Hollywood won’t give up on Bush
by Christian TotoThought “hope” and “change” might rule Hollywood now that President George W. Bush has moved back to Texas?
Apparently not.
Variety’s Anne Thompson reports the comedy “In the Loop,” what she dubs a “raucously funny indictment of what went on behind-the-scenes in Washington and London to lead to the war in Iraq,” got snatched up at the Sundance Film Festival. IFC bought the U.S. distribution rights to the film, which co-stars James Gandolfini.
I guess the fact that nearly every Iraq war film has flopped spectacularly convinced the buyers they couldn’t pass this one up.
Remember the days when show business was … a business?
Me neither.

The jelly beans on the idiotic President's desk in "Clear and Present Danger" came 5 years after Reagan left office. Expect it to take at least that long before you no longer encounter a "Bush wack" in some Hollywood movie.
Anne Thompson, who regularly posts idiotic "missives" from Michael Moore on her blog, says she "tilts left of center," but it's more than tilting – she's lying flat on her left side.
When angry liberals think of Bush, they say the same thing that The Joker said to Batman in TDK: "what would I do without you? You complete me." What would liberals do if they didn't have a rich, white Republican to blame for all of their problems?
I’m sure there will be a flood of comments about how Hollywood isn’t really Liberal and we’re all just paranoid. The fact that they are willing to take loss after loss to attack Bush and Conservatives, merely a coincidence.
The fact is, to be ‘cool’ is to hate Dubya. Now, think. Who wants to stop being ‘cool’???
Funny, I figured Gandolfini would be better suited to play the lead in a Clinton Era movie. If you know what I mean.
These people are delusional.
Any more the entire film industry seems more interested in destroying any image they can than lifting anything up. It sounds like it’s going to be one long fart joke.
Remember when they were saying – move on – get over it. Remember when Disagreement was patriotic – like Washington, Jefferson, etc. Now, Move on – unless you are picking on Republicans. Unity – think as one – Disagreement is un-patriotic now? Can anyone say, Weimar Republic, Saddam, Kim Ill Sung, et al.
I’ve always said there is no cure for Bush Derangement Syndrome, people merely live with it and foster it.
Madelyn, are you black? Was that first one a declarative sentence? Or are your “‘hood” comments just garden-variety racism on your part?
I am a contrarian by nature. I don’t submit to group thought ever. And this is no different.
What do you expect from people that have run their mouths about living under a repressive regime for the last 8 years, while actually being able to rant and rave without fear of repression. In the next few years, something will happen to reopen the eyes of the majority of this country that we are at war with an extremist ideology that wishes us harm.
She would be excellent as the head (oops lead) player in a Billie movies.
Lola, Obama has been president for 4 days. The economy has been in the toilet for months. We have been shedding jobs for months. The financial sector has been crashing for months. You can thank the incompetent imbecile and undeniable war criminal George W. Bush for leaving a gargantuan mess that the grown-ups will now have to clean up.
There is no defense possible for the worst president in US history. He didn’t “keep us safe!” He didn’t even act on the PDB that said we were imminent targets! Where was he BEFORE 9/11? 9/11 happened on the Bush/Cheney watch. And then these morons destroyed the near-unanimous good will domestically and abroad by starting a war with the WRONG COUNTRY!
What part of this do you not understand? You do follow the news, right? Or were the last 8 years all lies generated by the demon “left-wing press?”
George W. Bush in the rear-view mirror was the best thing this country has seen since Election Day 2000 (or at least the day the Supreme Court appointed Dubya to the office.)
Well, you left out some pertinent detail. IFC bought the movie for less than a million bucks. And it’ll be part of the date/date release — which means it’ll play on TV at the same time it’s playing in a theater or two.
I’m not sure this qualifies as an indictment anything, including Hollywood.
Uh, Ben? Your caps lock key is stuck.
