Late Night Comics Pounce on Cain’s ‘Scandal’

by Hollywoodland

The Mainstream Media did what it likes to do best over the weekend – turn a poorly sourced quasi-scandal regarding a Republican into a news feeding frenzy.

Now, late night talk show hosts have taken the bait.

David Letterman

Last night, the majority of the comedy elite had fun at the expense of Herman Cain, the popular GOP presidential candidate accused of sexually harassing two women during the 1990s. The wobbly reportage was condemned by not only conservatives but the left-leaning Pro Publica media outfit. But it proved too irresistible for the usual comic suspects (source: The daily Hotline roundup):

David Letterman: Now (businessman) Herman Cain when he was the chairman of the National Restaurant Association back in the ’90’s is saying there was a claim of sexual harassment. I looked it up. … Here’s what happened: he was just listing the specials. (‘The Late Show with David Letterman,’ CBS, 10/31).

The ‘South Park’ Gang to Tackle Occupy Wall Street

by Hollywoodland

Leave it those ‘South Park’ button pushers Trey Parker and Matt Stone to go where other comedians fear to tread.

This week’s new installment of ‘South Park’ will deal with the Occupy Wall Street movement – indirectly, of course. The episode in question, airing at 10 p.m. EST Wednesday, finds the calorically challenged Cartman throwing off the school’s fitness curve.

“I know how this works. You’re the 99 percent ganging up on the one percent,” Cartman cries in a preview clip supplied by Comedy Central.

Weight warfare ensues, apparently.

—–

The episode, dubbed ‘1 %,’ marks the show’s first, full-on commentary on the fledgling political movement. The beauty of ‘South Park’ is how even-handed it can be in tackling tricky subjects that otherwise split audiences. So expect both sides of the OWS debate to take a licking during the 30-minute show.

Here’s the official episode description:

Sarah Silverman Goes Full Garofalo

by Hollywoodland

Look out, Janeane Garofalo, someone’s gunning for your crown as the goofiest liberal celebrity.

Comedian Sarah Silverman didn’t start out as a politically charged stand-up. But lately she seems eager to shift her shtick from the pretty girl who talks dirty to the comedian eager to carry water for the erroneous Left.

—–

Silverman recently appeared on MSNBC’s ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ to promote ‘Live from [N-Word]head,’ a comedy show meant to mock Texas Gov. Rick Perry for his scandalous ranch connection. Too bad nobody told Silverman the charge has already been debunked and is simply part of the mainstream media’s attempt to discredit yet another Republican.

Here’s Silverman pontificating on the importance of keeping the racist meme alive:

Jon Stewart Hearts First Responders … Unless They’re Responding to Violent Liberals

by Christian Toto

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart wipes off the greasepaint when it’s time to salute – and protect – the First Responders from 9/11.

It’s one of his more admirable stances, even if it’s often accompanied by slams against the GOP.

But ‘The Daily Show’ host apparently drops his affection for the men and women in blue when they dare to protect citizens from the violent Occupy Wall Street types.

This week, Stewart climbed aboard his funny pulpit to admonish cops for cracking down on the folks Occupying Oakland. According to Stewart’s highly edited clip reel, the protesters were hardly a menacing bunch, but cops used tear gas and other forceful methods to keep them in line all the same.

How. Could. They?

As my tag team partner John Nolte said earlier, Stewart clearly left out this, this, this, and this. Oh, and this, this, this and this. ADDED: And this!

Exclusive: Adam Carolla Blasts Hypocritical Comics, Radio Lethargy

by Christian Toto

Adam Carolla isn’t shocked most comedians’ acts tilt toward the left.

“It’s an easier team to back if you live in Hollywood,” says Carolla, host of the most downloaded podcast on the Internet, ‘The Adam Carolla Show.’ What’s hypocritical, Carolla says, are the dual identities many lead in their professional lives.

Adam Carolla

“These bigger name guys, they go out and do corporate gigs, they do casinos and theaters, they make 200 grand a pop,” says Carolla, whose own ideology defies simple labels. “Then, they come back to their pulpit and talk about Joe Sixpack and how times are tight.”

“They never talk about the money they make… and you pretend you’re one of them? Bullshit,” he says.

Carolla isn’t shy about telling tales of woe from first class flights or how he feels uncomfortable around his nanny. Nor does he mind being in a cutthroat entertainment business, one that cast him aside in 2009 for failing to live up to Howard Stern’s ratings legacy on the FM dial.

Under Fire for ‘Mong’ Jokes, Ricky Gervais Attacks Fellow Comedians For Not Supporting Him

by John Nolte

Comedians defending other comedians when they’re under attack for being insensitive…

What a novel idea.

First, some background:

Did Ricky Gervais cross the line by being his usual, I-could-care-less-what-people-think-about-me self?

