The Common Sense of Rush Limbaugh
by Brian T. KennedyFor all those critics on the right who find it so fashionable to oppose Rush Limbaugh, they would be hard pressed to challenge his political analysis which, day in and day out, is as sound and thoughtful as any conservative writing today.
In 2005, I had the pleasure of giving Rush Limbaugh the Claremont Institute’s Statesmanship Award. We gave him a bust of Sir Winston Churchill, somewhat more handsome than the one Mr. Obama strangely sent back to the British government recently.
The negative media onslaught Rush is getting right now is almost unprecedented. Thankfully, he is more than up to the task of dealing with the elite media.
For all the talk by James Carville and others over Rush’s negatives among voters—almost certainly Democratic voters—they misunderstand Rush’s essential app
eal: he presents a tremendous amount of common sense to the American people. He does so with candor and good cheer. This is what drives the left crazy.
Today on his show he stated rather simply what must be the guide for conservatives this year, next year, and always, “If we remember our first principles, good policies will write themselves.” For Rush, as for the Claremont Institute, those principles are to be found in the Declaration of Independence and the writings of our Founding Fathers.
To be sure, there is not unanimity among conservatives on these first principles and almost complete rejection on the political left. But in these dark times it is only with these principles that we will recover our way.

Rush delivers the conservative message with passion and without apology. Simply brilliant, and it’s driving the parasitic leftist crazy. Keep it coming Rush!
Rush has been labeled the Leader of the Republican Party. Indeed, he is. As a regular 9 to 5 worker, I feel as if my voice, along with the voices of my conservative friends, family and co-workers, is not being heard, but my voice IS being heard through Rush Limbaugh. I'm so thankful that he is getting the attention that he is. If only our elected "conservatives" would follow his lead, we would sweep the floor with the liberals in 2010.
Rush Limbaugh may not be the leader of the Republican Party (which I wish he was), but he is the leader of the Conservative movement which i am proudly apart of. Go get them Rush!
The common sense, the character, the roots, and the hard work of Rush Limbaugh. This man deserves his enormous audience, his obvious influence, and we're fools if we neglect him. The same guy that put Paula Jones in his sights years ago, to the country's embarassment, has been thrown out yet. That he remains speaks volumes of the new administration.
I heard the bust of Churchill that was returned by the Jomo Kenyatta fan in the WH is still in the British Embassy. They can't find anyone in England that recognizes it !
Ever notice how the libs try to minimize the Rush audience? 20-22 million? Nah, they say, more like "12 million" with no data to back that up. Actually, his listening audience is but a fraction of his fans. Out of all the conservatives I know (hundreds) only a handful actually get to listen to Rush on a daily or weekly basis, because the rest of us are all working hard at jobs where you can't listen to the radio. We're on the phone, in meetings, or just plain in offices where there are no radios. My company, for example has banned internet video and radio because of the bandwidth it sucks up. (people trying to tune in to the EIB network!) We all watched his CPAC speech afterward, on-line. The whole thing. And we were inspired. We all talked about it on monday, and spread the word. The Obama/Carville/Rahm axis of weasel is only awakening the sleeping giant of conservative America. The 2010 campaign starts now.
Nothing strange about Obama returning the Churchill bust. The Brits aren't very popular in a household where the memories of colonialism appear to be as immediate as the need to appease the Iranians. Michelle has been accused in the British press of snubbing the PM, her husband of returning the bust. I imagine that Jomo Kenyatta is a much bigger figure in that family than WInston Churchill. Saving Western Civilization is just the opposite of accomplishment in some people's eyes. I bet Rush would debate the First Lady.
I"m not trying to tell you what to think, but I think it's more accurate to say he's a leader among Conservatives. Conservatives are just like-minded folks in no specific organization. The Republican Party is a party that fields politicians.
It's quite obvious the Republican Party is not led by Rush.
Leftists are cruel, vindictive robots. They have no ideas.
