Let Us Not Praise Famous Men (Or Women)
by Burt PrelutskyThe way that liberal politicians and Hollywood celebrities carry on over the plight of poor people, you might easily get the idea that they actually know some. They don’t. Why would they when they only hang around with each other?
Those two groups are made up entirely of narcissists. Who else would want or need to exist entirely in the spotlight? They’re like moths. The irony is that, physically, the two groups couldn’t be more different and, yet, on a per capita basis, they probably spend the same amount on Botox, collagen and plastic surgery. When it comes to nips, tucks and hair transplants, alone, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden, have spent enough money to keep several poor families in vittles for years to come.
Speaking of appearances, I can see the attraction of politics. In no other field, except perhaps for rock and roll, are so many homely people described as highly photogenic sex symbols. I first became aware of this phenomenon when John Kennedy, a man who in his early 40s already had an impressive set of jowls, was sold to us as a combination of Tyrone Power and Cary Grant. Then along came Bill Clinton, a pudgy fellow with a big red nose and little piggy eyes, and yet even he apparently made liberal women swoon. Now we have Barack Obama, a man boasting ears that would put Dumbo to shame, a man who looks like he could leave Air Force One in the hangar and just let a strong breeze carry him wherever he has to go.
It’s not just the politicians, but also their mates, so long as they’re Democrats, who get the star treatment. Take Michelle Obama…please. Every time I turn around, there she is on a magazine cover. Now, normally, like the Mafia, I lay off the spouses, but inasmuch as this particular spouse attended the same racist church as her hubby for 20 years, I’ll make an exception in her case. After all, in spite of the fact that affirmative action got her an Ivy League degree and a $7,000-a-week salary and, moreover, has sent billions of dollars for no particularly good reason to Africa, she insists this is a mean country.
Naturally, the left-wing media is now trying to convince us she has all the allure, glamour and fashion sense of Jackie Kennedy. I have even heard her upper arms described in the sort of language Wordsworth devoted to flowers in the morning dew and that Keats lavished on nightingales. Frankly, if I were Mrs. Obama and the geeks started rhapsodizing about my triceps, I might consider wearing sleeves.
But there’s no getting around the fact that Barack is the bigger menace. His latest money-burning crusade is universal health care. It was bad enough when the Clintons pushed for it 15 years ago. It hasn’t improved with age.
If it were up to me, basic health insurance would only cover catastrophic injuries and diseases. If hypochondriacs feel they have to see a doctor every time they sneeze, that kind of coverage can be handled the same way as car, life and fire insurance. They’d pay through the nose for it. As P.J. O’Rourke observed: “If you think health care is expensive now, just wait until it’s free.”
A friend of mine thinks that one way to lower the price of medical care is through tort reform. He thinks that so long as lawyers can put physicians through the meat grinder, doctors will be forced to keep raising their fees in order to cover their insurance bills. It was my friend’s suggestion that if somebody sues a doctor for malpractice and loses the case, he should be liable for all the court costs. I pointed out that no poor person, no matter how badly maimed, could then afford to sue and run the risk of losing and that no lawyer could afford to take the case on a contingency basis.
My solution was that no lawyer would be allowed to sue a doctor if he had sued a medical practitioner, say, twice before and lost. That would at least prevent the worst sort of shyster from making a career out of chasing ambulances.
One of the things that concerns me about Obama’s presidency is that every time he opens his yap, he sounds so darn naive. Just recently, he spoke about reaching out to moderates in the ranks of the Taliban. A moderate in that society is a cretin who wants to murder Christians, Jews and any woman who refuses to wrap herself in a bed sheet before leaving the house, but who draws the line at beheading his victims for Al-Jazeera’s TV cameras.
I find it hard to believe that the majority of saps who voted for Obama last November would do it all over again even though he has been spending money in a way that would give drunken sailors a bad name, while Wall Street and Main Street both begin to resemble Tobacco Road. It seems that when people described Obama as charismatic, they didn’t mean he was particularly bright, only that he was able to convince a lot of dummies that liver-and-onion flavored ice cream tastes better than chocolate or vanilla.
The way things are headed, it seems that Khrushchev almost got it right. The Soviet Union didn’t bury us, as he predicted, we simply dug our own grave. We went Socialist without a bomb being dropped or a shot being fired. The coup took place in election booths all over America, and anyone who doesn’t regard it as a tragic event didn’t deserve to be born here.
Recently, the following message has been all over the Internet: It’s a Recession when your neighbor loses his job. It’s a Depression when you lose your job. It’s a Recovery when Obama loses his job.
Amen.

I found that Taliban remark incredibly dangerous. Is there such a thing as a moderate? And if so, how do you negoiate with a crate of cobras? Unfortunately with neophytes – no so good. Conversely, maybe they're looking for a few more crises – I'm sure Achmed and the boys would be delighted to accomodate. They'd love nothing better than to take us back to the frivolity and mirth that was the fifth century.
What a lovely photo of three members of the Obama family: Barack, Michelle, and The Teleprompter…
Damn Burt, tell us what you really think. I love it man, especially the reference to Dumbo. This has been the MO of the left to deify a politician, above all mankind, beyond reproach. It doesn’t matter what the politician says or does keep they must keep Camelot alive, barf. This is to keep the hypnotized in a swoon, for love of our Dear Leader, and the sad facts are it works, for awhile. Slowly but surely Barry is being revealed for the empty suit that he is, and many are coming out of their coma, saying, “huh…do what?” I just hope it’s not to late to save the greatest country the world has ever known, the USA. Keep’em coming Burt, this will surely anger the miserable myrmidons on the left.