The British comedian evoked online ire after posting a series of tweets referencing “mongs,” once a slur directed at people with Down’s Syndrome, and sometimes accompanying them with photos of him making silly faces. “Two mongs don’t make a right,” read one tweet. “Night night monglets,” he told his followers on Oct. 14.

Criticism came quick. Comedians and Down’s Syndrome advocacy groups have called out Gervais for reviving the word, but he claims “mong” now means something else.

“Well done everyone who pointed out that Mong USED to be a derogatory term for DS,” he wrote, referring to Down’s Syndrome. “Gay USED to mean happy. Words change. Get over it.”

‘American Night’ Playwright Richard Montoya: Why Preaching to the Choir Just Won’t Do

by Christian Toto

It’s not hard to suss out where playwright Richard Montoya stands on the immigration issue.

His 2010 play ‘American Night: The Ballad of Juan Jose’ features a Mexican man cramming for his U.S. citizenship test who dreams of how immigrants have been mistreated over the years.

American Night

But Montoya isn’t letting Mexicans – or illegal immigrants – off the hook through his art.

“’American Night’ doesn’t cheerlead for illegal immigration. It’s a problem. I’m not supporting open immigration,” says Montoya, whose celebrated play details how Mexicans often live under the thumb of powerful drug cartels.

Montoya, an actor/playwright and founding member of the satirical comedy trio Culture Clash, includes several Tea Party characters in ‘Night’ during a faux Town Hall meeting. The situation brims with humor, but he thinks the vitriol on both sides of the immigration debate is no laughing matter.

Late Night Finally Hits Obama’s Soft Spot: The Teleprompter

by John Nolte

Maybe Saturday Night Live, Jon Stewart, and all the others who lie to us about how difficult it is to mock this President can watch this and take some notes:

—–

It would be ridiculously easy for our so-called political satirists to use Obama’s teleprompter addiction as a way to define him for the fool he really is…

Which is why our so-called political satirists refuse to do so.

It ain’t about the funny. It’s about the politics.

‘Chris Christie Is SO Fat’ and the Hacky State of Political Stand-Up Comedy

by Tim Slagle

“I‘m glad they didn’t nominate [New Jersey Gov. Chris] Christie,” my friend Louis (whose Acme Comedy Company is about to celebrate twenty years in the business) said. “A lot of comedy clubs will not survive 2012; Christie would put the final nail their coffins.”

He was really concerned that with President Barack Obama’s dismal approval ratings the Republican primaries would become a winner-take-all contest, with the popular Christie making it all the way to the White House.

Louis believes that political satire is the finest form of the comedic arts, and he has seen it die twice over the last two decades. When the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal broke, every hack in America became a political comic just by appending Bill Clinton to their favorite oral sex gag. As we moved into the new millennium, comics who specialized in blonde jokes could call themselves political just by substituting President George W. Bush into the punchline.

With this new administration, political humor became very tricky, and only a few comics will attempt to make fun of the President. Heck, even the guys who did those “What if a Brother ever got into the White House?” routines were forced to write some original material or abandon the political arena altogether. Louis believes that the political edge of his club is part of what has kept him afloat three years into a recession. (more…)

Apparently Jon Stewart Won’t Tolerate Being Mocked

by John Nolte

What a treasure trove of information this is. If you recall, in 2007 during the writer’s strike, Jon Stewart kept his show on the air under the absurd claim there was no writing going on — or something. If anyone in showbiz didn’t have to worry about his career losing steam through the strike, it was Stewart.

But Stewart chose scab over principled solidarity, MacFarlane’s “Family Guy” gave him a tweak over it, and…

A Now Legendary, American Atomic Bomb: Katt Williams

by Michael Moriarty

Thanks to Big Hollywood’s Alfonzo Rachel, I witnessed an entertainment miracle going off in Phoenix, Arizona.

This is my third time through the Katt Williams, flame-throwing, soul-burning comic meltdown!

This is so far beyond having an audience in the palm of your hand, it is an entire American Counter-Revolution!

This must be not only the worst night and foulest nightmare of this heckler’s life, I don’t see how this fool could walk after the justified incineration he waltzed into.

The almost 8 minutes of deliriously savage brilliance rises like a great symphony to culminate in the only possible ecstatic climax: The Star Spangled Banner!!!

This fifth time through for me brings tears to my eyes! Shouts of gratitude!! America is in a major foxhole right now and a pathetic heckler has, indeed, UNITED THE TROOPS!!!!

Comedian Katt Williams Delivers Some Non-PC Humor In Defense of America

by Hollywoodland

Definitely not safe for work but very refreshing….

