Squaring Off With Obama
by Burt PrelutskyI have to hope for the sake of our country’s future that when people voted for Obama they really had no idea what a disaster he would be, even though I kept warning them that he was a left-wing lug nut. It seemed to me that his legion of fans had been hypnotized or sprinkled with fairy dust. They blindly accepted that words like “hope” and “change” were complete sentences that actually added up to a national policy.
We, who assumed that a grown-up whose friends and mentors were people like Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, Saul Alinsky, the folks at ACORN and the most corrupt of Chicago politicians, believed he was more likely to belong in a square cell than in the Oval Office.
For my part, I felt a lot like Kevin McCarthy in the movie, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” trying to warn my fellow earthlings that the pod people were among us and definitely up to no good.
It’s not just the big things the man does, things such as the kazillion dollar bail-outs, the trichinosis-infested budget and the threat of the Fairness Doctrine being enacted, that make my blood run cold. It’s not even the allegedly eloquent orator requiring a TelePrompter in order to say, “Hello.” What I’m referring to is the Commander in Chief earmarking $900 million for Hamas and, worse yet, make veterans financially responsible for their own service-related medical treatments. (That comes under the heading of adding insult to injury.) And let us not forget Obama’s sending the bust of Winston Churchill back to the English embassy and then, compounding that infantile act of boorishness, by treating the Prime Minister of our staunchest ally like a guttersnipe.
Funny, I seem to recall Obama’s partisans insisting that he would personally make the United States popular the world over. Well, so far, he has certainly reached out to Cuba, Venezuela and Iran, and I suppose if he actually closes Gitmo, Islamics will dance in the street of Tehran just before dropping the bomb on Israel.
Regarding the recent brouhaha, I’m afraid I’m one of the few people who wasn’t up in arms over the AIG bonuses. To me, they were just an obvious distraction by the administration, just like the unwarranted attacks on Rush Limbaugh or Clinton’s bombing of the pharmaceutical factory. I’m not saying I was happy about the bonuses, but a contract is a contract, and I prefer to see a bunch of scumbags collect their undeserved millions than to see the day that contracts in America are no longer worth the paper they’re written on.
I keep hearing people on the radio and TV going ballistic over the fact that employees at a failed company were collecting as much as four million taxpayer dollars for being rotten at their jobs, and I’m sick and tired of it. How is it that nobody is demanding that 435 self-righteous congressmen and 100 arrogant senators give back their salaries? They’re the folks who not only oversaw a failing economy, but, thanks to pushing sub-prime home loans on people who didn’t have a pot to piss in, did the most to cause the financial calamity in the first place.
On top of all that, I’ve heard that Obama and his legislative cronies plan to give AIG at least another 30 billion before they’re done. So how about, instead of having to watch politicians grandstanding over the measly $165 million in bonuses and Charley Schumer’s threatening to get the money back by having the IRS bludgeon these folks to death, the schmucks in Washington just write the company a check for $29,835,000,000 the next time around?
I understand that, according to some recent polls, Obama and the Democrats, in spite of a pandering media, are losing some of their allure after a relatively brief honeymoon. Which can’t help but remind me of a line attributed to Oscar Wilde, that Niagara Falls is only the second biggest disappointment in the life of an American bride.
Someone recently suggested that in less than three months, Obama went from being a messiah to being a mess. However, here in Hollywood, he is still sheer magic. They utter his name with the same reverence as when Christians refer to Jesus or Bill Maher refers to himself.
But, then, Hollywood is a peculiar place where celebrities who treat their own assistants and household help like underpaid coolies, are constantly demanding that Washington should do more for the poor and the oppressed. Hollywood is where actors think God was created in their image, while actresses are so full of plastic and collagen that even their own dogs can’t pick them out of a crowd.
I’m sure that Sean Penn thinks he should be ambassador to Cuba, and if only he owed back taxes, I’m certain this administration would give him the gig.
Even as I dream of the day when conservatives take back the reins of government, I worry that in the meantime the liberals will find a way to place a luxury tax on our dreams.
Finally, in case any of you were wondering, it will be 117,936,218 seconds until Obama’s term ends. But, who’s counting?

"It seemed to me that his legion of fans had been hypnotized or sprinkled with fairy dust. They blindly accepted that words like “hope” and “change” were complete sentences that actually added up to a national policy."
People in Venezuela did the same thing when Hugo Chavez promised them that he would eliminate crime, give them homes and jobs. He promised them honesty and to eliminate corruption in government. The masses followed him blindly. The opposition said that he will be voted out the next election, don't worry about it.
They should have worried about it. He has taken over the media, the oil industry, American corporations and now is taking over the banks. To see what is really going on in Venezuela check out this blog: The Devil's Excrement http://blogs.salon.com/0001330/
Oh this is going to be so much worse than anyone ever dreamed…..and it has barely begun.
