Interview: ‘Not Evil Just Wrong’s’ Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney
by Christian TotoThe upcoming documentary “Not Evil Just Wrong” skewers global warming alarmists in the media and around the world. But filmmakers Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer contend their movie isn’t a conservative one.
“It’s a liberal, socialist film. It’s about poor people in Africa and America,” McAleer says. “We’re not interested in insulting anyone or winning political points,” McAleer continues. “I don’t care about your politics and I’m not going to demonize you.”

But what McAleer and McElhinney won’t stand for is watching people suffer while serious, glaring misinformation guides public policy.
That happened during the misinformation campaign surrounding the use of DDT years ago to stop the spread of malaria, they say, and it could happen soon if the U.S. adopts cap and trade legislation which will hamper industry – and curtail American prosperity.
The film sprung in part from their last film, “Mine Your Own Business.“ The documentary slammed environmentalists for holding back progress in impoverished communities.
McAleer recalls working as a liberal journalist assigned to cover “an evil capitalist mining company” for the Financial Times.
When he arrived on the scene, “I discovered everything the environmentalists were saying was exaggerated or untrue,” he says, adding the locals wanted the new mines to improve their standard of living.
“Mining gives jobs to some of the most impoverished people in the world,” he adds.
While touring to promote “Mine Your Own Business,” the filmmakers were implored to investigate DDT, the insecticide which could have prevented millions of Africans from getting Malaria had it not been unfairly assaulted by environmentalists the world over.
That lead to their interest in the fractious global warming debate.
“Co2 is the new DDT. They‘re demonizing it the same way,” McAleer says.
“Not Evil Just Wrong” doesn’t just feature experts who agree with the filmmakers’ views. Some sequences include those who fear the earth is warming at an alarming rate.
–
“Climate people always believe journalists are on their side … they assume the journalist will not ask difficult questions,” McAleer says.
McElhinney says when they challenged some of the environmentalists featured in the film, “…they take it very badly. It’s unfamiliar territory to them.”
“Not Evil Just Wrong” is set to debut Oct. 18, a date they hope will become the largest ever simultaneous film premiere. Consumers can buy DVDs of the film beforehand in the hopes they’ll wait to hit the play button until 8 p.m. EST Oct. 18 to take part in the historical attempt.
The DVD screenings will be accompanied by theatrical screenings across the U.S., and those who see the film can Twitter, Facebook, e-mail or Skype questions to a panel gathered at a D.C. screening of the film after it debuts.
The filmmakers have shown their movie to a limited number of audiences already. McElhinney says audiences are shocked by the information in the film, particularly the British court case which ruled much of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” was either misleading or outright wrong. The court debunked key information in the film, like the claim that sea waters would rise 20 feet in the near future.
Major media outlets couldn’t be bothered to report on that truth, McElhinney says.
“That’s a story worth reporting, and it‘s worth asking Al Gore about,” she says.
McElhinney compares global warming activists to undergraduates = well intentioned souls trafficking in dangerous material.
“They’re hopped up on testosterone and good intentions with little knowledge to back it up,” she says.

I disagree. Gore is not just wrong, but evil.
His motivation is greed.
This film may wake a few people that just basically don't pay attention to what is going on in the world but it will not phase the "true believers". Their mind is set and they only want to see info that corroborates their views. Unfortunately, it will not deter things like Cap and Trade because it's all about gov't control and political power anyway. What blows me away is that these are the people that claim they are for the poor and downtrodden. To "Unleash Prosperity" as The One promoted today. These actions with do neither "unleash prosperity" or help the planet.
I'm glad to see there are truth seekers willing to do this. I'm afraid this movie will be "singing to the choir".
this is going on my facebook right now!
Al Gore is a con man.
How the hell can we fight these things??
Looking around everywhere, I'm starting to get really fearful about where our country is going. Even if we get these morons out of power, how do we turn back this tide?
So now conservatives accept socialism as long as it blasts Al Gore and global warming?
This movie's title is terrible. They should have consulted with some brand managers.