Style, maybe, but no substance. That describes Hollywood and, unfortunately, our current administration. After a while, even a handsome guy or a pretty girl with no brains gets boring and dangerous if left unchecked.

Killer comment. I'm beginning to think he'll have to have the teleprompter surgically removed when he leaves office (sooner, hopefully, than later).
Great item, Burt. There isn't a single thing Obama has done, from smoking to flushing trillions down the communist crapper to not having served in the military to attending a racist church for 20 years that any Republican would have survived for two seconds.
OK folks, all together: burn your newspapers.
Well, the Soviets are testing Obama on a daily basis and finding him to be an A**wipe. They will soon be landing bombers off the Coast at Cuba bases. Hmm, perhaps the Kingfish can just invite them to land at Reagan airport for lunch and give them some DVDs for the ride home?
Do you think they would have tested George this way? I think not!
That's perfect!
i differ a bit in my belief of The One and his twitch-inducing spouse. i don't believe he is naive at all. I think he is right on course for what he hoped to achieve, for what he continues to hope to achieve. when i see pics of these two locking eyes, there is an unspoken GOTCHA (and sinister bwhahahahaha) to those they want to diminish for the sake of those they don't (um, to clarify: they don't like you or me, but they do love them some pregnant welfare lifers). they say what they don't mean in order to throw most off their tracks. wool, meet eyes.
Change we can believe in, yuk…! Oh yeah, the Soviets can sniff out a wuss! But not to worry, Blithering Joe Biden told us Barry has a backbone of steel, all better now.
Rock on, Burt!
If I bumped into Michelle in a dark alley, she would scare the crap out of me.
Does she ever look straight at people? Most of the time, she appears to be peering at everyone as though she is looking through the upper lenses of contacts.
That "don't mess with me look" she sports constantly would spook a herd of goats.
I've seen how badly off the newspapers have become financially. They're becoming self-igniting. And with all they have done lately to destroy the country that nurtured them, I want to throw a party!
I think we all understand that we are in a propaganda war and they have all the weapons. Obama: Genius, Clinton: Genius, Gore: Genius, Carter: Genius. Ford: Idiot, Reagan: Idiot, Bush & Bush: Idiots. Grammy winners: Gore, Clinton, Obama, Al Franken. Rush? ha! Reagan? ha! So, of course, the Obama's are being sold as Matinee Idols.
The important thing to capitalize on (and I'm afraid we fail in that regard) is that for 8 years the Democrats screamed about Bush's big deficits, in the debates Obama sold the lower middle class in Ohio, Pennsylvannia and Florida that McCain would tax their health care and he stood for lower taxes.
The message needs to be repeated over and over on a loop. Bush's big deficits, Bushes Big deficits. And now…they LIED TO US. They took control so THEY COULD STEAL THE FUTURE FROM YOUR CHILDREN.
But…where is the next Gingrich?
http://www.alistz.net
"This has been the MO of the left to deify a politician…"
But conservatives need to be mindful and not do the same thing. Hannity tends to do the same thing with Reagan…he is constantly mentioning his name over and over.
The only president that deserves to be treated that way is Washington, and he would have been hesitant to accept such treatment.
Gingrich may need to be the next Gingrich, as the outspoken member representing conservatives. Rush was right when he said Steele needs to do the behind the scenes work and not worry about showing up on every TV show he can get on. As crazy as he is, a lot of the Denmocrats success is because of the groundwork that Dean did as DNC chair. Steele should look at that and try to beat them at their own game and let someone that appears comfortable speaking in public do the talking.
Remember what the philosopher, Agassi, said: "Image is everything".
Burt I enjoy your posts tremendously … I even have a quote of yours as my Facebook quote … keep up the inspiring work!!!
Oh absolutely I agree. To worship any politician right or left is beneath the dignity of any true American. I believe Washington needs to be cleaned out. The only difference between the 2 parties is by degree, they both love government. Perhaps term limits?
The truth does not matter when the message is style over substance. Plattitudes and pandering without any mention of the nasty nuts and bolts of how can we either pay for or afford such a thing. Democrat Argument "We are for educating the poor and affordable health care and the Republicans want to keep your children dumb and deny Americans health care."
We can counter with better plans point out how it will be impossible for America to afford Democrat Plan but it does not matter when we let the assumptiom stand. We need to counter with a more direct message. Democrats want to control your health. Democrats want to indoctrinate your children. We need to stay on message and not let the Democrats/Liberals define the debate. It is only this way can we take back the debate from the liberal spin.
Hilarious!
Well, we as voters can enforce our own term limits if they arent going to put them in place themselves. I won't be voting for any incumbents anytime soon and I encourage others to do the same.
Yeah this is a plan that’s been in creation by the radical 60’s left since I was a kid. I agree they are on target for their egalitarian utopia, as promised.
IMO Michelle is Not pretty at all,Notice that it appears the upper half of her face is pushed in,much like
Pat Benetar.Just my 2c, rock on Burt,
Bob
Agreed! However it’s only conservatives that punish their politicians. Leftist love their guys, it can mean a raise$$, don’t you know.