Did anyone see one of yesterday's Town Hall love fests? Our new President proudly talked about closing Guantanamo (applause), and calling for patience in completing that task because SOME of the detainees are actually dangerous and MIGHT cause us harm if it's not handled right. Some?????
I'm shouting at the TV, "And which ones aren't you moron!"
And guess what's happening to the price of oil now that the value of the dollar is not quite the same as it was. Any predictions on the price of gas in a month or two?
Arghhhhhhhhhh!
Barely Begun is right… Deficits in the trillions… Printing a trillion dollars while idiot congressmen bicker on bonuses that amount to a tenth of a penny for each dollar dumped into the abyss of AIG
Maybe this is what the Bush Derrangers felt for the last 8 years… but at least I don't hate Obama… I'm just incredibly depressed this nation allowed him to elect this guy.

Do not forget that they voted themselves a nice fat pay raise.
But, then, Hollywood is a peculiar place where celebrities who treat their own assistants and household help like underpaid coolies, are constantly demanding that Washington should do more for the poor and the oppressed. My only reply to this comes from a Hollywood movie out of the 40's.
What does an actor want with a conscience anyway?
How can one man create or cause so much bad legislation in such a short period of time. How could such wretched legislation be passed by some of the most nincompoopish people on the globe? How can the vox populae stand behind and cheer about such dreadful laws? I thought this was an episode of the twilight zone, but there's no Rod standing at the side of the picture, intoning – "Respectfully submitted for your perusal." Thanks Burt, 117,936,139 seconds looks more appalling in print.
And today it was revealed that obama lied about the cost of this criminal fleecing; he downplayed the figure by $2 Trillion. He has so far tripled the deficit under Bush and when it's all said and done the taxpayer will be raped for $9 Trillion.
Dc should be burned to the ground with all the political filth trapped inside.
There are so many things to get upset over in the brief time this administration has been in office that I hardly know where to begin–
What's got me spitting mad right now is all the faux outrage in congress over AIG. When you have government throwing around trillions of dollars like it's nothing, it's not exactly credible that they really give a sh** about taxpayer dollars going to executive bonuses. I mean, the "stimulus" package has what? $300 million allocated toward "green" cars for federal employees — isn't that nearly twice the amount AIG paid out? At this point I could care less about AIG. I want to see Barney Frank in front of a Senate investigation answering for his role in the Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae nightmare. I want to see the real crooks have to answer for their crimes.
I just caught snippets yesterday of the adulation that was being heaped on Barack Hussein Obama at his majesty's "town hall" meetings in CA. It was enough to make me gag. For the first time in my entire life, I am embarrassed and ashamed to be a native born Californian. I could not believe how imbecilic these people appeared – haven't they gotten it yet???? We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the U.S. and they are applauding him? Oh my God people – what the hell is wrong with you? Do you think BHO is going to bail you out? You are a bunch of morons – right up there alongside YOUR president. He will NEVER be mine.
Don't wait that long, start planning for 2010 right now. A bunch of new faces in the Congress would be helpful.
You better call Steve Reeves back, Hercules needs to clean out the stables in Sacramento .
"make veterans financially responsible for their own service-related medical treatments. "
From the link: "The Obama administration is considering making veterans use private insurance to pay for treatment of combat and service-related injuries."
Obama wants to let corporations take over what was traditionally a government service? Hmm. That's pretty "free-market" of him. Maybe he's not a socialist after all.
Well, first of all those "Town Hall" meetings are for the most part, scripted. It wouldn't surprise me if the invitation list was "by invitation only" off the Democrat voter list.
This infatuation with Obama – and perhaps reflection by some prior supporters, reminds me of a line an automovive magazine had when testing an exotic car whose name everyone knows – and found it's driving experience to be somewhat lacking.
It's like", the writer said, "finally being able to spend an evening with an international movie star – full of sex appeal – and finding the experience to be less than enjoyable.
Or words to that effect – it has been 30 years or so.
How many seconds left now?
How about "Invasion of the Money Snatchers." …'Let's see…moneysnatching…money….here it is! Moneysnatching, see 'Snatch"..'
"Finally, in case any of you were wondering, it will be 117,936,218 seconds until Obama’s term ends. But, who’s counting?"
Hilarious.
BTW, invasion of the body snatchers is one of those movies that I do a "Mystery Science Theater 3000" commentary to. I love that movie.
Thank you for being against the AIG contract breaking stuff. I agree, the day that contracts are worthless in America is the day that everything will tear apart at the seams.
The best thing to come out of the faux outrage would be the ouster of Chris Dodd. Unfortunately, the election is a year and a half away.
I don't hate the guy either. I just think he is truly incompetent. We could have a truly experienced person in the office right now. Possibly Palin. I mean if we're going over resumes.
