Burt’s Eye View: Clunkers, Clunkers Everywhere
by Burt PrelutskyUnlike most conservatives, when I first heard about cash for clunkers, I got very excited. But then I found out that it involved people turning in their used cars. I had jumped to the conclusion that we were all going to get money if we delivered politicians to some collection center. Just imagine getting $4,500 for dropping off, say, Henry Waxman at a junkyard where, together with fellow California jalopies like Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, they could be crushed and shipped off to China. You would have to agree that would be a pretty good deal even if no money changed hands.
–
One of my liberal readers sent me an e-mail stating that the health care system in America is in terrible shape and needs a huge overhaul, which is why he was supporting Obama’s plan. I wrote back to say that I agreed that the system needed fine-tuning, but, like Charles Krauthammer, I felt that the work consisted mainly of separating health insurance from employment and bringing about radical tort reform so that doctors didn’t have to spend more time worrying about being sued than they did about the health of their patients. I went on to add that if I was wrong, things could always be changed, but if he and Obama were wrong, a huge federal bureaucracy would be created and you can’t kill one of those even with a silver bullet or a wooden stake through its heart.
Speaking of money, I read recently that a child born in 2008 will cost his or her parents just under $300,000 to raise to the age of 18. As if that’s not bad enough, it will then take another $100,000 or so to get him or her through college; at which point, after four years of indoctrination by tenured pinheads, they’ll come to regard their meal tickets as bourgeois ignoramuses. My advice to prospective parents is to get a dog. You’ll get unconditional love; they’ll never insist on borrowing your car and, best of all, they will never bite the hand that feeds them.
Usually when people suggest that a picture is worth a thousand words, I, who specialize in doling out wisdom a thousand or so words at a time, take it personally. However, even I thought the now famous photo taken at the beer summit was worth several thousand words. While Cambridge police officer Crowley assisted the physically handicapped Henry Gates down the White House steps, Barack Obama blithely ignored him, far more concerned with having his picture taken than with helping his old friend.
Speaking of Obama, every time I see him, the theme song from “The Jeffersons” starts playing in my head: “We’re movin’ on up to the east side. To a deluxe apartment in the sky…We finally got a piece of the pie.” There’s no insult intended. Not to George Jefferson, at any rate. He worked very hard, opening and operating a chain of dry cleaning stores. He wasn’t a community organizer, which, in case you weren’t aware of it, is code for a left-wing activist. Obama was up to his ears in dirty Chicago politics; Jefferson, on the other hand, was dedicated to cleaning dirty laundry.
Because I had recently acknowledged that I had grown disenchanted with Bill O’Reilly, a reader asked me who my media favorites are. There are several I enjoy, including Charles Krauthammer, Walter Williams, Ann Coulter, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved, Laura Ingraham and Lee Rodgers. A couple of others that I admire are Glenn Beck and Michael Savage. Both convey a great deal of passion, and I find Beck very funny.
Frankly, I don’t know why the fact that Savage has been denied entry to England hasn’t received the attention it deserves. Like the member of the Dutch parliament, Geert Wilders, the reason for his exclusion is the direct result of Islamic pressure groups. Savage’s daily radio show, one of the highest-rated in America, isn’t even broadcast in England. But that didn’t prevent Home Secretary Jacqui Smith from putting him on the same list of undesirables as known terrorists and murderers. Smith declared in her announcement: “We want to ensure that the names disclosed reflect the broad range of cases and are not all Islamic extremists.” So, in a clumsy attempt to be even-handed, the loony Brits suggested that a Jewish talk show host was as dangerous as Muslim terrorists, neo-Nazis and a Russian serial killer.
But I probably shouldn’t be throwing stones at the English, considering that Obama and his commissars are labeling Americans who just happen to oppose Cap & Trade, billions for clunkers and to the havoc the leftists are trying to wreak on our health care system, as brainless sheep. Large groups of citizens rise up to voice their grievances and he calls them mobs, claims that grass roots are really made of Astroturf and tells his minions to ape the Soviets and rat out their friends and neighbors. Some people I know refer to what Obama is doing as social engineering. I think it’s something even worse: socialist engineering.
I wonder if anyone else has noticed that whenever a black conservative voices an opinion, the liberal claque insists that he’s not an authentic black, and when a white conservative voices an opinion, Obama’s sycophants insist he’s not an authentic American.
When Obama was running for the presidency, a few of us Paul Revere wannabes were warning you: “The reds are coming! The reds are coming!”
Naturally, Obama, a born and bred race hustler who learned his lessons well from Jeremiah Wright, wanted you to believe that the only reason people could possibly have for opposing him was his race. But it was never about the color of his skin. It was always about the color of his politics.

