‘Idol’ Reaction Proves Immutable Law: LLTL
by Cam CannonLIBERALS LOVE TO LOSE. When liberals lose, it enables them to feel more superior than they naturally feel. It affords them the opportunity to bitch about injustice and unfairness.
When they win, hell, it was a fair fight. They never, while basking in the glow of a victory, say, “Whew. Thank God the unfairness worked out in our favor this time!” or “The voting machines finally worked!”
They also hedge their bets before a contest, positioning themselves as the enlightened open-minded ones and their opposition as gun and religion loving inbreds before the actual contest has gone down, so in the event of a defeat, they’re prepared to act like victims rather than losers.
I’m referring, of course, to the phenomenal “American Idol” finale, an event that capped off an unbelievably good season of TV. From “Fringe” and “Idol,” to “Friday Night Lights” and “The Office” — and finally to “Lost,” I’ve loved the stuff on the tube this winter/spring. I treated last night’s “Idol” fantastically cheesy finale as a season ending celebration of great TV.
Leave it to a bunch of activist reality TV voters to crap on the whole thing.
It started Wednesday morning with screaming headlines, coyly and dishonestly put in the form of a question: “Will Idol finale be Red State vs. Blue State?”
The answer, of course, is “That’s the stupidest question I’ve ever heard!” But by putting the question out there, the New York Daily News and others have legitimized debating the outcome along these lines. Gracious in defeat was glam rocker Adam Lambert, but not so his allegedly blue state fanbase.
They secretly love that he lost, because it gives them a chance to viciously rip into “homophobic middle and Southern America”, you know – those drooling mouth breathing red-staters. Homophobia is the best excuse running. According the Nikki “Toldya!” Finke and others, “Brokeback Mountain” lost the Oscar to “Crash” because of homophobia. Lambert lost to Allen because of homophobia. It’s laughable how married they are to this idea (gay marriage?). It can’t be that people just liked “Crash” better, and according to Jim David over at Huffington Post Hucanwhinethe Most, homophobia is the only reason THE ONLY REASON that “the better singer” didn’t win.
I happen to agree with their opinion that “Brokeback” is better than “Crash,” but here’s the thing: they don’t think it’s an opinion. It’s fact.
You cannot possibly prefer “Crash” to “Brokeback” or Kris Allen to Adam Lambert, except of course, if you’re a raging homophobe. This is the only explanation. And David has since clarified his position, defended himself as not liberal but moderate. Fine, but dude, you also said you wish the music professionals would have the final say on the show. What’s the point of a show, then? The premise of the show is that America votes! It’s like replacing Jake Gyllenhall with Maggie Gyllenhall in “Brokeback Mountain.”
You know how many rednecks I heard blaring “Judas Priest” and “Queen” while growing up in Powder Springs, Georgia? The notion that a person living in a red state not embracing an artist, particularly a singer, because the singer is gay or liberal is absurd. Eminem is from a blue state, and has repeatedly come under fire for being homophobic. My favorite bands are liberal (Beastie Boys, Public Enemy) and in one case fronted by a man who’s at least as sexually ambiguous as Glambert (R.E.M.), and guess what?
I DO NOT CARE. I remember reading when I was a teenager that R.E.M.’s “So. Central Rain (I’m Sorry)” was about a dude. This was before homosexuality was the cause celebre, and while I will admit I found it strange, it never made me change the station when it came on, or fast-forward the cassette (we used to have these things called cassettes, kids, they predated CDs and – Oh, CD is short for compact disc…nevermind). No, I warbled along with Stipe, making up lyrics in the spots where he mumbled, which was let’s be honest, for most of the song.
The truth is, Southerners usually win “Idol,” usually against a runner-up who’s – guess what? – Southern. But the whackos have disingenuously decided to decry the outcome this year to further disparage the South specifically, and red state voters in general, because it gives them a chance to sound open-minded, when in fact they sound stupid.
They’re glad Lambert lost, because it gives them yet another chance to be victimized vicariously through someone else.

Good read and very well said. Libs DO love to lose so they can have something to cry about. You hit the nail on the head. SInce they never contribute anything to any conversation unless it's whining about something being "racist," "homophobic," "hateful" and whatever other PC b.s. they want to label anyone and anything that doesn't agree with they think.