Good point, oldfeziwig. In their case, I'd say it's all they've got.
Amazing isn't it – that under Dean's expert tutelage(?) that the Dems have done so well. Maybe that, but more in focus – the message of the GOP has gotten as stale as that six month old box of Wheaties that lurks precariously at the bottom of the pantry. The image of a bunch of racist old while men, drinking martinis, smoking cigars, spanking the dolphin with painted ladies, gourging on lobster & filets and moaning about the gout has to go. We need an injection of vitality – we need to package the message so the 30 second sound byte holds water. And we need to this quickly.

I hear ya on Mrs. Obama. If she were a Republican, the DUmmies/Kos Kidz would call her a tranny and the media would castigate her attempt to cop Jackie Kennedy. But since she is a Democrat, she is a great beauty and fashion icon.
Burt Prelutsky -"Speaking of appearances, I can see the attraction of politics. In no other field, except perhaps for rock and roll, are so many homely people described as highly photogenic sex symbols"
One of your funnier lines. But Your Headline should be a guiding principle for anyone trying to sift through the nonsense on a daily basis.
I am so OVER this gushing "love affair" with the Obama's! Every cover of Michelle is beautifully airbrushed and perfect while the covers of Sarah Palin during the campaign were put out there to make her look bad. (They tried their best but didn't succeed.) And who can forget the tabloid covers with the smiling, happy Obama's and their "heartwarming" story, as opposed to the "scandal" of Sarah Palin and her dysfunctional family?
They are not leaders, they are celebrities, with all of the perks and excesses of any Hollywood star. Washington has turned into Hollywood and now they want their magazine covers, private jets and pricey dinners paid for by the American taxpayers. It's like the song in the musical "Chicago". Give 'em the old "Razzle Dazzle". Listen to the words and apply it to Washington, it's frightening how we have all been conned. Hopefully we all won't wake up to late to save our country.
It can be done in your local primaries and by letting your local RNC officials know that you want a new candidate representing you. Until we start to see some turnover in the party itself, the old image will remain.
Lets not forget the cycle, Americans were in a, “throw the bums out,” mood. I don’t necessarily believe it was as much Dean’s leadership as it was the economy, and the Republican candidate. I heard Bill Bennett say shortly after the election of the “Blessed One” if Republicans had resurrected Reagan we probably would have lost. Our message needs to be sharp, conservative, freedom loving, and easy for the passive voter to understand.
" It’s a Recovery when Obama loses his job. " From your lips to God's ears …
Hopefully, he will be a one termer just like Carter.
Yeh, what's all this fuss about Michell Obama? Has anyone seen any early photos of her? She's not at all attractive and with a drastic makeover she still isn't, she's scarier looking. Exposed shoulders my tucus, check out her back side, she couldn't hide that if she wanted to, it's the back side of a (charging rhinoceros). Exposed shoulders are a diversion. Ya know, the adulation showered on these ingrates, Barack and Michelle, by the MSM is nothing but an indication, in proportion to the amount of regret, manifested by journalistic misdirection that they have for greasing the skids for the Jackass and are feeling responsible for electing a narcissistic dud.
" And who can forget the tabloid covers with the smiling, happy Obama's and their "heartwarming" story, as opposed to the "scandal" of Sarah Palin and her dysfunctional family?"
Yes, it's SHOCKING that the family with the unwed knocked-up teenager was described as having a scandal, while the family that did not was not…
Another keeper. After reading the liberal drivel from one of my in-laws, this is medicine! Thank you.
Some Interesting quotes:
“Deepen, exacerbate existing problems, crises, differences, and if they don’t exist, create them or convincingly claim that they exist, and then deepen, exacerbate them…and profit the most from them in any way you can, and, in the resulting chaos, blame our enemies for the whole thing.” –
Vladimir Ilich Ulianov (Lenin)
"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."
Alexis de Toqueville
Now MovieBob a knocked up teenager is a blessing or should I say future Democrat constituent. The difference will be that the Palin’s will take care of their own as opposed to a future welfare brood mare. Teenagers are a pain in the ass this doesn’t stop with the parents politics.
MovieBob–Not fair to compare the Palins and the Obamas. The Obama kids are still at their cute ages. Just wait until they become teenagers. Only then will you be in a position to pass judgment, as I and every other parent knows all too well.
Regards, Burt
Of course there are moderate Taliban!
"Look, we don't want to raise the death rates on anyone, but tough political times have forced our hand. We're only going to raise the death rates for the top 2 percent of the living. They've lived well during the good political times, now it's time to "spread the death" around. The vast majority will not see their death rates go up at all under our plan."
Yup, moderates all over the place.
With the second Carter in the Whitehouse, “Liberal Barry,” perhaps Amy Carter would be a better comparison.
I think the problem with liberalism is that at it's core, it is a world view that looks to "better people" to take responsibility for running the liberal's life. Thus, they are prone to hero worship because they are looking for that "better person", the proverbial "daddy figure" (or "mommy figure") who will make all the tough decisions for them, and in a much better way than they themselves would have made those decisions.