Ben: the Fost/Nixon interviews were legendary. Nixon agreed due to the dough, and the thought that he could get his side out. In case you don’t read much–a leap, I know–his declaration that “if the president does it, it’s not illegal” was, indeed, “new.”
Really, Ben: read something other than right-wing blogs sometime, and you might actually learn something.
“Which co-stars James Gandolfini.” That sucks! Suddenly, Tony Soprano just aint so cool anymore!
Gee, Jim: you’ve worked in the White House since 1789?
All one needs to do is listen to Bush’s own administration officials talk about his disengaged management of the office of the presidency; listen to his own people tell how Bush/Cheney swayed everything to make it appear Iraq was somehow also responsible for 9/11, etc., etc., etc.
And, yes! I do blame everything after 2000 on the Bush Administration! Genious, he was the “Decider!” He said so himself!
Mission accomplished!
If you are among the 22% or so who continue to defend that imbecile, that’s your problem. All I know is that he’s not OUR problem, anymore.
Now let’s get all their a$$e$ for war crimes, and close the damn book on a disaster.
Actually, HuffPo and other left websites won’t let go of Bush. It’s become pretty pathetic. Same with Palin. It seems that they are struggling to find other things to write about. But, very entertaining.
Ben, did you see the real interviews, or just the movie? Did you not know the story of them? Did you not also know that to get Nixon to utter those words on TV–not relying on supposed-to-be secret office tapes–was a huge moment? It was–and is–supremely historical, and allowed anybody watching to see a disgraced leader unravel in front of their eyes.
If you don’t find that to be valuable in a free society, I seriously question what you really think a free society is.
JIM:
If George Bush would have done half the illegal things, extremists like yourself believe, he would have been impeached at the least. As far as the economy, the media and Dems have been declaring it’s in a shambles for almost 8 years. If I’m wrong about how evil Bush has been according to those like you; when are we realeasing all those poor leftist fools that have been running their mouths for the last 8 years from the gulags?
You really don’t read the Congresional Record, do ya, Yatyas? Because if you did, you’d understand a couple of things: *1, it was a Republican congress until 2006. After that, in 2006 and beyond, Nancy Pelosi was on record as saying that “now is not the time” to run impeachment hearings. Yes, Yatyas, the evil Pelosi was on your side! Some of us didn’t like it, but oh well.
I don’t know who the “poor leftist fools” in the “gulags” are supposed to be; our chief complaint on Bush (other than gross incompetence as a whole) has been his condoning of torture, which, A: doesn’t work (as even the “experts” in the military will tell you) and “B”, is unAmerican AND illegal.
“Extremists” like me? Sorry, but it wasn’t our side that started an illegal war against the wrong enemy, watched New Orleans get destroyed due to incompetence and delay, or ruined the reputation of this great country for years to come (if you don’t believe that, you are a Fantasy Man.)
You 22%-ers, talk amongst yourselves….
Bill Clinton wasn’t reading :”My Pet Goat” when 9/11 hit. Bill Clinton wasn’t the president that day, remember?
And you are being disingenuous. During the transition, Clinton administration officials were ON RECORD as repeatedly stressing the need to concentrate on bin Laden (his family was a Bush family friend, BTW; their families did business together–look it up.)
Read Richard Clarke’s book. Listen to Colin Powell (now), listen even to Scott McClellan.
But you’ll believe whatever you want to believe about George W. Bush, the biggest piece of $hit to ever get his portrait hung in the White House.
*Sigh*
I was really hoping for better from James Gandolfini.
Kevlaur, you are wrong about the banner. Even Bush admitted it was wrong and that he regretted it.
You are absolutely right about the weak-willed Dems that voted for that stupid war, Kevlaur.
But you are absolutely wrong about waterboarding. The tortured will say ANYTHING.
Do some research, will ya, tough guy? Trying to communicate with you is CERTAINLY torture.
JIM:
I would rather be part of the 22% that is right than part of the rest that are wrong. Pelosi and the rest did not push for impeachment because they either didn’t have enough to pass it or are afraid for the public too know how they were in agreement with the president immediately after 9/11. As far as torture, most on the left consider anything used to get information as torture unless you ask the terrorists very nicely.
Frankly, as a retired GySgt with time in Iraq, I’m against real torture because it makes it hard to prosecute an enemy when he uses it. Not using torture does not stop our enemies from using on our troops or civilians. The only enhanced interrogation techniques that I would possibly consider to be close to real torture would be water boarding. By the way, those found to be in violation of the guidelines like those at Abu Ghraib have been punished.
We have been in a low intensity conflict with Iraq since I left Kuwait in 1991, so we had every reason to invade due to Saddam’s ceasefire violations. I take it you think everything would be better if Saddam still ran Iraq with an iron fist and a wood chipper. The beginning of the problems with Katrina are due to the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans. Once involved, FEMA did not do as good a job as should be expected. It is amazing how you don’t hear about Mississippi also hit hard by Katrina, though of course local government did a lot better than Louisiana.
I don’t live in a fantasy world, but the real world with over seven years spent serving overseas in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. By the way, I don’t worship Bush and do believe he made mistakes as president I just don’t believe he was evil or an imbecile, but a man leading this country at the beginning of a long war. I would have more respect for those criticizing him if they would have offered ideas to win vice just to give up. Geez, forgot to use KISS…Keep It Short Stupid.
Hollywood has been a conduit for leftist foo-fah ever since the end of WWII, but it’s become almost unbearable during the past couple decades, though. It’s hard to watch any movie [no matter the subject] or a TV series of any kind without having to pick the lefty turds out of your teeth afterwords…
Here’s the NY Times talking about whether new plays on War can be popular with theater-goers, completely from the typical “Bush Lied, People Died” meme we come to expect from the Times:
“Of War, Peace and Paying Customers”
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/25/theater/25heal.html?_r=1&ref=arts
Enemies? What enemies? It’s as if you decided after a couple years that you were sick of fighting Nazis or the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere and decided to go home. “Hey, great. War’s over.” (Meanwhile Germans mass-produce jet bombers and perfect multi-stage V rockets launched from snorkle U-Boats, and before you know it NYC and the DC are in ruins.) “You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.” (also, I’m with yatyas.)
So Bush is becoming his own entertainment sub-genre. Never seen a business creation dedicated solely to losing money hand over fist. It’s a twisted version of “The Producers.”
MIKEHU:
Looked at the NY Times article that you linked and almost lost my dinner. There will come a time just like after Vietnam were the veterans will be honored for their service and the leftist idiots of Hollywood will fall all over themselves trying to play heroes.
This is a great website even with some of the loonies that post; it allows shooting down their misguided rants.
Samuel said….Ben: the Fost/Nixon interviews were legendary. Nixon agreed due to the dough, and the thought that he could get his side out. In case you don’t read much–a leap, I know–his declaration that “if the president does it, it’s not illegal” was, indeed, “new.”

Yes, ‘Legendary’ is a good word to describe the movie. Just ask Frost, who after seeing it said it was complete fiction (although entertaining). There was a great interview with one of Nixon’s surrogates that gave the entire backdrop to how the famous interview happened and what was said (and then the second interview, which was arranged because the first was so boring that Frost’s people said they couldn’t air it). Nixon’s remarkable declaration was not a result of Frost’s brilliant line of questioning, but because of Nixon’s ego and frustration with how he was being portrayed in the media. It was an important historical moment, but nothing that people weren’t already aware of if they paid attention to the news of the day.
As to the goofs who still say 9/11 was Bush’s fault, evidently you guys don’t do any reading of history yourselves. There was a policy put in place during the Clinton administration that limited the amount of communication between the FBI & CIA (helped to be pushed through by our soon-to-be Attorney General). There was enough intel between the two agencies that 9/11 could have been prevented, but as the 9/11 Commission reported, the policy of limiting their communication kept both agencies in the dark. I know I’ll sleep better knowing that one of the guys behind the most disastrous policy of the 90s (and one who recommended pardons of Mark Rich and the FALN terrorists) will be setting legal policies for the next 4 – 8 years. But you guys keep on complaining about a handful of US attorneys getting fired for not doing their jobs. That should keep us safe.