—–

In this insufferably PC era, defending America and this kind of openly proud patriotism is the very definition of edgy.  Via HuffPo, here’s a portion of the transcript. The audio is pretty garbled in spots:

“… it appears to me, y’all like it over here a lot… If y’all had California and you loved it, then you shouldn’t have given that mothaf*cka up. You should have fought for California, goddamnit, since you love it… Are you Mexican? Do you know where Mexico is? No this ain’t Mexico, it used to be Mexico, motherf*cker, and now it’s Phoenix, goddammit. USA! USA!… No n*gga, do you know where you at? USA! USA!… No n*gga, this is my hood… [security comes] F*ck him! Mothaf*ckas think they can live in this country and pledge allegiance to another country… Do you remember when white people used to say go back to Africa? And we’d have to tell them we don’t want to? So if you love Mexico, bitch, get the f*ck over there! [breaks into the National Anthem]… We were slaves bitch, you just all work like that at the landscapers…”

Naurally, the Huffington Post is all bothered, bewildered and offended by this:

New Scandal at DoJ as Illegal Guitars End Up In Hands of Mexican Drug Lords

by Iowahawk

Say ‘ello to my leetle fren’:
axe confiscated in border
rawk-out

WASHINGTON – Today’s uncovering of secret multi-agency program for shipping illegal Gibson guitars to Mexican drug cartels left red-faced officials of the U.S. Department of Justice scrambling for an explanation amid angry calls for a Congressional investigation.

“I have ordered all agency personnel to fully cooperate in any Congressional inquiries, including all reasonable document request, as soon as we can redact them with Sharpie pens and lighter fluid,” said U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.

The secret program came to light early this morning in the border town of Nogales, Arizona, after what was described as a wild battle of the bands between members of the Sinaloa cartel and Los Zetas, two of Mexico’s most notorious violent drug gangs.

“Usually these guys are armed with Mexican Strats and Squires, Epiphones, small caliber stuff like that,” said Pedro Ochoa, 36, an eye witness to the sonic melee. “This time they were packing the heavy firepower.”

The steady barrage of power chords and piercing solo attacks attracted the attention of nearby U.S. Border Patrol agents, who arrived at the scene just as Los Zetas broke into Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song.’ By the time the dust had cleared, U.S. Border Patrol Agent Oscar Jimenez was found in a catatonic state of headbanging. He was later flown to University of Arizona Hospitals, where his condition is listed as seriously rawked.

Jon Stewart Hammers Ed Schultz’s Race-Baiting Deceptive Edit

This NBC News deceptive edit had just started to take off in the left-wing mainstream media when Breitbart.TV’s Editor-in-Chief Larry O’Connor revealed the full context of the quote and stopped the smear in its tracks.

By the way, jobless claims are up this week to 408,000, and a concerned President Obama has just interrupted his vacation to release this statement from Martha’s Vineyard…

Hollywood Gins Up Electric Car Propaganda Machine

by Tim Slagle

So here we are into the first year of the Chevy Volt, and President Obama’s prediction of selling 15,000 vehicles by the end of the year, is still about 12,000 short. It’s not a good start for the Administration who expects to have a million plug-in vehicles on the road by 2015. So Hollywood is ramping up the propaganda machine.

In a Hollywood Reporter article, Hollywood plans to help their favorite President, by making the electric car cool. That is, if you really think Hollywood has that much power. It’s a classic chicken and egg story: is smoking cool because Humphrey Bogart did it; or was Humphrey Bogart cool because he smoked? Perhaps now that they’ve made comic book conventions cool, Hollywood believes it has gained super-powers.

Chris Paine, known for his documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car?” is now working alongside his former nemesis, with “The Revenge of the Electric Car.” If current lackluster Volt sales continue, Chris Paine might someday be the star of a third picture, “Who Killed GM?”

Unfortunately I can’t see anything ever making electric cars or Hybrids cool. My nephew Joey informs me that high school kids refer to the Prius with an affectionate name, more commonly used for feminine hygiene products. It’s like trying to sell Christian Rock: if the kids don’t think it’s cool, nobody ever will.

When Jon Stewart’s good — he’s good. And he closes the segment in perfectly fair territory, by criticizing Rep. Michele Bachmann with her own statements.

It really is too bad Newsweek editor Tina Brown was unable to control her worst instincts.  With last month’s cover story of Sarah Palin — which was widely praised — it looked as though Brown might have decided to revive the leftist rag’s awful reputation for bias. But as the saying goes…

Reader Poll: Sony’s Politicization of the Upcoming Bin Laden Film

by Hollywoodland

For ten years we’ve been waiting for Hollywood to engage in the War on Terror in a way that portrays our country and military personnel in a positive light — in a way that actually takes a side against the terrorists and for the Americans fighting and dying to stop them. Finally, just when it appears as though we might actually get that movie, it looks as though Sony Pictures has decided the Kathryn Bigelow directed, Mark Boal scripted October 2012 release should also be a $50 – $75 million re-election campaign commercial for Barack Obama.

What are your thoughts on this?