I was thinking the same thing. In fact, a lot of your posts are similar to what I want to post but you beat me to them, e.g. boom shakalaka. Not sure if it's a good or bad thing. Just is.
Where does it say conservatives accept socialism?
Kind of wierd having others rooting around in my head… but then they get an eyeful and run screaming *lol*
Ooh, I want to see this!
I don't accept socialism. These movie ppl seem to be right on climate change, but wrong on economics.
The filmmakers are quite smart and savvy by not making this a conservative documentary. CONSERVATIVES DO NOT WATCH DOCUMENTARIES. They won't even buy the DVD. Maybe (and this is a big maybe) they will rent it from NetFlix, unless there is something else they would rather watch (and you can count on that).
Am I exagerating? Just ask the makers of "Michael Moore Hates America" or "Expelled" or "Indoctrinate U." The market for conservative documentaries consists of about twelve people, and most of them are on this blog.
Sure, conservatives will say, "About time!" and "You have our moral support!" but will they go to the theater to see a conservative film? NOOOOOOOOO. "We just don't go to movies."
Filmmakers: Eschew the idea of a "conservative" film. Even if you can make it, no one will go see it. We have to be more clever. Make GREAT movies that include our values – but are not preachy or corny. Examples: Pursuit of Happiness, Gran Torino, Gettysburgh.
I figured there were several people inside your head! (-:
So we have to agree totally on everything? We can't just agree on one or two issues? If you really think that, then you are exhibit A in what's wrong with political discourse in this country.
If it's good, we'll see it.
If it's good, we'll see it. I watch documentaries all the time although I seldom see them at my local theatre because they are seldom shown there.
Cap & Tax/Trade should be the SECOND ITEM OF OUTRAGE for the citizens of this country…attacking our entire healthcare system is just plain crazy, but signing the U.S.A. up for a business KILLING TAX when frigging CHINA and INDIA refuse to do the same is just INSANE! ….What, is it now "Western Hemisphere Warming"?… "Western Hemisphere Climate Change"? What a crock of crap. It's a hoax, a fraud and a scam, designed to make Micheal Moore's fat azz brother, Al Gore, even richer! The sun makes *climate change*, not people…wait around 200 years and, guess what? It'll "change" again!
I'm afraid your correct…G.T was great though! Saw it on the plane; I don't *do* theaters…I might go "Gran Torino" on some punk with a cell phone…
Eco-demonizers, start your engines!
there are..
no there's not!
oh yes we are!
exactly! If someone gets something right, I will be the first to headline that for them, even if they are wrong on other issues.
same here.. I just signed up at the website.
I think this issue is about reason versus unreasonably insane. Even though the majority is made up of unreasonably insane liberals who support this bunkum as a religion, there are still members of the unreasonably insane on the conservative side as well. Likewise, there are a small portion of liberal reasonists and a large amount of conservative reasonists that do believe that Al Gore's Unreasonably Insane 'Global Warming" movement is propagandistic crap. Seems the majority of the Unreasonably Insane reside in our Federal government and Media, unfortunately.
Owlgore he’s so cool! What is it Blod-O day at BH.
I would almost agree with that, but I reserve the term "evil" for people like saddam*. The people at the very top of the global warming pyramid, like Gore, must know it's a hoax. They're not in it to save anything. They're in it for power and money. Besides Gore himself, what cost him the 2000 election? The greenies backed Nadar. He's spent the last 9 years cementing them into the permanent, democratic coalition.
However, the well meaning, misinformed, modern liberals at the bottom of the period are just blindly following their leaders, as they always have, they aren't evil. That's why its so difficult fighting them. They are convinced they are saving the world.
And as we all know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
* I never capitalize the name of mass murders.
Eco-frauds, start your propaganda…
Man-made global warming is more irrational than ManBearPig….
My guess is they're no longer socialists and just haven't figured it out yet. The line about recognizing the need for jobs to alleviate poverty is a pretty good indication, they're coming around on economics.