This is why they idolize their leaders, because they view them as superior beings, i.e. modern superheroes or near religious figures. This is also why they have such hate for those who oppose their leaders — when you oppose their idol they see this as an attack on the very person they put all of their trust and faith into. It's like telling someone that their mother is wrong — the suggestion alone is viewed as an attack, no matter how carefully phrased.
(cont)
Moreover, when you idolize someone, you always overestimate their good traits and downplay their bad traits. That's why liberals always overstate the looks, intelligence, kindness, etc. of their heroes, and simultaneously ignore all their worst behaviors. That explains the points Burt makes about the obsession with looks.
Unfortunately, this also is why liberals never understand that their beliefs don't work. When they fail, it wasn't an error in the policy so much as the selection of the wrong leader. Rather than re-assess their beliefs, they just look for the next savior.
We cancelled out subscription to the paper. The bird died.
My favorite Obama quote (to date – we have a long way to go) was when talking about the stock market (which incidentally has plummeted to haf of what it was a year or so ago) – anyway B.O. talks about the "Profit Earnings Ratio" – which of course is nonsense. It is Price Earnings Ratio – had a Republican uttered this nonsense he'd he splattered in the news till hell freezes over…
This is the reason they seldom punish their representatives. These parasitic liberal bastards view a politician as a meal ticket, shameful.
Sir, a simple question. Can you please tell us how much time with "poor people" you spent in the last month and what your definition of "poor people" is. Oh, one last thing. With all this time you actually spent with "poor people", can you tell us what it was, exactly, that you did for and with them. Thank you.
The Republican party had better get thick skins and in a hurry. Don’t worry about name calling, allowing the left to define the discussion is a losing proposition. Espouse conservative, freedom loving ideals and we win.
Here is the thing though, and this article does focus on it. The Democrats control the media. They are able to use this propaganda machine to generate the image. Carter, Clinton, Obama have all been postulated as the next Camelot. They are smart, handsome, articulate, change. Say it enough and the rubes buy in. No republican is ever going to be presented that way. Ever. The Republicans succeed when they bring the real deal. Reagan was that. He was too beloved to be hated. Gingrich was that. He was too self-evidently intelligent to be presented as unintelligent. I look at the current crop of people and the only authentic guy is Guiliani, the guy is a hero – but he may have too much personal luggage. Jindal, Palin – nothing against them but I'm not impressed by them. Romney – flip/flop car salesman. I love David Dreier (i've heard rumours he is in the closet?) , and I think Congressman Ryan has a lot of potential.
Somebody needs to step up to the plate though
http://www.alistz.net
Here! Here! Well Said!
http:/www.alistz.net
Even the Taliban had a good laugh at Obama – "we have NO moderates". The first time in history conservatives and the Taliban uttered the same phrase, at the same time, only Obama could do that.
All I can assume is Obama plans on negotiating with the Taliban and our other enemies to only attack the US on months ending with Y and only then when Michelle is out spending our tax dollars on petty African dictators.
Once again the media missed the ball, Obama wasn't planning on getting a dog for the White House, in his case a teleprompter is a man's best friend.
Point of clarification before we respond. Do mean besides the huge tax dollars I paid to support welfare, food stamps, etc. last year? And can I count the 500 hours of pro bono work I did last year? And can I count the $15,000 I gave to charities last year?
By the way, how much time/money did you give to the poor?
Obama has the distinction of having spent in less then 100 days more money then was spent for all of WWII and the last 8 years of the War on Terror. My husband thought I could do damage with a credit card and a sale at Bloomies…..
I hate to quibble with Burt's otherwise on-the-money analysis and come to 'The One's' defense on anything, but the issue of "moderate Taliban" needs to be clarified.
My go-to guy on all issues military is Michael Yon at micaelyon-online.com . He supports the strategy of working with "moderate Taliban", as does General Petraeus. Acording to Michael, 'Taliban' in Afghanistan is used to identify all of the forces hostile to the coalition. This includes elements who are hostile to the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan, but who share no ideological truck with Al Quaeda or Shiek Omar's Taliban, who are closely allied with them.
Many of these forces can be convinced to work with coalition forces, just as similar Iraqi indigenous groups were convinced by the Surge strategy to throw in their lot with "The Ameriki tribe", whom they came to trust and respect. It was the key to our victory in Iraq.
It may well be that Obama does mean 'moderate' here in the same lint-brained fashion as the rest of the kool-aid drinkers, but we need to take care that we're not reflexively condemning him if he's actually taking a prudent step for reasons pragmatic or otherwise.
Hero worship of most any celebrity and politicians is truly silly and embarrasing to watch. I liked Reagan but simply saw him as a guy that held to his way of being; Got good results too.
How hard is that?
I think the problem with conservatives and libertarians is that we are in general, a self-reliant bunch. We don't look to others to save us or take care of us. Hence, we are not really gonna appeal to the unwashed masses.
Such is life.
Like most of you, I prefer not to pick on a woman's looks, but this fawning over the "beautiful" Michelle leaves us no choice but to respond. Let's face it, she's a horse of a woman. She resembles either (your pick) Chewbacca's sister (the Wookiee from Star Wars) or a Klingon Warrior. C'mon, is that underbite really attractive?
The hottest (and most natural) women in politics in the last few years is Sarah Palin – and she scares the hell out the liberal media because they know she is far superior to any of the pigs in the Democrat party!
