will take a look at one of the most powerful vice presidents in history. Here’s director R.J. Cutler’s take on the upcoming film from a Showtime press release:
Like it or not, we live in a world defined by the domestic and international vision of Dick Cheney — perhaps the single-most influential non-Presidential figure in American political history,” said Cutler. “But for all the debate that his re-emergence in the public eye has caused, the fact is that Cheney the man remains an enigma, and the manner in which he utilized his power and experience to become such a dominating political figure, have been left largely unexplored. This documentary will shine a balanced and multi-dimensional light on this truly polarizing figure.
Will “The World According to Dick Cheney” be a fair representation of the veteran political figure? We’ll have to wait and see, but consider this snippet from a piece Cutler wrote about how “The War Room” got such unfettered access to Clinton’s campaign.
Our final hurdle was going down to Little Rock to get James [Carville] on board. We sat with him and told him what we wanted to do, and he said, “I get it, I totally understand. But you have to understand that the only thing that matters in my life is getting Bill Clinton elected president. Anything else is a distraction. Why would I possibly want to do it?”
I thought I knew the answer to James’s question: You’ve got to do it for history; you’ve got to do it so that people can see how amazing you are; you’ve got to do it because you’re about the change the world.
No official air date has been announced, but if the film takes a decidedly anti-Cheney stance don’t be surprised if it hits small screens close to the Nov. 2012 elections.

Whether it's fair or not is irrelevant to me (but most likely NOT). I would never pay good money for Showtime or HBO.
not bloody likely.
He is as hated by the progressive left as any politician in history. Stung by Algore's loss to 'W', and the 'great good fortune' of the 9/11 attacks (yes, the progs moaned about why this couldn't happen when Billy C was in power, believe it or not- no good crisis, you know) the emergence of Cheney as a singularly focused wartime VP with a BIG resume in that area just made them crazy.
Determined to hand Bush a loss, they fought Cheney at EVERY step. For better or worse, he fought back at every step. To think that HBO would treat him as anything less than a pariah is to be dreaming…
I'm sure it will be fair and balanced…NOT!
There are so many documentaries out there, on the free market, online, dvd sales… conservative and liberal. But again, the gatekeepers, the one's who like limited controlled avenues of distribution and display… only liberal.
Would love to see a truly insightful statement about Cheney; however, I doubt that HBO or Showtime will ever produce it. Fingers crossed.
"Showtime is backing a new documentary on Vice President Dick Cheney."
I forgot. We are in a new presidential election cycle. Bring on more Camelot and FDR love fests and more Watergate, Iran Contra, Abu Graib, Haditha reduxes. The same democrat MO. Who is funding it?
"…. the single-most influential non-Presidential figure in American political history,” said Cutler.
So I guess we can expect docs on David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett as well? No? Reggie "On the Down Low" Love?
"…. the single-most influential non-Presidential figure in American political history,” said Cutler. IF ONLY, says I.
He was SO influential, he couldn't even get Bush to PARDON Scooter Libby.
More fantasy liberalism.
Bill Maher personally caused me to cease doing business with HBO so why would I believe they have resorted to responsible documentaries?
Dick Cheney – here comes the torrent of comments from the usual lefty suspects who post here. Something about Cheney just drives em nuts. Hmmm … I wonder what it is???
There's nothing wrong with this country that couldn't be fixed by three words: President Dick Cheney.
Fairness, objectivity and civic faith are dead concepts in the post-modern mainstream world. They can take their "documentary" and pound sand.
* yawn *
Still waiting for an accurate life story on Ted Kennedy …. or LBJ… or Bill Clinton or Al Gore (the real story) or Robert KKK bird…. the list could keep them all busy for a lifetime……. All had terrible dancing skeletons in their closets and the left will never alow the truth to be told about their own…..EVER!
Another channel I got to drop I guess, right? First its HBO, cause theyve gotten all liberal and stuff, but now Showtime is jumping on the lefty bandwagon? Anything for Ear Leader I guess!
"…the fact is that Cheney the man remains an enigma…"
Enigma? Fact? Really? New definition for enigma: "A person that makes sound arguments against irrational leftist dogma. One who can not be beaten intellectually. Someone who requires the full arsenal of Hollywood propaganda to diminish."
Saul Alinsky be praised, the left would be lost without his continued guidance.
I tried to drop all the premium channels from my TW Cable subscription. In an effort not to beleaguer the process, I simply said it was tough times and I needed to save the extra $50 per month. The customer service rep completely caught me off guard when she said, we'll knock off $25 per month and you can keep what you've got. I said no thanks but I don't actually watch those channels. She then said, we'll take the entire price of those channels off your bill, but you can keep them. I said, for how long? She said, we'll start with 2 years and you can call us back when it ends to renew the agreement. That exchange proves to me how important they view the continued messaging over profitability.
If we ever get term limits, fair taxation, voter ID laws, and equitable laws for both politician and voter, I'd like to see ala carte purchasing for cable programming. That would dry up alot of this crapola.
Wow-that doesnt sound like my crappy system-Cablevision-who would just say, "OK, see you later!" I tried to drop some, but they have packages tied in with other, regular channels, so if I dropped HBO, I wouldnt get a bunch of basic cable channels-sort of like how the satcos do it. But they did give me a discount for the next 6 months, with free On-Demand for the pay channels I already have-Gee, thanx, guys-most places dont even charge you for the $5 monthly fee if youre already paying for those channels. But I chewed them out of paying for one DVR-once again, great negotiating, NJ,lol!
I wish Verizon was in my area, cause Id drop these guys faster than crap through a goose. FIOS is in my town, but not my 'hood-they must have stopped opening new areas, cause our only alternative is DirectTV, but everyone drops them, once football season is over and they cant handle windy weather.
Yes, a man who follows the proper protocol, unlike wackjob Biden, but "Good ol Uncle Joe" is beloved by the lefty press, and Cheney is villified!
What would you expect from HBO or any other liberal network? Don Draper is a sexist boor, but he's also a sexy fraud who loves his kids. Tony Soprano murders men with his bare hands, but he's "the sexiest new jersey mob boss ever", Dexter kills people but he's sexy because he kills bad people. Even Steve Buscemi as Nucky has the ability to sleep with a hot chick and an intelligent chick. Ladykillers all, compassionate heroes all.
Dick Cheney, who's a torturer, he lies, he's a complete fraud, he's a mastermind, he's the hidden hand behind the presidency. He's also the most evil man to have ever lived.