I'll second that! Here in the Bay Area, I am usually forced to wait for DVD release of a lot of things I'd rather watch. Christian theme? Forget it…you'll have to drive 60 miles to the nearest theater showing it. Conservative documentary? They'd laugh in my face.
"If theres a new way Ill be the first in line, but, it better work this time"…………
p.s. I'm thinking that you will probably know where that line came from!?!?!
"If theres a new way Ill be the first in line, but, it better work this time"…………
Darkwolf I'm thinking that you will probably know where that line came from!?!?!
"British court case which ruled much of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” was either misleading or outright wrong."
Say it ain't so! How could this possibly be an agenda driven Truth. Could I think of 100 million reasons this is so. Nice bank account Mr. Gore and it only took you 10 years from being a tobacco farmer with only a couple mill in your account to what you are today!
There are no conservative reasonists. They are ALL psycho. There are also no conservatives any more. The last one died with Barry Goldwater. There are just a bunch of crybabies who demand everything be their way or they with throw a fit, break all the neighbor kids toys and run home crying about how everyone picks on them. That is the state of what passes for conservative thought since reagan the actor said it was good to be evil.
You might put me in the kook category with this statement.
Al Gore is in business with Canadian Maurice Strong who is a NWO billionaire. They want an international cap and trade system in place to siphon those taxes into a world bank that is larger than ours.
At first it will only control our economics. Eventually they intend to finance a UN blue cap rapist military with which to enforce their monetary policies as well as remove our Bill of Rights.
I believe that Gore is the dummy that he appears to be that somewhere inside of himself he is willing to collect his 2 billion as he passes GO whether or not the rest of us all lose our freedoms.
In some ways, he makes Saddam look like a piker.
Be sure to wear a helmet when you go outside.
I actually was forced to sit through "An Inconvenient Truth" at school. So I'm very much looking forward to this. Why hasn't this been made sooner? We needed this in 2007.
You're not a kook, you're right, power and money. Take a look at Obama's cabinet. The ruling elite has no intention of following the laws we will be forced to follow. They never have, and they never will. Just look at Gore's life style.
He might not end up making as much as he would with an international cap and tax, but what he will have is a seat at the table of power. And that is priceless.

Harry, your troll-fu is weak.
Harry, you liberals want the government to break our toys so you can implement your system which is designed to make you feel superior to others, just like your post is about how you're superior to us.
Ann and Phelim are not socialists. Did anyone pay attention to what the film is about. Her point is that this film is like the socialist documentaries about poor people but comes to a very different conclusion.
"They are ALL psycho."

That would be much more awesome.
The Ben Stein documentary Expelled had a very wide theatrical release.
Did you go see it?
Yup, thought so.
Conservatives. Do. Not. Watch. Documentaries.
I got it from Netflix. Very very interesting. Richard Dawkins had me laughing when he decided it would be plausible that aliens populated Earth but that "God" couldn't have.
Al Gore home has 24,000 square feet and his vacation homes have another 20,000 square feet..

I'm glad to see there are truth seekers willing to do this. I'm afraid this movie will be "preaching to the choir".
Anyone who spends any time considering the economics of third world countries and what it will take to move the people there from poverty to self-sufficiency becomes a conservative — at least about economic issues.
Thanks for illustrating my point. Filmmakers make next to nothing from NetFlix rentals. You cannot make a profit on a movie if the audience for that movie gets it from NetFlix. You make a profit from a movie through theater receipts and healthy DVD sales, domestic and foreign.
THIS is why few "conservative" films are made today. It will not (and can not) change until conservatives start going to theaters and buying DVDs as much as the left does.
So don't make "conservative" movies. Make good movies that embrace conservative and pro-freedom values. Braveheart would be an example.
I'll wait for 'Evil and Wrong.'
I bought Expelled, put it on my list to get for my liberal relatives for Christmas last year, and subsequently removed myself from anything having to do with the Smithsonian due to the firing of one of their staff because of his beliefs. I didn't go to see the movie in theatres because hubby doesn't like spending money on going to the movies. He'd rather buy computer crap instead. (He was a little miffed that I bought expelled.) And let's not forget the documentaries I watch on the History Channel, Mlitary Channel, E, and Biography. Please try not to generalize so much about the posters here. Every once in awhile we might surprise you.
