You might have already seen this. A bootleg has been available on the Web for a while now, but since we don’t knowingly post that kind of stuff, we ignored.

Hopefully, this is a studio-approved copy. If not, we will end up pulling the YouTube.

Aaron Carter Claims Michael Jackson Offered Him Cocaine

by Hollywoodland

Before you take this story too seriously, consider two things:

#1 – When was the last time you took a second out of your life to think about Aaron Carter?

#2 – Michael Jackson was unavailable for comment.

From Australia’s OK! Magazine:

On the second anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death, his former friend and confidant, Aaron Carter, 23, has come clean about his close – and controversial – relationship with the pop singer, revealing all to internationally renowned interviewer Daphne Barak during a charity visit to Marbella, Spain.

Trailer Talk: ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’

by John Nolte

—–

Three was the best of the series and Jeremy Renner is certainly a welcome addition to any film, but CGI stunts that defy gravity and reality are starting to get pretty old. I count at least four times someone should die in this two-minute trailer. Heaven only knows what the final film will look like. After a while that kind of artificial invincibility begins to numb the senses until you get the feeling you’re watching someone else play a video game.

It would be nice if the franchise were to go back to the roots of the long-running television show where brains, cunning teamwork, and some terrific role-playing combined to create a sense of real suspense and excitement — as opposed to phony excitement enhanced by obvious CGI.

One reason, however, to scratch everything written above is that the director of this installment is the great Brad Bird, the unqualified genius behind “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille,” two of the best films of the last decade. Bird is a brilliant storyteller and director. I expect great things and will ultimately not judge “Ghost Protocol” by its trailer. The story look interesting, as well. High concept with massive stakes involving both the fate of the individual characters and, naturally, the fate of the world.

Jon Stewart Under Fire: Steven Crowder & Herman Cain Rip Off the Clown Nose

by John Nolte

Nothing makes me happier than watching others treat Jon Stewart as the political, left-wing partisan that he is. This is EXACTLY how our side should be responding to Stewart: fighting back and giving as good as we get. Nothing less than our country is at stake, 2012 matters more than I can even begin to express, and Stewart has pretty much had free reign for years to define who in our political world is dumb, evil, racist, or all three — and it’s no coincidence that the dumb, evil racists are almost always Republican stars.

Yes, Stewart goes after Democrats. But only when they’re caught in a scandal that can’t be ignored or not being liberal enough. And Stewart almost never goes after Democrat stars in a way that undermines or negatively defines them.

Jon Stewart is a left-wing hatchet man disguised as a satirist and that disguise is one of his most potent weapons. Below you’ll see Steven Crowder and Herman Cain do the honorable work of starting to pull that disguise off of him.

I’m especially happy to see Fox News no longer taking Stewart’s dishonest attacks lying down.  As Glenn Reynolds might say: More, please. Marginalizing and exposing Stewart for what he is, is (hyperbole warning!) good for America.

Trailer Talk: ‘30 Minutes or Less’ Could Have You Checking Your Watch

by John P. Hanlon

—–

What’s to Like

This comedy reunites Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg with “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer, which could be a winning combination. The trailer reminds us that Eisenberg can be funny when given strong material and Aziz Ansari (“Parks and Recreation”) looks like a good sidekick for him.  “30 Minutes” could be another unconventional success story like “Zombieland”.

What’s to Dislike

The premise itself is extremely weak. It looks like Eisenberg’s character is forced to rob a bank after a bomb is strapped to his chest by men dressed like gorillas. If the script is funny, the movie could work, but the concept alone isn’t incentive to fork over your $12 ($14? $18?). Also, Danny McBride has appeared in a few clunkers recently so his presence in this film could foreshadow some problems with it.

New ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ Trailer

by John Nolte

—–

This new trailer answers some of the questions about Steve Roger’s/Captain America’s motivations, which appear to be duty to his country. The more I see, the more I like. The production design is superb as are the effects creating “scrawny” Steve Rogers. Best of all, the film has a sense of humor about itself. Most refreshing is the character-testing of Rogers, the part about him being a “good man.” Old-fashioned ideas like self-sacrifice and a calling higher than one’s self make for memorable storytelling themes, the kind that stick with you long after you leave the theatre.