I not sure of the point of this question? Are we supposed to help "poor people" as a matter of obligation, a matter of spiritual purity, or a matter of ego gratification.
How about it if we simply turned ourselves from poor to not poor. Does that count in the liberals handbook or not?
The mythical heights of the Kingfish will soon be shown as well, a myth. All the libs will need more medication to deal with the cruelty in life.
Such is life.
And they wrap the fish in EPA mandated food-grade wrap now.
If I owned a newspaper, I would be in a blind panic. I'd try to get he lefties and libs working there to buy me out…er;
Stupid statement. Disregard.
well said
Presidents are just the public face of the people who surround them. Policy is made and directed by all their many staff. It is all the Geitners and Clinton's and Gate's that make things happen. There is a whole new set of them now and the question is not if Obama has big ears, which is a silly comment, but how these people will respond to Putin putting long range bombers in Cuba or Kim launching a missile, or what happens to GM when China blocks US car sales there, or how many college educated software jobs are lost to India or — well you get it.
Putin and Europe and the rest hated Bush because they were afraid of what he and Cheney and Rumsfeld and his group might do. Are they afraid of Obama and Geitner? I feel safer when other countries dislike us and are afraid of us than when they love us and want to sit down and discuss things in a reasonable manner. That is my fault and I am out of step with the new world where America is liked again and Europe hold parades for out President.
I'm sorry, Burt, but I've stopped reading your articles after you proposed that we legalize crack-cocaine and heroine.
Hail to thee, blithe Michelle, bird thou never wert. Except possibly a turkey vulture. And hubby really was famous for being famous. She wrote racist screeds, sucked on the affirmative action public teat, then got hubby's friends to get her into a $50,000 dollar a year job that immediately became worth $300,000 a year. But at least she wrote something, which is more than we can say for hubby (ghostwriters don't count). So I'll have to be forgiven if I'm not mesmerized by the lovely Michelle's Green Bay Packer arms. What you are is more important than how you look (apologies to Billy Crystal). And what Michelle and her husband are can be summarized as Jeremiah Wright loving, America-hating, we're-smarter-than-you, crypto-fascist, big government loving, bread and circuses for the masses, half-assed socialists. But they look good at it.
I was having a get out of my head moment as I was reading this. I never understood why Jack Kennedy was supposed to be good looking any more than I got Clinton's appeal. They both have that bloated look that reminds me of an alcoholic uncle. Oddly though, when the Republicans have a good looking candidate like Sarah Palin, the candidate is somehow marginalized for being good looking. She's nothing more than an empty-headed Barbie… The fact is that the Left is just better at name calling which is how they frame most of their debates. I do think we need to frame our ideas better but I know the name calling on our side will never get to the level of the Leftist vitriol. We can't beat them at that game because most Conservatives I know don't habitually stoop to that level. They think it substance not style that matters but the masses do respond to style better…. How to combat that? How to get through the vast emptiness that is the average Liberal mind? I'm guessing we don't. I'm betting that we continue to work on the substance of the message, frame it in short, easy to understand sound bytes, and work on capturing the hearts of the moderates.
"My solution was that no lawyer would be allowed to sue a doctor if he had sued a medical practitioner, say, twice before and lost. That would at least prevent the worst sort of shyster from making a career out of chasing ambulances. "
Better still, put a CAP on how much a lawyer can earn in any ONE malpractice case; i.e. expenses plus $100,000.00 TOPS. Now they take 30 to 40 percent of the "settlement" plus expenses leaving the injured party only half of what his pain and suffering got him. Lawyers would howl, but it would stop malpractice form being a Lottery and spare us all the John Edwardses who made multi-millions by channeling a dead child and, at the same time, catapulted himself into politics. If he really cared about dead kids, and if he were really that good a lawyer, he'd have taken some malpractice cases pro bono having made a killing (excuse the pun) in that one case.
By the way, the "your comment is in moderation" is getting to me, especially when I take my time to comment only to find my non-vulgar, non-violent comment moderated into oblivion. If I were paranoid, I'd have to wonder if BH lured Dirty Harry and his followers over here to shut us all up.
If the web master is monitoring these messages, I would really appreciate your letting me know how come you purge non-violent, non-vulgar messages that do not attack other posters. You have my email
Term limits…yes! But in this sense: Limit the working "term" of Congress to a firm 6 month period, as was originally intended. Force our Senators and Representatives to spend the other 6 months living among their constituents and hearing from them everyday how they actually feel about the policies they thrust on us. And of course their pay will be cut by 50%. Question O-thority! I love you Lucy & Ellen!
We can all make jokes about Obama's incompetence in foreign policy, but it's getting scary, folks. The mice aren't roaring; they're throwing rocks! Obama responds by —
1. Speaking in Al JAzeera
2. Writing mash notes to Ahmadinejad (sorry, Barry, but Mad Ahmad rejected you).
3. Secret love notes to Russia. (Them, too)
4. Talking Turkey with Turkey (once a secular democracy but rapidly turning Islamic)
5. Dissing the Brits
6. Dissing Israel
7. 9 million to Hamas — oops, I mean Gaza
8. Palestinian scholarships. (Don't forget Atta and most of the other "enemy companions" had college degrees)
9. Russia putting planes in Venezuela and Cuba
10. China harassing US ships in international waters.
Obama and his supporters were busy poo-pooing the (incorrect) rumor that he was a secret Muslim, but they never denied his sympathy for Muslims.
