Honoring September 11th: Days of Infamy
by Burt PrelutskyThere are certain dates that are indelibly etched in our minds because they were drummed into us in school, such as the 1066 Battle of Hastings; some because they commemorate joyous events such as July 4th, December 25th or the births of our children; and some because they remind us to never forget how quickly everyday life can be turned into something horrific.
The first of three such dates for Americans is 12/7/41. That was, as FDR put it, a day of infamy. It was a Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas when, without warning, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, killing 2,335 servicemen and 68 civilians.
The second of the nightmarish dates was 9/11/01 when 19 Islamics hijacked four airliners and murdered 2,998 human beings, most of whom were Americans.
The third such date was 11/4/08, when 64,385,746 American voters decided it would be a fine idea to vote for a man who said that if push came to shove, he would side with Islamics.
If you lost loved ones in Hawaii 68 years ago or in Manhattan 8 years ago, I can fully understand why you would disagree with me when I insist that the third of those dates is the most tragic. The reason I voice that opinion is because, aside from the 5,401 innocent lives lost, ships, planes and skyscrapers can always be re-built. But once lost, freedom and liberty can not always be regained.

You know what, Burt? I think it's gonna be okay. Our last election day isn't gonna end up being the beginning of the end.
The creators of this website have provided an important outlet for angry Right Wing extremists who are exasperated at the brutal truth of a liberal-leaning President, and a painfully-small Republican proportion of seats in both houses of Congress. If those frustrated conservatives didn’t have a venue such as this one to vent their pent-up anger, they would be kicking their dogs, beating their kids and spouses, initiating road rage (all to a larger degree than their typical levels) which in many cases could escalate to hate crimes, random killings and even the burning of crosses. We Americans who do not identify ourselves as “Righties” appreciate the efforts of bighollywood.com, biggovernment.com, the Drudge Report and lunatic talk radio for keeping our society safe for us all.
When did Obama say that if push came to shove he would side with "Islamics?"
Also it's absolutely despicable that anyone would say that the election of a man to a four year term of office is more tragic than the deaths of thousands of our countrymen. You cannot impeach death, or overturn murder. Shame on you and anyone who gives kudos to this filth. Way, way over the line.
It seems to me from reading Huff and Kos that those are the angry lunatics, you got what you paid for, you should be happy.
In his books.
That's a meaningless statement. How about an excerpt from a passage or a citation?
He may be saying that if you do not recognize the Evil distortion of history, you yourself may have to live in an Evil land.
Pearl Harbor: 2,402 killed and 1,282 wounded, and it was called "a day of infamy".
9-11-01: 2,993 people, died in the attacks, and it was called "terrorism".
Yearly: United States: 1,000,000+ babies murdered and it is called "rights".
I think we know who the real "terrorists" are, they will live in "infamy".
Just once.. for one day… can you people set down your politics and honor the memories of others?!
ddaichiro echoes Contessa Brewer (Alinsky, et ilk):

What does that even mean? Did he not state "Obama's election was a more tragic event than the attacks on 9/11" ?
[...] An excellent, brief essay by Burt Prelutsky at Big Hollywood: Honoring September 11th: Days of Infamy. [...]
I think it's gonna be okay too. That doesn't mean we let up on these bastards though.
Prelutsky is the true nihilist, oblivating reason and fact. This is vitrol of the worst sort and dishonors the writer and those who affirm these remarks.
History will tell you of a President that stands in Turkey and says to the Muslim nations we are not a christian nation. He stands in the House Chamber in the USA and speaks to the American people under the only Motto engraved in stone the only Motto in that vast room. In God We Trust. He said WAKE UP!
"But once lost, freedom and liberty cannot always be regained." Wise words well put Burt – thank you.
Blah blah blah. YOU are No Facts, All Prattle. Are they not doing enough at Kos or HuffPo to keep your short attention span occupied? Gads, it must be HARD for your brain to process the substance provided here at Big Hollywood…but Ill give you credit, you keep coming here and trying. Until you actually do get a clue, shut up and read.
Once again: show me where he said he was going to side with Muslim terrorists over his own country.
It will certainly do more damage to the nation.
Miles, you lazy POS, learn to read. Don't let everyone else do your work for you.
Right. Just like the election of 1933 in Weimar was no big deal, right? After all, nobody was killed….
Show me were he has sided with American values. Not Progressive values, American Values. Actually don't bother. Enjoy your National Day of Service today. night night
“So this is how freedom dies, to thunderous applause…”
This doesn't address Prelutsky's trivialization of the deaths of nearly 3000 people 8 years ago.
Prove to me that you've read this information and have any idea what you're talking about. Give us a citation.
BO is not the only one that imperils freedom and liberty. Seems to me both sides of the aisle relish snapping up those freedoms. Not only that – what about the apathetic public only too willing to gobble up the rubbish they are spoon fed by their reps and the MSM? If we lose our freedom and liberty it won't be be because BO won the presidency, it will be OUR fault. If you do not guard it and hold it preciously to your heart, it will easily slip away.
Interesting. Obama thug bites off finger of man in California. SEIU thugs beat a man in St. Louis for daring to oppose the Anointed One. Democratic Party activist vandalizes Party headquarters in Denver. Pro-Life activist shot to death in drive-by shooting today. And fools like you accuse those who cherish their freedom of being the violent ones. Perhaps you could tell Barney Frank which planet you spend most of YOUR time on.
We Americans who do not identify ourselves as “Righties” appreciate the efforts of bighollywood.com, biggovernment.com, the Drudge Report and lunatic talk radio for keeping our society safe for us all.
Correct, you should be grateful. Your post illustrates that obviously you are unable to do your own thinking, or at least thinking that makes any sense.
The weather is nice…be a good little boy; go outside and play in your sandbox.
Now Lawrence, you need to cheer up, how about a Polka?
I insist that the third of those dates is the most tragic.
Agreed, but for a slightly different reason…it points to the willingness of 48% of Americans to no longer be Americans. That this 48% was either duped to choose or actively chose personal and national stagnation and decline is tragic beyond compare, as it could doom 304 million Americans (and perhaps much of the rest of the world) to loss of freedom and liberty.
I don't have to prove anything to you. I have read it and that is that. You are a closed-minded bigot. If most of us here want to learn something we go and do the work for ourselves, we aren't led around like serfs like your types are.
So basically what you're saying is that this statement doesn't exist in written (or any other) form, and that you'd rather lob platitudes at me because you know that your argument isn't based in fact?
I just reread it just to check myself out. It's from the vapidly titled memoir of a do-nothing called The Audacity of Hope. He specifically states that should push come to shove he would side with Islam. Don't bother to read it, nothing would change your mind anyway. By the way, do you get paid by the word to be a troll?
Burt-
I was embarrassed for my country when an utterly corrupt sleazebag like Bill Clinton was twice elected to lead this great nation. But I am truly sickened by the election of the current Pretender in Chief. Never in the existence of the USA have we chosen someone so completely, so blatantly, unqualified for the job (regardless of his political positions and deliberately veiled history) and there has never been a greater percentage of our populace who couldn't care less about this inarguable fact.
So yeah, your assessment of his election may appear vitriolic, hyperbolic, and to some, even alcoholic, but my great fear is that it will end up being the one we regret most of all…
Remember in school how you had to cite things like written works and studies and other research to back up your arguments? That's generally how it works in the real world, as well. At least among people with a shred of intelligence or any critical thinking skills. Rush Limbaugh does it. Bill O'Reilly does it. Milton Friedman, Bill Kristol, and W.F. Buckley all do it. Glenn Beck doesn't, but he has neither of the qualities described above.