I mentioned this on another forum, but I think it’s worth repeating. I figured that after the innauguration, the libs, lefties, and loons would go off on an orgy of self congratulation, forget about us, and get to work healing Gaia or something. Not the case.
It seems like BDS has metastisized into some new and far more virulent strain of mental illness. I thought hopium was a sedative. Turns out it’s more like a rage inducing mix of methamphetamine, and PCP, with a side order of jimson weed, and some brown acid thrown in for good measure.
Interesting times.

One day a worthy adversary will appear on these message boards. But for now, we have our JIM. Let his nervous, little fingers type what they will, as he will soon run out of cliches.
Why is it when the left talks, acts or yes even posts, I hear this:http://www.8notes.com/school/riffs/clarinet/laurel_and_hardy.asp
Carolyn, I’m confused. I thought people who disagreed with you lived in their mother’s basements. Are you suggesting that in fact they are homeless and live in cardboard boxes? This is a new insult iteration and I want to be sure you cleared it with Lola.
By the way, and with great detail please, exactly what kind of house do you live in?
we used to have this cartoonist at the L. A. Times named paul conrad. thirty years after the fact he was still drawing nixon cartoons. every morning was a struggle to connect some random world event back to watergate.
not sure he’s still alive. but if he is, i picture him in a nursing home blaming tricky dick for the reason his grandkids don’t call.
every generation of liberals has it’s boogeyman, and they will never let go.
All I read is left vs. right BS. Keep following the whichever sheep herder’s in charge! They both work for the same slaughterhouse anyhow, Wake up.
Ah geez. Their half-hearted 9/11 tribute films were sad and few. They so damned scared that the guy at the falafel stand is an Al Queda agent, they won’t speak out about what happened to that Dutch filmmaker because they’re cowards! That’s right! COWARDS!
I would of loved to seen them show some true guts and patriotism after 9/11, but there was only so much of that. Now, they’re like ‘we all have to do our part.’
No, stupid people, we’ll do that part, you can shut up.

Jim,
You conveniently forgot one thing. The economy, employment, the stock market, were all humming until the democrats and nancy pelosi et al took over the congress. President Bush and Republicans are on record warning them about Fannie and Freddie. How about looking at the record of jimmy carter and bill b#*@job clinton, barney frank, chris dodd and dingy harry reid and their pivitol role in involving government in banking and housing. Didn’t the timing of all of this give you a little pause? It all hit the fan in Oct. before an election that a Republican was moving ahead. Can you say ‘October Surprise’? The left lives by one main tenet,THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS. You lefties continue to bring up President Bush reading a book about a goat to children when the planes hit. Do you think that he got up that day and thought, oh well, there’s going be a terrorist attack on New York today, I think I’ll go read a book about a goat to some kids. I think that psychiatrist is right, liberalism is a mental disorder.
The best thing for any GOP candidate to do right now is lay low and let the Democrats start to eat at each other. Without the great devil, GWB to blame for every ill in the world, the gang will have to start to devour its young.
This will be fun to watch. Hey, when you have the keys to the shop, its hard to blame the guy who came before, at least for too long.
Joe Weldon.
Very well done. Nice post!
We need more Jim’s so people can see just what kind of spiteful, far left hatred is leading this country now.
And Hollywierd wonders why we don’t go to movies. Every hollywood idiot that opesn his mouth to tell me how to vote, how to think gets their name on the list and I will never view them again. That list is getting long.
Dream on leftist idiots. . . . Oops, that’s a redundancy, isn’t it?

