Burt’s Eye View: Telling the Truth About Lies
by Burt PrelutskyI wasn’t surprised that Rep. Joe Wilson felt compelled to apologize to President Obama for calling him a liar. I also wasn’t surprised to hear that within 24 hours, thousands of liberals had sent in over $200,000 in contributions to Wilson’s opponent in next year’s election even though they knew nothing about him except that he was running against Wilson. Frankly, I wouldn’t have been surprised if the other 434 members of the House had censured, expelled or ridden Rep. Wilson out of Washington, D.C., on a rail. I mean, where the heck does this guy get off speaking the truth in the hallowed halls of Congress?
Speaking of Congress, although the research isn’t yet complete, the early indicators are that, rumors to the contrary, you can not get swine flu from exposure to Henry Waxman.
Scientists at London’s School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine confirmed that 50 years of research found that, aside from price, there was no difference between conventionally-grown foodstuffs and the ugly, under-sized items you find in the organic section at the supermarket.
Comedian Jeff Foxworthy made his name explaining how you could tell if you were a redneck. I trust you understand that fame and fortune such as he achieved aren’t my motivation. But merely as a public service, I thought I’d point out how to recognize if you’re a racist. For instance, if you think that Jesse Jackson is an extortionist; that Al Sharpton is a con man; that Louis Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright and Van Jones are three of a kind; and that the Black Congressional Caucus, ACORN, the SEIU, the Black Panthers, Eric Holder and Barack Hussein Obama, present a clear and present danger to our Republic, you are what passes for a racist in 2009.
Frankly, I keep waiting for Obama to doff the mufti and start appearing in some nicely tailored uniform, for clearly, the cult of personality has been introduced successfully for the first time ever in our nation’s history. If you disagree, what would you call that red, white and blue Obama symbol that has pretty much supplanted the presidential seal in the past year? And outside of such places as the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, fascist Italy, Nazi Germany and Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, have you ever seen so many posters and pictures of a national leader?
Perhaps because I don’t watch very much TV, I’ve only recently become aware of a TV commercial which could easily have been written and produced by the White House, possibly under the auspices of the NEA. In the spot I saw, a deliveryman for Miller High Life shows up in a private box at the race track and confiscates all the beer from the rich and then hands the bottles over to the regular folks at the track, all the time muttering that the people who actually paid for the stuff don’t deserve it because they’re “hoity-toity.”
I realize it’s only a commercial, but if we have redistribution of wealth and health care, can redistribution of brewskis be far behind on that great-come-and-get-it-day?
Like everyone else, I noticed that in his address to Congress, Obama, who had been insisting all along that there were about 45 million people in America without health insurance, was suddenly, without explanation, referring to 30 million. It seems to me that if he can miraculously make 15 million people just disappear, all he has to do is give two more speeches to completely eliminate the problem.
Finally, I recently saw ObamaCare summed up rather succinctly by a picture of an elderly American set adrift on an ice floe. Of course, knowing David Axelrod, Rahm and Ezekiel Emmanuel, John Holdren, Cass Sunstein and AARP, as I have come to know them, I’m sure they’ll find a swell way to sell it to us. My guess is that they’ll simply call their final solution to the problem of all those pesky old folks wanting medical attention Obama’s Magical Ocean Cruises.

Gear up for 2010.
Well, then I guess I'm a racist too. Pleased to meet you fellow racist Mr. P!
Good article Burt, but in addition to Joe Wilson's opponent raising money, Joe Wilson raised a good deal of money himself from the incident. Which reminds me to go to the post office…
No, no, no! (about the old folks on the ice floes) After pushing them out onto the ice, they'll use them in their ads to promote Cap & Trade and the de facto nationalization of the energy industry! Unless we act IMMEDIATELY, the ice will melt and Granny will drown!!!

A point that I have heard only once is that earlier in the his speech B. Hussein O. Jr. referenced "lies" that others were making about his policies. In other words, he was calling his opponents in Congress, the men and women directly in front of him in the Congress audience, liars.
If he calls Congressmen liars during a joint session, the reverse should also be true to even out the public perception of the power relationship between those two branches of government.
In other words B. Hussein O. Jr. can't be allowed to act out as a badasss while Congressmen are made to duck.
Yep, we are not allowed to disagree with Dear Leader on ANYTHING, or else you're called a racist. Or worse, destroyed in the media and harassed in your personal life.
That this is happening in America is what makes me most angry.
OK who has got the picture of the seniors on the ice flow ….
I too feel the same away about that Miller beer commercial. Although I don't drink that swill (Sam Adams man here), that commercial rubs me the wrong way. Then again, those people could've purchased a better beer to begin with (again, shameless plug for Sam Adams).
Be careful in the future when old people start disappearing and a tasty green food substitute appears. "IT'S PEOPLE!"
I always thought that Wilson affair was something along the lines a scene were everybody is yelling at once as an unintelligible crowd, until everyone dies down except for the one person who doesn't realize until it's too late that the room has gone quiet. Wanna get away?
.
Ok looks like they are trying to fight back. Everyone needs to see this email i received from Media Matter for America
http://mycityblog.net/2009/09/24/media-matters-fo...
Joe Wilson actually does have Racist Connections. Him yelling "You Lie" wasnt a big deal anyway you look at it, just saying, people shouldnt get to supportive of someone who actually has worked for racists.
I see a cult of personality developing much like what has happened in the past when populists have "stood up for the worker class".
It's a bit hypocritical to complain about people calling you a racist just because you happen to disagree with some politicians that aren't white, and then compare the administration to the Nazis.
And what makes them Hitler-like communist baathists (an oxymoron, since all of those groups hate each other)? There are lots of pictures and posters of Obama. It's not like the government is putting up these posters, or forcing people to attend parades in their honor. Those posters and signs are bought by supporters on their own, putting principles of the free market at work. Besides, wasn't the Sarah Palin Calendar one of amazon's best selling items last year?
And as for the commercial, many companies (just like politicians) try to appeal to working class Americans. You're reading way too much into a commercial, and for what point? To say that Obama want's us to think he cares more about the poor than the rich? Almost any politician would take that same stance. Reagan did, Bush 41 did, Clinton did, Bush 43 did, and Obama does too.
Yet for quite a while (at least most of the past decade) more of that we-hate-the-elites and defining of what a "real" American is has come from the right, not the left. Sure, the conservatives don't want to take from the rich to give to the poor, but they do use that as just another reason to dislike guys like Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, the Clintons, John Edwards, and any liberal from the North-East or California.
Lastly, Medicare is a government run insurance option for the elderly, which was opposed by conservatives and push through by liberals, so how do you conclude that the left wants to murder old people? Why would AARP want to hurt their own membership numbers by knocking them off early? If you're calling for more funding to go towards helping the old, isn't that just more big government interfering in their lives?

This is a pivotal time in the history of our Republic. We are the generation of citizens who must take action. Like the generation who wrote the Declaration of Independence and later The Constitution, we must be willing to risk everything that we have. If we are unable or unwilling to do this then there is no chance of stopping this attack on our Country and our Constitution that has already made very significant progress.
No longer will we be able to trust that our elected representatives are doing their jobs; we will have to actively make them accountable for each and every day of their service. Of course, if we don't turn the direction of the USA now, this point will be moot.
I could not agree more. BHO was just then in the process of calling all of US liars. Good for the goose, good for the gander
The AARP doesn't have to worry about membership numbers as long as they continue to get government funds.
"It seems to me that if he can miraculously make 15 million people just disappear, all he has to do is give two more speeches to completely eliminate the problem."
If he gave a speech about loaves and fishes, he could eliminate hunger, too.
What we're missing is that htis stuff has been happening all along, observed by the more regular political junkies, and now, thanks to Obama, the filthy deception, media complicity, and anti-democratic impulse of those in the ruling class, is at last out of the closet. My friends who have looked at me strangely over the last several decades are now coming about -except for the Obama-zombies among them, who feedd upon untruths.
SILENT NO MORE. You don't need to be a young good for nothing out of work anarchist to protest what is wrong with the country. Thank god for the internet and computer savvy conservatives, there is still hope.
The term Racist has been flung around so often and so sillily (is that a word?) that it is fast losing it's sting.
Can't wait for the day somebody — when called a racist — breaks out in a loud guffaw.
For now, we need to use the old kids' retort of "takes one to know one."
Burt, there is about 30% of this country who have absolutely fallen hook, line, and sinker for this cult of personality. Quack-daffy said it perfectly yesterday at the UN when he voiced his concerns about not being able to trust America after Obama was gone and how the world could help the US keep Obama in power beyond his two terms.
If we get an honest election in 2012 it will be a miracle. The Mayan calendar ends on Dec 22, 2012. Perhaps after 7 weeks of a massive, voter fecal-storm rebellion, we are all going to be excited to see Dec 22 arrive.
Great link SC, Is the Eric Burns that signed that message, the same Eric Burns that used to be host of the FOX news show about the media, "Newswatch?"
I wondered the same thing about the 15 million people that disappeared from the uninsured lists.
Will we see a cover story from Newsweek declaring "We are all Racists" in the same vein as "We are all Socialists" any time soon??
maybe he lied, maybe not…
However, in the subsuquent days following the dustup his insurance 'math' sure changed, didn't it? Magically the uninsured went from 46 million (including illegals? surely you jest) to 30 million.
Funny how the media just let that slip through the cracks. After all, what's 16 million people between friends?
for once and thanks to obama – I am proud to be called a RACIST
good job obozo
Just wondering. Is David Paterson now a racist? The nerve of him speaking the way he did. He has no idea what it is like being the first African-American head of a large government.
Oh wait……Paterson is black? Never mind.
And that's a lot more truthful than any ad featuring a polar bear on a small piece of ice. After all, polar bears are willing and able to swim for miles and miles. The elderly will simply get hypothermia and drown much more quickly than the Titanic survivors did.
are we going to be prepared for the riots by "obama sycophants" at his loss in 2012
the calls of America as racist will escalate throughout the world – cant wait
but by then, America may not exist and we may not be voting – ie – honduras or chavezland
Already happened in a sense. They ran an article that says all babies are racist as early as six months old. The research they use concluded this because babies could differentiate between light and dark skin colors. So see? We're all born racist.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the missing 15 or 16 million people. I guess that's what happens when you have DHS concentration camps … /whacky conspiracy theorist
Surely, the school systems are not so inept that people can't tell what equals what anymore. Maybe their attention spans and memories are just that short.
Oh I forgot about that, thanks aharris. There's a quote from the book "Ball Four" in which a ballplayer said after being sent down to the minors once again said. "I never thought I was a bad ballplayer, but they're making a believer out of me." Perhaps I and others can substitute "bad ballplayer," for "racisist."
If someone yells out "You Lie!" in the halls of Congress, how does anyone know who they are referring to?
Fed up with Obama? Check out this song at: http://www.myspace.com/rogerweber
You'll feel better.
Thus people should not get too supportive of Barry. Check.
We are talking about a liberal. What one hand gives is what the other hand has taken from someone else, minus a handling charge.
I am still wondering about other magic numbers. Old Joe was quoting something around 200,000 jobs "saved or created," then about three weeks later in Barry's big speech it is up to one million, then by the media blitz not even a week later it is up to one and a half million.
For a proper study of this effect, we need to see what happens when he stops doing anything and shuts the heck up. Come on Barry, do it for science!
You might not get swine flu from Waxman, but you could get crabs and an evil itch.
Great piece Burt
Oh geez…more of the Paul Rubin School of Debate – "I know you are but what am I?" Can you PLEASE be more original?
And frankly no conservative I know wants to take money away from the Kennedys or Kerrys or Clintons (AS IF any of their money was garnered by anything other than a fundraiser or handout) etc etc etc…they just want those bald-faced liars to shut up their preaching how we the hoi poloi should take it on the chin and give up OUR earnings to fund their stupid programs or pork bills. If they want to make lots of money and keep it, FINE BY ME and FINE by a lot of other conservatives…but STFU about how to spend MY money.
Try again Tom. I know you're really struggling to be on the same wavelength as the conservatives on this board, but you REALLY need to tear up that Daily Kos degree, okay?
They're going to use old white people to increase the reflectivity of the worlds oceans, no need for that pesky pollutant white paint. Of course they'll have to bury those with deeper tans, if you get my drift.
It's not like the government is putting up these posters, or forcing people to attend parades in their honor.
This government is illegally using the NEA , giving grants to favored artists, and then conducting meetings with those grantees to suggest the agenda for their work. Also, in response to a grassroots opposition to Health Care, this adminsitration called in the unions to harrass and assault people at townhall meetings in an attempt to quell opposition. Considering that the President threw out the existing bankruptcy laws in order to give Union pensions an illegal claim on the bankrupt auto companies assets and then funnelled tax payer billions to the companies, it seems that a Quid Pro Quo is in place. So yes, it is like the government is putting up the posters and forcing people to attend the meetings.
cheers.
The people who sent money to Joe Wilson knew what kind of candidate he was, as opposed to those who sent money to an unknown candidate.
Mr. P, you summed it up rather succinctly. I am soooo redneck, I should stock up on some aloe…
BTW: Did you hear about how there is no longer a smell of sulfur at the UN meet? Hugo says that now there's a certain "Eau de Poop" in l'aire………
If he gave a speech about raising from the dead, he would have Kennedy back.
But, he won't do it, cause he's afraid Obamacare will become Kennedycare.
I don't like black jelly beans, and I find them to be the most bitter of all candies and think they should stay separated from all of the candies I do like so that their gross-ness doesn't rub off on them…for example, the white vanilla flavored jellybeans (my favorite flavor).
Does that make me racist?
On a side note, I also happen to think that the brown Dr. Pepper jelly bellies smell like cat pee (seriously, I do…I worked in a candy store for awhile and noticed it).
I don't think "Racist Connections" needs to be capitalized, unless it's the name of a whites only dating service.
Heart warming anecdote. Did the store owner, perchance, have a cat?

Burt-
to be completely accurate, since we're talking about lies and all, the London study said that there was no
nutritional difference between organic and other produce. It didn't address the issue of pesticide contamination, which is a major selling point to oganic buyers.
But everything else- yep.
LOL I certainly hope not…that would explain it, though. It was really weird because the flavor of the jellybeans was just fine, but for some reason that scent was another thing altogether.
Toasted Marshmallow was my favorite flavor
