A Health Care Plan on Life Support
by Burt PrelutskyBy this time, I’m sure we’ve all heard more than we care to about Professor Henry Gates. Still, I can’t let it go without tossing in my two cents. Admitting he didn’t know the facts of the case didn’t prevent President Obama, allegedly our first post-racial chief executive, from siding with the black professor and admonishing a white Cambridge policeman. Nothing too surprising about that, inasmuch as he appears to be far more concerned with the health and comfort of the Islamic terrorists down in Gitmo than he is with America’s elderly citizens.
I also have a bone to pick with the media’s portrayal of Prof. Gates. The way they kept describing him, you might have thought the guy had cured cancer or invented the microchip. His field happens to be black studies. Even at Harvard, that’s tantamount in academic terms to basket weaving.
My own field of study is liberals. As I see it, the major difference between Prof. Gates and me is that he gets paid a lot of money, gets to eat in the faculty dining room and when he acts like an egotistical jerk and swears at a cop doing his duty, he’s the one who not only gets the apology, but gets the President of the United States to defend his boorish behavior.
The other day, a reader sent me an e-mail in which she stated: “Obama is economically illiterate, 100% politically motivated, a bold-faced liar, thin-skinned and completely incompetent. And I must say that, contrary to the majority of the population, I believe he is inarticulate. I don’t know what it is that others are seeing, but it certainly escapes me.”
In response, I wrote, “Apparently they see the great and powerful Oz, whereas you and I see the mumbling, bumbling bumpkin that Toto exposed behind the curtain.”
The truth is, it’s not just Obama who confounds me. It’s all liberals. I mean, doesn’t it even occur to them that when a conservative points out that Obama, Pelosi, Schumer and Barney Frank, are burying America in trillions of dollars of debt that saying, “Well, Bush left us with half a trillion dollars of debt” isn’t much of a rejoinder?
Something else that baffles me about those on the Left is that even though one of their major bugaboos over the course of the past hundred years has been the monopoly, a single soulless entity that had the power to determine the price of gasoline or the life of a light bulb, they hale monopolies so long as they’re run by the criminally inept bureaucrats in Washington. I mean, who in his right mind would hire the likes of Chris Dodd, Henry Waxman or Barbara Boxer, to run a hardware store, let alone a major car company or the banking industry?
Perhaps even the Democrats are finally reading the writing on the wall. Obama’s poll numbers are dropping like a rock, and a little more than a year from now every congressman and a third of the senators will be up for re-election. There was a reason that Harry Reid announced that Obama’s health plan wouldn’t come up for a vote until after the summer recess. At the risk of being a cockeyed optimist, it’s my hunch that during the recess the Democrats are going to catch so much flak from their constituents that Obama’s health bill will be buried right next to Bill Clinton’s up there on Capitol Hill.
I’m sure that Obama will continue to blame Bush and the Republicans even if every Democrat votes against the damn thing, but the important thing is to keep socialized medicine where it rightfully belongs — in England, Canada and Cuba.
It’s not easy determining which aspect of Obama’s bill is the most vile — the fact that the costs would be astronomical, that health care would get progressively worse or that young illegal aliens would rate higher on the food chain than older American citizens. In fact, considering that the President subscribes to the notion that, instead of a life-saving operation, any old person not holding elective office or named Obama, should just take pain pills for what ails them, you could say that it’s Obama’s final solution for America’s elderly.
I heard Rush Limbaugh say, “This health care plan is the single greatest tool to regulate every aspect of our lives this government could ever have.”
To which my response was, Obama has a great many tools at his disposal, including pork-laden stimulus programs, Cap and Trade and multi-millions earmarked for ACORN and AmeriCorps, but they all look like shovels with which to bury America.
As for his health care plan, calling it a cure for an ailing system is like calling assisted suicide a cure for heart disease.