Don't give up. They're working on it (you are working on it, aren't you Andrew?). Those of us who post here with some regularity have had the same experience multiple times. Ditto for "Your comment is too long. Try breaking it into smaller parts" despite the fact that the post immediately above or below is three times as long. It's a relatively new site, so they are still working out the bugs.
Tort reform is a long uphill battle. In California an attempt was made about twenty years ago. In order to cut down on frivolous lawsuits, the law was changed so that litigious plaintiffs' attorneys had to win at least the amount of the original claim or pay the defense's attorneys fees. Judges routinely ignored the new rule and even outright ruled against the defense motion for costs. Then jury verdicts went even crazier, and the rule became nearly meaningless. It's a mess.
Look at the pretty people everybody. Pay no attention to those Russian bombers circling……
Are the warships coming up the Mississippi yet?
Dean laid a lot of the groundwork that gave way to Hopey challenging republican majority in a lot of places across the country. As much as I hate to give him credit, I feel somewhat compelled to here. But my main point is that Steele needs to be doing the same thing. He can be most effective putting people in place all over, to do the grassroots work. Democrats wipe the floor with Republicans when it comes to grassroots work, which is why it is so easy for them to attach whatever stygma they want to the Republican Party
Well said
Liberals don't give to the poor. They just get other people to pay more taxes so they don't have to.
Bush's big deficits, Bush's Big deficits. And now…they LIED TO US. They took control so THEY COULD STEAL THE FUTURE FROM YOUR CHILDREN.
But…where is the next Gingrich?

Burt,
I ranted all over this Thursday: http://www.threedonia.com/archives/4604
p.s., First Lady is now on the cover of "O", with Oprah. You can pimp this woman from now until Doomsday, but that excess isn't going to get me any closer to liking her. Or forgiving what she said about Sarah Palin.
Shouldn't they voluntarily close their newspapers? They're killing defenseless trees!
Like Hillary, they just don't know when to throw in the towel.
All I have to say is, republicans suck
and they believe their own ignorant lies.
Oh, and Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot
If there are Moderate Taliban members, are there also moderate racists, moderate murders, moderate rapists? To suggest that some of them are moderates shows that they really do not understand what they are trying to accomplish.
Go away if you're not going to add anything intelligent to the discussion.
Oh, and Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot
As opposed to Liberal spokesperson Michael Moore who is so svelte and intelligent.
Stop everyone Enapes has spoken with his blistering intellect, all has been revealed, “Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot.” Wow, simply freaking brilliant. Back on your knees slave and bow to your Messiah, “The Magnificent Barry O.”
You, sir are impressing us with your nuanced point of view.
A**wipe!
BTW-When Putlin launches his first missle from the base in Cuba, will the media somehow attempt to pin that one on GWB? Likely.
We have to face facts though. After Gingrich, Armey, Graham, et al. left Congress, the current leadership really failed conservatives. I feel Boehner and McConnell have no credibility. They were running the government and they didn't try to control spending. Their failure enabled the Democrats to bamboozle the public into believing that they were the ones concerned about deficiit spending, and the Republicans were the profligate spenders.
What the Democrats know, is that once these behemoths are instituted, it becomes impossible to undo them. Remember, when Gingrich tried to slow the growth rates of programs, he was accused of wanting children to starve to death. These guys get that it's a propaganda game, and they control the media. It takes an extra-ordinary man like Reagan or Gingrich to stand tall and walk the walk.
Agreed. I loved Reagan, but I swear Hannity has a major man-crush. I worry his references don't go back any further than the first President he voted in office. Maybe he needs some downtime to read a few good books about Washington, and our Framers. I also will not watch him, he panders to those horse's ass libs he has on all the time. Pass.
Oh, and Bill Clinton wasn't sexy, has never been sexy, and the thought of a pervy, possible rapist, adulterer shouldn't be sexy to any woman, regardless of her political stripe. Ditto on Kennedy, except the possible rapist comment. I wasn't born then, so I don't know.
I agree, I don't think he's naive, either. Agenda, Agenda, Agenda, baby. Right on target. Talk the economy back up a little, soothe the savage beasts, then let it slide a little again when it's politically needed. Easy as pie. People are stupid.
Hmm, was my family still a "good" family when MY teenage daughter got pregnant??? Sure seemed to be, to me. I guess you would know better than I.
Of course, never let a crisis go to waste. Those of us who learned of those quotes above in school days, knew exactly what they meant, and they scared the Hell out of us, coming out of Rahm Emmaneul's mouth, Hillary's and of course, Obama's. As for Michelle's looks, I just don't bother looking, at either of them. Their kids are cute, though, for now. Nobody, not every Chelsea, could beat out Amy Carter in the homely child competition. She wins, as far back as I can remember. Funny how Chels and Amy got parodied on SNL, has anyone seen the Obama girls? Or are they still too young? I'm sure that's what it is. Look, I don't remember any Republicans running around touting Laura Bush's great beauty. She's an attractive woman, but, big deal. I personally never understood the fascination with Jackie, she sounded like a Stepford Wife when interviewed. And no great beauty, there, just average.
Can I play this? I will go toe to toe with any lib that wants on the issue of giving of themselves and their money. I do it, not for accolades, but because it is the right thing to do! Like I am sure most here do. It isn't the amount, (I gave when I was poor), It is the doing. Right, Andrew?
I comment rarely on blogs but just wanted to stop and say Great Content.
Almost all my work for my first two years of practice was pro bono. Then somebody told me "get the money up front." But that's ancient history. I tried, and usually succeeded in giving 10% of my income to my church, which spends most of its income on what we call "social ministries.". I spent innumerable hours as a hands-on officer of our Boys and Girls Club. As my practice grew, I spent some of my proudest hours as unpaid counsel for the County Rape Crisis Center and private unpaid counsel to Child Protective Services. Almost everyone involved in those groups were volunteers (which in those days meant "unpaid").
As my taxes have increased, my charitable contributions have necessarily decreased. Now, much of my income goes via taxes to pay "volunteers" who take twice as long to do half as much as we used to accomplish essentially for free. For us it was a moral imperative. For them, it's just a job. We got considerable soul-satisfaction from helping those who could not help themselves. Now "volunteers" demand more tax money because they are "underpaid," and people who are perfectly capable of helping themselves demand their "entitlements."
Congress cut back welfare in the 90's, and Bush cut our taxes, so for awhile I was able to increase my charitable giving. Now the Messiah is going to raise my taxes, and to add insult to injury he wants to eliminate many of the charitable deductions. The welfare culture will be back with a vengeance. "I know my rights" will once again replace "Can you give me a hand?" I am terribly saddened that the amount of time and money I will be able to contribute to help people truly in need will be grossly diminished so I can pay the taxes to support "poor people" who only have one big screen color TV in their public housing. Andrew, you have nothing to defend. You know that virtue is its own reward. DFTT
tosa 62–I am a poor person. Some people I know are wealthy, some are even poorer than I am. I don't pick my friends or associates based on their bank balance. Based on my vast experience, poor people are no better or worse than other people, they just have less money.
bola–If you stopped reading me because I called for an end to the stupid War on Drugs, what are you doing here? Doesn't that make you the equivalent of a party crasher? And in your heart of hearts, don't you think that's a ridiculous reason to stop reading me? If a friend says something you disagree with, do you stop talking to them? If so, you must be a liberal chowderhead.
Sincerely, Burt Prelutsky
You know Burt, in some circles what you said about Obama could be considered blasphemy. And there are no moderates in those circles. Need proof? Ask Jim Cramer.
SAHAAAAY IT SISTAAAAAHHHHHH! Oh… did I just primal scream that?
And I'm not a poor person, I'm just afraid that the next four years will put me into poverty. Nice play on Will Rogers "the rich are different" comment. My problem with defining poverty up is that it leaves America as the only place in the world where "poor" is defined as having a place to live, food to eat, emergency medical care, clothes on your back, schools for your kids, but no air-conditioning, less that two TVs, and less than two automobiles. Come to think of it, I AM poor.
I got the same reaction about decriminalizing drugs a couple of days ago on this site, though there was an amazing amount of agreement. Most understood that I wasn't advocating the use of cocaine and heroin and was merely offering possible alternatives to the costly, deadly, and unsuccessful "war on drugs." Some of my best friends are ultraliberals, and I haven't killed or exiled any of them so far. "bola" needs to grow up.
And yet, here you are posting comments on his article. If you disagree with him on something sing it out, but stalkerizing his message board? Gah… nonsense! You read him. Fessit!
Funny how the troll didn't come back once it was clear that we're not the Monty Burns stereotype isn't it? In my experience, conservatives give way more of their time and money to help others. Liberals just talk about it (except when they try to give my money to others).
That one retreated into its cave pretty fast. Maybe he was late for the welfare office.
That one retreated into its cave pretty fast. Maybe it was late for the welfare office.
Burt, I couldn't agree more about your health care idea of simple insurance with stackability. I disagree about loser pays. I think the key is, if you lose a legal case, you should really lose something. You should be ruined fiscally and your name made mud.
As someone who studies counter-insurgency warfare, I have to disagree with you on reaching out to the taliban(I'm a neolibertarian). COIN is about political solutions more than military action. The gov. of Afghanistan has to appear legit in the eyes of an overwhelming number of afghans and perhaps finding out if there are taliban who would stop fighting and join Karzai's(spelling?) government is part of the solution. How did the surge succeed? It was the Sunni awakening as much as anything. Focus on security and a place at the political table for everyone and you'll solve almost all insurgencies. All this being said, Obama should never have made it public, these things are best dealt with quietly(like most national security issues).
Thanks, LawhawkSF — "Don't give up. They're working on it (you are working on it, aren't you Andrew?)"
which was smaller and I guess a lot less complex.
Really is frustrating, however, this is a good site with interesting viewpoints. I've caught Breitbart on TV a few times and he is excellent and knows his stuff. I'm a camp follower from Dirty Harry's Place
I suspect tort reform is way down on the B. Obama, Esq. list. The bar funnels millions of dollars into Dem coffers and most of the House and Senate are attorneys. I'm curious, though, what happens to the lucrative malpractice business when/if the current administration manages to inflect Socialized medicine on us?
I believe in countries with NHServices, the payment for malpractice is a pittance since one is suing the government, not the miscreant doctor.
