‘Boys of Summer’ (with Apologies to Don Henley)
by Chuck DeVoreSung to the tune of “The Boys of Summer“:
Obama overload
Obama overreach
We feel it everywhere
Trillions in the breach
Empty bank, empty Street
Dollar goes down alone
Pelosi’s in the House
So we now all must atone
But we can see through-
Your broken promises oh One
You got your head cocked back and your teleprompter on, maybe
And can we tell you our love for you will still be strong
After the hope of November’s gone?
We never will forget those nights
We wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made us crazy?
Remember how we made you beam
Now we do understand what happened to our love
Barack, we’re gonna cut no slack
We’re gonna show you what we’re made of
We can see through–
Your broken promises oh One
We see you talkin’ real slow and you’re smilin’ at everyone
Can we tell you our love for you will still be strong
After the hope of November’s gone?
Out on the road today, I saw a OBAMA sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice Inside my head said, “Don’t look back. You can never look back.”
We thought we knew what love was
What did we know?
Those days are gone forever
We should just let them go but-
We can see through-
Your broken promises oh One
You got that Rush pulled down and talk radio gone, maybe
And can we tell you our love for you will still be strong
After the hope of November’s gone?
We can see through-
Your broken promises oh One
You got your head cocked back and your teleprompter on, maybe
Can we tell you our love for you will still be strong
After the hope of November’s gone?

On behalf of many teenage summer nights spent bellowing out Henley with friends in parking lots, how dare you.
Pretty good. That was an entertaining piece.
When they came for the light bulbs,
I remained silent;
I could use one of those stupid screw shaped bulbs if it was for the good of the environment.
Then they said they wanted to tax the rich.
Fine with me, I thought.
I'm not rich.
Then they forbid the secret union vote,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a member of a union.
Then they came for the Christian Right,
I did not speak out;
Because "those in the know" had informed me that although I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, I was not a Christian.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out for me.
So my husband and I loaded and drew our guns and took out a bunch of them on our front lawn.
Dang, I wish I had a mess of incandescent bulb using, rich, right wing union member Christian gun toters beside me now!
He'll probably sue you.
Weird Al and I still have a right to parody… Bring it on!
I hope a talented Big Hollywood singer will record this for YouTube…
That's the spirit. Heh heh.
How about a conservative take on 'All She Want's to do is Dance'; Henley's most political track ever? that would be fun…
"Dirty Laundry"
'the bubble headed bleach blonde comes on at 5… she'll tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye…
it's interesting whenpeople die- gives us Dirty Laundry…' great stuff from a gifted lyricist…
Aaaaall He wants to do is taaaaaaax, tax.
too funny, way to funny……but sadly true
Mike Campbell, Petty's right hand man, a damn fine blues player and the writer of "Boys of Summer," is probably too stoned (not that there's anything too wrong with that) to notice if a parody were done.
You don't really even need to change the words to the Beatles song "Taxman." Says it all right there.
If i were as rich as Mike, that's what I'd do as well, because I have all confidence in my military when it's crunch time.

as Krusty would say- 'me likee!"…
Not, "Me rikey"?
Yes! Was just thinking it would be even better as a video, maybe with a child holding a "I'm paying your mortgage" sign a la the Tea Party protests instead of playing the drums…
I'm not rich, and I don't belong to a union, but can I join up anyway?

Since the Eagles are my all-time favorite band, and since Henley led most of their best songs, how about a new Obama version of "The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks?"
Pitch Perfect words of the teleprez's actions in such a small space of time. I sang the lines and -though awful as is my voice- enjoyed the rhythm!
Or a Lazy Afternoon in the summertime by the Kinks.
We need an Obama impersonator to record this!
And I saw that picture, and prayed for sharks. And didn't care which party they were from.
Oh.My.Gosh! I love it!
I'm rather ashamed I didn't come up with it myself!