Mike,
They don't even have to vote for it. It is an automatic pay raise.
Great article, Burt! I look forward to hearing your take on things every week. Keep 'em coming for us, ok?
Watch it with the "pot to piss in" comment. We don't want the liberals to add anything else to their "What Americans need" list.
I have an aunt who's very liberal and fully supports Obama. She does a yearly missionary tour of Liberia. She's very impressed with the way of life over there, the sense of community and sharing and understanding what's important in life.
She helped me better understand the Obama plan. Once we're all so poor we have to share a pot and pass it on, then we'll have unity (joint ownership), fairness (everyone uses the same one), and a real sense of community!
BTW she lives alone in the country, in a "modest" house you can easily fit three Cambodian refugee families into, on enough acreage she makes some side money selling timber every now and then. It's good to know she so well supports the poor over there.
Better idea. Exhume the bodies of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Lincoln, et. al. Attach some magnets to their skeletons, and run copper wire around their coffins. Let their spinning in their graves solve our energy problem.
What I find ironic, after getting over the anger at the whole proposal, is what does this say about Obama's proposed new National Health Care scheme?
Is he saying that the private sector health care is better than what the government can provide even to wounded warriors? Which would mean that maybe nationalized health is a bad idea. No couldn't be that, that'd be inconceivable.
A communial pot to piss in, what a concept.
That could get interesting if more than one needs it at the same time.
I know…………I am sick
Now don't you worry none, Obama has a plan to take care of California. Remember, he's big on giving the "stolen wealth" back to its "rightful owners." So he's going to return California to Mexico.
This will also be trumpeted in the MSM as his administration's major contribution to immigration reform.
At this point, a serial arsonist in DC would be welcomed by the people as a hero.
I wonder if they will give their raises back?
Maybe they willl vote a 90% tax on their pay.
Should I hold my breath?
I wish I thought he was incompetent, but I'm very afraid that he isn't.
I thought about that on the way home last night. He's just a puppet (couldn't wait to use that term for a Dem after 8 years of putting it on allies of Bush) of the left. Just don't know who's hand's up his arse.
That's an ongoing debate in my house, whether he's incompetent or frightfully competent. We haven't reached an answer yet, but it's more than a little scary either way.
No, because he wants to tax that care too. So, it really reveals the hatred and contempt he has for the armed forces. Make veterans use private insurnace for their combat wounds and then tax them for it like he plans to tax anyone else not on government care. That's Frank's dream anyhow.
I have my new tea party sign slogan all ready:
Congress, for the bonuses before they were against them.
It's no wonder the dow is down again. Not only are the Twits in Congress endangering contract law with out of control legislation, but they're also talking about using tax law as a target against their enemies. If you worked in the private sector or were thinking about investing in it, you'd be having second thoughts. Watching Frank go off is McCarthyesque, and yes, I'm pounding that drum.
It's a long-standing rule in this country, you get hurt on the job then the the job pays for it. Obama doesn't want the rule to apply to government, when it comes to the most non-political of public servants who can't really complain about him. Punishing those who can't oppose you seems very "liberal" and "socialist" of him.
Thankfully enough veterans groups were able to complain and did, that's been shelved. Now that he's lost the proposed $650 million in savings from the war-mongering baby-killers, he'll have to look elsewhere to send that $900 million to the peace-loving misunderstood Palestinians.
No doubt about it. If two guys, just like the guys from the North Hollywood shootout, walked into congress and started doing what must be done and I were on the jury I would find them not guilty and would give them each a good chunk of change to show my appreciation.
Obama, saying that a recent 129 he scored in the White House bowling alley had been "like Special Olympics, or something."
Maria Shriver: "I'm sure he didn't mean it that way."
That's right Maria, you stupid liberal jackass, he meant it "in a good way!"
I had the same feeling, and it can be slightly mitigated by reminding yourself that they carefully screen who attends those things. Only true believers seek the tickets and only true believers ++ are allowed in. It's scary, but not as scary as you think.
I agree. I'm afraid that he knows exactly what he is doing.
I agree that a contract needs to be fullfilled and the bonuses should be paid by AIG. If the country is in such uproar about the payment, they should have never let congress and presidents whats his name, approve the bailout. AIG should have filled for bankruptcy protection and been allowed to reorganize. No tax payer dollars, and the checks and balances for a capitalist economy work, but instad we use a socialist playbook, and set AIG up fo becoming a natinalized company. Scary.
Libby Dems are now pointing fingers at each other as to who slipped the bonus idea into the stimulus package.