Cam, I get your point, and mostly agree. But you say homophobia like it's a bad thing.
I have no problem admitting I voted for Kris because Adam sounded like a bad impression of Axel Rose AND grossed me out as a heterosexual. Kris Allen is super talented (the Kieth Urban performance was the best of the night by anyone on stage) and given his spirit and faith, I openly prefer a guy like that impacting the entertainment industry over a guy like Adam Lambert in all his fairy-bat-winged, dude-snogging glory.
The liberals apparently have an entire playbook of group victim excuses for any loss of any kind. This blue state/red state, gay/straight, pseudo-goth/Christian argument should have come as no surprise to any of us, either in its timing or its ferocity. Frankly, I'm more surprised by the rather widespread reaction to the ridiculous charges than I was by the charges themselves.
The left always gravitates away from democracy and popular will and toward either authoritarianism or coercion because they know that most people, if given a choice, will not go along with their ideas nor vote for them. This leaves them looking for ways to not give people a choice, whether it's implementing their agenda through the courts and bureaucrats or wishing to not let common Americans vote for the American idol.
Homophobia isn't a bad thing?
I'm gay, liberal, and I think that it's ridiculous that people are making this into a homphobia thing. Adam was gay the entire competition and it never hindered him. What, people JUST started to question his sexuality during the last week?
It all comes down to numbers — Danny Gokey was voted off and all of his supporters went for Kris. Both Kris and Adam are talented guys. It was a tight race. There you have it. No need for conspiracy theories.
Then again, we have ignorant comments from people like Splash and it does make me wonder…
I'm blaming this on Bill O'Reilly. He's the one who tried bringing Adam's sexuality to the forefront over and over again. If he hadn't done that, it would have been a non-issue.
whew, i was worried there would be no scapregoat, but O'Reilly it is. an all-purpose bogeymen, yeay
Maybe you should rewatch Crash. I think it won the Oscar because every single white person in it committed an evil act, and every black or hispanic behaved with decency.
Adam is gay? 1) so what and b) I voted for him and I'm from a red state. Oh, and I'm military (*gasp*) and guess what, many of us watch Idol (yes, we're men) and guess what x2? Most of us prefered Adam over Kris because, another shock forthcoming, HE WAS THE BETTER SINGER.
But, I'm guessing that this will be another Rueben Studdard year (uh-oh, I voted for Rueben too, but not because Aiken is gay…because I thought Reuben sang better)…Adam will still sell more albums. We've already gone to iTunes and bought almost all of Adam's songs…..and none of Kris's.
I am not a liberal. I am a Ron Paul supporter. But I know talent when I see it. Sorry to disappoint you but if you track Google Tends Adam has more attention in every state but Arkansas. Adam’s loss had nothing to do with his sexuality. Most straight women I know think he is sizzling hot. I am a 24 year old model, my friends are beautiful young women that would like to change Adam's mind. Why Adam did not win is because the backward state of Arkansas took it upon them self to pick the idol for the whole country. Check out “Operation Ding Dong” and KrisAllenation.com . Kris knew what his fan sites were doing because they talk about contact with him. The whole state cheated to the tune of over 38 million votes. Kris is a little mouse of a man with dismal talent. He is fading into obscurity as we speak.
Yep. Bill O'Reilly and American Idol = exact same demographic
So you're saying Lambert has been Prejeaned??
Having never dated a model, I've always wondered which issues models deem important and where they concentrate their intellectual effort outside the studio.
American Idol Voter Fraud
Now I know.
Main Entry: ho·mo·pho·bia
Pronunciation: ˌhō-mə-ˈfō-bē-ə
Function: noun
Date: 1969
: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals
— ho·mo·pho·bic -ˈfō-bik adjective
Bill said Adam was talented and that should be the deciding factor.
How is that Bill's fault that he lost?
Dont hold back;' what do you really think..
BTW-Suggest you spend more time on other issues. AI is not really that important.
I don't get how that's a response.
Now we have conspiracy theories about American Idol winners? Just remember fire never melted steel and only a conspiracy of eville mastermind rednexx could possibly bring down the inevitable Adam win. Its the only explanation that makes sense!
Oh I don't think it's Bill's fault that he lost. It's no one's fault that he lost. I'm just saying Bill shouldn't have posted the pictures of him making out with another guy, make a big deal about it, and then in the same breath say that he's talented. Were there pictures of Kris making out with his wife?
I think the thought was put in people's heads because of the media's focus on Adam's sexuality — left and right alike.
I like to blame Bill for most things.
Btw Megan, if the first thing in your post is a statement that you aren't a liberal, odds are you're a liberal. Especially if you follow the typical moby format of "I"m not a liberal but (longwinded left wing diatribe)." or "As a lifelong republican I just have to say, (long winded left wing diatribe)." We see a lot of that kind of thing around here. Even us inbred redneck hicks can spot it.
You had me til the last paragraph… this was pushed out as an excuse by the grievance mongers, sorry Ricky. I think you are on the right track of starting to question your would be leftist masters and their thought police though. Keep reading here and maybe try some Gay Patriot. An open mind works both ways.
What the stupid MSM has forgotten is that the majority of Idol voters are teeny boppers. Teeny boppers could care less if someone is gay or not, not in this day and age do they care. Another thing that I think comes into play here is that Idol itself can be "rigged" not by the voters but by the people behind the scenes. It's also well known that anyone who wins Idol is tied to the contracts that go along with winning the top spot. If a person is VERY good, like Lambert then they do NOT want to win the top spot because then they are "trapped" into staying with those contracts. In Lamberts case he may have "hinted" to the big wigs that he didn't want to win the top spot or else they might have just figured that out on their own because they have bigger plans for him. By not winning the top spot he's more free to do the things that he really WANTS to do.
I guess your modeling career is fading as we speak also?
Yeah, so you're saying and I hear you're a model so I'll take you more seriously, that Kris' fans got together and voted for him (more than once as is allowed by Idol)? That's surely a scandal. They probably shouldn't have voted because, because like why should Arkansas have a say when there are very few models there.
Jim David posted an update where he pulled back on his charge about homophobia saying he might have been mistaken. He also claimed not to be a liberal. Personally, I think Adam lost (and I think he should have won) because sometimes he sounds like Ethel Merman and he's a dude. Sometimes he's great and more interesting, but Kris was a better story and probably more attractive to the female voters and a better story.
"Sorry to disappoint you but if you track Google Tends Adam has more attention in every state but Arkansas."
So what are you saying, the Arkansas vote made the difference? Ridiculous.
Oh, and Adam is the better singer, but so what? Opera singers are better than the best pop singers, but we like listening to rock nonetheless. It's about style as much as talent. That's why they call it American Idol and not American Really Good Singer (well, that and the latter is a bit wordy). There is no accounting for taste. Bob Dylan, Jimi Henrix, and Kurt Cobain, all atrocious singers, are now considered legends.
"So what are you saying, the Arkansas vote made the difference? Ridiculous"
And by ridiculous, I mean if Arkansas could do it, why not California or New York or wherever Adam is most popular? How did "the backward state of Arkansas" manage to outsmart the city-slicker Adam lovers?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, my childhood popstar hero was David Lee Roth, a flamboyantly androngenous raging heterosexual who never would have won had he tried out for Idol. Partly because he's frankly not a great singer. But mostly because Idol is not the place for Glam, Metal, or Emo singers. Paul Stanley of KISS wouldn't win, Steven Tyler wouldn't win, and the lead singer of the Cure wouldn't win.
Adam was so damn good that he made it to the finals despite his 70s persona. But it isn't at all surprising to me that he lost to a guy with a contemporary style. Kris is much more with the times.
That being said, some people certainly didn't like him because he's gay.
If red-staters won't support a gay performer, someone needs to explain the popularity of Liberace with the gray haired red-staters…
Americans are homophobically bigoted against guys with untold numbers of penises actually sticking out of the middle of their face(s) while they're singing live onstage at talent competitions.
We need to change this. This is the change we so desperately need.