Yes, it was/is about the color of his politics. (Wondering why conservative states are "red" instead of "blue", considering red is associated with communism and fiery rhetoric while blue is calm, assured, steady.)
Anyhow ~ seeing how Obama takes advantage of his biraciality (?) by playing one side of himself against the other, there can be no winner. It really is unfortunate that the first non-Caucasian president is turning out to be such a complete loser.
Authenticity? among Bo and his BO bots? Surely you jest…
This parody draws a similar analogy: "Democrats Push Greenbacks for Geezers Program" http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/08/democrats-pus...
Obama is a narcissist, and likely a pathological one at that. The best thing we can do is to continue oppose him vocally and visibly. He will at first (as he has been doing) make excuses and accusations dismissing the opposition to his rule as somehow inauthentic. He'll say it is astroturf, or that the people have been "tricked", but if the pressure is kept up, and kept visible, and it can be made to appear to him that the people really have turned on him, he will snap. The moment he no longer sees the people of this nation as beneficial to his ego, as soon as he sees them as enemies to the fantasy of his own greatness which he has constructed, he will lash out spectacularly. Once the American people are devalued in his eyes, he will show his true colors to everyone.
What we need, in short, is to play upon his profound psychological weakness.
You covered some many great topics in this piece you make it hard to comment. So I will keep it short. For those who may not know or have listened to Dennis Prager you need to seek him out you will not be disappointed.
Burt, superb piece of work keep em coming!
[...] Clunkers of a different kind over at Big Hollywood. [...]
OK Burt, you will now be boycotted in the same manner as Beck. Oh! and don't even think of going to Merry Old England. Say hi to Geert for me, will ya?
I note Rush is off your list. Any reason? Great post as usual.
The reason for insults and the dismissive attitude on the left is they must do everything possible to prevent an honest debate based upon facts, logic and reason. Facts, logic and reason are leftist Kyrptonite. They are powerless against it.
I'm having an email debate with a liberal right now, and he's withering under the assault of facts. He stopped replying this morning when I proved he didn't even read the evidence he sent me to prove his point. I think he's pouting.
Also, if you haven't checked out Dr. Thomas Sowell's writing over at Town Hall on the web, I gladly recommend him. Especially his book "Basic Economics: A Citizen's Guide to the Economy." Fantastic reading on one of the most misunderstood academic disciplines in modern society, basic economics. He explains in detail why pretty much every modern liberal standard is not only wrong, but actually makes things worse.
He refers to a Swedish, socialist economist – avowed hater of capitalism – referring to rent control as the most efficient method for destroying a city, next to bombs.
That's why the colors are what they are – so folks will be psychologically induced to vote Democrat.
You'll notice no party uses the color white.

ddaichiro: Maybe you should step back and take an honest look at WHO ISN'T showing up at the town hall meetings to engage in political discourse about Obamacare, and how many of your vaunted democrat representatives themselves, by your standards, qualify as 'cowards'.
If we had shipped FDR to China in 1933 we would have been spared 8 years of failed New Deal policies.
Note: It was WW2 that brought us out of the depression because we were forced to abandon the utopian new deal cartel strategies.

That picture makes me sad (although it was clearly a set up). Gates was perfectly prepared to destroy Crowley's life, and likely everything associated with it, to fit his narrative. Who knows what would've happened, Crowley's family may have fractured over it. Your going to help a man that wouldn't think twice about destroying you and everything you hold dear? Push em down the stairs I say.
Before the election, I told all my friends about the truth about Obama being the most liberal senator, Bill Ayers, Rev. Wrigth, Father Flager and everything else. They told me, he was a moderate, he said so in between American Idol and Survivor! I told him, vote for him and he'll go so far left, you won't believe it.
Fast forward to today, My friends are mad at me, cause I told them the truth. And now, they wanted me to try to influnce them a little bit harder.
Felt the same way when I felt snowed into voting for Clinton in 92.
i was rereading my "alarmist" words from back in february and it's amazing how far we have come in 6 short months and how accurate some of us have been on barry and his true intent.
Now be fair, Liberals were at the town halls, too. They have the paychecks to prove it.
[...] Clunkers, clunkers, everywhere. [...]
It wasn't always that way, to the point I was very confused when I saw Texas colored red on 2004 election night. Networks made the not-so-subtle shift in recent years, no doubt due to the obvious communist associations. Lurverly.
Well they are authentically stupid.
Great read Burt! Sure to piss off the liberals, …great!