Stay focused, people. 2010 is the target. This craziness is only 60 days in, and libs are already sharpening up for more meat to cut from us. Find the conservatives and legislation you support, and push it like crazy. These guys are starting to lose it. PBHO without a teleprompter is money in the bank, and campaign mode is getting real old. Dodd is facing losing to "anonymous". CSPAN footage of bailout bonuses being a problem is starting to turn up weeks before anyone thought it was an issue. Hillary WANTS to stay on the plane, out away from cameras and the DC vortex of doom. Michelle won't want to be seen doing the "sharecropping" of the White House grounds for very much longer. Bill's looking for a rock to crawl under and hide from the coming explosion, and Carville is trying to push his way in. Congress Republicans -3 are being ignored, and are avoiding most of the blame coming by saying, "I didn't vote for any of this, they did." Americans are arming up. And even Californians are starting to wonder.
It is a time of great sacrifice! Everybody has to wait for their turn. It is a time of responsibility! Everybody has to dump their own. Everybody has to dump their own dump as well. It is a time of sharing! Pass along that sheet when you're done with it.
Side note: I have heard the tales of the old ones of the days of outhouses. I once had a teacher bemoan we'd never know the joy of getting clean with a glossy sheet from the Sears Roebuck catalog.
Now we have a reason to keep the newspapers around.
I love it. This will turn into a Dem on Dem feeding frenzy yet.
Oh I have no doubt the man has contempt for all things military, and like most on the left he never saw a tax he didn't like.
I think the ultimate reason for his military care privatization scheme is to impact the future military. If you were an guy thinking about the joining the military but knew your chances would go up at having to pay ridiculous medical bills because you were wounded serving your country it would most likely make you think a little longer and harder about joining, or if already in, staying in. He has said that he wants to downsize the military after all.
Then if recruitment and retention levels drop down far enough, that allows them to open the door on the draft again, which the likes of Wrangle supports already. They'll point to the numbers and say they were forced to institute a draft because the levels were too low, hoping people would forget that their polices actually made the levels drop. They'd wrap it in all manner of populism as well, by insisting that a drafted military is a more "fair" solution because it cuts across all class lines and the like.
Not only would it impact recruiting and retention levels in the military, possibly even leading to something that by their definition is a more "equitable" military; but it would also make the military hesitant about advocating military action anywhere.
That is what the plan really boils down to in my opinion, a way to downsize the US military while at the same time making the military less likely to recommend interventionism at almost any cost, because of the crippling medical costs that they could incur over and above the normal hardships soldiers have to go through every day.
All in all that is a positive post. Thanks for sharing. Sharecropping – love it.
Don't blame me, I voted for Palin.
I amazed how many people, even the liberals I know, hate the AIG bonus thing. Even these liberals understand how devastating it will be to our very fabric if contracts suddenly don't mean anything.
Sadly, the stock market understands that as well, and today it showed my portfolio what it thinks of that.
it will be 117,936,218 seconds until Obama’s term ends. But, who’s counting?
Oh, but we can all keep track, right here.
Be sure to click the "about us" link. Snerk!
I agree. Like I've said before, he reminds me of a liberal Terminator Robot, relentlessly determined to put in place every left wing policy he can before everything blows for.
Only Palin?????

I think their fall guy is going to be Geithner, if the public starts demanding somebody's head. He's off to such a rocky start that they won't mind jetisoning him to get a clean slate.
Geitner? "I can't figure out TurboTax" Geitner? I cant call the IRS and try to figure out how to pay my taxes Geitner?I don't know a tax attorney Geitner? I know what dodo Dodd is trying to do to Geitner.
They both deserve the "Slick Willie" treatment over it. You pick which "he" you want in what position.

Thanks for another superb article. I feel physically sickened about the direction Obama & Co. is taking America & am concerned that even if Republicans can achieve majorities in the House & Senate in 2010 much of what makes this country great will be long gone. Aside from constantly writing my senators & congressman (who do not represent my politics by a long shot), & short of running for office, what can an average citizen like me do? I try to be a happy conservative warrior, but it is hard to not feel powerless & discouraged.
As it goes, workman's comp is close enough to a right in this country, with dismantling it in favor of a pure capitalistic solution causing more harm than good. And I can honestly admit there'd be too many willing to trade it for some extra pocket money if it wasn't mandated. As a quasi-capitalistic system with rising premiums for employers based on claims, its major problem is lawyers determining what's a valid claim, we'd be better off with private firms doing the determining with selection by 50/50 voting between employers and employees.
But saying the rules don't apply to them, and trying to soak the "big greedy insurance companies" for it, that's pretty "progressive." And there are lots of National Guard and Reserve people with private plans who would be severely hurt and likely lose insurance. What justification is there for that, other than to say "See, I told you we need socialized medicine!"
Which leads to a traditional "liberal paradox." How is this to "save" money, when the goal is socialized medicine and the government (read taxpayer) paying anyway? Just more sleight-of-hand and distraction from what's really being done, wait for the big magical reveal. Thanks, but we have enough of that already.