I admire greatly Rush Limbaugh's ability to teach. He'll engage the most ignorant liberal on his radio show and gently, cheerfully, thoughtfully question them about their beliefs. I've heard many callers describe how they were liberals because they were "supposed" to be liberals, and then they started listening to Rush.
To single out Rush means that many many more Americans will tune in to see what the fuss is about. Thus we see many conservatives being born from what the White House is doing. They are Elmer Fudd to Rush's Bugs Bunny.
Whenever I hear somebody putting down Rush Limbaugh I simply ask "have you ever listened to more than five minutes of his show?" and the answer is always the same…. "No….." . If you think Rush is a racist….. you have never listened to his show! If you think he is spewing hate…..you have never listened to his show! My advice to anyone is to pour yourself a nice cup of coffee (or tea, with your pinky pointing up, for our liberal friends) and listen to his CPAC speech openly and honestly. And then we can talk. Oh and another reason liberals don't like RUSH is because they are so paralyzed with political correctness that they have no sense of humor left. Come on…the pinky thing is funny and true and you know it!
I am most amused when liberals take Rush's satire literally. It's flabbergasting that they don't get satirical nuances. Sad, really.
Huh?
I'm thinking it, Rush says it. He is our Conservative voice and we need him now more than ever.
Liberals have lost their senses of humor which is why Air America does not work.
But Vince…….if not for The Conservative Movement – what hopes do the Republicans have or ever had? Perhaps the new under rumblings of Blue Dog Democrats? The Republicans live AND die by Conservative Principals. It is the unhealthy status of the RNC that has been born out of their abandonment of those principals in the last few elections.
For everyone who is confused and mystified about why the Republlican Party is in such a bad way…….the party of Lincoln and Reagan is going through withdrawals of an addiction to Moderation and pandering to Liberal/Popular ideas about "warm fuzzies" – these are not Conservative.
Accountability is long overdue – once we get through the DT's…..we'll be stronger and better….we have the technology…..(h/t Steve Austin)
I'm just a little person. I go to work, I pay my taxes, I go to church, I try to do right. I guess that makes me the object of condesention to the folks in DC and on the east and west coast enclaves of importance.
Rush articulates what I feel and does so in a very entertaining manner.
I think it's an incredible sign of weakness that the Obama administration is attacking Rush Limbaugh. Do they even realize how weak it makes them look? If they think they're distracting us from their shenanigans with all of this they're crazy. And to choose the one conservative who is best equipped to think on his feet and give them hell just cracks me up. Nice move.
I don't even listen to Rush Limbaugh but it gives me great pleasure to know he haunts their dreams as the quintessential conservative boogeyman.
Exactly! I think it's key that people realize that not all Republicans are Conservatives (I mean YOU, McCain, Snowe, etc.). Rush's priorities are to Conservativism, not Republicanism. For that matter, so are mine.
What angers the left more than anything else about Rush is that he is right. They're so deluded by their hatred of anything that smacks of convention (morality, common sense, parenting, etc.) that they mock and ridicule it. What's amusingly ironic is that the left is the self-proclaimed side of tolerance and acceptance.
The left has their Messiah. We have the truth detector known as Rush Limbaugh.
Rush is a good man and let me explain why I know this: I was listening one day and a lady called into him saying that her husband needed a new vehical for his business and they didn't have the cash. It was just a passing issue because she was talking about business credit and the problems small business' are facing. Rush out of the blue with no prompting told her he would buy her a new vehical. Whatever they wanted from the GM line. I believe the lady chose teh truck. But Rush did this out of the goodness of his heart. She didn't ask him, she never said a word about need. He just bought the couple a truck. Now to me that was the height of generosity. Rush has done so much for charity and military charitys especially that when I see him being demonized by the minions of Rahm Dead Fish Emmanuel, James Angry Muppet Carville, and Paul no personality Begala, it chaffs my butt. .
Rush is a badass. And I am totally onboard for anything that bunches the lefties collective panties.