And let us hope it flatlines…….
"Vile" – best summary of health-care plan I've heard to date.
Good column.
Great article, and DEATH OF A BENEFIT PLAN!!! thank to the BLUE DOGS, and the FEW republicans that helped hinder the deal!!!
But but but…..
Free health care is a right
How can you be so insensitve ?
You need to have a heart.

I feel that the current crop will try again. Look for some stealth bill being passed late at night, or some attachment to a bill that needs to be passed.
I remember when "Mr. Fixit" referred to a P/E ratio as the "Profit/Earnings" ratio – and nobody in the press called him on it. This is the guy who is going to fix the economy. Bush would have been raked over the coals.
Do uyou guys feel as I do – that half the country has gone made drinking the Kool Aid and can't see what the other half sees? Half took the red pill nd half took the blue pill!

Call your own representatives and senators too! Keep calling them.
Tell them to QUIT WORKING on this bill until AFTER the recess, when they've all had a chance to go home and hear from their angry constituents!
i happened to see my doc this week. she said, "health care is NOT a right, it is a commodity. can we do better? certainly. will nationalized health help. no. it will only harm us AND everyone they pretend they are trying to help."
i popped in, had an exam, had a blood test and got out. all within an hour. dear god, let us fight this health care scheme with all we have, or those days are gone….along with all the good docs.
So I'm reading an article about the much praised 'cash for clunkers' program being put on hold because it's broke already. You have to wonder, if they can't run a simple program like that, how are they going to manage health care? This isn't the stellar idea the administration and the media claim it is and people need to sober up and realize that.
If the government can deny treatment then it not a right.
Great article Burt, sure to piss off our liberal friends. Though we have Barry on the ropes we must keep up the pressure …hassle your representatives, regular and often, and remember, if liberals are anything they are consistent, …you know like, “…yes master…I love my messiah Barry…yes master…” they’ll be back with their worn out Marxist horse squeeze. We have to be just as consistent with our devoted opposition to the Barry and his minions on the left, …Volunteers for America – Counter Revolution!
Never count something defeated until it finally is. I remember in 1994 the Assault Weapons ban was all but dead. But then overnight some political promises were made, some wrangling was done, and somehow they got enough Republican votes to get it to the floor for a vote, and it was passed. I woke up the next morning to the news that the bill was passed and would be going to Chancellor Clinton for signing after the committees reconciled the senate and house versions.
I hope something similar occurs with this socialist government entitlement.

I read on NewsBusters yesterday that Gates was described as a "superstar" by some big time libs. Supposedly, they were incredulous about the fact that Crowley didn't know who he (Gates) was. Sorry leftists, the average "Joe Six Pack" isn't interested in your hierarchy of radical political agitators. Someone on NewsBusters wrote. "It's not like this guy (Gates) is Steven Hawking". Exactly – most of us had never heard of Gates before and for good reason. What exactly is he famous for that I would give a damn about?
That is my biggest fear. A stealth bill, or some attachment to another bill.
After this roller coaster ride of a year I've decided that half of this country is stupid and I don't think we can fix them. I propose this, how about those of us with a clue annex the southern half of the U.S. and you have to sign a conservative creed to get in? We will run our half on conservative principals. The rest can occupy the upper half (since they are doing that for the most part anyway) and run their half on Democrats principals. I make a prediction, the southern half will thrive, have a terrific economy, great healthcare, and productive can-do people while the northern half will be floundering and a 3rd world banana republic economy. Anyone else with me?!
What is wrong with the verification? I tried to email this fantastic article to a granddaughter, but it came back every time. There is a space between the 59P and the JW, but it can't be entered that way, and won't accept if the space is omitted.
Send it to yourself first. See what happens.
Ok
I already live here so I won't have to move
We can invite Palin can't we ?
"Obama has a great many tools at his disposal, including pork-laden stimulus programs, Cap and Trade and multi-millions earmarked for ACORN and AmeriCorps, but they all look like shovels with which to bury America. "____Yup. A lot of tools, indeed.____Thanks, Burt!__
She won't come. She loves Alaska too much. Oh she will come out to visit, and maybe, just maybe stay for 8 years, but……….
We'll be the ones with the guns, too. Of course, both halves of the country would need new flags. May I suggest that ours be the old "Don't Tread on Me" flag, and theirs can be a chicken on a yellow field.
I suspect they'll go for half of Consulticide Burt and the GOP will stupidly (that word again) claim victory. This is the time to rally the troops (old folks first) and show all liberals that their game is evil. Obma is just today's queen bee -there always will be others unless we destroy the hive!
" and theirs can be a chicken on a yellow field. "
It will be a muslim green with the crescent moon
Under liberalism, some are more equal than others. Look no farther than {insert favorite liberal establishemt, such as Hollywood, The Congress, POTUS} for a plethora of just such hypocritical behavior.
Liberal *equality* seems to display its ugly face in two major forms:
1. Elitism – equality for the 'little people' as a means of control and power
2. Victimization – "take care of me because I'm too lazy to succeed on my own merits"
The Liberal Church of Equality is the most effective destroyer of altruism, charity, virtue, and true compassion that I can think of. If your job is to enslave and damn (i.e. stop all progress of) humanity, evil masquerading as good is the best tool ever devised.