Maybe just maybe if this comes from their own ranks they might just give it a thought or two.
are you sure he's a man?…
The only way to fight global warming is to build a Weather Dominator. COBRAAAA!!!
Great article Mr.Toto, I personally do not care if they are Conservatives, Liberals, or whatever as long as they are exposing this fraud which is Al Gore. this is a very important matter and I am glad that these people are confronting it- our country needs it. As for the journalists being blind-sighted in this film, they are always blind-sighted when their talking points are flattened. The Liberal journalists and the very people behind the global warming scam cannot take opposition, especially when the opposition has all the facts to destroy their arguments.

Okay, Glenn, make up your mind. Is it conservatives "do not watch documentaries" or is it "filmmakers don't make money on documentaries"? A guy says he watches them which counters your claim but because he rents them instead that backs up your premise? Waitaminite, stay on point if you would. I watch docs, too, but Stein's film didn't make it to my theaters so I'm not sure about that wide theatrical release you're talking about. Back up what you're saying. Where does it say that conservatives don't watch documentaries?
Heck, even liberals aren't flocking to Michael Moore films anymore. "Sicko" was hardly a blip on the radar and it's been downhill for him ever since.
I'm not convinced if you have to make their points for them.
So that's what I said? If you think putting words in people's mouths (or keyboards) is what passes for intelligent discussion, then you are exhibit A in what's wrong with political discourse in this country.
The filmmaker's say it's a socialist movie and it's being trumpeted on a supposedly conservative web site. I can do the math here. Can you?
Actually, isn't that what this site is about – fostering and promoting conservatives and conservative ideas in art and the media. I would probably have not heard about this documentary with out this site (unless perhaps Drudge linked it). But now I have, and now I intend to see it. So while you may be partially right, the time's – they might – be a-changin', my friend. At least, as a conservative, I sure hope so!
No. Not your kind of math. Conservatives deal in facts and truth. If a socialist movie uses facts and truth, I'm fine with that. Is 2+2=4 socialist or conservative? Since it has been that way for several centuries, it actually doesn't sound "progressive" so it must be conservative. Maybe this is a conservative film in "liberal" clothing.
Well, son, you obviously don't get out a whole lot. And I have to ask this question because I'm a masochist so here goes: You do know that CO2 is an ESSENTIAL gas needed to keep plant life, and subsequently herbivore/omnivore life, thereby keeping carnivore life alive don't you? Or did my biology teacher mislead me? There is a much simpler solution than the shell game that is called Cap and Trade (or Crap on Americans then tax the dookie out of them). PLANT MORE TREES! Put a cap on just how small a house lot can be. If a lot size can't support a moderately tall tree, the LOT IS TOO SMALL!! There were volumes of books written in the 80's and 90's about the various kinds of plants that will gladly absorb pollutants. Cap and Trade is ever so much about keeping the status quo in place. It's not about reducing emissions. It's about our loonies in office making money for themselves. They could give a rats furry butt about the environment, hence the carbon units and taxpayer money expended on date night in NYC. Get wise SOON!
That's what it read like to me: "So now conservatives accept socialism as long as it blasts Al Gore and global warming?"
How else do we interpret that but a ham-handed attempt to find some hypocrisy in our position here? More people agree or disagree on MMGW than just an even split down ideology lines. I know conservatives who buy into MMGW. I also know leftists who think it's a crock. If I were to enter an argument with the two described above, I'd be arguing with the leftist against the conservative because I back by positions rather than simply following an ideological soul-mate.
"Peace Sells, but Who's Buying", ~ Megadeth
I agree, you cannot do my kind of math, which includes the rule of non-contradiction. Since conservatives presumably believe that socialism does not deal in facts and truth, your comment is self-defeating. Assuming you fancy yourself a conservative, that is.