Not to be a wet blanket, but this article was a wee bit weak and self-promotional, especially given the depth of discussion about Rush that we've been having in the last five or six days. How about pointing out who on the right is attacking Rush and what their reasons are — and why those reasons are not good reasons.
Personally, I think most of the current criticisms from "the right" are political in nature – people who don't despise the conservative wing of the party and who have repeatedly demonstrated disloyalty to the party.
On the other hand, I love Rush, but I know he's not perfect. I also know that while he is a fantastic voice for conservativism and I wish the party would listen to him and make better use of his talents, I firmly believe that he can't be THE voice of the party or THE leader of the party. I also think there are a handful of criticism that are fair against Rush — as there are against anyone, and that voicing those does not make one disloyal.
Very true. The liberal bus backed up over their sense of humor, right after it ran down their sanity.
The Washington Post noted that Rush's ratings have doubled since the Obamanites started attacking him. Doubled. That piques my interest. I've never listened to Rush before — I don't listen to radio — but I think I'll start now.
Precisely. Especially since England dropped him from the History books.
The problem is that at a time when every major outlet is against Conservative Principals the need for other to dog pile on a single person who has shown lack of fear to defend those principals is unbelievable – it's as if it's a fad to bash a Conservative, Christian, white person, male, heterosexual etc………I may have differences in a few things he says, but have no need to "Not be a wet blanket" just for talking sake……
There are more than enough self loving outlets taking shots at what seems to be the last speaker for a majority of my beliefs.
I myself will keep my wet blanket folded up for awhile…….
"Whenever I hear somebody putting down Rush Limbaugh I simply ask "have you ever listened to more than five minutes of his show?" and the answer is always the same…. "No….."
Hollycon…pretty funny and not unusual. I was at a christmas party a few years back, O'reilly's name came up and a lady said she didn't like him. After a 5-10 minute conversation, she still hadn't explained why.
The reinvention of facts and history is nothing new on the precincts of the left. It is a tactic that has been used for centuries. The aplomb with which the likes of MSNBC-ers, et al. use it would make Goebbels and the Ministry of Propoganda proud. And I do not invoke those names to be snarky. It works so well because most folks are too lazy to check things out for themselves. So as much as I can, on FB or here at BH and other places, I will both state the actual truth or history, and give a link to a source. And I urge others to do the same. Yes it takes a bit of effort and time, but if more and more people do it, more and more people will be exposed to the truth and take less stock in what the drive-by media says. It will take a lot of work to oppose what's happening in our country. Folks with small voices -us- have to do our share of that work. We've gotta add what we can to the efforts of Rush, Sowell, Malkin, Charen, Nat. Review, and, well you know the list. It really is our patriotic duty friends.
Does everyone have amnesia? The attack on Rush and talk radio is a repeat of the early days of the Clinton Administration. Seems no one remember that, at least in the MSM. With so many retreads of the Clinton Administration in the White House why would anyone expect any change from the previous MO? And as before the tactic will backfire.
I liked the article because it didn't coddle Rush the way a lot of people have been. Rush can handle whatever comes his way, which is what I took away from the article, even among the self promotion.
Well then,…… judging from the tenor and common thread of the majority of the prior comments, …….is it not time for the explosion of the new 3rd party?! Simply stated; THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY!!!!
I don't know where you people get off thinking you have the lock on what is best for this country. You certainly haven't shown it to be so during the past 8 years, and definitely since Ronnie Raygun began destroying the middle class. I'm drinking a toast to Limburger every day because he is ruining what is left of your 'party'.
LOL!! I don't even know what the 82p means??
The best explanation for his attack on Rush is that Hopey doesn't want to have a discussion on the real issues at hand, so he distracts Americans with something that has little impact on their lives.
Amen. I love Rush. When I was a kid, sitting in with my Dad as he ran errands for our small family business, I used to get so frustrated with Rush's delivery style. My Dad would always tell me "Just wait – you'll love him within a year." And he was right. I've come to admire his swagger and ability to rile the Libby masses.