Seriously, all you have to do is cite a page number or a paragraph in that book in which Obama states he would side with Muslim extremists over his own country, and I will cede this entire argument. I'll admit that we're led by a Christian-hatin' commie sonofabitch. Just gimme a page number.

That;s a good question, Can you? I didn't think so. We remember both sides of the issue today. Which side are you on?
This is from FactCheck.org:
Misleading e-mail: From Audacity of Hope: "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."
Actual quote from "The Audacity of Hope" [pg. 261]: Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
That's enough, read it for yourself. I don't have a copy of the book here, I have Google and so do you. Look it up for yourself after you change your diapers. At the risk of getting banned, it's people like you who make me look forward to the day when we patriots take our country back. Get ready, it will happen and I hope you get what you deserve.
So the passage Mike is referring to is detailing how Arab and Pakistani American _citizens_ (not "Islamics") wanted assurances that we wouldn't put them all in camps en masse if the lunatic fringe demanded it. Good to know!
Never picked one so unqualified?
Coming off the past eight years, THAT'S a laugh.
It's perfectly understandable people here would find President Obama being in office more despicable than President Clinton misbehaving in office. President Clinton isn't part black.
But no specifics or sources, right?
Looks like you got an answer to THAT question
Both sides of which issue being what?
Well, I am reading your comment, and it doesn't advance my understanding one bit. Show me the substance, please.
Only lazy bigoted sheep need things like "facts" and "numbers." I FEEL HIS ANTI-AMERICANISM IN MY GUT
It's not trivialization. One tragedy does not lessen the impact of another tragedy. What he says though, is that the effects of 9/11 and the attack on Pearl Harbor only damaged our bodies and our stuff. The election of Obama has the potential to damage our Freedom.
Iraq and Afghanistan, those are small scale wars. Wars for freedom are big: think 1775-1783 and 1861-1865.
My, my. The description you provide for people you refer to as "righties" makes them seem almost… evil.
his side, and all these socialist commie unamerrikun dummies, of course
Check the unemployment numbers. (can be blamed on Bush, whether rightly or not)
Check the national debt. (cannot be blamed on Bush, not by any stretch of the imagination)
Check the tax revenues.
Check the party affiliation of those engaging in thuggish behavior at protests.
But once lost, freedom and liberty can not always be regained.
Not without a lot of spilt blood.
Please. At least the previous occupant of the office of Most Powerful Man on Earth knew how to host foreign heads of state.
His actions kept us safe while making him incredibly unpopular. The current occupant won't blow his nose unless the people cheer for him.
It's not his color of his skin that bothers us. It's the content of his character.
* His actions kept us safe while making him incredibly unpopular *
Yeah…not like we were attacked on our soil, on his watch or anything.
As for his conduct with heads of state, at least Obama has yet to try to give one a backrub.
Projection, thy name is Sharon.
If it bothers you, change the channel. Head over to DKos or something.
Said the nobody non-blogger parrot, J Michael.
LOL!
And it's his fault we were attacked? I suppose it's the victim's fault she was raped? Or the Jews' were at fault for being sent to concentration camps.
We got suckerpunched. No one saw that one coming, no matter who investigates, Al Quaida caught us with our pants down, looking in the wrong direction. Bush made &*() sure that didn't happen again. As goalie, he let one shot get through. But he saved a lot more.
You guys really do celebrate your stupidity, don't you?
Better a backrub than a set of DVDs (incorrect region DVDs) in return for an especially poignant and historically-impprtant gift from the British PM!!
And 9/11 was Clinton's F-up you profoundly retarded sack of myopic dung.
No, he was just "the first black President".
IDIOT.
Awww…nine months out of office, and you're still carrying water for the fake cowboy.
If you can show me a rape victim or that the Jews had a memo from the previous administration to watch out for their plights, I wish you'd share.
As for Bush making sure that it never happened again, well, maybe he had a magic rock or something.
list of our military who have died under this potussa's watch: http://conservativeamerican.org/military/soldiers...
don't hold back next time, burt!
nonsense – clinton was our FIRST black potus!