Burt, I'd say while those are just as horrible plans as noted.. there is NOTHING that can force control on our lives moreso than this heatlh-care plan…
you play the wrong sport (you know one where someone wins and someone loses),and get hurt? oops.. sorry you're outta luck
You drive the wrong car? You're more likely to get hurt in accident.. Whoops.. sorry, not paying for your injuries..
You eat the wrong foods? Sorry, too much MSG, not covered anymore!
Rush is dead on right on that one… this is the most dangerous bill to ever even be considered (and I remember making the same arguments, when UHC was HIllary's 'pet project' while she was First Lady).
Good article, but I have one small correction:
They don't have "socialized medicine" in Cuba. The only time Cubans get any health care at all is when a Christian missions team from the U.S. smuggles a box of band-aids and Tylenol through customs.
Freaking Workers' Paradise.
Yes, I suspect this as well. It seemed Obeyme rolled over too easily – to flip from "WE MUST AND WILL PASS THIS IMMEDIATELY" to "Oh, I think we'll get around to it in a few months" taxes my credulity.
"Even at Harvard, that’s tantamount in academic terms to basket weaving. "
There's NO comparison. Basket weaving takes skill, and when you're through, it's worth something.
Nice article! thanks
obamarama – another one bites the dust – bump bump.
now to stop the rest of the fiascos over the next 3 years !!!!!
I think America is waking up, but then I'm just known as "Pollyanna" where I'm from. Considering the increase in sales of books and the soaring ratings of those shows that are either neutral or slant conservative and Obama's sagging poll numbers, I think the half that drank the Kool-aid are coming out of the fog and seeing the light. Maybe they've found the antidote and it's called TRUTH!
Ha! I hear ya! Pretty funny!
You know, if some white guy was a professor of African American studies, now THAT would be remarkable. Basket weaving….good one! "I don't know what to do with my life so….I'm going to study myself!" Now that is progress!
Pull the plug.. directives from a living will…the people.
There are times when I'm glad my family decided to dodge the issue of being First Nation "nationals". They decided to pass for white hoping for a better life and got it. Had they not, I would be receiving medical care from a similarly inept system. I did grow up going to Kaiser. In many ways, just as bad.
Well, at least the ladies were nice…
absolutely zero- which is what he and all the other race baiters are- 000000000000 x 10 tto the 23rd power= ZERO
Ponder this – in three years training in a VA I never once saw or heard of a former VA physician (of any age) getting his own treatment there (for those with military backgrounds, of course). Think they know something about medicine and quality?
I have heard that there is some "Cap N Trade" crap affixed to the health care bills. These dems are slimy as slugs.
Obama travels all over the world apologizing to this enemy nation and that enemy nation for our country's perceived misdeeds. Congress passes a resolution apologizing for slavery. But somehow no one can muster an apology to Mrs Whelan or Officer Crowley for being wrongly and unfairly accused of racism?!?!
I hate this administration and all of the liberal fools we must suffer.
LOL! "I'm going to study myself"!
I hope the Republicans use August to figure out how to effectively communicate their ideas on how to create real health care reform… even if it means biting the hand that feeds them. When they get back into session they can flood the media with good ideas (singular, well thought out, with a road map leading to the next step and beyond). Simply laid out. Within our means. The way Republicans used to be. If not, they are the turds everyone thought they were when they booted their bony rumps back home. There will be energy if the base sees genuine passion for the known will of their constituents.
EVERY single day I find myself saying "If Bush said/did that…" Sometimes several times a day.
What's wrong with this health care bill is the same thing that's wrong with every other bill the left tries to force feed us. Every one of them is "comprehensive" which is just another way of saying it's so excessively large they can camouflage their agenda items in the folds. This also explains why they push so hard to get them passed before anyone has been given the time to properly scrutinize it in detail. Meanwhile at every turn we hear one of our "leaders" telling us if we don't pass it NOW there will be calamity and mayhem, but when they are called out on the extreme urgency they claim "you have to set deadlines or nothing gets done". Who do they think they are kidding, really?
All this healthcare reform is doing is catering to those libs and slackers who just love a government handout.
There are a few people who could use it (a VERY select few), but if welfare (another government-run program) is any indication, this is going to be exploited and the general quality of care will drop. Because when that government moolah well runs dry, your life becomes a raffle at these hospitals.

Yeah that's only slightly more narcissistic than my drama degree.
"no man's life, liberty or property is safe when the legislature is in session"
Can't remember who said that.
Biblical scholars have now agreed on a new interpretation of the Book of Revelation, where the "Mark of the Beast" required to receive any goods or services is actually membership in the Democratic Party.
Can we all move to Alaska then? I happen to like the cold.
Every true conservative at least once in their life. Libertarians say it at least twice.
So that is how the South will rise again?
Alright, I am in. But when the war breaks out, can we reclaim Pennsylvania as one of the first? There are a lot of decent people here who need rescuing. Razing Harrisburg would be a bonus but I can let it slide for the greater good.
And they just decided to pump another 2B into it. Idiots!!!!
Those wimpy liberals in the northern half of the country won't be able to resist our superior firepower, and, after the dust settles and the relative merits of our separate economies becomes clear, our economic might. "Can we reclaim Pennsylvania?" WE CAN TAKE BACK WHATEVER WE DARN WELL PLEASE!
Of course he would not get the great care he does now! Why else do you think that NONE of the people pushing this BS plan onto the rest of us are going to be subjected to it themselves??? They know it will stink! They know that old people will be "encouraged" to take a palliative and die rather than get care and have their lives made better and be prolonged.
Oh, I hate, hate, HATE this evil administration and these evil legislators. May God punish them.
Oh, SNAP.
Wait until they kill a few hundred people with the H1N1 flu vaccine! Remember swine flu? Think we can put national health care to bed then?!
There is enough room, but it gets too cold for me. I prefer to take a leak outside without worrying about instant icicles. I am not that great with an ice pick.
granted.. and it takes time to undo the layers one wears in the winter, just to get to the equipment.
You know in France and Germany, for example, middle and upper class folks pay for a higher level of care through insurance payments of $500-1200 a month per family. Why is this never reported? Their basic care is for checkups, babies being born, etc.
On another note, my facebook page has a lot of political threads every day. One lib-in-law posted about Glenn beck et.al. being afraid of Obama, and that's why they take him on. I said not afraid, appalled. Reply: Appalled by what? (Hint, because he's black?).. No because his policies are wrong! People are sheeple.
I hate to be the proverbial wet blanket but SOME form of Obamacare IS going to be passed. The simple math is that the Democrats have the votes in Congress. "Blue Dogs" notwithstanding, the Democrats have internal party discipline that the SS would have admired. They are hell-bent on this because you give people things they vote for you. We can make all the policy arguments we want about economic impact, job loss and sinkhole national debt but most people out there are only hearing "free." Obama really doesn't care what the final package looks like because it's only a transitional step. Once some sort of a national health plan is in place it can then be incrementally expanded and annex ever-increasing secitons of American medicine. The people behind this are thinking long-term and they will take half a loaf now because they can get the rest later.

Samuel Clemens?
Under the Obamacare health care plan, assisted suicide IS the cure for heart disease.
My appreciation of the hardships the settlers endured grows yet again. How did they manage to tame the great wilderness without zippers?
HA!
So true. It has the same aroma as the Omnibus Bill each side loves to pass each year. Lazy pigs… with OUR money. That seems to escape notice. We are being bribed with our own money. I would admire the genius if it were not so painful.
You should check out 912 project: http://the912project.us/
It's all good.
Obama is the anointed head of the Church of Equality, which is becoming the official state religion.
"granted.. and it takes time to undo the layers one wears in the winter, just to get to the equipment. "
With the cold factor on our equipment and more inches of layered clothes it is a dexterity test
and sometimes impossible
LOL
We can remind them how they hate war and tell them to go home like the pansies that they are
When they sign up on Hussein Obama's side they are forever Submissive
Literally and figuratively
LOL
Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state lives at the expense of everyone.

It is impossible to introduce into society a greater change and a greater evil than this: the conversion of the law into an instrument of plunder.
He's the one!
Our elected officials would never do that.
Rest your heart
You can trust the elected law makers with your life

I'm guessing they learned to hold in in.. ALOT
almost like being on one of those Japanese gameshows.
I went to the V.A. today, was told to be there anytime between 8:00 AM & 3:00 PM Arrived at 10:00 AM sign on door said "not available until 12:00 PM." Oh well, right? Come back at 12:00 PM sharp, sign on door says "out to lunch" come back at 1:00 PM, I did. Waited until 1:20 Greeted by two nice ladies who told me I did not have the right paperwork, from another VA twenty miles away, who should have given to me last week. They called the other VA. They said, the lady they needed to talk to was off today and no one else had time to look for it. Dear Lord, I can't wait for Government health care to pass, cause I know it will get better.
Under a single payer system, i wonder if Chris Dodd would get such great care for his prostate cancer at his age. Would it be cost effective?
I thought it was Mark Twain.
"Assisted" being they will throw you off a cliff. Got to watch the allocation of resources for those judged terminal. However, as a bright spot, they will allow you to choose the cliff. You pay for your own transportation there, however.
LOL.. good one!
From my standpoint, No Rationing Is Required.
In case you are a doctor, and your pay is dependent upon your patient's outcome, you will more likely strive to prescribe the best medicine for your patient, let alone avoiding unnecessary cares, and hope your patient will feel better as promptly as possible.
Studies have documented that nearly one half of physician care in the United States is not based on best practices and that at least 98,000 Americans die of a 'medical error' each year.
Under the new health care program, practitioners are expected to eagerly and 'voluntarily' implement the 'recommendations' to work best for them, I think.
Nowadays, we can't imagine the society without IT SYSTEM, just to think of the bank that lacks it, presumably what we should fear most would be the medical institutes without the essential program. I think measurable savings in the transformative health program might be reached.
Thank So Much !
To be serious for a moment, I'm reminded how in the previous Civil War both sides thought the other side were wimps and everyone would be home by Christmas. The Blue are willing to fight and kill for their version of America. I'm a Red supporter, but it tain't as easy as some people think.
