I was able to see your point of view and could certainly agree with many of your arguments. As for Tarantino and Scorsese (I will admit I have yet to dabble in Woody Allen's films, so I cannot say anything to defend him), I have no idea how you can feel the way you do about either of them. They are both masters in their own right, and no where near "overrated". My biggest issue with this entire article, however, came with number 1, Alfred Hitchcock: "The Master of Suspense". At first I felt you were just an ignorant fool, and couldn't appreciate "Oldies" for how amazing they truly are. But then I read your other article and saw you are a major fan of "Casablanca", so I know that's not the case. Hence the reason I support the earlier claim, you are an idiot. Perhaps you have been corrupted by the movies of the 21st century and, looking back, feel his thriller/suspense movies are "out dated" or "cheesy". I really don't know. But what makes Hitchcock so amazing is what he inspired. In my opinion, every single one of his movies is still great today. You can argue with that, and that's fine. The reason he is certainly not over rated, however, is because of what he accomplished decades ago. Alfred pioneered the use of a camera made to move in a way that mimics a person's gaze, maximized anxiety/fear/empathy, frequently featured fugitives on the run from the law, and had amazing twist endings and thrilling plots. Hitchcock also popularized the use of a "MacGuffin" and cameo appearances in films. And all of these are techniques commonly used in film making today as a result! Those are the BASIC reasons he is no overrated director. If you don't like his films, fine. But you must appreciate what he did! Without him, cinematography today would not be the same at all. Especially films in the thriller/suspense genre. And maybe that's the problem. Many thriller/suspense movies after him have used his techniques and made spin-offs of his amazing plots. I'm only speculating, but maybe after watching the newer movies that HE INSPIRED you are unable to truly appreciate Hitchcock's genius. I will never know for sure.