Wow…that's SLIGHTLY transparent.
It certainly is very sad and depressing that 279 soldiers have been killed during President Obama"s administration. It is also very sad and depressing that 4,469 were killed during President Bush's administration.
Please help me understand what your use and capitalization of the word IDIOT adds to any discourse.
OK, specifically and objectively prove-ably, what in the content of his character?
Well, I cannot help but admire your admission of your racism. That is a very good beginning.
Watch out, Man. She called someone a nobody non-blogger earlier. She's vicious!
You're one to ask about "adding to discourse" you shameless, repugnant race-baiter.
Espian2, you are completely ignorant of anything important. You are truly stupid. You have no business here wasting intelligent people's time.
Says the blogger equivalent of Tourette's…
You mean the man that the community-organizer is blaming for all his own failures? That guy?
He doesn't need anyone to carry his water.
BTW, how's that Gitmo-closing stuff going? Obama figured out how he's going to make good on that promise yet? Looks like Bush knew what he was doing after all!
You're right. Now, he might want someone to carry his booze.
You should remember, America doesn't start over just because a President is elected. A President's actions have implications past his term. In fact, weren't you the one who just whined "But…9/11 wasn't Bush's fault!"
As for Bush knowing what he was doing…well, he was sure good at clearing brush. If only those skills could have been of use in Afghanistan.
If you had ANY intelligence you would know that made absolutely no sense. But, since you're mentally deficient, you're ignorant regarding this.
This is why the Left cannot retain power nor wield it. People like you flock to the Left and away from reason and intelligence.
Be happy, ixi…. the days ahead will only get progressively worse for you and your ideologue friends.
Reason and intelligence?
Is that what you call it when you can't hold a conversation?
And, by the way, calling people names isn't much of a conversation this side of first grade.
You truly are stupid.
That's all that can be said about your posts, and the brain that allows no logic to penetrate whatsoever.
I will not be sucked into your bleak hole of idiocy anymore. You deserve to be a loser your entire life, so have fun with that.
Really?
Where are your posts of stellar intelligence? They sure as hell aren't on your blog.
PROJECTION for what lefties do every day. Why do you think they call the Taxed Enough Already Parties and Townhall meetings Astro-Turf? It's because virtually ALL lefty protests ARE Astro-Turf!
Your argument is outstanding. Especially all that evidence you provided…
Nope. Actually, just the same old talking points. Glenn Beck must be proud
PROJECTION from the lefty. Epic Fail.
PROJECTION, yet again by the brain damaged lefty.
OK, I had fun yesterday responding to trolls, but they're getting out of hand. Where's the RAID? I'll pass today. They just eat up bandwidth trying to get us to explain*explain*explain when they wouldn't burn a calorie to see if what we're saying is actually true or if they, themselves, are full of stuff.
Oh, and I checked the lib sites. They're being very non-political and respectful today. Many of them are closed down with a mere black ribbon across the Index page. On one I can hear Keith Olbermann singing a lament. It's really quite touching because, you know, liberals are never hypocrites.
Just trolling along, trying to insult everyone who disagrees with your point of view. I guess all you red diaper doper babies, love to project. Are you done beating your wife, and kids, and kicking your dog?
Don't know why it double posted, but here goes:
You can judge a lot about someone by who he surrounds himself with. You don't get a clear picture of a man, but you can get some basic ideas. Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Van Jones–these are not savory characters. They're vehemently anti-American, one of them is a self-proclaimed terrorist, another is a communist, and 2/3rds of the above are outspoken black supremacists that think "we got what we deserved on 9/11."
Obama is a narcissist. Pretty much the only job he's held since graduating college is "running for office." He's never completed a full term as senator. While senator, he spent most of his time running for President, and therefore was not present for many votes. For the votes where he was in attendance, he voted Present more often than he voted yay or nay. Combined. His voting record is here: http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/membe...