Please consult your reading comprehension assistant. Hypocrisy, of which I am almost certain you do not know the definition, has nothing to do with it. It has to do with—well, forget it. I already explained in earlier posts but it's apparently beyond you.
Knew you'd get it……I have a nephew who recently discovered Megadeth, so I've been "attempting" to teach him some of there works. In the course of doing this I started to re-read some of Mustain's lyrics. It's almost creepy how many of his political songs fit with the current "Dictatorship". One song "Hook In Mouth" kinda sum's it all up…..Don't know what any of this has to do with the anything, just the ramblings of a old headbanger……..
I think Glenn is saying they'll not be resounding successes like Moore's have been and we know they won't get on the Academy's short list (which is another way for them to be successful).
I did go to the theater for Expelled and have rented most of the other docs mentioned via Netflix…however, as a filmmaker who has movies in release via Netflix and other outlets, I can attest that not much money is made from Netflix…it gets penetration (4 Million subscribers COULD rent and see my movie) but doesn't generate much income to the filmmaker.
That said, would love to see films like the one described. Just challenge the cult, see what happens. Hopefully that will happen more…I don't just want to see conservatives challenge these ideas…because sometimes they're too concerned with being RIGHT as well rather than getting to an objective sort of common good.
We need more true independent thinkers.

Again I quote you: "So now conservatives accept socialism as long as it blasts Al Gore and global warming?" You know that conservatives are anti-socialism. You read the article that says that these people profess this film to be a “It’s a liberal, socialist film. It’s about poor people in Africa and America.” Then, you see all us poor, stupid conservatives agreeing that we like this film and agree with the filmmakers. Ergo, we must also secretly be pro-socialist or endorsing socialism since that's what the filmmakers say this film really is a “liberal, socialist film. It’s about poor people in Africa and America.” (pt 1)
So, hypocrisy, which my dictionary tells me means "the practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; insincerity" (thought I should check since you seemed so sure I was wrong) is indeed what you seem to be snidely hinting at. How can we loudly denounce socialism and then support a “liberal, socialist film” unless we're all a bunch of big hypocrits? That in a nutshell seems to sum up your argument which is made in a single sentence. If you have more of an argument to make, then next time explain yourself. (pt. 2)
PS – The heavy use of ad hominem does nothing to strengthen your position.
he's manbearpig
indeed, subject matter written concerning the fears of dictatorial/totalitarian type statism… raging against a machine that is only now showing it's ugly heads in daylight.
And we old headbangers are still around and ready to rock. I'm just lucky I'm far along enough in my profession that I can still keep all my headbanger hair.
This Yeah-person is just a troll. It came to poop on the floor and run out the back door.
Second that. When you live in hyper-lib areas with few theaters…good freakin' luck.
Lucky indeed. In my day to day I found that the average BMW or Benz owner really didn't appreciate "Heavy Metal" hair, so it had to go……….Damn those rich liberals………Beside that the gray was creapin' in early so I started to look to much like an Old San Fran Hippie. Yuk!
Actually, my husband and I went to see it in theatres because it was in our theatre for a change. The film interested both of us because we like Ben Stein; it was of particular interest to my husband because he's a microbiologist and a Christian. We also wanted to see how the views in the film went with Francis Collins' book _The Language of God_.
You know what they say about assumptions?
(As for folks not doing theatres, we've found the one time of day and week when almost no matter what the release, you're almost guaranteed to have the theatre mostly to yourself. First showing on a Sunday morning. It works like a charm.)
yikes… yes, one cannot abide the aging San Fran Hippie look. that's why I'm going biker.

But the judge in the case didn't find that Gore's movie was substantially wrong. On 35 allegations of error, the judge found Gore's film correct on 26 items, wrong on the other 9 issues, but only because Gore didn't present arguments from opposing political sides.
That's not factual error.
And significantly the judge agreed that the overall points of the film are correct — warming occurs, it is due significantly to human action, and humans should act to stop it.
In sum, this new film is both evil and wrong:
