I am taking this turn of events a little personally as well because of genetic ties to the revolution. I'm a direct descendant of Samuel Adams (I wish this included stock in the company as well! ) My great-great grandmother was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, liberty bell necklace and all. The thing about Democrats is that their very name illustrates a character flaw. They believe democracy trumps all. In other words, anything that wins a vote has supreme moral authority.

That's not how America was actually supposed to work. See, the Bill of Rights was written because people understood that some things were too important to put up to a vote, too important to leave exposed to people's day-to-day whims. So maybe when we get stuck with a President and Congress who think they can steamroll over the people and suck our wallets dry on new government programs based mainly on wishful thinking, it doesn't matter whether they legally won an election. It doesn't make what they're doing any less wrong. It's not necessarily completely out of the realm of plausibility that the government could get so out of control that waiting until the next election would be more dangerous than attempting to correct the problem immediately. That is, unless you subscribe to the childish absolutist notion that because they won an election, everything they could possibly do is okay.

The thing about violence is that it's absolutely irrational to consider it "abhorrent and childish." Wasteful, destructive, terrible, yes. But the moment you decide violence is so abhorrent, so beneath you, as to be completely off the table you cease to be a force that matters in the world, because you are going to end up a slave to anyone who makes violence a way of life. If you want freedom, that requires a different kind of peace, where violence is off the table because the peaceful people are better at it than anyone else.

I think 1GoodDaddy's point is spot on. A revolution of the people backed by arms, even if they are just firearms, is deadly to deal with even with our technology. You can make thermite from beach sand and hydrogen gas from household detergent. Even the military admits that the only way to quell an insurgency is to outnumber them 10 to 1. We don't have a military large enough to handle all the armed citizens in our country so I guess our government better show a little respectfor us now and then. I guess that is what burns Planet Hitler's little red volkswagon.