Lawrence where have you been buddy, how’s that hope and change working out for you. I have a selfish request? Maybe during one these most interesting post you can add a audio link and give us one of those classic accordion solos, man that would be cool.
Hi Burt,
I'm glad you are here, even though I was used to TH.
I'll just be reading your columns in a new location.
God bless you.
I know what your saying pattiann but it's not all that amazing. All you need is a good b.s. detector a solid grounded sense of truth and a love of Country. Then these Bolsheviks are like cellophane. No matter what size, shape or color they may come in. Be Well.

I have been a faithful reader of your columns at Town Hall.
Good to read you here.
I wish someone would ship you to China and your boyfriend too.
Sucka! Drank the kool-aid didn't ya!
Will there be a Government sponsored agency named 'Planned GrandParentHood'?
Does Barack Obama believe that seniors steal billions of dollars out of the federal budget each year just by staying alive?
Will the 'Mission Statement' of 'Planned Grandparent Hood' be "NO GrandParents" left behind?
I appreciate the fact that many of you have followed me from Townhall. Their loss is Big Hollywood's gain…and yours as well.
Regards, Burt Prelutsky
(Wondering why conservative states are "red" instead of "blue", considering red is associated with communism and fiery rhetoric while blue is calm, assured, steady.)
I'll venture Red Blooded American/Blue Blood Elitists
and keep in mind Obama isnt the first African American POTUS, hes the first African-Caucasian American POTUS
Will there be a Government sponsored agency named 'Planned GrandParentHood'?
In fact Mussolini declared with glee of FDR, "He's one of us!"
And vice versa. It was our Constitution and specifically our anti-trust and monopoly laws that stopped FDR. That is why his admin was working on rewriting the Constitution.
Then the war broke out. It obviously wasn't a war against the doctrine of Fascism, but against Expansionism. (and against Japan dropping bombs on us.)
Another Fun Fact: Winston Churchill called Fascism, "the antidote for Communism." Which is partly why anyone who opposes Communism is labeled a Fascist.
I agree with Mr. Prelutsky's "growing disenchantment" with Bill O'Reilly. I don't get it. It's as if he's schmoozing up to this administration. His arguments are falling short when it comes to some of the "goings-on" at the White House. I feel it will be his downfall if he doesn't, to borrow from Mr. O'Reilly- "Stop the spin" and "get with the program." He may at the very least lose his number one cable news show status. Which, no doubt, would be a particularly steep price to pay. ____As for Glenn Beck, he is definitely hitting his stride. I believe because of his no nonsense approach in tackling the very serious issues we're facing today, as well as giving the American people the REAL story about the clowns running the show up on the hill. In truth, that's what it's become- One pathetic, poorly rehearsed, badly written, reality show! Unfortunately, we have the best seats in the house! Time to "change things up" America!" Pass the popcorn!
The great thing about our liberal leaders is that they don't know how to handle success. Instead of slowly and smartly advancing their agenda, they ram their bad ideas thru as quickly as they can as if expecting to be thrown out of office at the next election.
Why are we opposed to social security and medicare? I must have missed another memo.
Right.
Bill Clinton was the first black president.
For several years, the color alternated and was based on which party held the White House; 2008 changed that (Republicans should have been blue), I'm guessing because after 2000 and 2004 the red/blue was fixed in the public's mind, probably somewhat due to the internet and the way it worked for the previous few elections.
Remember Reagan's "sea of blue"?