I just can't think of why the POTUS and his squeeze have to grow vegetables for, not to mention the security nightmare the Secret Service is dealing with…
"Agent Blank, its your turn to watch the rutabagas. And keep an eye on that squirrel…he's been watching Islamic television…"
Yeah, when I got my bumper stickers for my cars, I told the man I’m a Palin voter, voting for McCain, the dude looked at me like I had lost my mind. That was next morning after her amazing speech, with and I note, a dysfunctional teleprompter, eh…hmm… Take that Barry!
Don't give a gift to the enemy by giving up. What helps make these folks think they have power is no one challenges them. We're usually very polite and want to let the political process work, and the "you have opinions, so do I" way we usually feel about things like this.
I adopted a new approach. I won't let any lib lay unchallenged anywhere anymore. They say something stupid, I act just like they say I do and give them both barrels up close. I no longer will be polite to insane people who will eventually get me killed by Islamoterrorists, Mexican drug gangs, stupid laws passed to make someone feel good, etc. Call me a racist, homophobe, intolerant (fill in the blank), and I'll say, "opinions vary, and you can't think no matter how good your education is", and drive on the main subject. Libs hate being told they're ignorant and indoctrinated.
I won't be quiet and polite anymore, too much is at stake.
I believe that the liberal plan is working as they see it perfectly. Bawney (thanks Lola) is slobbering more than normal with wet anticipation, yuk. They have learned from their other failed presidents, Carter, Clinton, they have to work quickly. This country is inherently conservative and I’m not hearing happiness in Muddville, USA folks. The good news as usual Democrats are over reaching and an a$$ kicking is on the way. Cut these jerks no slack hold their feet to the fire and change will be on the way. As far as an adoring throng when we get rid of this crop $hitty Washington politicians, we’ll spank the Barry supporters and send them to their rooms, problem solved.
The Nimoy/Sutherland/Goldblum 1978 remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" took place here in San Francisco, and the alien pod people were mindless yuppies. A remake with Obama in the movie would work just fine today. They could add a little extra to the Sutherland part for Obama. The pod people communicated with each other in a kind of unintelligible screech. In the new version, that problem is eliminated when Obama gets a teleprompter. Now you can't tell him from the actual human beings.
on top of all this, BO gave away region 1 DVD's to be played in the UK…that should draw the line right there.
That’s typical, dumb SOB’s!
I agree w/ Mjolnir, certainly don't give up. Then, even tho' BH is a wonderful place to read and post, get over to DilyKos, HuffPo, and anyother lib site you like and start posting conservative ideas, principals, & thoughts. Oppose these cretins with all you have. The navigate back to BH and have a few laughs and sharpen your arguments via these discussions, then back out to the ramparts. It's something we all can do.
Maybe, just maybe we can get out from under this financial mess by raising some captial thru the sell off of some national assets. Like France got some cash via the Louisiana Purchase, the Russians sold us Alaska, etc. Well let's sell a few states. I mean we've got 57. So if we sell say, 7 of them, we'll raise money and won't have to change any flags to boot. But I forgot, the real estate market is down, and it's hard to get a loan. Wait, we can force the banks to reduce standards for qualified borrowers, then Haiti could buy it all seven…….oh sorry, nevermind.
Well, BO is who he is and moaning about it is not going to change a wit. What is happening is Chris Dodd, for the first time in his life, is going to loose an election, he has been slurping at the public trough since 1975! Yes the Republicans made some mistakes, the problem with them is that they don't look at the roll of government in the manner the Dem's or do they play that kind of game. It took a good year and a half and some good leadership from Mr. Newt, to roll over the Dems in 94. BO done it in less than 100 days to get people angry. This AIG business is a case in point, No Republican voted for the bill except the usual three, the Genius from PA and the two from Maine. And BO was angry about it, lucky for us, they held fast. They voted for something they didn't read, and then well we have to do a cya about the bonuses. Gee's 165 million vs dam near a trillion down a rat hole, and they are upset about the 165 mil. That is not even enough to pay for a Divorce that is going on here in CT with some Swedish Chippy and a Retired CEO. I don't know about you, but I am not going to let the junk run my life.
You're ashamed? Think how I feel! Born in Chicago, living in San Francisco. I'm looking forward to moving somewhere where I can say "for the first time in my life, I am not embarrassed and ashamed to be a citizen of [fill in the blank].
On the other hand… for John McCain's own health – I wouldn't want to subject that man to THIS nonsense. Sure he survived the Hanoi Hilton, but he's done his service.
I like Palin but she would be far too much of an outsider to work the system. We Californians know that outsiders can't get anything done against a stonewalling Democratic majority (Arnold anyone?)
I don't think Obama is incompentent – but he's making a lot of "rookie" mistakes. And he's following a philosophy that I disagree with.
But just to prove I'm not 100% "nice"… I think I have Barney Frank Derangement Syndrome. Everytime I see him, I think of the retarded kid Mike Myers played on SNL. Maybe he should wear a helmet and drool guard.
But I digress…
"Even as I dream of the day when conservatives take back the reins of government,…"
Burt, I wouldn't be holding my breath if I were you. The two reasons that the conservatives will never return to power in the federal government?
First of all the enormous number of those in the lower tax brackets who, under POTUS plan will no longer pay any taxes at all. These voters are added to the public teat and thus those votes are safely purchased for the democrats.
Secondly, the conservative, by nature is an independent thinker and averse to collectivist thought and action. The solid, lockstep block that passes for democrat thinking ensures that any democrat will get the entire flock of lemmings to vote for him or her. There would never be the case of democrats staying home or just not voting for a member of their party because they objected to the candidate's policies – ala John McCain.
Good luck to us…. Read this: Terence Conran, "Is this the end of America" http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fpcommen...
As an American that moved overseas at the end of the Clinton administration, I am really glad that I live somewhere where the Prime Minister is on national TV once a week in the morning. The host of the morning show has no problem confronting the PM weekly with issues that affect the people of this country. No hiding behind others, responsiblity accepted. I also don't belive we have seen the PM use a telepromter once since elected. In watching the US news on CNN, Fox and BBC and the news here it is amazing, we might as well be watching two different presidents. In watching Dem supporters of the new President no more correct description could be used than "pod people".
As an aside the original "Body Snatchers" hands down the best. No reason to have remade it.
Timothy Geithner will become Obama's 'fall guy" for the last two month's, and good-ole-party -line Chris Dodd will take the fall on the bonuses for the administration. Democratic Congressmen need to watch very closely what happens to those two…there is a lesson to be learned. They need to think long and hard before they vote "yes" and expend anymore of THEIR political capital to advance Obama's agenda. Their political careers are on the line and will be added to the scrap-heap that litters Obama's rise to power.
The events of the last two months have to make a person pause and really wonder if the economic recession was not enough of a catastrophe for Obama and Emanuel. Could any worse actions have occurred to turn a recession into a depression? Every dictator I can think of "never let a good crisis go to waste"; come to think of it, most very astutely managed to manufacture them!
"Gee's 165 million vs dam near a trillion down a rat hole, and they are upset about the 165 mil."
Classic bait-n-switch or sleight-of-hand…keep attention away from what is important or away from what you do not want people to see.
a most-likely nugget of truth recognized by too few !
If Obama had merely divvied up the 1 trillion dollars and given it equally to all Americans, that would be an extra $3291.37 in each of our pockets (based on June 2008 population estimate). Correct me if I'm wrong, but that kind of stimulus probably would've helped a lot more than what he did.
I agree that he may not be incompetent. I think he's doing exactly what he means to. At any cost. I don't think he's making any rookie mistakes. I believe he intends to do exactly what he is doing. Deliberately.
Very insightful. I hadn't considered that motive.
Is it possible this was a political ploy? "If you won't let us charge vets for service-connected injuries, then we have to get it somewhere else"? Where, I don't know. The idea was so absurd and offensive, it seems like a setup, part of Rahm's MO. Just a thought.
Does he have to be a serial arsonist?
after all, he stole his cheesy "yes we can" line off the Latinos. Least he can do is hand over California.
"Punishing those who can't oppose you seems very "liberal" and "socialist" of him."
Do you consider taking government services away and replacing them with private market services to be punishment? And those opposed to this are socialists? That does not compute.
"Thankfully enough veterans groups were able to complain and did, that's been shelved."
I agree. Veterans groups (across the ideological divide) rightfully opposed this idea. Because no matter what your politics, we all agree that we need government to do certain things, like caring for our veterans (and maintaining police and fire departments, and building roads and schools, and making sure toys don't have date rape drugs in them).
Thank you, but I can't claim full credit for the idea. The military has a grapevine that would put most wineries to shame, so many of these theories have been floating around ever since the announcement was made first made. I'm in frequent contact with people on active duty so listened to what their thinking was on the possibilities of "Why is this even being thought about?" I just took some dots that were already out there and came to my own connection on what I believe the motives behind it could be.
So if my conclusion turns out to be wrong, that's all on me, but the ideas that brought me to that conclusion have been. under heavy, if quiet, debate.
Good for you! I'm the same way. They've gotten a pass for too long.
Well when the Hero of Canton speaks I have to listen, providing Firefly is where you got the screen name from that is.
"First of all the enormous number of those in the lower tax brackets who, under POTUS plan will no longer pay any taxes at all. These voters are added to the public teat and thus those votes are safely purchased for the democrats"
That's a massive problem indeed. And one that I believe is was a reason that the deck was stacked against the GOP in '08, and will be even more stacked in '12 barring enough outrage by the "middle" over policies that are making even Maureen Dowd shake her head ruefully.
Keeping with a sci-fi theme, in many ways it's starting to look like the left is trying to turn the American voter into something right out of David Weber's Honor Harrington series. With the People's Republic of Haven's proles, complete with Acorn supplied voting bloc quotas and administration sponsored Basic Living Stipends. Which is all manner of disconcerting to me since I always thought Haven was supposed to be the French not the US.
Libby Dems are now pointing fingers at each other as to who slipped the bonus idea into the stimulus package.
What infuriates me is that when this was reported by Fox, TS Geitner accused Fox of lying.
I seems that when these guys get caught with their pants around their ankles, they blame either W or Fox, ISO fessing up and saying that they were just following their mentor, Slick Willie.
Sorry, I could not help myself. It must be a Friday thing…………………..>
You're absolutely right. The left engages in hero worship. Obama's crowd is no different. I got the creeps watching his wide-eyed followers chanting at his Nuremberg…er Denver rally. That creepy feeling has never gone away, though I now realize that he is in WAY far over his head, which makes him more laughable than scary.
I just think the poor guy is in over his head. Unfortunately because of that, now were all in over our heads. Plus I had a dorm room three doors down from him in college at Oxy (a few years after him) . I want that to mean something : )
Burt you have stated so eloquently everything that I have been screaming from the top of my lungs, way before obama won the election. How could people have been so blind.
It'll only be temporary anyway. Between Global Warming and The Big One, California is temporary. Good thing they're so perfectly environmental out there, it'll keep the Pacific Ocean from getting polluted.
Hope Lex Luthor didn't sell off those deeds, might be worth a great deal soon…
Oh, it already has…the fun part will be to see who Dodd and Geither try to take with them when they finally get tossed under the bus…I'm hoping for Barney and Maxine, personally…the office pools should get more action than the NCAA tournament!
I agree with you on the AIG bonuses. Whenever the politicians get hysterical, you know they're trying to cover up something bigger. It's also clever how they never get upset about their automatic yearly raises, especially when they have single-digit approval ratings.

Pod People. I love it. And so true. No matter what Obama does he has a massive amount of morons who will follow his stupidity and eat it like ice cream. Bleah! They are recognizable because they cannot think for themselves.
You could move to anywhere in Texas! No one says they are ashamed of Texas (and lives to tell the tale, anyway!)
Here! Here! I've spent 8 long years of being polite in the face of being called racist, bigotted, hate-mongering, war-mongering, evil, etc. Heck, I once got called evil simply for admitting to being a Christian. I don't play nice anymore. I refuse to pussyfoot around being polite. I won't open up with a double-barrel of rude, but I will be blunt and I don't apologize.
Thanks is very funny!!
I think it'll be hard unless they do some serious twinking. Polls show that Reps are starting to out run Dems in most districts.
Actually, he said that we had 60 states. He said [I paraphrase] – "I have been to 57 states so far, but my handlers won't let me go to Hawaii or Alaska…" I think he's must have been disappointed when he found out there were only 50, or he thought Bush and Cheney stole 10 on their way out.
now that you mention it, i was wondering what that high pitched hum was…
when i first read it, i didn't really think Clancy's "Debt of Honor" had a happy ending. now i'm not so sure…
can't you just see her out there in a do-rag and an apron, mopping her sweat-soaked brow?
But at least Palin is NOT a Socialist
We have to get the congress back in 2010. To stop this.
"I’m not saying I was happy about the bonuses, but a contract is a contract, and I prefer to see a bunch of scumbags collect their undeserved millions than to see the day that contracts in America are no longer worth the paper they’re written on."
I Agree. A good analogy is the 4th Amendment. "I would rather see a bunch of scumbags beat the rap than to see one innocent person dragged off into the night." Rights are rights. This administration and congress, with their invective and their errant actions have us all slip-slidin' down the slippery slope at breakneck speed!
Thanks, Bev. I actually have some old friends in Texas who have been telling me the same thing for a couple of years now.
When the Underling thinks that, The One is happy . . . because it's COVER, man! And O says one more time: "Damn the torpedoes! Full steam ahead!"
Heck, I'm not even from Texas and I love the place.
The problem here with having Obama on TV once a week is the continual love fest from yes men. None of the MSM will ask him a tough question. Katie (I'll beat the hell out of Palin) Couric – who herself, weighs 100 Courics – will faun all over him. You notice that he doesn't do press conferences, only scripted town hall meetings with 100" teleprompters. I watch the finance shows on Fox on Saturday mornings and they have the Obama supporter come on to explain that side of the issue. It never fails that the pod person only repeats what they've been told or read in some campaign pamphlet. When pressed to expand on what they're talking about, they repeat what they've just said. These people aren't that smart. They're lifetime bureaucrats and can't color outside the lines.