President Obama and the Dems are about to embark on the most ambitious game of three-card monte in American history. Their goal is simple – A massive expansion of government power into almost every area of private life. Somewhere down the road we might just notice that this agenda will involve serious curtailments of our economic and social liberties. That's where the attacks on Messr. Limbaugh come in. The Dems are making him the feint, the distration and the blonde in fishnet stockings who drawns your attention from the sleight-of-hand at the table. Rush has been the go-to guy for lefty hatred for so long he's a natural for the role. We can be sure that the Left's MSM shills will do everything possible to inflate Rush's presence far beyond what it actually is. Their purpose to divert the attention of moderates from the Dems goal of transforming the U.S. into a Euroweenie social democrat state. Hopefully Rush will realize this and not play the game according to their rules.
AP, I agree with what you say about the criticisms from "the right". But I think what we conservatives have got to do, is follow the example of WFB in the late 50's. With reason, logic, and intellect, he went about purging the John Birchers, anti-semites, and other kooks from the conservative movement. Now I'm not calling for a purge of RINO's or "moderates" (many times a distinction without difference), but we do need to make our arguments, clear, forceful, and constant that the RINO way is one opposed to our principles, and will not gain us electoral success. And do this completely devoid of invective. As much as I would like to buy billboard space nationwide to express my thoughts about K. Parker, it is better to just dismantle their arguments intellectually.
It's awful here in Minnesota…every Republican but Michelle Bachman is a RINO.
Bluejade, listen to rush ONLY if you truly want to start living your dream and taking advantage of the unlimited opportunity this country still offers.
I think that means 82 people have clicked the thumbs up on yoru comments….here's one more
I think that means 82 people have clicked the thumbs up on your comments….here's one more
Ronnie Raygun ! Hilarious, CRAPFan ! Why I haven't heard that term of opprobrium since freshman year at Berkeley. (No, really, I went to Berkeley.) How clever we all thought it was, back when we were seventeen and horsing around in the bathroom at the co-ed dorm. (Norton Hall, to be precise.) I think someone even wrote it on the wall by the elevator. Ah, good times, good times. I want to thank CRAPFan, for bringing a tear of grateful nostalgia to my eye.
The last 8 years had nothing to do with conservatism…Bush was pretty "progressive"
The government became everything but small and limited during his two terms. Your President Hopey is just expanding on the exact same things Bush did, so all we're getting is the last 8 years times two under our new two-faced lying POS.
And that is why the Republican Party is in such disarray. The real Republicans – the conservatives who adhere to the platform – have been pushed aside for the likes of moderates or RINOs. Do you think that RINOs Snowe and Collins have such a great reputation with their party back in their home state? No. They don't care because they still have the Democrats who will vote for them. That, vince, is a prime example of why the party is in trouble. In Maine, right now, there is a grassroots movement of conservative – ie true – Republicans. You have no trouble spotting a Democrat a mile away because they have a swarm mentality. You can't tell a RINO from a right-leaning Democrat. Make no mistake, with the advent of the Messiah, the Rush attack, the WH making fun of conservatives' concerns, perhaps now the conservative Republicans will be solidified and organized. And I intend to be part of it.
[...] Big Hollywood showing once again why it has become one of the indispensable go-to blogs every day. Picking a fight with Rush Limbaugh is just dumb, but I’m enjoying the bar fight. In fact, I’m reminded of the popular coffee mug/T-shirt/bumper sticker slogan which was once ubiquitous in the area around Fort Bragg: “This is one town where you don’t pick a bar fight.” Category: Uncategorized | Comment (RSS) | Trackback [...]
I think this goes to the current debate – "the need for a new cover on the book that is the Republican Party"
What you have described Dom is good for internal debates for those of us who are not affraid of reality. The problem is that there are many who feel we need to repackage the party to gain market share – pure and simple.