I was a Science teacher on 9/11 here in Florida. My kids asked me what should we do to protect ourselves. I said that there are about 1 Billion Moslems in the world and that about 10% of them were these crazies, a number I read. I continued that this means about 100 Million who were the Islamic crazies or just say 50 Million at the least. These people will not compromise whatsoever which means that the amount of killing required to rid ourselves of these nuts will scare the Hell out of us. Nothing has changed my opinion since. Either we fight for survival or the barbarians win.
Take your pick.

He campaigned on a platform of transparency, claiming that every bill would be posted online for a full business week prior to congressional votes on said bill. He then rushed or attempted to rush through several 1000+ page bills, without posting them online, without giving those voting on the bills time to read them.
He's a sorry host to foreign dignitaries. He recieved priceless, one-of-a-kind gifts from the prime minister of Great Britain while returning an old priceless, one-of-a-kind gift along with a few bargain bin dvds-in an incompatible format for European dvd players.
He encouraged people to inform the government of "fishy" internet postings that posited an opinion other than his regarding health care.
He doesn't speak concisely. He may enunciate well, but he never uses 1 word when 10 will do. And for all his wordiness, he's very short on details, even when asked directly. Also, he pre-screens the questions. He doesn't know his own platform well enough to answer off-the-cuff questions from reporters.
cont'd
Some of the decisions he has made have failed miserably. (Remember Stimulus 1?) Instead of owning up to the mistake, he's tried to throw good money after bad and fix the problem with more of the same. If it didn't work the first time, it's not likely that it'll work a second time.
Some of his priorities seem skewed. Instead of working on the details (he admits they're not there) of the health plan, he's trying to legislate the college bowl system. Or pick out a dog. Or Twitter. A little less style and a lot more substance would be refreshing.
That's why we don't like him. It's got nothing to do with the fact that he's black.
Here, I agree with you.
Here, I agree with you. We're better than that, people. AVOID THE AD HOMINEMS! IT MAKES US LOOK BAD!
Knottie, I gotta tell you I'm pretty far to the right on most issues, I listen to Glenn Beck regularly, am a member of a 9/12 group and despises the "values" espoused by liberals. But….you are absolutely right. Today is no day for agendas. Today is a day we remember the tragic loss of so many of our fellow citizens, many of whom we would have disagreed with vehemently. Men, women, young and old and of every racial stripe and creed. They were Americans and we dishonor them by fighting with one another today.
That's like saying "Show me where there are 'death panels' or "Show me where it says we'll give illegals the same health care rights". You all are a sneaky, underhanded lot – it's a sin of omission, not commission. There are no words that say "death panel", just language that in a twisted and sneaky way allows a panel to deny treatment based on their judgement of worth to society. There are no words that specifically mention illegal aliens, but there is absolutely no mechanism to monitor or enforce or even be allowed to ask the citizenship of someone who presents themselves for treatment.
Obama may not have specifically said it, but his decision (and he can't blame it on his lackey AG) to prosecute CIA agents who were operating under lawful guidelines, show where his sympathies lie. Actions speak louder than any weasel words.
Do you have a gut? Only gutless people who can't and won't look you in the eye and admit the truth, but use instead weasel words to evade, twist and distort, can support Obama and his lies. He has surrounded himself with people who are far left and who work to destroy our country. You are either a fool or a knave.
For 64,385,746 American voters, November 4, 2008 is the day we started taking our American freedoms back from those who for eight years tried to demolish them. I don't trust Nancy Pelosi, I don't donate to the Democratic National Committee, I thank God for the 2nd Amendment, but not for the NRA, I generally vote for Democrats because, as I remind all my sincere, patriotic, hard-working, thoughtful, Republican friends, those words don't describe the Republicans who run for office. I'd like to see a decent Republican run in 2016, because the Dems will be degenerating in the usual we've-been-in-office-a-long-time mode, but I'm not hopeful one will be available.