Yup. I did a little rough math in my head after checking Arkansas demographics and figured that each and every female under the age of 18 would've had to voted over 100 times each in order to come to the "38 million votes from Arkansas" claim. Doing a little more estimation — not every teenaged girl was watching the show, not every one had a cell phone, discounting the under 6 yrs old crowd, not every vote was for Allen, etc….and that figure goes up to something on the order of 200 votes per girl.
So… do all conservatives get off on acting like smug jerks saying 'oh cry more, little baby' to people who are bitching about something? No? Then maybe, just maybe, not all liberals get off on being losers. Food for thought!
American Idol's a TV show, and one which has about as much impact as peeing in the ocean. Someone won, someone lost. Neither of those someones seems too upset about it, they were both damned talented. Congrats to the winner, congrats to the second-place winner, and hurrah for the audience that got to watch them both try.
I don't think there was any sort of 'culture war' going on here, and shame on the original editorialist for acting as if there was.
All conservatives view everything that way, I guess.
IMO, the political and gender orientation aspects of this society have been badly polarized and continue to swing outward. This approach promotes tribal warfare. The accusers use every inappropriate opportunity they can to 'sell' their viewpoint through claims of injustice. From the Salesman in Chief through the NYT all the way down to the likes of Perez Hilton, the left constantly tries to sell it's viewpoint and orientation. Political discourse is the new racism. On the other hand, the right sits pretty much mute (except for talk radio) until someone pokes a stick in its eye. The culture wobbles and I wonder how civilized are we?
I completely agree that the AI conspiracy theories are ridiculous, but to act like people are complaining because of politics is every bit as silly. As someone who happily tunes into AI each season, I can assure you that this happens every year. There are always conspiracy theories, always cries that someone was robbed or that the show is rigged. If Adam had won, the things people were whining about would be different, but there'd still be plenty of it.
All American Idol is is frivolous fun. That so many people are trying to make it about politics just makes me roll my eyes. If your guy didn't win, get over it. He'll still put out a cd in a few months, and if you still care, you can vote with your wallet.
I remember reading when I was a teenager that R.E.M.’s “So. Central Rain (I’m Sorry)” was about a dude.
Waitaminute, you actually understand R.E.M. Lyrics? I'm impressed.
Like you, I couldn't care less who is gay or not. The only thing that broke my heart about Rob Halford being gay was that I thought Judas Priest was the height of masculinity.
Good read, great points. Nobody likes being a victim more than a liberal.
I voted for Kris once on finals night because I think he's pretty talented and had his share of memorable performances throughout the season. I voted for Kris three additional times to spite Simon's relentless Adam pimping.
I thought Adam was terrific, too.
The only thing that could possibly be MORE useless than trying to derive a political point from American Idol is… American Idol.
"LIBERALS LOVE TO LOSE. When liberals lose, it enables them to feel more superior than they naturally feel. It affords them the opportunity to bitch about injustice and unfairness."
Yeah, and all conservatives get off on making declarative generalizing statements that are not entirely true.
If people from both sides would stop being high-and-mighty douchebags about crap like this, maybe we could actually learn to get along.
But then if we were all smart enough to do that, we probably wouldn't be quibbling over American Idol and calling each other homophobes or accusatory martyrs in the first place.
You heard 80s R.E.M. on the radio, Cam? Oh, wait, you grew up in Georgia. Lucky bastard.
I hadn't really thought that at the time, but I saw it again recently and was astonished. Matt Dillon, Ryan Phillipe, Sandra Bullock, Brendan Fraser, Billy Fitchner all were underhanded or intentionally covering something up for their own gain. Even though Ludicris and Tate's characters commit some 'evil acts', in the end the redeem themselves. Friggin' Ryan Phillipe's character was a good person with some insecurities, and he is somehow "expertly written" to be stupid enough to pick up a hitchhiker and shoot him like it was some wacky horror movie in the Midwest.
It is true about the Southerners doing better.
Kelly – Texas
Ruben – Alabama
Fantasia – North Carolina
Carrie – Oklahoma
Taylor – Alabama
Jordin – Arizona
David – Oklahoma?
Kris – Arkansas
None of the three finalists were black. So obviously the whole thing was a set-up by the Evil White Supremacist Conspiracy.
I hate to admit this about myself even under an internet pseudonym, but I'm a closet American Idol fan. I watched every televised minute of the season from the open auditions to the tear-stained farewells, and I can tell you exactly why Glambert lost.
After Danny Gokey was eliminated in the semi-final, his vote block rolled over to Kris, as the guy people who liked Danny would pick, if they couldn't have Danny. Prior to that, it was a virtual tie.
That's really all there was to it. I'm a 56-year-old, white, heterosexual, lifelong Republican, and a Southern Baptist to boot, and I don't personally know of anyone who cares about Adam Lambert's sexual preferences or who was shocked or surprised by it in any way. This is simply a left-wing ghost story that they like to tell around their campfires. If liberals have campfires. Probably not…wouldn't you have to kill a tree at some point?
Now, in my opinion Adam was the better singer. But, American Idol has never been a talent contest, really. It's a popularity vote.
My only question is this. Is 'Lola' by the Kinks about a masculine woman or a transvestite? I've clung to the former since I was eight years old. Can't let go. I can picture her, and have. She ain't a guy. More like Polythene Pam, so good lookin' when she looks like a man. I expect the Hollywood illusion-shatterers will be lining up, but I don't care what you say. Lola's a gal, and Kris Allen won fair and square!
I'd read in a Kinks biography that Ray or Dave Davies hit it off with a girl at a party and noticed the 5 O'Clock shadow in the morning light.
My new favorite comment.
I love that song, and when it comes on the car radio I sing the harmony, and it's absolutely about a dude, John.
Believe me, I wish it weren't. (I'll delete this comment if you need me to.)
The funny thing is, the only way the voting could show any evidence of homophobia would be if Adam won. (Adam's the gay guy, right?) If, out of millions and millions of votes, Kris (the straight one, I guess) received say, only 300,000, I guess you could make the case that those 300,000 were homophobes. But a vote that's anywhere near close can't tell you anything about why people voted the way they did.
You're a model like I'm the tooth fairy.
My backwards state of Arkansas hade Lambert and Allen fans, I was an Allen fan, not because Lambert was gay, Allen was from Arkansas, or any superficial reason, I just liked him better, shocker, I know.
I couldn't agree more, if homophobia was really behind this me thinks Adam Lambert wouldn't have made it as far as he did, personally he bored me, Kris Allen didn't. I'm sure other people have the same or similar opinions.
Hey, can I blame Mormonphobia for David Archuletta losing to David Cook last season? I mean if homophobia is a logical blame game point, it seems like that could work as well…
This is what happened; Dick Cheney teamed up with Doctor Evil in their secret cave, and had their giant computer (with the cool blinking lights) Robocall hundreds of thousands of votes for Kris. I mean how could you liberals not figure that out?
Case Closed!
PS. George W. Bush oversaw the entire operation – so it's his fault too!
Liberals actually think they won by electing BO?? Now that's some funny stuff
is there a term for fear of Christian women who voice opinions in beauty pageants? Prejeanaphobia?
Ray loves to keep ya thinking…I remember an interview he did where he pointed out a bar or club and he made a reference to a sexual encounter that he was involved in..at the end he added, "he was a nice guy" or something to that effect…..I'm sure Chrissie Hynde loved the jokes. PS Ray is the most under -songwriter of our time
The thing that strikes me as weird about this list is that Kelly, Ruben, Fantsia and Carrie could really sing and it drops off from their (not that David Cook or Kris is bad) but the show is turning out less interesting champions. Though I will watch dutifully next year.
Very true, I'd look for the 9th Circuit to intervene and overturn the will of the A.I. voters. It's what that wacky court does…
Whoa…Adam Lambert is GAY????
I think I might have accidentally voted for Pat Buchannan.
I'm a little sick of the "phobia" part. That's older than Genesis at this point. People are "scared" of gay people. Please. The only thing I found scary about Adam was the thought that he might be Simon's illegitimate boy.
Someone answer me this, who's most likely to make an album called Cornhole, Adam or Kris? I vote for the Southern boy.
Someone alert Undercover Brother!!
Just because I am a model does not mean that I am not intelligent enough to have a coherent political philosophy. I believe in the Constitution and understand what it means, limited government and power in the hands of the people. I understand that we lost that. I believe in fiscal responsibility, and civil liberties, as does Ron Paul. I believe that we should audit and end the Federal Reserve, and take our monetary system back from the private bankers. I believe the Second Amendment must remain the necessary balance of power because the state should never have the exclusive use of force. I could go on but we were talking about Adam losing AI. It seems that AT&T in a well orchestrated attack set up shop in Arkansas to take Lambert down. I don’t know how much more space I have so look at my next post.
AT&T was holding events in Conway giving out phones, giving phones to councilmen, giving out phones with California numbers, having events on campus, in hotels, having batteries and “charging stations” available and training people to “power text”. To be objective I have researched to determine if any of these activities was orchestrated on behalf of Adam and they were not. AT&T did not allow the people to vote , they picked the American Idol. Adam did not deserve to lose this way. AT&T as a sponsor should never had gone to the town of one contestant and when combining all the ways they voted in Arkansas over 58 million cheating votes. AT&T cheated everybody, made Kris look like a fool, he knew he did not deserve to win, took Adam's rightful win and as fans we had our fingers going all night for nothing. I want AT&T and Idol to explain this!
You came back and gave us an EVEN BIGGER target to ridicule you on.
So, you're a model, AND you are into masochism….PLEASE tell me you are into short bald guys in their 30's!!
Well now that he has lost he is a little sad but don't worry he'll get over it and be happy again……….
oh wait…..
Please cite your sources for these "supposed" injustices done by AT&T. I find it hard to believe that something like this could have happened in the first place let alone have it get out amongst the public so soon.
Methinks someone is a disgruntled EX AT&T employee.
I think his point is the date of the definition. That the term is "contrived".
As to the actual definition given I can agree that a fear of or discrimination against gays is a bad thing.
However not Aversion. I have an aversion to being touched by another man which if I did not have would mean that I was not straight. I don't consider that bad just mother nature. The problem I have with the homophobia term is the assumption that my reactions that make me avert such as cringing when seeing two men kiss are in fact in the fear or discrimination category. They are not, they are just how straight people are wired. Now if I tried to ban gay people from kissing or ran in fear at the site of it clutching a ball bat like a man walking down the stairs at 3:00 am because his wife heard a loud crash, then yes that would fall in that category.

This is the only cogent thoughts that can begin to answer the very serious issue of Arkasas Voter Fraud.
I demand Gov Huckabee respond immediately.
Weebles Wobble but they don't fall down.
Sorry had to say it at hering you use that word but you are absolutely correct and not just about this. Liberals break us all up in groups to keep us seperated in order to ensure that we don't get along. Intolerance is a big seller for them. If it ever were to be "defeated" they'd lose all their faux constituencies. What gets lost is civility.
You forgot Limbaugh he is the defacto leader of the Republican party so it must have crossed his desk for approval.
Yes
American Idol should be forced to give seminars in Boca Raton on the proper method for using telephones to dial in votes. The numbers are so close together on the telephone. It's confusing.
American Idol was an inside job! Google it.
Man does that bring back memories. I can still hear the jingle. Thanks.
I totally disagree with this article. Anyone who was across the online chatlines and blogs connected with Adam Lambert and American idol in general, would know that the internet was a wash with anti gay statements pitched at Lambert. But it wasn't just antigay…there was an staggering amount of christian religious types suggesting he wasn't wholesome, Kris had the moral demeanour of what they considerd was American…ie married, not gay, not wearing makeup and nail polish, not sporting dyed unusual hair cuts. The religious prejudice definitley spilled into disapproving of Adam's sexual tastes and life style. I'm sorry but if you weren't following it closely you just don't have a right to make such a cack handed statement. Know you're subject before you blast off next time.
Good argument, Cam. I liked the way you brought up Queen and "JUDAS PRIEST!" I wasn't even aware that people were watching the Al finale in the frame of a Red State vs. Blue State showdown for the "Overhyped Singer of the Year Who If He Were Really Good Would Have a Contract By Now and Whose Career Will Be Relegated to Obsolescence in Five Years" award. Yeah, count that as a valerian root frosty for moi. Still, I considered (what was his nick?) "Glambert" to be more of an androgynous metrosexual along the lines of David Bowie in his borderline cross-dressing days, minus the, you know, talent, and was really more put off by his meticulous grooming and possible fake tan than by his ostensible sexual proclivities. (I still can't figure out why women would have anything to do with us cavemen, let alone why other dudes would. More women for us heterosexual neanderthals!) In the spirit of fairness to those who prefer unconventional nookie, next season let the best homosexual win.
Megan Martinex: "Why Adam did not win is because the backward state of Arkansas took it upon them self to pick the idol for the whole country."
After having read literally millions of lefty memes, I can spot this one like a train coming down the track in a tunnel from a mile away:
1. Absurd premise. Did Arkansas get together to plot against an American Idol contestant?
2. Implausible math. (I gave an example above).
3. Cry of victimization.
4. Collectivist assumption (groups all of Arkansas together into a single voting block).
5. "It's all the rednecks' fault."
6. Grants agency to an abstract entity ("Arkansas took it upon themself.")
7. Incorrect grammar – pronoun confusion. OK, we'll let that one slide since you're a model.
I'm not trying to be mean, but you opened yourself up to it when you discriminated against Arkansas by calling it "backward." (Yeah! Isn't liberal logic is fun?)
Nice breakdown, Old Tom. Dig that campfire reference also. Cheers.
Props to you for articulating your political philosophy so cogently.
When I want to decide who to vote for in American Idol, the first place I think to check is Bill O'Reilly.
You didn't hear REM on the radio in the 80s? It was all over the place, and I was in the midwest…
John, I appreciate your observation, but would simply add that from my point of view for there to be freedom there have to be individual rights enforced by a rule of law as explicitly and clearly expressed in a Constitution. Democracy tends to be nothing more than a tyranny of the majority (as J.S. Mill put it in "On Liberty"). I'm just throwing this out there, not trying to provoke a vehement argument.
What's funny about all this is that Adam really wins, because he doesn't have to sing that horrible cookie cutter vomit-inducing pop garbage written by Kara. I didn't vote, but if I had, I would have voted for Kris because it would kill me to see Adam ruin his chances at becoming a real artist by having an Idol-approved album thrust upon him.
Adam should hook up with A Perfect Circle now that Maynard is back in Tool.
I faced very similar repurcusions for admitting that I did not vote for Obama. That means I am obviously racist. Never mind the Grand Canyon of difference between our views, or his total lack of experience- it was obviously about race. WHAT- EVER.
Kris Allen won because most of America could relate to him, something liberals hate.
Sizzingly hot??????
The 'wussification of America' is complete.
This whole thing about why one lost and the other won is B S. The performer Lambert had a group of followers that kept him in the competition and that group, although large, varied little in numbers. Allen on the other hand had a similar but probably not as large of a group backing him throughout the competition. The difference was that Iraheta and Gokey each had their supporters and as each failed to garner enough votes their supporters went to someone similar. Iraheta's went to Gokey and Allen. Gokey's then went to Allen when Gokey was voted off the show. The was no one, repeat no one that Lambert could draw support from other than his basic long time group. When the finale came you had an overwhelming group of voters that had previously supported other candidates that had been voted off the show. Their votes went to the next best similar candidate. Lambert had his steady week after week group of the same voters.
Besides Lambert is a performer that does not sing that well. He screams and screeches his vocals and that is very irritating. Allen on the other hand is a singer period. Remember what Simon Cowell repeatedly says about the show "it is a singing contest." Lambert is the performer you see on a street corner doing skits for pocket change. Gokey, Iraheta and Allen are the types that will cut CD's and sells copies and tickets. The singer and not the screamer won so get over it and quit whining.
I liked Adam's performances on Idol. I would love to see him take on Ian Gillian's role as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. They're voices are amazingly similar. That said, the only performances I've given a repeated listen to, and the only singer whose pre-Idol stuff I have on my mp3 player are Kris Allen's. He is an excellent singer/songwriter and does not deserve the 'less talented' backlash from Adamites who don't get that songs need not be screamed at them in order to be listened to. Plus, despite being far more camera-friendly, of the top twelve, Kris had less than a minute of airtime through the audition period when Idol preps the voters for the next big thing. They're chosen one was upset, and the whining commenced. Both will have decent careers (as will Allison), but Kris's will probably have longevity. We'll just have to see what they do.

I get the exact same comments from people, not necessarily from those around me, because my state tends to vote very conservatively, but when traveling and especially online. I disagree with 98% of his political views, so why on earth would I vote for him? I think it's amazing that we finally have a black president; I just wish he was somebody I could agree with and fully support.
I think that Adam is a great singer. But the rest of his performances each week, the affectation and the ridiculously fake posturing, really turned me off. He never once came across as a genuine "rocker," but rather somebody who wasn't rock at all trying his hardest to look like he was. The eyeliner, the nailpolish, even his Pete Wentz haircut, was stupid, like he was trying really hard to come across as an emo rocker (which yes, I realize is an oxymoron). It just came off as though he was yet another unoriginal, whiny pop artist who pretends to be watered down punk rock.
I love rock music: my favorite band is Aerosmith, and I grew up listening to most of the greats. For all his comparisons to Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger, Adam isn't nearly as good as either one of them. Both of them were the genuine article, Adam is not. I wish him all the best in his future career, but I didn't support him on the show and I won't be supporting him by buying any of his forthcoming music.
Adam-I am a (67 female) conservative who voted for you. I saw a picture of you on the internet kissing a guy. So what. I still liked you & your singing. I voted for you the week you ended up in the bottom 2. I didn't have a problem, the line was open & I just kept hitting redial. A week prior I tried voting for Allison on all lines & never could get through. She was eliminated. I never cared if Kris was eliminated. I was never drawn to his singing. However, a couple of weeks ago on Mike Huckabee's show on FOX he said he & his family were voting for Kris because he's from Arkansas. And then when you 3 went home & I saw the turnout for Kris, it was overwhelming! It made you think of when Carrie Underwood won when everyone thought it was going to be Bo Bice. Or when Taylor Hicks won when everyone thought Katherine McPherson was going to when. I think you were so gracious, class act ,as was Kris. Wishing you great success.
I despise the term "homophobe' and "homophobia." It's the pathetic catch-all excuse for people to excuse horrible behavior. I know of one adult woman who was acting sexual with 15-16 year old girls on a public image board, and they will conjure that word up at the drop of a hat if they don't like an adult asking or teasing two 15 year old girls to have sex with her.
I know of another imbecile who openly watches a japanese cartoon that depicts children in sexual situations, and on their blog they hate "homophobes," while giving visitors a link to Wikipedia so they can gather interest in this disgusting video.
It's basically meant to make their intellectual opposition seem inhuman and therefore their beliefs are to be dismissed as such that of bigoted cretins. If that doesn't cause someone to back down, go for the racist charge.
Good article Cam. Yeah, this syndrome happens all the time. Everyone warned that if Obama lost it would only PROVE how racist Americans are…bracing for that possible upset.
I don't vote for American Idol and didn't have a strong preference most cycles. I do enjoy the show and was a little surprised at Kris winning because I simply hadn't remembered him from casual viewing and did remember Adam's performances. But from what I can tell, the tween girl population was solidly behind Kris Allen and that's usually the crowd that provides the biggest pop (except inexplicably when dude who got dropped from the label beat McPhee which just proves that the winners aren't always the best singers).
Enjoyed the read though.
I would have to disagree with your initial assertion, that liberals love to loose, and think when they win the "game" as finally "fair." I'm a recovering liberal, and live in NY, surrounded by those still afflicted with the disease. They are absolutely tickled pink to win, even if its obviously out right cheating on their part.
Every campaign, at every level of government, I love to watch to see who gets caught cheating at what. And time after time after time, it's democrats by a very wide margin. As a matter of fact, I can't remember the last time a republican group got caught doing anything major. Yet, every time, I hear the same old tired accusations, over and over.
Allow me to sum up with a wonderful example. My knuckle-headed brother tells me he'd love to see Elliot Spitzer back as governor of NY. I asked him what he thought about all the other accusations against him such as using the NY State Police as his own personal CIA. He said he didn't care in the least. When conservatives get the shaft, modern liberals love it, no matter the circumstances.