Howdy Burt,
I see a few familiar names from TH here.
I have yet to find alternate sources for the few other good writers on TH.
Glad to be among good folks.
Burt, may I suggest you dump Savage and listen to Mark Levin instead. You're better than that.
If you like govt housing projects you'll love govt healthcare.
More like "No Grandparents left alive". They'll either be denied medical care because they're too old to be productive any more, or be thrown under a convenient bus.
As a side note, Burt, will you please, PLEASE stop repeating the lie that a child costs $300K to raise! That's over $16K a year! If that number was correct almost no one could afford one child, let alone two or more.
I don't know where that number comes from but it's insane. Children are not that expensive if you raise them well. And by well I mean you don't buy them $200 sweatpants with "Juicy" written on the rear end.
"Push em down the stairs I say."
That's funny. Thanks for the laugh.
Good article Mr. Burt. Savage is denied in the UK and overlooked here to some extent in my opinion because he's a firebrand and speaks the language of the Vox Populi. There's no pussy -footing with him. He says what he means and means what he says. One could perceive that as dangerous depending on what prism one's looking through to me it just sounds like the unvarnished truth as Savage would say. He's been ahead of the curve on alot of things that have brought us to where we are today and he goes after both sides.I agree with all the other Conservative voices you mentioned. I would add Mark Levin, Michelle Malkin and Monica Crowley to that list. I don't know what ax you have to grind with O'Reilly. The worst I can say about him is that he works a little to hard at trying to be fair and balanced. I wish I could say that about ABC CNN CBS MSNBC I can't. I'm personally glad O'Reilly is out there as well as the other afore mentioned Conservative Warriors and that goes for You Too. Always a good solid informative read .We The People appreciate it.
I bet back in 1933, Burt was there wishing someone would ship FDR to China out of bitterness that Hoover was defeated after all that progress he had been making.
The reason most Right Wingers like the Dick Armeys and his minions won’t admit their opposition to Social Security and Medicare in public is because they are all cowards, they prefer the “Kill Grandma” and “Nazi-Hitler” lies as their disingenuous method to participate in political discourse.
Chainsaw (now Kingsman) from Townhall here as well RG. Those here will appreciate your added commentary as Burt shines his trusty 50,000 watt spotlight on those in the shadows.
Obama is a clunker of the first order and I think that even though he has jumped the shark with so many of his actions his latest pronouncement that he is God's partner in matters of life and death is beyond the pale and has to rate as having jumped the blue whale. I was not aware that part of God's work was to perform partial birth abortions and then if the infants lived to kill them but if memory serves me correctly that is precisely the position the new pesudogod has taken.
If we had shipped FDR to China in 1933 we would have been spared 8 years of the depression persuing the failed New Deal policies.
Note: The New Deal wasn't about spending, it was about forming cartels to control and regualte industry and commerce. As well as commodity prices, wages and profits. (you might recognize that by it's formal name, Fascism)
WW2 brought us out of the depression because it forced FDR to abandon those regressive Utopian plans and the economy was ALLOWED TO FUNCTION freely.
FUN FACT OF THE DAY: The term Boondoggle comes from FDR critics who blasted him for spending millions of tax dollars by paying for people to learn how to "boondoggle" which was like arts and crafts. It was the original Cash for Clunkers. Boondoggle then became known as the art of scamming and swindling. Thank you, FDR.
Well they are authentically stupid.
Scratch that, a few are showing signs of intelligence by noticing poll numbers. Guess you are right, barely anything authentic at all.

Dang. Gotta get the glasses checked. I thought it said "Cluckers". Took a couple hundred head of chicken down to the Ford dealer.
and dont call you shirley.. yes I know..
sounds messy
Chickens can't fly and this Cash for Clunkers isn't flying either. The cars are flying the coop but the payments from the gov is nearly an egg. Money the dealers are currently out of isn't chicken scratch. I guess the yolks on us. We should tar and feather the guy that came up with disaster.
LOL!! Ahhhhh, I needed that! That was good! Too funny!
Heh, that's actually the name of my… Wait, how did you know that?

Savage and Wilder are just a glimpse of future Europe. As muslims grow into the dominant political forceSavage and Wilder are just a glimpse of future Europe. As muslims grow into the dominant political force, much of what defines western culture will be rejected. Freedom of speech is already going by the wayside. Things such as dress, music, literature and freedom of religion are certain to follow. All one has to do is look at the other muslim nations in the world. They are not exactly places where liberty is a popular concept.
