Burt’s Eye View: Fox and Foes
by Burt PrelutskyWhenever I hear people outside the administration prattle on about how evil and biased Fox News is, I know I am listening to a flock of parrots who have never even tuned in. As a conservative myself, I have a number of problems with the network. For one thing, I resent Bill O’Reilly’s ridiculing those who merely ask for documentation that their president was born in the United States, and I also wish he’d stop defending Obama against charges that he’s a Socialist or worse. If it walks, swims and quacks like a duck, Bill, it’s a safe bet that you can pop it in the oven and serve it at Christmastime.
I’d also appreciate it if Sean Hannity would wake up to the fact that a lot of us change the channel the second that Bob Beckel shows up on the Great American Panel.
On the other hand, I wish that merely as an experiment a dozen or so liberals could be forced to watch Glenn Beck for an entire week. I would be dying to know how they would react after watching videos of Obama, Rahm Emanuel, Cass Sunstein, Anita Dunn, Andy Stern and John Holdren spouting off when they think nobody outside the room will hear about their plans to transform America. They would have made Dr. Frankenstein blanch but put a smile on Karl Marx’s ugly mug.
Back in 1990, the police raided Barney Frank’s home because his lover, Steve Gobie, was running a male prostitution ring out of his condo. In 2007, the police raided the home of James Ready and arrested him for possession of marijuana. Ready, who is Barney’s main squeeze these days, didn’t just smoke the weed, Farmer Ready was growing the stuff. The congressman was there at the time of the raid but denied he had any idea that those plants in the backyard weren’t rhododendrons. I believe he told the police that he was perfectly clueless when it came to plant life. I guess, like Clinton, he too never inhaled.
Because I am always prepared to grant a liberal politician the benefit of the doubt, I’m sure it’s only a coincidence that Barney has long led the fight to decriminalize the use and sale of the narcotic.
Finally, I understand why so many folks are eager to impeach the president, but that obviously isn’t going to happen. Unfortunately, being a Red and despising America isn’t an impeachable offense. However, there’s nothing to prevent people from gathering signatures in order to recall their arrogant representatives.
I suggest we begin with every single one of those ACORN-loving crumbs who voted for the stimulus bill, cash for clunkers, and ObamaCare.
If their voting against the best interests of present-day American taxpayers, not to mention future generations, isn’t reason enough to throw the bums out, I can’t imagine what would be.
As with the weather, or at least the way it used to be with the weather prior to Al Gore’s turning it into his personal ATM, everyone complains about incumbents, but nobody does anything about them.

My favorite show of all is" Redeye" with Greg Gutfeld……..Finally a conservative show that's cool and hilarious. I never miss an episode. Fox needs to give Greg a better time slot.

Well said indeed! The one thing that I noticed is that Liberals don't know anything bad that happens to Democrats but they know all of the dirt on Republicans. Fox watchers know a lot of everything, good or bad for all parties. I also have learned that when someone goes on a Sarah Palin rant, you can destroy them with one word: "Why?"
If you make them explain their thoughts, they get tripped up because their hatred isn't based on facts. It's someone elses thoughts and if you don't know your product well, we all know how well you'll be able to sell it.

Oh my gosh — so glad to see this in print. . .thought it was just us — out in the land of the great unwashed — who turned the channel if we see Beckel! He outright lies on the show, uses the same 3 to 4 talking points, and does not let anyone else talk.
Examples –Claimed he was at a particular Tea Party, talked to a wheel-chair bound person and lied about what he said to them. We know the person (the only wheel chair bound person) at this particular Tea Party – they saw neither hide nor hair of this charlatan. He also lied and said he scolded the Republican operatives at the Tea Party for lying and scaring the person in the wheel chair….again — a lie. Believe me, he lied about the wrong event!
Of late, he boasted, on air, about getting into college by having an affair with his French teacher . . .what in the heck is that??? He mocks DC protest rally numbers and uses contrived figures. . .I guess he thinks we are that dumb and love everything he says?
During some appearances, the man appears drunk.
We have emailed Hannity over and over to relay the lies we were catching — and the fact, we were turning the channel. . .HANNITY PLEASE LISTEN — DON'T TURN OFF YOUR AUDIENCE. Hi all. You can't recall federal representatives (Congressmen or Senators). Recalls at the state or municipal level depend on the State's laws. I suspect that if you could recall Senators Spector would be long since gone.

Maybe they should not only decriminalize narcotics, but make them mandatory for members of congress. They couldn't do any worse than they are doing now. And think of the economic stimulus from all the Domino's pizza being delivered to the hill.

Thank You Burt for assuring me that I'm not the only one out there who simply despises Bob Beckel. Bob is such a dedicated mouthpiece for anything Democrat, that if we had video footage of Obama beating his dog Beckel would be the first one on T.V. defending the President's actions and telling us how wrong we are for condemning the beating. The more indefensible the wrongdoing is the more inane Beckel's arguments become. He's simply ridiculous!
I lost a lot of interest in Hannity during the Terry Schiavo case. There he was camped outside the hospice/nursing home every night, and all I could think of was the other patients in the place. They may have wanted some peace and quiet as they recovered (or shuffled of the mortal coil) and they got klieg lights, mobile news trucks etc. I know Hannity wasn't the only one there, and I don't like the way Terry Schiavo was euthanized, but I could only muster sympathy for the innocent bystanders (patients) who were caught in the media cross-fire.
yeah i watch O'reilly and switch the channel every time he put on Al Sharpton or that other racist Lamont Hill. I was watching one night and Bill was discussing the Tea parties with Hill and Hill claimed the protesters were racist. Bill said how is that? Hill goes look at them. Look at how old they are of course they are racist people of that generation all were. So he takes the whole WW11 generation and calls them racist. And Bill just sits there with his thumb up his ass and says nothing. Of course we all know Sharpton is a racist. I figure if he puts them on why not David Duke? As far as Beckel he is a dipstick and a fat ass. He wants health care reform because nobody will sell him health insurance. Hey Bob how about a diet and a stairmaster lard ass maybe then you can get some insurance LOL.

Before knocking Billy O'Reilly and Sean O'Hannity….try to watch MSNBC for a week instead. It's truly stunning. Maddow and Olberman NEVER have on an opposing viewpoint, aside from Pat Buchanan who spends his on camera time laughing hysterically at his own cleverness and dreaming about his next scotch on the rocks.
They consistently stop videotapes in mid-sentence in order to be able to take people's words out of context, they openly lie and distort and mislead on every story that they are not choosing to ignore, and the entire network is so absurdly dishonest that, if the Anchors were not so distasteful, venomous, unattractive, and dispiciple it would actually appear to be a parody of some kind.
Not only do they need to be voted out but they need their retirements stripped from them. Take what they have stolen from us and leave them out in the cold. Don't support the lame stream media, not their news or their prime time shows. Stop buying from GE and anyother business that trashes the conservatives. We can win this battle if we just take the first step and make the changes we need to.

The only problem I have with FOX is all the Democrat mouthpieces they have on there who mindlessly spew the talking points. These hacks never give their honest opinion. The worst is the worthless ones they have on the Saturday morning business shows that know nothing about money or economics. Their only function seems to be to set off the money people. I'm sick of the Dem hacks. I know what they are going to say before they say it.
I would watch CNN if I wanted to be bored, MSNBC if I wanted to watch lunatics, and network news for half of three day old stories.

Repeating the same old untruths while obvious evidence to the contrary is occurring is reminiscent of "Baghdad Bob" saying the capital is safe and well protected while a US Army tank rumbles by in the background. It is time for him to go, and you to hold on to audience that changes the channel when he (Bob) appears…
O'Reilly needs to step back up to his "A" game; he is letting far too many people walk on questions just to be able to have them come back in the future. He HAS to do better in challenging them. Lamont Hill should have lost complete credibility when Bill had him on. One picture of the Arizona Tea Party protester with the rifle would have ended him…and Al Sharpton? You have got to be kidding…and as far as Jesse Jackson is concerned; play his comment over "Hym*e Town" and "You can't vote against health care and call yourself a black man" the next time he's on, and have him justify that mouth…

Like what he does to advocate for children, but other than that I think when he declares his "research" as the definitive answer when challenged on something instead of having actual facts to back him up, I think it makes him look like a lazy, unprepared boob. And the vocab lessons – Grrr. Yes, that is a word.
Sean Hannity – I think he is better on the radio. I think he is smug. One time he was having a debate with a guest and thought he had cornered them and decided to plunge his sword in with a very snotty "check mate". It bugged me. It was rude and petty.
Beck. I adore him. I had a liberal in my house for two weeks. We watch Beck. Period. Our liberal hostage reacted by making fun of him and mocking him as an hysteric. THEN we would challenge him on the facts. Still hates beck I am afraid. Regarding Beck they are the very picture of the child with hands over ears screaming "lalalalalala"

I saw Beckle a couple years ago on Linda Vester's program on FOX (the one where she had an audience). I cannot remember the exact words, but he basically called her audience a bunch of idiotic a-holes.
Sometimes I get the feeling he does not believe the crap he sez. He just tows the line and picks up the check at the end of the month.
Beckel is the worst of the worst, a 5'1" midget that weighs over 250 lbs. He has no clue about anything. Just wants to emulate liberals. I live in Australia and I wish Fox would get rid of Sheperd Smith & Geraldo Rivera. I turn the channel when they're on. I also change it when Eliis Henican and Marc Lamont Hill are on O'Reilly.
You know why he never has a come back? Because he is not versed in the facts. I think he wings it. Does he do research? Know topics in and out? I don't think so. I think he has memory problems because he can never call up even the most recent things to use as arguments whenever he is challenged. His answer is always "our research sez…" What? It is never any real information to back up his arguments. He is lazy in his speech too. Too much "stuff" as a sub for the actual needed word. Why liberals hate him is so beyond me. I don't know too many conservatives that are crowing over him.

Bill5321: I did write a humor column for the L.A. Times…from 1967-1978. I was a movie critic for the UCLA Daily Bruin…from 1958-1961 and Los Angeles magazine…from 1959-1971. So whatever it is you have against humor columnists and movie critics these days can't have anything to do with me. But you might want to quit talking with a grain of salt. Bill actually schooled Quinn and chewed her up Wed. night, but why oh why even put us through having to listen to her snobbish uninformed musings on what Palin believes in..my ears were bleeding! And he just got through hammering Quinn the other night for not admitting that Hasan was a muslim terrorist. She's such a dolt.

As attractive as she is to look at her politics could'nt be more ugly, and she's a professor to boot. Now that's scary, someone responsible for teaching young adults that is so willfully bias and misinformed. I can't remember her name.

Thanks for bringing up Ellis Henican and MLH, they both cause me to reach for the remote as well as the others mentioned before you on this thread. Both Smith's and Jerry River's shows I just never watch period, despite the fact that Ann Coulter is on Rivers' show from time to time.

I stopped watching Hannity. I cant stand him chucking that football around the set like its some damn game. I also do not understand O'Reilly defending President Ding Dong. Bill we all get it ok! We know he just want's the interview. Yes I like Glenn Beck not sure where the revolt would be without him. Also last but not least. Micheal Savage. There is something very shocking about how these people are NOT defending him! Even tho Savage mocks them to the death and the deserve it. Sometimes. The man was banned from a Western Allie of ours and they say nothing. Let me remind all of you that Winston Churchill was banned from the BBC for I think 9 years. Saying things like Borders, Language, and British Culture. Savage has been way ahead of the curve on all of these topics. I think almost all of fox news is becoming just like CNN 10 years ago, with only a few exceptions. That man alone is the only one left that speaks for me. Is that a black helicopter outside?
I remember when Beckel acted as the sole "moderator" for one of the debates amongst the GOP Pres. candidates–it was during one of the years where there was no clear frontrunner, either '88 or '96, not sure which off hand. Talk about a ridiculous choice. No sooner did he growl and cut off one of the candidates, before he was attacking the next one. "Well, Senator Dole, what gives YOU the right to breathe the same air as me?" Yeesh.
And does anyone remember how he was all over the cable nets during the 2000 Florida fiasco? He had a plan to (and I quote) "kidnap a few electors" and "persuade" them to change their allegiance from Bush to Gore. The guy has zero credibility.

O'Reilly isn't really a conservative as such. If he doesn't want to spend time on the birth certificate issue, that's fine–I think if there really was a case to be made about that, the Hillary campaign would have managed to get it out there. How about the more basic issue though: Obama spent a tremendous amount of time outside of the country in his childhood years. When attending college and law school, he purposefully associated with the most far-left radicals he could find. In a very real (cultural) sense, Obama is not an American.
The Fox personality who comes closest to my own world view (by far) is Glenn Beck. I was more or less unfamiliar with him when he was at CNNHN, but now I wouldn't miss a day of his show for anything. He keeps on going back to those first principles, the founders, the Constitution, limited government, enumerated powers. etc. I've been trying to talk about this stuff to my friends and family for years, and they just don't get it. He manages to get these points across, and does it in a way that draws the viewer in, rather than having him reach for the remote to change channels.
I appreciate the Fox mission statement of "fair and balanced". But the liberal guests have to be willing to be challenged, rather than being boorish, dismissive, and accusing conservatives of being racists and Bible-thumpers. Estrich is ok, Kirsten Powers is ok. Beckel has to go, the pinhead Kool-Aid drinkers from the DNC have to go.
O'Reilly is, in reality, a coward. Apparently, when he goes after Obama, Obama's IRS threatens to audit him and O'Reilly starts with his "Obama is really a smart guy" BS.
You can always spot the boobs and libtards when they appear on FOX (the libtards are the ones with the buck teeth, crossed eyes, and drool spilling down their chins).
Glenn Beck is the only true intellect on FOX. He does his homework ALL the time and he is totally fearless. I believe that, had Beck been on FOX last year instead of on the Commie News Network, the election may have turned out differently (and only a little better since it was McCain who was the (R) candidate). Beck deserves all the respect in the world.

Precisely. I noticed almost the first time I watched O'Reilly how uninformed he is and how he is ALWAYS miles behind the curve. He's always "breaking" big stories that those of us who use the internet for news have known about for weeks.
Burt only makes the farm league while OReilly is a heavy home run hitter.

I used to like O'Reilly, but his effort to be unbiased and "just looking out for the folks" is getting a bit smarmy. Plus hawking all his O'Reilly junk is getting really annoying.

I do love his stuff but wish he would have on more guests. Use to watch him on CNN and loved a lot of his guests. He is over doing the monologue too much. He is spot on and digs for the truth. I would be dying to know how they would react after watching videos of Obama, Rahm Emanuel, Cass Sunstein, Anita Dunn, Andy Stern and John Holdren spouting off when they think nobody outside the room will hear about their plans to transform America. I have a STRONG liberal coworker (and Strong is too weak of a word to use).. .at 4 pm in the office, the tv nearest me is on the GB show ,,. (he who controls the seat, controls the TV *grin* ), and whenever it's showing one of those clips, you can picture him just sticking his fingers in his ears screaming "la-la-la-la!".
During all the Van Jones clips, where the comments were right there out in the open, it was "It doesn't matter, it's Glenn Beck making this stuff up". Or when GB puts up his chalkboard iwth the various charts/trees/etc.. My coworker acts like it's all been made up/pure fiction right out of Glenn Beck's mind.

When I have wached Rachel Maddow I am always interested to see how she almost always looks down at her papers or her desk at the end of a segment and grimaces. Good read Burt. Lots of interesting comments as well. I have a couple of observations about FOXNEWS contributers. Susan Estrich was the campaign manager for Michael Dukakis' 1988 presidential run. Bob Beckel was the campaign manager for Mondale's run. Two really big losers. While I like FOXNEWS, I find it hard to take these two jackasses. Why would anyone want to listen to their insights? Why are they considered as "experts"?
If I would have had tha guy as a college professor … I don't know how clear thinking people keep their heads.. and that damned Colmes guy and I just saw that sleazy Geraldo Riviera guy on O'Reilly a few minutes ago. Jerry Rivers is indeed how you describe him. And I ain't a fan of Bette Midler either, but she deserved better than to be trashed by Rivers. I think the ONLY reason FOX has the both of them on Bill O., and JR his own show is the appearance and some sense of "balance." I find it hard to believe that there are no thoughful and compelling liberals, but it is apparent that FOX hasn't found any. BTW Jerry Rivers was married to novelist Kurt Vonnegut's daughter, while he was catting around with the likes of Ms. Midler and others. Proving that he is both a sleazeball and a opportunist.
I emailed O'Reilly that I turn the channel when Geraldo is on. It's not hyperbole. I literally change the channel (or fast forward). He's in a class with Jesse and Al, if you ask me.

I am so glad I read this article. I, too, dislike Beckel, Estrich (Carol Channings lost daughter?) Lamont Hill and ahem, rev. Jackson and rev. Sharpton and when they appear on O'Reilly or Hannity I get glazed over. They contribute nothing and the way Beckel keeps looking at what appears a likeness of himself or cue cards I quickly turn the channel. Lately, I have noticed that O'Reilly takes a very condescending attitude with his guests and he doesnt challenge them when they start talking irrationally. It does get very tiresome to watch the antics of Beckel and friends sputter utter nonsense while O'Reilly smirks and Hannity chuckles. Beck tries to explain how it is.