The problem with that is it becomes marketing and that is transparent and vulnerable to opposition spin. The basics…….MOST EVERYONE lives by or has lived by basic conservative principals. Young kids, college students, minorities, whatever….when they set aside the popular acts of Liberal free for all…..they would be the first to admit that they don't appreciate those views and actions in their own lives. The basic practice of accountability is something that everyone understands to their core. My belief is that the party is making the message to medicinal and contrived at times.
Who destroyed the middle class? I suppose you give Jimmie Carter a pass. High interest rates and unemployment are great for the middel class, right?
L4L-
Really. Thought Coleman had some spine…he's a rino?
That's a shame.
The problem with attacking Rush is that it's a poor distraction. Rush leads us right back to exposing what is actually going in with the administration and what it's trying to do to our country right under our nose. In trying to distract us, those who tune in to Rush to see what the fuss is about are actually finding out more and more about all the sneaky little things that they're trying to do … like sneaking in the 2nd installment of socialized health care in a bedget adjustment provision to the budget so that it 1.) only needs 50 votes to pass and 2.) cannot be filibustered.
Tim K.-
after close to two weeks of reading and hearing about this bizarro world exercise in smear and propaganda by Captain Naught's minions, you are the first- FIRST- person to make this brilliantly simple observation.
Thank you.
Now take the rest of the week off with double pay.
Bluejade,
I hadn't either, until last summer when I was making a five hour commute on a regular (not daily, thank goodness) basis; I put headphones on the kids, and cranked him up. Wonderful, common sense—and humility, despite what one might think. Now I have listened, and can defend the man who I have come to admire.
Visit his website for his response to Obama—invites him to debate, and Rush and EIB will pick up the tab, and include more of the $100 steaks Obama was eating while people freezed and were without power in Ohio and northern Kentucky—but he warned us that he did not care about the suburbs…..
Listen, and enjoy!
CS, I see this as two different issues. There is determining what the party stands for and there is selling it. I think we stink at both right now. I don't think that most Republicans know what the party stands for, and thus they fight over minor differences — this is egged on by the RINOs (who I distinguish from "moderates" in that the RINOs repeatedly betray the party and support the other side), who simply don't like the people they meet in the party. As Dom says, we need to lay out intellectually what our principles are and why they are superior to liberal principles.
(cont)
When it comes to selling the party, the problem is that we have very poor marketing. We are playing the 1950s game of politics in the modern world. Also, we have let the left define us as a bunch of old, white guys. If you asked your average college kid, they would be surprised to find out that the party has women and minorities in it.
We need to modernize, we need to find more diverse conservative voices (guys like Bobby Jindal), we need minority outreach, we need cultural outreach (Big Hollywood), and we need to embrace the idea that a party must constantly sell itself to the public.
As I thought about my tounge in cheek comment – I'm sending letters to my representatives…..
I need a thumb click bailout.
KOFreak, Ronny rescued the middle class from Jimmy. Remember 22% interest rates gas lines and turn down the thermometer! LBJ with the great society killed the middle class and probable JFK. Besides we do not even know if BO is even a USA citizen? Take another sip of the Koolade, maybe you will snap out of your stupor !!
Give it six weeks, so you can tell the hyperbole from the truthful items. Remember, he has to entertain people to get them to listen to the message.
Rush does have his share of flaws and blind spots. He's not perfect, but I do agree that the pressure to appear popular and liked does tend to lead people to want to criticize him and other strong-willed and forthright people who are able to take the criticisms and pressure and believe and say what the really mean without fear of reprisal. It's a brand of courage few possess when their views are unpopular in their arena.
I like to think to I have half that much courage, and it's incredibly disheartening to know that I may have alienated a friend the other night in a debate about socialized healthcare and whether or not it's a right. Even though I have a chronic condition that's costly, I don't believe it is, and I firmly believe that it's my responsibility to handle my care. And I also believe socialized care is not the answer to our ills. It's an incredibly unpopular position to take, and the pressure to cave is immense, particularly when you know the people on the other side. I can see where so many who are nominally on our side give in to keep the peace.
Exactly, it's like tricking people into opening their eyes! Thank you President Baracalypse!