The Big Man: Clarence Clemons Dead at 69

by John Nolte

As someone who has seen Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in concert more than a half-dozen times over the last thirty years, this comes as very, very sad news. Clemons’ vibrant and distinctive work on the saxophone was a crucial and defining sound in Springsteen’s early albums, but the sideman’s commanding presence on the stage and the obvious camaraderie the two men shared (that was sometimes sealed with a surprisingly macho stage kiss), was just as irreplaceable. Springsteen may have been The Boss of the E Street Band but in so many ways Clemons was the soul; the 6 foot 4 inch quiet, solid authority figure who could bring down the house with a smile.

For my money, what you see below is greatest album cover ever created, something that says so much about the easy bond between two men with such simplicity. And what a unique happenstance that the vinyl disc inside the “Born to Run” cover more than lives up to the promise of its memorable packaging:

If I had to pick a favorite Clemons’ musical moment it would no doubt be his unforgettable solo that closes ”Thunder Road” (the song that ended with the famous stage kiss between the two men).  Springsteen’s character does the earthbound work of pleading  with a damaged and frightened vision called Mary to trust and run away with him; he promises her everything because he’s too young and too much in love and too desperate to save her to know he has absolutely nothing. And then Clemons steps in to fulfill that promise through a bittersweet but still uplifting closer that tells you the young couple might just beat the odds and make it — might just “win.”‘

Trailer Talk: ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Moneyball,’ Larry Crowne,’ More…

by John Nolte

My hatred for this impossibly dull, episodic franchise makes it impossible for me to judge the trailer. The good news is that it all comes to an end July 15th. I do, however, hope all you HP fans get everything you want from the final installment.

—–

This famously troubled production has ended up looking absolutely fantastic. Brad Pitt’s charm, the score, feel, supporting cast, and underdog concept all centered around the beauty of baseball should make for a perfect autumn afternoon at the movies. “Moneyball” opens September 23rd.

So I Went Ahead and Took the Blu-ray Plunge…

by John Nolte

Thus far, my only wowza! moment courtesy of Hollywood this year has been the drop-dead gorgeous Blu-ray transfer of “The Ten Commandments.” From my review:

What’s most remarkable about the new Blu-ray is that it is easily the most beautiful film I’ve ever screened on television. Though the print I saw in the theatre Thursday night was a full, frame by frame restoration and jaw-dropping all on its own, the Blu-ray is, impossibly, even more beautiful. The VistaVision widescreen Technicolor pops right off the screen in ways I didn’t think possible. The richness of the colors, the stability of the blacks, and the details of everything, including fabrics and architecture, pull you deeper and deeper into the world of the film. The work DeMille put into the look of each frame is detailed in a terrific 75-minute “making of” documentary included only with the Blu-ray gift set, and my guess is that even the director himself never saw his work displayed as beautifully as this Blu-ray.

After watching “The Ten Commandments” at home Sunday afternoon, I made the mistake of screening Errol Flynn’s “Robin Hood.” Suddenly, what was once my favorite-looking film on DVD now looks positively wan in comparison. I’m not happy about that at all.

The thing I wasn’t happy about was the troubling feeling in my gut that this stunning review copy (I never would’ve plunged on my own) was going to end up being a very expensive gatweway drug into yet another home video format. My response to this dilemma was what it’s always been since the creation of VHS: a childish lack of impulse control that resulted in the purchase of nearly 50 Blu-rays discs, all but a few of which are copies of films I already own on standard DVD.

Now, to my credit, I didn’t go completely crazy. Paying retail was out of the question. But I did stalk the aisles of Best Buy like a crack-addict in a bus station in order to snatch up any favorites that dropped below ten bucks. You know, the standards that make life worth living, such as, “Cool Hand Luke,” “Dog Day Afternoon,” “Enter the Dragon,” “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three” (original), “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (original), “Bullitt,” “Deliverance,” “Road House,” “Fist of Legend,” “The Searchers,” “The Wild Bunch,” and the “The Resident Evil” Quadrology.

Yes, I’m a simpleton.

Janine Turner: Radio Host, Actress, Patriot and Broadway Belter

by Larry O'Connor

I had the pleasure of interviewing the beautiful and talented Janine Turner last night on my radio program, The Stage Right Show. Her enthusiasm and sincerity is infectious and is evident from her very first “howdy” greeting to my listeners.

Her knowledge of the founding fathers, the national debt problems and the current state of the elite media led her to a new career as a radio talk show host.  Her new show, “The Janine Turner Show”, will stream live here at Big Hollywood at 11:00 PM ET.

Enjoy this glimpse of Janine as we discuss her show, her enthusiasm for the work done by Andrew Breitbart and the crew here at Big Hollywood.  I even get her to sing a verse from her favorite Broadway musical,  “1776″:
