Indicting the Usual Suspects
by Burt PrelutskyNobody has to tell me things are going from bad to worse in America. The question that preys on my mind is when it was that we began our descent. Some would say it started when Jimmy Carter turned his back on the Shah of Iran, thus providing an impetus for latter-day Islamic terrorism. Others might say it was the first time Bill Clinton dropped his pants in the Oval Office, while still others might contend it began when the Supreme Court determined that the Pursuit of Happiness was a rationale for 80 million abortions on demand.
For all I know, things might have begun sliding the very first time some slack-jawed teenager struck a pose and struck a chord on an imaginary guitar. There was a time, after all, when most American kids were actually given music lessons and learned how to play an actual instrument, and even saved up their allowance to buy sheet music.
Whenever the slide began, in the months since Obama was crowned, we’ve slid faster and further than I would have dreamed possible. Obama keeps huffing and puffing and the federal government just keeps expanding like a gigantic balloon. It’s only a matter of time until it blows up in all our faces.
Not in my wildest nightmares would I have imagined that an American president would travel to countries we’ve bled and died to defend, and apologize for our arrogance. Neither would I have ever expected that the same man who casually dismissed our special relationship with England would curtsy to a Saudi prince; refer to a blood-thirsty Muslim cleric, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the Supreme Leader; and butter up a Russian tyrant who cut his eye teeth working for the barbaric KGB.
After all that, I wasn’t the least bit surprised when Obama joined Hugo Chavez and the Castro brothers in demanding that Honduras allow dictator-wannabe Manuel Zelaya back in the country to resume his assault on democracy.
Obama’s groupies in and out of the media used to cry “Foul!” during the campaign whenever people would question the character of a man whose intimate circle included a corrupt Chicago lobbyist, an unrepentant domestic terrorist, a racist minister and a spouse who announced that America was a mean country. It seems that in the past several months, his circle has grown in size, but unfortunately not in character.
The President’s good friend, Al Gore, who stands to clean up, thanks to the Cap and Trade bill, has long campaigned for the greening of America. How long will it take people to wake up to the fact that his major concern is the greening of Al Gore? For good measure, the greedy oaf recently compared the battle over global warming to the war against the Nazis. And, to think, some folks thought PETA was over the top when they compared a chicken farm to Auschwitz.
Speaking of Nazis and Auschwitz reminds me that I wish Israel, a haven for many of those who survived the concentration camps, would stop referring to portions of their country as settlements. Israel was attacked by its Arab enemies, fought back and won. Part of what the Israelis won was turf. It’s how just about every country on earth wound up having its present dimensions. Referring to the land as settlements makes it sound like they’re only borrowing it until the rightful owners come by and pick it up. You might as well call California, Texas and Arizona settlements. Well, come to think of it, I guess La Raza does.
As hard as it is to accept, there’s no getting around the fact that Al Franken is a U.S. Senator. On the upside, just as people used to say that any boy could grow up to be president, now people can say that any comedian who’s smug, obnoxious and not the least bit funny, can grow up to be a senator. That being the case, I guess it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine that Sen. Franken might one day be joined by the likes of Bill Maher and David Letterman.
It is appropriate, though, that Franken represents Minnesota. Its state bird, after all, is the loon.
Before signing off, I found myself wondering the other day why it is, now that Afghanistan is Obama’s war, I don’t hear the Democrats or their lap dogs in the media referring to it as a quagmire, pointing out that the Taliban didn’t attack us on 9/11, and demanding that President Obama announce his exit strategy?

Yes, Burt, you have pretty much summed up the sad state of affairs we now find ourselves in. Loon, indeed! Notice how he is getting plenty of press already?
I firmly believe the Ozombies are purposely trying to trash our economy. This would make many of us dependant on the government for support. Once they have the majority of us dependant on the gov, the dems will have a life time of support, more importantly power. This is exactly what fdr did – and it worked for decades. The worlds largest ponzi scheme (the SS) has made dependance on the goverment a permanent thing. It has also brought this country close to being bankrupt. ObamaCare will put us over the edge into permanent mediocracy among nations. WWRD

I don't even have to read you post to know that I will never agree with you about anything ever. You are r@c!st, h0m0ph0bic, gun cl!nging, b!ble thump!ing, Ant!-CNN, Straight-up, carbon spewing, leather wearing, car driving, electricity using, Hallibuton, neo-con, !sr@elite, funny clothes wearing, mouthbreathing, knuckle dragging, war mongering, cut off short wearing, gun-rack, crooked parking, tax paying, chump, Croc butter, A clockwork Orange, speed eating, flag waving, oh wait that was that guy from yesterday.
So what? you must be one too sine you post here.
Speaking of Franken, I wouldn't mind converting Minnesota to 'settlement' status and its rightful owners (whoever they may be) taking it off our hands.
Franken, even when he was partnered with Tom Davis, was never that funny.
In the words of the late Pat Paulson, "picky, picky, picky!"
Hey–if "The Love Boat's" Gopher can be in Congress, why not Franken?
Gopher was at least kind of funny!
Ha Ha guys fess up! Which one of you was this?
I appreciate the effort but you forgot, Lynyrd Skynyrd listening and so dumb we can't fart and chew gum at the same time.
nice try but it is hard to fake it well.
Hell maybe Obama can hire a few new CZAR's.. like a media relations czar or public affairs czar….I think that the administration, is deliberately running this country into the ground…. it started with Pelosi, Boxer and Fenstein from the left coast and then the PROGRESSIVE's really shook things up getting Obama elected….. and thus the domino theory…. Franken and yeah Gopher… where elected….. damn, voters in this country voting for the popular guy!!!! lol….
Maybe when we pinpoint the start of the decline of the country, we can also note when language changed to the point where we're told that the definition of "hate" is "having a difference of opinion from a liberal," "racism" means "disagreeing with something Al Sharpton says," (also, "Objecting to Obama's policies,") and "choice" means "abortion on demand."
The MSM used to post a daily count of how many soldiers have died in the Iraq and Afghan wars, but now since the Won is in office and responsible for the casualties, any death is briefly mentioned and then forgotten.
Lakota Sioux (rightful owners, I mean.)
Burt,
Who are those guys in that picture hiding from and why???
I blame it Doonesbury! That was not funny and they kept pushing it on us!
Great post, Burt!
Actually, it sounds like the sky is falling. Having lived to Carter, I certainly hope this replay is not too much for us. I wonder.
Good. Let them deal with Franken.
Thanks for the very detailed tour d' horizon. During the last six months Mr. Obama has grabbed more executive power (with nary a peep from the Left) than any other Chief Executive since Wolrd War II. His shameless kow-towing to genuine dictators, intended to "restore America's reputation", has simply inspired contempt. Cap-and-trade is poised to destroy an already-fragile economy made even more britttle by a "stimulus" that is intended to do nothing but reward key Democratic interest groups. Has anyone thought to ask whether all of this is being done simply because Mr. Obama doesn't like us very much? Mr. Obama is the firs President we have ever had who genuninely seems to believe that the job and the citizenry he leads (except for key elites) are beneath him. He is a man whose life has been lived in a series of hermetically sealed environments (the Ivy League, South Side Chicago racial politics, the salons of the entertainment community) and has been "adored" for all his adult life. Given this why should we expect him to have the interests of the rest of us at heart?
I think the descent began when television became the mainstream medium for political discourse. From that point on, image became more important than substance. Sound bites became more important than debate. Hair became more important than brains. The type of candidate that is actually left over in the filter paper, is the only one willing to put up with the brutal scrutiny of hit and run tabloid journalism. The only people willing to do that, are pathological narcissists, totally wrapped in their own thirst for power.

That sir, is a very insightful comment! Nicely put.
I have a libertarian friend who insists America has been going down hill since Lincoln neutered the US Constitution fighting the Civil War. Considering the issue of ending slavery, I tend to ignore, if not out right ridicule his position.
But if not Lincoln, the decline most definitely started either with or before Tedd Roosevelt and the progressive movement. That's when government went from defending the rights of the individual to the nanny state mentality.
Essentially there are way too many people in America who believe not only do they have the right to make people live their lives in ways they approve of, it's their solemn duty.
The reason why MSN did that was to make Bush and his administration look bad…. chalk it up to liberal BS
HA! Doonsbury is definitely at fault. That Hack-neyed, conspiracy-theorist, left wing strip has destroyed this country.
I think the actual original caption was the president being quoted "ah geez Joe, what did you have for lunch anyway?"
UH, unless I miss my guess the Lakota actually support Al, Having been converted to govt. wards years ago

Well said Insolublog.. that is one that I definitely agree with you on… or as Scott Adams once wrote… "we'll either vote for the taller candidate or the one with the better hair"
Well they are dying for Obama. Thus, honorable and to be emulated.
You left off NASCAR watching too Bomb..

"For good measure, the greedy oaf recently compared the battle over global warming to the war against the Nazis."
Thank God Al Gore isn't prone to hyperbole or wild-eyed statements much.
Everything you say is true. In addition, Obama has stated that he intends to see utility costs skyrocket and would like to see gas prices rise at the pump. We can conclude that he understands the impact of his policies. So why is he so willing to punish average Americans? Just from a standpoint of personal vested interest in his position does he not understand how this will effect his re-election chances? I'm trying to figure out the man's motivation, but I keep seeing a disconnect between his stated policies and the logical outcomes. Can the man be this truly malicious and also so divorced from reality? If so, that would make him pathologically crazy. He's not just some sort of weird ideologue, he's clinically insane. Welcome to Rome during the reign of Nero.
Burt, I think your key idea is " It’s only a matter of time until it blows up in all our faces" and I could not agree with you more. Those most hurt by the coming explosion though are going to be the loons who support Obama and all he stands for….though in Obama's case it is more that he stands against the ideals that have made this country great. History has a way of swinging in pendulum fashion and while things are dismal in America at the moment, I do believe they will reach a nadir and then improve. Hopefully the bottom is just about here.
Senator Bill Maher, the single most disturbing image that's ever entered my head. He could meet up with Franken and Letterman forming the Congressional Douche Caucus.

I would say the two asses in the photo are hiding their faces in shame but then that is likely to be a foreign emotion to them.
I think they're wiping off the remnants of the MSM's reaction to their electoral victory. I know that's sick but it's as clean as I could make it.
You forgot "WIfe Beater" wearing….
"referring to it as a quagmire, pointing out that the Taliban didnt attack us on 9/11, and demanding that President Obama announce his exit strategy?"
Over all Excellent Article, but lets face it, Iraq was a bum move based on Bum Intelligence,(In the Words of Mike Huckabee, you break it, you buy it) whereas in Afghanistan we are facing our priority enemy at his heart. At best, we are fighting a lackluster scion of the Jihadist Movement in Iraq, whereas in Afghanistan, we actually are fighting against the Terrorist arm of Radical Islam directly. Calling the Democrats Hypocrites just doesn't fly in this case because the implications and nature of the war in Afghanistan are so drastically different from the War in Iraq. That Said, we dont need to bring up Afghanistan, we've got Obama.
And his wife Jane Pauley…and those morning shows in general…ha-ha!
"The type of candidate that is actually left over in the filter paper, is the only one willing to put up with the brutal scrutiny of hit and run tabloid journalism."
Does that include Reagan? Look, its a sure thing that a whole lot of stupid shit has come down the pike as a result of Television, but saying that this incredible revolution in the Entertainment sector is responsible for the Decline of America is like Saying Books are responsible for the Fall of the Roman Empire.
Besides, those "Pathological Narcissists" are all there has been since the dawn of history and you better get used to it. Every Single Politician from Sarah Palin to Barack Obama falls into that category.
[...] Watching the right bitch-fest grow the elephantine proportions (appropriately enough) is starting to test my endurance. What the picture doesn't show you is off to the left of the frame is the door to the women's restroom. Evidently the rumors about Speaker Pelosi's stuff not stinking are false.
Well Obama, I think may have made a great decision to finally quell the situation in Afghanistan… I actually think he made the right decision there… IMHO, he made the wrong move pulling out of Iraq and now being pressed by iran and N. Korea.. we are in a sorry state of affairs… it will only get worse when the LEFT figures out he made a BAD DECISION on the economy…. and he will try and blame Geitner and the rest….. this next 6 months will be the DISASTER OF THE DEMOCRATES and he will spend the next 3 years being a lame duck president…. hopefully the American people will wise up and see that the "Change we can Believe in" was actually for the worse!
I agree with your sentiment, but we havn't pulled out of Iraq…The War in the Middle East seem to be going okay as long as Obama doesn't screw it up.

He will have made the right decision regarding Afghanistan if he actually sticks it out and does not let the Left shape his policy on the war there. Otherwise, I hope you are spot on about him being a lame duck for the last three years of his presidency. I have to admit I would prefer some means of removing him from office before his term is up. I do not think the Veep could possibly be as bad for this country as the imposter in chief is.
When confronted with such blunt and Blatent Fake or Real Hatred all I can say is…Nice.
Ahh Biden, a Relic from the Days when we didnt have to Fear the Very Name of Democrat. Guess Im Fear Mongering again (And I'm from Delaware)
I miss Jimmy Carter.

Or arms trading.
"Not in my wildest nightmares would I have imagined that an American president would travel to countries we’ve bled and died to defend, and apologize for our arrogance."
Maybe he should have made it all better by laying a wreath at Bitburg.
What? You can only come up with twenty-six? You're slipping bud.
I actually meant pulling out of the major cities….. not pulling out completely
Do you hold the same disdain for GW Bush when he held hands with, danced, and then ultimately kissed the Saudi prince on the lips? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRhDzpJV2TM Do you think there was honor in America supporting right-wing dictators like Saddam Hussein, Shah of Iran, or Pinochet or right-wing terrorists and dictatorships throughout Central America?
amateur hour has now entered critical phase…
When the public decided to entrust career bureaucrats and naive academics with the future of our country they have to expect these results. No understanding of economics, history, or even social constructs equals a pathway to disaster- hell in a handbasket, as they say.
So, now we have become what we have begat. Pray that some responsibility returns before this lot does far more damage than they have already inflicted- in 200 days…
this is Jimmy Carter with a tan…

Well played
I don't even have to read you post to know that I will never agree with you about anything ever.
This sounds like a left winger. Make an opinion without reading the statement.
And lets not forget about Sonny Bono.
"Law Enforcement" enables this.
Gopher didn't run Air America burning into the ground, and he wouldn't have used its failure to prop up the argument that "far-right talk radio dominates the airwaves" and must be balanced by active regulation or however the liberals couch it these days.__Gopher wasn't a nasty guy who stole the election, either.
Caroline Kennedy ALMOST made it. (Whew- close one!)
Communists love their tsars, don't they?
Just jump in. It relieves the frustration. At least until the next blog.
Why is no one in the MSM talking about how difficult it's going to be waging war against Islamo-nuts in Afghanistan? The RUSSIANS had their "Vietnam" there, and granted, we were helping the Taliban out against Russia, but I think the REAL deciding factor was the terrian and the locals' knowledge of it. None of that has changed since the Russians packed it in and left. In fact, there are likely to be MORE insurgents, more training camps and better equipment.
Well, I want better. You go ahead and keep accepting crap, though. Hope that works out for you.
True….. very true!!!!
Style over substance IS a big problem. Blame the educational system that fails to teach our young critical thinking skills and civics also.
Being that a LIBERAL is in office, they will not make them look bad….. they will gloss it over with another so called REPUBLICAN pin cushin to work over… it is simple, they are in the tank and happy with ANYTHING the Messiah does or plans to do!
But isn't it amazing that Critical thinking skills increase when taxes increase?
I do hope you appreciate the difference between "our bastards" and our enemies?
It's not a far leap to "Abortion on Command."
Actually it does. We got lucky with Reagan. We got someone who had a moral compass, and telegenic prescience. The point of the comment was, the image has become the priority.

There you go, it's quite simple. Now it all makes sense, doesn't it?
True. Way too true.

The descent began with the so-called Greatest Generation and the baby boom. I do not take away from their sacrifice and accomplishments in WWII, but they then came home and hatched the most spoiled and narcissistic bunch of brats the world has ever seen. I can not even blame them much for that. After all, they were over compensating for having come of age through the depression themselves. What they did though was indulge and ruin their children who are now, in turn, ruining our country.
Please don't get me wrong. Not every member of the baby boomer generation is horrible, but enough are that people of my generation can't wait to put them back in diapers and nursing care.
while part of it was to convince everyone that "Bush = Bad"… you have to remember, conservatives were in favor of going into Afghanistan and Iraq while Liberals mantra was "Afghanistan "okay", Iraq "bad'… (I never understood the difference.
Note that the only story they ever pushed out about Afghanistan was the Pat TIllman story and that was really it. SO in this case, they (the media) is pushing the on-going meme "Afghanistan okay to fight", and now they can push that story instead of "Iraq bad to fight in".
"Not every member of the baby boomer generation is horrible, but enough are that people of my generation can't wait to put them back in diapers and nursing care."
Great Line.
…Funnier than Al Franken! Al is as funny as a Sunday School teacher with Tourette's Syndrome.
…don't know about that! The Bolsheviks took the last czar they had – Nicholas II – and executed him and his entire family in some little town called Ekaterinaburg, then dumped their remains down an abandoned mineshaft.
I'll bet her stuff smells like a pirate's socks. Any takers?
Never in my lifetime did I think I would see members of Congress allow and, indeed, countenance the expansion of un-checked Presidential power and blatant disregard of Constitutional checks and balances because of allegiance to party instead of country.
Jimmy may have been (be) misguided, but I never once wondered if he wanted to destroy the country! That says a lot about our current "chosen one"!
Touche!
If Obama goes to far then we have a right as Americans to take our country back. Who's gonna stop us? Liberals? I doubt it. Liberals are a bunch of wimps.
Dude…he will never blame another libtard…he will blame Bush
You don't know the half of it.
You don't know the half of it.
Man, talking about going into the vault for that one! It sure brought back memories though. It was one of the earliest times I remember realizing that the media would do anything, and I mean ANYTHING, to discredit a Republican President.
One gets the feeling that Generation X is gearing up for one hell of a revenge.
I'm starting to feel that I'm getting a different attitude. I used to feel disgust with the unhappy extremists on the right, now I feel pity.
Ah, it's okay. We already pity you.
Yes to all those descriptions..at least the thought police have not infiltrated
Pity? with what you party has grown into… that is hilarious……what a farce!!!!
if we could get him REMOVED oooo' what a day that would be.. almost like VE day or VJ day!!! it will be V-OBAMA day!!!
Janeane, you know you are not supposed to leave the facility when you are PMS ing!
but.. but.. that's historically accurate. How dare you be historically accurate!
the difference being, The "Christian" Right tries to go through legit political methods to have the legal landscape match their positions (- and another thing, how does that differ from any other voter anywhere? -) The liberals are skipping straight to fiat – through activist judges changing what words means and back door taxation to control choices. Even when Reagan was in office the Right didn't get to just change things at whim – you know like Zeyala in Honduras.
The Czech President called the "green" movement the new communism. ( http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/may/30/c... )I think he was right, like Jonah Goldberg was about the happy faced Fascism headed our way.
As they used to say about the Communists and Socialists, "The future is sure; it's the past that keeps changing!" I'm surprised that the Obama administration hasn't set up a "Ministry of Truth"-type cabinet post.
No need to do that. He has the MSM and Congress for re-writing history and truth.
In a sane world, you would be bumped off as a warning to the others.
Just one of many from the original Gaffe-O-Matic -but hey, "Facts are stupid things.".
Well, I would kind of agree with your friend, in the sense that I think that is when the Federal Gov't started poking its nose into the States a bit more. Of course, with slavery it was for good reason, IMHO. I think it was such a stain and such an affront to humanity and human rights that it had to be done at the Federal level otherwise, it might have dragged on even longer.
However, with that said, I think it did open up the gate just a bit and I think it went downhill after that. Because they started thinking of all kinds of ways to stick their noses in places where they didn't belong rather than on focusing on the powers they did have. They meaning the Fed'l Gov't.
After reading Jonah Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism" I am also of the mind that the Industrial Revolution going on in the latter half of the 18th century also influenced people to go "progressive" or "Marxist". I think the fast changes going on – rural to urban; poverty in the urban centers; "robber barons" and big corporations – was very scary for people all over the world and enough thinkers started questioning capitalism, and came up with socialism and fascism and those ideas have been at war ever since. Unfortunately, the socialist/fascists have gained the upper hand because we had one "crisis" after another – WWI, Depression, WWII, etc. etc. etc. And they used it all to their advantage. And they are kind of winning at this point.
Which is why we have to start arguing from a "Constitutional" point of view. Those principles are not outdated in any way shape or form. Sure, change comes more slowly when certain crises occur, and certainly there will be some crises that might need to be dealt with more swiftly than a free-market or a free society can usually handle. But for the most part I would say that 99% of crises can be dealt with using the principles laid out in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other papers of the time.
We have to stop being afraid of freedom and responsibility.
If there is one thing I learned and that AJ Simkatu has not, is that most conservatives, although they may be way more socially conservative than I'll ever be, still at least argue from the "individual personal responsibility" POV, including on issues like abortion. It's less about trying to CONTROL you and more about trying to get people to wake up and start taking personal responsibility for their lives. If you have sex at a young age, unmarried and without protection, you will very likely get pregnant. Your CHOICE is clear from the get go – at least use birth control, don't be promiscuous even if you don't necessarily believe in waiting until marriage, and if you are too young, for Heaven's sake WAIT at least until you are much older or at least married. Frankly, I think more than a majority of Americans would agree with that idea.
blah blah blah no facts blah blah ad hominem attacks blah blah bleet bleet bleet

Baby boomers of which I am a member are going to be the end of the USA. As was stated up-thread spoiled, what’s in it for me, brats. The Woodstock nation is all grown up and stinking up the place. God help us!

Lord knows none of you liberal pansies would ever get off of your pulpit and actually risk your life for something greater than your next free handout. Have you ever even left the U.S. borders to see how lucky you are to be an American?!? It's incredibly easy to stand on the sidelines and spew your uninformed, immature, irrational, socialist vitriol when you've thrived within the U.S.'s "utopian bubble" of safety your entire life.
Lastly, we're not racists for not having voted for this fraud of a leader named Obama. We'd just much rather have an informed, rational, natural-born American to be our first African-American president…namely Thomas Sowell (let me guess, you ignorant libtard…you've never even heard of the guy, have you?), Colin Powell or Condeleeza Rice. But I know, I know…I'm just another racist, baby-killing war monger.

You seem to miss the point. Mr. Obama has been billed, packaged and delivered to us as a man of almost superhuman fairness and humanity. I believe that one of his major campaign themes was that he was not going to practice "politics as usual." Presumably this was intended to apply to international politics as well. One would expect that some of his concern for humanity might be expressed as equal condemnation for both the militaristic and Marxist model of dictatorship. This has obvioiusly not proven the case. His preference for the "strong-man" type leaders in South America and his pusillanimous response to the Iran election protests show him as very comfortable with dictatorhip and very hostile to democracy. In his view the "Leader for Life" is an acceptable concept as long as such a strongman comes clothed in socialistic pieties.
As a Marine w/ 2 combat tours (Iraq '03 & Afghanistan '04), I couldn't agree more. Apparently Michael Jackson's death, skin diseases, drug addictions, custody battles, infections, money issues, etc. – 2 to 3 weeks after he passed away – is still more important to the MSM and liberal idiots than my fellow Marines kicking off the largest single operation since the invasion of Afghanistan in '01…not to mention the many that have just been killed in action. My unit and I (1st Bn, 6th Marines) operated in the 3 provinces they are currently in (Kandahar, Oruzgan, and Helmand) from May thru August '04 and captured 131 Al Qaeda and Taliban…and killed about twice that many. Thus, when I tell you that what they are currently attempting to do is no easy task, I truly mean it and speak from firsthand experience. So, why can't I find any real coverage anywhere other than Fox News (and various military-centric news outlets)?!?!?

I'm a Christian of the Catholic persuasion, and I've read the Gospels, and I have yet to see one statement by Jesus that instructs his followers to use the power of government to coerce individuals into following his teachings.
Sounds to me like you're of the libertarian persuasion too. The easiest way I can describe how I view libertarianism is this: You leave me alone and let me live my life the way I want, and in return, I agree to leave you alone and let you live your life as you want. No violence, no coercion, no intimidation, just peace. If I don't agree with what you want, then I shut up and leave you alone. To me, that sounds like as close to utopia as humanity could hope to get.
If you haven't seen Reason magazine's web site http://www.reason.com/ yet, I highly recommend it. I subscribe to their magazine, and I can barely put it down once it shows up in my mail box. Article after article on how government intervention creates nothing but havoc, and the wonderful things that happen every day when people are left alone to use the freedom that God gave them.
"We have to stop being afraid of freedom and responsibility."
Bingo.
It would be an easier battle if the public education system, academia, and pop culture weren't in the business of telling people the world owes them a living.

From a constitutional stand point, Lincoln really did a number on the country and government. There is nothing in the constitution that allows the federal government to prevent a state from leaving the union. Since the constitution specifically states the government is prohibited from any action not specifically granted (We The People hold rights, not government), Lincoln had no constitutional authority for the Civil War.
As I said before, slavery really complicates the legal and constitutional issues. I agree, freedom was more important.
There probably wouldn't have been a Civil Wa either, if the Confederacy weren't so sure they'd win so they fired on Fort Sumter. Of course the North was just as sure they'd win. Really strange. I've been studying the Civil War for over 20 years (I have relatives who fought in it, so it's part of genealogy for me). The best reason I can come up with for why it was fought was simply, the equivalency of a huge bar room brawl that got way out of hand. By the time both sides realized just what was going on, it was too late to back out. They had to go through with it.
She may be Republican but that does not make her conservative.
The fact I have family in Minnesota and the people I know from there generally despise Al Franken seemed to be lost on the Dems who not only forced him down their throats but made sure he won by stealing votes. And as far as voting third party to show the GOP a thing or two? Hows about get involved in the primarys so your not holding your nose in the general election or looking to a third party candidate who couldn't win even if his name was Jesus and his last name was Christ and his title was Son of God.

Well, as I said in another post I think on this article – I think the Industrial Revolution and all its massive changes in culture and the growing economy, really freaked people out and I think that's why we get socialism and fascism and progressivism. It's an escape from freedom because all of the responsibilities seemed too much. It FELT like the whole thing would explode and that we would be like Czarist Russia or France before the Revolution – only very rich and very poor and nothing in between.
People panicked. But smarter people used that panic to gain power. I think Jonah Goldberg points out the similarities between the French Revolution and progressivism in his book – it's like all we are getting is a different form of a monarchy – and the dvine right of kings and queens. Except the kings and queens are leftist elitist ready to tell us what to do and how to do it.
I agree with you. I was also raised Catholic, although I am now more of an agnostic. And I laugh when liberals use quotes from Jesus to prove that the gov't should be redistributing wealth. Although I haven't read the Gospels as extensively as you have, in my past perusals, I too, have found nothing of the kind myself.
Oh ya, RINO all the way…they shoud bar her from the caucus with the other seven morons. Why does the GOP need them, like it'll make a difference? Blow 'em out, run real conservatives against these people in the primaries and let the chips fall where they may. WTF, theres not that much to lose and a lot to gain. The tide will turn, it always turns and the trend favors fiscally conservative candidates.
Great summation, Burt, I think we all should now go buy a straight razor and a bottle of whiskey.
Does Georgie Snuffleupagus still do the list of the fallen on his Sunday show? Haven't seen the show for awhile now.
Come on, someone here must watch it.
Frankenstein is now a Senator from the State of the Loon. How fitting. Barry Sotero aka Obama is now the Pretender to the Presidency from Indonesia. How smug and condecendingly illegal. Liar Pelosi the Wicked Witch of the West is now Head dimwit from the leader in self imposed bankruptcy, Kalifornia. How appropriate. And the band plays on….. Except the sock puppets can't carry a tune…. I hope everybody that was asleep in the last election wakes up in 2010 and votes the dimwits out of power. Now that would be genuine change to hope for….
Whoa!!! what about a Scare alert for stuff like that there.
I could terrorize my grandkids with that pic. eek!!!
Do we ever expect any liberal to really have the interests of the rest of us at heart?
He is quite right too, it is a religion among the eco-mentalists, promoting unquestioning loyalty and obedience, indoctrinating our youth, ensnaring ordinary citizens who would rather be left alone, forcing them to join "the party" to stay in business, invading their homes to ensure compliance with the directives, labeling "the offensive ones" as enemies of the people, soon they will be herding them into "awareness" camps where they will engage in forced labor planting trees and separating recyclables …
Oh wait, that is not how he meant it? Nevermind.
Oh, the press will continue to ask questions of candidates:
(Type of question for a Republican candidate) "Have you stopped beating your wife?"
(Type of question for a Democrat candidate) "What did you have for breakfast this morning?"
Expect that level of probing to continue. Campaign after campaign after campaign after……
As hard as times are one thought fills me with optimism. American voters no longer have any patience for the scheming of pampered ivy-league elites. This isn’t even a matter of taking political sides. The reason we’re stuck with the Bamster in the first place is because of Dubya’s Iraq delusions. FDR was able to radicalize politics during the Great Depression because Americans at that time actually trusted their leaders. That’s no longer the case. Voters automatically assume the worst about whoever’s in office.
The pushback from the crazy cap-and-trade taxes and attempts to take over health care already seem to have reached the tipping point. Another month or two of bad economic news is going to drop the Bamster’s approval to 30% or less. Let’s look on that as a victory. No one in Washington can create wealth or prosperity. Once they are totally disgraced, the economy will improve dramatically.
I have reported your pointless comment. Hopefully you will be removed from here.
It is indeed a horrific picture you have painted.
The most horrifying thing is that many people are STILL supporting this man.

Good points.
Excellent column – and unsettling, as are the times.
Well the good thing is at least Obama is living up to his campaign promises. Maybe next time the American people will listen to the candidates and vote based on what they say. Maybe next time the press will ask questions rather than worry about the tingle running down there leg. We can only hope that as the press has to change to Americans new Health policy and they watch their family die under it, then they may actually ask questions that matter to the American people.
We can have HOPE also!
So are liberals. Your point?
It's so great to know I"m not alone. Thanks for this article. It's all true and wise.
Well, yeah, it's funnier than the usual crap that SNL has thrown at us lately. I can see Amy Poehler ("Baby Mama") playing the part of the unfortunate Sunday School teacher.
Star Trek TNG, watch the first and second seasons from 1987/88.

That's what this is all about…

"things". We have eliminated hunger,
want, the need for possessions.
We have grown out of our infancy.

Im just tired of people blaming TV because they cant teach their kids right…
I think all us Republicans need to do is to look at the polls to see that as long as we dont nominate a bum candidate, Obama is going down in flames.