I think Sarah's great. She certainly is more willing to call it like she sees it than her running mate, my good friend John McCain.
WIN!
Its gonna be hard to keep that deity image if someone has to admit to making a mistake, though…
Si se puede, another one of Governor Bill Richardson's wonderful contributions to influence peddling…
Don't mention the other stuff, though, Lawhawk. Texas has an active death penalty…
Uh, oh…lot of probable in that…
Todd, let me congradulate you by the way, in the biggest recovery I have ever seen in the +/- category. Weren't you -70 or something when you came here?
That's why Geithner yesterday said that he knew about the bonuses, but "didn't tell the President for several days." I give Geithner one more stock market crash before someone starts looking for a plank.
Man, when you're on, you're on!! LOL!
Actually, no, I can't. I CAN see her berating the groundskeeper up and down the halls about weeding the rows and using "Environmentally Friendly" pesticides on the aphids, lest someone in the MSM get wind of it…and having someone slipping out to the local organic market to "plant" certain crops to replace the ones that won't grow in her region.
Thank you. I went from +26 to -76 in one day and back to where I started. Lots of pushups, clean living and Wheaties!
you mean to tell me she's gonna do a black Martha Stewart impression and not the whole Aunt Jemima thang? dang…
ROFLMAO!! Good one!
Best suggestion I've heard yet!
I was born in NY but grew up in Chicago. I keep thinking… wow, we inflicted this man on the country.
Wonder if Lettrerman will report this gaffe
By the way, Burt, if I haven't said it before. Thanks. Your posts are always very well done.
Yes Todd, let's do that. Let's go over resumes shall we?
Palin: A former beauty queen turned local TV sportscaster went to five colleges in six years landing at an Idaho community college with ZERO admissions standards moves to Alaska, marries a rich guy, uses rich guys money to run for Mayor, rides wave of disenchantment in the Governorship of a state of roughly 684,000 people less than 200 thousand of whom actually voted for her.
or
Obama: After two years at Occidental College in CA, Obama was accepted to one of the most prestigious and distinguished colleges on planet earth (get used to that, I'm going to repeat it again, just for good measure), Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations and graduated with a B.A. who then went on to be accepted (ready for this?) Harvard University where he became editor of the Harvard Law Review, the single most respected legal periodical in the United States, then was elected to the State Senate in Illinois, then the U.S. Senate, then (SUCK IT!) The Presidency of the United States for 8 YEARS!!! LMAO!!! 8 YEARS!!!
Or, were you suggesting a review of their Governance? I could provide you with that too, FOOL.
That's it? Palin, who did graduate from the Unverisity of Idaho, not a community college went on to marry an oil worker. Not a rich guy. Your arguments are of the same lies that your side of the aisle used during the campaign. That she was for burning books, etc. That were found out to be lies. He state does have a small population, but she has an 60+% approval rating from them. Obama's approval is below George Bush's at the same time in his first term.
Obama's resume is just another Ivy League snob, who was groomed to be a liberal bureaucrat. Nothing more. He was community agitator, a short stint in the corrupt Illinois state government, 4 years as a US Senator (where he had such a decisive demeanor to vote present 190 times) and 2 of that was running for president. This guy is and will be found out to be what he is – A big government socialist. So far, his ineptness is bleeding out faster than a scene in a Tarantino movie. His cabinet is full of lobbyists, after he said that he wouldn't have any. He told us that he wouldn't sign a budget with earmarks. He signed one with over 9000. To tell you the truth, I can't keep up with either his lies or renegging on his campaign promises. There are too many to cover.
If he keeps up spending and taxing that would make Chavez and Castro jealous, he'll lose the congress in 2010 and be a one termer like another inept president, Jimmy Carter.
Moron.
Oh and another thing, moron, everytime Papa Obama opens his mouth I lose another point on my 401k like tens of millions of American's. He's tripling the US debt to cover his Democratic campaign contributors without thinking of the ramifications. He's killing our economy in ways even hard core opponents couldn't foresee. He's spent more (and it's not stimulus) in 2 months than Bush did in 8 years. It's his recession now.
You must also feel good that he has helped out the teleprompter industry by buying the product that keeps him from messing up his jokes about the handicapped? Without it he's hum and haw his way through life. Come on and be honest. Even pin-headed Obama supporters like yourself have to be disappointed by his comedic level on incompetence? He does make a pretty speech though. Do they get teleprompter training at Columbia?
Odd. Last night after watching a B-movie on TV, "Invasion"….I was thinking Obama's supporters act like pod people!
Yeah, what did RONALD REAGAN do with his conscience? I've been wondering about that for many years.
I dare say, More that Slick Willie did.
The jury is out on Mr. Obama.
A disfunctional teleprompter?
Let me think, who else ran into that and how did he handle it?????