Okay, so you’re saying Obama inherited the problem, he shouldn’t be lambasted for something he didn’t create – crummy argument, given obie’s complicity in the fnma/freddy mac debacle as a senator and legal advocate, but for the sake of brevity I’ll grant it- one shouldn’t be blamed for something that came to fruition before they took power.
Funny how you don’t apply this same logic to bin Laden and 9/11. That plan was apparently in the making for a year or two before being executed- given perpetrators had to go through flight school, I’d say that’s a fair assessment. And if obl purportedly so dangerous, as you claim the clinton’s were howling about during the transition, how come they didn’t take him off the street when given two chances during clinton’s regime?
Hypocritical, Jim. Lazy and hypocritical thinking. You fail.
The Hollywood Left just can’t quit President Bush.
Can your doctor recommend something to ease the lying?
See, that’s why I enjoy your posts so much, Bilfy. You take a detailed post that explains factually why you’re wrong, then don’t present any evidence to contradict a single part, instead choosing to ask about my doctor. You truly are the King of non-sequitors (although that doesn’t translate into any actual knowledge that could be useful in a discussion, unfortunately).
I think Hollywood will line up for bailout money due to all the Bush bashing movies that tank.
Now let’s get all their a$$e$ for war crimes, and close the damn book on a disaster.
Is this parody ? Your other post didn’t seem parody but this is hilarious. Thanks for a laugh.
Brave post there, Ms. Blifil.
Says a ton about your side.
BTW, got a website or Facebook link? I'd love to learn more about you.
It’s been said that insults are the greatest form of flattery. Bush really got under their skin because he wouldn’t let Gore steal the election-everything else pales in comparison. This inspired the Governor of Washington and the Minnesotas would-be Senator

This may be true, but I know the movie “Hurt Locker” was picked up by Summit at the Venice Film Festival. It is supposed to be a difficult but politically neutral account of events in the Iraq war. It is just the soldiers’ story. So there is hope that the subject will be treated fairly in Hollywood.
When Bush ran for President he expressed a desire to change the tone in Washington, tamp down the partisan rancor and work across the aisle for the common good. In that respect, President Obama is just like President Bush.
The MoveOn and DailyKos folks didn’t care much for that idea then, and they don’t now. Puts me in mind of the fable of the scorpion and the frog – it’s just who they are.
The country is now so big that you can make money with stuff aimed at 15% of the market, I guess. They were delusional during the past 8 years. Why expect them to recover overnight? Most of them can’t have a conversation about anything without tying some lame “I hate Bush” reference into it. They’re really boring. Maybe they’ll realize it by the time Obama is out of office.
Why is it whenever I read an Ernie Mannix contribution to this site I am entertained and enlightened? It is because of his wry wit and his insight into the minds of the simple, eight-noters, the closeted sexists who fear Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter.
How come no one is making a Clinton movie? I am sure that there are some screenwriters/writers on this site. What in the hell are you waiting for? Again, more complaining more the right than action…typical
Jim, I agree completely with Ken H. Had Clinton been more committed to the safety of this country than with his “image” abroad, 9/11 wouldn’t have happened. The WTC was attacked on Clinton’s watch and he turned the other way. Bush was left cleaning up the results of Slick Willey’s self serving politics. Do us all a favor Jim, and get back on your Xanax. Maybe it will help you calm yourself long enough to go out and get a job. Waiting for the Obamessiah’s welfare check, or, excuse me, “tax relief” to arrive in your mailbox will no doubt be a disappointment when it finally makes it to your door. It’s easy to sit back and practice “Hind Sight” wisdom …. other than criticize, what have you actually done to make this country great?
I live in a condo in Dallas. I went to SERE school, and I certainly don’t consider anything “torture” that we subject our own servicemen to in training. “Mission Accomplished!” It was for the carrier you goofball.
In the Loop was awesome. I'm a conservative who was heavily in favor of the war, but the movie seems to be more anti-polticians if anything. Its quite hilarious and worth checking out.