L4L:
Exactly right.
Bread and Circus.
Or, the more appropriate phrase for the drooling obot horde-
Shiny objects.
He's a politician that greases whatever palms he needs to. He still has some goodwill with people here since he completely overhauled St. Paul when he was the mayor and brought hockey back. If anyone other than Franken would have run against Coleman, they would have beaten him easily.
YOU DON'T LIKE YELLING?
HA!
Agreed.
I think we need to make it clear to the moderates that their place is not in the leadership. They came into our Big Tent built by Reagan and not the other way around. They look down their noses at us, the little people, but we are the ones who gave them their votes and their victories, and they really do need to look at us and what we want and how we live.
Moderation is all well and good, but it isn't the thing that raised that Tent to begin with. Conservative principles are the things that most people live by whether they self-identify with those principles or not. We need someone who can articulate that reality. I think Palin was able to do that better than many people realized. If the media hasn't tarnished her too badly, she might be a successful part of the next ticket as VP.
Do you remember the day he came out and endorsed Bill Clinton? You could hear callers' blood pressure going through the roof. If he'd waited another minute to tell everyone he was kidding, I think there would have been a riot outside the EIB building.
Sadly, Michael Steele is not the guy. Jindal is great but he came off really fake in that last speech. Palin is starting to look like she likes the camera a little too much. I think Republicans need to find someone to come completely out of left field, which is what the Dems did with Hopey.
It's a bit more than "times two", L4L.
As Rove pointed out in his WSJ editorial the other day about the "bait and switch President", Obie wan the dopey has spent more money in less than two months than Bush did in his entire 8 years.
KOFan-
Based on your uh, "naive" comments about Reagan and the middle class it is obvious you are ignorant of Carter (among countless other things) and his 4 yr. reign of staggering buffoonery and mismanagement.
But not to worry- the stuttering jackass currently in the oval office will afford you the opportunity to experience all the misery of the Carter years- only moreso.
Much, much moreso.
Welcome back, Cahduh.
Nice, AP.
please not to forget- alternate day gas lines.

click – LOL!
I've spent the past 20 plus years listening to Rush, and passionately screaming into the radio, "YES, YES, YES!"
Actually Latino you would be wrong in that. I heard Steele on the radio today and he was echoing Rush. You should have heard him filling in for Bill Bennett. I nearly passed out. He went after Obama to. Like hammer and tongs. So, give Steele a break. He has some kick in his feet.
Yeah KOFan – our records are abismal compared to your War Mongering records. you sure told us…..
WW I – Democrat President – draft
WW II – Democrat President – draft
Korea – Democrat President – draft
Vietnam – Democrat President – draft
Iran Hostages, Bosnia, Somalia – Democrat Presidents
And there are many other examples of your records on racism, socialism, etc.
Actually here's a simple google result that covers some of it and can save us all time…
http://www.urbin.net/EWW/polyticks/democrats.html
Yeh gad, I had forgotten about that. Oh this going to be fun. We certainly live in interesting times.
Can I say something? Rush is right…
Yes, aharris, absolutley right. The RINO's/Mods do need to be told they are not in a place to hold leadership in the party. Maybe when a few candidates who extoll "moderation" actually win some national elections, they can make a better argument as to why their views should be preeminent. Just because a RINO can win a senate seat (or two) in Maine or any blue state, that doesn't say to me that the RINO ideas could be the way forward.
Exactly! Rush actually doesn't have a great love or repect for the Republican Party as it stands today. I can't blame him. If they did listen to him, and act on Conservative principles, they wouldn't have gotten their rears handed to them at the last 2 elections. The only people who like "Dem-lite" is the squishy middle. And they bend whichever way the wind blows.