Yes you did, because you are fabulous.
you guys are something.
and you talk a lot but not one of you actually lived in Iraq and as such knows nothing about Taliban or Muslims.
and as i live in USA right now your talking about health reform even more hilarious.
and as i mentioned before there are no news or discussions only propaganda and you dont distinquish between something as simple as objective and subjective.
Newt has become a victim of Stockholm Syndrome. He, along with Frum, Noonan, Parker, Krauthammer, et al, has become a cheerleader for what is basically RINOism. It was over between Newt and me when he was making out with Nancy Pelosi on that loveseat and urging us to get on the Global Warming bandwagon. He's dead to me.
Lefties hated Reagan with a purple passion and didn't EVER give him a break. When he died and they saw how beloved a man he really was they decided to "revise" him and have been trying to adopt him as their own. Won't happen.
We weren't allowed to know what scandals there were about the Obamas. And his drug use–whatever it entailed–was glossed over and ignored.
And the Bush twins are very pretty women.
I agree with you completely and also think that it is because the Left decided that anything involving Judeo/Christian religion had to be killed. They then had to go find something/someone to worship. And look what they've got: Global Warming and Obama.
And Ronald Reagan was ALWAYS a good looking man. Probably our best looking President bar none but I didn't hear a word about it by the looks conscience lefties.
Whenever I read another slavish news story of the glamorous Michelle Obama, I can only think of the emperor's new clothes. She may be a fine person, but she is anything but glamorous. Halle Berry is glamorous, Beyonce is glamorous, Michelle Obama is not glamorous.
dang it, you took my joke.
Well done.
Jackie Kennedy is sleeveless in Camelot.
Michelle Obama is sleeveless in Blackalot.
Absolutely right. Most of the conservatives I know give to chairty, help others, etc., and none of them talk about it. They don't do it because the government tells them to or because some liberal professor told them to, they it because they believe it is right. And every one of them resents the liberals who want to seize their money and give it out in lieu of doing their own charity work.
When I was young, we were very, very poor. My dad was AF enlisted — earned almost nothing. My mother worked as a waitress. Yet, she still found time to volunteer to help out blind people because she thought it was the right thing to do. And it really annoys me to hear some liberal college kid who has never done anything except one or two days of forced/paid volunteering complain about how conservatives are heartless blah blah blah.
FYI- the new administration's cinematic working title is Barackalypse Now (i wish i could take credit for that one)
High five! (or fist pound!)
And now, let us pray — for "recovery." Great column!
I'd sub in David Brooks for Krauthammer. Aside from that – completely agree. I have been in another room from the TV and heard Frum on TV and thought "that SOUNDS like Frum, but it could not BE Frum" That was 7-8 months ago. Maybe a year. I have noticed he wants to drop anything that has a whiff of integrity associated with it.
I cannot even type the two women's names. Ill feeling. will. pass.
lol!!
Man, you don't want the UK national health service over here, believe me. I lived there for eight years, and the horror stories!! From my friends, too. And once you're over 60 or so, forget any kind of reasonable care.
Enapes is a big fat idiot – just admit it, why don't you?
Really? So, you're okay with a surgeon who is stoned operating on you or a pilot who is stoned piloting your plane? That's fine and dandy then?
Yes, just like it would be fine and dandy for them to be drunk. You apparently missed the lengthy post I did a couple of days ago discussing exactly this subject. Booze is perfectly legal. But being under the influence is not only illegal for pilots and doctors while performing their duties, it's illegal for anyone driving an automobile. Anyone who would cheat on those rules would likely do so whether their drug of choice is legal or not.
This country needs a Celebrity windfall tax. That will quiet them.
"Common Sense" should be mandatory reading by all members of congress, on a regular basis. Display it on a computer, with a biometric eye scanner to detect eye movement to confirm without a doubt that the entire pamphlet was read. Make congressmen do it once a month, every month, for as long as they serve.
So, it's okay to even have more drugs to be out on the market, making them more addictive?? Plus marijuana is commonly known as a "gateway" drug (excuse me if you don't know that term, but it helps to hook people into harder drugs like heroin). Missing your "lengthy post" doesn't mean I missed what you meant – that you think marijuana should be legal. Talking down to people and being patronizing doesn't really help your argument, by the way
OK. One last time. I did NOT say I thought marijuana should be made legal. I explained at length that we needed to look at alternatives for the war on drugs, and made it very clear that I do NOT claim to have the solution. I posed questions, I did not reach any conclusions (except for believing that the war on drugs is an utter disaster). You start your posts with "So it's OK to . . . ." and then proceed to put words in my mouth. I am fully aware of what a gateway drug is, and alcohol is the biggest gateway drug of all (ask anyone in AA or drug programs). And finally, I neither talked down to you nor patronized you. I merely responded to sarcasm with an equal level of sarcasm. I wasn't even necessarily disagreeing with you.
[...] From Burt Prelutsky over at BIG HOLLYWOOD: …the left-wing media is now trying to convince us (Michelle Obama) has all the allure, glamour and fashion sense of Jackie Kennedy. I have even heard her upper arms described in the sort of language Wordsworth devoted to flowers in the morning dew and that Keats lavished on nightingales. Frankly, if I were Mrs. Obama and the geeks started rhapsodizing about my triceps, I might consider wearing sleeves. [...]