I know personally that Rush is a good man. I have told this story quite a few times around the net. My father was one of the "guinea pigs" way back when for the cochlear implant, the one that Rush wears, and Rush was at a medical conference/dinner/thank you kind of event not too long after he got his implant. My dad got an award for his contribution. Rush came over to say thank you to my dad, spent some time with him, crouched down on his haunches, so he could be face to face with my dad. He was extremely kind to me, also. We ended up talking to him for an hour or two, he was the most humble person! We ran into him on one more occasion, at a clinic opening for his doctor, and Rush had donated a good bit of money to the clinic. It was my dad's b'day, and I told Rush. He said HB to my dad, and I thought nothing more of it. THE VERY NEXT DAY, a very nice gift showed up at my 73 y o dad's house. He was, of course, thrilled. That's been a few years. Every Christmas my dad gets a gift from Rush, and every birthday. Included in the birthday gift is always a handwritten personal letter.
I doubt they count as BH dollars, but to be on the safe side……………….;-)
Anyone who uses ad hominem attacks and eploys such things as "Ronnie Raygun," should always be considered a child, regardless of their age. Definately seen, but not heard..
People who listen to Rush Limbaugh are called "dittoheads". That underscores the lack of objective critical thinking skills of his followers. This is one America. Rush Limbaugh created Operation Chaos. The sole purpose of Operation Chaos was to negate a valid vote of another American. It actually took place in the Indiana primary. Many people have died for that right…one person one vote. His words are just words to those who understand but his actions were intention to negate the vote of another American and it was accomplished. Wisdom is proven right by all her children. Blaming the current administration for the disastrous "leadership by committee" of the past 8 years and the skeletons falling out of the closet is like blaming the firefighters for 911.
Hey, I came from Carter's state, and even living there, we didn't get cut any slack. We not only had alternating gas days, most of the time we sat for 2-3 hrs in lines and then when we got to the front of the line, more times than not, they were out of gas! So, yeah, I remember. I remember it all too well. I think some people, (children), either didn't live through Carter, or were in some dream world of liberal living they didn't mind there were no jobs, money and it was impossible to buy a house unless you had 23% interest, or more, and a chunk of case down.
Rush is a great entertainer and, as reflected in the numerous postings above, he is wildly popular with Conservative Base. But, if he's the Repub "spokesman" that won't be nearly enough to unseat the Dems from power anytime in the foreseeable future. In fact, the Dems (i.e. Rahm) understand the lessons taught by Karl Rove that you don't need to get 80% approval ratings, you just need about 55% across the board and you're in the driver seat… Sure, dump Collins and Snow off the Repub truck because they're not True Believers but don't think that Dems won't fill those slots. Remember Chaffee in Rhode Island? Conservatives hated him and now he's gone. But when will RI ever elect a Repub Senator again? Maybe in the year 2525…
As a businessman Rush is sitting pretty with all the attention coming his way. But what's good for Rush isn't necessarily good for Repubs. Maybe he won't admit it, but K Rove knows it.
Actually, dittohead refers to a phenomenon of talk radio. You see when people call in to talk to Rush (or really any talk show host) there's a little ritual at the beginning where the caller says how much they love the host, etc etc. It gets very repetitive after awhile for everyone.
Well one day one of the callers went on and on and on and on about how much they loved Rush. The next caller was a spunky grandma type, and when she came on, she said, "Well dittos to what that last guy said but let me get to my point.." Rush was tickled, the other callers loved it, and "Dittos" was born.
Studies have shown that Rush's audience is the best educated in media. You should do yourself a favor and become part of it! Its certainly more rewarding than being a lefty troll on right wing sites!
You are so right. We "dittoheads" are completely brainwashed. Rush somehow reached out a radio, made us turn it on, seek him out by forcing us to turn a dial until it settled on him, then he further compelled us to listen to him for the several days or even weeks it takes to fully understand what he's saying and how he says it.
As opposed to the daily saturation of the regular media outlets blaring at you out of every other media: big three TV stations, print, etc. You are bathed in that message 24/7 without even trying.
I wonder which takes more freedom of will and critical thinking to absorb and assimilate? The message you must actively seek of your own free will or the one passively piped into your brain?
I think I heard Andrew say, that the winner gets one of those Slim Pickens survival kits from Dr. Stranglove, except instead of a Roosky Translation guide, you get the Alensky, Obama, Ayers literary collections and two barf bags.."
But he didn't echo Rush when he was on DL Hughly's show (how does he get a show?), and that may be where he got the most exposure to the other side. I had hopes for Steele but so far he hasn't lived up to them. Maybe he can turn it around. That's good that he goes after Hopey, but he needs to do it on liberal shows like Hughly's show as much as he does when speaking to a mostly conservative audience.
So when are you going to run for office, L4L?
I give up. He was filling in for Bennett and he sounded like Rush. I did not see Hugely's show and won't so I don't know all that was about however he also apologized to Rush. What do you want? Reagan is passed away. He wouldn't want us carping. Lock and load. Stop whining. You want the left to win? Steady as she goes. And stop worrying about Steele. He heard us. OK?
Cry me a river. We did to the Dems what they've been doing to us for years. Boo hooo hoooo.
Never in this communist state? Only here do people vote for the Democrat that promises tax cuts, and on the same ballot we vote to increase our state sales tax.
We can only thank God that we have him(thats right I said It).. Hes the only one standing up for the people against this half brained socialist insurgency..As for intellect hes got more smarts that the whole political establishment. This is what drives them crazy. Love live Rush Limbaugh and all people willing to make themselves a target to keep our America Free.
I'm just saying that conservatives are capable of doing a better job at marketing the party, but aren't doing it right now. I'm HOPING for just a little CHANGE
The Message comes first, the Media comes second. When I hear cries for hyperpartisanship, or 'lets just focus on the tech', I get suspicious because that tends to be code for 'you conservatives shut up for now' which will turn into no jam today, but jam yesterday and jam tommorrow. Right now is the ideal time to rearrange the chairs in the Republican Party and put across the board conservatives in the lead chairs where they should be. And I think that True Cons would in general be better at tech too….for one reason, they'd have respect for the techies.
Its seems to be a core RINO value to sneer at others, but thats not a Conservative value. Conservatives respect other humans, and talent. And they have an understanding of how hard things are, and how everyone needs to work to get the good things accomplished.
I think that it could be very good for culture projects if True Cons got in charge of the GOP. And then the culture projects could be very good for the GOP, and we'd end up creating a virtuous circle.
I agree wiht you that the Republican Party needs its conservatives.. or else who needs it? But there is a big difference between a political party and an ideological movement.
Take right now for instance.. you see every Leftist with their full-on rage:chanting "Conservative ideas have failed look at the past 8 years". Well in the past year you had partial Republican rule, but they were hardly government by conservative principles.
So conservativism didn't fail.. Republican Party politicians did.
There's more out there… Check out Neal Boortz. He's kind of like Rush, but a little more libertarian.
Congratulations on being the best educated in media. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate into common sense. Rush Limbaugh doesn't know anyone who makes less than $25,000 a year. Rush Limbaugh doesn't have to worry about paying $500 a month in case he has to see a doctor. When you spend your time listening to him you are unproductive. Multiply your unproductivity by all who listen. Sounds like a ton of educated lazy people looking for a reason to hate another person. Calling me a left wing troll is what educated people call an ad hominem attack. It occurs most often when the attacker has no reasoning skills.
I voted Republican all my life but the "trickle down" didn't and the America I knew as a kid lost all of its international equity and the press was owned (still is) by a monied agenda. You own the last 8 years my friend. We were crushed by the greatest ineptitude ever witnessed in this country. Your party still has no clue. When searching for a leader Rush stopped and said 'pssst, It's Sara Palin" So the most educated listeners in media are going to follow the leader and work to lift up one of the most uneducated politicians on the planet. The entire state of Alaska has a population of less than 700,000 people…similar to Charlotte NC. But she can see Russia from her porch. You set the division by saying I'm on a right wing site. So according to your indoctrination America is what she is and will be through "divided we stand"?
